Tracy Heinlein is the worst teacher I have ever had. Her class was pointless and full of middle school level busy work. She didn't even show up to at least 3 class meetings, leaving her teacher's pet posted outside the door to tell everyone the class had been canceled at the last minute! Her grading is also unfair. What a jerk.
I certainly recommend you avoid Tracy Heinlein if at all possible. She conducts herself in a very unprofessional manor and is not clear at all in what she expects from your writing.
Mrs. Heinlein's a pretty good teacher. She was always pretty nice and understanding. The only real problem I had with her was that sometimes she wasn't clear about assignments. That and she was late everyday. But still, I recommend taking her.
She's a Goddess in Progress...she help me with my English real good. Alos with my spilling & peach patology. see 'yall in the funny books!
She is my mini-goddess. Her textbooks are dynamic. She grades like a demon from hell and your papers will be melded into works of art by her tasteful critiques. Her assignments always exercise the point, illustrate the principle, and utilize the basics. She is willing to invest in students who invest in the class. An A+ Teacher IMHO.
The comments being unclear are somewhat true; it has nothing to do with being unskilled as a reader or writer. Tracy expects students to do well w/ little direction, & she does seem to play favorites. She can be slow to respond to questions. It is hard to judge how you are doing in her on-line classes because she doesn't post grades.
Terrible class. Mrs Heinlein is really slow to grade papers or respond to messages. You don't know what you are doing, but by the time she gets back to you the papers due. Msgs come close to being rude. Many people dropped the class.
Distance Creative Writing. While I felt that we didnt do enough writing the class itself was easy to follow, with good communication from the professor.
Good class. Lots of writing. If you take a course from Heinlein be prepared to challenge yourself as a writer. The class is not easy, but the instruction is well balanced.
Online class. Like others have said, very little communication from the prof which made it hard to know how I was doing. Would have serious hesitation recommending this prof to another student.
Tracy is a good interesting teacher. If you come to class and do all of the work you will get an A. She can be a little flaky at times but is overall a very good teacher. You will learn a lot about writing essays in this class.
good teacher for an english class. easy going and nice person. a little slow on grading papers, but not a big deal. take a class from her if you get a chance.
Tracy Heinlein is a dim witted teacher, she goes on power trips and has no sympathy for her students. She does not know the material she is working with and needs to learn how to teach.
She is not the sharpest tool in the shed. She never really teaches the class, she lets the students tell her what to teach and that can take awhile. She needs to learn how to teach HER class.
Her critiques on my and other student's writing was right on - if anything too kind. She encouraged the newer students and gave advice that was very detailed. My writing has improved greatly due to assignments and her suggestions.
I took an online course from her and was extremely disappointed with the entire process. Her instructions were unclear and her feedback to the work submitted was insulting. When asked for assistance on an issue, Tracy did not provide the help, saying it was unfair to the other students.
She was very organized, willing to help and IM whenever I asked.
Took her online class and she was awesome. Make sure you have the most recent books, otherwise you won't be able to do any of the reading assignments or writing prompts (which sucks, btw, they definitely help your grade). Very quick to respond to emails, and very willing to help. Great format for an online class!
She doesnt give good grades even though u do well. She just roughly read yr works.
Tracy was not a good teacher. Afterall, it was creative writing; it is all up to the writer. With barely any grammer mistakes, she still marked up all my papers. I do not think she actually like fiction, yet teaches it. She grades really hard and unfairly on fictional writings.
She is my mini-goddess. Her textbooks are dynamic. She grades like a demon from hell and your papers will be melded into works of art by her tasteful critiques. Her assignments always exercise the point, illustrate the principle, and utilize the basics. She is willing to invest in students who invest in the class.
She doesn't teach. Sure, it's an online class, but all she does is assign reading and has us answer questions from the book with maybe some short essay assignments. I might as well just read the book. She is often not around, takes days to respond to questions and seems disinclined to work with students.
Loved this class. It's online so I had to be very disciplined but this is my favorite subject so I had no trouble. Weekly syllabus was easy to follow. She def helps those who ask.
She seems okay with just getting by. Ill prepared most of the time then tries to compensate with busy work that doesn't apply to the lesson. Too little too late. Didn't get much out of the class over all.
I have got to say, her class was quite the, um, experience. Her class is very easy, and I'm saying this to people who dont slack off and turn in their work on time. Her clarity is wavering. If you talk to her after class but your foot down on straying off subject. Otherwise you'll be there forever. When you get through to her, shes an amazing help.
I have her Eng 101 and I LOVE it! She helps me when I am lost and doesn't let me get off track!
she is the greatest professor I've ever got. Although her class is loaded with tons of assignment, that's okay! she's very helpful!
very fun and kind teacher!!!! would highly recommend taking this class... THE BEST TEACHER
great teacher, fair grader, animated lecturer, high workload
Frustrating at times.
