Worst online teacher I've ever had. Probably a good classroom teacher.
The first weeks assignments were on things that we did not learn until chapter two and three. There are a lot of assignments that she does not explain.
I took chemistry in high school, and I feel like I know even less after taking her course.
Probably one of the worse teachers I haave ever come across. As an online class I expected it to be challenging but she takes it to a new level. She has no idea what she is talking about. Her tests do not match the homeworks so you are virtually unprepared and setting yourself up for failure. She does not deserve to teach and should be fired.
Chem is a hard class to take online! Ms Cheatham was so helpful in my understanding before tests! She went to the extreme to help me, even called me at home! However, her tests didn't match the material which made it much harder! But overall, she is a good teacher!
Her power points do not match the homework or tests half the time, so if you take her, be prepared for things to make no sense and to get tested on things she doesn't even teach. We do not even have a book for this class to refer to.
Not a good experience. The final exam was way above the level of the course, the online powerpoints were useless, the teacher slow to respond via email, and no textbook was assigned for the class, making learning almost impossible.
AWESOME Professor. Very understanding and extremely helpful with questions / explanations, etc. Very detailed layout of her class. Enjoyed the online Chemistry class.
I took her class online. She takes days to answer emails. Her study sources are all online and they do nothing to help you for the test. The tests are hard and not really covered. If you have no background in Chem then do not take her class
Horrible teacher- avoid her. Not at all friendly and quite hard to reach.Good luck if you get her.
Her tests/homework do NOT match the material in the book because the tests are much more advanced. I should be able to reference the text book, her notes, or something when doing the homework, but that was not the case. I though I was supposed to be learning about Chem, I didn't know I had to already be a Chemist to comprehend this class.
Test do not match any of the material covered. Her power points are taken from other universities classes, thus they do not match her quizzes. slow to respond to questions. Over half of her class will drop/withdraw. Terrible!
Terrible professor. General chemistry became a nightmare.
I took her online class. None of the things in the book that she "references" are on her tests or homework. This class is a pre-curriculum class and treats it like a sophomore college level class. If you ask her questions she just sends you back to the useless text.
most of the material is manageable. she could have been more helpful, but science classes online can be difficult in general.
Once you learned her style of teaching, it wasn't as bad as it looked
The class wasn't too bad, but some of the hw questions were hard to answer because there was not an example in the book. Most of the time I was able to find an example on google that helped me. Towards the end of the class, I emailed her a lot.She was really helpful in answering all of my questions. The tests weren't too bad just correct your hw
class was hard but if you kept up with the assignments, you can do OK. don't take it unless you can put a lot of time each week into it. be aware-textbook is online
I was scared to take a chemistry class online, but the teacher had it set up so it was easy to find everything. She was also very quick to return emails. you have to do the work, but it's pretty easy to get a good grade if you do
Hard class to take online but Ms cheatham would answer emails and send out videos to help. class was very organized. if you are good at online classes this one shouldn't be to hard
currently taking class. Teacher is super quick to answer email and very helpful with homework questions. hard class-great teacher.
a lot of work, but teacher answers emails and helps with homework questions. don't wait until the last minute to do the work.
If you like chemistry, you won't after you take this class. The class will overwhelm you with links that are useless. Submitted work disappears with no recourse, and you won't learn very much. Warning! Take this class only if you have money and time to burn. Wake Tech book store will rip you off as well.
great class, great teacher!
Got an A!!!
Just do the work!
One of the best online instructors I've ever had. Fast response to email, graded tests and homeworks fast. You can even call her and she will return your call. I've had other instructors that never contacted you or returned calls or email. The class is not that easy but it is doable. She's pretty strict with deadlines.
Science classes are not easy- but this one was as good as it gets.
Great.
responsive to email and questions. do what she says and you'll be fine.
Easy peasy
Great teacher, super easy.
just do it
Returns emails. But, is not clear, at all. Makes hella ton of mistakes on videos and other content and gives useless links without checking to see if they still work. Only take if you want to be more confused about chemistry and wondering why useless teachers still have jobs when you are done.
Ms. Cheatham is a hard teacher, but fair. I took this class online. I thought she gave alot of good examples for us to reference. It would have helped to have Homework due one day, and Labs due another. Keep up, is the best advice I can give future students. Also, the ILCHelp Center did not have after 5pm hours which is unexcusable.
I took it online and had to teach myself. There are a lot of extra videos and stuff to help, but you have to look. You can pass if you just do the homework and labs. She was GREAT about responding to email.
