Professor Porter rocks! She is very passionate about math and is always there to help. Would definitely take again!
Professor Porter makes algebra clear. If you aren't great with math she is a good professor to take bc she explains things very simply and very well. I had to show up to every class and be engaged, however. Her class was not an easy A by any means - but I feel like as long as I was willing to make an effort I would do well.
Best Math teacher I've ever had. Will answer texts about HW or other math questions anytime. Gives great review materials before tests. Very nice, wants everyone to get an A. Will stay on a subject until entire class gets it. Always offering out of class help. Explains things well, very patient. Wish she could teach all my math classes!
She was one of the best math teacher I have had in a long time. Granted I did not get the grade that I wanted (an A) but I still think she is great. I would have taken all my math classes from her if it was possible.
Amazing professor. She wants you to pass and will do anything to help you understand and to help you get the grade you want
An amazing teacher. She's here to help you perform at your best and help you get the grade you need in order to keep you're grades right.
If you take professor Porter make sure you're comfortable with her rubric. It's only 4 test, the lowest is dropped, homework, and the final. You have to do well on at least two test to pass her class with a C. If you feel like you need extra help she'll help you. There is also no extra credit or any kind of make up work.
Prof. Porter was great. Young teacher who care about her students and their success. Gives a good amount of homework but its all pretty easy. She also opens up all the homework at the end of the semester so you can finish it if you didnt do it originally. Tests aren't too bad if you study. Final Multiple choice. EAsy class & easy to skip.
Professor Porter is a nice woman. However, niceness doesn't help you pass the class. There are no quizzes which doesn't allow much wiggle room if you don't do well on the tests. The lectures are about 45 mins and consists of her re working problems from the ppt. There is no extra credit. A good thing is she unlocks all of the homework for finals.
Professor Porter will do anything she can to help you succeed if you ask. Not mandatory attendance but she does always take attendance to see who's coming and she keeps that in mind. MyMath Lab is a big part of the class, but there is always enough time. If you do poorly in this class, it will have had nothing to do with her.
Professor Porter is a nice person. Her teaching style is very fast paced and more of a review. She is willing to help anyway she can as long as you have lots of time to put into the class. If you do not have the basics down pat already do not take this class. Take another professor that teaches at a slower pace. Test are very difficult!
DO NOT TAKE IF YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO HAVE HOMEWORK EVERY DAY
Tests are much harder then what she will teach although she gives out practice tests usually a week before and they are exactly like the test. They are only 20 questions long so learn the practice tests you will easily get an A on the tests! Homework every night although it can be annoying it helps you review the material . drops lowest test grade
Professor Tracy is an amazing Professor. I had her for 50 min on Monday, Wednesday , and Friday. She was always willing to help with homework and give you a clear understanding in that short period of time. She gives you practice test which is basically the key to passing tests. Take advantage of the opportunities she gives you.
Professor Tracy was an amazing professor. I was very good at math in High School and was struggling with the material at the beginning of the course. She helped me tremendously. It is a math class so you have to practice and do the homework to understand the stuff. I went to office hours everyday before class and got a high A in the class. Take her
If you just "get through" college algebra, this is the prof for you!!! She hates to see people fail and will help you in any way possible. If you need to truly learn algebra for future math classes, I would take someone else. Her lectures are scattered and doesn't really teach you. Most of the stuff I learned was from Mathlab.
She does not teach at a slow pace, so if you need a professor that does, don't take her. So much content in so little time. Was not very helpful to me personally. Tons of homework. If you don't like math, PLEASE find another professor because she's not the one for you unless you dont mind asking for help. You literally have to make time to get help
Pretty easy class, do the practice tests and you should get an A because the real test is basically the same thing. Opens up homework for the last week. Recommended
We have Homework due three days a week in this class. She is nice by giving you a study guide that looks just like the test BUT the 20 problems on the test are all different types of problems so it is super hard to remember all of the rules. She also only gives you 50 minutes to do it. She doesn't teach well and she favors only certain students.
