Heggie is a really great professor, he goes out of his way to help his students, especially when it comes to finding internships. He has SO MANY connections and is willing to do whatever he can to get you the internship you want. As long as you show up to class and participate he'll give you the grade you want. Reading the text is crucial for tests
Good class with a dynamic professor. He has book smarts but also has a ton of outside experience. Is very pro-students in most situations. Take good notes, attend class, and do your readings - and you will get a good grade.
I am in TLEP 4840 - Current Issues right now. I love the textbook and Prof. Heggie is even better. Best class I've had at BGSU. Just wish it didn't take me 4 years to find it.
This class can be interesting at times but I really dont like travis that much. he makes jokes that arent funny and hassels students. He does cancle class ALOT
This was my favorite class of the semester. Heggie is very smart and most helpful. The trick is to go to class and do your readings.
Literally the worst professor I have ever encountered. Doesn't know how to keep in contact through email and makes terrible jokes more than he teaches. I learned nothing.
I loved this class and like Dr. T a lot. Warning: it is not an easy class which is why people on this list are complaining. If only they would study.
This was an easy class if you just study and go to class.
This was an awesome class. I loved how Travis would give a couple lectures and then drive home his point using a movie from Netflix. Yes, I said Netflix. The Australian flick was great but the South African one was a tear jerker.
Travis doesn't just teach class he takes you on adventures! He has you read articles about a location and then follows up with lectures / slides of places he has been and is knowledgeable of. A great addition to the TLEP faculty. I highly recommend taking as many classes you can with him.
To describe this class with Dr. T is to think of one big virtual adventure that starts over again ever other week. Most classes are boring but this class had me looking foward to attending class. I even stopped drinking Wednesday night! Good professor, great class, just make sure you go to class or else.
I'm in Dr. T's Hawaii and South Pacific summer class right now and absolutely love the course. It is by far the best class I've taken at BGSU and I rank Dr. T as one of the two best professors I've had in my 3.5 years of college.
I have take three classes from Dr. T. I only managed a B grade in 4840 but it was by far the best class I have ever taken. Get him talking about Africa, rare diseases and tourists getting hurt and he will talk forever. His tests are all open answer short essay questions so take good notes. There are no multiple choice exams in his class.
I loved the class. Make sure you go to class and if he tells you to read then make sure you read the assignment. Also is very approachable for advising outside of class.
I have taken 2 courses from Heggie and he is one of my favorite professors. His 4840 class is the best of what he teaches. It made me want to go everywhere and do everything as long as I had a business plan. Take his class - No hesitation
Good class. I recommend Dr. T to anyone. He is also an awesome advisor.
I took the summer Hawaii and Pacific class from Dr. T. He made learning fun (I didn't mind reading 1-2 hours a night for his assignments) and he obviously knows his stuff from personal experience.
I enjoy his teaching and found his exams to be easy once I figured out he never gives multiple choice. He prefers open answers and it helped me better explain my answers. Overall the class exposed me to a big blue world.
Take Dr. T's class. I did the summer current issues class and liked it a lot. The class structure, discussions, and material was exciting. No complaints from me.
Good professor. Entertaining lecturer and good advisor. No complaints.
I like Dr. T a lot. Do well in his class and he gives good job references. After my internship this summer he helped me get hired by the Cleveland Indians.
I like Dr. Heggie a lot. I spent 4.5 years at BGSU and he is one of my favorite 3 professors. If you listen to him you will learn a lot. He was a good job reference for me too.
I had 2 classes with Dr. T last year and learned a ton in both of them. He supervised my internship this summer and gave me a lot of good pointers and help. He is one of the better profs at BG. The main thing is to do your share of the work.
If you have the chance to take his class you should do it. It is rare to find a prof like him. Don't screw around because he will fail you.
why do they list him as Recreational Therapy? What is that anyway?
His exams can be challenging but overall he is one of the better profs I have had. Class lecture is usually excellent. Do not skip class.
Without a doubt he is one of the best profs at BGSU. His lectures are incredible. One week you are in Hawaii via virtual lectures. Next week is Africa. Then Australia. Just make sure you do your reading and keep us.
