I was dreading this class, but her unique style of teaching (we teach each other and ask her for clarification) and there are only mini-tests with a project. All in all, a really easy class, esp. if you paid any attention in Math 220. She's pretty young, funny, and is very approachable. Great prof.
I love her! You actually have to do the reading for each class cause we discuss in pairs, but there are small tests and the info isn't that hard to understand. Lots of opportunity for points, not hard to get an A at all if you put in a little effort. She's the most awesome prof ever!
Must do the work, but its never a lot and pretty interesting. She is the most helpful professor I have ever had! 6 short tests that you barely need to study for because of the work you do prior. Go to class and make frineds with her and its pretty easy.
Very fun professor, you work in pairs each day in class so you learn more from each other and get a chance to meet everyone. Lots of small tests instead of a few big ones. Easy to get at least a B if you do the homework before each class which takes a little over an hour.
Not a very good teacher, maybe that is why she makes us teach ourselves. I did not learn as much as in my other classes, but I got a good grade.
That last person doesn't have a freakin' clue. Dr. Zinn is a wonderful teacher. She cares about her students and really wants them to do well. The only way you wouldn't learn in her class is if you are a lazy moron.
Awesome professor! Very helpful and loves to have students drop by her office. So refereshing compared to other stats courses. If you have a chance, take her classes! Stay on top of the work, and you'll have no problem.
Best teacher I have had at JMU. Awesome teaching methods and gets to know the students on a personal level. Whoever graded her down is an idiot and probably shouldn't be at this school anyway. LOVE Dr. Zinn!
pretty easy to get an a. no attendance policy, but interteaching requires your presence. she's funny and likable and far better than other 210/211 professors out there.
Not very helpful. Has us teach eachother, barely lectures. Very vague instructions. Very nice lady but made me rethink getting involved in I/O psychology. Didn't like the class overall.
Don't listen to people who rate her low, because they just don't get it. She's an excellent teacher, who teaches you how to think for yourself. The only people who complain are ones who aren't willing to work a little. Take her. She's amazing and very helpful!
Dr. Zinn is awesome! She is helpful, nice, and willing to anything to help you do well in her class. Yeah, she asks you to do a lot, but if you do the work, you'll do well. I learned a ton in her class.
Very good, pretty attractive. The other people who rated her badly probably had biases against I/O psych. Stresses the scientific method and hates psychanalysis. She's kinda crazy, but in a good way. Keeps you engaged in class. Very Highly recommended.
Dr. Zinn is a great teacher. She uses interteaching, which is where we help our classmates learn by going over our assignments together. Then she lectures on what we have questions on so we're not going over what is already obvious. Her method of teaching is helpful and a lot more productive than some people think.
An excellent person, puts all her effort to make u learn the stuffs, VERYYY understanding, she gives up everything she can to do u well, even though tests are hard its worth working for a teacher who cares about u, i never took a psyc class in my life, english is my second language but she made me consider psyc as my MAJOR seriously...
OMG! What a great Prof! I couldn't have learned more in one class! Very engaging with the class and keeps everyone awake which is a huge +! The material covered is very interesting and the tests are hard but well worth the extra work. I would highly recommend her class to anyone or any of her classes for that matter.

She's awesome! I've never remembered so much from one class. Take her, you'll be glad you did!
Whoever rated her poorly doesn't know what they're talking about, she's so good. she's interesting and funny. yeah, she's tough, but you'll learn alot. take her for sure!!!!
What a excellant teacher! I am still amazed at how much I'm actually retaining from this class. Also, Ms. Zinn has such a great sense of humor. She does a great Eric Cartman impersonation! Funny stuff! Definatly sign up for her class.
shes very funny, and a great teacher. her interteaching method is different, but it works. you definitely have to study to do well on the tests, but if you need help, she's always willing to assist. i looked forward to going to class, which i didnt expect since its basically stats.
Great Teacher! Will go over the material until majority of the class gets it! Very helpful and quick e-mail response. She's very passionate about her students and job. Enjoyed going to class
Professor Zinn was fantastic!! I hadn't actually signed up for her class, but I accidentally went to the wrong classroom on the first day. I sat through three weeks of lectures before realizing my mistake, but I ended up staying the whole semester anyway! Plus, one day she made the class these great sandwiches. Yum!!
Great teacher that really made math not so bad. I really enjoyed her class and got a B in it. i love her interteaching method, and when I become a highschool teacher, i plan on using it myself! oh and if you're a guy, take her. not only is she a really good professor, but she's really hot.
