Had for CHM 1210 lecture and didn't seem to know what he was talking about. He always avoided questions and told us that we should just go with what he said for the purpose of the class. Goes through the power points way to fast and uses large, confusing words unnecessarily. Unfortunately your only other option for lecture isn't any better.
Reminds me of Sheldon from the Big Bang Theory
Dr. Clark is a fairly new teacher. He drones on during his lectures and he seems to have trouble bringing it down to a basic level of understanding. The average test grade in our class for all 4 out of 6 tests so far has been 54%. He doesn't feel the need to help us learn what we don't understand. He is condescending when he explains things also.
I find interest in sitting in on class only to count his coughs, to watch him pace back and forth, and to see what he does with his hands. Clark has a bad problem with not making eye contact with anyone. His knows his information, yet doesn't know how to simplify it to a CHM 1010 need. He uses many non needed large words. Go to his office for help.
I hear Dr. Clark is a first year teacher, and you can definitely tell! He seems to know his stuff, but just can't seem to dumb it down to teach it. I learned nearly nothing from sitting in lecture, but did find it amusing to count how many times he coughed. As far as tests go, my strategy is to guess. He does curve your grade eventually!
Most people hate him but he taught me how to teach myself. Most people struggled but I had no issues. His tests are ok but if you miss 2 questions, you're at a low A. Lab really helps boost your grade. He can't teach well because he's so smart, that he can't dumb it down to save a life.
I didn't think Mr. Clark was that bad. I didn't get anything out of his class though. You have to teach yourself the information from the book. The class itself isn't that hard, and he curves everything like crazy. Even labs! You only have to know the main points in every chapter. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF MASTERING CHEMISTRY! It's essential! Helps a ton!
If I had 3 hands I'd give him 3 thumbs down... Powerpoints are NEVER correct and is constantly being corrected by students. He knows the material, but just can't seem to get it out. I took 2 years of chemistry in high school, am in the honors program, and I'm lost. Along with that his final is worth 40% of your grade and he doesn't even make it...
Worst professor I've ever had. Reads right off his slides and doesn't elaborate, I had to teach myself. Exam averages were all 60%. Try to switch out of his class.
Super tough class. Not a good teacher. He is very knowledgeable about the stuff but has no idea how to teach it. His powerpoints are no help for the test. I suggest reading the chapters in the book before the exams.
Clark over all is a great professor but does need some work on his in class teaching, One on One help is where he does his best teaching, his tests are not something you can wing but if you take the time to read the book, homework, and slides most of the problems are extremely similar. Forming a Study group is the best way to pass this class.
He is an awful professor. The worst I've had so far. I am in the honors program, a Direct Admit to the Nursing Program, and I have taken other chemistry assessment before and I am lost when it comes to his exams. He is awful at teaching the material. He changes his grading policy to fit his agenda.
I had him last semester for gen chem 1. Vast improvement over last semester. At least he's putting in effort. Lectures can still be confusing, office hours or a tutor are a must. One on one he is great. Exams are difficult I could do almost all the textbook problems but had lots of issues with his extended response problems which was frustrating.
To be honest I did not study as hard as I should. If you read the chapters, take his practice exams, and do well with the homework you will pass. I got a 78 and didn't do very well on exams. So just study study study and you could get a B! He is also helpful if you ask.
He makes the lectures incredibly boring and reads directly from the PowerPoint, but if you don't go to class you won't know what's going on at all. All I can say is get into the material from the very beginning if you want to get a good grade in this class. He does clicker questions which count as participation.
Dr. Clark was very confusing in his lectures, a lot of the things he said was above my head and I had to attempt to teach myself out of the book. I did the best I could in class and went to his office hours frequently. If you work really hard you will do okay. I got a B, but put in a ton of effort for my B.
Honestly students need to realize that O-Chem is a difficult course. Your best bet is to do the online homework, read over the chapter (really helps during homework) and do notes after lecture because they are all online. Youd be better off giving your full attention instead of focusng on getting all the notes down in 55 minutes.