His lectures on legal liability, finance, and risk management are best. I highly recommend him.
He failed three people and gave out several D's this semester. BUT, if you are willing to read, actually study, and come to class he is absolutely awesome. Several of us nominated him for the Master Teacher Award.
I've taken three classes from Dr. T and loved each of them. He does use his textbooks and supplements them with other readings and assignments. You will also need to study. If you do not study you will get creamed on his exams. No word banks or multiple choice. He's very approachable outside of class.
His exams kill me but I learn a lot in his classes. He has helped me a lot with my career direction and getting an excellent internship. Go to class and pay attention to every detail.
Awesome teacher - totally knows his stuff and gives a lot of his travel experiences which make the class super interesting. Pretty funny and has been pretty much everywhere. Attendance is not taken daily but his tests have a lot of things he mentions in class that you wouldn't know otherwise.
I saw him on tv in Europe last semester and decided to take his class. I'm glad I did and wish I was not graduating so I could take another class from him. If you go to class, listen closely, and study you should do good. I was amazed at how many students weren't doing this.
Just finished TLEP 2100 and 4150. Two of my favorite classes in college. Excellent professor who knows what he is talking about. Easy A's if you read and study.
I'm taking his summer online class right now and it is incredible. He ties the reading material into his travels and it makes the course feel so real. Like I am with him in Cyprus and Greece. Excellent teaching style.
Just finished the online current issues class. Not sure where he was in the world (like a few different countries) but he was on there helping us learn every day. Real good class with a lot of customer service and real world settings. Thanks Dr. T.
TLEP 3950 - Summer - Take this class! Awesome virtual travel for only the price of tuition. My FAVORITE class ever at BGSU.
This was my last class in college and it was my favorite class in college. I liked his focus on tangible skills. The finance section was a pain but worth it. The legal section was incredible. I recommend him highly.
Take this class! It was very informative. This was my first class with Dr. Heggie and I loved the global perspective. I worked in Europe the previous two summers and everything he said is dead on correct.
I did an independent studies with Dr. T. He had me read this heavy 6 inch thick wilderness medicine textbook. I didn't understand much at first but he explained every in detail. I never expected a professor to spend this much time with me but he obviously likes the topic. I'm convinced about grad school now.
I did an independent study with Dr. T. on Travel Medicine. I wasn't sure what to expect at first but it turned out awesome. Having the time to work one on one with a professor on his research topic was incredible. I may ask him to be my masters degree advisor.
Dr. T is my academic advisor. I was lost at BGSU before I found him. In the classroom he is exciting and very fair. He does expect you to read and participate in class. If you are lazy and don't study - he has failed two of my friends.
T. Heggie Is without a doubt awesome. He is my advisor and was a professor of mine last semester for TLEP 2100. He is willing to help anyone out at anytime. Do not be foolish though. You still have to earn your grade in his classes. I can honestly say that he is the best professor I have ever had and I would highly recommend him to anyone.
I took TLEP 2100 with Travis last semester and loved it. I bombed the 1st exam but caught on for the next exams. It was an exciting class and he is a good teacher. He knows his topic and lives it too. Very high quality.
Excellent class. Dr. Heggie was entertaining and educational at the same time. His virtual tours were my favorite. I wanted to go to class to see what part of the world we'd be exploring. He is also very approachable and open to mentoring.
A good class to take. Pay attention in class and to his stories because even his stories are incorporated into his exams. You have to earn your grade and will not cut you a lot of slack.
Travis is a good professor. Any class he teaches is a good one. What I like the most about him is his ADVISING. He worked magic and really helped me out. I would have been lost at BGSU without his help.
Dr. Heggie is a good professor. Even though I received a B in the class I learned a ton. It was obvious he cared about students and our learning. I would take another class from him because he knows his material and brings his real-life experience into lecture.
This was a hard class. Travis demands a lot from students compared to other BG professors. He also knows more than other profs. Travis is fair and you can learn a lot from him. My advice is to go to class and make sure you do all the class assignments.
