This was a really basic class, but she makes it interesting. Only two tests for this class, just study your notes and you'll ace 'em.
great teacher...great class. very easy. it is almost impossible to fail this class unless you never go. tests are simple and straight forward. no homework is assigned.
one of the best teachers i've had. wonderful class, makes me want to change majors. learned a lot and she's sweet and funny. the only class i looked forward to this semester. consider taking her classes. =)
She is so sweet, very helpful and her class is very well structured.
all the positive comments so far describe her and her class. very intresting course. thought the book had some interesting concepts about society.
Easy, easy class. 3 hour class, and we always left 30 early. Do it you ****o!
Easy class, book is difficult to read so save some money and don't buy it since she'll just go over it in class. The tests are all based on her notes, so study the notes and you should be able to pass the class.
Worst teacher I've EVER had. We watched films almost every class. Teacher missed about 8 classes. Extremely irresponsible grading. Didn't grade her own papers, had her TA do it. TA unreliable too. WORST CLASS EVER. HATED IT.
Very nice teacher; not boring, tests are easy....do the extra credit and keep up with the reading and you will be fine.
Gardner is a great person. It's a very easy class to ace. Her lectures are interesting, and she applies all the concepts to real life. No homework, no papers.
FROM ANOTHER PERSPECTIVE...., I HAVE TO INCLUDE THAT DURING YOURE REVIEW OF THIS PROFESSOR MOST OF THE BAD STUFF IS TRUE. SHE SELDOM gives the class oppurtunity to grow, instead holds you back!!
she is a **** when it comes to grading papers half the class failed on her paper
I really like her. It's an easy class, the book is extrenely cheap and the tests are easy! She is also an excellent person.

SHe is very nice person and her class is very easy. Study all your notes ( definitions)I enjoyed her class.
This class is a breeze. There is three tests which all from your notes and very simple, and one paper that is 70% of your class grade. If you start your paper soon and have her look it over you should do great. Tracy is a cool teacher and very understanding.
this class is interesting when she talks about sociology yet half of the class she talks about her family. if u dont learn about the subject atleast you will learn about her life. it is easy all there is, are notes, movies and 3 e-z tests. no reviews and practically no credit. she is hard on xcredit
She is a very good teacher. Actually she is one of the best teachers at CSUN. She teaches the material clearly, and she teaches things you will always remember. take her class. Fun A.
She is a great teacher. There are only 2 tests and thats all your graded on but if u show up to class you'lll get an A. She explains really well. And has funny stories.
Great teacher. Extremely easy IF you take notes every class and study them for the test. Follow instructions very carefully for the paper and you will do fine. She only marks off for formatting and structure errors. Highly recommeded.
She doesn't wanna explain the material after the class and during office hours when I have questions. I think she does not like to teach. Though her tests are easy and based on the note, she is not kind. I don't learn from her.
She is a great professor. She makes sociology interesting. I fell in love with sociology because of her. The best study tip in her class is to make flash cards. Cheap book and very thin.
This class was pretty easy. She explains everything very clearly, and is pleased to answer questions. She offeres e.c too! midterm and final based directly on her lectures. . .take notes and make flash cards for tests and you're good! and the text was under $10
PAPER, PAPER, PAPER!!!! Her papers are the hardest thing you have to do in her class!! It is worth like 70% of your grade, but you do a good job and study for her tests you got it made!! I got an A and dont remember studing too much for tests and turned in a copy of my paper early and well its easy!
Class is all about taking notes. Not just what's on the board, but what she talks about, too. Keep an organized notebook with hilighted areas, come to class, and you'll be set. The extra credit's tough to get, but it can boost your grade. She has fun games sometimes, but it's up to you to show!

take exact notes and go to sessions when movies are being shown-- they will be on the midterm and final. use flash cards to study, make sure you go to the individual interview, and try to do some xtra credit and you'll ace the class. i got a B+ on the midterm, MISSED the interview, and cramed. got a B in class.
Great teacher, to the point and makes it entertaining.
Pretty easy class but she gives off a snotty 'tude
Test are exact to tha notes. she makes tha class entertainin at times but sometimes she makes you wanna go to sleep if you dont have that 'Seinfeld' Humor. anyway, Id recommend her to others
cheap text. she reads from it most of the time. found myself zoning out a lot. movies were generally boring. handed out a pointless survey asking how we felt about 9/11. pretty easy, just make sure you write down what she writes on the board.
awesome prof. almost made me switch my major the class was so awesome

This class is very standard college first year, huge lecture hall w/ the teacher standing behing the podium on a mic going through overhead notes. You'll need the notes from class for your test. The book is small and cheap but not an easy read.
