Travis isnt a professor yet. He would like to call himself that instead of Mr. Acosta even though he hasnt earned the title or any title close to it. He is strict on quizzes and spelling of terms you may have never heard before. He wont respond to your emails because he doesnt like them so good luck if youre unfortunate enough to be here.
Travis expects students to already know the information before class instead of teaching it. Study the textbook because those are what his quizzes are based on. Do not recommend! Does nothing to help his students.
Excellent professor, great at explaining complex concepts This class really got me ready for nursing school I would recommend it anyone The workload is not easy but it is fair. You have weekly quizzes so get ready to study.
This class is a very hard class but if you use all of the resources he provides you will do very well!!
This is a hard class to begin with, however Travis made it easier by providing lots of supplemental information. He truly wants you to pass the class but you have to be willing to put in work. This is definitely not a class where you can just go through the motions and expect to pass.
The course is difficult but Travis gives many recourses to help you as much as possible. He post videos on his YouTube channel about the material that will be tested in class and he also gives study guides for each post lab. He is very genuine and wants everyone to succeed!
to be very honest, you will have to work for your grade. He doesn't give you answers straight up but instead will challenge you to find a connection in the material you are learning. he has a youtube channel dedicated to his anatomy class and one of the best resources to succeed in his course. he truly cares about your education. give him a shot!!!
One of the best lab instructors Ive had. He gives students the resources to succeed in his class and wants you to understand and apply the material. All quizzes/practicals were fair game with the information given to the students through his YT lectures, study guides, and the lab manual. You do have to put in effort to do well, grades are earned.
Very difficult lab but a good professor who cares about his students. Posts lectures on YouTube that can be watched outside of lab, and the material he teaches complements what you're learning in lecture. I took him for 2 semesters, the first semester I got an A and the second semester I got a B. Definitely NOT a blow off clas, be prepared to study
Travis has an amazing knowledge over human anatomy. This class will take up some of your time & it will be a little overwhelming. If you ask Travis for help, he is very willingly to help you learn and pass the class! He posts youtube videos which are very helpful for the quizzes and practical! Taking this class def going to help me in nursing sch
Travis has been the most accommodating in one of the hardest classes I have ever taken. His youtube videos have helped me understand hard concepts by allowing me to take his lectures home, @AcostaAnatomy. I have enjoyed having Travis as my lecturer and I am definitely taking him again in the Spring!! If you actually want to learn, he is the guy!!
Best lab instructor for A&P. Smart & fun man who definitely knows what he is talking about. Gives students everything needed to succeed- lab worksheet keys, notes, EC, etc. He records his lectures that he does in class and posts them to YouTube which is a great study tool(look up "Acosta's Anatomy"). It is a hard class but he made it doable & fun.
Anatomy is hard period, but Travis makes learning fun and provides resources when studying such as his youtube channel where he posts lecture videos from class. He holds weekly quizzes that will either help or hurt your grade tremendously, so do well on them. He also holds super beneficial review sessions before every exam in an open lab, so go!
Travis is super knowledgeable on Anatomy and knows what he's teaching. This class is not easy but it is doable. He provides all the resources you need to succeed in his class and wants you to do well, you just have to be willing to put in the work. Extra credit is offered so do it!! Subscribe to Acosta's anatomy on YT and watch his videos to study!
Travis was a good lecturer and I would've preferred him over our actual professor. His YouTube videos are really helpful and give you all the info you need for his class. It's not the easiest class but defiantly manageable if you watch the videos and actually do your lab work. There was a quiz at the beginning of every class but they weren't hard.
Travis was a great lab instructor. The class is not easy, but it is doable. He offers many resources to help his students do well in this course. Travis wants his students to pass, but you need to be willing to put in the work.
HIGHLY recommend! Workload is heavy, but use EVERY resource he provides. EC is offered weekly and he's available outside of class often. He's very knowledgable and makes learning the subject enjoyable, so watch every video he posts. You learn more from him than the professor which helps you do well in the class overall so I Signed up for him again!
Travis is a great lab instructor. He expects you to really know the material but does provide many ways for you to go online and watch videos or talk to him to do well. I have taken many labs and am a senior at txst i will say this was one of the harder classes but as long as you watch all the youtube videos and study for quizzes youll be just fine
Really great teacher and his YouTube videos were not only helpful in the lab but also helped understand the lecture materials
Great teacher! Quizzes and practicals are mostly based on his videos on his youtube channel, Acosta's Anatomy. He explains difficult concepts in a way that can make it easier to understand. The videos can even help you better understand lecture material. Extra credit offered every week. He's also really nice and gets along great with students.
