Somewhat easy statistics class. She teaches well but the tests can be rather hard. I would take this class from her again.
She gives trick questions and if it looks like there are a large number of kids out she will give a pop quiz.
Great teacher. She explains the material very clearly. She is approachable and not uptight at all. I definately recommend her.
Great teacher! Explains the material as clear as it can get. I would definitely recommend taking tracy. And she also has a good sense of humor.
she cool and easy..i recommend ppl to take her. she explains easy and grades fairly easy..o yea this year the study guide for the final was the final..and the final is optional. she tells jokes and give random attendance quizes so go to class
Amazingly helpful if you go and talk to her, since of humor is different. but shes fair amongst all students
awesome teacher she explains well and goes thru any example you might see in homework and sample exams are extremely helpful. do the homework it makes the class easy and attendance is necessary
Great teacher. Attendance is not mandatory but if you don't go you wont understand and her bonus questions on tests are usually from jokes she tells in class. I would DEF take her class.
She is a great teacher i recomend everyone to take her. She makes math so easy
She is a great teacher i recomend everyone to take her. She makes math so easy. And she is very pretty.
She is a great teacher and really knows what she is doing, she will interact with every student and her tests are easy to pass if you do the work i would recommend her for anyone that needs help in math or is interested in math
She explains everything step by step and make math EASY! Before every exam she posts an sample exam. The questions are the same, just the numbers change! Go to the clases because the bonus question on the exam is usually a joke she tells in class. She also gives 5 points on the exam for writin your name on the back of the exam! She's the BEST!
Awesome, clear, easy to understand--she is the *BEST* math teacher I have had since grade school! I would get in her class again in a heartbeat! She's pretty hilarious too, which breaks up the monotony of number-juggling.
The reviews weren't very helpful. I was sort of scared to ask questions in class bc she seemed to be pretty rude to ppl who did ask questions. Maybe this was just a bad experience but I wouldn't take Tracy again. She was very clear in her teaching, but the exams were very hard. The SI teacher was amazingly helpful!
Very Helpful
Great at explaining. But DO NOT ASK QUESTIONS! SHE WILL RIP YOUR HEAD OFF. Do not recommend but she does explain things well.
She is an excellent prof. who explains things really well, gives bonus points which really helps out... She will answer any question.. She is hilarious... I highly recommend her as a math teacher especially if you are not so great at math..
She is the best math teacher i have had in college yet. She explains things well and goes at a steady pace. She has a good sense of humor but is a "smart alec". She also gives points on exams and quizzes just for writing your name on it. I would definitely recommend.
good teacher she was pregnant when i was in her class she was funny and explained thes stuff in good detail. Tests are hard but do the work and u will pass
LOVED HER! She was great, but you do NOT need to waste money on the book. You only need to buy the Coursecompass math lab code. I didn't open my book once! Homework is done online, and any help you would get out of the book can be found on coursecompass as well. She is hilarious. I wish she taught Stats! I would definitely take her again!
Tracy Hughes is the best math teacher I've ever had. She explains things VERY clearly, does not assign mandatory homework, and makes the class really easy. I would especially recommend her if you have trouble with math!
It might not seem like she's the great teacher that everybody puts her out to be at first but she is. She gives extra credit for writing down your name in the right place on test, and she gives alot of extra points just for showing up to class, and she explains the material pretty well. TAKE HER and she drops lowest quiz and test grades
she is probably the best math teacher i've ever had. she does an incredible job of making things clear. as long as you pay attention, do the homework and show up to class then you will get either an A or B.
Best math teacher I've ever had. She'll work out problems over and over until people get them. Her tests are difficult but she drops the lowest one and give extra points if you follow all the directions. Also, she has a great sense of humor which makes the class more enjoyable.
Great Teacher! Take her for 131! She is funny, cuts up in class, makes the class fun for everyone. She is very helpful and works out as many problems as you need. Her tests are easy if your in class, do the homework, and study over the notes. There is no reason not to pass this class if Tracy is your teacher. TAKE HER!
LOVE her!! She is funny and gives lots of extra credit. you must come to class because she has pop quizzes but she drops the lowest and almost half the points are for attendance. Test aren't bad if you do your study guide and ask her questions the day before your test. best math teacher I know!
I loved goin to class at 8 in the morning because of her. for the first two weeks of class we didnt have to go. Teaching skills are excellent i would take her again.
GREAT TEACHER! explains everything very well! humorous too!