Chemistry doesn't have to be difficult and scary. I enjoyed her online class. But you must read the material. Great teacher!
You have one homework assignment a week which is like twenty five questions but each question has like ten parts on top of a quiz about the lab you did that week. The homework is the hardest part but attending class isn't too bad. She isn't big on attendance to her lectures as long as you're doing pretty good. She's funny.
great teacher.
took her class and it was easy.
Great class! Don't be afraid to ask questions if you are lost because she will definitely help.
Took this online because it fit my schedule. I loved the way the class was set-up, very easy to find information. It is not an easy class, but all the information is there. Be prepared to read. She was always fast responding to email.
Rocked!
I really wanted to like Mrs. Cheatham. I have taken online classes and know the drill. Her content was well laid out and easy to understand. HOWEVER, if you have a question, she is not easily accessible. I had 4 or 5 different times where I emailed her after going to tutoring and trying to figure out hw/lab questions. She just never responded.
Took this online because it fit my schedule. I loved the way the class was set-up, very easy to find information. It is not an easy class, but all the information is there. Be prepared to read. She was always fast responding to email.
Test questions do not match the assignments. Could be a good online class, except the links do not work half the time. The tests are timed much shorter than at other universities CHM151. Disgusting way to educate. You will loose your tuition before you know its to late to drop w/refund. If you care about your GPA, Run AWAY!!!!
I did not like how I had to read the textbook and take notes based off that as it was sometimes unclear about what we needed to know from each chapter. I did like how if I was unable to figure out how to do a problem that I could post my question to the discussion forum. However, if you email her you may not get a timely response.
Solid. Always answers email. Can text
Mrs. Cheatham is frankly horrible. She does not care about students and prefers to do both chemistry and math to her own rules and not to scientific standards. Do not take her class if you care at all about your GPA, she will ruin it. She makes an enjoyable subject extremely difficult and is rude both over email and in person.
Awesome, gave me an A with very little work
real gem
Great teacher, responds fast to questions. Everything is posted right at the beginning.
Professor Cheatham is the worst online chem teacher on earth! She teaches chemistry by not teaching it. She doesnt know the material well enough to teach it to students and her tests & WebAssigns are extremely difficult. Stay away if you don't wanna be confused or struggling to find resources every time you turn around. She gives no ..... BEWARE!
Professor Cheatham is the best online chem teacher on earth! She provided lots of additional resources, answered any questions I had, was VERY accessible and really knows her stuff. I wish she taught the next chemistry too.....
Professor Cheatham is the best online chem teacher on earth! She provided lots of additional resources, answered any questions I had, was VERY accessible and really knows her stuff. I wish she taught the second chemistry too
Mrs. Cheatham is great. She took over for another teacher and I thought it would be bad, but I think she is much better. Her lectures are really easy to follow and she gives plenty of practice during class. I think I am going to do better than I thought. I asked if she taught the next chemistry and she does but only online :/
THE BEST TEACHER FOR CHM. SHES SOO RELIABLE, GIVES YOU LOTS OF OPPORTUNITY BUNCH OF HOMEWORK FOR (EXTRA CREDIT) THE BEST THING WAS SHE ALLOW YOU TO HAVE NOTE CARD ON A TEST!!!!! THATS A BONUS, JUST SAYING. YOU WOULD NEVER FAIL THIS CLASS WITH HER, SHES THE BESTTTT!!!!!!! LOVE HER, SHES ALSO SUPER FUNNY<3
Mrs. Cheatham is a very good professor, She makes you do work after lectures which helps you learn a lot better and is always glad to answer any questions. She will let you make up quizzes and she makes the class fun. If you pay attention to the handouts she gives, the tests will be easy.
She's a really good professor. I took CHM090 as an introductory class before CHM151. I feel like I have a solid foundation to be successful in CHM 1. She is very friendly and easy to talk to. I didn't have to study for this class. Attend the lectures and do the practice study guides before each exam and you'll do well.
she was great fast email she was pretty funny in class before we had to go online and lectures made sense Take her
Good professor and easy class. Tests were very short and open note, which you may not even need.
helpful
If you ever get a chance to take this professor, DO IT! Your grades are based on a WebAssign homework and lab weekly, you have two tests and one midterm, which YOU'RE ALLOWED TO USE YOUR NOTES ON! She's sweet and answers emails fast, each lesson has its folder and she extends due dates up to a week without deduction, and easy to get extra credit.