Anatomy is so hard but he teaches EVERYTHING you need to know for the quizzes and the practical through his videos which is incredibly helpful. He explains things really well but won't sugar coat this class for anyone. It's hard but if you do a little everyday and stay on top of it you can easily get an A. Def recommend, prepares well 4 nursing sch
I've taken Anoop &Travis they are both great but Pesthy's class is way better TAKE HER OVER PEDROZO. There is a lot of homework but its graded easily Quizzes at the start of class over video lectures from youtube.Exams are tough but if you know all the models and videos you'll easy get an A as long as u study in advance.Hard! but invest in quizlet+
I have had Anoop and Travis for lab and both are equally as good! Travis really wants you succeed in his class and gives you all the materials to do so. His youtube videos are extremely helpful for understanding the subject matters you are tested on. If you put in the work you will do well in his class! Good luck i wish he would teach lecture!
A&P has a lot of difficult content but Travis is the one you want teaching you. He has an effective and enjoyable teaching style that allows you to not only understand lab content but lecture content as well. You'll have to put in some study time for his class but it helps so much with the lecture that it's more than worth it.
The lectures Travis posts on his YouTube channel are so clear and easy to understand, even if the topic is very confusing. He really wants his students to succeed and will answer every question you have; all you have to do is ask. This lab was a lot of work, but you actually learn in this course. Take Travis Acosta! YOU WON'T REGRET IT.
Travis was really caring towards his students and had very informative lectures that helped out for the lecture course as well. I would recommend taking him if you want to get a lot of information.
Teaches the class way easier than the lecture professor does. Quiz before each lab over content gone through on his youtube channel "Acosta's Anatomy", I would print out the picture of board notes, watch his youtube videos the night before class and made 100 each time. exams over youtube videos so pretty easy and very informative.Absolutely loved!
Travis is an amazing instructor who cares a lot about his students. He has a YouTube channel called Acostas Anatomy that gives you all the info you need to know for the class. He begins every class with a quiz based on the videos and 3 practicals. He is also gives extra credit and is very engaged when teaching. Overall great instructor!
Travis Acosta is a great lab instructor. He makes videos explaining every concept and puts effort into helping his students. He goes over everything you need to know, just pay attention, ask questions, and try your best. He is always reiterating how he wants students to try their best. A&P 2 is hard, but Travis makes it much easier to understand.
A&P is not an easy subject, but Travis provides his students with an adequate amount of recourses to ensure their success. His lectures are extremely descriptive, to the point, and provide numerous visual aids. Travis's knowledge of the subject is undeniable, and he's always willing to lend a helping hand.
Travis is a gem. He provides ample resources for us to use for studying and preparing for his exams. He genuinely cares about his students and has a great presence in class. The course is difficult and he understands that, which is why he gives extra credit opportunities. He always advocates for his students and makes time for office hours. 10/10!!
Travis was the best IA I have ever had for any of my labs. He does anything to help his students succeed, for example he has a YouTube channel ( Acosta's Anatomy) in which he lectures on every topic discussed to help his students not only in his lab but also on their lecture exams as well.
A&P Lab with Travis was no joke, and you need to go in willing to study hard for lab. He gives tons of resources through YouTube videos explaining concepts and open labs before practicals. Offers extra credit and is very passionate about Anatomy! Would highly recommend, his teaching helped me understand topics in lecture!
Teaching methods are amazing, through worksheets, extra credits assignments and YouTube videos, Travis is really passionate about teaching, and makes an extra effort to help learn everyone regardless of the pace of students.
Lab was so boring we literally sat there for 3 hours doing nothing when he could've been teaching instead. Had us watch YouTube videos on our own time which were so slow and boring, they made me want to fall asleep. Super hard grader for practicals. Class is impossible to pass if you don't watch every single one of his videos at least 5 times each
Worst lab instructor. During our 3 hour lab, all we do is a quiz, look at models, and a worksheet. He doesn't teach during class, he expects you to watch all of his YouTube videos *outside of class time* as a substitute for in-class lecture. The material is very hard, but he expects you to know all of it without ever explaining anything.
I truly enjoyed the lab, it was a lot of work and a lot of studying. But overall Travis makes these amazing U-Tube videos that help you to understand everything you need to know. Make sure to put time aside for the class but besides that you will do great!
A & P is a challenging labs; however, taking it with Travis makes it exceptionally easier and doable. Travis provides all the resources you'll need to do well. He creates YouTube videos that thoroughly cover each topic and puts in his best effort to help each student. If you want to be prepared for nursing school, I highly recommend taking Travis!
It's clear Travis knows what he's lecturing about and is passionate about anatomy. He has prerecorded lecture videos that are very informational, so lab time is used to look at anatomical models and ask any questions. Practicals are mostly open-ended, so I recommend making your own Quizlets/flashcards for each topic to help memorize.
Overall Travis is a great instructor, the course work is a lot but he knows what he's talking about. The class is not impossible to pass, the effort you put in will reflect your grade. Don't be afraid to ask for help, whether it be office hours or talking to him after class he will help you. His you-tube videos are gold.
A&P is a tough class but Travis knows what he's talking about and is a great instructor. You definitely need to be ready to put in the work for this class to get the grade you want, but Travis is very easy to talk to and wants students to do well in his class. Ask questions, go to office hours, and WATCH HIS YOUTUBE VIDEOS!