This was one of those classes where I wanted to go to class. Dr. Travis is an excellent instructor and wants to help students. It was a demanding class to the point I had to keep up with lecture notes and reading. Other than that it was an incredible global education. Africa, Hawaii, Europe, more Africa, South Pacific, Thailand, Greece.
In this class Dr. Travis focused on research methods. He has you read his research papers at the beginning and explains everything in detail. This helped my confidence grow in the class. Plus, his research is kool stuff. Don't go slack or your grades will fall off. He expects high standards but is still one of the best profs at BGSU.
I just finished TLEP 2100 with Dr. Travis and loved the class. Who thought education could be so fun. He kicked my butt on the first two exams but once you figure out the airport and airline codes, motivations and barriers, and to TAKE NOTES and not miss class, you should be okay. He's a very good professor and equally good advisor.
I like him. Good professor and student friendly. I decided to become a TLEP major because of this class. Don't skip class.
I just completed the cruise ship tourism / current issues class. The readings were easy to read and the pace of the class was good. I learned a lot about the cruise industry that I feel is useful.
I loved this class. I wanted to go to class because it was the only interesting class I had all semester. Travis speaks English which you will appreciate in TLEP. He is also helpful and interesting. When my mom wanted to visit class he let her and involved her. It was funny. Don't give him lame excuses and go to class.
Most lectures are interesting and relate to the textbook one way or another. Really nice guy. Very approachable. Make sure you study and know the airport codes.
Really interesting. Very helpful. Inspires people that are in the TLEP major.
Travis is a really good professor. He is funny and his lectures are always interesting. The best part is, he always lets his class out early. Take him he is very cool and knows what he is talking about.
My friend and I just finished this amazing class. Lectures were mostly incredible and he cares about students. He wants us to learn without killing us.
I loved this class & highly recommend Travis as a professor. He is more interested in student learning than grading us tough. His lectures are almost always interesting but you do have to study. Know your national airlines, airport codes, travel motives, and travel barriers. Also, his favorite car is a RED FERRARI - it's a test question.
He's an awesome teacher and his stories were fun to hear. Just make sure you memorize airport codes! He's big on those for tests!
If you want to travel for free & learn everything about the world? If you do you need to take a class with Dr. Travis. He's a walking National Geographic and has been everywhere. Very friendly and approachable. Also wants to help students. If you want a decent grade make sure you go to class and read the textbook chapters he assigns.
You won't be bored. Sometimes he stands and lectures; other times he sits amongst us and talks the lecture like we are all old friends of his. This class and professor is the best kept secret at BGSU. Pay attention and listen closely because Dr. Travis tells you exactly what you need to know. I'm taking him again next semester.
I would take this class again. Dr. Travis has a good teaching style and he has had some incredible experiences outside of being a professor. He won't just teach from a textbook; you learn from his experience and the textbook. This was my freshmen year and I learned if you miss his class you are missing test material. Inspiring Professor.
Good class and good instructor. He makes you want to attend class unlike my boring econ class with Andrea. He is easy to understand and is genuinely concerned about student learning instead of killing us with grades like the business school. I'm switching my major.
This was my favorite class of the semester. Chemistry was boring; Dr. Heggie's class made me want to attend class. Don't miss lecture or you'll get behind. One thing I like about Dr. Heggie is he will help you with advising. Even if you are not in his major he will help you. I will take his other class in the fall. On of the best at BGSU.
Take this class from Travis. It was my favorite class this semester. You will want to attend class because he takes you all over the world in detail every lecture. He is a very approachable student-friendly professor. He helped me with advising and I'm not in his major. Good man - awesome class.
I miss this class. The semester ended three weeks ago and I know it is weird but I miss this class. Travis is a real good professor. Most lectures are inspiring and if you do the work (attend class and make an effort) he will reward you.
Take this class. Take any class you can from him. I've had two classes and both were good. 2100 had me wanting to go to class. Buy the textbook because you will need it but his lectures are incredible. I want to travel everywhere now. Dr Travis is very personable. He is willing to advise you if you need. Made my semester.
This course changed my view about the world. I have gained so much knowledge because of the experiences Travis shares with us. The material covered was really informational and is making me think of changing my major. Travis is also a good source of help. I struggled at the start of class but he really helped. I personally give him 5 stars.
