Has great stories, good sense of humour. Looks a lot like a student, cant tell her apart in the hallways.
By far the coolest professor I have ever had! Has great stories and uses a lot of analogies and fun examples. Really easy marker, just wants you to show you put some effort in. I'd definitely take a class with her again.

Easy teacher if one conforms to her style of thinking, answers "outside the box" are generally not welcome.

Tracy's great, I look ffwd to coming to her lectures. She really knows what she's talking about and illustrates it through excellent ie's that I can relate to. You'll never fall asleep in her class, she's too exciting and funny, but at the same time, she's doing her job, which is making us learn about the reality of what actually happens in life!

AWESOME PROF! Keeps you interested throughout the entire class, doesn't work off boring over heads, does alot of free talking and some notes on chalk board, likes input from students, tests were fair but I sucked at her multiple choice because they are all pick out which is true/false. Know your concepts for this class and you will pass!

Tracy doesn't want you to memorize**** from a textbook word for word. Do the readings, draw your own conclusions and have a blast with her eclectic lectures that are everything you ever needed to know about drugs, racism, and living in seedy apartments downtown.
Tracy made going to school fun and exciting, with her quirky style and sense of humor. i had a great experience
Tracy is an amazing teacher. You will love listening to her stories. As long as you do your readings you will do well in her class. I definatly recommend taking her class.
greta teacher with great sense of humour. very engaging style with minimal textbook memorization. creates an interactive classroom setting.
Amazing prof!! Simply the best! She is energetic, and refreshing, not to mention extremely knowledgeable and passionate about sociology. I recommend taking any course with her.
Excellent Prof! Classes were entertaining, learned a lot from her. From beginning until end you will love the lectures. Very interesting in what she has to say. I took 3 classes with her, and all of them were amazing. If you see her class, ADD IT!

She is awesome!
Maybe one of the best teachers I have ever had in my university career. I still carry around the content in my daily life and see how evident race and racism really is. She doesn't want you to memorize content but rather, understand it, which is what sociology is. Quizes are difficult. Content is interesting. Take her classes if you can
She is very enthusiastic and clearly has a lot of passion about this course. But she was very disorganized when it came to written assignments- I felt like there was not enough structure of what she wanted us to write about therefore making it very hard to write.
This woman is an inspiration--and that is an understatement. She is a brilliant Professor as well; very kind woman.
Truly a class I was excited for. She encourages discussion and created a comfortable environment. A class where you will really learn.
Words cannot express Tracy... You better take on of her classes!!
Had her for the race class, it was good. This class is not about the socialized self like it should be, it's just SLGY of Race part 2. I basically feel like I am re-doing last semester's course.
Take her race class! Your life will change for the better. Brilliant woman, inspirational and absolutely hilarious. She defies boundaries and is the best proff I have ever had. You wont regret taking this class.
*sigh, where to start with Tracy? she is a nice enough person but she expects a lot and is looking for very specific things in your essays. Be advised this is a reading course. If you don't read you are so screwed. I love soc, but she has made me hate it... enough said. AVOID!!!!
Tracy should not be teaching. She is a wonderful lady but she can't be subjective. All she sees is skin colour. If you aren't non white, or gay you won't get a good grade because you can't possibly ever understand race. All this course accomplished was to confuse me more. Avoid at all costs. She ruined a class that could have been interesting.
Well people welcome to Race 2. This class is not the socialized self. Once again she just goes on and on about race. Be advised any class with Tracy, regardless of the title or what it says the course is supposed to be about, will be about Race. I think she has a 4000 level in the fall.... I'm sure that's just going to be Race 3. Avoid this prof.
Tracy is a bit different than what you might be used to. she is very radical and passionate about what she is teaching. You have to read all the readings in order to understand the class. take her with a grain of salt. For the record I am white F and got an A- in this class. I think everyone should have to take this class! Read+Attend = good grade.