A&P is definitetly a tough course but Travis provides several tools and recorded lectures on his Youtube channel that are beneficial for weekly quizzes and lab practicals. The work you put into this class WILL reflect your grade, so if you don't participate or watch the videos he provides you will not do well. The resources are there.. use them!
this is a tough subject to begin with so you need to put in the effort. unfortunately i did not take it seriously at first and my grade reflects that, but he has very in depth lectures that are essential to passing his quizzes and practicals. he is very easy to approach and has extra credit every week, DO IT! i only regret not reaching out earlier
This is a dense course, so be ready to learn and apply yourself to the subject. He makes supplemental videos and lab worksheets that provide an excellent guide to the quizzes and the practicals. He is passionate about the subject matter so if you are interested in human anatomy he is a good resource.
A&P is a very difficult course with heavy content however Travis provides videos on his youtube channel to help us understand the materials each week. He allows us to watch his videos during lab which lets us pace ourselves and ask questions. He's very passionate about what he does so ask him questions during lab to help better yourself!!
Lab helped me understand lecture, and vice versa. Many videos are provided on every subject and contain helpful and clear information. It is demanding, but it helped me learn and understand valuable information as a nursing major.
The material is extensive, but Travis breaks it down into digestible segments. He provides youtube videos which are a good reference for the quizzes and practicals and it's extremely structured which is amazing considering what i've heard from peers that have other instructors. I highly recommend taking his lab to prepare for nursing school!
A&P requires a huge commitment to studying, but Travis makes it easier to understand the new and challenging information. His YouTube videos and lab worksheets thoroughly explain concepts and contain all information needed for quizzes and practicals. He is fun in lab and is very open to any questions or helping with confusion about a certain topic.
pt two - notice how its all good reviews on here its because he asks his fav students to leave a good review for ec tell me if thats ethical - gets upset when students give him feedback on how he runs his class, ego problem if you ask me - when students complain to pesthy abt him he gets upset and thinks his students are in the wrong
The class was definitely the hardest class Ive ever taken in my life , and its a lab class (smh). Travis is a very tough grader and genuinely wants his students to fail his class. If you have to take BIO 2451, please save yourself and your mental health and take lab with Samantha.
Worst lab IA ever. Pays students to write good reviews for him. Dont take him.
This lab instructor was the absolute worst. He had favorites and doesn't care about his students, only his youtube channel. He doesn't help if you are struggling and he grades very toughly. PLEASE CHOOSE THE OTHER LAB INSTRUCTOR AND YOU WILL PASS.
I took A&P two over the summer and it was difficult with all the content that had to be leaned over a day instead of a week. Travis helped so much through the semester. His YouTube videos helped understand basic content for both lecture and lab. Going to his office hours helped tremendously for practicals. He wants his students to succeed.take him
Travis does a great job explaining things in a way that you can understand and ingest. His office hours saved me from so much confusion and helped solidify concepts I struggled with. I 100% recommend taking Travis for Bio2451 and Bio2452!! He has a youtube channel that is also super helpful.
Travis has so many resources available that help enforce the material in different ways. This class requires ALOT of studying and time dedicated in order to understand topics. No one is going to make an A just by sitting and listening to lectures in class without outside studying time. YOU MUST PUT IN THE WORK. Travis is great! ask questions!
Travis is literally so cool. This was my second time taking A&P 2 and he made it click for me. He is very relatable and recognizes that we have other things going on so he tries to help out as much as he can. He is very knowledgable and makes things easier to understand. HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM!!!!
This was my first in person lab, so it was hard for me at first, but Travis made learning the material easier and he genuinely wanted us to understand. I took this class over the summer, so it was very fast paced and difficult, but Travis is literally the only reason I passed both when I for sure thought I was gonna get a D LOL. he is AWESOME 10/10
Travis is a tough grader, but will let you know how to prepare for his exams, he is always available to discuss your grade if needed and can meet for help during his office hours. Overall good professor if you pay attention and study hard.
Very straightforward about what he expects. Has fun while teaching and interacts with students. He has many videos on YouTube which go over all the content covered in lecture which correlates to the tests and quizzes. Overall a great teacher and makes the content enjoyable.
He treats the class as a "nursing school weed out" class (he said that himself), and makes it extra difficult because "if you can't pass this class, you shouldn't be a nurse". His tests are ridiculously hard with very little other assignments to help with grades. His lab is also very confusing with structure, and still with impossible tests.
He is not a caring person even though he pretends to be during lectures. His lab are only sitting around for 3 hours and then doing hours worth of homework after. Lectures are simply the textbooks verbatim. He gets rambles on random topics, falls behind in lecture, and makes students learn the most difficult chapters on their own days prior exams.
Absolutely awful. Hard Tests. Poor lecturing. We learned everything on our own. Would have done the same in the class with or without attendance. His labs are also a waste of time. DO NOT TAKE.
He does not care for the students. Gave multiple assignments to do over the fall break. Made students watch his online videos that do no help with the course materials. This is not a class to take at TXST, go somewhere else to take it.