Reads straight from slides, no reason to go to class. If you have questions, he won't answer. He simply tells you to read the book. All the important stuff like viruses and important vitamins we don't cover. While writing notes he covers material and after he finishes he says " But I don't expect you to know that."
This class is not particularly easy, but Travis does his best to explain it to you in class. However, the tests that he makes are pretty tough. He asks very concept based questions. The class average was a mid 60, but curved that to a C. However if there is a question you have over the material, the dude is always on campus, he'll explain it to you
Professor Clark is an AWFUL teacher. He does not describe anything and he simply expects you to know everything. His exams are the hardest things I've ever taken in my life, and over half the questions were over things we have never talked about in class or on the homework. I have to teach myself so I am confused on why I pay him to do nothing...
The concepts taught in this class are very difficult. While Clark does his best to teach it, the information is still very difficult and fully problem-based. The tests are a few multiple choice questions and a few difficult problems. You will need to review old problems in order to pass. Dr. Clark himself is a very nice man though, and will help.
Just don't do it. Take someone else.
Dr. Clark gets a bad rap because of the subject he teaches. Organic chemistry is a very hard concept for most people to understand , and so a lot of people begin to blame him for their poor grades. However, he quickly responds to emails and questions and writes out the notes with you in lecture. To get good grades you need to work hard and study.
Professor Clark makes learning difficult material manageable and will answer any questions that you have. He wants his students to succeed. If you pay attention to his lectures and actually put effort in, you will do well. I definitely recommend Professor Clark.
Pretty sure I may end up not passing this class. It was one of the hardest classes I've ever taken and the majority of students fail. The homework is all online and you better save time to do it or you won't get it done. On average it took me 3 hours to get it done. Go to class during April Craze because thats the only time he gave extra credit.
Hope you can teach yourself. Get the book you're gonna need it.
Dr. Clark is highly dedicated to his students. During the semester he was available around the clock and his door was always open. People need to stop belly aching and understand that Org Chem is really just a tough course for most people. Dr. Clark is not doing you or your future patients any favors by just giving you an A. Take his class!!
:( hardest thing ever
I cannot believe the exams this man writes out. He gets mad at the students for the averages yet nothing we went over in class was on the exams. ITS CLASS MATERIAL ON STEROIDS!
May have to my major because he is so unreasonable with his exams. Horrendous
Skip class? You won't pass. More like go to every class, still won't pass.
If your not a chemistry buff prepare to take an F.
I think Travis is probably a good man but he is not a good professor at all. He needs to find something else to do. The thought of this class brings on tears.
He is not as bad as I thought he was going to be. He is there to help you if you go to his office hours and show that you are actually trying! Pre-lectures and homework help you're grade if you do them.
Dr. Clark is a really nice guy and cares about students, but I think it takes it too seriously sometimes. He is super willing to help you if you go to his office, and he tries to make things easy to understand. His tests are not multiple choice, and he will take off points for small things. If you pay heavy attention to detail, you should do fine.
He is a good prof in that he emails back quickly, is open to talk in person whenever free, and gives you many opportunities to practice the concepts learned in class. However, lectures can be confusing, and the tests are very difficult.
Everyone talks so negatively about Dr. Clark, but the class really isn't that bad. It is a challenge, but it is not impossible. Dr. Clark makes himself available for students to ask questions and he's very knowledgable about the subject. The concepts in the class are difficult, but by going to class and actually reading the book it is 100% doable
He is honestly one of the best professors I have ever had. I almost failed chemistry when I took it in high school , but passed his class with flying colors. If you spend a good amount of time actually doing the homework and studying the material you will pass the class. He is readily available to explain things and lays things out well in class.
He likes people who put in effort, if you put in effort and go to his review sessions and he can put a face with the name he will most likely curve you at the end of the semester. If you do the bare minimum and it shows, you won't get a curve. He is willing to help you. The tests are hard so prepare a lot. The lab quizzes are hard as well.
