Way too much reading, that dones not matter. Doesn't answer any questions, very hot temper. Test are so hard!!!
renner is kind of unorganized, but gives study guides and lecture outlines- very helpful for test. attendance is important, 1/3 of test is lecture info. a couple writing assignments but both very easy. not a bad teacher, just do the study guides and go to class and you'll do well
Dr. Renner is a very fair grader. To get a good grade in this course all you really need to do is show up for lectures take notes and do the study guides. Of course it never hurts to read the ERs, and try to stay active in class discussions. She gives 3 multiple choice Exams and there are 2 essays.
she is very not open minded to any answers or comments given in class, she told everyone to not say bless you to anyone who snezzes in class because it bugs her. Not fun, very hard to sit in the class.
Dr. Renner does have a temper and does at certain times get angry, BUT she does her best and is genuinely helpful when needed. A backbone is definately needed if you wish to go up against her during class though.
She shouldn't teach. I had several questions she couldn't answer. She said if you join the NRA, you get a gun!!! Flaming liberal.
Absolutely terrible professor. More scatterbrained than any other professor I have ever had. Should not teach an UD PSCI class, because her knowledge is so limited. Felt like students were teaching the class half the time. Had no game plan for classes, pretty much went wherever the wind blew.
Dr. Renner is a good teacher. She has alot of knowledge about the subject and is thorough. There are a ton of articles to be read, outside of the textbook. All of the articles get overwhelming and are difficult to access at times. You will have to work very hard. There is so much information.
She seemed to merely have a masters in Political Science without any personal or communication skills. I was totally lost during her lectures and could not depend on her at all. I was very bored during her class and lost all interest in Political Science. Read the book! It's all you have!!!
She really does try but she is all over the place during her lectures. Very hard to follow. Get into good study groups in order to get through this course.
too much reading that is useless during test time. There is lecture notes, book notes, and online notes that have to much information and most of them are not on the test. Try a different teacher, its your best chances of pqassing political science.
Terrible teacher; there's no positive adjective to describe her.
Dr. Renner is very liberal and allows her views to dominate some lecture time. She has some difficulty getting to her job on time and since we're paying to learn that sometimes sticks. Her multiple choice tests were easy if you read and study the provided study guide. Overall, I felt she was a very fair professor and was willing to help.

she is the worse teacher I have ever had counting before college. Mean, rude, always late to class, boring, demanding, and everything else negative. Take with someone else.
This lady never shows up on time. She is in another world.
This class as taught by her is not hard. The study guides she gives address every question on the test. You could skip all of the classes and as long as you went through the study guide and read the e-readings, you'd do fine on the tests. And I'd say she's kinda hot.
She has no idea what she is talking about... ever! Easy class just ridiculously boring.
i honestly didnt think she was that bad of a teacher. all quizes are guide lined in the study guide but you shud attend the lectures becauase the articles aredisscused in class and some of the stuff on the study guide isnt found in the book. also there are participation/atttentance quizes on the articles.
I honestly didn't understand her most of the time. It was hard to pay attention because she's always all over the place. Just make sure you finish the study guides and read the e-reserves. She has random attendance quizzes and takes attendance for extra points when a lot of people don't show up to class. Oh and she really likes those who participat
Very unprepared for class - it looked like she was seeing her Powerpoint presentations for the first time when she gave them. Was interesting at times though, and made quizzes relevant to the lecture/reading. If you pay attention, study for the quizzes, and participate a little, you'll get an A.
She can be kind of monotone at times which can be boring, but overall she is pretty prepared for class and everything on the exams are straight from required readings, textbook, and lectures. Not a hard class to pass at all. Extra credit for those who participate a lot and although attendance isn't required, there are attendance quizzes every so of
Her quality was very poor as a professor, I questioned in the beginning if she even had the phD she claimed.Liked to tell my class about her personal problems as if to excuse her lack of preparation and eagerness of teaching. Very lame teacher i wouldnt be surprised if she got fired, on Evaluation day she tried her hardest i had seen all semester.
I liked her class. You have to participate a lot but she gives extra credit. She has attendence quizzes which are easy because all you have to do is be in class and have the E-rev reading or your book.
She's a bit boring, and a little nit picky, but if you can get past that shes not very hard. I suck in classes such as political science because of my lack of interest, but i actually pulled off a B in her class. she gives a lot of extra credit, i mean a lot. show up to class on days she decides to check attendance and u get ex cr. Good class 2 tak
Dr. Renner is brilliant. I loved her sense of humor and the issues she brought to light. If you show up for class and participate you will do well in her course. Not bad on the eyes either!
not very good at all.tried to hard to fit in but didnt...never combed her hair and had a pet peeve about laptops...she a lunatic..gave extra credit but wasnt reasonable about it...beware of her!!!