This was going to be a hard class, but this professor made it extra difficult. He wants students to struggle and fail. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. The best thing you can do for yourself is take Anatomy at a different university and transfer your credits. This class will make you miserable if you take it on this campus.
I studied and worked hard all semester, only to fail. Office hours were less help than the lectures. He is not very good at explaining things, especially the more complicated stuff. His labs were mostly structured to learn everything before for a quiz then sit around for three hours. I do not recommend this class.
I fought for my life with this course. Very difficult. I am normally a B student, but this was another level of hard. I think it would be better to take this course at another school and transfer credits. There was little structure, lots of stress, and the syllabus' schedule was thrown out the window within two weeks. Prepare to read a lots.
This class is very stressful. There is a difference between stress from learning lots of new information in a new subject and a professor piling so much onto you while nothing makes sense, this course is the second type of stress. There is a lot to do and Acosta does not help much with understanding. Youtube and google are how I passed this course.
He has as much enthusiasm as a wet cardboard box. Very boring. Lectures and labs were both boring and pointless. Just read the textbook chapters to pass. Tests are extra hard.
I don't know how I managed to pass, this class is hard. Anatomy is hard but Acosta does students no favors to help out. He did give us a last minute quiz the week before finals (when we had a quiz the week before) so it could drop the lowest quiz, but we had to learn all the information for the quiz via videos while on break. Not very considerate.
Lots of learning on our own because he does not finish his lectures but also does not adjust his tests for what is taught by him. He follows the textbook exactly. Professors on YouTube helped me out more than lectures did. Read the textbook if you want to know at least 25% of the stuff on the tests that are not covered well in lecture.
This class is boring and not worth my time. I would also like to note that he only does lectures at 8am which is very early for such a difficult topic with attendance being required. I would not recommend his lectures if you need someone to explain the more complex topics.
Not kind and not caring. A little condescending if you ask questions either in class or in office hours. Expects students to know everything about a chapter before he starts lecture on it, then lectures on the topic for multiple lessons, it is a little redundant.
Overall really rude and brushes ever concern off. He has a big head because so many girls find him attractive .would take him over Pedrozo but still not much better . Grade consist of 4 quizzes and 4 test grades and your lab grade . Attendance in lecture in mandatory and all he does if fill out a template of notes. Basically teaching yourself
His lectures are terrible, you can tell he knows a lot about the subject but he also has zero interest in teaching. You take away nothing from his lectures and you pretty much have to teach yourself. There is extra credit for doing the outlines that we are supposed to do in class, but you will have to do a majority of the outlines on your own.
He makes you learn chapters by yourself the day before an exam and his test questions are almost whole paragraphs. He also makes me cringe.
lectures are not helpful, does fill in the blank notes he does not explain just tells you what to write. Expects you to know what he is talking about prior to going over it. He never finished lectures and runs behind schedule and will tell you to teach yourself. The class is based on 8 assignments and he offers no buffers any circumstance.
Even though attendance is mandatory, you won't learn more than like 5 things during the entire lecture. Office hours didn't help, he would just repeat the same answer, overall just very redundant, you can tell he doesn't have a full grasp of what he's explaining all the time.
We were graded on very few assignments all semester, so very little wiggle room for mistakes or bad grades. Lectures were often incomplete and we were forced to learn the bulk of a lot of chapters on our own not to mention: tests were nearly impossible. To top it all off, the lab for this class is insanely hard. Best of luck if you take this class.
Acosta is smart but doesn't know how to teach without boring the class. I thought the chapter outlines were supposed to help with studying, but it made it much worse because the outlines are so long. That being said, I will not have a clue what will be on the test. Please take Pedrozo! Pedrozo will give you hints for his tests. And he is engaging.
I was successful in this class but only due to my own hard work. Acosta does not teach & does not listen to student feedback. He glosses over important topics & is more concerned with going over an amount of content rather than ensuring his students understand it.
Super lecture heavy class. Only grades are quizzes and tests so make sure to read the textbook. Lectures whole class with fill in the blank notes, you will most likely have to teach yourself everything. Great guy though, super funny and kind.
Professor Acosta's teaching style was engaging and interactive which helped me to understand complex concepts. His lectures were clear and and well-organized, and he was always willing to to clarify and confusion that students had. I truly enjoyed every class session and looked forward to learning from him each week.
Travis is good professor and writes guided notes to follow along in lecture. This course is suppose to be difficult and test heavy since most of us are going into the medical field ie nursing, PA, PT. I passed every exam when I read the textbook and followed the guided notes as I studied. He offers very generous extra credit just study!!!
I loved Mr. Acosta's lecture style for A&P I&II. Show up, pay attention, and study 1-2 hours three times a week you will be golden!! Exams had 3 types of questions: regular multi-choice, paragraph fill-in-the-blank, and t/f. The multiple-choice questions were easy. The t/f can be tricky and very specific. Great course overall and an A is possible.