She's a great teacher & very funny too! Go to every class, take good notes & study! Tests can be hard & she can go a little fast while explaining board problems but if you speak up she will clarify it for you. She'll help you out one on one if you really need it! Watch your cell phone too, she's spring a pop quiz if she even thinks she hears one!
SHE IS AWESOME!!! TAKE HER IF POSSIBLE!! She is funny and a great teacher! Just do the homework and study for the test and you will get an A!! I loved her class!! I would take her again!!
She's really funny and teachers a whole lot better than most of the teachers. Just do the home work and practice test and ask questions if you have them!
Mrs. Hughes was awesome! She drops a test, two quizzes, and three homeworks. Takes attendance, but isn't required. But two quizzes were attendance so you might want to make sure you go. Highly recommend taking this class. She is very helpful, and its pretty easy. Also an auditorium sized class.
Do not take from her. She is demeaning and unhelpful. If you ask a question, she will be sarcastic in her answer and make you feel stupid. She hates her job and counts down the days til she gets out of UTC. Gives bogus quizzes too.
You don't need to go out and but the book. Just get it through coursecompass, b/c it's never used besides her, and she tells her the prob # and pg # in the book so u can look it up online. taker her.
Mrs. Hughes is an O.K. teacher to me. The only 2 things I really disliked about this class was that when she worked out problems she would skip steps in between & say you should already know this & also some of her test had things on it that were not always like the homework. But overall I still made an A in her class but it took some hard work.
I can't stand Hughes. She thought she was really funny but she was just stupid. She makes you feel dumb whenever you ask any question. She is unclear and vague. If you can take anyone but her, i would.
I loved this class! She is super easy and tells lot's of korny jokes! She knows what she's talking about and she always explains how to do something in the best way possible. Her tests are super easy and basically just like the book problems. She uses the book alot. Homework is all online. It was an easy class!
Take her! She is the best math teacher. You do have to work but with coursecompass it is easy to make good grades. Plus she drops alot of your bad grades. I failed the first 2 tests and ended up with a b in the class.
She is great! Explains things well. She missed class a bit this semester. Her notes are great! The computer system helped me study for the tests! I recommend her for math over all the professors.
Definitely take her class! I hate math and suck at it, and this was the highest grade I've ever gotten in math. She misses quite a bit of class, but she is a great teacher. She helps the students understand the material and is great at preparing you from the exams. She also likes to give easy pop quizzes and surprise extra credit. Take this class!
I seemed to have a very poor experience with her. She missed an entire week of class, and assigned six homework assignments in that time. I missed those homework assignments, and she is not very keen on opening them back up. Not the teacher for me, but she does seem to make everyone else happy.
Material isn't easy but she makes it easy to comprehend. Lots of extra credit for attendance. She can come off a little arrogant but overall she is awesome.
I would HIGHLY suggest taking Professor Hughes. By far the best Math teacher I've had. She is very clear and makes calculus understandable. Her tests come straight from homework problems and she grades fairly. She takes a while to grade but LET HER cause she gives lots of points back. She is super reasonable and class seems to go by fast.
I feel like Hughes changed a lot for this last semester based on the comments below. She really does not teach well nor does she really explain what she is doing. Her tests are very similar to the homework, but she takes points off for the tiniest errors. She is very sarcastic but also VERY rude.. So be prepared if you take her.
Very sarcastic and funny professor, but she is often rude when asked questions. I thoroughly enjoyed her class. She gives TONS of bonus points throughout the semester if you just come to class and follow directions. Easy A if you try at all.
She is the best stats teacher. I had friends with different professors that came to me for help and notes. She gives so much extra credit its almost hard to fail her tests. I enjoyed her class more than I thought I would because she made everything so easy to understand.
Tracy has a talent to teach but she she does not care about her students. My grandmother passed away and her funeral was on one of our quiz days. She would not let me take the quiz early so I received a zero. She is not a very caring or understanding teacher at all. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!
Very rude professer who does not care a bit about her students. With that being said, she does have the talent to teach. She is clear in her lecture. The "required" book is a waste of money, I never even touched it. All homework is online, and she takes pictures on her phone of the class to take attendance.. which also means assigned seating?..
Mrs. Hughes has a dry sense of humor which makes the class a little better, but she is my most strict professor! She does not mess around and you have to try your absolute hardest in her class. The homework is easy but it doesn't count for much. Also ask your recitation teacher for help, she probably won't have time for you.
This class was a bit redundant. A lot of unnecessary requirements come with the course which causes extra work with no reward. Professor Hughes teaches easy and is doing the best she can with the way the course is designed.