If you want to change your life and realize how you are a dupe to societies ideologies take anything she teaches! as for the negative comments, I am white and I did very well in her class. She will give you exact mark for the effort you put in. If you get the material and don't maintain the ideology of race then you'll be fine!
She is an amazing prof. Took both her courses and did pretty well. The work load is a lot; she makes you read a tonne of material before class and makes you write a lot for the assignments, but it is so worth it. This course changed how I viewed life and society. And socialized self and race are two different courses, it's just race is such a big p
Lets just sum it up this way: If something negatively affects men in a society, this would be considered racism or discrimination to Tracey. Although, if it affects women negatively, well that's considered culture. It amazed me that most of the students bought into to this outdated perspective. Ouch, very scarey. Otherwise, Tracey is awsome and fun
Amazing, Easy, and to top that off she's by far the best prof. I've ever had!

She has good intentions but needs to pick up her class. Conversations are repetitive and have no direction. A free-for-all that seems ideal but doesn't work. Better off just reading the books. However, she's pretty entertaining.
Good prof. People have to remember that what a prof teaches is their own understanding of the subject. So everyone should chill out.
I have taken all four of Tracy's classes and they are great. These classes are as good as you make them. If you go in with an open mind and challenge yourself to see the world through the eyes of humanity and especially those who are oppressed you will do well no matter what. The readings are also very important, but its great literature.
amazing, she makes you open your eyes and see how upside down the world really is. If you are going to take this class, only tracy wil do!!
Awesome prof! Race and Ethnicity is an awesome class A little repetitive, readings are phenomenal. You must have an open mind to take this class and be prepared to challenged your socialized ways of thinking. Highly recommend! University isn't just about getting a good grade, means to an end. This lady pushes your way of thinking, changed my life!
Plain AWESOME!
Tracy is an amazing proft! you MUST have an open mind or this class will be frustrating. she does not expect anyone to change but just hopes you will listen. the great thing about tracy is she listens to you and is open to your ideas!! one of the most intense classes i have been in but i wouldnt change it, i learned soo much that will apply to life
Life changing, everyone should take her class!
Tracy's class is a class you WANT to come too. Each class you hear students talk about personal experiences and what they've read. Dont take this class if you like structure. otherwise highly recommend.
Great Prof! I took this class not knowing what to expect, and I am so thankful I took it! It was a life changing experience. The content was mind blowing, and I never wanted to miss a class. She knows what she is talking about and I learned so much about the world.
awesome Prof
Wonderful instructor and a wonderful course. The world would be a better place if everyone took it at some point in their lives. A challenging class but very rewarding.
Tracey is amazing. Amazing teacher and amazing content. You need an open mind to take her class but I guarantee with that this class will change your life.
Best Prof EVERRRR...... most interesting class of my life :).show up to her class, talk about your exp and you will get (A)
4th year student, and Tracy is definitely top 3 prof's I had during my entire undergrad program.
best prof ever
Tracey is a nice person but a very unprofessional teacher. This class was the most frustrating and bias class I have ever taken. Tracey presents her views and although the class is discussion based it is very one sided and there is little room for differing opinions. Every class just turned into a venting session that did not go anywhere.
Very frustrating class! It was very difficult to go to this class as every class I walked out frustrated as it always turned into the same discussion every class with a lot of bashing but little talk of solutions and positive ways to address race.
BEST PROF. EVER!!
No structure whatsoever in this class, she does not believe in grades, and likes everyone to sit in a circle in the dark for classes. Although a very interesting topic, nothing of great importance is discussed and there is no actual progress being made in terms of the problem being discussed. Good for people who like to discuss their feelings only.
This class has no structure and although the message being sent is good it should not be occurring in a University class room. However if you need a class that is an easy A this is the class for you. Show up, read, and write your papers and you will excel in this class.
Tracy has the right message however so unorganized. She is so all over te place and does not follow the mru policies at all.