Don't be fooled by all the good ratings. Most of those are from when he was a lab instructor. He was a great lab instructor but his lectures not so much. He didn't do that bad as a lecturer because he gave lots of extra credit, but the lectures were still quite boring and lots of him reading word for word from the outlines. He's not terrible though
DO NOT TAKE ACOSTA. I am sorry, but this was the worst class I think I have ever taken at TXST. We were always behind from lecture schedule, so in turn Acosta would drop 10 pages of slides onto you the day before the test. Not to mention he would not teach but would just read off the slides. Be ready to teach yourself, and be prepared to be annoyed
DO NOT TAKE ACOSTA, dont be fooled by reviews, he asked students to make these reviews. ive taken him for 2 semesters & it was the same unorganized, lecture heavy, difficult courses. YOU WILL NEED TO TEACH EVERYTHING YOURSELF AT HOME. he does not care about you, your grade, or you trying to get into nursing or med school. office hours are no help.
Very clear guidelines for the class. If you are struggling reach out early on for advice and review quizzes/ tests to get familiar with the style of questions. Everything you need is outlined in the notes and the textbook adds context. Professor Acosta is very helpful and wants everyone to succeed, you just have to be willing to put in the work.
This class was very well taught, and the professor was available when needed. The professor was easy to reach and helpful in making you pass the class.
This class may be difficult but if you have a professor like Travis he makes it easier to understand. The Professor would keep the class engaged and covered the material thoroughly.
Upon taking this course again somewhere else I can confidently encourage you to take another professor or even take this course somewhere else. He makes the course harder than it needs to be, and has even admitted so himself. His exams are worded difficulty intended to make you do poorly and the outlines contain much more material than necessary.
Professor Acosta provides all the information required to succeed in his class, if the student is willing to put forth the work and the effort. His lectures are clear and precise and provides extra incentives for those who attend and pay attention to his lectures. Easy and enjoyable to communicate with.
Travis is lets just say not the greatest teacher at all. He is a very rude person and says that he is available to meet outside of class but never actually wants to help. He is very aggressive with his students and gets rude. Overall he is not a great teacher. He also tells students that they can get extra credit when they write a good review!
Bro doesn't narrow down information to help you prepare for the test.
Horrible teacher. You'll get a lab grade and he will make the IA regrade it for the worse. Don't take him.
Acosta was a great professor. This course is challenging no matter who you take. There are four exams and a final. If you do better on the final than one of your exams, it will get replaced. There are three lab practicals, mostly identifying. If you need help, go talk to him. He will help you out. Be ready to study hard, and you should be ok.
Just one line for him, He's a disaster!!!! I took his class and ended up getting an F. Get ready to read yourself and prepare yourself in advance for trauma if you are taking this class. Anatomy itself is a tough class, and guess what he makes it tougher :(
I am not a "naturally smart" student, but I work my butt off. I spent weeks studying 20+ hours from the start of the semester just to end up with a D. Exams cover every but of content covered or not. He is not a good teacher (fill in the blank notes) so the bulk of this is you on your own. However there is some EC available.
Challenging course but a good grade is achievable. Acosta is a great professor, who is willing to help you during office hours. I struggled at first but I went to office hours & created diagrams from notes. Acosta gave me good feedback on studying. Was able to improve with each test. Extra credits help you too. Planning to take him for A&P II!
This might be the worst professor you'll ever have at Texas state. It's not that he's the most difficult, he is the most frustrating professor ever. He uses outlines only for notes and when he fills them in half the class can't read what he puts. He likes to talk about football and his ex, then make us watch videos because he ran out of time.
I cannot stress enough to not take Professor Acosta. His “notes” are just fill in the blanks and most of the times you can't read what he says. His labs that go with the lecture are pointless as you will just look at models the whole time then be expected to know all of it. Not to mention he told his class to only write good reviews about him!
Acosta keeps things straightforward and provides all the materials you need to succeed in the course. While learning is more independent, it's a good setup for students who are self-motivated and want to succeed. If you stay on top of the provided book readings, you'll do well. You have to put in the work to get the grade you want.
Don't get me wrong, he is the “better” professor out of the two at Texas State, but this does NOT mean he is good. We only got through 12 out of the 15 chapters we were meant to get through, because he wasted so much time. I did as well as I did because I worked hard to teach myself, and I will be taking him again because I have to.
All I'll say he's a very mean person, purposely wants you to fail the whole lecture is just filling in blanks on the notes and if you have a 69.999 he will not round up
Beware of this professor. He doesn't teach what well what's so ever. Your teaching yourself based on the book. Even the book doesn't help with how difficult his test are. Don't even try to ask to round your grade, his answers is NO. Be ready to reach your self and don't even brother going to his office for help. He expects you to know everything.
Professor Acosta is rude and a total time waster. His fill-in-the-blank notes are illegible and unhelpful. I studied 15+ hours weekly and barely scraped a C. Office hours are pointless—he talks down to students instead of helping. Avoid if you value your time, effort, and GPA. Not once did we finish everything in class, but still got tested on it.
