She is a perfectionist and if you aren't, you're in for it... I'm a perfectionist and I still couldn't please her. I dropped her and took the same class with another professor and did great.

She is an extremely tough grader. She doesnt really care if you know calculus or not all she cares is that you can do the problem exactly the way she writes it. If you leave out f'(x) while you are working on the derivative, she will take off points. I would not recommend.

She teaches nothing, she emailed us saying "we must be student AND teacher." Everyone is failing the class because we can't learn calculus and her ever changing ways of writing answers. You receive little or credit on problems if you don't write them how she would. I'm good at math and love it, I get the final answers right but it doesn't matter.

This is by far the worst math professor I have had in my life. As a precursor, I am good at math. I have never gotten below an A. She will only pass you on exams if your work the exact way she wants it, which is not explained. She is confusing in lecture. I don't think anyone in my class has above a C and I am pretty sure I will have to retake

She deliberately makes it so no one can pass with higher than a C. Her grading criteria is that you write exactly how she would (down to literal script) or she deducts absurd amounts of points, regardless of your final answer. Unfortunately, she's one of those professors who want mini-copies of them but doesn'tcare whether you retain the material.

She's disorganized and her grading criteria is pathetic for a teaching standard. She's hard to follow in lectures because she contently tries to make "hip" jokes and appeal to us. The class itself SHOULD BE easy if you're comfortable with Calculus and understand the concepts but like everyone else said, she's grading for how well you can copy her.

I'm sure she's a decent person when she's not looking down on students, but from the notes she leaves on exams, she's extremely condescending and demeaning. It's like her goal is to make you feel dumber than a rock.

She shouldn't be teaching. She goes out of her way to make it clear that she doesn't care about you understanding the subject. It's backwards. She deliberately wants people to fail her class, not because the subject is difficult but because she grades like she doesn't understand the subject herself.

TERRIBLE. This "professor" instructed an online class where she required you to come in for exams, and would not accommodate me for the exam where I had military duty out of town!!!! SHE IS AWFUL AND I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND TAKING HER CLASS IF YOU LIKE YOUR SANITY.

Chapters are filled tedious amount of HW. Chapters contain tedious slide after slide of texts & notes including mandatory interactive assignments that take up a huge chunk of time & won't allow you to skip straight to the homework. No accommodation by professor for missed work. Not recommended if you work late. 11:59pm all work due.

WORST TEACHER EVER! DO NOT TAKE. i withdrew from her class first day. Her syllabus was ridiculous. you have to be a math expert if you wanna pass her class. If you didn't do the steps exactly how she said for any problem is wrong automatically no matter if your answer is correct. She wants PDF of hw sent to her in a specific way, shes terrible! noo

BACK AGAIN. to finish off she's terrible please do no take this lady you will fail and if your good in math you will barely pass i guaranteed you. I remember the first day a girl asked a simple question her exact response: " DON'T ASK ME QUESTIONS IDK!" after i heard that i was out!

Absurd, incoherent grading criteria. The grading criteria is all about "process", a process which is never explained apart from vague, shouting rants after nearly the entire class inevitably fails her tests due to this cryptic process. Tests are worth 50% of the grade. Comes across in a very abrasive, inconsiderate manner. Do not take.

Lectures consited of her going over powerpoints on problems she already did. Logic of the class was "I'll show you the right way so you can look at it while you study" creating more work for the student at home. Answers to student questions felt degrading and unhelpful causing students to stay silent. The online homework did all the real teaching.

There is nothing hard about the material or the class. Its the way she teaches and the heavy work load on Pearson. Each unit has at least 14 assignments with at least 24 questions, all of which require you to take 2 hours. Be prepared to work ahead because she spends all class going over material from the packet.

Awful Awful Awful. This lady teaches like she has a personal vendetta against her students her mission is to fail you and feel like she is the toughest professor ! By the end of the class we were six students compared to twenty-five at the start.

Prof. Sorrells is the worst College Algebra teacher ever. I would never take her class again, nor would I recommend her to anyone. If you do not do the math problems like she 'taught' you in class, you will not receive any credit (even if you got the problem right). Please do not take her class, you will end up failing or withdrawing.

For reference, I took AP Calculus AB and BC in high school, and got a 5 on both AP tests. I currently have a 46% in her class. You can get every answer right, show your work, and still receive a failing grade. Without a doubt the worst math teacher I have ever had, or even heard of. Do not take her classes, under any circumstances.

It's her way or the highway. And by that, I mean if you don't do it exactly how she wants, you will fail.

I have never had such a horrible teacher. She said on the first day of class that even if your parent dies, you still have to come to class if the funeral isn't on that day. I failed a class i never missed a single question on a test, she has a rule about "the process" and expects you to read her mind. You will fail her class. DO NOT TAKE!

I took professor Sorrells in the Fall of 2017. The material was time consuming but not at all difficult. I took the class online and followed some of the examples she gave in the presentations and id fine. My complaint about professor Sorrells is that she seemed to have lost touch with that it is like to be a student. Very uncaring and not helpful.

She will give you a zero in a heartbeat if you don't follow her 10 page outdated process on how to submit work. She makes you print out your assignments and then scan them back in to your computer, and convert to a pdf. Her stipulations are EXTREME! At the end of the day she does not care if you succeed. Just a paycheck to her.

I should have left the class after she said, "I don't want you to see my face, so I don't want to see yours" (online course). I withdrew from the class after she accused me of lying to her after I followed all instructions and failed 90% of the class on their first quiz because no one submitted it correctly (I find that hard to believe).

She was tough as everything and I ended up having to withdraw because of the way I was doing. I'd do everything exactly the way her guidelines said and still got ridiculous low grades. Her requirements for scanning in documents was ridiculously hard abd impossible to get right. She told me my paper was gray and blue. Don't take the class.