Taking a class with Tracy has changed my option at the profs at mru. She is so diaorganized and does not treat her students with respect. You have to have her option or it is difficult to do well
Just handed in a first paper for Tracy's class. She is all over the place and unstructured.
LOVE this class!!!! just do the papers to get an automatic A! this class will change your life
although her classes are not structured, she really makes you question everything you thought you knew about race and the only reason why people complain about the lack of structure is just because we are all used having people telling us what to do in every class! just because she has a different teaching style doesnt mean you dont learn anything
Tracy's class truly focuses on TRUE learning. And TRUE learning is truly FUN!
Took this course as a a GNED requirement and it ended up being the most useful course of my whole degree, also my favourite. Forget the haters below. They didn't get the message. Your eyes will be open to the truth that is being covered up in the world. It's as easy as listening to what people have to say and receiving an A.
AMAZING PROF!! LOVE HER. IF YOU GET A CHANCE TO TAKE ANY CLASSES WITH HER, I SAY DO IT!!! YOU WONT REGRET IT. SHE FOSTERS AN ENVIRONMENT OF LOVE!!
There is absolutely no point to this class I have no idea how Tracy is even allowed to teach...the final exam is literally a pot luck how is that educational? It was good for an easy A thought so thanks!
Thank goodness for this class -- finally there is a teacher who does't make you feel like a robot! Come to class with an open mind and you will, change, love it, and be inspired!
Tracy is awesome! The people that are complaining don't like to learn. This class is about learning, not memorizing abstract concepts. I enjoyed this class as i can actually use the concepts in real life. She's great!
Avoid. Avoid. Avoid.
Avoid this class and professor at all cost. Consider yourself warned.
Tracy is disrespectful and interrupts students all the time. I like the idea of sitting in a circle and listening to one another, but she says things like, "I don't believe you" and "You're wrong" if what you say doesn't align with her belief system. She might have good intentions but she is so rude that the message gets lost in the delivery.
The comments are all correct in my view. She has a ton of good concepts to teach to each student. You don't get an A for handing in 3 papers. No grade will be given to you until the final grades are due. She won't agree with you if she doesn't believe your experience. Avoid this class if you cant write what she wants to hear!!
The only thing that is a bigger joke than this class is the prof who teaches it. The class is ridiculous, you sit in a circle and listen to people "share their experiences" (ie. hate on other people). Tracy is disorganized, scattered, rude, unprofessional, etc. Expect to be criticized and attacked if your opinion differs even slightly from Tracy's
Contrary to popular belief, this class is not an "Easy A". You have to work hard in terms of really learning. This class is beyond textbooks and the robotic learning we are used to. Tracy takes a different approach to it and isn't that why we came to University? Give it a shot. Go in with an open mind and you'll learn and get a grade you deserve.
Tracy's classes have been foundational to the research I am now conducting for my Master of Science. Authors she references are central to discussions at the graduate level. Being able to engage in discussion while actively applying concepts and methodologies in real-time was integral. To not take her classes would be a detriment to your career.
I love Tracy. Love what she teaches and how she teaches it. Take this class with an open mind and don't be ignorant, and you'll love it.
best teacher
Stay away! Horrible experience with Tracy's class. She is a nightmare prof and has to be one of the worst at MRU. I consistently found her to be extremely unprofessional and scattered. I know that sitting in a circle to learn is part of her "out of the box" teaching style but it ends up feeling like a kindergarten class.
I learned nothing in this class, a complete waste of my parent's hard earned money except for the credit I received. Most classes are simply rants about her completely skewed view of the world as she sees it. I've never seen this ridiculous teaching style before and I hope I never do again. Avoid at all costs!
I loved this class. I learned so much from this class. It was definitely an eye opener for me. She know her subject really well. She is an excellent prof and I would take it again in a heart beat. Great Job Tracy. I have been at MRU for 3 years and she is one of the best prof ever.
