Professor Hayes can be a decent person. He can be resourceful when needed but when you do your homework and turn it in, he gives it back to you with really heavy criticism. He grades you more on the way you structure your homework than your homework itself. Don't get me wrong, he's a good person but as a professor, he can be tough to get across.
Travis has been a greater Math professor for my first year at Sac State. I struggle with math so he definitely showed me a different perspective in math. He does lectures but more group work with worksheets. Hes always happy to see his students at office hours and help with anything that you might be struggling with.
Taking this course has been miserable. Professor Hayes isn't good at teaching anything. He tends to write stuff on the board and expect you to figure it out and gives you homework even if you didn't understand anything from class. I learned more from Google than this professor. This class wasn't difficult just be sure to try to understand.
I am so bad at Math and I don't like it at all but after taking the class with professor Hayes, I love it. He made everything so easy, and it was fun solving math problems. You can ask him for help during midterm and he will help you. No quizzes or homework. Only classwork which is in groups. Will take all of his classes if i could!!
Professor Hayes is a really great math instructor. I never really liked math, however, made me feel like math wasnt so bad after all. Hes really good at explaining things, as well hes very caring because he wants to make sure that his students are successful. Very understanding, very lenient when he knows youre trying. Does offer extra credit.
While attending this class I was worried that I won't get the grade I want due to high school experiences, but after taking Professor Hayes class I feel more confident in taking a math course. Just make sure you do all the homework and come to class. I guarantee that you will pass the class as long as you put the work in.
I struggled with mathimatics thru highschool but Professor Hayes shows extra steps so you don't get lost and clearly explains what steps to do and doesn't move too fast through lecture. I think the online homework and written homework I didn't like but because I did them I think it was very beneficial.
Mans has some of the hardest tests I've ever taken in my life. Lots of his questions are about Why. Every question on his tests basically needs an explanation about why that's the answer, just showing that you know how to do the math isn't good enough. Not to mention, only gave mid term and final as test and they made up 60% of our grade!!!
Professor Hayes has extremely hard tests that to not match the difficulty level of class and homework. When answerinf students questions he is often not helpful and seems annoyed to have to explain. Overall would not recommend
Such a caring and generally great professor. He was the only class I had that required attendance, but I actually looked forward to this class. His personality is great and he puts in the work to make sure you understand. All of the work is group work, and you have all day to turn it in. I highly recommend taking this class.
There are no exams because of the COVID19 which makes the course structered differently. Graded purely on 22 different oral quizzes. I stopped attending class bc it was such an easy course.
very layed back and easy class
three midterms and no final. we get to work together on the midterms over the course of five days which honestly is pretty generous. the midterms only have five questions lol
he said the midterm was going to be like the quizzes and yes it was but also the midterm was similar to random pieses of lecture.
fair but extremely hard like we had 2hours for our final but it was extremely hard. make sure to study the quizzes!!!!!!!!
Gave an assessment on the first day. Professor does not beat around the bush so you better work hard if you wanna do well in the class.
He's a chill person overall and is mostly thorough in his lectures. His grading is weird, it seems that points are taken at random values with no real explanation as to why they were removed. He will make no annotations on assignments; you have to go to him on your own. Show every step in every problem or he'll immediately accuse you of cheating.
Worst professor I had in the math department. Lots of pop quizzes and he grades super hard with no explanation on why points are taken away. Due dates are odd. Lectures were ok, but not the best. Must show every step otherwise he will immediately accuse you of cheating. Grades were hidden so you will have to calculate that on your own.
Lots of homework and lots of pop quizzes. VERY TOUGH GRADER. he adds problems a day before the due date which is annoying. Lectures were hard to grasp, had to seek outside help. Accused me of cheating because I used a different method to solve a problem and will test you orally on how to solve problems if this does happen.
Chill guy but harsh grader. He took off points and did not explain why. Grading scale are very big numbers midterms are worth 500 and homework/quizzes worth 100. If you do bad on a midterm, you will need to focus up on trying to pass. Will also not reopen quiz submissions. Bad professor overall. Wish I took another professor, wasted semester.
Not a good professor, lectures were mid and he is a harsh grader like everyone says he is. He is a cool guy, but I wouldn't take him again. He will encourage students to solve the problem and will not move on until done, also gets tilted when students don't understand.
He's a super sweet and passionate professor. Brings a bunch of his personality into his classes which makes the online lectures actually bearable. Not a crazy amount of homework or quizzes. Midterms and tests are not insane. You just have to try and you will pass.
Most engaging professor I had so far and tries to talk with students and make them feel comfortable. Really chill and laidback and his lectures are easy to understand. Makes math more enjoyable.
