He would stop the prepared lecture and take the time to explain areas of difficulty. He also has a good sense of humor. I had fun in his class, considering I HATE math!
A very enjoyable teacher with a very straightforward class. Loves math and really knows it, too. I took him as a high school senior as part of dual enrollment, and anyone who has taken any sort of higher level math will have no problem in class, but those who struggle with math may not find it as easy. He will always go out of his way to help.
great professor. i really enjoyed his teaching style. he used the book when he felt it explained best and if not he put the chapter into his own words on powerpoint and ensured everyone understood.
Looks like Eric Foremen
Class is about as straight forward as it comes. The material isnt the most exciting, but at least he tries to make the best of it. He hates the florida public school system, but at least hes right...47th or 48th i believe..
great teacher! easy to understand and very helpful
He loves math and is willing to do as much as he can to help students. I was absolutely terrible at math and my A in this class is the first I've had since middle school. He made learning and understanding the material easy and a good grade obtainable. Great guy all around.
Mr. Short is a great stats teacher. Would definatelytake him again for any math class. Teaches easily and needed only a regular calaculator!!! Easy A.
A nice enough person but doesn't really explain well when it comes to trig. Puts the hardest question in homework on the tests although he will curve if many students miss them. He just needs to clarify and explain better.
I didnt find this professor helpful at all. I have never been that great at math but this teacher sped right through everything without throroughly explaining how he got his answers.
Great stats professor. Stats will be hard no matter who teaches it, he can't make you smart. But he will provide all his notes and HW on angel and will teach from them...book is useless. Even though the class is difficult I managed an "A". The best part about his class is that is prepares you for Stats II if you have to take it at a University!
Professor short is a great guy. He's very nice and approachable, but I'm not the best math person so I found stats hard. You'll need to stop him the second you get lost though, because he moves quick if he thinks you get the material. You'll fall behind if you don't ask for an explanation (if you didn't get it the first time).
Very approachable teacher, does not make you feel dumb asking questions, goes through material fast so you do need to ask for explainations, tests can be challenging but just do the homework, show up for class and study you can easily pass, curves grades and always has a positive upbeat attitude which helps the class go by faster cuz its enjoyable.
Mr. Short was very positive and upbeat, sometimes went out on political tangents (which I happened to love)... the material was difficult to me because I'm completely math-illiterate, but he would always offer help to those who needed it. He does FLY through the material, but was always willing to answer questions... He's a cutie...
Guy is really loves teaching Math. He tries his best to make it interesting. Very good teacher all around, I highly recommend taking him.
Professor Short is a very nice guy. The material is hard, especially if youre not good at math. But he tries to make it as understandable as possible. There are 4 tests and a final take home test as well as a cumlative final. Oh, and you do NOT need to buy the book. You never open it once, all his notes are on ANGEL. Highly recommend this teacher.
He's an OK instructor. He gets way off topic rambling about the topic of a word problem than he does actually explaining how to do it. His tests are 1/2 word problems and 1/2 multiple choice. The multiple choice can be a little tricky, but the word problems come straight from the hw and printable notes (you don't need to buy stats book).
I'd rather have rack em rack willy as my instructor. Wasted my time trying to learn this.
The homework worksheets do not correlate to the test. I find my self understanding his hw worksheets, but the tests are just killers. Doesn't even use the book so you can't even try and match up what he is teaching in class to what the book says. Really frustrating and hard to follow.
No one ever knows what he's talking about. he shows examples but never says what exactly your doing. The class as a whole is failing. The tests are impossible and doesn't compare to the HW at all. If you have to take him for stats i'd recommand getting a tutor.
worst professor i have ever had. teaches us material we shouldnt be learning in elementary statistics. tests are nothing like the hw. the entire class is failing. even the tutors cant understand his material.
EXTREMELY knowledgeable teacher. Had him for Pre-Calc Algebra. If you like to take the time to understand the material and it's applications, this is the teacher to pick. Good prep. for future Calc I-III classes. Didn't use book. If you are weak in math, ASK QUESTIONS... those that didn't did poorly.
Don't buy the book I promise you wont need it he doesn't use the book. Also if your not prepared to actaully learn something don't take him! I took stats with another teacher and failing it then took Mr. Short and passed with flying colors, but it takes work you have to pay attention, come to class, and do your homework!