Tracy is by far one of the best professors i have ever encountered. She cares about her students, takes you deeper into the books, creates a space where everyone learns together, and has completely changed the way i see the world and myself for the better. I can't imagine being a good sociologist without her
I took a couple of Tracey's classes and you only ever get one side of the arguments, which of course is her side. She is an exceptionally entertaining professor, and her classes are interesting, but if you want to discover the 'other' side of the arguments, you won't find it in her class. Check out Pat Condell's videos before taking her class.
This class was a great experience. The tough love you receive from Tracy and other students in the class is necessary to understand the objective of the class. Anyone who tells you not to take this class or has anything negative to say about Tracy clearly didn't care enough to listen. Take this class!! And take it with an open mind.
Racism is not a cognitive subject; it is an emotional issue (and Tracy recognizes that our behaviours are grounded in our emotions). You will not be challenged in the conventional university sense; emotional intelligence cannot be taught. You will be defied to introspect through others experiences which will make this class entirely rewarding.
Very passionate-wonderful to see. However, makes broad judgements about her students/will put words in your mouth, will dismiss your POV or comment if you say something that does not resonate with her. Rather aggressive approach, although I understand this may be a strategic teaching style. This is only my opinion, try the class before you judge
I feel like she does not foster the open environment that she claims to have. She will always cut you off as soon as you begin to speak and shut you down if you don't say exactly what she wants to hear. Considering this is a mind and society class, the only thing we talk about is race and we hardly ever even breach any other subjects.
Tracy is one of my most beautiful and honest souls I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. She changed my life; she turned my world upside down, but I would not have it any other way and I would do it all over again. I recommend taking ANY class you can with her! Theories of race and ethnicity, mind and society, socialized self; It will change you
Amazing.
Would definitely not take her class again. Too much drama in this class, too personal. There are no boundaries at all. Makes broad generalizations, summarizes your experiences and reduces you to one story she remembers you by. If you can sit through it one semester sure, not sure if I could handle more than one.
Fosters a supportive environment, encourages introspection and relation of theory to personal lives. Difficult, but worth the work if you're willing to try.
waste off my time. You don't learn anything in this class. All that happens is that you get attacked no matter what you say or do. DOUBLE STANDARD.
Tracy's class is dialogue based, and her approach is unconventional. It can be frustrating when Tracy interrupts and sometimes generalizes, but that's just her style, and often times it's successful because it helps you cut straight to the truth. If you can put your ego aside and actually listen, she makes a lot of sense. She is kind and caring.
Go in with an open mind or you will get offended very easily. She has ALOT of passion in the subject and some students will not understand her approach at first. Give it some time and you will see that she is all love. If you are willing to work hard (reflect on yourself and show it), you will get an A easily
This class will CHANGE YOUR LIFE! Go into it with an open mind and heart. Tracy is the most loving, caring professor. PLEASE don't let your defensiveness get in the way of your learning and loving. The dialogue in the class is pure genius, and I promise you everything Tracy said is out of love and appreciation for you and your past. The. Best.
The teaching style of this course was positively different. It's not a regular powerpoint lecture where you can easily fall asleep. Tracy keeps you thinking and engaged in her classroom, that is, if you humbly listen with an open mind to what she has to offer. This course offers a life-changing perspective, and you need to work hard to see it.
Defiantly a class that will change your whole way of thinking. Do not listen to students that say not to take her class if your caucasian! I was originally very nervous to take a class of Tracy's, and now iv taken two, and have loved them both! She really does care deeply about all of her students. Just please come into the class with an open mind!
Would not recommend this class to anyone. There is often generalizations made about you. The lectures are "pedagocial" but mostly consist about people venting out their personal problems. It often results in people geting over emotional and Tracy will often make you speak for certain people in society such as being a representative for all women.
If your experience doesn't fit her narrative then you're going to have a bad time. I believe it is really important to learn about your own complicity in racism, sexism, homophobia, etc. and these discussions/realizations are often uncomfortable (as they should be!) The vibe Tracey promotes is aggressive, sarcastic, and reductive.