She is the BEST math professors ever. She really cares to help her students. She gives you reviews that are just like the test. As long as you know how to do everything on the review you are bound to get an A on the test. She uses MyMathLab which I think helps more than her teaching but definitely take her! Even if you are late she will let you in.
Mrs. Porter is an AMAZING Professor. She always makes sure everyone knows what's happening during class and will go over online homework at the start of every class. She always makes herself available for students and does her best to set everyone up for success. I HIGHLY recommend taking her for any math course.
Very good teacher but I think it wast too hard for an entry level math. A lot of friends say other trig professors are easier. She says she gives partial credit on test but I don't see it. Homework 2-3 times a week.
I'm terrible at math but Tracy Porter made it easy! 4 exams and 1 final; drops lowest grade. There's a non-mandatory pre-test at the start of the semester, if you get an A you exempt from the final. Gives lots of chances for you to do well. Gives study guide that is exactly like the real test! Do the study guides a few times and you will get an A!!
At first I did not really like her, but she really cares about her students! She doesn't want to see anyone fail. Offers lots of practice, very similar to tests. Opens up homework last week. Make all A's on tests and you can skip the final. Regardless, she'll drop your lowest test grade!
Ms. Porter's class is great. She cares about her students and wants each one to be successful. However, do not expect to simply get an A just by showing up. Doing all of the homework and practice tests is in your best interest. To put it simply, you will get whatever effort you put in.
The only way I actually learned anything was from doing the loads of homework she gave. Tests weren't hard, but you need to know what to do, and she's not clear on that.
I love this class and yes i would definitely take this class over again, if you actually go to every single lecture you'll actually learn something. She's a great professor overall.
Tracy had a more energetic teaching style, which really helped me get engaged in her class. She was funny and had good lectures. Most of the work was done off the computer in my math lab such as homework and some test. I liked this class just don't get behind cause it's hard to catch up
Mrs. Porter is a great professor who is always willing to help. As long as you put forth effort, you will do well in this class. If math isn't your thing, she will do her best to help you. There is a homework assignment for every section, but it really helps you understand the information. She is a great professor who wants her students to succeed.
Professor Porter was really sweet and a decent teacher. She was never very clear on her instructions for tests and homework which made it a bit more difficult. She drops the lowest test grade but is a tough grader overall. She will take off points for not showing work even if there is not work to be shown.
She was definitely one of my favorite professors. she really wants you to do well so she will help you any way she knows how. She taught at a good pace and explained things well. If you're not a math person I would go to her office hours. Homework is very helpful so pay attention and do well on it.
I took her class 3 days a week but we only actually met twice a week if that. The test were online for us and the study guide was just like the test. Easy A to get in this class if you actually put forth the effort and lowest test grade gets dropped. If you have any questions about homework, she'll answer them at the beginning of class
A very nice lady who knows her stuff. She gives PLENTY of chances to answer student questions on homework. The homework is a lot of work, so I wish she would have made it a larger portion of our grade. Keep up with the homework and you'll do fine. TAKE HER ADVICE: take notes in class, make an organized notebook of homework, and you will do well
She is an easy A as long as you put in a little effort! Everything that is for a grade is online through MML. The grading criteria is laid out on day 1, so it's easy to keep up with. She explains everything in class, and will answer your questions. Also, she's super easy to reach outside of class. Definitely take her if you're not great at math!
She is a really good professor! I enjoyed the class!
She teaches things like you are already supposed to know the material. She teaches way too fast. She doesn't teach for understanding. Some of the stuff is so long and she only explains it once. That makes it hard to understand. Do not take her
Best experience with a professor I've had at KSU so far. Makes the material easy to learn as long as you pay attention. Plenty of grade redemption and you know exactly what you're going to be tested on which is very helpful. Goes out of her way to help students and make the class enjoyable. She makes a difficult class manageable and enjoyable!