She's one of the best psychology teachers in the department. Best class I had for the semester, even though it was a math class. It's dry material, but Zinn is definitely the best person to have for it.
She is not a good teacher. Take someone else.
She's only a bad teacher for people who are lazy and not willing to work a bit (like the last person who rated Dr. Zinn). I learned more in her class than any other I've taken. I can't recommend her enough.
she was the best professor I have ever had! She made the material really interesting and was extremely helpful and most of all FUN! take the class, you will love it!
great person. ok teacher
I loved Dr. Zinn, she's awesome. She makes the material so clear and she is really helpful. She sincerely really wants her students to do well and she listens to suggestions and will try to accomodate your needs. She doesn't collect homework. The class is long but it isn't hard to pay attention and she makes you want to do well. TAKE ZINN!!!!
Dr. Zinn is extremely helpful! She loves this subject and loves her students! This class definately isn't easy but if you do the work, you can definately get an A. Huge proposal due (mine was about 20 pages) at the end of the semester, a lot of little tests and a cumulative final. A lot of work but worth it.
Shes seriously one of the best teachers ever. Interteaching is great and you actually walk away feeling like you learned something. She made stats easy, but challenging at the same time. All in all take her.
Dr. Zinn is extremely helpful. Class time is split between lecture/powerpoint and interteaching (group work) usually have small quiz each day. Tests aren't too hard and you get to correct them for partial credit. One big group project, 5 tests, 5 SPSS assignments, and some quizzes. Excellent teacher, makes this dreadful class actually worthwhile.
LOVEE HERR!!! i hated stats and barely passed it but got an A in this class. shes an amazing teacher and hilarious. i actaully enjoyed going. 5 tests so not alot of material to memorize each time. she makes sure you are completely ready for a test before you take it. definately take her!!
I'm not really a fan of the interteaching method, but Tracy is amazing! She is so willing to help anyone! It's no cake walk, you have to work but you also learn so much. I got an A, but I like stats. She held study sessions before tests that were extremely helpful. She always wanted students to be engaged. Definately take her!!
Tracy is amazing. Cute and funny, but more importantly she knows her stuff. She will give you every chance to succeed. She is extremely approachable and loves to help you out. Just don't feed her BS and she'll bend over backwards to make sure you do well. I had her for 210 and a ind study. HIGHLY RECCOMMEND HER
i love tracy!! i hated stats before taking her class (psyc 210), but she made it seem so much more interesting and relevant to psychology than i thought it was. the class isn't too hard if you do your work, and she's probably the nicest/funniest/most helpful teacher i've ever had. seriously, just do whatever you have to do to get in her class!!
She is an awesome teacher but not open minded. So do not even bother with new ideas.
Dr. Zinn is the best professor I've had thus far. Unless you hate everything about stats, you will love her class. The class requires work, but class is fun, and interteaching is an interesting way to learn. The tests arent too hard, but not easy. If you want a good class where you will actually learn, take this class! Plus she is HOT!
dr. zinn's personality is horrendous and she should be embarassed by the way she acts in class sometimes. its almost like watching a 5 year old. extremely closed-minded, once asked the class why we rated her so low and then when we made suggestions she shot down everyone. did not like her at all...blah. most people in my class agreed with me too.
Had Dr. Zinn for several classes. She is a challenging professor but BRILLIANT! I have always seen her as being very open-minded. Learned more from her than almost anyone. SHE CHANGED MY LIFE!
Awesome wayto fulfill the gen ed lab req. Thisclass challenges your beliefs about real vs. pseudoscience. She likes to create uncomfortable situations and hard conversations. Makes the class very interesting. Don't take if you are easily offended by beliefs that contradict your own. Great class, fun, easy, very informative, learned A LOT in one wk
This class is fairly straight-forward if you put in the effort. There's a prep guide due for almost each chapter, 5 tests, 4 SPSS assignments and a survey project. The tests are just like the pre-tests & the prep guides. Wish she taught more & relied less on the prep guides, but good class overall, take her!
Tracy Zinn is the best professor I have had so far, and I hate math. It doesn't hurt that she is open, honest, makes you want to do well for fear of disappointing her (at least for me) and she is beautiful inside and out! Tracy Zinn for President! :)
Tracy is by far one of the best professors you can choose for 210. If you are brilliant in stats it may be a little boring, but for those who have difficulty with math she covers the material in depth and doesn't move too quickly. She begs the class to ask questions and never wants to move ahead if someone is still confused.