I really enjoyed this class even though I am not a TLEP major. The class was very interesting & I liked learning about each of the countries. The most enjoyable is his personal stories and real life experiences. He knows his stuff. If you read this, Dr. Heggie thank you for such a great class in my last semester at BGSU!!
I completed TLEP 4840. Going in I didn't know what to expect. Coming out I know everything about the cruise industry including the norovirus and crimes on different cruise ships. Travis supplemented our textbook reading with a lot of interesting on-line discussions and videos. This is a worthwhile class.
"Cruise ships are floating vectors of disease." That's my favorite quote from this class. I learned a ton about cruising & absolutely loved it. The good and the bad of the industry. Travis has you read a lot of additional info about cruises and its absolutely worth it. p.s. his fav cruise line is Seabourn - Mediterranean.
Travis is amazing. I have loved all of his classes. I have never been bored in any of his lectures. My favorite is the transmission of diseases from eating bushmeat in Africa. Forget endangered species. Disease transmission from animals to humans caught my attention.
I enjoyed this class with Travis. It is different from 2100 because we read much of his research in 3840. In my eyes he evolved from a travel junkie to a scientist travel junkie. Class is one evening a week. He doesn't take attendance but missed class is missed exam material. Same as 2100 and 4840 in that respect.
Travis has a humor that takes some getting used to. He is very knowledgable and has a passion for travel. If it even slightly interests you, I would take this class. If you do the reading and show up to class, the tests are easy to pass or even ace. If possible I would take this class again.
Class with Dr. Travis is fun. His lectures are never be boring & if you listen closely he is telling you exactly what will be on his exams. The other night he came into class & randomly taught us how to safely cross rivers and how to remove leeches from our skin should we ever need to do so. I will take every class I can from him.
Literally, the best teacher I have ever had. Even if tourism is not your major, he will help you with scheduling, finding classes, and graduating early! I recommend his classes to everyone. You will never find a better teacher than him!
Someone below said it perfectly. In 2100 we see Travis as a global travel junkie with a lot of knowledge about the world. In 3840 we see Travis the researcher and read his research. I did a google scholar search on him and it was impressive. He has professional experience and likes us students.
This was a night class but it was a good night class. Travis speaks English as a first language (thank you BG) and is entertaining. The class covered endangered species, nature-based tourism, and national parks. There is one group project he grades tough on. The two exams were tough but if you study you're okay. Don't skip or give him bs.
I didn't think I would like this class but took it because 3250 isn't offered anymore. In the end I really enjoyed the class. We covered everything from National Parks and Protected areas in Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and the U.S. Endangered species and his research too. Travis makes the class interesting and he is very fair to everyone.
Travis is such a great guy. He is extremely personable and the experiences he shares with the class truly make you want to travel the world. He is so interesting and made me want to go to class because every story he told either kept you laughing, nervous, or you wanted to know more about his adventurous life.
Dude. I'm only a freshman but I can tell a good professor when I see one. Lectures by Travis are the best. Always interesting and he's willing to help students. Learning (not beating you up for grades) is his priority - he said it all semester. Do not skip class. Guaranteed every lecture and chapter is exam material.
Take any class you can with Dr. T. Go to class - Don't skip lecture. Go to him for advising too. He's made my time at BG worth it.
This was my 2nd class with Travis. Be at lecture! Ours was once a week Wed. night. If you miss one week then you're missing a lot of information for the exam. You will pay the price. Otherwise it is typical Travis. His real-world experience makes his lectures the best. He gives you all the readings for class so no textbook to buy.
This was my favorite class of the semester. Travis usually has good classes. This class focused on a lot of federal laws and things like the endangered species act, national parks, law enforcement and so on. It may sound boring but he made it fun to learn. It was a night class but do not skip. He gives you the readings - no textbook.
I like every class with Travis. This semester I saw him change from a travel junkie in 2100 to a travel junkie scientist in 3840. The class begins with a section on research methods - he teachs it well. Then you begin reading and discussing his and others research. I liked it because I knew I was learning from a world class scientist.