Funny and nice professor, but somewhat difficult class. Had daily homework and the tests were harder than the homework. But she if very nice if you go to her during office hours and will help you out.
Professor Hughes comes off very sarcastic. She's pretty clear with her teachings but the class is quite boring. Attendance is MANDATORY. As long as you're in class and your're doing all of your online homework, you should be fine! I would recommend her to anyone who actually wants to work for their grade. Nothings handed to you in her class.
I love Mrs. Hughes! She is a great teacher. Very clear to understand if you are willing to pay attention. Attendance is mandatory and will affect your overall grade. I would take her if you can!
Nice professor, but somewhat difficult class. Had daily homework and the tests were harder than the homework. She if very nice if you go to here during office hours and will help you out. Problem is finding her office even during office hours. Took this class and almost failed it from another teacher. She was a way better teacher.
Makes math easy to understand and even lets you ask questions even though it's a big lecture class!
Tracy is hilarious!!!! I love her class. there are 4 exams and 6 quizzes and she drops the lowest grade of each at the end of the semester. there is a lot of homework(online@Mymathlab) , but it is only due on Wednesday and Sunday nights so you have plenty of time to do it all. Put forth the effort and it should be an easy A
She is great at explaining things and making sure you understand what is going on. She tries to keep everyone laughing which makes the class less boring and keeps your attention. Keep up with the homework and notes, you'll be fine! I wish she taught Calculus, I would definitely take her again!
Not a very good teacher. Relied on the math plaza and online homework to learn the material. Lectures are entirely too boring.
She is a very straight forward teacher, but gives great lectures. Knows what she is teaching and always able to answer a question when asked, can be pretty funny at times. Gives you a fair chance to do well, all that is required of you is show up and participate and you will have no choice but to do well. Attendance is mandatory though!
I believe she is a great teacher. As long as you do your assignments and just pay attention, you should pass. She allows homework to be done until you get a 100. She knows how to actually do math and make you understand it and doesn't just throw formulas at you.
Must attend class. Lots of homework but it helps in the long run. 4 exams are given but the lowest one is dropped. Lectures are straight to the point. She is very easy to understand. I would recommend her.
SHE IS GREAT!! I LOVE HER AND WOULD DEFINITELY RETAKE HER! SHE IS FUNNY, LECTURES ARENT BORING EITHER. SHE IS GREAT AT EXPLAINING LESSONS AND ANSWERING QUESTIONS. EXAMS ARENT THAT HARD AND SHE REVIEWS THEM THE CLASS BEFORE. YOU HAVE HOMEWORK DUE EVERY SUNDAY AND WEDNESDAY NIGHT WHICH ISNT VERY HARD. VERY DO-ABLE IF YOU PUT FORTH THE EFFORT
Any math class you take is going to be hard. Tracy is a SUPER awesome teacher that I would recommend to anyone. The lectures are interesting and although there are a lot of homework assignments it helps a lot in the long run
Professor Hughes is an extremely good teacher who, despite being in a lecture hall of over 200 people, still connects to her students well. There is about 35 online homework assignments to complete but you get unlimited attempts to get each question right. She takes attendance so you absolutely must go to class if you want a decent grade.
Prof Hughes is AWESOME. Her notes for this class were very helpful. as long as you attend class, go to recitation, and complete all of your lab hours, you should be fine in this class. DON'T BE AFRAID TO ASK HER QUESTIONS!
Don't be a distraction in her class because she's likely to call you out in front of your whole lecture class. She's very sarcastic and witty, but is also a great professor. Do the homework and required participation points, it'll carry your grade a lot farther than you think.
I absolutely loved having Prof. Hughes. The recitation class is boring and you won't want to go but GO!! The exam review that they give you in recitation is the test!!!! She drops your lowest test score. Go to class to get your clicker points. The homework is easy if you attend class. You will get the grade you want, if you keep up.
Best math teacher i think I've had in my life. As long as you are in class and pay attention, you'll pass. There is recitation which just helps you understand better. If you need help, just ask. The homework can be extensive, but it is great practice for the test (and its a part of your grade, too). She has some corny jokes--only complaint I have
She is an amazing teacher. She explains the lesson very well. She has the most corny jokes, but I'm here for them. I love Hughes. You should def take her. She's very thorough; she make everything clear!
I had her for college algebra, and now for calculus. I think she is the prime example of a fabulous college professor. She is very thorough in her lectures and gives just enough homework so you can actually know the material. She gives extra credit on random days if you're in class, so I would tell you to be in class every day.