While I was in high school, I hated chemistry and was dreading that I had to take this class. If you watch the online videos and print out the power point slides, you are in a good place. His lectures are for extra practice and you get participation points, which are helpful towards your grade. The labs are fun, but the reports are the worst thing.
I never knew I liked ochem till I took this class. WATCH THE VIDEOS. the class is not bad at all if you do what you are supposed to
I would give my first born in order to not have to retake this.
The course was tough, but organic chem is going to be hard. Just PRACTICE and read the textbook you'll be fine. Also, meet with him!
It was an okay class. He didn't really teach, just gave out practice problems to do. He gives a lot of homework so be prepared. If you go to class, do the homework, and watch his videos you'll be fine.
Not bad overall, but beware: he has smartwork online assignments due before each and every non-exam class session. Exams can be tough, but study using his powerpoints and the SI sheets and you will be fine. Always do at least part of his written problems: he will give you points for just setting up the equation. More leniant than you mightthink
Dr. Clark was an okay professor. He is lenient on partial credit but you need to study your butt off. The final for our class was RIDICULOUS though. it looked nothing like what we covered and dropped many students grades at the end of the semester.
Dr. Clark genuinely cares for his students you can tell he enjoys teaching. His class is difficult. It's the toughest A I ever worked for, but it was worth it. His exams are mostly written which is nice because he gives partial credit. There is smartwork homework before each class and a lot of reading. The workload is high but he's a good professor
Dr. Clark is a really nice professor and really cares that you do well in his class. He always has reviews two classes before midterms. He drops one midterm grade, which is a big grade boost. Lots of homework, but remember to do it, as it is highly weighted for your final grade. Participate in class! Very nice guy. Go talk to him if you need help.
Clark was by far the best chemistry professor I had in school. He goes through several example problems in lecture to verify understanding. He is also extremely accessible outside of lecture and responds to emails very quickly. Although chemistry can be tough, it was much easier with Clark as a professor. He also curves your final grade greatly!
As far as WSU General Chemistry professors he's probably your best bet. The class itself is a nightmare, but he does usually explain things well and he posts his full slides with notes before tests. Use the book directly for the homework, and take advantage of his pre-exam review sessions, but make sure you ask him anything you don't understand.
He has a lot of office hours and is willing to help
Dr. Clark wasn't as bad as everyone said. The material is tough and there is a ton to cover. He doesn't really teach on a beginners level. He is very smart and has trouble relating the material to non chemistry materials. He has the most office hours of any professor I have ever had.
Dr. Clark is a great teacher. Yes the material is difficult and it requires a lot of work to succeed, but he offers countless office hours, there are SI sessions and study sessions before the exam. If you dedicate yourself, you'll do fine. He gives a curve and he responds fast to emails. He expects effort in class and for you to be prepared.
Yes, Dr. Clark is a little bit awkward, but he has a sense of humor if you get to know him. The class is very hard but a good grade is manageable if you put in the work. He has a big curve at the end. I'm currently at a 87% and all we have left is the final.
Class is very challenging! Him as a teacher is okay. If you go to him he will help but you have to come with questions.
Id give up my first born not to have to take this again. It was hard. Despite what youll hear though, Dr. Clark is genuinely a nice guy. He responds quickly to emails and provided lots of office hours. The majority of your grade are tests. The tests are hard but if you watch his videos and go to SI, youll be fine. Beware lots of homework.
I'm telling you right now, I am sorry to the Nursing Major students who will have to take him for Organic Chemistry. Stay strong and push through, because its going to be a crazy ride in this class. Textbook will be your bible and the online practice is a pain, but very very helpful. Good luck
A lot of online homework, but you'll find they aren't worth much in the end. The tests are worth a lot. You definently have to work for your grade. Studying is constant. Don't skip class and watch all of his videos. They are super helpful. He's a very personable professor. Ochem is hard, so just give it your all. Big curve at the end.
Dr. Clark is a good guy. Class is tough. If your good at algebra 2 then you can pass. I got a C, narrowly missed the curve by 0.3%. Make sure you read the book. Half the battle is math and half is conceptional.