I like Travis and loved this class. I only missed one class because I was ill. Otherwise I wanted to go to class. Every day was a new adventure. How many courses can we say this about at BGSU? Not many. He is very straight forward about what he wants you to know for the exams. If you listen and take notes, you should do good.
This was a research methods course with Dr. Travis. We used a lot of examples and studies from his own research in Travel Medicine. Travis made the methods & statistics easy and fun to understand. He introduced us to his colleagues in Australia & Germany who gave us guest lectures. It was awesome. I would take any class with Travis.
I enjoyed this class with Dr. Heggie. It was informative about everything. You must go to class or you'll not do well on exams but he does give us every opportunity. I like his friendly, approachable style of teaching. His lectures are incredible as he draws on a lot of personal experience and he always drives the main points home.
Travis saved my semester. Honestly, I never expected a professor to be this caring. I lost my mother in February and Travis surprised me by showing up at the funeral. When I was struggling with grief, he would talk me through it. I appreciate this man. Any class from he or Greg is an awesome experience. If you read this - thank you Professor.
I loved Travis' class! He really cares about his students and wants everyone to learn. At the end of the semester I was at a high B and he asked if I ever skipped a class. I told him no because I was terrified to. (If you miss a class good luck catching up.) But he worked with me and I ended with an A for the class. I plan to take another class!
I liked this class. It was a typical Travis class that was always interesting and his exam style is similar to 2100. The group project is worth as much as an exam so don't slack off. I had to work hard for my grade but still liked the class. He is helpful and always there to answer questions.
I like Travis. Most his lectures are dynamic and exciting and he's is very approachable. Do your reading, do not come to class late, and put your phones away. He gives pop quizzes if enough people have not read or are absent. His exams are easy if you clue into what he's telling you and he tells you exactly what to expect.
Very educational . Every class is a new experience. Attending class and reading is key. Know the chapter motives and codes.
He cares about you as a student and a person. Other students told me about Travis and they were right. Visit his office it is very cool.
This class is tougher than his 2100 class but I came away with a detailed understanding of the cruise industry. Travis calls cruiselines "floating vectors of disease" and proves it. Yet he helps you learn what you need to know. Just over a month after this class I was hired to work public relations with Norweigan Cruiselines. Thanks Professor.
Attend class and take good notes. If you study it's an easy B. Travis lectures are fun but don't forget taking notes because everything is on the exams. Otherwise "wow, you'll travel all over the world and learn."
He's an overall really awesome teacher. I really liked his class because he was teaching us using his own personal experiences in his lectures, which really helps make the class more engaging. He's a cool guy and as long as you do the work, it's an easy and fun class. He doesn't really give out homework or have a lot of assignments.
Go to lecture. Don't skip because lextures include a lot of supplementary info to the textbook. To me Travis is a motivational professor full of knowledge. Our virtual field trips were the best.
Have you ever wanted to take a class from Indiana Jones? If so, take a class from Travis. Every class is exiting and in a different part of the world. He's. Been everywhere and it shows in his lectures. Africa, Europe, Asia, and the Pacific. Has a fun sense of humor.
I'm a business major & took this class out of interest. It is indeed a good class & Travis teaches a lot of business / management concepts. Lectures are awesome and you will travel. The key is to not skip class and don't be fooled by Travis being a fun professor. His exams can be difficult if you're not paying attention.
Take this class. It is the most interesting class I have taken in college. Plus, Dr. T will help you. Go to his office hours and ask for advice. I told him I was struggling in my biology and anatomy class and he turned around and ran tutoring sessions for me. Literally saved my semester. I had no clue he knew all this stuff.
This is a good class. Lecture is fun and he is clear on what to expect on exams. It felt like a senior level class with all the geography and travel but I loved it. He is one of the top two profs I've had at BGSU.
I like Heggie for any class. He is entertaining but is also the only TLEP professor with experience. In 3840 it's one work adventure after another. Heavy reading at times and if the class hasn't read, he'll make you read paragraph by paragraph. Learned tons.