This professor s...ks!!! grading on papers is out of wack not willing to help you class was cancelled on too many occasions. DO NOT TAKE HER unless you want to FAIL!!!!
This professor should not teach. Does not care about her students, cancells a lot of classes, NO SECOND opportunities for improving grade. STUCK ON HER ON RESEARCH. has students teach her class, just horrible!!
Her lectures are awsome. only two tests midterm and final. both easy. no assignment. just go to class and take notes. book is difficult to read but she reads it outloud in class and explains it for you. definetly recommended!!!
Honestly, this class is NOT that difficult. Simply show up for the lecutures (which 90% of the exams are based on) and CAREFULLY follow the instructions for the Paper, Close to 1/2 our class failed the paper due to spelling/grammer mistakes or not following the guidelines. She's serious about deducting points for that, so pay attention.
She is a wonderful professor, very helpful and understanding. As long as you keep in touch and update her on what's going on in your life she will work with you. There are only 2 tests so that makes things easier. There is one term paper, but it's fun and the presentations are interesting. I recommend her for all your sociology classes!
SHE IS NOT A PROFESSOR!!! SHE HAS OTHER STUDENTS GUIDE THE CLASS WITH DUMB PRESENTATIONS A COMLETE WASTE OF TIME... SHE SHOULD NOT BE TEACHING..TAKE HER IF YOU WANT TO FAIL!!!!!
Teacher is great. Only a midterm and final. Sounds difficult but her test are easy and straight forward from her notes. Reading is the only homework which you dont have to read she tells you the important parts in class. Class was canceled a lot. There are extra credit, but I wouldnt do it because one mistake (gramatical/sp and you earn no credit.
Easy and interesting class. She's doesn't BS. If you answer the study guide questions, take all notes, and simply show up to class, you'll get an A. Do the extra credit. Fun.
i liked the class for it is easy. but what made me dislike it to the fullest was that i got ill, sent to the emergency room, i got her a doctors note, and she did not care though she said she would accept the doctors note in the syllubus and gave me a D in the class. ****
She is not that great. She had no idea of what she was talking about and had to have her TA bail her out...it was sad. Would never take her again, a waste of time! Her and her assistant seem too full of themselves.
She is a good teacher, though you do have to take notes. Some get caught off guard at test time and become bitter. Just take notes, listen and you will be fine; she is VERY clear about what she expects.
Stay away from this teacher. She does not give the class the opportunity to grow and learn. She does nothing to help you outside of class and your entire grade in the end is based off one paper. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT GET THIS PROFESSOR.
if you want to fail take this teacher
This teacher is a joke. I had her last semester to and what I get out of this is she is very lazy. You can be doing really well then your grade can go down the hole because of one paper. She always misses class and comes up with a rediculious excuse like my husband is sick and she holds u accountable for the work.If your smart you wouldnt take her.
im a soc major and after her class it made me love the major. shes good at teaching, and her tests are from the notes and lectures, dnt miss them! shes a very fair person/ teacher, and shes pretty funny
She's so awesome!! i loved her. she's so easy all there is 3 tests and they are easy easy! she is one of the most interesting professors i have had...take her shes really good!!
verry good teacher. i took a tues/thurs. morning class. the class was huge so she never took role. but the midterm and final[which are the only tests] come from the notes you take from lecture. she also gives 5 extra credit chances which is awesome. she missed 3 classes in a row. she lives far from csun so rainy days...count her out =)
professor missed a lot of days, tests were very easy and overall the class was a breeze.

i love taking her classes. this is my second time taking her class. yeah she misses alot but who cares. she is helpful when she is in class. and her husband is cute
i loved this teacher, shes cute and has a sense of humor, she makes lectures interesting. i absolutely loved her because she is clear and dosent trick you! youll love her
she was absent a lot but when she came back she gave us a lot of slack. the entire purpose of the class was to write a research proposal. just get that paper written and have her proofread it for you and you've got yourself a good grade.the lectures were also interesting and she kept me awake. and her mid terms are VERY easy.just focus on the paper
She missed class.... a LOT! I took her for soc 150 previously and she missed class couple of times then too, but this semester was OVER THE TOP! she was absent more than we had class, but in the end, she gave us a lot of slack for missing so much. overall, her class is easy. her tests consists mostly of her notes and some from the book.