Not exactly happy with this guy. He just kind of runs through example problems, but MISSES to explain little key details that can further mess you up. He really doesn't do much to help make problems easier to understand. I'm sure he is a very smart guy but that doesn't mean he is going to be a GOOD teacher.
If you want to learn and understand mathe, then you should take him. But if you care about grades, then you should not because his tests are very hard and challenging.
Very smart guy! He's always smiling and he has a very good vocabulary. His class was hard. If you're looking for an easy A DON'T take him. No calculators are allowed. But you do learn a lot! He doesn't try to make the class easy, but tries to challenge every student. He definitely makes you think.
Mr. Short is an awesome teacher, i took him for College Algebra and Statistics. He is very intelligent and always willing to help if you need extra help. For statistic book is not required, the class subject is complex but he will help you as much as he can as long your are willing to make the effort! I would definitely recommend him!
very nice teacher! very patient and helpful.long office hours,so that whatever questions u have, just go to the office and talk to him.
I enjoy his class, he is willing to answer all your questions and give you moderate amount of homework. I took statistics a year ago and this course wasn't very hard comparing w stat. I really recommend this teacher if you want to learn math!
Without a doubt the best math teacher I've ever had. He's the type of math professor you wish you had in high school. He goes above and beyond to make sure you learn the material. He made all his own teaching material with real world examples to make sure you understand the material. There is HW but it's due on test day. :)Take Short for Stats!
Very bad teacher, class was a waste of time even though I did receive the credit.
Avoid, terrible teaching style - hard to learn from.
Excellent professor! But if you are a life science major, you may want to reconsider taking him.He teaches to future engineers. Don't get me wrong, I am a science major and I managed to get an A, but I struggled. Lots of tricky questions and no calculators allowed on the exams.Take home portion was extremely challenging, too.
I really enjoyed taking Applied Calculus with Mr. Short. He goes above and beyond to make sure that you get the concepts. Calculus is not easy, therefore I recommend that you ask a lot of questions. He's is very willing to assist those who want to learn.
I thoroughly enjoyed having Proff Short as an instructor. He breathes life into a difficult subject and explains how math skills are applicable in different fields.
Puts things so others can easily understand them, Tends to go off topic sometimes but still a good class.
Prof Short is amazing! He makes his word problems and situations in Stats easy understanding and of a world view. The class is hard itself but if you do the hwk and go to all the lectures you will get a passing grade. He's funny, sarcastic, & hates the FL school system, haha. He's a cutie!
Took him for statistics and he is a GREAT professor. Extremely intelligent, respectful, and helpful. Provides great examples, offers additional help, and overall is a very very good professor. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM!!!!
He's a really good teacher but his class is not easy.
He is a good instructor. Teaches MAC2311 under the assumption that you are an Engineering/Science major and will be taking the entire sequence of 23xx. Expect to not rely on any technology, and to be able to understand the concepts, because he is very concept heavy. Taking him for 2312 for sure.
Fantastic teacher!! Very knowledgeable and so helpful. If you're taking him, be prepared to take notes and study because his class isn't a cake walk. However if you study, you'll leave the class with a good grade and feeling like you actually understand calculus! I just wish he taught calc 3 or diffy q's! Highly recommend!!
Holy crap this is a joke. Homework and test are not relevent to the book at all. So it is impossible to look at your HW and try and compair it to the book. You have to be a genius to pass this guys class.
I aam extremely serious about my studies and try to learn as much as possible while I am in college. Professor Short's class was absolutely ridiculous. You never knew what to expect on the tests. I don't know how he got any decent reviews, the entire class was completely disgusted with him and his teaching style.
Professor Short did a great job making everything easy to understand for me! He explained the concepts really well and I feel like I learned a ton. I would definitely recommend this class to anyone taking Calculus 1 or Precalc. The more notes you take in his class the better off you will be for the tests.
Professor Short has a very strange teaching style. It was very hard understanding which concepts would be used heavily. His homework is not like the exams and he automatically thinks you know everything as well as him. He is very smart, but I know I am not a genius. His class is hard. Do not take him if you need someone to explain things well.
Took him for pre-calc and was not pleased with results. He is a nice teacher but blazes through lessons and never clearly answers questions. Homework is way harder than anything in book so it is hard to grasp concepts. Unless you are very good at math, look for a better teacher.
First of all, he is a strange teacher. He doesn't use textbooks. He has an online book which we also never used. He has powerpoints for each chapter and you'll learn from them. There are only a few sample questions that he uses in his powerpoints and that's all. Then, you need to take his exams and his tests are very different&hard.