This was the most difficult class I've taken in college, and I will never take another chemistry class again. He rarely lectures, and when he does it's a lot of information all at once.
Organic chemistry is hard; it's not Dr. Clark's fault. He's really fun to talk to, and is very understanding.
He isnt the best professor. Willing to work with students but gets frustrated if you dont understand the material.
he wasn't a mean person but the class was just very hard in my opinion. i never skipped and i still didn't get it. he really couldn't teach and taught very fast.
Travis is a super nice guy! Get on his good side and he WILL help you. He even wrote me a letter for my scholarship. However, this class was hard. Be prepared to stay up until 3 am for the grade that you want. Be prepared to cut off socializing time with friends bc of all the online HW. Lecture is mandatory.
This was a SUPER rough class. I took the 6 week summer course and unless its your only course being taken I would not recommend taking in the summer. Dr. Clark is a nice guy but he expects you to be at his level all the time which is not realistic. Lab and extra credit pulled me through.
Dr. Clark is my favorite professor. He is very nice and i promise if you go to his office hours he will help you! Attend class, sit in front, and engage. He has helped me pave the way, helped me get a scholarship, and made me fall in love with organic chemistry. This isnt easy so you must put in the work to study! Take him!
It takes a true individual to try and explain even the surface level of something as complex as organic chemistry. Hes still finely tuning this machine, but you can see he is starting to get the hang of what students can easily grasp as well as their struggles. There are many offerings for help in this class. And get a tutor as soon as possible.
Changed my major but I had to drop the course because I was taking it with Anatomy. Don't fall behind!
I honestly dont know how anyone has passed this class. If your not a chemistry major, your gonna fail, and hes not gonna care.
Way more homework than necessary. The homework doesnt even represent what he wants you to know. Hours of videos you have to watch outside of class to learn the material. Pop quizzes when he gets angry at the class.
The class is no walk in the park, it is very possible you will need to seek extra help, the content is difficult for gen chem 2. You must complete all homework accurately for any hope of a good grade. Test can sometimes be too long for anyone to finish. I recommend taking him, it will be difficult do not fall behind, get help if you need it.
Tough class but you can do well if you work hard and seek help on things you dont understand. This class had the most homework of any class Ive taken but it usually helps you learn the material. Dr Clark is very available for help outside class and explains things well.
He is an amazing professor but his style of teaching does not work for everyone. People blame it on him but its not him, its just the content that makes it so difficult. Lots of hw but the hw makes the content make more sense. Very hard class. Put in the time and you will see a good outcome. You cant just study the night before. Requires time
I dont know how anyone passes
I really enjoyed him as a person. If you show concern in your grade and go to his office hours he will definitely help. This class is not easy, but I dont think thats his fault. If you do the assignments he gives you and watch his videos and keep up on the reading you will do fine in his class!
I have taken a different class of his but this O Chem class was brutal. Our class as a whole did properly on exams one was as low as 37% but he did not go over exam just moved on.
Hardest class I have taken
This was the most terrible class I have ever taken in my life. I feel like this was his first time teaching straight orgo one. I went to every class, I went to office hours once a week. I tried so hard. Only to finish with a 59% and he set the grading score to where a 61% would give you a C. I emailed him to see if there was anything he could do.
60 was a C. If you really think about it, I'm to sure how students who passed are going to pass Orgs 2. So many people were happy to get an A or B, but I don't think it makes them any smarter. In a "real" orgo class they would have failed. The class average for exams were always F's. So lets get real, I think a handful would have actually passed
lectures were online videos you were supposed to watch before class and show up being an expert on everything. worst class I've ever taken. I think only 4-5 people got an A. He curves everything so he passes everyone.
Tries to be there when you email him for questions
Absolutely hated this class. Transferring universities just so i can get the degree i want without having to take this class with Travis (he's the only ochem teacher in WSU). His "lectures" were 4-8 20 mins vids that you had to watch and perfect by the next class, so you could move on. Unit a day. Class sucked. Do NOT recommend.