Are you kidding me? She is a sweet heart. I mean she is funny as the same time as well. I adore her so much. I got her last winter quarter. I have tried my best to earn my 4.0. Yes, I deserve it. Do your best and show her how much hard-working you are. Then look at the grade book at the end of quarter :) good luck
I will agree with the other people who said she isn't a very good teacher. Unprofessional and, as another poster said, seems happy just to coast by. I was disappointed in this class, as I've had many great teachers at North. She is mediocre at best.
She is okay but just not really professional and can be forgetful sometimes.
4 words : hot , sexy , and hard !
One of the worst teachers I had a North. As others have said, she is unprofessional, flaky, forgetful, and simply coasting by. She's a space cadet, and not in an endearing way. I received a good grade in her class, but I didn't feel like I learned anything and her teaching was a joke.
I took her class on summer and I didn't get anything. That was the worst class i have ever taken! Take with her and prove yourself. She is bad in grading. Homework is "seems like" not that important, It is like 100% of your grade depends on your essay. Just that! I dare you to take her class!
Tracy is very professional. She really knows what she is doing.I already have a degree so I know what a good teacher is. She is great. She has made me a more confident writer and she is very supportive. This class is not easy. You have to work but it is worth it.
She's unprofessional and not at all understanding. I feel that a teacher at a community college should be more flexible, given that most of their students work at least a part time job and may not be able to devote ALL of their time to studying and homework.
I'm not sure what people are whining about. Sure, sometimes she's a bit forgetful, but she takes an interest in her students and doesn't just ignore them. And she knows what she's doing.
Tracy is very helpful and understanding. I took English 101 and 102 with Tracy and I had great time. She helps a student to understand the core of essay writing in a very simple and easy way. She makes the class fun and enjoyable!
When I asked her questions she told me to google the answers. She is a passive-agressive in her explanations. In one essay she asked me to simplify the content (too philosophical for her maybe) and would not understand most of my metaphors and analogies.
Really enjoyed her class. She was funny but serious about teaching writing. Very willing to help me whenever I asked, even helped me get an essay published. I recommend her if you are a serious student!!!
Her class is fairly easy and her way of teaching was really easy to adapt to. She makes class funny and i always look froward to going to her class. BUT I CANNOT STAND HER PENMANSHIP.It is not legible one bit. She wrote corrections on my essay and i cannot read any of it.
Tracy is a very nice person, but I felt like I was still in high school because of some of the requirements. Most of what she teaches is helpful, but I felt that the class moved very slow. She was not very clear about some of the things she was teaching, and a few times had struggles getting through to students. She is an alright teacher.
I loved this class! She is very helpful and can teach the material very well. Definitely recommend this class!
Tracy is an enthusiastic teacher, and a great asset for any aspiring writers. She has a keen eye for taking apart fiction, and assigns interesting exercises to develop skills.
Tracy is very blunt and has a style of teaching that is not for everyone. She can be harsh at times, but that does not discredit her teaching ability. I recommend Engl 152 and 111 to anyone who wants brutally honest feedback on their work. Her harsh critiques helped improve my writing. If you listen to her feedback and work with her you'll do well
The worst instructor I have had at NSCC. My last class for my AB degree. There was little to no feedback along the way, you couldn't get an idea of what grade your grade was and she seemed to lack any interest. Icing on the cake, she gave me a zero on a paper because of weird formatting. I pushed back and got a C but it was frustrating. Avoid.
Tracy is an AWESOME teacher! If you don't understand something she will take time with you before, after even during class to help you get it! She was literally the BEST and most fair teacher I've had in a LONG time! I was excited to come to her class and don't understand why ANYONE would hate on her teachings unless they simply did not TRY!
Tracy Heinlein is an excellent teacher. Her methods are different but very effective. The class mood is light and you are able to relax which helps in concentrating on work.
She is awful! She is very opinionated and has to have everything her way or its no way especially with essays. A lot of people in my class agreed she'd be better as a high school teacher. If possible, AVOID her class.
Avoid her. She is unclear in her expectations, even when you ask for clarification. Lectures are often irrelevant to subject at hand. For example, in an English comp class I expect to be taught grammar, structure, ect. I don't care about tigers or random social issues. Haven't learned anything worth while in this class.
Even though I had to withdrawl, very helpful.
One of the worst professors I have ever had. I did very well in the class but she is extremely flaky, does not even post the weekly assignments on time and extremely unhelpful. Very obvious she does not care. Avoid her!
AWESOME TEACHER! I thought ENG101 is hard, but apparently it's not. She makes everything enjoyable and interesting. Her class is light making it very easy to understand. She loves students who participate a lot. Although she gives a lot of writings, her grades are awesome! BUT! She is so slow in reading. It can make you sleep!
Tracy is not that bad. She's not some incredible, inspiring teacher but shes not terrible. Her in class reading will bore you to tears and her syllabus is sometimes confusing. I still learned a bit and was entertained in class at times. Some of the other reviews are a little dramatic, its not horrible. Its community college English class.
BEST TEACHER! I thought it's hard to get good score in English but it's not. Her assignments are not so many. She's not a bad grader and if you don't understand something, ask her and she will glad to help. Not lots of reading, 1 reading every week in average. BUT! When she reads the reading, it's so slow, that can make you fall asleep.
