this guy was insane...a real stickler...he thinks tcc is harvard or somthing. If you want to work your tail off, take him. also, I found him to be extreemly liberal and i think that is important since it was argumentative english. I would recomend professor boran only if you want to waste your money and lower your GPA

Do not take him for 112. All he does is debate and talks about stuff that has nothing to do with english. He gives a garbage thesis sentence about about how to write that particular paper. He is a very harsh grader & doesn't really teach. No one likes him and he ridicules his students. DO NOT TAKE HIS 112 CLASS!

This teacher cares only about you if you agree with his argument. He spends all of the class time talking about gays and gay marriages. I did not learn anything in this class. Do Not take him, if you see his name, run, and don't look back

This is the worst professor that I have ever been in contact with. He is not clear about anything that he wants out of a paper. He tells you one thing and then goes against what he tells you. Do not attempt to take this professor!!!!!

Will make you hate college and quit at the beginning of your degree. This person is Ignorant, arrogant, unqualified, contradicts MLA guidelines, contradicts himself, Great supporter for homosexuality and prostitution. Writes WHAT on your paper whenever he feels like. Will aggressively point at you with his finger if you have a different opinion.

Mr. Baran is one of the most vague and unhelpful teachers I have ever had. He is nonspecific about his requirements for his papers and grades very harshly. Lecture is boring and hardly ever pertains to the actual topic that he is supposed to be teaching. He should be a philosophy teacher instead. Don't take his class if you need to pass English.

Don't take this class, his is very opinionated, if you don't write a paper that he agrees on, you will get a bad grade. Stay away for this professor.

The assignment due dates in the syllabus were unclear. Term papers are due the week of . The grading system was unclear. A rubric for assignments would have been helpful and would alleviate potential biases when grading assignments. The expectation was the student was responsible for self-teaching themselves MLA format.

I remember I took this teacher and I dropped the class like everyone else, I already knew I was going to fail his class . with the grading he does, its horrible! and all he talks about is PHILOSOPHY

Absolute worse professor I've ever had. Has impossible expectations for a lower level college English class. Effort makes no difference here.

Horrible professor! His grading system was unclear, his feedback was horrid and items he did not state in his syllabus RANDOMLY appeared when it was time to grade. He took DAYS to reply to emails and was hard to reach. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

He lectures through the whole class. No work in class. Students just listen to him talk the whole class. My class was 2 hours 45 min. Made it difficult to learn when he lectures so long. Yes a tough grader but I had my papers looked over by other English Professors and they agreed with me that all of my papers deserved an A or B. Don't take him!!

Way too harsh grader! Gives unclear feedback. Acts like his opinion is the only one for a topic that is subjective. If he doesnt agree with you he will fail you. Avoid this class at all costs! HE SUCKS!!!

I took Baran for my very first semester. It was a Friday class that was almost three hours. Lots of essays but that's to be expected, now if you chose a subject he didn't agree on he would slaughter your paper. Very up front with things which can be intimidating. Some of the dates on syllabus were unclear. Did not like him at all. Pushes buttons.

Dont take this class. Very disrespectful. His opinion only counts when receiving clarification. He'll butcher your paper w/illegible comments. I always use the site before I chose my classes; not sure why I didn't see any of these prior comments. I wish that I had, I definitely would'nt have selected any courses with him as a Professor. DONT DO IT

He was my first English professor at TCC and after taking his class I'm scared to go into English 112. There is no class or home work just constant papers with tons of illegible criticism. If you don't believe what he believe's he can be unpleasant and harsh. Never uses blackboard so I never knew what my grade was until the class was over.

I will NEVER select a class without viewing this site anymore. This man completely chose the wrong profession. I have NEVER encountered an "educator" who chooses to make you feel as worthless and idiotic as he will make you feel. All I can say is I wish I had more characters left to thoroughly express my anguish and despair from taking his class.

Brace yourself for this man. He literally throws all logic out the window. Went to class to write a paper and the man told me that a government website was not a good source for citing and that you can not use brackets when citing in MLA format. He also argued that wind powered energy is not solar energy. Look it up, it is.

Not for everyone. He has a lot of expectations that are not always clear. He will rip your papers apart, can be very discouraging, pushes buttons, makes you feel stupid. But if you have a knack or a passion for writing then he is your guy. BUT you are just taking it because you have to, DO NOT take this teacher.