Dr. Clark gets a bad rap but it's not his fault that Organic Chemistry is hard. The course is difficult, not the professor. He gives out videos to watch every night before class. I would say he's a fair grader. There are four exams and a final. The lowest exam grade drops. I would love to have him again if I could. He's very polite.
Professor Clark gets the blame for ochem being hard. He is not a bad professor. If you are willing to learn and put in the work, the class will not be hard. If you are going to skip and not give effort, you will struggle. Your dedication determines your grade. He is a fair grader and wants the best for his students. He geniunly does care.
The hardest class Ive ever taken. He was all over the place and not organized at all. He expected you to watch 5 20 minute videos before every class and completely understand the topics before coming to class. All he did in class was lecture for 20 minutes and hand out work sheets. I almost changed my major because of this class.
Took organic chem my first semester- would not recommend him to anyone who is not interested in chemistry. He is very knowledgable, but not willing to work with you often. Exams were based off the book, but his lectures were about 70% in-line with what was in the book. Be ready for it to consume you. Go to class and do the homework, study a ton!!
This class was the hardest class I had ever taken. Organic chemistry is hard in general, but I feel as though he could've went about his teaching in a better manner. He is a nice guy though and he would talk to his students and make you feel known.
Hes exams are hard. He has a lot of group activities. I would highly recommend to Ask him questions and go to his office hours to see your mistakes
Professor Clark made chemistry 2 doable. I had a different professor for general chemistry 1, and did not learn nearly as much. His notes are helpful, and the tests are VERY fair. He is always willing to help outside of class. It is easy to earn an A if you put in the work. I wish I would have been able to take general chemistry 1 with him.
Dr. Clark is a fantastic prof. Ochem isn't easy, but he makes it doable. He gives a detailed schedule of the entire course w/ all due dates. In-class work/reviews are similar to exams (his lectures are very helpful). 5-point quizzes if there's no participation. Read & watch videos! Don't fall behind as it's a fast-paced course. He wants to help!
Professor Clark is the BEST professor. He is given bad ratings because the class itself is HARD. It's a lot of work, do ALL of the lectures and homework to pass. He does all he can to make sure his students pass, he is always willing to help students who put effort in. I didn't pass 2 exams, but he offered help and I ended the semester with a B.
He uses a "flipped classroom" learning model. So you watch all of your lectures outside of class time and work on worksheets in class. I found the class easy but many didn't. Attendance is mandatory because of small pop quizzes. This class was more annoying than hard I think because of all the homework. Dr. Clark is helpful and tries his best.
I dreaded having to take this class because I hate chemistry. The class ended up being super easy if you follow along with his schedules. Beware of falling behind. It is definitely a hard class, ochem is hard, but Dr. Clark truly cares for students and is more than willing to help if you need it. Plus there are always LAs to help during class.
Dr. Clark teaches in a flipped classroom setting which results in you having to do everything outside of class. The only thing you do in class is a pop quiz or worksheet. The class was very very time consuming. One thing to note is that his real exam questions are way harder than his practice exam. Also multiple choice is harder than written.
Honestly super easy class. I failed gen chem in high school so I was dreading taking this class but it turned out to be a very easy class. He is very caring and is always there to help. You do most of the work by yourself but you can always ask for help and one thing I will suggest is to NEVER FALL BACK on his pre-class assignments :)
You need to have dedication to learn because ochem is a hard material/topic to learn and cover but the professor is very helpful. He usually get's blamed when students fail his course but it's not because he can't teach, it's because those students are more than likely not putting much effort into their work. Dedication will dictate your grade.
This professor was incredibly bad at communicating, hard to get ahold of and a biased grader. The average for every exam i had with him was a D or below and he didn't offer much of a curve. He was hardly ever available outside of class, took forever to grade things and post class materials, and wouldn't reply to emails. Avoid him if at all possible
Professor Clark is great at making sure you understand the material being covered. He has many routes to get help like SI sessions, office hours, and group sessions to ask him questions. He structures the classes so it is easy to complete work week-by-week. Uses class time to instruct and have students show their understanding through worksheets
Doesn't actually lecture in class. Be prepaird to do most work on your own and have lots of ALEKS homwork.
