Very easy class, Professor is very chill and relaxed. Tests are the exact same as practice quizzes online, gives barely to no homework at all. Would take again , simple laidback professor.
He makes econ very interesting and relevant. He kept me awake during a morning econ class, which is saying something. He also adequately prepares you for the exams with the homework and practice tests. He seems to really care about how you are doing in the course. He spent a lot of time after class helping me with the homework. Take him!
The class was stressful because it was a 5 week course, but I learned a lot . The professor made the difficult material from the book really clear. I am going to take micro with him if he teaches it.
His tests are a mixture of multiple choice and essay questions. He prepares you really well for the exams and lets you know what essay topics he is going to ask you. There are graded group quizzes before every lecture and group work in class that really helps you understand the material. Getting an A in this is class is totally doable
Best Econ professor at GCC. He deeply cares for all his students and does everything in his power to help. His fun and upbeat lectures make the subject beyond bearable! Class consists of 4 tests(lets you use a cheat sheet) two papers, online homework and in class quizzes (all super easy). Just pay attention in class and do all the assignments and without a doubt you will get a A or B!
Best Econ prof at Gcc!
I took the Hybrid class. Mr. Travis knows the subject very well. During this short semester he managed our time wisely. He is a great teacher.
I really enjoyed his class. He makes Econ fun. I would recommend
He really teaches very well. He tries his best to make the class fun while teaching. I really enjoyed his class.
Throughout my education, I have not met a prof. like Mr. Ames who genuinely cares about his student's success. His sense of humor, liveliness, and easy going personality makes you look forward to attending a 7 am Economics class. A few tests, quizzes, and 1-2 short writing assignments all fairly easy take hin you won't regret it.
Prof Ames is honestly the best. Taking him now and I absolutely love the class. He makes the class & material so interesting. He def gives you everything you need to prepare for all exams. There's about 4 exams, a couple writing assignments, online hw assignments/quizzes, and in class team quizzes. Seems like a lot but I promise you it's manageable
Prof. Ames is a great teacher. He makes everything that you need to study clear. He knows the subjects well. In addition, he is humor.
I absolutely love this teacher. He truly cares about you and whether you understand the material or not. I have this class at 7 and he makes it fun to wake up and go. He does a lot of group activities. His tests include writing portion but it is completely doable and not hard, since he gives the questions before hand. Great class and Professor!!
Travis Ames is the best teacher I have ever had at GCC! He cares so much about his students and wants everyone to succeed in his class. He is always willing to help you with any questions you have. He is very passionate about Econ which makes the time go by fast. His tests are a little difficult but you get to use a 3x5 note card front and back!
Ames is the most caring teacher you will ever have. This guy spent his weekends holding study sessions before tests to help prepare us. He even gave me his number so that I could go over the material with him by phone on a Sunday befor a test. Nuff said!
He prepares you well for the tests with exercises completed in class. He held study sessions on Fridays for a couple hours to help prepare you for tests, which are super helpful! Lets u use a 3x5 note card.
Ames is the best professor I have ever experienced at GCC. I am a polisci major, so I just took econ for the units but he always kept me awake during class by making it interesting and fun. There are a few tests with essay and multiple choice questions, which are not too difficult with a 3x5 cheat sheet. Take him you won't regret it!
I love this professor! He loves to teach and it shows. There are 4 tests, easy online quizzes for each chapter, 2 papers, and Connect homework. He also has online lecture videos to help you understand the material. Best teacher at GCC!
So easy
Tests were hard
Okay. He's very passionate about econ and teaching but the amount of hw he gives every week is just not necessary. Tons of reading, tons of videos and hw. The videos (which are called IVATS) takes like 10 hours. I'm not even in his online class. He's explains well but if you're taking this for a GE, just don't. Econ majors, you will learn a lot.
He is the most enthusiastic professor on the campus. If you are majoring in ECON, you should definitely take him. He explains very well and is very approachable. He is definitely the most caring professor on campus. He has all the materials you need for the test on canvas. He does have a heavy workload so be prepared to study.