Prof. Hayes was OK. Lectures were ok and sometimes he made sure to stop and see if anyone has questions. However, sometimes will not show a full step, so that's where it can throw you off. Grading scale is big. Due dates are weird, but managable. No reopens for assignments. I would say he is responsive to his emails 50/50. Cool guy though.
Very difficult class and inconsistent when it comes to assignments. Does not give feedback on exams and even changed one of my assignment grades from 100% to 0 for no reason. Gives little time to complete pop quizzes and warm ups. Has very weird and short deadlines for homework, quizzes and exams. Students had trouble submitting papers on time.
Very hard instructor, but also a very hard class. Pop quizzes are unannounced and sometimes difficult. Does not give feedback to work unless you ask for it but solutions to homework and quizzes and midterms are posted a few days later.
lectures are super fastpaced and has little time to go over every step. Sometimes stops halfway through a problem and says 'This is the answer, but you to finish it on your own. The rest is just algebra.' always willing to help when you come to office hours when there is more time. ngl very chill guy but also very tough.
2nd time taking class. he is freindly in Zoom but sometimes harsh with grading. clear lectures but hard midterms.
mised submitting my midterm #3 online on Friday by a few minutes and his syllabus said he doesnt take late submissions. I asked the following Monday if I could submit and he took it!!!!! no point deductions still got a 77% but still better than 0% lol
professor Travis the greater professor i have right now i did not understand calc2 the first time i took it but now it makes a little bit more sense i hope i pass. hard quizzes and doesnt always post solutions sometimes
i withdrew from this class after the first midterm but only because my dad got sick which meant i had to start taking care of him instead of college. his lectures were very clear and he sets you up for the midterms but that doesnt mean the midterms are easy the one I took was very hard.
very difficult and very fast class. not many office hours either.
definitely makes you work for your grade. dont take this class if you are looking for an easy A, take someone else. lots of homework
went into the final with an 88%, walked out with a 91%. Extremely hard exams!! but will give lots of partial credit if you understand the concepts
Prof. Hayes is not the one for you if you want an easy A. He takes attendance, gives pop quizzes, gives a ton of homework and prepares tough midterms that sometimes throw him himself off. If you work for it, you can do decent. Almost feels like he enjoys assigning work that others will struggle with even though he struggles himself. Cool guy though
he makes us do a LOT of work. warm up problems, practice problems, exit slip problems. LOTS OF IN CLASS WORK. he will does one example, then gives us 3-5 for us to do. calls on random students so be ready! I just got back my midterm and got an A. and it was LONG but EASY if you do the work. was basically repeat problems of what we do in class.
Only the 2nd day of class, but hes only done 1 integral problem and no review. he made us do the other problems on our own. definitely is pushing us to perform
this is my 3rd semester taking calc2 and its finally making sense. these problems made no sense with another prof but he makes it at least partially understandable. Today we did a single partial fraction decomp that took 25 minutes!! the other professors i have taken made those problems seem so difficult but their doable with him. Still hard though
Super cool guy, but I took way too many units this semester. Hopefully he teachers precalc agin next semester.
He is late to class almost every day. Final exam was exactly what he said it was ngl easiest class all semester.
its december 22nd and he hasnt posted grades yet. also hasnt answered any of my emails since last week. I JUST WANT TO KNOW IF I PASSED SO I CAN REGISTER FOR NEXT SEMESTER
Update: Passed!
Very good professor for calc classes. Breaks problems down as much as possible for easy understanding. Answers any questions about work to ease confusion. Weekly quizzes and 3 midterms, no plot twists, straight to the point; usually uses questions from homework or similar to class examples. Attend lectures to understand concepts, not hard at all!!
He literally asked us to tell him what topics to put on the exam. We literally told him which 5 topics we wanted on the exam and he put those exact topics on the exam. Literally the easiest class i have all semester.
tuesday lecture + thursday practice problems
Great professor overall, lax environment, casual attitude. Homework every week, but relevant to material taught. Quizzes should be worth more imo (were weighted same as HW). Midterms are seriously difficult, but it does ensure whether you grasp the concepts or not. If you want to pass, attend lecture.
One of the best math prof. I've taken. He's funny and knows how to teach the material pretty well in my opinion. Definitely would have to study for exams but they're straightforwardish and uses stuff from lecture.
Unreasonable to learn that much content in a six week summer course waste of time
hes kinda mean and also kinda nice idk
syllabis says no late work for any reason but I asked and he let me take a quiz a week later and also lets you turn in homework late if you ask within reason
he tells you what will be on the midterm during the review day you just need to know what questions to ask him. learn his style and it's a cakewalk. can be rude sometimes though
best math professor ive ever had. Took precalc in 2021 to DE this semester with him. Had a horrible experience with another prof so i retook precalc with him and i learned much better and did much better. Decided to stay with him thru DE and im glad i did. Got only A's or A- from precalc to DE. seriously enroll with this professor hes the best.