Boring class. Easy A if you go to class and answer a few questions.
She's great if you go to class, half her tests are based on lecture and she offers a lot of extra credit for participation. She also drops your lowest test grade. very reasonable teacher, I would highly recommend this course!
I took the class from 730-845 in the morning. Class was very difficult to pay attention and not fall asleep. I suggest the later class even if it ends at 5 something. Before the test, you should go over the study guides and class outlines and readings. Its easy if you know those considering she gave like a 10% curve on the later tests.
Don't take her 7:30-8:45 unless you want to have a rough rest of the day. The class is all on E-RES not the easiest to use. Tests are really hard. Be prepaired to use the book alot, take alot of notes and study a couple hours for the test. DON'T TAKE
She is a very good teacher, if you do the work you can pass this class with an A. I was dreading political science but it ended up being my favorite class in the semester. Go to class for her lecture and you have half of the test down. Her study guides are super helpful for the test. Read, do the study guide, go to lecture and it's an A.
The class wasn't a very difficult one, just tedious. If you do the E-RES readings, study guides and participate a little you will be set. She is extremely biased though. Complete liberal and she crams it down your throat. Not open minded at all
I loved her! Even though I know the majority of my class did not like her,but I loved the outlines and study guides she gave us so that we knew what to expect on the tests. It was challenging becuase of all the reading (e-res, which arent hard to read). She is always willing to help students with anything they are stuggling with.
If you do not enjoy politics, she is super easy, just read her e-res, and raise your hand oncea week. IF you are interested in poli sci, DO NOT TAKE HER. She is very biased, even to the point that she forces you to read articles that are biased, but she treats them as fact. In the end, very easy, but not credible. Really easy to debate with!
very helpful. do all the readings in the book and especially e-res. if you dont read the book at least do the study guide. test questions are based on study guide and lecture outline and e-res. just pay attention and participate and you will pass. I would recommend her for a GE requirement.
Very biased teacher!! Only presents information that supports her point of view.
... your last choice as a PSCI professor...
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! She is annoying, and sometimes doesn't make sense. She forgets what she is talking about and grades hard. Her quizzes are dumb, makes you study all this material and the day of the quiz only ask 2 questions?? Shes really boring, and you have to read a lot. I recommend you not take her class.
hard class make sure you do the study guides for your tests and articles and you will be fine.
DO NOT TAKE HER! shes horrible! not even kidding she cant teach for anything. she teaches one side of politics. her powerpoints are NEVERRR notes that are on the tests. tests are so hard. she plays favorites. she lowers your grade for missing ONE class. pretty much stay clear of this teacher, i hateeeeee her (:
This is a hard class. She is nice but her way of teaching is just not for me. She uses power points, study guides, articles( then you must write about them before say 6pm. good news there is not big essays!!
not bad at all! i was not looking forward to this class and i got an A. Its what you put into it. Just do the study guides the day before the test and fill out the powerpoints and you will be fine.
she is super hard. I have no interest in poli sci and she did not help AT ALLLL!. She has power point lectures in class and she doesn't even know how to work it... She gives us notes for class but she goes too fast for you to even put anything down. DO NOT TAKE HERR!!!
Show up take notes and it will be easy.
She was a good teacher and liked to help
She's really boring but she will get you the grade,u have5times but she drops ur lowest test grade, she gives about7pop quizzes which are not pop because she usually hints it out when u have a quiz they are easy and are based on the articles she sends u,and u have1essay,she also takes random attendance quizzes do the lectures&study guides&ull beFine
Very nice teacher who is willing to help and encourages you to come to her office hours. I had no interest in this class before, but she made me enjoy it. 5 exams and she drops your lowest score, random but easy pop quizzes. do your readings and study and youll get an A :)
She is not a good teacher. Powerpoints are useless. Not helpful at all. Very Scatterbrained. Do not take her!
This class is difficult but as long as you study you will be fine. She picks favorites based on who participates so speak up and get yourself known. If you go to her office hours she will love you. Read all the articles cause there are quizzes that can really boost your grade. Easy grader on essay. Tests are what gets you so make sure everything else is good. And do your participation logs they can really boost your grade.
Super opinionated. Expects involvement even for 100+ students. Off topic often.
She is a really good teacher when it comes to learning from her. I knew nothing of Political Science and because of her, I actually became a lot more interested and even RESEARCHED when it came to the midterm elections this year. Even though I bombed the tests, I still received a B in the class because I did my homework and participated.