Best class I took in 2 years. The other tlep professors bite so enjoy Travis. I went into the class with the travel bug and came out with a worse case. Would take again if I could.
Anyone trashing Travis and his class is probably lazy, never studied, or skipped class. Several girls in my 9:30 am class were like this. The guy is amazing. His lectures have inspired me in my career direction and he has met with me several times outside of class to discuss job strategies. He's one of the best professors at BGSU.
I like Travis. His lectures are almost always exciting. I read the scheduled chapters for each day which made it easy to learn from the lectures. He will take time to visit with you after class or in his office. Ask him about jobs because he knows where to get them most of the time. The people I see failing class are the ones who skip class.
I like Travis. You will need the textbook for the class. He does use the textbook and adds to it with some fun lectures. We had 4 exams and a paper for the class. He tries to prepare you for the exam and will give you the benefit of the doubt. Don't skip class. I put him in the top % of profs at BG. Will take him again if I can.
I took 2100 with Travis and loved it. Two of the tests were hard but he went easy on us with grades. He's much more fair than other profs. I love the textbook he uses. The only way I see someone failing this class is if they skip class. It was a fun class that I looked forward to attending.
I loved this class. The way to fail a Heggie class is to skip class. Otherwise, be there and you'll be okay. Get ready to travel the world without leaving the classroom!
I took 2100 with Travis. He told us he wanted us at class and to learn and he meant it. He made me want to come to class. As someone said below, get ready to travel without leaving the classroom!
I enjoyed this class. Travis gave us the readings and was flexible with our assignments. The perfect summer class. Loved the cruising.
Take this class in the summer with Travis. I didn't think I would learn much since I don't like cruising but it turned out real good. Travis was my first class at BG and this with him was my last. He is my favorite in TLEP and BGSU. Hint: he likes river cruises. Less disease and injury LOL.
Travis is awesome for every class. Easily my favorite professor at BGSU. He made learning fun. I'd describe it as business, medicine, and adventure. He speaks English as a first language even though his name looks foreign. Other TLEP teachers do not. This class had a lot about cruise ships but I know he changes it up.
Lose this guy as a professor and adviser. He knows his stuff and has real-world experience. Show up to class and you will do fine if you work at it.
Travis is hilarious. 1st day of class he brings in a huge cheerleading megaphone and uses it all class. 2nd day he brings it again but doesn't use it. We all stare at it and wonder. Never see it again but the bonus question on the final is: what color was the megaphone? Awesome professor - take his classes! You will learn a lot!
I love Travis! This is the third class I have taken with him. He has real-world experience and loves to share photos and stories from his travels with us. He wants to see you succeed and will tell you exactly what will be on the exams in all of his classes. Sometimes they are even take home exams!
I loved this class with Travis. He is very helpful outside the classroom. Made my semester.
Fun class full of energy. Much better than taking Class with Tracy Zappone
He's honestly a great teacher. This is the second class I've had with him, and he's really nice if you show up to class and attempt to pay attention. He doesn't like when students use laptops, so use a notebook if possible.
Travis helped me through my time at BG as a TLEP student more than anyone. He was so inspirational and insightful and even though I am an alum I still miss his classes and witty humor!!!
Highly recommend taking any class with Travis!! I absolutely loved going to class and listening to his lectures, if your really interested in travel this is the class for you, he's been all over the world so he knows what he's talking about. Its pretty easy to get a good grade in this class if you show up to lectures and study for the tests.
I loved all the classes taught by Travis. He is the one who inspired me and helped me all the way though until I graduated.
By far the best professor I had at BGSU. Recommend every class he teaches. Travis will go the extra mile for students. He was a job reference for me for my internship and job. My boss said it was his input that got me hired! Thanks professor! Enjoy Africa and your red Ferrari!
He knows every major resort and cruise line in the world. Incredible lectures every day. My favorite in TLEP.
Incredible hotels in Greece, lodges in Africa, airlines and airport codes - take this class. Best professor at BGSU. p.s. - the bonus question for Monaco is a red Ferrari.
I went to class every Monday night for two semesters. I wanted to there. His lectures are full of so much information. Travis was worth my tuition.