Professor Porter would be a great teacher if she was not teaching trig. The class is really hard if you do not have background in trig or pre calc already. The first half of material is fairly easy, but once you get past the unit circle she does not explain it very well. Gives bonus points for attendance and going to class is helpful
Professor Porter is a wonderful teacher that takes the time to make sure that each student understands the material she is covering. She has a very unique teaching style that makes class entertaining and keeps you focused. While trig itself can be kind of difficult, you still obviously have to take the time to do work. 10/10 would recommend.
Very pleasant personality and willing to help for clear understanding
Professor Porter isnt amazing but shes also not terrible. She teaches at a fast pace and somewhat expects you to already know the material. She does make it easy to take notes by writing out thorough steps to work out equations. The grades in class consist of 4-5 homework assignments per chapter and tests (one online). Not too bad
Porter was an okay professor. She was very helpful if you asked questions one-on-one which was nice. But, her tests were about 15 questions which does not give you leeway. We had 5 tests, no extra credit, and homework due the day of the test. The examples in class did not help me when I was doing homework, but I could figure it out eventually.
Porter is a high school teacher and it shows. Her tests were just like the homework from the book, but her lectures were boring at best, with her reading off slides and making comments. She seems as if she barely knows the subject, while looking at mathematical rigor in the rear-view mirror. Overall, easy A professor, but you won't learn anything
most of this class is done online. I barely went to class, and did really well in the course, because the online system is great. she's organized and her instructions are clear. lots of homework every week. tests are simple, and she gives out review guides for each test
Terrible teacher. I didn't go to class half the time because she just repeats the stuff in homework and makes it so boring it's insufferable. Doesn't help you with anything and leaves many students out to figure out the harder material for yourself. I was in a group chat and everyone was scared to fail some tests because she does nothing to explain
Professor Porter seemed willing to help at the beginning of the semester. I expressed my concerns within the first week of school, she said I would be fine if I did the homework and went to class. When I was struggling she was not willing to help and she would just tell me to do the test review again. I would not take this class or professor.
She is not very friendly to talk to on a personal basis and her lectures are not helpful if you are not already very good in alegbra.
Professor Porter relied on an online math program to teach us- she would do examples of questions from the homework on the board, but I found that her class was boring and slow paced, so I taught myself. My father died during the semester, so I wasn't able to complete a homework assignment or a test- neither of which I was allowed to make up.
Probably my least favorite professor at Kennesaw State. The lectures were so painfully boring that most of the class stopped attending, and all she did in class was reiterate examples that the online ALEKS homework gave. The tests were difficult, but the reviews were helpful.
This might be the worst teacher Ive ever had her class isnt too hard but overall she isnt nice or empathetic towards her students and also doesnt bother to teach but instead is worried about you getting your homework done and making sure she gets through her lectures. Bad
This was the worst math teacher ive ever had. she always sounds lost when shes teaching. she doesnt go much in depth when teaching. the online program used in her class for homework and some tests is very frustrating. she is very inconsiderate towards her students and any problems they have with assignments or material. do not take her class.
Lets be honest. Lectures are so boring, she is not caring or helpful. Save yourself the time, effort, and stress and don't take this class. 4 tests, 1 final, so much homework every week. RUN AWAY!
Lectures were very boring, not easy for me to pay attention. She is not lenient or empathetic. Reviews helped a lot for tests. Just not my favorite teacher and seemed unapproachable.
I was not happy with this class this semester. She overall wasnt very helpful to individual students, and her lectures were boring. She also does not round up or help with grades, even when your grade is on the verge of being a higher letter. It is fairly easy material simply because of Aleks, but the lectures didnt help much.
At the beginning of the semester she told us she would not curve final grades which is reasonable. Her study guides are exactly the same as the tests just with different numbers. Aleks is used online for the homework which is very annoying, but the entire algebra department uses it so there is no way out of it.