She missed class for half of the semester....seriously. Her tests were easy but if you're the type of person who needs someone to lecture at you in order to retain information, then this is probably not the professor for you -- you definitely have to be a book learner if you want to remember information and do well on the midterm, etc.
Very cool teacher! Her lectures are very to the point and very clear! Her tests are pretty easy. She missed A LOT of class this semester...like a whole month... so that was chill...overall a good teacher and grades fair.
way chill!!! misses alot of class but lectures are straight up... tests are pretty easy if you study the notes she gives and read the material out of the book... i totally reccomend her!!
no brainer, just come to class and listen.
Incredibly easy, such a no brainer. Misses a lot. Relies on movies and powerpoint lectures a lot. Very nice mannered and sweet teacher , but not much of a challenge
This teacher is very interesting and she always has great stories to tell sometimes relating to the subject, and sometimes not. She missed about half the semester and she would still show movies in class. She's very fun and the tests are easy enough, as long as you use the study guide provided you will get an A.
Super easy class. although, BEWARE: DO NOT BE LATE ON TEST DAYS. I was fifteen minutes late and she gave me a zero. Contacted the dean's office and similar situations have happened before with other students. I ended up with a C instead of an A because of a situation I couldn't control on the morning of a test. I'd love to key her car.
Her class was awesome. She is a chill teacher. I dont know how anyone failed her class. Show up and listen and you will be fine. DO NOT MISS DAYS WHERE SHE GOES OVER THE TEXT AND REVIEWS FOR THE TEST!!!Everything you need to know to pass her class are on those days. She is very nice and funny. Great stories!!
Gardner's class was awesome. We only had 2 exams, an oral presentation, and 6 written assignments. All I can say it's an easy class, and really enlightens you!
She is a cool professor. The class is not hard and she tries to keep the class interesting and entertaining.
She's nice and kind. She is very laid back, sometimes care less in other aspects. Do buy the book, even though you will hardly use it. The main part should be taking notes and group projects, not reading the book. Awesome teacher, very open minded and liberating.
4 tests and one group paper (with a presentation). Tests were very easy, and paper was pretty okay, only if you had good teammates. this is the second time i have taken this professor, and shes awesome. Shes absent every so often, so check your email constantly. Overall, pretty good.
Eh, Professor Gardner was alright. We had 3 tests; with the last one being optional to take. She just wouldn't tell you your grade on Test 2 before Test 3. The Berger book is a bore, she'll go over the stuff you need to know. I got a C in her class, but she only told us one test grade, so who knows.
She never really comes to class. She mostly talks about her family and her funny stories. She chose this book for us to read throughout the class, it was so hard to understand that she herself couldnt explain it well, i worked hard studying and got a "C." Shes more interested in her trips that she does and her silly stories that learning!
Take her! she is funny and never really comes to class.
I really liked the fact that she uses powerpoint and has clear lecture notes. If you study the lectures, you will get an A on all her tests. She isn't hard and is always helpful. She doesn't have any assignments, and 1 group project. I wish she taught more classes. CSUN needs more professors like her!!
I can't even put into words how much I loathe this woman. She barely ever showed up for class. I attended every class session, then (my luck) I was 15 minutes late for the final and she wouldn't let me take it because ONE PERSON had left already. one person. (rest of the story above)
So, after I had taken it up with the Sociology Chair, Gardner then decides to give me half of the score of a previous test taken as my score for the final. She's basically giving me a score for the final without me ever taking the final. To this day I don't understand the logic in that. Sure, I ended up passing. But I still would like to key her car
Wow! She's such a great teacher! I didn't think lectures were boring at all! She's such a nice, kind-hearted individual! Easy class! Just a few exams, 6 really short written assignments you turn in at the end of the semester, and group presentation which is a breeze. I highly recommend taking her!
shes a witch!!!doesn't show up to class at all!!!i showed up to class everyday, took notes, took my test, got a c on the midterm, didnt do too well on the book tests, but managed, ended up passing class with a F!!!has a horrible ta who cant teach...i guess you just have to kiss her but in order to pass...
She barely shows up for class! I barely went to class and got an A in that class. One of the most useless class ever!! All her tests were open book and she gave us ppt slides to study for and there is also a group project which is easy. I wouldnt recommend her if you want to learn something but if you want an easy "A" then take her.
She is a nice teacher but she cancels class alot. The class is a hard subject. The book is hard and confusing to read. No homework and you only take 1 midterm and 1 final. READ THE BOOKS WELL or else you won't pass the tests. She does not take attendance but you should go to class anyways. I got lucky I passed with a good grade but I studied hard.