Tracy is a great teacher. She makes the information very easy to understand. This semester she really didn't grade much and graded very easily so I didn't have to put much work in. Attendance and homework are important to keep up with though. Would definitely recommend taking her!
She is great teacher! She is very helpful and knows know to teach! She is a great professor to take! Hope to get a chance to take her again
I took Tracy Hughes for online College Algebra. Her lectures were good and easy to understand, even though she wasn't actually teaching me in person. If I had to take more math classes, I would definitely try to get her. The homework isn't too many problems, and you only have to go on campus for tests and the final exam.
Professor Hughes was awesome. She always offered extra credit on our tests, and made all the information east to comprehend.
I took Professor Hughes's online College Algebra class. She (usually) uploaded the material early. Her lectures are fun, but she tries to throw a joke in every once in a while. Homework can be redone until you make a 100. She gives a study guide for the tests that looks almost identical to the test.
Dr. Hughes isn't a bad teacher, however, I think she made the online math class a little more difficult than it needed to be. There are 4 tests and a final. She drops the lowest test, quiz, and 3 homework. If you don't watch the lecture videos than you will loses A LOT of points. The way she did problems was different than how it's done in MyMath
Ms. Hughes loves to cancel class which seems like a good thing, but it's actually awful when the end of the semester is coming and you have to cram for all of your exams. If you like structure, avoid this class. She is not organized at all and it can make you stressed. Gives out a lot of 100's. Take at your own risk.
She a good teacher, I liked her a lot.
Professor Hughes loves her job, students, and math! She knows how to explain things very well and ensure student understanding. She goes over all the notes in detail on the projector and her homework assignments have unlimited attempts to get a 100%. She also drops the lowest test grade, quiz grade and the lowest 3 homework assignments.
READ THE SYLLABUS. She can't stand it when you ask questions that are in there. She can be sarcastic, but that is just her personality, and she is willing to help anyone who is putting forth effort. She does not put up with rudeness or laziness. She also hates when you use the wrong variables (x is not always right). Amazing Professor. 10/10.
She is not a teacher I would ever feel comfortable talking to outside of class. She is condescending and rude.
She is really entertaining during lectures, gives lots of opportunities to get credit in this class, and always does her best to explain the material in depth.
If you dont participate (using clickers to answer questions) or show up to class you will not pass. Teacher is very helpful if you come to her, even though she is sarcastic. The only bad thing is you can get stuck with a recitation leader that is horrible but you have no control over that. She will point you in the direction to succeed and pass.
This woman makes the exams for all the other 1130 classes and put simple mistake answers on exams so if you do a problem wrong the answer will more then likely be a choice. so basically she tries to trick you. thought I was making A's on all my exams and barely passed most of them because she would be put answers on there to trick you.
Take another teacher. She is a very rude woman and if you have a conversation with her outside of the classroom you will realize that. Also, she tries to make jokes which aren't really funny.
She cares about what she is teaching, however, sometimes it doesn't seem like she cares about the students. She can be really sarcastic, and she can sometimes come off as rude. The coursework isn't that difficult as long as you pay attention in class. Attendance is mandatory!
I came to her office hours because I did not understand what was taught in class and she honestly hurt my feelings because of how rude she was.
shes an okay lecturer but her she isnt very helpful if you ask questions
If you have to take a math class I recommend Hughes. She is the head of her department and offers a lot of grading choices, she is difficult but if you know your information and study and work hard you will do fine. She gives you 3 or so excused absences. You NEED the textbook
Although she can be very blunt at times, she is an excellent professor and does a great job explaining Algebraic concepts in class. The homework is done through a computer program but is explained well in the lecture. Studying for Exams and taking notes will get you the grade you want.
This class was online and super easy. Professor Hughes is super chill she makes her course work accessible and reasonable.
I found this professor to be quite enjoyable. The class that I had was 50 minutes long and we used the entire time every class. The exams are about average, maybe a little on the harder side, and the homework is very easy since you can do it over and over till you get it right.
I took the online version of this class and passed with an A. The online lectures were clear and easy to follow. I've never been amazing at math, but this class was easy because of the explanations. Do the Test Review provided in the Test Information section. It really helps.
Mrs. Hughes can be very intimidating, but her style of teaching helped me learn so much! This class, in general, has a lot of homework, but it will prepare you for tests. There are 3-4 tests and a final exam. All the homework is on Pearson and you can redo it until you get a 100.