This is the best chem teach at WTCC. The first 6 modules are great. Things sort of go off the rails near the end. The labs too difficult, you need to eyeball measurements but WebAssign only accepts specific answers, she measures from the top of the meniscus, wrong answers in the last 2 modules. Pluses: extra credit, good lecture, good grade anyway.
If you have a chance to take this class with her, DO IT! Everything was set up so easily and she always responded to emails fast. My tip to anyone is to READ THE TEXTBOOK because it contains valuable information. Lots of opportunities for extra credit and is there to answer any questions if you need it! Not an easy class but a great professor.
Shes a really good teacher and super simple and straightforward. He tests are easy and mostly open note. But for chemistry the key is to practice! Practice a little bit everyday and you will do great on the tests. She gives extra credit as well. Ps watch YouTube videos that is the key in understanding chemistry.
just doe the work! It's not hard, but there is a lot of it. Stay on top of the assignments.
If you are a person that is very smart with just understanding the book when reading it, then take her. Other than that, she ignores certain things you ask that might require her to fix. She's smart & nice, but not as caring as she should be. My recommendation, don't take her online, do it in person. Tests can have things you didn't read yet too.
answers email and text quick- understanding
She is the worst professor I've ever met. Her explanation is really obscure, and she seems to do nothing during the semester. Her final exam is super-difficult.
There is a lot of homework. Taking notes is a nightmare. But overall read the textbook, do a lot of practice problems, do your best, and you'll do fine.
lot of homework but they really help with the exams. great lecture!
By far the worst professor I've ever had. Rude, passive-aggressive, rarely active on the forum, and seems uninterested in teaching. Lectures and exams are filled with errors, and she won't catch them unless you point them out. Less than an hour of lecture videos per week, and exams are on textbook material that was never covered in class.
She doesnt really teach. pretty rude - youre on your own. find a better prof. if you take her & struggle, make it your GOAL to get high grades on labs (since there are many)- it'll balance out any mediocre test grades you get. read the textbook and find youtube videos - they've saved me this semester and its the only way i've learned the material!
so sweet- would def take her again. quick with email and text responses, even when most ofhter profs would be asleep. always ready to help. she met with my group several times even though it was a distcane class. i wnat her to teach the next one too!
With a solid understanding of HS chemistry, this class will be fairly easy. If you don't, you need to work to get an A. For her fully online class, you pretty much have to learn the material by yourself by reading the textbook, which is free. Tests aren't too hard. She answers emails very quickly, even on weekends and she explains well.
The class is not too hard but I had to teach myself almost everything. She gives small lectures but they can sometimes be confusing and always come short of teaching how to really complete all the webassign questions. Its mostly up to you.
The labs in this class are a waste of time and teach you nothing. There are a lot of mistakes on the webassigns and other homework. She gives small lectures. The class is not too hard but if you want to actually learn chemistry I would choose someone else.
She needs a career change & admin needs to sit in one of her class. Do NOT take her if you struggle with chemistry & need examples & step by step explanation. I had her for hybrid & she does little to NO teaching. If I asked her a question & did my best at attempting a problem, she would make me feel like I was at fault for not knowing a concept.
She gives very short lectures and my class spent most of our time in lab "figuring things out" on our own. At times, it seems like she does not care about her job at all and she can be sarcastic, rude, and even aggressive when replying to student's questions. I would not take her. Go to a different campus. Spend your tuition/ financial aid wisely.
Had her for a hybrid class and I always looked forward to lab. she was a little cold (distant) at the beginning of the semester, but by the end i was way more comfortable approaching her with questions. She was also very willing to help you with homework during the lab time.
do the homework, do the labs, ask questions (the ILC is great), you'll be fine
She is the best. The class isnt easy, so get ready to study. Go to the ILC and email her. She is extremely reachable. You will need WebAssign (Lab 25%, Assignments 25%, Tests 15% final, 15% midterm, 10% test 1, 10 % test 2) She does not give extra credit but you don't really need it. The book is free. She allows an index card for all tests -Grace L
Mrs. Cheatham is by far my favorite professor ever. I would advise you take her for Chem. 151 if you are required to take that course. She is very helpful, loves questions, emails back, etc. Labs are easy, the homework is very helpful for exams and you can use a note card for them as well. All in all the G.O.A.T!
Had her only for online lecture, not lab. This was the worst class for me, I'm already not good in chemistry but she did not have the patience to further explain anything. Makes sure you drown in homework and only gives you some youtube videos to understand stuff. There were 4 exams, in person, they were not hard because they were multiple choice.