Acosta does give us outlines but it is VITAL to read the textbook to fully understand the outline and grasp the concepts covered in class. An outline is a FRAMEWORK or summary of the material—it is not a detailed description—and while the teacher tries his best to fill in those gaps, this is unfortunately where he falls short.
Extremely rude and unhelpful in office hours after claiming to be. Doesn't ever finish any chapters and still tests on them. Cares more about setting up his camera in class than finishing material. He reads off blanks instead of actually teaching. Cares more about diagrams that we aren't tested on than the vital information. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
The only way you'll pass this class is if you spend 20+ hours a week reading and teaching yourself. He is not a teacher, he is someone you pay to waste your time. Same for the lab, you look at models and don't actually get taught a thing. This is the most pathetic teacher I've had. This entire course was passed because of myself.
Acosta is rude and impatient. Hardly teaches in class and expects the lab TAs to teach the content he is responsible for. Talks about his ex, cheerleaders, football at least every class. Waste time in so many ways, we never finished the material we were tested over. If you arent prepared to work your butt off by teaching yourself you will not pass.
Worst professor I've ever had. Trust me take the class somewhere else
Acosta is the worst teacher ever. He makes it even more confusing than it already is. He does fill in the blank without bothering to teach any of the info. Totally unprofessional
During this class It felt like a waste of time even going. He would only fill in blanks and not explain any of the information. The labs have absolutely no structure. The only reason I did so good in this class is because I taught myself completely and used other resources. I hope he can do better moving forward...
Acosta wasted time every class talking about unrelated stuff and didn't end up covering all the material we were supposed to. He didn't bother to actually teach the info and just assumed we already know it so I had to spend A TON of time outside studying. DO NOT RECOMMEND
This is a difficult subject so be prepared, but it is not impossible if you put in the work required. Acosta offers extra credit for every test, and he provided us with structured notes. Take Acosta if you have the opportunity because he is very helpful, and does his best to cover all of the content provided!
This class was seriously hard and Acosta made so much worse. Avoid avoid avoid
Overall, I taught myself everything. He does fill in the blank notes that honestly taught me nothing. Be prepared to study A LOT outside of class to do well on tests. This class is based almost fully off of 5 exams (no hw or quizzes) so you have to do well on every exam or YOU WILL FAIL. We only covered 12 out of 15 chapters we were supposed to
I took Predrozo for A&P1 but didn't love him so I decided to give Acosta a shot for A&P2, biggest mistake ever. Fill in the blank notes from the textbook but doesn't elaborate. Tests are lengthy and wordy and were the demise of my grade. He cares more about making the class challenging rather than us actually learning. Take Pedrozo if you can.
I read the chapters to try and teach myself what I needed more practice on. I did the practice questions in the book as well. Those did absolutely nothing for me. If your grade is a 69 it will be staying like that.
I hated this class. It ate up all my time and Acosta was not helpful at all. He made the class as hard as possible. If you value your time, GPA, and money take the class somewhere else.
cried so much because of this class. Top hats never worked and were a significant part of the grade. The way he teaches doesn't help much so the textbook will be your best friend.
Do not recommend at all. There aren't other assignments that can help boost up your grade only exams and Top hat questions. We never even finished some of the chapters/lectures but were still tested on them. The professor was not helpful at all. I had to retake it at ACC and the material is not nearly as difficult as professor acosta made it to be.
People complain about his outlines, but I find his outlines to be extremely helpful since most professors leave you to take notes alone. This class takes effort and studying, but overall his tests are solely what he provides on his notes outlines. This class is graded off very few things, but if you go to office hours and study, you will be fine
Professor Acosta's class is challenging, but using resources like unstuckstudy and the textbook can help you succeed. Attend lectures and stay engaged to get the most out of the material.
Not a fan. Don't take
Essentially have to teach yourself. He's so far behind. If you care about grades, take someone else.
He is very pretentious and provides almost no help during office hours. He gets distracted and goes on tangents a LOT in lecture, so much so that by the end of the semester he had to cut two whole chapters in the textbook because he could not effectively manage lecture time. Class notes are extra credit for tests so definitely attend class and READ
As someone who didn't hate or love this professor, and as someone who has taken him for both anatomy 1&2 I would just say that Acosta is fine, but his time management is literally insane. This spring semester we had all exams except 1 after spring break. That is about 7 exams with lab and lecture. He gets behind and it becomes your problem
Horrible professor claims to help but only to benefit him drops test questions to help us but only because if he didn't average our grades to 70 his average would be below a 60 He goes very off topic in class and cannot manage time have to teach yourself doesn't have a good lecture style Take Pedrozo if you want a good grade and helpful officehours
This course is difficult but it is made more so by this teachers lack of time management and empathy. Even if you are able to maintain a good grade in this course, the chances of it being because of his teaching are slim. Most of material had to be self taught + when students faced last minute emergencies he was not understanding whatsoever.