Class is easy to pass as long as you do the easy assignments in Canvas. He has study sessions outside of class to help prepare you for the exams. He also makes the material interesting and easy to understand in class.
Lets u use a 3x5 during the tests. He provides a practice test and lets you know what the essay questions will be and curves. As long as you understand the concepts you will pass the exams and probably get a B. I had to work for an A, but I heard he is easier than other econ teachers. He explains the material well and is super enthusiastic!
Hes a really good professor. He explains everything you need and he is super funny. The only aspect I dont like about it is that he gives so much homework. Literally for each chapter you have to do 2 quizzes, 2 homeworks, you must take notes and take a picture of them, discussion... I consider it is excessive, but hes definitely a good guy!
Professor Ames makes the material super easy to understand. I failed ECON 102 with another teacher, but taking it with Ames is a breeze. He sets you up to do well in the class. I would say that its an easy B, but it takes work to get an A. I ended up with a B. He holds srudy sessions outside of class which really help. All in all solid teacher.
Very good professor only issue is there is a lot of online homework and the lectures are all online with multiple quizzes for each chapter, but does explain the material in class and tells you pretty much what the tests are going to have.
For a 3 unit class, there is way too much homework. Reading quiz, lecture videos + quiz, 2 assignments, and homework on Connect for each chapter. The lecture videos take 1-2 hours on 2x speed usually. 4 tests total and 2 essays total. He is a funny dude and probably ur best option for microeconomics, but its a lot of work if you want an A.
The online homework is easy and I get close to 100% on all of it except for the iRATs. The online lecture videos made the difficult concepts easy to understand. I completed the practice tests and rewatched the lecture videos to prepare for the exams and always got an A. His weekend study sessions were super helpful and he is really enthusiastic.
Professor Ames is a great professor. He really cares about students and he does everything to make sure that students have understood the material. He gives a lot of good examples. If you read the textbook and follow the outline you will do good. And be ready because there are lots of homework. However, the homework is to prepare you for the tests.
The online work was overwhelming. He seemed cool but he wasent really pleasant in actuality.
I don't understand how this professor has his class full. He seems nice but he is not. Test are nothing like you do in class. He gives study session which are useless because nothing would be on the test. HW amount was insane. Run! Don't take him. You are welcome!
Professor Ames is the best professor I've ever had at GCC. His teaching method is great. You won't fall asleep in his class, he makes class fun and interesting. The material though, is a little tough so make sure to put enough time for this class.
Exams arent similar as the practice test nor the ivat/Irat. You can study as much as you want but exams are the opposite of the work, reading, study session he provides. He gives you a lot of hw, and in class he doesnt teach as much. He goes off subject and sometimes wont answer your question. If you are a full time student dont take him.
To say Travis Ames is difficult is to be lazy. He gives you a lot of work, but that work helps buffer your grade. You just have to do it, and do it right. All this work really prepares you for his tests that are rather straightforward. It's a lot, but he knows his stuff and is willing to help. Also, he's really funny. JUST DO YOUR WORK!
I took both macro and micro with professor Ames. He goes above and beyond to help his students, and truly wants everyone to succeed. His teaching style is really unique and will keep you awake in class. He makes the material applicable to real life situations and business problems. His classes helped prepare me for courses when I got to UCLA.
Don't take this guy. Gives too much homework for a three-unit class and way too many things to study for an exam, such as practice tests, chapter reading quizzes, and iVAT practice problems, so it's not clear what to actually study. He also didn't give us a curve on the 2nd exam even though he said he curves the 2nd and 4th exam on the first day.
I took him for Econ 102 RUN and dont even think twice. He acts like a helpful prof. But his really not. Tests are nothing like you study in class/ivats. And god forbid if you have a question and you email him, good luck with getting a response!
I really dont understand how this professor gets his class full. He literally plays stupid songs in class to make people understand the subject but instead he confuses people more and constantly jumps off topic. He doesnt respond to emails at all and tests are completely different than what he teaches on ivats and in class
If you are a business major and interested in learning Econ, do whatever you can to get into Professor Ames class. He is an incredibly talented teacher, I think the best I have had.