The guy throws everything you ever learned in an English class in grade school out the window. Anything you thought you knew about English class he contradicts. His papers are all political based so if you write about something he doesn't agree with regardless of how good the paper is he will tear it apart giving you at least a C. USE THE BOOK!

The worst teacher I have ever had. I have absolutely no clue what he was trying to teach. Says essays should be unrelated from the topic sentence, each paragraph should only contain rephrasings of one idea, using any words he didn't know is plagiarism and warrants a failing grade. Had to do the opposite of what he taught to do well in other class

Hes a belittling educator. I have tried multiple times to reason with him, although hes impossible to compromise with. He only wants basic lessons taught and criticizes everything. His criticism doesnt make sense and always says use the textbook. Although when I do, he then corrects me even more.

He doesnt follow his own instructions for papers for one of my papers I used statistics and I got bashed for it when he used statistics in his examples. In that same paper he said my papers conclusion acted like a summary when not even a tiny bit of it was one.

Harsh and critical, will not care about other classes or any prior experience because he is grading on his expectations and his alone. You receive 4 assignments for the entire year and one extra credit assignment that wont help because it only adds 20 points to your lowest grade.

If he isn't repeating the same tired metaphors and previously failed student writing topics, he is defending his techniques against previous critics. Students receive literal PAGES of criticism for every assignment with contradicting statements. Very harsh grader and uses fear as a launching point for writing. I would NOT recommend him for beginner

he's a jerk, acts like he knows everything, and wants you to write his papers like how he would write them, and it's so ridiculous

Worst Teacher I've Ever Had. For the whole semester; 3 papers and 1 works cited page worth 80% of your grade and discussions are worth 20%. There's no other way you could pull your grade up. He wants you to write like you're writing an encyclopedia. He expects you to be a professional writer as soon as you start his class. 0/10 recommend.

This professor is well known to be the worst in the English department at this institution. He is ridiculed even by his colleagues behind his back. The dean of the English department joked that she could not fire him because he was tenured. The dean has an entire stack of issues related to this professor on her desk. Hope this helps.

Worst teacher I've ever had in my life. Mans wanted me to write like I was Beethoven. I would follow his syllabus perfectly and he would still give me 60's on my papers. The first paper I had in his class I got a 25 because the paper was too short. He said it had to be at least 2 full pages and mine was 3 FULL pages. Idk how he became a professor.

class is very lecture heavy, straight from the textbook with random interjected thoughts inserted into the lecture. overall, a dull class

He expects you to be a proficient and high level technical writer in this entry level basic class. Provides outline of assignments online but doesn't discuss them thoroughly in class. when coming around to look through the classes work, he doesn't adhere to his own assignment outline. He often goes off topic as well for most of the lecture time.

Forbids us from using the bathroom during our 2 hour class.

This professor is super funny! he will argue back and fourth with you even if you are correct and show him real proof. He thinks we are in Harvard English when we are clearly in TCC English. Get ready to read 10 pages as to why your 2 page essay was bad. This man was a joke

Only the end of the first week and I'm pretty sure I'm transferring to another class. Instead of giving instructions would rather go around in circles. Easily the most difficult teachers I've had in life.

I have genuinely never felt so degraded by a professor in my life. The PAGES of comments I received after our first paper made me feel awful and worthless as a student. If you struggle with your mental health and are a sensitive person, do NOT take a course with this professor.

He is very rude and confusing in how he gives instructions, and when you ask for clarification he will go back and forth with you and confuse you further. He writes pages of response on why your paper was bad, no matter what grade you received. (I personally got a 90 on a three page paper and got 10 pages of rude criticism back.)

Dropped the class after he insulted me in a lengthy email when all I did was simply ask him about the topic of my essay. In the 4 days I was in his class he did nothing but ramble about nothing while expecting me to know what to write about. He is proud of failing students in an entry level class for not being up to his standard. DO NOT TAKE!

Do not take his class. Every email he contradicts himself gave me a 0 for an assignment that he approved of me doing and stated he didn't approve of it

He is the worst English professor I have EVER had. He is rude, arrogant, and always tries to one up students by giving them pages worth of criticism. No matter what you do he will not be pleased.