She's fantastic! She's incredibly approachable and funny, and she keeps teaching until you get it. Her interteach method requires a fair amount of homework, but it's incredibly effective and I love it. Do the prep guides and pay attention and you'll do well!
Tracy was AWESOME. She's really nice, approachable, a little quirky, and really knows her subject. She is eager to help whenever possible. Her inter-teaching method is a little annoying because it requires homework almost every night but it's pretty effective and her tests were exactly like the practice tests she gave in class. TAKE HER!
You will never find a teacher that cares more about students. She wants you to learn the material so you can be successful in the field and she uses proven research to get you there. She is funny, fair, super hot and brilliant. She is the model that every professor should strive to be like. If you don't want to learn then stay away from school.
Tracy is a really cool person, but I just did not enjoy this class. I felt like there was a lot of meaningless work that chewed up hours of my life. It would be one thing if the work I was doing contributed to my understanding of the topic, but it didn't. I love I/O psychology but I far from loved this class.
Tracy is absolutely fantastic. Her method of interteaching is really helpful and made it a lot easier to understand the material. I hate math, but I loved coming to this class. Tracy is completely willing to help anyone who's struggling, and really truly cares about her students' well being. Excellent class, excellent professor.
I really don't think she was that great of a professor. The class was hard--I am definitely not a fan of her teaching method, in which case I cannot recall a time when she actually taught me something. Mostly we are expected to read the book every day, understand the material, and ask a student in class if we didn't understand something. Pointless.
Professor Zinn was okay. She has a very blunt personality, so she will easily offend people and not seem to care--rude. The material is solely your own responsibility for learning, as in we weren't taught very much in class. Hours of homework every night as well.
By no means is this an easy class, but Professor Zinn makes it incredibly rewarding. She's a GREAT professor. Funny, relatable, and more than willing to help if you have trouble. She genuinely wants her students to succeed.
Dr. Zinn is a fantastic professor! She is really good at explaining difficult topics and incredibly willing to help students. The only issue I had with her class is that she's so pretty that it's sometimes distracting.
TRACY ZINN IS THE BEST PROFESSOR AT JMU. If you have the opportunity to take her, you have to. This class is interesting because of her and she changes your perspective on the world through stats, who would have thought? She curves like crazy and you can correct all your tests. Seriously love this woman to death. Take. Tracy. You. Have. To.
Tracy was by far my favorite professor this semester. She is so clear and inspiring; I didn't mind waking up for her 8am class. She cares so much about her students and wants them to succeed. I highly recommend taking her class. Stats in itself is a tough course but she finds a way to make it interesting and relevant.
Tracy likes to and I quote "F with us" she makes the class hard on purpose and doesn't care about your grade as long as you are learning. Yeah, I did learn a lot and studied a lot but failed almost every test.
She was the hardest professor I have ever had, but she's also one of the best. She's inspired me to pursue IO psych and truly cares about her students. Do not be afraid to use the TA's and her office hours. Personally I went to class an hour early everyday to make sure I understood the information and ALWAYS went to TA hours. I got an A-
If you do all of the work (which is A LOT), you will actually come out feeling like you really did learn something and not just the typical memorizing. Don't expect an easy A, you really have to work for this class, but most definitely worth it in the end. Test corrections/lots of assignments so it balances out if you mess up one test.
She wasn't my P210 prof, but damn did that lady teach me how to stat! I was her RA for a year, and she challenged me frequently. Do yourself a favor, & take her classes. Learn as much as you can because she's the ultimate resource. I ended up leaving w enough prowess to become a professional statistician. Couldn't have done it w/o her guidance.
TRACY IS THE BEST. I'm not necessarily a fan of interteaching but she goes over topics from the homework the class before that were most difficult for people so it worked out. It's a lot of outside work but it's really worth it because I've learned more in this class than any class I've taken at JMU. Take Tracy for 212/213!
She is the best, most inspirational professor I have had at JMU. Really cares about her students. I looked forward to coming to class everyday and the 2 and a half hour class would fly by! TAKE HER
TAKE HER!! she is literally the best professor i have at at JMU! She truly cares about each and everyone of her students and is always there if you need her. Use office hours!! She is willing to take time to explain things. the class uses interteaching, but i didn't find that to be a problem because she goes over the information the next class.
Dr. Zinn is not like most professors, she is very passionate and entertaining. The best way to pass class is to read and do prep guides. She does not believe in study guides but is very helpful. HIGHLY RECOMMEND HER
Amazing professor and a crazy lady, in a good way.