Wow what a horrible professor! I had taken Econ 102 with another professor and had an amazing experience. This class is not like any class I have taken at GCC. We met twice a week for a few hours and it was nothing but a waste of time as we learned nothing! We also had a ridiculous amount of homework. If you really hate yourself take this class!
Two words... HORRIBLE PROFESSOR
Prof Ames makes you work hard for his class. Tests are very hard and a lot of questions are not from Ivats and quizzes so you have to be either genius or read the whole book. It seems like an online class because everything you learn is from canvas. If you want to take his class make sure you can put enough effort and time to get an A.
Professor Ames is very straight forward in regards to the exams. The exams are a combo of written questions and multiple choice. He lets you know ahead of time exactly what the written questions will be and allows a cheat sheet. I'd say it's an easy B if you complete all the assignments. The outside study sessions are super helpful for the tests.
I took 101 and 102 with Ames and I can say that he really cares about his students and made sure that we understood the material. He held study sessions outside of class before tests to make sure that we were prepared for his exams. I wish every teacher in the business program was like him! Just do the easy homework and you will definitely pass.
Prof Ames is the best. He makes the class really fun and interesting, and he really cares about his students. He lets you use a notecard for the tests and he prepares you really well for the exams. His tests are challenging, but there really aren't any curve balls on them. If you do the homework and participate in class you should at least get a B.
He is an amazing professor. His lectures are the best. The class overall is very hard, but he makes the class easy and clear. He gives also a practice test before the actual test, so you can have an overall picture what to expect. Great and caring professor with amazing lectures.
Ames is a great professor. I took him for 101 & 102. The concepts are common sense. Learn the language and an A is totally doable.
Professor Ames is the best professor at GCC. Yes, his iVATS take a while, but he gives you a week to do them and if you work on it a little each day it does not seem like much. Everyone saying its too much is obviously waiting until the last minute to do it. He is hilarious and amazing. He teaches very well and want the best for his students.
TAKE HIM! He does everything in his power to help his students pass and get As. He takes a lot of personal time out of his day to assist his students. Before every test he has a study session where he legit tells you exactly what will be on the test. He is hilarious and adorable.
He is a great teacher but his tests are about 70% of your entire grade. Most of the class consists of IVATs which is done at home and all we do in class is talk about them. He gives ALOT of extra credit, 45pts was given to us throughout the year. Everything is manageable but be ready to study hard!
One of the best instructors I've had at GCC. This class consisted mostly of watching lectures and writing notes. It is A LOT of work but it's not difficult. I plan to take ECON 101 with Mr. Ames.
I loved the format of the class and the professor, but it is a lot of work. His class is really conceptual and you really need to understand the concepts to do well. Make sure that you go to his study sessions to get the low down on the exams.
He is the best professor by far at GCC. His classes require that you set aside enough time to complete all of the required work before class. His teaching methods are super innovative and enable you to learn the material. The subject matter is relatively difficult, but he has a way of making it simple to grasp and fun.
He makes micro really fun and uses real life examples. He is super energetic and it is apparent that he really loves to teach. The class is a decent amount of work, but it is doable if you set aside at least 5 hours per week. Take him, you wont regret it.
His class is pretty rigorous but he gives you everything you need to successful. He is super funny and is willing to help anyone that needs it. He had study sessions before tests outside of class that were super helpful. You can tell he really works hard to teach way he does with all of the online lecture videos and exercises he created. Take him.
if anyone has taken him online I would like to know how that goes for the summer session. the class is econ102 but is it easier or harder online?
He is forsure the funniest prof i have ever had BUT his class was also the hardest class i have ever had. I recommend taking the full online class cuz what we do in class is a waste of time and no points come out of it. Everything that is used for points was done online. Expect for the tests which were done in class.