As someone who took him for both A&P1+2, I have mixed feelings. His outlines are helpful, but I taught myself everything! His time management is TERRIBLE. He got so off track, we had 3 out of 4 of our exams ALL after spring break. I missed the first exam for a family event, and he refused to let me make the exam up, so I had to catchup all semester
I've taken both Pedrozo and Acosta, and Acosta is better. The class is still hard, and you still need to focus on reading the textbook, but at least Acosta has more structure when it comes to his lectures. You get extra credit on your exams for attending and filling out lecture guidelines that he sends out; you can also use them to study.
He's not as bad as everyone says. His outlines help, but he spends a lot of time labeling the pictures rather than teaching the material. He gives extra credit and curves which definitely helps. His labs were ahead of lecture because he would fall behind which made things very confusing. He will probably get better with more experience teaching.
His time management is horrible and we ended up not even covering two of the body systems. The lab was way ahead, so we had to learn two things at once instead of the lab building our understanding on what we learned in lecture. You will definitely have to teach yourself most things because lecture doesn't help. Grade is based on very few things.
The outlines are a good +2-6 pts on each exams which he fills out in lecture but that's also essentially how he "teaches". You'll really have to teach yourself. Do not procrastinate studying for each exam unless u truly work best under pressure. There's sm in depth material covered in each ch, exams are like 4 chapters, abt 50 pgs worth of notes.
Tbh, Acousta isn't bad. I took A&P 1 and 2 with him. He's chill and offers extra credit, but his time management needs work — we were super behind in A&P 2.
This class is very difficult and time consuming, but that is how this class is supposed to be.Acosta tried his best to accommodate for students, however I do believe he could have done it with a better schedule. The lecture was mostly behind and went fast paced, same for lab. He explain better 1-1, but is still tricky.
Honestly one of the worst professors I've taken so far. He was always behind on lecture. We had to learn most of a chapter on our own, and we even skipped a whole chapter of content. He did not know the material at all. He literally told us he would look up an answer for next class. Avoid if possible, be wary if you absolutely have to take him
Acosta was WAY behind and lab was ahead. Makes it hard to do well and I had to teach myself everything. You're graded on lab and a few exams and that's it. He's at the top of worst teachers of all time list.
i dont get why he's allowed to teach. hello time management? we skipped a ton of info and so behind. its such a hard class and it made it so much harder.
Take someone else, better yet somewhere else
Acosta will have you constantly questioning your sanity throughout the course through how unorganized, unhelpful, and arrogant he is. This class being difficult is an understatement, and he showed time and time again how little he cares for his students to succeed. Please take this class somewhere else for the sake of your time and well-being.
Can say with 100% certainty he's the worst prof I've ever had. I spent so much time teaching myself and was *****LUCKY**** to get an A. He is a mess with a huge ego. I took him for AP1 & 2. He was wasted so much time and we were so behind we skipped a ton of information. In what world is the lab ahead of the lecture? TA's were fine
This man is the worst professor I have ever had. I went to his office hours, and he never knew the answers to my questions. Even in lecture he would say "Uh" "Um" anytime someone had a question. His exams are so difficult for no reason, and he leans on the outline as if he even knows how to teach the material. NO DONT TAKE
I regret taking this class with Acosta so much. It's not fair that we paid a lot of money for bad quality. He doesn't know how to teach, got behind so we had to skip chapters, was condescending and downright rude and not helpful during office hours.
Took pedrozo for A&P1 and Acosta for A&PII. They are both terrible. Only 2 people teach this class and honestly just take elsewhere. Isn't worth it taking it at Texas State
If you struggle with your mental health, the stress of this class could take you to a dark place. At one point we had 4 exams within one week over numerous chapters. He made multiple changes to the syllabus throughout the year and took material out of tests just days before. Incredibly stressful course when it didn't need to be. Very disappointed.
I've taken his A&P 1+2 classes. Overall not the worst professor. I went to a good amount of office hours and he's helpful but seems like he gets annoyed when asked "easy" questions. I definitely learned from Youtube/other sources for it all the stick. Study for both lecture/lab and try to understand it because it will bite you if you don't.
You have to spend A LOT of time on the content outside of class. His time management is horrible
Genuinely what the flip
I don't know what to say here
Currently taking this BIO 2451 class, and all I can say is very heavy test and lecture is like fill in the blank that the professor read of the slide. Also sometime the professor's hand writing can be very bad that I could not read. Taking this class make me rethink about my life choice.
Bad teacher. don't recommend
only takes attendance, exams and lab grade for class average. the class notes are fill in the blanks that can be turned in for extra credit but you will not learn anything unless you read and do your own research on certain topics. extremely time-consuming and probably the worst class I have had to take.
So time consuming as you would expect anatomy to be, however the professor just makes this worse with his sub par time management. You must dedicate hours and hours outside of lecture. If you can, take this class elsewhere. I do appreciate the extra credit.