Generally a good prof but showed zero grace during the global pandemic. She was horrible and sarcastic when I asked for an extension, even though I had never asked her anything before. Even though she typically was not a bad professor I feel that this showed awful on her character so I would not recommend.
I loved Professor Hughes. I wasn't the best at math in high school, so I was surprised when I did so well in this class. She is lenient about showing up a few minutes late, she is funny, and doesn't overwhelm the work. It's the typical workload of a math class. Mainly a review of all your high school math.
Excellent Professor
There are online lecture videos she makes going over notes we print out. The videos are interacitve and ask you questions before she explains things?? and she constantly messes problems or uses the wrong words and just goes "scratch that," which is SO distracting. Also she never speaks above a whisper, my computer is always on full volume.
Im taking this class online as of right now and Im not that pleased. She definitely has a smart mouth and comes off rude. As a freshman who has to take most of my classes online due to the pandemic (including this one), she could be a lot nicer when people have questions that arent even on the syllabus.
I do not recommend her at all. She is the only teacher I have right now that is not showing signs of decency during the ongoing pandemic. She tells students to "refer to the syllabus" for questions thats clearly not on the syllabus. I bought the Math 1130 notes book and the notes (4.3) did not match to the lecture at all so I was lost.
Very rude woman, WILL get snappy and condescending with you for asking any questions, lectures are so quiet I can never hear her even with the volume all the way up, constantly making mistakes during the lectures and messing you up/ confusing you, very bad professor- does not care about her students and frequently makes this clear with rude behavio
I find Hughes to be condescending, rude, and unrealistic especially when students are trying to adapt to online learning during a pandemic. Avoid her for college algebra at all costs.
This class was online b/c of Covid, and she seemed to use that as a reason to give us 10x the work. She gave out at least 2-3 hours of work every MWF, and we had 4 exams and 5 quizzes before the final. Also, any issues with the lecture videos were blamed on us, and she didn't make many efforts to fix them. She really just had no sympathy for us.
Something about the online classes seemed to make her think that we deserved 2x the work with -2x the support from her. Wed email her about something out of our control and shed respond with oh wells etc. theres 4 exams not including the final and the final cant be dropped. The hw was excessive and the lectures were dragged on way too long. GG
Really good lectures
I had Tracy for College Algebra during a pandemic and girl does not care at all. She isn't helpful at all and if you email her a question she doesn't answer it.
Tracy Hughes is quite possibly the most inconsiderate professor in this university. In times of a pandemic, she decided to drop countless homework assignments, quizzes, exams, and lectures that nobody can get full credit for due to technical difficulties she refuses to help you with. She lacks empathy, respect, and competence as a professor.
Professor Hughes has the emotional intelligence of a rock. She lacks empathy for her students, and refuses to take responsibility for her actions. Many of her assignments experience technical difficulties that could easily be fixed, and students are expected to fix the problems that she has caused. She is not good at explaining math problems either
The workload is ridiculously heavy, to say the least. The class is riddled with technical difficulties which result in zeros in the place of fairly earned 100s. Roughly 10-12 hours/week are necessary to even get your work done. Any legitimate concerns you have will be met with an unempathetic and condescending tone. Please take any other professor.
The class isn't hard, but you do have to work for it. Don't email her with questions before reading the syllabus, she hates stupid emails. Do the homework to the highest grade you can get, it'll help your grade. The lectures are long and tedious but they are helpful for open-note exams. Being online isn't easy but you'll be fine if you do the work.
I emailed her and told her I was unable to do some of the homework because I was out of town for a funeral and would have no computer access. She completely ignored my email, and instead gave me 0s for those assignments. I emailed again and she refused to drop them. I did not have this problem with any other professor. So unprofessional.
She was super strict with the way you tested on proctorio and you would get kicked out for a lot of things. she didnt explain things very well and if you didnt have a specific question she wouldnt answer. She told me her 8year old could do these problems and wouldnt let us use our mandatory calculator on the exams. I do not recommend
During the global pandemic, it was very overwhelming to handle online classes, but Prof. Hughes went out of her way to make it as straightforward as possible. She is rather sarcastic and hates it when she's asked questions that are in the syllabus. Overall, she helped me learn a lot even though the lectures and homework were time-consuming.
the lecture participation grade is impossible to pass. at the beginning of the semester said multiple times not to email her, i'm not kidding. everything is open note yet the exams are very difficult and her lectures are not helpful.