Lectures are boring. Homework assignments are due every week. Adds 10 points if you skip less than 3 classes. She's nice and offers help if needed.
She is the worst math teacher I have ever had in my life. She is a terrible teacher I got As on all my tests due to the use of Aleks. She is rude and belittling so I stopped asking questions be ready to teach yourself. I failed the final because the review was 50 questions but the final was 25 it was hard to know what to give your main focus to.
Tracy Porter is by far THE WORST math teacher i have ever had. She using this math program that is basically going to teach you all the work because she doesnt teach good. All the test are open ended. Only thing good is that her reviews are just like the test. But I would not recommend
Overall wasn't the best teacher not the worst. Her study guide were exactly like the test, so if you do those you'll be fine. 4 tests and a final no quizzes and homework due every week. Don't be afraid to take her, just do you're homework, show up to class and study you'll be fine.
Super impressed my Mrs. Porter! I sat in many of her lectures and received exactly what I put into the class. Her homework and tests were on point for the class material. The use of ALEKS was decided upon by the math department. Mrs Porter made great use of extra sessions, and invited all to attend extra sessions to prepare for the final. YESPLEZ!
Decent but would not take again. Does not really care about your grade in the class. Was not prepared for the fina at all.
worst teacher ever. I'm actually really good at math and thought i was going to get an A in the class, but she's so bad. If I didn't get an A I was expecting a B. She has not idea what she is doing; a kid in our class was constantly correcting her and she would try to act like she was right and then when she realized she was wrong she would laugh.
Tracy is a pretty fair teacher. I had to work for it but it went well. Lectures are good, come prepared. At times she tries to make funny jokes but hey, this is math. Would take her class again
She taught math, I passed the class. Study and take advantage of the study guides!
Tracy knows her math. Attendance is necessary to succeed. Plenty of opportunities to ask questions.
Blows through problems. Hard to follow lectures
Professor Porter was pretty nice. She gave clear lectures and was good at explaining the material. I found that she gave us enough time to complete assignments and the tests were practically the same as the study guides. As long as you complete the homework on time and understand it for the most part, you will pass the class.
She's a great professor, she was always easy to contact outside of class and her lectures were all helpful. I took the synchronous online class so attendance was extra credit if you showed up. She was very clear on what to do and if you had any questions, you could ask her to go back over something and she would without hesitation.
Tracy Porter was great this semester for my online class! I really liked her set up with Pearson: 1 homework assignment due each week (not too many hw questions), 3 tests, 1 cumulative final. Signing into class was important if you wanted to take notes and it gave extra credit points at the end. Completing HW + Study Guides A's on tests & final.
She gave lots of extra credit for showing up to class, so make sure you always attend even though it's not required. She had the math website set up to see where the students are struggling and help them easily. The tests are the only thing graded, so you have to make sure you do well on those, but she gives you lots of help.
If you are not already good at algebra, I wouldn't recommend taking this class. There is hw on aleks every week, tests for every 3 homeworks, and a final. She doesnt do extra credit and she doesnt really care if you pass or fail. She messes up sometimes while doing math on the board and goes pretty fast. If youre good at math, youll do fine.
I really enjoyed her lectures! She explains things in a easily understandable way, but the materials covered in class can be a little fast, but that is because of time limitations, and she replies to her emails quickly. Her tests are really straight forward and it is exactly like the preview quiz.
Very smart professor, clearly knows the material very well. Provides you with all the opportunities needed to succeed. Study guides are EXACTLY like the tests, do them and you'll do amazing. Provides multiple extra credit opportunities.
do not take this class with this professor. this is the first math class i have ever failed. she gets easily confused when lecturing. the homeworks that are assigned weekly is a lot. my average screen time per week was 25hours for this one course on just trying to do the homeworks. the tests are open answered.
The class is easy but it's mostly about how much you study on Aleks. The lectures didn't explain the concepts very clearly to me but it's easy to get help or review online. Homework nearly every week and 3 written tests plus a final. The tests are usually exactly like the study guide. If your okay with teaching yourself some this class is great.