Extremely poor lecture. I stopped paying attention in lecture and just started studying the textbook/doing work for other classes, and my grade actually got better. They ought to give you a teaching license if you pass this class, because the only way you're passing is if you teach yourself everything. Better than Pedrozo, at the very least.
Never in my four years of university have I felt hopeless in a class than this one. Every time I have to study for this I feel the urge to write a rmp review. This class is lecture heavy, but the lectures are rushed and he gives you an unorganized lecture outline with blanks to fill in. also forces u to watch his yt channel
Choosing between him and Pedrozo is like trying to pick the lesser of the two evils. All I have to say is good luck. If you actually do the extra credit and are willing to put in a lot of hours outside of class (between lecture and lab it's like having two separate classes b/c they don't line up), you can still get a good grade but it's difficult
If you MUST take A&P at txst, then Acosta is the way to go. Not because he's a good professor, but because he offers extra credit on his tests. That is the ONLY good thing I have to say about his class. Be prepped to cry, teach yourself, and study everyday. He gets behind, and will make you teach yourself what's missed. Only grades are 4 HARD Tests
everyday i hoped someone would crash into me to take me out of my misery of attending this class.
If you want to crash and burn then take acosta. Not that pedrozo is any better. acosta is horrible and will suck all the joy out of life
It's a hard course, but he doesn't help. The exams are straight from his outlines (which are basically the whole textbook, so yk), but he does offer extra credit for each outline. The only assignments besides exams are TopHat questions in class. THE LAB SUCKS! Tbh it just depends on how you learn, enjoy reading-absorb details, you'll be fine.
DO NOT TAKE HIM! absolutely terrible. has no assignments so you have to read the whole book in order to learn because he doesn't teach, he reads his outlines and does fill in the blank… something that could be done at home. handwriting is HORRIBLE, would have to ask to spell out what he wrote and sometimes he's couldn't even read it.
Please choose peace if you can and not take this course. As an incoming straight-A student, I have no idea how I passed. It was so difficult in the lab and lecture. Its test heavy so your test grades matter. Please dont put off studying for his tests. They cover a lot of material and require lots of time to study for them. Goodluck :').
A&P is easily the hardest class I've taken, and you really have to grind because nothing is handed to you. Professor Acosta isn't amazing, but he knows his stuff and gives extra credit, which helps. The lab is honestly brutal with weekly quizzes and hard practicals, but if you stay consistent and study, you can make it through this weed-out class!
Any good reviews are fake. Acosta is awful. The stress from this class made my hair fall out
Acosta is nothing short of a nightmare. He's no help at all in this class. I hope you like teaching yourself for the entire semester
Don't take A&P at Texas State. Acosta may be barely better than pedrozo but he's still a complete joke. You're graded on a few exams and lab and that's it. The exams are really hard. 1 bad grade and it's over. The lab is just as bad.
Prepare to lose your mental well being and sacrifice your will to live for this class. All the good reviews sound like acosta wrote them and they're clearly false. Major grades are exams all based off of the textbook/random sections he calls out in class, tophat, and the lab. Read the textbook and do not procrastinate it will come back to bite you.
Anatomy is already extremely difficult, and Acosta somehow makes it ten times worse.his materials were impossible to understand and gave me almost no help at all, i had to study textbook. The exams are insanely difficult, the labs are awful too. This class destroyed my GPA and mental health. Do yourself a favor and take this class anywhere else.
sometime I wish people riding scooter on campus run into me to take me out of this terrible A&P class. Unfortunately I have no choice to take A&P2 with him again and suffer for another semester. If you have a chance please take A&P somewhere else. it will save your mental health and tear that you would cry every night about this class.
he was previously arrested for assult- also a terrible teacher. this class was made 10x harder than it should have. obvi a&p isn't an easy topic but this professor ego is so high and when asked for tips he just says “study more” like no duh i didn't think of that. honestly i would take with anyone else. atleast we got extra credit for notes on test
If you stick to his lecture outlines you will pass lecture tests with A's but keep in mind you have to put hours of study time in. His lab is another story it is organized so poorly with some models missing pieces and keys not even being provided. Be prepared to spend your semester at the library if you want an A.
If you expect an A don't expect to have a life at all. I only passed with an A due to spending all my free time at the library studying for his class and micro. Never wanted to cry more and get hit by a car while on my to class more in my life. Legit got a stress induced bald spot from this class and never saw friends that's all I have to say.
Don't take A&P at Texas State; consider a community college instead. I studied heavily as a full-time athlete with Pedrozo and Acosta, and still barely passed or failed exams. They made it unnecessarily hard, and office hours were unhelpful. Pedrozo at least offered homework. I retook it at a community college, studied a few days, and earned an A.
Not a good professor for learning. All he does is fill his lecture outlines in the lectures. He knows a lot but isn't much a good teacher. Just read the chapter outline and quiz yourself with chatgpt, you'd be fine. NOT A GOOD PROFESSOR
Acosta's ego is bigger than the state of texas. Get ready to teach yourself and cry every day. Fyi he's been arrested for asault