She doesn't teach anything, just submits videos. Her tests are hard, she puts out lecture videos that are absurdly long and they count as a grade. Sometimes it gets annoying because Canvas logs you out as you are watching the video and you will have to restart the whole video again.
Tracy Hughes was the most inconsiderate professor I had this semester. She is rude and tells you not to email her about questions and when you do she always has a snappy tone. Due to the pandemic, we were strictly online and only had video lectures to watch. She gave us 3x more work than I know we wouldve had without the pandemic.
Honestly I hated this class and this is the reason I am about to drop out as a freshman. That is because I cannot have her as a teacher EVER AGAIN. It doesnt help that all the professors are COMBINED. She cannot teach and she makes you feel like you are dumb. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH THIS PROFESSOR
While taking this course, I considered the consequences of dropping out. I was ignored when I asked questions/addressed concerns via email. I was kicked out of the first exam during my 2nd attempt to improve my grade because my computer crashed and she refused to open it again so I could finish my 2nd try, while opening other students 2nd attempts.
She is the professor that recorded all the lectures for online algebra. I technically had another professor, but was taught by Hughes. This class is a LOT of work and would be easier to take in person if you can. The professors did drop a lot of low grades. There are multiple graded lectures per week, online homework, & proctored tests.
She changed the testing procedure right before we left before school. You will need a calculator. Lectures are so boring and unnecessarily long.
This professor is extremely unprofessional and demeaning in her emails with many students. She did not take into consideration the fact that we are all adjusting to online learning and was not willing to work with students who were damn near begging her for help.
Terrible
Excellent instructor
Tons of work and difficult exams.
I almost k-worded myself while taking this class. I emailed her multiple times and was ignored. I asked for a little bit of mercy as I, like many others, was going through hell last semester. She didn't care. She either ignored my emails or she was very rude when responding. I considered the pros and cons of hurtling off a bridge. She didn't care.
Tracy is an excellent professor. I never leave the lecture feeling unsure about the content covered.
Tracy Hughes is the best Math 1130 instructor there is. I notice a lot of people giving her hate, but I also notice my generation wants something for nothing. This is a math class and we are expected to struggle. She is clear in what she expects and knows what she is doing. Just read the syllabus it's not that hard.
Professor Hughes has a mediocre teaching style - coupled with her insensitivity, is one of the worst professors at UTC. She teaches fast and doesn't allow her students to ask questions or get clarification. If you have any issues, even an emergency, she will not give you any sympathy. If you can, take literally any other math class/professor
This class is very difficult. The tests are worth almost your whole grade so even if you do well on everything else, you will not succeed if you bomb a test. She does not answer her emails. Being online, Im always confused. Her notes videos will either overdo questions or not prepare you for the homework or tests. I do not recommend this teacher.
This is by far the hardest math class I've ever taken. The exam reviews are RIDICULOUSLY long and she'll post homework to complete the same week of it. She works very fast and doesn't answer her emails. For a College Algebra class, it's very difficult learning from her.
I know a lot of people in college algebra hate on Professor Hughes, yet I did great in her class and I consider myself bad at math. She is very good at understanding the material, and I ended the class with a 98.
Zero communication with her students. Emailed all semester and replied at the end of the semester stating “ There is a link on the course homepage that says How to get help with Math 1130” If a PAYING student asks for help, teachers should help regardless of if they have a generated website for help….awful DO NOT TAKE with her!
I would definitely take this professor again. A lot of people give her a lot of hate. The exam reviews are a lot of questions but they are given to help you to study for the test. Its a college class, so you shouldnt expect any less. I learned and did really well in her class.
I have never before had a professor tell me to not email them so many times. She blatantly ignores any attempt to reach out to her and is not understanding in anyway. By far the rudest teacher I've ever had. The mandatory videos used in these classes are unnecessarily long and the exams are INSANE. The workload is very very very heavy.
Hughes is rude. Not a bad teacher by any means, but unwilling to work with students outside of class. Repeatedly states never to email her. Will not review a subject in class if it is clear that the majority is struggling with it.
She's a good professor and really helps you understand the material. She may seem difficult at first, but she just wants you to follow directions and pay attention during her lectures. If you show up, you will pass. The class mostly consists of online homework assignments usually 2-3 per week as well as four exams.
She has a very good passion for teaching math and is very nice. The material waa tough for me to understand and I could have gotten a better grade if I studied but I would take her class again.