Show up, do the homework, read, and you're golden. Her tests are 13 the lecture outlines, 13 is the textbook, and 13 is the homework. She says there are homework quizzes, but all you're doing is handing in the homework. There are 5 tests, she drops the lowest 1 except the final. You only have to turn in 7 homeworks for full credit. Easy A.
A very opinionated professor but is helpful when needed. It is easy to do well in this class if you show up and do the homework, she drops the lowest of the four tests, but does not drop the final. She curves all of her tests sometimes raising scores dramatically. Overall she was a good professor but is a little air headed.
OKAY, this is an honest warning to all you CSUSM students out there.. she is literately the teacher from he ll. overall. She is the worst grader and literately goes off topic to the point where you can not follow along to the actual important information. PS. NO electronics allowed. but 30 slide powerpoint for every class. you do need to print.
I'm taking her right now (spring semester) and honestly, you need to know your political terms, if you don't know any political terms, don't take it. Another warning, make sure you keep up with your readings and do the homework. She's very unclear on how she wants you to answer the homework, but just write a small paragraph for each question.
To be honest i went into it not liking her at all, and thinking her style was ridiculous. Luckily i know my stuff, and has helped me get by in her class, as long as you read and do the homework you will do fine, even if you have no knowledge of politics, if you go in with a bad and careless attitude dont expect to pass, just go with the flow
I am currently enrolled in her class. This professor randomly collects a total of 5 homework's, she has a curve on the test however her lectures don't make any sense. She judges and voices her opinion way too much in class. She calls students out loud if they are on their phones. Overall bad teaching skills do not suggest taking her!!!
She is a horrible teacher, constant lecture with power points and she goes way to fast. She is discouraging and a little rude. I hated this class. easy homework, but you have to go to pass and read.
She's really nice and will explain things if you ask. Honestly, if you get a bad grade it's 100% your fault. She gives you lecture outlines, study guides, and extra credit opportunity. My average test score is a 97% because I studied (and not for that long). She's a sweet lady. People just don't like her because she's liberal.
she covers most of material that's on the test in class lecture and the rest are from the book. she gives helpful study guides and has a power-point outline (fill in the blank type) for every lecture. there's always an assignment but she won't always collect it, it's random. Shes not the best Political Science professor but shes OK.
I took her class and many people do not like her but I did. Opinionated people do not bother me, she can be opinionated at times. What really matters is her class, her class is very easy its 5 tests she drops your lowest and there is no midterm or cumulative final. I think its an easy class and if you go to office hours she helps you out.
If you can take a different professor, do it. For the most part her class is pretty clear, however during lectures she is a wreck. She never knows what she wants to cover and there will be times you are learning 3-5 different topics all at once. But, if you miss the lectures you won't pass the tests because they are heavy with lecture questions.
She's very organized and is specific on what she expects. Not too hard of a grader. You have 5 exams in total. Out of the first three, your lowest one gets dropped. The final isn't cumulative. She curves the exams! Participation matters.
I really liked Dr. Renner! Anyone who gave her a negative rating is just upset either because they didn't study and got a C or because they disagree with her political views. I easily got a good grade. So that shouldn't be a problem for many. Take her! You learn a lot without having to read a lot. Not much homework, either. She's really sweet.
For homework there are a couple articles you are assigned to read each week, but they're only 1-2 pgs long and appear on tests- and are further explained in lectures. There are always opportunities for extra credit, and they all benefit you as well such as online practice quizzes worth e.c before the test. I loved her teaching styleclass lectures!
In Renner's classes you will get out of it what you put in. Obviously those who rated her poorly did not put in enough effort & are therefore bitter that they received a bad grade. The homework is quick & straightforward. The tests are exact same as the study guide. I spent about 23 hours a week on hwreadingstudyguide & I received A in her class
I really enjoyed having Dr. Renner as my Political Science professor. I started her class not having any interest in politics at all, but I found that while I was taking the class, it became my favorite of the semester. The tests were almost exactly the same as the study guides. Her funny and blunt personality made the class entertaining.
I was afraid to take this course because of the reviews but they are so wrong about Mrs. Renner! She's a great professor, this is an awesome class that keeps in tune with current political issues and I wish I could take it again. You'll learn a lot, become a better student, and connect well with her 1on1 because she's so open to help her students!
Made political science much easier to understand and with humor. The homework is reading articles and then summarizing and answering the questions on one page. She gives extra credit, has great office hour times, and answers emails quickly. Very easy to talk to and welcomes opposing ideas in politics. Attendance is not mandatory, but I would go!