BEST professor I have had at Wright State. Anyone who says he is lazy is mistaken. Always willing to meet to go over troubling concepts, and he was always very responsive to emails (even on the weekends). He really cares about his students and wants to see them succeed. It is a difficult class, but hard work will pay off!
at the very beginning of the class he says that for every hour you are in his class you should expect to be doing 2 hours of homework. and by that he means watching almost an hour of lecture videos and taking notes along with reading a textbook chapter every other night including weekends and also having homework questions.
flipped classroom, hours of videos of him writing on an ipad(bad) to watch before every class as well as reading text book. In class time: hand out 10+ pages of edge case problems per class, may go over 1-2 at end otherwise totally on your own demands that "you know a bunch of stuff" How is "knowing a bunch of stuff" measured? experience may vary
so here's the rundown, he assigns some work in class and then goes over it at the end of the class. buttt he has pre-made lecture videos that you have to watch BEFORE coming to class and complete pre-class assignments so that you are able to do the said assigned work in class. has a flipped-classroom style of teaching but he curves A LOT!!!
For all the premeds who have to take an Ochem class, I sincerely request you to not choose him as you will lower your GPA. He has a flipped classroom method which makes things 10X times as difficult to understand and treats all like chem major, makes his exams hard and gives tons of homework without properly explaining concepts. Worst class ever!!!
I am paying for this class only to have to watch lectures up to 2 hours a day outside of class. He expects you to kind of just know things or figure them out quickly and gives off a feeling of making you feel dumb if you do not know what he is talking about right away. Same with the TAs.
His classroom is completely flipped. You do hours of notes on days you don't have class (TTh), and when we do have class (MTF) it's 55 minutes of over-explaining, so be ready to teach yourself. The lab TA I had was a very harsh grader and never explained things very well as to what their grading criteria was or why we got that grade.
Dr. Clark is one of the best professors at Wright State! I was terrified of organic chemistry, but he made it really doable! He uses a flipped classroom, so you watch videos outside of class and then he works with you on practice questions during class. His exams are the same style as the practice questions. Also, he has so many office hours.
Dr. Clark is the most conscientious professor I have come across at Wright State. He goes out of his way to provide help outside of the class. He has offices hours every day and also welcomes every walk-in students while he is in his office. If you are complaining about your grades you probably didn't put in enough effort. Suck it up buttercup!
He's very rude and talks down to students when he teaches. If you aren't coming to every office hour he has he wont care about you. Don't ask questions in his class because he will make you feel like you have no knowledge at all. He also grades and makes exams so hard very few students got over a 60% on his exams. A 60% to him meant you understood
I was someone who sucked at chemistry. I failed all chemistry classes before this one. He provides SO many resources. Anyone who says he was a bad professor just wasn't using the resources to their advantage. Lot's of videos to watch but if you watch them, they're easy to understand. He does applied work in class which helps. Just put in effort.
Clark uses the flipped classroom method. He provides a set of videos lasting up to 2 hours. My issue with him is that since you do the notes on your own if you don't get the topic you never will. In class he hands out a paper and only covers half of it. He hardly ever explains topics and didn't seem to care if people understood. I couldn't learn.
I had him for recitation. He wasn't super involved in our labs so I didn't get to know him very well. However, he was the man in charge so if we needed an extension we would have to ask him. I never needed one, but I have heard that all of my friends have been given extensions. He seems super caring. There is a lot of work and the final was hard.
Dr. Travis is a very genuine and good guy, who you can tell actually cares a lot about student's success. I guess it depends more on your TA for his class, I loved my TA she was very sweet and funny, she definitely wasn't the “easy” TA who'd just give her students the answers but you could reason and actually talk to her.
Professor Clark's CHEM1020 class is challenging but manageable with dedication. The flipped classroom model requires extensive pre-class prep, but he provides ample support through study sessions and office hours. Using Unstuck ai alongside the textbook helped me stay on top of the workload.