All I wanna say is his class is very manageable (online) but don't underestimate his exams. I thought I'd be able to pass with like a decent understanding of the chapters, but just make sure you really know the subject. I would've gotten an A if I had put a little more effort to study, but besides that his class is amazing!! He's a great prof
Prof. Ames is a really cool guy and his teaching style is very easy to understand as well. The times we had in class before COVID were really fun. The grading system, though, is wack. Tests are worth over 85% of your final grade. Lecture notes, iVAT Quizzes, and Worksheets are worth nothing and take way too much time; there is no incentive for them
Prof. Travis is caring and fun. Weekly lecture videos and homework. 3 exams, 1 non-cumulative final and 1 short research paper. His test's are quite tough, you need to study. 1 note card allowed during the exam. Study guide and sessions provided before the exam. 4 total exams: 85%-90% of your grade, rest is 10%. Work hard to receive an A.
His class is pretty hard, gives a lot of assignments. However, all those are very helpful to prepare for the test. Lots of work, need to put lots of effort into it, but at the end, you will find out that you learned so much about it! If you have any question go and ask him, he is very nice when you talk to and give a good feedback for the class.
He is an amazing person. He does everything in order for you to learn and always next to his students. He can spend hours extra so that students understand everything. Overall, the economy is based on our everyday life and makes sense but the class is hard, so be ready to work hard and what is important to follow everything the instructor directs.
Man Travis is awesome. He has the same kinda sense of humor as me, and that made the dry subject of Economics extremely fun. I loved that class, but it wasnt easy as the tests are tricky. Dont take his joking around as a sign that you can be disrespectful, he will lay down the law. Show Travis respect and do your homework and you will pass.
Do not take this professor for online learning. It seems like hes better in-person. Its grueling having to sit in a Zoom lecture for three whole hours and then have to listen to his voice on his recorded lectures that he has you to submit your notes for. Proctored exams that are 200 pts but homework is only worth 3. Fail a quiz? GL fixing a grade
He makes econ really fun and he breaks down the material to where you can relate it to you personal life or everyday scenarios. The class is a lot of work, and econ is not easy, but I got an A by religiously redoing the assignments a couple day before the exams. If you fail to pass his classes you literally put zero effort.
His class is super organized for an online class and it is really easy to follow and know exactly what you need to complete in order to be successful. There are a lot of assignments in the course, but all of it prepares you for the exams. As long as you do the work you will pass. I really enjoyed the material in 101 and am now taking him for 102.
Love this prof! He sets you up to succeed with the format of the course and exams. His course is a decent amount of work, but it really prepares you for the exams. Prof Ames also keeps the material interesting and makes econ fun, which really helps because my other ECON 101 prof made things really boring and dull. Take him you wont regret it!
Probably one of the funniest and most laid back people I've ever met. He's the reason why I've considered changing my major to Economics (originally accounting). His class is so enjoyable, there wasn't a class where he didn't have me cracking up. He's also very understanding and explains the subject very well. If you have the chance, take him!!!!!!
I took professor Ames econ 101 class over winter online. Take his class! you won't regret it. He's a great prof and if you watch his videos and pay attention in class you'll get an A no problem.
Professor Ames's lectures are one of the most fun ones I've ever had. He makes the subject very interesting but there is so much homework to do. For each chapter you'll have to watch his video lectures, take notes, submit the notes and then also take a quiz regarding the videos. I never got the book and only used his lectures so it's very helpful.
One of the best professors that I've had. Charismatic and makes lectures entertaining. Tests are worth vast majority of the grade so study hard and you should do just fine.
The homework assignments take a lot of time to complete but aren't worth any points. Thus, the tests determine your grade, which are filled with questions that are written in confusing language. The lectures don't prepare you for exams, neither do they add to the information in the homework videos. The final research paper is not graded fairly.
Professor Ames is great, one of the best Professors that I have taken at GCC. He made lectures entertaining and class enjoyable. There is a lot of homework and material outside of class however the material does help explain course material. I would recommend Ames to anyone who needs Econ. But do not expect to skip lecture and get a good grade.