This class has been a terrible experience! What should have been an interesting class instead became a course that is dominated by group projects and reading journal articles and providing responses. She has not graded any of our assignments since the first week and had not provided any updates for the class since the first week either. DO NOT TAKE
Tracy definitely teaches a hard class but, is completely fair. If you utilize her office hours and put effort into her prep guides you WILL receive the grade you deserve. She is funny and entertaining (even at 9:00 am). I learned so much about statistics and felt very accomplished on the last day of class. She's kind and truly loves to teach.
She is a good teacher and is knowledgeable about statistics. Sometimes she is a little unorganized though
Tracy lets you do test corrections on the tests which is nice but she makes you do them before you know your grade on the test, and therefore before you know which answers you got wrong. That whole system makes absolutely no sense to me.
Tracy is a lot of fun, but the class is definitely hard. You have prep guides due every class and she does this thing called inter teaching which is supposed to help students learn better, but it is a little confusing to me. Go to office hours as much as possible and do not even try to email her, she will not answer. It was a great class though!!
Tracy is the best! She is really opinionated and can be disorganized but those are my only complaints. She keeps class lively and truly cares about her students. There are a lot of assignments and tests but I found it helpful because one bad grade doesn't ruin you. She allows for corrections on her tests to earn back points.
4 tests, allows you to do corrections. Cumulative final, but part of it is take home. "prep guides" due every class (practice questions about the chapter). PG's not graded, but they check to see if you tried. easy quiz every lab (Fridays). 3 SPSS homeworks. 1 group project, write a APA paper and work on it throughout the whole semester.
Tracy and the GA get really frustrated when we arent getting the material. They get mad bc they "literally told you in class" but idk maybe they forget we arent graduate students or have our Ph.D. That being said, they get mad when we dont participate/answer out loud in class but maybe if they just were a little nicer then we wouldn't be scared to
Tracy is the best professor ever, I LOVED her class so much. Had her for Psych 210 and the material is challenging but she is super willing to help out those who don't understand. I had her class at 8am and was never sleepy during class because she makes everything interesting and she's so energetic. She will also show you pictures of her dog
I love Tracy, I've had her for 2 classes and she's great at teaching and wants to help you succeed. We have prep guides due every class that basically make you teach yourself from the textbook to answer questions and then she goes over what you struggled with, if you don't do them you won't learn much. Sometimes she will make a test take home.
Tracy is so sweet and genuinely cares about her students' success. She wants everyone to succeed and does her best to make herself available to answer questions that students have. Most of the work is done outside of class and then reviewed while in class.
I love Dr. Zinn. One of the smartest people I have ever met. I actually miss going to lecture, she creates such a fun, happy environment. By no means is this class an easy A, you do need to put in effort but Dr. Zinn will put in just as much effort to help you succeed. I have learned so much and am a better person after taking this course.
Tracy made going to a morning class worth it. Weekly prep guides to introduce material, lab, and tests which she allows corrections on for points back. I've never had a professor who cares so much for their students. This class is by no means easy, but if there's anyone you really want it's Tracy!
Took this as a one credit lab during the maymester. Easiest credit ever - one week of watching her lectures and responding to discussions or easy projects. Tracy is the best choice and so is the one credit lab.
Tracy is amazing as a human and a teacher. She really took into account our mental health and did her best to ensure we were mentally stable as well as learning the material. Tests are hard and she grades hard. Theyre just google docs she sends you and you need specific wording in order to get the question right. Very knowledgeable in her field.
PLEASE take Tracy if you can. An amazing professor who clearly cares about her students. Very understanding about late work and has lots of office hours to ask questions if you need. Beware the course load-- lots of textbook reading and homework, but if you stay on-track you'll be fine. Tracy made a demanding class bearable.
Tracy is the BEST teacher I have had!! You have to do a textbook reading and PG (reading guide) before each class, so get the book. Also, please go to class because she has great lectures that make all concepts make sense. Her class was never boring and she definitely cares about her students. Get to know her!! She loves questions so ask them.
Tracy was truly one of the best professors I have had at JMU. She cares about her students and is always willing to help you. If you go to class and take notes you will be fine!
Tracy cares about her students and is passionate about stats. She was understanding of absences and made sure I caught up. But lectures often got far off topic and I felt I would’ve learned more using class time to work on my own. None of the regular homework (prep guides) was graded and there was a lot of it which made it hard to be motivated.