The class was not at all what I expected. We didn't use a book, just class presentation and notes. We got behind on the syllabus and then we had to rush near the end, lesson one night test the next. The final seemed extremely hard, and we had no review. I would not recommend and not interested in taking him for any other classes I need.
Professor Short is an excellent math teacher. He explains in a conceptual way so you retain understanding, not just memorization. He is challenging, but if you intend to proceed through calculus, do yourself a favor and take his classes to prep you.
Short is nice and funny, makes Calculus interesting. That being said, this class is ridiculously hard. If you plan on going forward to harder courses, take him. He's about 90% conceptual and 10% mechanical so you really understand the meaning behind the math. I literally do ALL the recommended homework, spend 20+ hrs a week and am not doing well.
The class is not easy during a brief summer term, but Prof. Short made it manageable. You do well on his tests by doing the homework but some of the conceptual questions are quite hard. He gives easy partial credit on pretty much all questions, so showing all of your work is a must.
I will advise others to avoid T. Short in the future. I took his online Stats course. The information was inadequate and unorganized. He doesn't use a book. He supplies an abundance of online resources that only add to the confusion. Midterm Class Average 70% -- Final Class Average 59% It is a terrible class described as "unorthodox."
7 graded marks, 5 tests + final + homeworkquizzes, all equally weighted. The final replaces the lowest test. He gives fair partial credit, tests are highly conceptual and measures whether you actually understand the material. If you're taking future Calc, take him, you will be strongly prepared for the future. Don't slack, he rewards hard workers.
Ehh, he's an okay. Makes his tests harder than they're suppose to be and he's isn't usually clear what's going to be on the test. Doing the HW is kinda useless. Usually goes off topic in class. On the flip side, he splits his test into two parts: in-class and take home. Doing the take home test can really make a difference. Would NOT take again.
Don't take this class online with this professor. his questions in the quizzes and midterm are different than the homework (My stat Lab) questions i was working on half of the semester. I worked hard since the beginning and prepared well for the midterm. I only wanted to improve my GPA with this class, instead I failed the midterm, so i withdraw.
The power point he uses is really confusing at times but if you cram all the homework the day of the test it will be fresh in your mind and you will pass with an A like me. Hes a great teacher though and the lowest test grade is replaced by the final. Be sure to do all the extra credit quizzes he gives (3 points each). They are really easy.
He's a great teacher, but don't expect him to give you an easy A. He makes his students work for their grades in hope that it will help them later down the line. Middle two chapters are the hardest for most, but his tests are graded fairly. Start doing the recommended homework early or you'll struggle. Worst test is replaced with final test.
Great teacher. He's made it clear that he wants you to actually understand the material (he states many times he's preparing you for the next course) so make sure you study for the exams. 5 tests, final, lots of online quizzes, homework sheets due with tests, +take homes.
Coming from an all A math student, he is hard. He makes it so you understand the material, but his tests are nothing like the homework or examples in class, making it hard to be prepared for the tests. Overall: Easy to understand and learn from if you pay attention. Tests are near impossible to study for even when doing ALL the homework.
Be prepared to work very hard. He gives all resources you need.. Practice practice!
Coming from his calculus 1 class last semester, he is much easier on his statistics students. Take notes, make sure you understand the concepts, because he tests your understanding of the material itself, not just whether you can plug and chug out answers. Great teacher, always there to explain things if needed. I'd definitely take him again.
Beware! Where he is a nice teacher, if you are a visual learner and need examples to understand then this class is not for you. There is only 1 example done for every section. He talks a lot about the subject matter but does not show you it. There is no book to look at for more examples. HW is mandatory to pass. Overall I would not take him again!
No book required, Teaches from power-point, hand writes out the examples step by step, which are available for reference in the power points. Lots of extra credit, good home work material, do your HW knowing what you can expect for test. He does everything he can to assist students. Open note quizes will keep you motivated to attend class.
Definitely recommend. For every test he gives there is a take home portion that you turn in a week after the original test date. He gives a couple graded homework assignments, nothing too bad. He is available during his office hours and will answer any question(s) you have. He uses a powerpoint as his teaching tool.
He uses a powerpoint as his teaching tool, does multiple examples for each type of problem. He does his best to make the information understandable and relatable. He gives practice quizzes and questions on those are ones you will see on the test. Only allowed to use 4 function calculator, but helps you understand the material better.