Tracy is amazing & truly has so much love for every single student. People often judge the class by things they heard, but you truly have to experience it for yourself and I guarantee you will discover eye-opening things about yourself. You learn so much and I actually looked forward to class. Best part, no midterm or final! Highly recommend :)
Interesting teaching style, but super aggressive. Would not take again, I don't like sitting through a class where your cut off and belittled if your narrative is different then the one she is looking for.
So many people give Tracy a hard time, she is brilliant at what she does though and anyone who says otherwise obviously didn't care much for the course, she is so intelligent, and hard working and really makes you think about the issues in society, and makes you realize things about yourself that you may or may not have know, very accommodating too
Wow, I very rarely find myself thinking about classes outside the actual class. Tracy has impacted my life in such a positive way and for that I thank her. Do not prejudge this class from what you hear from other people. It will open up your eyes and change the way that you think, obviously in a good way. We need more profs like her. Truly a gem.
Tracy truly is passionate in what she does. She made me feel welcome in class since the first day. People will oftentimes think she targets others, but this is not her intention, she simply is trying to evoke conversation and peel away the layers to get to the inner dimensions of us as HUMANS. She is amazing, everyone should take a class w her :)
The only thing that I learned from this class is that tenure is a hell of a thing.
At least the books are good..
I didn't wear my seat belt driving to school on the days I had this class in the hope I would get in an accident.
This class is miserable.
I graduated a few years ago, when I was at MRU i HATED this woman. I thought she was rude & hypocritical. BUT. after living in the real adult world, she was right on the money about everything, It completely changed how i think about things. I wish i could go back to thank her. It may feel like she is judging you, but she really isnt. A real gem.
She is one the most realest teacher ever. She teaches you without catering to your feelings while still respecting you. Race and Patriarchy is a topic we don't learn about enough and she is amazing at it. Makes you feel comfortable and welcomed. She is so understanding towards deadlines, and truly wants you to succeed and LEARN and REALIZE. LOVEHER
Tracy catches a lot of flak. Her classes aren't easy. I've taken all of them. They're unconventionally challenging; she makes you look at how YOU are implicated in patriarchal/race structures, and how those around you uphold them. It's deeply uncomfortable and indescribably valuable. I'm a white guy. If you're ready, this will change your life.
Tracy is a real gem of a professor and I love her! Probably the only real & down to earth prof I will ever have in my lifetime. Her classes are a breath of fresh air in their structure. The subject/content is heavy. Her grading is the best in my option her comments are worth the ink that's used. HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Weird. No other words to describe this class just weird.
Such an amazing and unconventional class. Discussions become uncomfortable because of the realization of where you stand in this world, not because of her teaching style. I highly recommend for you to take her classes if you want to come out of university a more educated individual, as education is not just what you memory dump for an A.
This class fell short for a profound potential for change. Anger, resentment and blame were themes common in this class, leaving many students feeling segregated and shameful. Healing comes from moving through these pitfalls in humanity, not ruminating on them without any resolution. I am mixed race, and I am grateful for every piece of me.
Tracy is without a doubt the best professor I've ever had. Her classes are so unconventional and emotional. She's really understanding about deadlines and genuinely wants all of her students to do well.
One of my favourite profs ever. Loved her in Soc. of Race and Urban Soc. Such a caring prof with amazing analysis. Super relatable and funny.
This class with Tracy has helped me heal from things I didnt even know I was going through. This class alone has taught me more than all of my other sociology courses combined. Tracy encourages people to open up about anything and everything that may be bothering them and connects it to the course material and objectives in such an intelligent way
Tracy is hand down the best profesor I have ever had. She truly cares, her classes are unlike any other I have taken and I think everyone would benefit from taking them.
Taking a class with Tracy will definitely change you to be a better person! By far my favourite prof in MRU and the class is unlike anything I've ever taken before. It is not your traditional class and its impossible to do badly if you actually participate!