I recommend any class with Travis. He teaches at a higher level than any other prof Ive had a BG. His lectures are like doing drugs without the drugs. Every lecture is a new high. He also helped me get into the Marriott management training program. Thank you professor.
This was my favorite class in college. I respect Travis because he cares about us as students and his lectures are entertaining. He follows the textbook but adds his own experience to it.
Travis is by far my favorite professor at Bowling Green. Hes super helpful with guiding students towards their dream career path and truly cares about his students.
My advice: 1) Take every Travis class you can. You will like them all. 2) lectures are incredible so dont skip them. 3) Talk to him so he knows you. He might take you one one of his Africa trips. He did that for me and it changed my life.
Class with Travis is the best. By far he is the best experience I have had a BG. He can throw a lot of info at you in lecture but will also guide you through it. Excellent advisor too. Actually tutored me in biology when I needed help and I got an A on the meiosis and mitosis exam. Just a good guy.
Im a non-major but enjoyed this class. You can tell he enjoys his work. He treats students very fair and speaks English unlike my math and chemistry profs.
Excellent class. It was a Monday night class but one that I wanted to attend. My roommate and I commented how nice it was going to a Travis night class compared to others. There was a lot of info thrown at us in class but Travis explained it well. Id say he likes students and would take another class from him.
His classes are fun and full of applied learning. I was not bored one day. He likes the Mediterranean and youll need to know all the Italian cities and airports.
He mostly lectures on places he has been doing research so you know hes the expect. He also stays behind class to advise students. Most profs cant get outbthe classroom fast enough; Heggie will give you all the time you need.
Travis is an amazing professor. He's honestly one of my favorite. He cares immensely about his students and takes time after every class to help you with anything. He makes you laugh every class and has expert background in what he teaches. His tests include a lot of info from the lectures so you have to show up or you will struggle so don't skip
He is an amazing professor. Uses a lot of his experiences during class and will ask you those questions on the tests some times, so go to class.
One of the best at BGSU. Bring your passport to class because he takes you everywhere. Travis is very fair and cares about students. He also stays after class to answer any questions. I needed help and he spent 30 minutes planning my future. Very popular with the international students. Especially us Saudis.
One of the best profs at BGSU. He covers a lot of material but helps the class prep for the exams. Exams come straight from lecture and the textbook. Lectures are incredible; I never wanted to skip class.
I thought I wouldnt like the class but by week 2 it was my favorite class of the semester.
Have had 3 classes with Travis. Each was my favorite class of the semester. I just graduated and he was key in getting me my job. Very key. In class actually go to class. Listen because he tells you the exam content. Dont skip or lie to him. A cheerleader in class did and I know he failed her.
Loved this class. Get ready to know airport codes. My favs were his Africa lectures. He has more experience than any professor I know. Attendance matters if you want a good grade.
This class was a lot about Hospitality Law, Travel & Hospitality Risk Management, and a whole lot of medical issues. Three exams and two projects. Typical Travis class with amazing lectures. If you dont go to class you wont pass.
My favorite class in college. Travis lectures are one of a kind. They are global for sure. I wanted to attend class. Travis guides you through the exam material so dont miss class. I missed twice and that hurt me on exams.
Amazing lectures. I wanted to go to class. Very fair and helpful. Said a number of times he is more interested in our learning than beating us up over grades. I felt Travis is very fair. Cant wait for his next class.
My favorite class in college so. Lectures are incredible and unlike other profs, Travis knows what he is talking about from his own experience. He is very approachable. Just dont skip class more than three times.
If you get the chance to go to one of his pre-med residency clinics in Africa - GO. I was with him and Kupper watching as they removed 10 ft long tapeworms from locals and tons of jiggers. Completely changed my career direction and medical school.
This was my favorite class in college. I would leave a boring monotone MKT 3000 class and enter a dynamic and class with Travis that literally taught me everything. Listen and dont skip class.
He is definitely a good professor. Makes me uncomfortable for some reason but Ill get over it. Has fun and enjoyable lectures.