I thought she was great. People like to complain about her but what were you expecting from a college course? She gives you everything you need to succeed and it is up to you to study and keep your extra points she gives at the beginning of the semester
Class is boring which is to be expected in a large math lecture, the content is hard but exams are easy and she gives you lots of free points at the beginning of the semester. You will need to buy an iClicker and notes book.
good teacher. kind of rude as a person though. 4 exams, a few quizzes, and a final. you have to go to the math plaza for an hour a week if you get below an 80 on an exam. lots of homework but it wasnt too challenging. if you show up to class and pay attention youll be okay.
Tracy Hughes is a professor who allows you to succeed as long as you take the initiative. You will need to buy the course's loose-leaf notebook to take notes in class. Do the homework, exam practices, and go to her final zoom and you will be fine. She gives +3 points for writing your name on the test. She doesn't take anyone's excuses or care (:
Professor Hughes was a great professor and I would definitely take her again! Attendance was counted towards your grade as well as your participation on your iClicker. If you attended the lectures and actually paid attention its really easy. It is an easy class to pass if you show up.
She graded the projects so harshly, and she taught things that she did by hand when everything in Stats could be done by calculator honestly. Overall she is funny, lol dad jokes for real. She is caring about your grade and understanding so just email her. I took her for Algebra also and 10/10 she is great!
I took Professor Hughes during the summer online. Every time I emailed her, she answered and was helpful. You watch videos and it will ask questions, homework and quizzes are on MyLab, then exams have to be taken at UTC Math Center or approved off-campus location. One exam, one quiz, and 3 homeworks are dropped at the end of the semester.
This is an awesome class if you want to have to take six weeks off of your job and not have time to take care of your personal wellbeing. Professor Hughes does, however, a good job at explaining the subject matter. I've accepted financial insecurity and loss of personal time because I need this class as a prerequisite for the fall semester.
Her summer College Algebra class requires an insane amount of self discipline, time, and practice. I have wanted to k-myself every day for the past 4 weeks. Professor Hughes explains the material extremely well and fills in any gaps or misconceptions I had. She is a great lecturer, and I'm sure that her fall and spring semesters aren't as intense.
Terrible. Pretty much expects you to know the answer, if you dont you get told to figure it out. Missed a week due to hospitalization, was told "the assignments were online you should have done them" The TA's available aren't too bad but if you cant dedicate an absurd amount of time just for a randomly assigned quiz to tank your grade, dont.
She is great at teaching and explaining math. I didn't find the course particularly difficult, but there's is a good bit of homework to keep up with.
this class was super hard because i'm bad at math. but she's kind of rude and explains the topics like we already know. if you have a hard time in college algebra like i did i suggest getting tutoring at the math lab or something or it'll catch up with you. also if you do the homework late she shuts it down and you can't make up the grade.
I'm awful at math, so naturally I hate the course itself, but Professor Hughes explains things in a way that makes sense to me. Lots of homework, but not too bad if you don't procrastinate. She's kinda rude at times, but honestly, I can't blame her; I would be too if I had to teach a gen-ed class consisting of hundreds of freshman.
Prof Hughes is really good at explaining the content and making it easy to understand. There isn't too much HW, about 1-2 assignments each week and they took at most an hour total. There are exam reviews though which take much longer. The exams are very true to the reviews so if you do the work and pay attention in class you'll be fine.
I'm not amazing at math but I think Professor Hughes is a great teacher. She is kind of intimidating and can come off as rude but I expected that. There is a lot of homework but I think that it was very helpful in learning the content. Participation and attendance matters and is graded!!!
I love love love Professor Hughes so much. She is a great person and teacher. She may come off blunt and rude but that is just her personality. If you're in a class of 40 people, take time to get to know her and she might just become one of your favorite professors too.
she has a detailed syllabus and sticks to it. There is a fair amount of homework but its not terrible. plenty of dropped grades, but only have 5 excused absences. Good lectures, and you just have to do the work and you'll make a good grade
I am typically math oriented, so this class was fun for me. Her demeanor was odd, but the class was a decent one.
She explains things very well, offered extra credit, and genuinely wants you to learn. She is funny, and lectures go by quickly. Go to class!!! We also got to use a full front/back cheat sheet for exams in this class which helped me get an A on each exam. Final is optional. Wish I could take Professor Hughes 100 times!
Do not take this course as a summer class. This professor assigns anywhere from 1-3 hours worth of videos a day that you are required to watch in full with a quiz at the end. This course is listed as an asynchronous course in the catalog, but you don't find out until it's too late that it is a hybrid and you have to come on campus to take 5 exams.