DO NOT take this class with prof. porter. She is awful at explaining anything and spends a lot of her time being corrected by students. We had a sub in one class and I learned more from the sub in one day than I ever learned all year in the class. This is such a simple prereq but she ruins it as well as your grade. :)
She was okay, I would probably take her again because the class wasn't too hard. I liked how you can get extra credit and your grade didn't depend only on the tests. Attendance is only mandatory if you want to earn 10 extra points at the end of the semester.
Amazing teacher. If you have a question she will explain to the best of her ability until you understand. She wants you to succeed but you have to put in the work. All the test are straight from Aleks so super easy, Definitely could've got an A if I did the Aleks.
I struggled with Math 1111, but Prof. Porter got me through it. She explains everything clearly and works out each question step by step. Easy to reach outside class, wants to see her students do well. Tests are huge part of grade. Homework done on ALEKS and gives extra credit opportunities. Showing up REALLY helps. Opens assignments for review.
If you're mediocre at Math, you should be fine with Ms. Porter. Her notes are very simple and organized, and if your a visual and auditorial learner, this class is great. I studied only the material on her Study Guides (which are exactly like the tests) and I was fine! Homework takes a long time, but her study guide is crucial to passing!!
Not sure why there's many awful reviews, she was a great teacher who really cared about her students. Lectures are clear, she works out problems detailed and answers all questions. Extra-credit and homework makeup opportunities. Attendance is used as extra credit. Tests are just like ALEKS study guides. Very good prof and I'm not even good at math.
Professor Porter is an OK professor. She doesn't really explain well when lecturing...just does the problems herself while students watch. Attendance is mandatory if you want an extra 2 points added to your final grade at the end of the semester & also to somewhat understand what will be on the tests. Lots of homework on Aleks.
There is homework every week and 3 total tests plus a final. Your homework average counts for 100pts, each test is 100pts and your final is 100pts. Attendance isn't required however you get 10pts added to your final grade if you have less than 3 absences. All of the homework & tests are online through ALEKs, and it teaches you how to do it as well.
horrible... just no. save yourself the misery
spring '24 semester. If you go to class and pay attention, you'll do fine. She also offers extra credit for attending class.
Overall she is a very nice lady, but she does not teach very well. She just does the problems while students watch. There is a TON of homework weekly and tests kill your grade if you are not good at them like myself. She often makes errors while teaching. I had a 97 in my math class last year and now I might have to drop this class.
Tracy Porter is the worst math teacher you will ever have. If you are not already good at math you WILL FAIL! She does not care if you do not understand the material and is not good at answering questions. Unless you are great at math don't take her under any circumstance. Tracy Porter is awful.
This professor genuinely sets you up for success. She is a great teacher and lectures might be slightly fast-paced but she is very nice and likes when students ask questions. The study guides are identical to the test and she offers 5 extra points for not missing class. If you understand the content homework on Aleks will be a breeze.
This class was horrible! She does a terrible job at teaching. Honestly i have taught myself most of the things for this class which took a lot of my time! She's a tough grader for sure! She teaches the class as if everyone already knows how to do the problem and goes by it really fast! I seriously DO NOT recommend taking her class.
Worst math class I have ever taken. She'll cancel class then expect you to learn an entire unit in two days before the next class and expect you to be an expert. If you ask a question, she won't explain how she got her answer just that her answer is the correct answer. She also flies through the material, barely giving you time to take in info.
She rushes through the slides, and you basically just watch her go through problems the entire class. before you take this class, be prepared to spend 6+ hours on homework every week. If your mediocre at math you probably wont do well in this course. Attendance is not mandatory but 3 points added to grade if you miss less than 3 classes.
This Professor made a very simple course very difficult. Her lectures are very boring and just does the problems on the board and doesn't explain them very well. I have always been a high A student in math and I have taken other college Math classes and made A's. I had to withdraw from this class because I was going to fail. DO NOT TAKE WITH HER.