Best online class i've taken. lots of resources in the course (youtube videos, short lectures, longer lectures, powerpoints, rubrics) and it is organized very well, it's easy to find materials. Lots of homework in webassign, but homework directly prepares you for the tests. very reachable outside of class. I recommend
Shared grades of 1 assignment with the entire class when she placed a Post-It Note on the projector and it showed all initials and grades on the back wall. My privacy as a student/for the class was not respected. This was a hybrid course and she only had 1 office hour until I spoke with her supervisor. 1 pop quiz on naming compounds.
I am an older returning student and took her for a hybrid class but was unable to finish the semester because ...life...... She let me withdraw with a passing grade so it didn't affect my GPA. I appreciate that she reached out when I quit coming to class. Hoping to take her again
every semester when i rate my other porfessors, I always make sure to include Professor Cheatham. She showed my grades on the wall (and everyone elses) only gave short lecture. I didn't finish the class, it was too hard.
Prof. Cheatham was great. You will have to study a lot if you are in her online class but her tests are multiple choice and very straight-forward. She has no intention of trying to trick you on her tests which are worth a majority of your grade.
I don't really have anything good or bad to say about this professor. She is very clear with what she wants, but I don't feel like I learned much from her. Most of the material comes straight from the book. The online videos posted mostly came from a different professor. The class itself isn't too difficult, just be sure to study and you'll do fine
Mrs. Cheatham is an awesome teacher. Had CHM151 hybrid - just 1 day a week for a lab. WebAssigns were a pain sometimes, but her lecture videos in Blackboard give you basically all you need. Extremely fast email response (within a few minutes on a Sunday evening). Prepares you very well for the 3 tests and 1 exam. Homework models test questions.
I loved this class a lot! I did terribly in my high school chemistry class, but this class was amazing. If you apply yourself to the class, you'll get a B at least. She was amazing to her students. The class was Hybrid for me. I recommend the videos she gives and Melissa Mirabel on Youtube; both were crucial for me getting an A.
Prof. Cheatham is very friendly and helpful. The labs are very enjoyable and she makes herself very approachable if anyone has any questions. The tests are quite easy as well. Subtracted one star only because most of the actual learning was done through the textbook.
Every new lesson includes helpful class videos, and she answers emails promptly. If you study, the big tests and exams are not tough. The labs were interesting! She is excellent; take her class!
What I liked about Prof. Cheatham was how organized she set up her chemistry course. There is an online discussion board where anyone can post questions they have at any time and they will get answers, and she also responds to emails quickly. HER REFERENCE PAPER FOR TESTS IS LEGENDARY + you can bring a 3'x5' note card too which is a bonus.
Professor Cheatham's CHM 151 course is difficult to do online but if you put in the time and effort, AND DO THE HOMEWORK, you will succeed. She has laid out a comprehensive and clear course with cut-and-dry grading criteria. Be sure to take advantage of her dedication as she is a very caring Professor who will make sure to make time for you.
If you put effort and time into understanding the material, you can succeed in this class. She always emails back quickly. The tests are very similar to the homework so studying is straightforward.
My best advice to anyone needing to take this class with this professor is to NOT take this as a summer online class. She is quick to respond to questions, however her answers rarely helped me. I highly recommend that if you have to take this class, don't take this teacher or get a tutor to do the teaching. It is a mostly a self taught class.
Her lectures do not correlate with the material on the tests and in her online classes she uses a different professors pre recorded videos. She is very rude over email and not at all understanding about small mistakes or oversights.
Tests and exams aren't too bad if you do the homework. She does give a reference sheet. Online class is easy to find things. responds to email fast
Professor Cheatham is available often online and can schedule a teams meeting with you to go over material. As for the quizzes and exams—honestly music appreciation had harder tests. But I'm good with math so it could just depend on the person. She lets you use a 3x5 notecard for exams which is a huge advantage.
Best online class I've taken at Wake. Prof is quick to repsond to email and class is very well organized. I don't like having to go to campus to take the tests- I wish it was fully online.
Professor Cheatham's CHM151 is challenging, but organized well. Attend class, do homework, and use resources like Unstuck study - it really helps. Tests are straightforward if you put in the work.
I'm only in week 3 but definitely frustrating. Her recorded lectures are her doing conversions and problems but never actually explaining anything. After every lecture, I find a YouTube video from the organic chemistry guy. I'd say give Teresa Lewis a try since all of the labs are completed by her. Taking Tracy asynchronous is a pain.