There is no other words to describe Tracy's class other then pathetic. It is unclear what she is trying to accomplish in the class. She is not trying to fix the problem of race but rather creates a further divide between those of color and those who are white. If you say anything that goes against her thinking she will cut you off and disregard you
Tracy is just absolutely amazing!! Only taking this class if you are truly there to learn. This class can be emotional at times which is what makes it difficult but it is so worth it! She is my favourite person, just so sweet and caring.
Tracy is awesome, and this (The Socialized Self) was my second course with her after Race & Ethnicities. The class is dialogue-based and tackles oppressive structures, starting with dominant groups. Forces you to introspect and see things different around you. Participate, participate, participate - it's for your own benefit.
Tracy is a true dialoguer and knows how to bring it out in others. Mind & Society is my third course with her of the three she teaches. She is brilliant and gets your thinking about what really matters - all our thoughts - thus MIND and society. Be prepared to share those thoughts since that's what makes the course so valuable.
Tracy is an amazing human being. Contrary to a lot of the negative feedbacks on here, she does not target white students, she strips them of their implicit biases for their own good, as well as of others. Take Race & Ethnicity as a foundation for The Socialized Self and Mind & Society.
this was my first class with tracy and it won't be my last. I liked how I was faced with my own biases and had the chance to peel back layers of myself that I wouldn't necessarily do if I wasn't in this class. Overall, the class was good but one thing I didn't like was how she would people on the spot and would shut people down when talking.
After all these social movements going on, if you truly want to begin to UNLEARN racism and UNLEARN systems of oppression in an intense, confrontational environment (that is extremely effective) , this class is for you. bet all the bad reviews are people who just got called out for their ignorance for the first time.
Great for minority groups to talk about their oppression for three hours. Dont even think of voicing an opinion different from class mates or her, as you will feel the wrath. This class made me so upset & I felt personally attacked. It has nothing to do with an inability to check your privilege, being sensitive or lacking introspective...
One of the best classes I've ever taken. She seriously opened my eyes to racism and issues around the world. Her class has great discussions and everyone opens up about their issues. Participation matters but you only have 3 assignments throughout the semester. I really recommend this class.
Tracy is amazing, if you participate and open yourself up you will do really amazing. She is tough and blunt but will make you see the world so much differently and help you grow as a person.
I dont know if its because were online and its uncertain times but tracy was so caring, patient, and kind this semester.
Tracy is one of those professors who really, genuinely cares about you as a human being. She's kind but blunt, maybe people don't like that quality about her but you can tell she still cares about you - even in your darkest moments. A rare gem.
Tracy is hands down the best prof at MRU. She changed the way I see the world and pushed me in ways that no other profs have. She is incredibly caring. She puts herself out there for her students. She challenges us for the best. Take her class and truly listen. You will not regret it. She is not a perfect person but she does not pretend to be one.
Tracy is definitely NOT for everyone... she will call you out in class and if you have an opinion that differs from her she will keep pressuring you until you either give up or agree with her opinion. If you are white (especially male) she will call on you a lot more than anyone else. Entirely discussion based... will not take her class again
Tracy gets you questioning your own prejudices not only white people! I am a POC. Its hard to sit in these classes but I promise getting past how uncomfortable it can make you feel is the first step. She wont give up on challenging you, which you'll learn to appreciate. Don't let comments scare you from experiencing a class thats worth it
Don't listen to the negative reviews. This class is about recognizing the ways we oppress others and the ways in which we have been oppressed which can be difficult and emotional. You really have to stick it out to understand what she's talking about. This is my second class with her and she changed my life. Has so much love for her students.
an AMAZING class. You're graded on 3 papers, which can be difficult in the sense that you reflect on your own experiences. No notes, we sit in a circle and you will be challenged but the point of dialogue is to gain a better understanding of the world. I've never met a professor like Tracy, honestly the most caring and loving prof. Take this class.
the most amazing professor and human. this class will open your eyes to the way you have been oppressed and conditioned to oppress others. you will see the world so differently after taking her. negative comments come from not being able to face your inner self in the ways you have been conditioned.