Id come from all my boring classes into class with Dr. Heggie and suddenly class is fun, exciting, and Im learning. He went the extra mile to help when I was out sick. He cares about student learning and will do advising sessions with you right after class.
Took a Field Medicine course from Dr Heggie in Aachen, Germany and then came back and took this class. The man is a wealth of knowledge you wont get from a textbook. Going into General Surgery now and wont ever forget his tourism and suture tie off procedures.
Travis took me to Africa with his Medical Corps group. He taught me have to cut sand fleas off of peoples hands and feet. Also taught me how to open and close on basic surgeries. We did take time to learn the tourism dynamics and safari trends in the are. Excellent Professor.
Want to go to medical school or in some other profession direction? I recommend Dr. Heggie. He taught a Desert Medicine course that changed my life and career. Heavy emphasis on Namibia, part of the Sahara, and a lot of Arabia. Loved it. Just dont skip class or youll get behind quickly.
The guy is a master at what he does. He will talk to you more as a peer or a friend that as a student. He has the fastest clamp Ive ever seen, can find any parasite faster than anyone, and can suture with no scar.
Super fun professor and the class was simple and relaxed
Travis is one of the best professors I have had. A great guy, stayed after class to talk to him almost every class just to get his input on many topics. Make sure you show up for class every day. There are pop quizzes. They aren't super hard. Overall my favorite class that I have taken at BG so far. You'll want to go to class every day with him!
Dr. Heggie is by far my favorite professor. He has so many amazing stories to tell and wants his students to succeed. There is never a dull moment when Dr. Heggie is teaching. Dr. Heggie has been able to give myself as well as many other students amazing job opportunities that I will forever be grateful for. Just make sure to attend all classes.
travis is a mean person and a awful grader
Travis is a likeable guy, but his personality can be alot. He likes to talk about his own experiences but he does it with good intentions as a way of connecting with his students and making his lecture seem more "real", rather than just words on a screen. You can tell he cares about his students, & he tries to ensure no one is "beat up" by grades.
Travis is a very good teacher! I can not stress this enough - go to class!! Your life will be 100% easier just by showing up to class and he even will give extra credit sometimes to those who show up.
Travis is not only helpful inside the classroom but is very accessible and helpful outside of class too. He is always willing to fight for you as a student to make sure you are treated fairly. He loves what he does and it shows.
Dr. Heggie is a dynamic lecturer. First lecture of the class he had us up on Mt. Kilimanjaro discussing high altitude sickness. Last lecture he had us in the South Pacific discussing cruise ships and tourism development. Incredible class. He is pro student and will help you with anything - excellent advisor. MAKE SURE YOU ATTEND CLASS.
Very disorganized and unstructured. Lectures were mostly opinion and personal experience. Said nothing outside in-person lectures, including assignments and instructions. Everything was by mouth and unclear. Exams were ultraspecific and unprepared. Classes were easygoing and usually let out early, but expectations were unclear to nonexistent.
Prof Heggie is engaging and passionate, though his personality can be a lot. Attend class, as participation counts. The workload is manageable - the textbook and resources like Unstuck study make studying a breeze. Overall, a enjoyable and rewarding experience.
Travis is fantastic and this class is super easy and is a great short break in your week. It is only one credit and you need to do it anyways as a THEM major! The grades are quick 'reflections' from what you talked about in class that day and are super easy.
Best professor I have had at BGSU. Amazing person and instructor.
One of the best professors I've ever had during the Spring 2025 semester! Just go to class, do the work, and have fun! Easy A!
This class gives you an idea of what you would like to do as an internship. Travis has some students prepare slides and share what they did for their internship. Very few assignments and very easy one credit class.
I just graduated & Travis was my favorite Professor. Go to class. Lectures are obvious and easy to follow. He has worked other jobs and his life experience will come through. Best lecture: the projector was not working one day so Travis taught us how to give someone stitches if we were in the Congo or a desert island. Random topic but awesome.
This is a once a week 3-hour class. If you do not like long classes; don't sign up for it. The professor uses his extensive professional experience to add to the textbook material. The attractions, transportation systems, motivations & misgivings, and map info is all covered in class. Any complaining student obviously has low grades.