I had low expectations, but it was not bad at all. Just go to class, do the hw, study lecture notes and studyguides (tests have Qs from all 3). Not the easiest, but very doable. She's understanding; if you need help, just ask. I had a larger class, got away with never talking in class (bonus for me!), just made sure to do well in other categories.
Professor Renner is a sweet and great professor! Her class is simple, study lecture notes for the tests and she provides study guides for the exams as well which is a huge help. If you have any sort of question just go to her office hours she is helpful and down to earth! I recommend taking her whether it is a large lecture room or a smaller class.
Her class is hard but as long as you show up as much as possible and you pay attention you can do well. Do your homework and extra credit because it can save your grade!
A lot of people seem to think this class is very difficult but the professor actually makes everything very clear if you go to class and pay attention. Anyone who struggled simply didn't put enough effort into the class.
I HATE POLITICAL SCIENCE and everything else that has to do with history, BUT Dr. Renner makes it a very bearable general ed class. She provides lectures and study guides online, and attendance is only for your benefit (not so much your grade). As long as you do the study guides, tests are easy. Assignments are simple. You should take this class !
She Is a really good teacher, she gives you study guides unlike most professors. she talks the time, and to make sure you understand the material. The on advice that I would give to new students is that you need to use the study guides and actually study, it will make a big difference in your grade.
I was hesitant to take her class due to the bad ratings, but she's a great professor. Not too much homework, not too many exams. She gives study guides which is rare, so it's definitely a plus. She's very organized, so it's easy to keep up with the schedule and what she expects. Made PSCI interesting with current events she'd discuss!
Proffesor Renner is a great teacher. She gives out fill in the blank study guides that go with the lecture and there are alot of opportunities for extra credit. This class is not easy, but if you use your study guide and look at past assignments you'll know what's on the test and they will seem much easier. I would definitely take this class again
If you ever need help or something is not making sense or do not quite understand something go to her !! She will help you. She is a nice person. If you read the articles, and also read the book you will pass her class.
She knows not everybody loves politics like she does, so she integrates funny videos and an occasional movie clip to keep you interested. Not only that, but she doesn't assign much homework or give you tons of tests and quizzes. I found her eloquent and sassy in a good way. Study and you can get an A easily. Take her class and thank me later.
Love love love her. I kind of want to get coffee with her and chat about politics. Here's why you should take her: her lectures go by quickly, there's minimal homework, she tells you exactly what will be on the test, and she doesn't assign group work or essays. She offers so much extra credit that my final grade was above 100%. Thanks, Dr. Renner!
If you go to class and participate, I guarantee you this class will go like a breeze! Print out the chapter study guides, and write out the lectures. Yes, read all the articles, and the homework because it 's going to be on the test! Her page #s were pretty off sometimes. I learned the history, and nature of just how 21st century politicians mold
If you have to take PSCI, take Dr. Renner. The coursework is not difficult, and she tells you exactly what's going to be on the tests. (Her study guides even give you the page number of the answers!) She also keeps the class interesting by discussing current events relevant to what's happening now. Debates are fun and interesting.
Professor Renner clearly has a passion for the subject she teaches. Her love for politics helps motivate less interested students. She gives wonderful study guides, which I credit for my success. This class yielded the highest final grade that I have received in my entire college career. Participate in class and you'll get a high A.
Prof. Renner has you read news articles she has chosen that are pretty current and informative, doing the homework isn't so bad since it is relevant and makes for interesting conversation material outside of class. I felt way more informed about what's going on in our country and my rights after taking this class, it was much better than I expected
The class is composed of lectures, she knows what she is talking about and provides an outline for her students to read along. Assigns articles to read as homework, but its not bad they're short and to the point and she goes over the reading. The tests are based on her outlines and the reading. It's easy A if you go to class and have the notes.
Dr. Renner is extremely organized and requires participation in class. If you are like me and don't like political science then take this class. Dr. Renner's homework is based on current events which makes the subject relatable. If you complete all homework assignments and participate in class then you will do well in this class.
Professor is highly approachable. Grading is fair and homework assignments really contribute to test and class discussions. I highly recommend attending class as she adds to the notes. Study guides provide extra support for the test as long as students put in the effort.
There's some homework but the grading is easy as long you write a substantial amount. Reading isn't all that important except for the articles she assigns that are online. Gives tremendous amount of extra credit end of the semester from her "participation logs" which are optional, basically you tell her how much you participated
Do not recommend taking this class. Lectures are long and boring. The tests are hard and the only way to pass are to write down every single information she talks about, along with completing the study guides. She is not the most helpful when you visit during her office hours. Make sure you go to class and participate when she calls on you.