Tracy is the most wonderful and loving human being. She has truly changed my life and the way I think. I look forward to her class every week because it is such a safe and loving space.
Tracy is a very caring yet knowledgeable person, Tracy changed my view on the world and the view of who I was. throughout the semester she remembered what everyone says and she will never forget. also if you skip her class, she will 100% know so attend every class because it's worth it. will 100% take all of her other class next year!
i feel like she used to get how to run the class but now it seems like shes lost the foundation of how a class should run. dialogue classes are amazing but hers somehow miss the mark for such powerful conversations. I think that she can make the class AMAZING but falls short in leading dialogue, listening without interrupting and not picking favs
I feel like everyone who sends in horrible reviews have never had any of their ideas challenged. Tracy is an amazing prof and really makes you think about the way we were conditioned to be. As a white person in the class I do not in any way feel like I am not getting heard. She challenges you to realize that things are not always as they seem.
Tracy is one of the best teachers I've ever had because she's REAL. This class has been incredible, if I could take it again I would lol. I think every single student at MRU should take this class. Not only is it fulfilling but it's life-changing. Academic-wise, this class only has 3 papers and no tests or final which is awesome.
Tracy is one of the most pure hearted and real professors out there. She genuinely cares for her student. Never have I learned so much in a class, and learned about myself. Anyone who says don't take this class is has gone their whole life being babied. Take this class with a positive attitude and open mind. You will learn a lot
Tracy is an inspirational, compassion, and kind soul. I have learned so much through Tracy's classes that I carry on with me years later after her classes. My colleague once told me she is the reason he has worked at the Alpha House for years. She was also my reference for my job. I am incredibly thankful for her class the the books we read in them
Tracy is an angel and overall amazing prof! She is honestly one of the best professors I've had and her classes are always so interesting. The course is very easy in terms of grading material since there are only three papers based on three separate books. It is a superb class and I would definitely be taking more classes from her!
Tracy is an amazing professor and cares about everyone! So far, her class is the only class where learning is more important than grades. It was such an important class because I was learning so much about myself, the world and others around me. The class consist of dialogue. I encourage everyone to take a class with her. (Graded on 3 papers).
The topics covered in this class were very impactful and powerful, however, Tracy will often pressure people to talk even if they are evidently uncomfortable / not ready. In addition, Tracy claims the class to be a safe space, but she can be very critical of things that do not align with her own beliefs and values.
Really unique class that promoted great dialogue. Tracy seems to genuinely care for her students and makes an effort to get to know them individually. Discussion-based classes can be difficult for me as an autistic student (I have sensory issues and the classroom can get loud), but it was very worthwhile regardless.
It is required to speak and share during class if you expect to receive a good grade. It is about learning how we are socialized to behave and think in ways that negatively impact people within society. If you are willing to grow your mind and answer some difficult questions, I recommend taking this class
Tracy is an amazing prof! I have taken her for several classes over the years, class consists of discussion only. If you do not like to talk or be vulnerable her classes are not for you. She comes off as very opinionated and makes people question life. You are marked on three papers based on readings. 10/10 recommend
Tracy is the best professor in MRU. She talks about important deep topics and you need to be vulnerable to participate in this class. She will pick on you but it's important for this class since it is based on dialogue and personal experience. Sadly, people who don't like this class usually just don't want to acknowledge their privilege.
I love love love, Tracy. She is not like other profs who stand in front of the class and teach. We would all sit in a circle (her included), and we would have very deep and important conversations about society and racism. Her class always felt like a hang-out session, which was great, but it was more enriching. IDK how to really explain it.
was really excited to take this class as i thought the negative reviews were exaggerated. i was wrong. Tracy claims her class is a judgement free zone, however if you don't have the exact answer she is looking for she will belittle you until you agree with her. her class is not a safe space for anyone with anxiety, as she claims that's an excuse.