She is great teacher who make the class exciting and enjoyable. She is very clear about what she expects and is very approachable. Though it is a challenging class, because your grade in the class is based on the midterm and final it is worth taking.
AWESOME PROF! Very nice, and helpful, she gives learning objectives qq for textbooks, (two of them) to help prepare for tests, one midterm and one final, attend class because its FUN, i love her lectures, she has great sense of humor, gives extra credits, make sure to read books on time, that improve understanding concepts for tests A+++
I've taken soooo many classes at csun, and this is the 1st class i have failed!!!she has favorites!!i would try avoiding this class!!!i got a D- in this class even though i showed up everyday and worked my butt off!!all she does is blab about her daughter!!i took the same class with angel constable and passed with a B!!amazing teacher/class
DO NOT TAKE!!AVOID IF POSSIBLE!!
Readings were outdated. Couldn't keep her trap shut on her views on abortion (even though professors are suppose to give you nuetral information and let you make your own judgements) and her comments strongly hinted towards being anti-christian. Worked hard and got a C. Avoid if possible but during these economic times, beggers cant be choosers =/
Horrible and selfish!!!avoid taking ull work ur buns off and still not pass!!
I think the people on here who are complaining and saying she is a bad professor are wrong. If you just actually read the books assigned, attend class regularly, and take notes you can pass the class. I have no complaints whatsoever she gave great lectures that kept me engaged in the class and were very interesting to hear. I LOVED her class :)
I had her for sociological anaylsis. easy professor. Very clear with her expectations. If you piss her off, like any professor, forget it!.Those crying wienies who failed her class, Im sorry, are just not college material..if you cant pass her class just pack it in.
Prof. gardner is a great teacher. i took her for soc.150 and she made the classs so easy .. if you read the book every thing is cool .. took only 2 test . and both online so if you take it with a friend then you should get a B or A in the class,, Easy Fun Clas
class was fun! make sure 2 copy info 4rm her powerpoints, its helpful! readin the txtbook is CRUCIAL! ur grade depends on 2 tests: mid-term n final,(both online), she gives study guides which r helpful, study ur notes & do the readings, test time is limited, so make sure u atleast knw some of the concepts. HIGHLY RECOMMEND HER, SHE'S A GREAT PROF!
such a caring professor. no text book required. her tests are easy if you take good notes.
Very caring professor. No textbook required. Relates to students. Tests are based off what she discusses in class, as well as certain speakers that may come in and videos. Take good notes! It matters. Also, participate a bit so she learns your name at least. May make a difference. But easy class overall!
Had her for Soc 150HON. Nice lady but she is not very helpful. Just read the books and you will be fine. Almost no need to show up for class.
Was unfair, you work in groups and allows students remove students from a group without hearing all sides. Did 2 months worth of work with a group only to be cheated out of my grade, she cut 50% my grade and refuse to discuss it. Unfair. She was nice at first and I always went to office hours.
This class was super easy.
This class was a lot of fun and really interesting in no small part due to Prof. Gardner. She will give you examples that make really get the concepts through to her students. Her class does require some reading in my case 3 books 1 text 1 novel and Invitation to Sociology...not quite sure what to say about that book tough but interesting.
She has a dumb Grading rubric there are only 4 tests. I got a 102% on one and 91% on the other. I got a 78% on the last test(even though i only got 4 wrong) and I had a 69% in the class. She starts off as a nice teacher but quickly changes. She also allowed a group of students to call the African American students in the class genetic mutations!
DO NOT TAKE!! You have been warned. Why? Because she doesn't teach anything but talks about her personal life and****guy students. Gross. You will see why if you take her!
She was a really great professor. I really enjoyed her class. She was really helpful and always open to any questions that the students had. Although there were some disagreements in our class dealing with a research presentation a group did that was rather disturbing. Hopefully that will be the last time that happens. Other than that awesome class
I only went to class twice the whole semester and still passed. There's only 3 tests, two based on the textbook and one on a novel. All three are online. It was a big class so attendance was not taken. She's also very chill. She tells you stories of her own life relating to Sociology. Overall, I suggest taking her.
I've taken two courses with her, and let me tell you she is consistently absent! The first course i took with her, we had maybe only 5 class lectures out of the whole semester The next time i took her was for another sociology course, in which the same thing happened, as a result i did not learn SQUAT! A waste of my time and money.
I was so thankful to take this course with her, especially for online. I did not study much for final exam. All I did was reading and getting the concept of sociological approaches, which was mostly on final exam. The result of grade was good.