Even if you do not skip class, unless you know math like the back of your hand, you won't pass. The Professor does not give students any breaks what-so-ever. No matter the issue, late work is 0% (even a second late). You get 24hrs to complete quizzes, which by the way, are assigned on Friday 9A.M. and due Saturday 9A.M. She should not teach online.

While she might be a kind woman outside of class, in class she clearly seemed to think highly of herself as a teacher. This meant that when the class was clearly struggling as more and more people dropped out she continued to blame us, the students, for not studying when the average exam score was below a 50%. FOLLOW HER EXACTLY!!!!!!!

I am an A/B student ,but that doesnt matter in her class at all. She will fail you and not even look at your test if you do not exactly follow her instructions for honorlock . She also requires that you print out EVERY SINGLE EXAM AND SCAN IT BACK ALL IN FRAME OF THE CAMERA. If you fail to do so youre failing. Has nothing to do with calc ability.

Prof. Sorrells was a bit mean through my College Algebra experience. Ill admit, Im not very good at math, but Prof Sorrells made me want to quit the college experience entirely. Everything had to be done her way or she would deduct points, even if the answer was correct. I reached out to her on multiple occasions for help but she never responded.

I had to drop her class on the second day. She was extremely condescending and demeaning, yelled, and cursed in class. Her grading/turn in criteria is ridiculously complicated and outdated, and she VERY MUCH likes her way. I have a disability and she didn't care to accommodate, publicly calling me out for not typing fast enough several times.

Very nice person. She knows her stuff. The insane way she requires submittal of exams is total crap. I have never received below a B in any math class. How is it that I walked away basically failing? If most of your class drops because they cant figure out a way to be successfulmaybe it isnt them. Total waste of money and effort.

I HATED THIS CLASS. There was no reason FOCA should be as hard as it was. Obviously I should have looked at this site because I suffered through this class for no reason. Too many exams, horrible teaching style. If I could give her a 0 I would. If you want to cry in your car after taking each exam, by all means take this god forsaken class. >:(

Since I missed the midterm, no second chance, gave me a zero. Why require students to take an exam at at a testing center for a course that is 100% online and you never taught a thing in that course, never held a zoom class, and to reach you is virtually impossible. What are you collecting a paycheck for? Warning she doesn't care about her students

She would have us do "Checkpoints," with math we hadn't learned on them. And, when a student told her that we hadn't learned what was on the checkpoint, Prof. told the class it was "part of being a good student to learn it yourself." Like, what? And, no extensions. Ever. There are 1000 more things to say I can't fit in: DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF.

This professor is awful, If you are trying to take a summer course for any credit or an online course of hers for any reason, DO NOT. Find a different professor, she takes a long amount of time to respond to any questions you have for her and when you do finally hear back from her, she teaches you nothing and answers no questions about the course.

Do not take this professor. I am warning you. Asks questions and has due dates for things prior to the coursework required for learning them. Rude and makes your academic life in general difficult.

- Gave me a zero on an assignment to "get my attention" - If something is not done her way, you will get a zero - Gave me a 60% on an assignment where I was to introduce myself to the class and wouldn't say what I did wrong. I will say, though, the exams are fairly simple if you know the basics of what you learned in each module.

Professor Sorrells is unhelpful answering questions on petty grading. She aims to hold her students back more than hold her students accountable. Exams are fill in the blank and she takes petty points off assignments seemingly for her own entertainment. She will disappoint you when reaching out for guidance on what to work on.

I am not sure how anyone could look at Professor Sorrells reviews and willingly taker her courses. It is also concerning that she still has a job and someone hired her. I hope someone at AACC sees her ratings and does something, anything about her grading or position as a professor in general. I got through this course because of my tutor.

I believe Professor Sorrells just genuinely enjoys having control, as she told me grading is at her discretion. I had messaged her at the beginning of our semester about points deducted on INTRODUCTORY assignments, not MATH assignments, for 'not following directions" that were simply not written in the directions at all.

She told me that grading is up to the instructor. I guess that means if your work is not how she thinks it should be, whether it meets the written criteria or not, she will take off pts unapologetically. I earned an A in this course. I hope Professor Sorrells has something in her life she can take pride in,bc she should be ashamed of her teaching.

Do not take 036 with Sorrells. She lets basically no one to take tests, so even if you complete all the work, you'll fail. If you're already in her class and she won't let you test, email the math assistant dean and ask if you can transfer to a different teacher's course (they all use Hawkes). Otherwise you're just wasting your time and money.

Dealing with this professor is challenging; if the work isn't done precisely to her standards, she assigns a low participation grade and bars you from taking tests. I regret not researching her before enrolling in the class; it could have saved me $600.

She was a horrible "teacher". I had her for an online course and all she did was return all of my work but would only refer me back to online course material for help. Sorrells is the type of Professor that makes you want to quit.

Absolutely awful. She took 30% off of a checkpoint assignment grade just because I turned it in, in 3 files instead of 1. It wasn't late or anything. She would also write “interesting” next to my answers with absolutely no explanation of why. I have no personal life anymore as well, because of the amount of work she gives. She needs to be fired.

Take my difficulty rating and high grade with a grain of salt: the only reason why I did that well is because I'm very good with math. I was able to skip every async lecture and rely on only the textbook. If you struggle at all with math, be prepared for an awful, passive-aggressive woman.

This woman should not have a job, she said she couldn't open my pdf for the notes I uploaded and gave me zeros, I've never had that issue with other professors. I tried to talk to her and she told me college just isn't for some people (I'm a 4.0 student). She's a vial, unfeeling, argumentative monster that collects a paycheck for no reason.