She is really one-minded. Doesn't like others opinions if they do not agree with her.
Easy professor if you show up to class, pay attention, and do the weekly readings. Weekly summarys are in place of a long research paper so that's a plus. Tests are really easy if you do her study guides.
Renner will lose you in her lectures every time. Very nice lady but has a difficult time keeping you interested during her lectures. She jumps around and often gets off topic, expect her to consistently bash the Trump campaign and have a one sided view. Tests are very specific and will ask detailed questions, the tests are difficult for this reason
AVOID! Does not have good organization skills, she does not keep the class engaged and has ADHD like lectures. The teacher is very one minded as well, do not expect her tests to match the material she puts on study guides either. There will be very detailed questions on the test on topics that were barely covered! Do yourself a favor and AVOID!!!
Professor Renner is a nice lady who wants her students to do well but is very unorganized in the way she conducts her class. She has certain ways she wants students to go about things in class but does a very poor job explaining them and assumes students just know what she wants. Beware of tests, there will lots of material not covered in class :(
This class is absurd, incredible amount of hyperlinks online assigned for you to read in an extremely unorganized manner. Test questions are opinion based! You will not be able to stay engaged in class as she will bore you to the point of pain and if you are anything other than a hard core liberal you may have your views insulted as well. Yikes!
For a 100 class, the exams are too tough. Her lectures were often disorganized and she would be hypocritical, saying we should put school first (sometimes) yet answers her daughter's calls in class. She was opinionated and wasn't very open to others' opinions.
does not know how to teach. will ramble and tell stories that don't relate to the class. complains A LOT. assumes that students know everything when in reality we are there to learn from her.
Horrible professor, out of my 20 years of life this is the most unorganized person I have ever met. Her lectures are heavy, there are a plethora of online readings. For her test, you have to study the online readings, lectures, read the book, read her pdf, and do the study guide to just maybe even get a D or C. AVOID AT ALL COST...
Lectures are very long and heavy, most homework are readings due every week. I suggest writing summaries for each reading. There is a quiz every class. This class is not an easy A I believe that the lectures don't exactly aline with the textbook making it more difficult. Lecture power points are not posted online so if you miss notes good luck.
Prof Renner is not difficult but rather provides extensive content. Very detailed oriented and wants to see you put effort into your work. Honestly, she has prepared me for my higher level polysci classes. I would highly recommend her if your wanting to continue in polysci because if you were not able to manage her class it only gets harder.
Professor Renner's class is dense but very engaging. Attendance is important but if you take notes and stay caught up with the reading material this class is not that difficult. Her lectures are humorous and relevant to current events. She is easy to reach through email and office hours, practice the study guides and you will do well.
I really enjoyed Dr. Renner's class. She is very passionate about the subject and has made me more attuned to today's politics. You are required to come to class and participate, but honestly that is what I enjoyed most about the course. She facilitated a lot of great material that kept the class engaged and ready to discuss relevant topics.
Do the study guides and read the articles and the class is easy. However, the professor is disorganized and unprofessional. She is always complaining about her personal issues and how it affects her teaching. Be prepared for emails an hour before class to read articles that weren't assigned then get quizzed. Easy class, stay away from the professor
Great teacher I failed every Test and got a B.
The negative reviews up until this point seem biased. In my experience, while I may have had to deal with the fatigue-inducing near-3 hours Friday classes, the class was still engaging. Her lectures weren't disorganized, and while I would admit that some tests were tough, that was only initially-- everything got easier as we went if you read.
Dr. Renner was a really great lecturer. She did an awesome job at relating political events in history to current events. Was also very helpful answering questions after class and easy to set up meetings outside of office hours. If you go into this class with a basic understanding of government, you'll do great, if not you will learn a lot.
This class is NOT easy. Tests are extremely hard. Studying is an absolute MUST for this class or you will have an F after the first exam. This class is my first and only B in my three years of college despite having a 89% and working my butt off all semester during a pandemic. Heartbreaking.
I had to take this course in order to fulfill my GE's all of my friends who had taken her had warned me but I thought I would do "Okay" in the class due to school being easy for me, but boy was I wrong. Professor Renner is extremely confusing, disorganized, unpassionate, absent, and oblivious to just how unbearable her course is.
Dr. Renner was very nice and straight forward with her intentions for her students. The only real homework were the forums which are graded hard and are very important to your grade. She created study guides for every chapter which are very useful but time consuming. Tests are hard and you do not get a long time to do them but they are open note.