Professor Short was very encouraging and fair. I would definitely recommend choosing him.
Explained the material very well. Weekly homework assignments from the text book. Easy A if you put the time and effort into learning the material. Don't expect to leave class early
Mr. short is an excellent professor. I took face to face class with him. Loved! Don't miss his lectures, it is very helpful to understand better the subject. It was, by far, the best class I took this semester. He is very approachable and treats his students with the utmost respect.
Professor Short is one of the best math teachers I've ever had. Very clear lectures and answers all questions. Tests representative of covered material. I took Discrete Math (MAD3107) which wasn't listed under the course options here so I selected the next highest course code. Lectures and power points are the critical study content.
Had him for Trig. He always came into class with a positive and uplifting attitude that kept me motivated. He taught the course in a very straight-forward and clear manner. Only grades exams and online hw quizzes. Not a hard class and pretty laid back.
Prof Short is very intelligent and kind. However, his exams are brutal! Very few MCQ's and the ones that were, literally had 1 word differences, which were very misleading. I'm an A student and math has never been a huge struggle for me. I actually enjoyed learning Stats until it came to his exams. His brain just works on a different wave length.
He drops the lowest test. So much thankful to him
Professor Short is a great teacher. His lectures are thorough with lots of examples. He is always available in his office when needed for help. His tests are difficult but he gives partial credit and very quick grader. He always has a good attitude which is an awesome quality.
His STAT class is useful for those who want to understand deeply about the concept, and for those who are prefer to study by themselves. There are a lot of materials for you to study. Anyways, his exam is based on what you have studied, so dont expect that everything in the lecture and homework will be on the exam.
I already knew taking an online math class was going to be difficult but this professor made it more difficult then needed. I basically had to teach myself. He was no help. He only gave us notes on the material and they didn't explain the problems fully and I was at a loss. His final and midterm are 60% of your grade so you better get good grades.
Lowest test and quiz grade dropped. Cares about success. Constantly sending information in emails. Had an A all year, the final and brought me down to a B. The proctored midterm and final are worth a lot. The first half of the class is definitely easier material. The class is tough but he provides notes, tutorials, and powerpoints in MyStatLab.
Ok so I think a lot of ppl get confused about this guy, Yea he is nice and good personailty.. but that doesnt help with my grade lmao. His test are brutal stats is no joke. No study guide or anything for the 4 test that are 80% your grade. There are easy extra credit videos but they help your grade a little only. HW as well. No book use.
He teaches by powerpoint, which is not my style of learning math. The only grades are the test, quizzes and the final. So, if you do badly on the test there's no other option to bring up the grade. He does drop the lowest test score. The practice test is nothing like the actual test. He teaches fast on the hard parts and slow on the easier parts
Professor Short was a moderate professor, he used PowerPoints and provided examples. There is no textbook or MyStatLab. Homework given is similar to test layout. There are 5 unit tests with a final and project (which were waived from COVID-19 transition). Extra credit offered by watching AgainstAllOdds videos. Didn't teach/Zoom during COVID-19.
He is a great professor and he knows what he's talking about. However the class is hard and you need to put a lot of effort into understanding the content.
He's a great teacher and very knowledgeable. His assignments are set up for success in his class. I like how he does not deviate from calculus in his lectures and uses all of class time for the topic. He is very timely and is always willing to help you understand. Too bad he doesn't have a Calculus II online class; he would be my first choice.
Loved his classes so much. For me, he was one of the teachers that you remember and shape your thoughts on the subject. I thought he made Calc fun and if I could take his classes for no reason again (in person, I would. I had him for 3 classes at SPC and each were great. He was more work, but it was worth it.
The midterm and final were weighted so heavily. Despite having As and Bs on all of the tests and quizzes, I ended up with a C purely because of my midterm grade. The midterm and Final are worth 70% of your grade and are basically the only grades that matter.
Professor Short is does not teach. He talks in circles. He doesn't respond to emails. This class is a joke. His final and mid-term are worth 70% of your grade. If you do bad on those, then you will not pass this class. There is homework, quizzes and tests that may as well count for nothing! Waste of time and energy! BEWARE!!!
I don't know what this professor gets paid for. This is the worst class I have ever taken. I had a 3.9 GPA until this Professor set me up for failure. Please do your research. He may seem nice, but when it comes to the end of the semester, he leaves you high and dry. No help at all.