Tracy clearly cares about her students and really challenge them. It can be hard to take because it can be seriously challenging, but it's worth staying in the class because you can learn a lot about your privilege and how it harms others. Tracy is responsive to feedback in class and people have the opportunity to discuss and disagree.
Tracy is the angriest prof and has the biggest "chip on her shoulder" that I have ever encountered. I have taken many classes in my University career and her's is the worst. I witnessed so many unprofessional things from her that it almost made me sick. Stay away if you want to keep your sanity!
Tracy is abusive. She bullies her students and allows students to bully their peers. She expects students to open up about their trauma and then allows other students to gang up on them. If you have anxiety or any other pre-existing mental health issues, do not take this class.
I LOOOOOOOVE Tracy!! one of my favourite prof in this uni easily.m Her classes is all about discussion and feel free to talk , the more you take the easier the class will feel like. Tracy fosters a caring open environment. She is blunt but very effective if you go in there with an open heart.
In my four years of university have never met a a professor so uncaring, cruel or dismissive. She openly brags about how many students drop her class, how many times she has been reported to the dean & how she can't be fired. I thought these reviews were all overreacting, or overly sensitive, but if you need to take this class to graduate, drop out
Amazing prof! The lectures were heavy at times, but they're needed. I learned a lot, and I respect Tracy so much. I've never been so moved by a class before. Sociology isn't my major, but I'm really glad I took this class.
The instructor was made aware of my chronic illness through the accommodation forms. I missed a few classes due to my chronic illness. She screamed at me in front of the class because I had missed "so many classes." I couldn't explain just how horrible I felt when I was told "I didn't look sick." It was a medical disability.
Tracy is the most unkind person I have ever encountered. She lacks empathy and will belittle you in front of everyone. Those that are fans of Tracy have been brainwashed by her cult leader behavior. Avoid Tracy at all costs if you have any pre-existing mental health issues (something she claims white people use as an excuse).
Tracy exemplifies unprofessionalism as a professor. While she states to promote introspection and self-reflection, remarks deemed erroneous or contrary to her perspective are met with belittlement and public humiliation. Such behaviour undermines the educational environment & raises concerns regarding her suitability in an academic leadership role.
Her class structure is not like any other university class. You sit in a circle and talk about issues such as racism, patriarchy, and sexism. She does pick on students. The class can be tough mentally but it's worth it.
Tracy's class is challenging but thought-provoking. She pushes students to confront their biases, though her teaching style can be divisive. unstuck study was helpful for review during prep.
Tracy is a wonderful professor. This is the first class I have ever taken where I feel welcomed, and confident enough to speak my truth. She reveals the reality of our unfortunate world and encourages you to self-reflect all the time. Those who dislike. the class either never came or were caught off guard by the truth in themselves. She cares alot.
Don't take this class if wont take it seriously. It ruins it for others and you'll regret it because it becomes obvious quickly who cares and who doesn't. Yes, the class is tough but the things you learn and the conversations you have are very important.
This was the third class I took with Tracy. I didn't admit to being homophobic/racist in the first class because who wants to admit to being those things? The truth is that we all are, and once you accept and admit it, you can understand how it affects yourself and others. Just be honest with yourself in the class. No one is perfect.
I am a white person and all I can say is Tracy loves her students and truly wants to see a better world. I have taken 2 classes with Tracy and will be taking more because she is the only prof that gets me to self reflect on my own biases with love and compassion. This course is hard but THATS THE POINT, fixing yourself is not easy. TAKE THE CLASS.
Tracy was the most unprofessional staff member I ever encountered, she creates the opposite of a safe classroom environment. She berates students and publicly humiliates them. A PhD psychologists in counselling at the school believed Tracy to be a threat to student wellbeing, I couldn't agree with her more. If you have anxiety, avoid this prof.