This is a time consuming that requires 2 part homework assignments for almost every chapter, 15-40 minute lectures, and exams on campus or at an approved location off campus. You have to be disciplined you'll & need the time as well. Happy w/ her teaching style but I'm just trying my best to balance my summer because of how time consuming it is.
I'll be honest, this is the worst summer course I've ever taken. It's not that the material is extremely difficult and not taught well, it's HOW TIME CONSUMING this course is. This course alone takes 10-15+ hours of my free time each week (which should not be the case in any world). I can't even work because this class takes up so much time.
DONT TAKE THIS CLASS. She uses lecturers she recorded herself from 9 years ago, with very hard to understand teaching style. 10-15 hours PER WEEK on homework and lectures. It seems like she puts no effort into this class based on the YouTube lectures. Very frustrating considering all of the time I put into this class.
Just come to class and pay attention, she will tell you the same. There is homework multiple times a week with quizzes every week but generally the homework is harder than the actual tests/quizzes.
Math 1130 with Professor Hughes is a challenge, but if you stay on top of the work, you'll do well. The lectures are informative, and the homework, though time-consuming, helps reinforce the concepts. I found using unstuck AI alongside the textbook very helpful for study prep.
Get to know your TA's, they are your lifeline. The class seems really easy at the start if you took Algebra in high school but do not check out during lecture. You will need to participate in class and pay attention.
Professor Hughes was amazing this past semester, and while I didnt need to contact her at any point, i have heard from many other that she is great at timely responses. her lectures were actually helpful, especially when we began "real world" problems towards the end of the semester, allowing us to put the math into the perspective of our own lives
Pretty good at teaching and explaining the material. Lecture heavy and in-class participation is mandatory. She definitely knows what she's talking about, and also hosts review meetings on zoom before exams.
Super easy. Just make sure to stay on top of your work and pay attention in class, then you will succeed. Tons of easy 100s throughout the year and your grade doesn't completely tank from one quiz. She's pretty generous, but don't anticipate getting personal with her in your 200-person class. Follow directions and pay attention and you will be ok.
Overall Professor Hughes was a really nice person but she did move really quickly in her lecture so if you got side tracked or missed class you can get lost very quickly. We did get assigned lots of homwork but you could do them till you got a 100%. The homework helped me learn the material better than sitting in her lecture.
The class has frequent homework and weighs test heavily, however professor Hughes does a good job at helping you actually learn while she teaches. It is very important to study for this class, and put in a lot of effort. I would take the class, but only if you are ready to put aside some hours for it.
Hughes is amazing. Though you won't get personal with her, you can tell she cares about her students. There are lots of tests/quizzes/assignments, but she and her TA's will help. Be sure to pay attention in lecture and it is easy enough. She gives lots of free points, especially with being able to do homework multiple times, and the dropped grades.
This class is really easy if you just go and pay attention. Homework is easy as well. Idk why she doesn't have a higher rating tbh.
Great class to take, she teaches the material well and has questions to engage in class with using iClickers, which helps you understand the material a little bit better as well. Overall a great class, just do not take advantage of absences, that is all I can warn you about. The exams are not that hard, homework is on Pearson.
Prof. Hughes' class was fairly simple as long as you did the homework to completion and studied the online printable study guides. Her personality left a lot to be desired. If I had any questions regarding the materials, I would've had some reservations about asking them. If you get sick and cannot take a test she will not care.
She seriously wants you to do good in her class! You're able to drop the final and she put it in as a zero so you know what your grade would be if you were planning to drop it all semester. I can't recommend her enough. You also can have a cheat sheet and gives extra credit out. She explains everything well. Go to class you and you'll do great.
LOVED this professor. Never been good at math but she was great at explaining. Have good attendance and do HW and you will pass just fine.
she is honestly a very sweet teacher and makes math very easy to understand. I had to take algebra again since i failed last semster but she helped me alot and didnt make me feel stupid for having so many questions about the material (unlike mr.crippton or wtv) i honeslty reccommend her if u struggle with math
if you don't like math and want to have to good grades don't take her. she tries to be funny but it just ends up being weird. her personality doesn't seem friendly at all. beware of her class.
My only issue is that the final seemed wildly more difficult than any other assessment. Class average when I took it was like a 45, in college algebra that's inexcusable in my opinion. She is a great teacher, don't miss class and things fall in place.
Professor Hughes was very knowledgeable and clear with her lectures. She moves fast during lectures, so studying outside of class is necessary! Overall, the class wasn't too hard and but it takes effort to get a good grade. I would take her again.