He is very straight forward and is good at explaining things but he needs to work on everything else.
Other than sometimes making problems up for practice or quizzes that don't work hes a great professor
Travis is a really good professor although his teaching style may be unorthodox. Class was pretty easy and chill. Quizzes every week where he just makes up some questions on the spot. Basically no homework, its just on ALEKs every week
most straightforward exams ever
He's a good professor but he's holding himself back from being the best
He assigns homework but doesn't collect it. Everyone gets full credit on homework even if you dont do it
First day in class and the first thing he says is that he failed 20 students last time and that he doesn't care so that was a great first impression. Second day in he forgot to give us a diagnostic exam so he gave us that AND ANOTHER QUIZ on top of that, he had the audacity to give us a lecture 15 mins before class ended. Very casual though.
if you study his star problems you will get a good grade on his exams
Be ready to do some work in class. he;ll lecture for 20 minutes and have us do practice problems for the last 30 minutes. Make friends and you'll be fine.
He is rude to everyone and then expects people to participate and cooperate. Easy class tho
I came here to see what other people thought of him: I agree with most of the things being said. ngl he's is rude as hell but it's hilarious.
Funniest professor ever. I wish I had him for calc2 this semester but his class didn't work with my schedule.
He is often 1-2 minutes late to class. He also sometimes cancels class for his own personal gain like for long weekends or weddings but with that said he's a raelly good professor. He makes you do a lot of work on your own but honestly it is really helping me.
Calc2 is the hardest class i've ever taken. I failed out of calc2 last semester and he was the only class that worked with my schedule. A big difference between how he does calc2 is that he shows us how to do one problem MAYBE and he leaves the rest up to us to figure out. It's really hard but it helped me learn how to do the problems on my own.
He pretends to be mean but if u stick around until after week 2 he turns nice
This is my second time taking Calculus II and he is by far one of the best professors at teaching Calculus. Unlike most professors that just lecture the entire time, he does the problems with you. There are maybe 1-2 quizes a week but they're always straight forward and are usually from the homework. He gets to know the class and jokes often.
He is very sturn and harsh but despite what others say this professor cares a LOT. He does NOT show that he cares in class but he will go the extra mile to help you pass if you reach out to him.
You'll do fine in this class if you are a hard worker. Professor Hayes comes off as rude but he's pretty funny too and is pretty willing to help you out. Just give a decent effort. Make sure to make some friends in that class. The ones who won't do well are people who are lazy and have a victim mindset.
Best math professor I've had. He gives many opportunities to improve your grade if he sees you're putting effort into the class. Homework is not a mandatory grade, he'll give you a 100 whether you turn it in or not but it's encouraged to do it because he takes questions directly from the homework for quizzes and tests.
The goat math professor
vvv the goat.
I took his final today. He is definitely the G.O.A.T. like everyone says . he just took problems from previous midterms and put them on his final.
YESSSSS THE GOAT.
He is definitely not the GOAT, but is really really good. big emphasis of 'your responsible for your own grade' so be ready to work.
took him for calc 2. dont expect to pass if you struggled with calc 1. class gets pretty abstract towards the middle when you shift from integration to series. there's a reason so many people retake the class hayes might seem a little obnoxious but he cares about his students and is a pretty lenient grader. wish i could take him again for calc 3
Definitely the GOAT. I had no right to pass but he makes this extremely hard class very manageable.
Math10 is already a piece of cake, and he makes sure that it stays that way as simple as possible. Don't bother buying xyzhomework. Just do the work he gives you in class and you'll be fine. He didn't accept my classwork packet because it wasn't stapled, but it's only worth like 2% of your grade so i didn't really care haha
he's an actual person and not a stiff emotionless professor
Solid professor, ridiculously fast grader, highly recommend. There are weekly quizzes that help you better learn the material. Maximize your points through showing understanding. Don't be a dumb dumb.
At first, terrifying. Later on, he's a pretty chill diva. He has his silly moments but he truly does care. Be sure to take note of everything on the whiteboard, everything he says. There are about 15 quizzes but it depends. Memorize and learn how to factor and how to solve linear equations. Ice Cube is the best. :)
Hands down the absolute best calc2 professor at CSUS. He'll call you out if you don't do your work, but that's on you. High expectations, but very fair. 6-of-5 stars if i could.
Bro, Professor Hayes is the coolest teacher I've ever had in my life hes chill, gives great lectures, cares about his students. makes sure he helps us prep for quiz and midterm. with that being said you still have to put in the work, but if he sees you trying he wont let you down. would recommend 10/10 best math teacher and the mf GOAT