She teaches way too fast during the lectures and does not give great explanations for the topics. She assigns homework every week, she has horrible and strict grading policies AND on top of that she also does not let you use a notecard during tests unlike a majority of professors, so you have to remember everything by the time test days are here.
AMAZING prof I would take her again any day! Spends plenty time in class going over the notes. Hw weekly on Aleks is quite simple and easy to get a 100 on. Attendance= extra credit on tests. Opens up all hw and assignments to go and finish if you didn't get the chance to do that. Posts the blank notes and goes over them in class. 3 tests + final.
She is awful save yourself the trouble.
she's not that great of a teacher. i've taught myself and some other classmates better than she has. she gives out a lot of homework -- on average its like 5 questions per week of the different topics in that unit. if you have experience with deltamath, it's kinda similar. if you get one wrong you lose credit and you gotta keep going.
Professor Porter is an amazing professor. If you go to her lectures and do the ALEKS homework then you'll be successful. Her tests are in person, but very similar to the test reviews. There's no textbook needed.
She's hard to understand. The class is boring and not interactive, so if you're bad at math, RUN. Attendance isn't mandatory, but you get 5 pts for attending all classes before a test. Homework is on ALEKS, and she rarely responds to emails. If class is canceled, she just posts notes on D2L with no explanation, leaving you to figure it out yourself
Professor Porter does want her students to succeed in her class yet her class only consisted of going over notes which she wold not post the key try to not be absent and her grading was based off of ALEKS Homework was due every week, unless changed, on Sunday night If you do the HW she will bump your grade by one point at the end of the semester
horrible she makes an easy class very hard. I have taken several college math classes and made A's in all of them I had to withdrawal from this class because I was going to fail
This professor is inconsiderate and insensitive. She is very cold. She seems to not care about you understanding the content. She just goes on in her lectures and sort of demands that we understand. If you ask a question, she'll make you feel incompetent. HORRIBLE experience. Do not take this professor if you can help it.
Tracy does not care about her students or their success. Her "teaching" consists of silently working out problems at her own pace and answering questions with "you should already know this". Do not take her under any circumstances.
Man, she doesn't do a good job at explaining math at all. I'm not really that good at math and my sister in MIDDLE school can explain it way better than she can. Basically had to fight for my life and do the work on my own. I would definitely avoid her class if you can but if you do have her just be aware.
She's so sweet! Her lectures are very clear, and she gives homework once a week. You have to turn in a study guide before every exam, and it's basically the exam! She also replaces your lowest test score with your final exam grade! I would definitely take her again!
She is AMAZING!!! Especially if you're bad at math, she is so open to helping and at the end of the semester gives so many opportunities to get extra credit and boost your grade tremendously. She is kind and very clear in her explanation and is always open to any question a student may have. I would take her for every math class if I could.
I liked her a lot, she's very sweet. I did not find this class hard. Everyday, she works through examples as notes. She doesn't post completed notes, which I feel like would be helpful. It's pretty average workload, ALEKS homework and paper tests. She is available outside of class and can do virtual meetings with you if you need help from home.
She's one of the sweetest professors. The class can get a little boring, but she tries to make it manageable and engaging. All work is on ALEKS, due weekly—not too hard and helps with quizzes/tests. At the end of the semester, you can make up missed or low-scoring ALEKS work.
I love Tracy Porter! I never went to class and taught myself all the ALEKS work (there's a LOT of it), but it was helpful and the tests were just like her study guides. She is really sweet and willing to help you out if you need it.
I had to retake this course, and I absolutely loved Professor Porter. She taught the subject in a way you could understand it and went at an appropriate pace. Her study guides were very similar to the test so If you do them you should succeed in the class. There is aleks to do as well. She gives extra points on tests for showing up so go to class.
this is the type of class that you drive to without a seatbelt on in hopes that you die