Loved having Tracy this semester! She is hilarious and doesn't take attendance but go since her lectures are super useful for tests. 5 "take home" tests that are online and mainly application stuff. prep guide before every class that isn't graded and then fill out a record sheet after class. Labs are asynchronous which was SUPER nice. Take her!
Without a doubt the best professor I have ever had. She is incredibly relatable and has a very strong personal connection with her students. She knows the material in and out and is available almost 24/7 (even gives you her personal phone #). She is very funny and makes learning the material in class very fun. Would ABSOLUTELY recommend!
Tracy is the best! She cares so deeply about her students and is very understanding if life interferes with due dates/assignments. The material is not easy, but Tracy makes sure plenty of resources are available through lectures, prep guides, and videos. I am not a stats person, but I loved this class with her as the professor. Highly recommend!
I took this one week class as a one credit lab. I highly suggest taking it! There are a lot of reading assignments, but the material is super interesting. Dr. Zinn has a great personality & makes sure to keep the class engaged. This is an easy cluster 3 lab option. Take her!
Loved Tracy as my psych210 professor. She cares about her students success and loves to teach about stats. The exams are based off of what she says in lecture. Very easy to make it too them though. She is very easy to talk to as a person and professor. Very accessible and genuinely cares about the class material taught.
She is great and passionate with what she does, but her class had an okay amount of work and most of the learning i ended up doing was on my own outside of class in lecture videos she recorded from COVID since we just talk about whatever in class (politics, daily issues, etc sometimes not psych stuff)
She is a very kind person. However, this online course had an insane amount of work. I completed all the work before it was even due. When classes were completed and done not a single assignment out of the 45 was graded, it was ridiculous not knowing where I stood in the class. She did not provide any feedback nor did get back to my emails.
In person open note exams, take home prep guides (not graded but helpful), record sheets (can miss two without grade penalty), a lot of extra credit opportunities after each exam and just random simple ones, asynchronous labs every Friday that are due by every Sunday at 11:59pm, posts extra lectures online. Hard class, but great professor.
In person open note exams, take home prep guides (not graded but helpful), record sheets (can miss 2 w/o grade penalty), a lot of extra credit chances, asynchronous labs every Friday that are due by every Sunday at 11:59pm, posts extra lectures/notes online but go to class for record sheets and more understanding. Hard class, but great professor.
Tracy Zinn as a professor is AMAZING, but the course is HORRIBLE. If you aren't a math/stats person it will suck but if you're a psyc major you have to take 210 so might as well do it with Tracy. She takes time to answer everyones questions and make the concepts easier to understand and memorize. She posts alot of sources on canvas too.
Half of the exams are in person and the other half is online, open note exams. Asych labs every Friday. Prep Guides that aren't graded but helpful for your notes and exams. Final is cumulative. Post lectures and extra notes on Canvas. Bunch of mini other grades to help boost your grade if you don't do as well on exams. Extra credit is offered.
Pros: open note exams, async labs, online notes for extra help, responds to emails, grades fast, extra credit, grade boosters, no midterm, can miss 2 classes without penalty. Cons: gets irritated if no one has questions, kinda biased, spss assignments, cumulative final, kinda can get pissed off fast if no one understands the subject. Take her!!!
Now I'm sure I'm biased given that I didn't particularly like the subject, however, while the course material was rather laborious, it's not an impossible class. I recommend that if you do take her you need to do the Pg guides religiously, and meet with her for advising hours, which has helped me multiple times whenever I've felt absolutely lost.
Tracy Zinn is an amazing professor who truly cares about her students' success. While the class content can be challenging, especially for non-math/stats people, she provides great resources like recorded lectures, prep guides, and extra credit to help you succeed. unstuckstudy and other study tools have also been super helpful for me.
Dr. Zinn is amazing. She cares for her students and wants you to suceed. Prep guides due before every class but you don't turn them in (just for practice). the short answer part of exams are take home and the MC part of the exams are in person open note. I'm not good at stats but she made it all make sense! Take her!!
Dr. Zinn is wonderful I highly recommend! She really cares about her students and is accessible outside of class. There will be prep guides before each class that aren't graded but do them because they help a lot! Hand write your notes because all quizzes are open notes but they have to be physical. She's funny but can be a tad dramatic at times.
Dr. Zinn is an incredible professor. Her course on science v. pseudoscience was so interesting and informative - I learned SO much in a short period of time. She makes sure to ask students about their interests and talk about modern issues. But, beware: there is a LOT of work since it is a 1 week class. Prepare to read, write, and think critically!