Provides mounds of videos to watch multiple days a week to "prepare" for the lecture, then doesn't even teach what was on the videos. On top of that, anything learned in class will 8 times out of 10 not be on the exams.
Class was lightwork, if you put effort into the class, you are guaranteed to succeed. This teacher works tremendously to give his students difficult and interesting practice problems that he then works through in class and puts a lot of effort in creating awesome test. All of these negative reviews are wrong if you get to know Dr. Clark.
Hours and HOURS of videos to watch outside of class that are the lecture. NO partial credit on exam answers, if it's not perfect you get a 0. Exam averages NEVER exceed an F, with a score of 50% meaning you're doing amazing (his words). Impossible to do good in this class without a tremendous curve. Impossible to focus on other classes with this.
Such an enjoyable class and a kind professor willing to take time to help each student personally. Everything on exams has been taught and practice, putting in the time and effort will result in a good grade.
One of the best professors at Wright State. He cares so much about his students and has a passion for learning. I don't understand how some wouldn't like him.
Objective review: Cons Lots of work outa class Preclass assignment is tedious Flipped classroom (it's kinda necessary) overly Difficult exams (& no multiple choice) hard to do well if taking many classes Pros VERY available out of class If you do what he tasks u with u acc learn ochem He's nice & not intimidating posts previous exams drops 1 exam
Terrible. He would threaten and give us pop quizzes for "attendance" because we would not answer a question he asked in lecture. Very hard grader. Averages on exams are always awful, but will blame the students for not putting in the work instead of also holding himself accountable. Acts like his class is the only class we have. Good luck.
Can be quite condescending in class. He is nice and helpful when you go to see him during office hours, but it doesn't translate to lecture. Hard grader and no partial credit given on exams. Would compare my class to the other 2120 class and talk about how much better they are than us. And would also talk down on my class to the other class.
You have to put time in after and before class, if you can do that you will succeed. He is very accessible outside of class via office hours, help sessions, and over email. I appreciated his teaching and his attention to detail. He does give partial credit on exams.
Organic chemistry is a difficult class, without plenty of at-home practice, there is just no way to do well in this course. In my opinion, those who dislike Dr. Clark just do not want to do any work. He literally gives out free points for attendance and pre-class assignments. Dr. Clark is a great professor and I truly enjoyed his class!
Dr. Clark was an excellent professor. He really cares about his student's success and supports his students through daily office hours and help session before exams. The material is difficult, but using all available resources will ensure success in this class.
Dr. Clark does chemistry very differently. Most class content is though videos you watch before class, exams are fully open ended, and he considers an exam average of 50% to be good. I think this can put people off a little who were expecting something like gen chem, it is much harder. But it is also the highest quality class I have ever taken. 5/5
Be ready for a tough class with Professor Clark. Lots of hard, no-multiple-choice tests where the average was always in the 50s. Grading is strict, no extra credit. Teaching isn't always clear, so studying on your own is key. Best for self-starters who don't need much help.
His O chem class requires so. many. lecture. videos. You HAVE to watch and write everything down or else you WILL fail the exams. These lecture video notes are assigned 3-4 times a week and each portion can take hours to complete. I spend most of my time teaching myself outside of class instead of him doing it during class time. Good luck!
Very kind, caring, helpful, and available for students
Hope you don't want your grade back anytime soon! Took an exam on a Monday, and you won't get the grade back until almost a month later. He makes you watch videos of him writing out his notes and his handwriting is genuinely worse than a 2nd grader. To his credit, he does have lots of office hours but he gets an attitude if you ask him a question.
This professor creates a very stressful environment and often comes across as rude and condescending. The class feels more like high school than college, with assigned seating and mandatory attendance. The workload is overwhelming, with constant homework, labs, and eight exams.
Very available outside of class. Lots of homework. You get graded on being in class. Tests are not multiple-choice and are much harder than the practice problems completed in class. Do well at the beginning of class because the final exams are difficult. Great guy though.