Kind and helpful, don't take out phone or eat in her class.
If you do the assignments, and follow the details, you'll do well. She encourages getting help if you're struggling. The writing assignments are just the right length to be a challenge, but not impossible. There's lots of peer editing and group work, making the class more social than others. I'm looking forward to taking her next class.
Tracy's teaching style is not for everyone; if you're somebody who needs a lot of structure in their coursework, you may want to explore other options. I personally had a very enjoyable experience in this class! Be prepared to write a lot of essays.
Not very organized. However, she heads the English tutoring department, a fantastic resource which is always open and provides great feedback for improving your essays for her class.
I really liked how she gave a weekly syllabus. It helped me stay focus and plan my week. I knew coming into class what we were doing that day. Yes, she reads material slowly but I think it's to help students understand the material. I would reccomend this class.
would recommend
Tracy never responds to messages (a big problem when you're taking an online class), and doesn't grade anything until you've had to submit multiple other assignments, leaving you with no feedback to improve upon. Her posts and messages were full of typos. I did well in this class, but I didn't learn anything.
Dear Tracy Heinlein, This quarter has come to an end, but every end is a new beginning. What a wonderful experience it is to study English 102 under you. You have taught and I am positive that I have learned. You remain one of the most caring and thoughtful professors/instructors I have come across at North Seattle College. You rock! Thank you!
At the end of the quarter, almost half of assignments were still ungraded. Received very little feedback throughout the course. Assignments were often unclear in scope, and the lack of feedback made the grading metrics unclear. I learned very little from this class.
I mean, she can be nice but is more often rude. VERY old fashioned, don't expect much to be done on canvas, be sure to have hard copies of everything. Do you use a computer to type? Not in this class!
Show up. Turn in your work on time. Contribute minimally to class discussions. You'll receive a good grade, but Tracy is rude, unreliable, confusing and annoying to follow in person, and unclear on her due dates. She is unreachable with the info she gives out. No computers in class. Bring hard copies of work. Confusing mix of canvas and hard copies
She was very rude and disrespectful to students. She would ignore my hand when raised and whenever I asked questions she would push her hand towards me as to tell me to stop. The class was very slow!! We were required to purchase 3 very expensive textbooks, totaling nearly $200, and we didn't use any of them more than 4 times through entire Q.
Tracy was one of my favorite professors. Yes, she is old fashioned and is a little all over the place but really takes time to explain each assignment until we understand. She is so kind and helpful. She was available out of class for extra help and answered all my emails within a day. I highly recommend her.
DON'T TAKE A CLASS WITH THIS PROFESSOR. I don't want to give so many details that she is able to tell who's writing this, because today was my last day of her class, and I'm afraid of her retaliating. But I will say- she's inconsistent, rude, interrupts students in class, doesn't have clear grading requirements, and doesn't know what she's doing.
Textbook definition of a boomer who thinks theyre better than their students. She was blatantly rude, cutting of students speaking, rigid and not helpful when students didnt understand and even told a student who couldnt turn on his camera due to his housing situation that he needs to not be at that house for her class. Unbelievably rude.
Every week you'd have a reading, a journal assignment, a discussion assignment, and one writing assignment, all of which were fairly easy. On some assignments she left good feedback but others she would just say nice work but still dock 5 points. I enjoyed the coursework and felt like Tracy listened to student feedback. Class was asynchronous.
Ms. Heinlein was laid back and I liked her but sometimes she made it a bit hard for us. There were some technical difficulties with uploading things to canvas for her so I won't blame her too much but then sometimes we would loose points when the problem was majorally her or Canvas's fault. Slightly irritating but somewhat understandable.
Professor Heinlein really cares about the subject, and about her students. She is not very savvy with Canvas. Lack of structure and planning ahead made for a frustrating experience. Would not take another class from her; would go to a workshop though, since she knows her stuff.
No hard writing works but there are a lot of them. So behind in grading so you can't do anything to fix your grade. Doesn't really teach anything, just gives out assignments then makes us go to the tutoring center.
An essay every week, and has extra credit but when you submit it she doesn't even give you the grade. Spent almost 20 hours on extra credit but it was all for nothing
Miss Tracy is one of the most passionate professors I've had. She truly cares about her students. Every tutor respects her, and for good reason—she's excellent at what she does. She'll push you, but thanks to her, my writing has improved a lot. I'd love to take ENG 102 with her.
She's a good one
The class wasn't necessarily difficult but the professor got into unnecessary arguments with the tridents and made the learning environment consistently uncomfortable. she didn't really seem to care about the students.
She didn't give feedback on essays until the final draft, so the only usable feedback for revisions was on rough drafts through tutors and peer review. She also took forever to grade things and if you miss a class you'll most likely get marked down, doesn't matter if you have an excused absence.
Such a frustrating teacher to work with. Very unclear grading criteria and didn't score the majority of my work until the end of the quarter, so I was constantly stressing over my grade. Gave me an 0 on an essay because of one minor formatting issue and I had to fight hard to bring it up past a 50%. Also loves to argue with students.