Professor Ames is one of the best professor ever. I took him for Econ 101 . He make learning fun. I even used to look forward to his class that's how good he is. The subject is also quite interesting. Eventhough Classes were through Zoom, I love the class. The Crazy part is that u actually wind up learning things. He give a lot of HW so be ready.
Took professor Ames during Spring 2021. Definitely, every entertaining and fun listening to his lectures gives a lot of real-life stories that Hollywood could make movies about. Although you would have to work for a good grade, the class is based on 4 big multiple-choice tests. If you do the work and listen to his lectures you should easily pass.
Professor Ames has a great approach to teach economy, so that everyone can understand the concept. His class is very fun, I always look forward his lectures, they are very interesting. You just need to do all assignments and will be ready for the test. This subject is not easy, and you need to work hard for a good grade. Very honest professor.
His online class is an absolute joke. Test heavy exams where if you get 3 problems on the multiple choice wrong your basically down to a B on a 44 question exam your down 12 points. His lectures he posts to YouTube are incredibly dull and his work is even more tedious. I would not recommend him if you just need to take Econ for GEs
Prof Ames sets you up to be successful. As long as you complete all of the assignments, take thorough lecture notes from the online lecture videos, and go HAM on the test prep module, you will at least get a B in the course. His tests are not easy, but I found that completing all of the practice assignments adequately pepares you on the exams.
There are a lot of assignments in his classes, but they really prepare you for the exams. As long as you follow the directions on the writing assignments you will do well. Really enjoyed the material in his course and he always makes the class fun. I can now understand econoimic news and I feel that this will help me in my accounting career.
Professor Ames is a very solid choice for an econ class. His tests are difficult only if you don't utilize his practice test modules. A lot of the content on exams comes from his lectures so pay attention! His lectures can be long however he makes them so entertaining, you forget it's an economics class. Very easy going.
Hands down he is the best professor that I have ever had. He makes the Zoom sessions and econ so much fun, which I didn't think was possible. I learned a lot in his class and he goes above and beyond to help his students. Just make sure that you complete the test prep module and you will pass. His tests are hard, but his lectures really help.
He is a good Professor. The final grade mainly consists of the tests so beware of that. He is very funny and his lectures are far from boring.
Be ready to take a lot notes
Took online class recently during the intersession. The online lecture videos in the iVATs are super detailed and easy to understand. They can take a while to complete, but they really help you with the exams. Overall, the class was very interesting and I am now taking his ECON 102 class this semester. Highly recommend!
He is by far my favorite teacher at GCC. You learn a lot from his class and have fun at the same time. I was always scared of economics. I thought economy would be boring, but he always made it interesting. He is able to relate to students really well and teach the material in way that we can understand and enjoy. Take him you won't regret it!
Ames is my favorite professor at GCC. I didn't like econ in high school, but he really makes the material interesting and the ZOOM sessions are always fun. He talks about current events and relates it to the material in class. I struggled with econ in the past but he did a real good job explaining material to me.
Prof Ames is great! Lectures were always fun and informative. Not too much homework, but some videos require more time to get through than others but aren't difficult. Tests are challenging but if you review the test prep sections, you will be perfectly fine. Four tests and one writing assignment at the end of term. You'll get an A if you study!
Econ101 didn't come easy to me. Very few points are given for discussions & lessons but the tests are worth a lot of points. & if you do not do well on the tests, you won't do well in the class. The first test I failed, but I reached out to Pro. Ames and he helped me out and I was able to bring my grade up to a B-, I'm so grateful for his help.
He is hilarious! he does not repeat the reading material, instead, he creates discussions using real life examples to show an example of the material read. Loved the energy, his class will never put you to sleep. The tests are not easy, but if you put in time and effort to study the material then it's not that bad.
Fantastic professor. Economic genius. Took his class in 2020 and now that I am a Econ/finance major I basically owe my career and work and writings to Professor Ames macro and micro Econ class. Hope him and his family are well; a truly caring professor!