Love professor Short! He has done a great job with the Zoom lessons since COVID. Explains everything I ask him to explain further. He talks a lot but I find it nice that he is personable and cares about his students. He has given us all take-home tests and is flexible on grading and due dates. Has definitely helped me grow as a math student.
Holy Crap this was the hardest class EVER! get ready to rewire your brain and think in ways you never considered. The teacher is awesome but prepares to work! this class is not easy and if you don't do your work you will fail.
He is the best math professor at SPC. Easy to understand. Have taken 3 classes with him, and I am very happy. Midterm and Final are worth 60%-70% of your grade; however, they are easy.
Professor Short was the reason I was able to pass AND understand Statistics. He breaks everything down by hand, step-by-step. The best math professor I've ever had!
Be prepared to read the textbook. The midterm and final will take a huge part of your overall grade. The tests are really helpful materials to prepare for exams. If you take an online class, be sure to watch the test review video lectures.
This guy was super cool and I really enjoyed his lectures. Though, if i were to give any warning, DO NOT take this class during the summer because this man moves way too fast. Also, It's almost not worth it doing the homework because the percentage of the grade is so low.
Prof Short is very thorough in his lectures. He also has a great personality and is very interactive when students are willing to be. I like how he gives the theory behind the math before diving into examples. He's great!
He a good guy, but trash lecturer. Be prepared to learn on your own. He does provide videos corresponding to the material to help your understanding. There is an online textbook with practice problems and lots of extra credit. I do wish he was easier to access outside of class. Bottom line: if youre disciplined youll do fine.
In my class of 4 students, he was extremely attentive and was always available whenever a student needed extra help understanding the material. Abstract Algebra is a difficult course for anyone to take, but as long as you complete and understand the homework any test given in class should be an automatic A. Be happy if you receive Short as a prof
This professor does not grade on a curve for the exams. If you get a bad grade on the exams, you are very likely to fail. Exams are worth 70% of the final grade (35% each for the midterm and final).
I took the online class. Professor Short is a very nice professor. He always motivated the class to keep up the good work. First half of class is somewhat easy, second half is pretty difficult. Be ready to teach yourself a little bit because the book isn't the best. Midterm and Final require honorlock. We use MyLabMath for homework, tests, quizzes.
Professor Short is not "professor material". He isn't easily reachable outside of class. Doesn't extend due dates online when an email from his says otherwise. He doesn't teach, just posts unhelpful videos online. Be prepared to teach yourself the entire course, and still probably fail. *Do not recommend
I'm not even halfway thru the term and had to rate how awful he is as a professor. He says so much in his instructional videos but says so little at the same time. Will talk a LOT about the theory and who made the formula etc, but show little to no explanation on how to actually work the problem out. final and midterm are 70% of ur overall grade.
The professor is good if you are a student who enjoys lengthy rants that are unrelated to the course. He also will never email you back, many students have but most never have received a response. He doesn't care how you learn, so if you are struggling, he doesn't care. You also have to teach yourself, for he only lectures and never teaches.
Mr. Short is a great professor who really cares about his students' success. His lectures are lively, although he tends to go off on tangents (no pun intended) about random topics quite often. He's very knowledgeable and he prepares you well for the exams and for the next sequential math course.
Good professor, the class was based around 6 main tests that your grade depends on. There was also homework for extra credit. If you're a math whiz or provide forth a good effort this class is easy to pass. Very understanding professor and provides plenty of resources for you to learn. The tests are no calculator though, and very conceptual.
Professor Short is passionate about statistics!! Learned a LOT from class. Good class pace, decent amount of homework, but plenty of time to get it done. Very few tests, but they are mildly difficult! Extra credit bonus videos. Not too difficult to get an A from the class. Professor Short made class a lot of fun and would definitely take him again!
Professor Short taught calculus 1 very well. I enjoyed taking his class
He is an amazing calc prof. He really knows his stuff, no midterm only a final. 5-6 units, he goes into depth about what will be on the test so you are never confused. I would recommend this in person because his lectures are rly good, he never really check attendence in my class but PLEASE GO you will miss alot. Very kind and willing to help.
Professor Short's MAC2311 class is challenging, but engaging if you put in the effort. The exams are heavily weighted, so regular study using resources like Unstuck study is crucial. Overall, a rewarding math course with a caring instructor.
