Easy class, but not without a little effort. Lectures are 90% enjoyable. Discussions are fun. He doesn't like class interruptions. Tests take a bit of studying, sometimes a 5 hours! But very worthwhile.
Pretty easy class. I almost made an A. He is a little strange though. His class is somewhat fun and not all that boring
He is a great professor. Test are fairly easy but you get a chance to do lots of extra credit quizzes. There is no reason you could get an A with little effort!
He only teaches this in the summer. The class itself is really easy, but the lab work/assignments can really pile up. If you take in the summer, don't take anything else. Everyone made an A or B in the class.
Kind of arrogant, but very good professor. I enjoyed the lectures. Tests came straight from the notes, but notes were extrememly long. I would take him again.
Is an interesting guy. His sarcasm is not for everybody. Allows you to drop your three test grades if you do well on the OPTIONAL cumulative final.
Arrogant and sarcastic. Loves to be on a power trip with students. Classwork is not hard but lots of notes for tests. OK teacher but he could dispense with the sarcasm and the negativity.
He is: funny, sarcastic, interesting, intellectual! This class requires a massive amount of note-taking though. You can study your ass off for a test, and still make a low B, hopefully a C.
This teacher is awsome! you really have to be open minded to appreciate his class and the more difficult topics. He also makes amazing cookies and fudge. food is always a plus. just study hard and do all the quizes and you'll get a good grade.
take this professor! hes great! there is a lot of notes but tests are straight from them. you get a review sheet that tells you EXACTLY what you need to know! he's very interesting too. very fair. TAKE HIM!!
He was a great teacher. Although very sarcastic he will definately make you laugh. He is prompt on posting gardes. He posts them the day you take the exam. His final is optional. All his tests are DIRECTLY from his notes. There are a lot of notes but the class is interesting. Just study your notes well and attend discussion days and you can get an
Though you are not required to attend class, you really should or you will miss LOTS of notes. He is a great prof! Ive taken him for CHFD 2134, and CHFD 2130! Very interesting, funny, & sarcastic! His tests are not impossible, but they do require a good deal of studying! You might actually enjoy class for once!
This professor is awesome!!! I highly reccommend him. The lectures are interesting, informative, and fun. All you have to do is come to class take notes and study according to the exam review sheet for the tests. If you do all of the above, there is no way you can't get an easy "A" in this class. I did!!!
I LOVED this class! He is an awesome teacher. He's funny and makes you want to learn the material.
Very funny teacher, very easy class. Do the easy assignments and you'll do fine. Final essay at the end of the semester, which is very easy to do. Put the time in, and you'll get an A
Professor is amazing! He's really funny & you'll learn a lot of info that you'll ACTUALLY need one day. I definitely recommend taking this class.
I had him for Family Development. Great at keeping your attention. All the discussions are interesting. I actually enjoyed going to class for a change.
This guy is really good. Holds your attention, actually wants to teach and is happy when he's teaching. Choose him for FYE: Beer and Circus, you'll love that class....not the work, but its still fun and heated with the discussions. Also very helpful with work and nice too.
Take Dr. Maurer! He's awesome, and he's a hottie!
This professor is seriously not hot and not cool at all. He is so mean and if you're an athlete don't expect to make up any miss work b/c he won't let you. He likes POGIL assignments and you basically teach yourself until he decides to lecture. He is hardcore on attendance and NEVER BE LATE!!!One good thing is he makes you think.
DO NOT TAKE THIS SECTION WITH HIM. He's rude, condescending, and DOES NOT care about his students. AVOID taking his FYE section if at all possible! If it's the only one available then take it 2nd semester or as a sophomore.. trust me it's worth waiting if it means avoiding him!
This class is very interesting and you learn a lot of material. Go to class and TAKE NOTES! Make sure to study for the tests because they are VERY difficult! You can earn up to 20pts extra credit if you take the short online quizzes. TAKE THEM! He is a nice teacher but knows what is expected of college students so don't mess around.
He's a good teacher, but the class itself is kinda difficult due the large amount of info. He really knows his stuff, though he may come off a little bit strong he normally has a reason for everything he does in the class. You probably won't pass if you don't go to class because his lectures are very in depth. It was a pretty fun class though
The class itself was really interesting, I actually looked forward to going. He doesn't take attendance, but you HAVE to go to class if you want to pass. You take soo many notes and they're very in depth, and you have to study for the tests because there pretty difficult. He comes off kind of arrogant, but you just have to get used to him.
Hated his class! He is so rude. If you don't agree with him, don't say anything because he will make you feel so stupid in front of everybody. I recommend not taking him for anything!!!! I worked so hard in his class and still got a D. I was in his office all the time trying to get help with the material. I was a straight A student until him!
I had him for Child Development and ended up dropping the class. I am an A student. I have had 4.0s for the past 4 semester. I strongly disliked his class. I made a 74 on the first exam and went to go talk to him and he said compared to the rest of the class I did great. I'm not a C student. I wouldn't recommend him as a teacher.
FEE-I usually only get B's and A's but I am so proud of the C in his class.Yes the class is hard but guess what so is life. He really does spend a lot of time coming up with ways to help us students and he really wants you to pass but you wont if you dont go (duh)!! POGIL is awesome and really makes you understand, and it makes class go fast
He is ABSOLUTELY AWESOME!!! i loved his class!! go to class everyday because he gives quizzes over the reading guides! and make sure you do the reading guides because they really help you study for his test. He loves what he does and he's an awesome professor! He is a professor that I continue to go to even though Im done with his classes.
class is pretty hard but if you go to class everyday and take good notes and REVIEW THE NOTES EVERY NIGHT you'll be fine. Try to do the quizzes online right after class since its fresh in your mind. He is really easy to talk to and he makes learning economics really fun. He's a pretty cool professor overall I enjoyed him thoroughly!
His outlines only help sometimes, he assumed I don't know how to study. We don't agree on anything, and I am considered a bigest because I am a Christian. Sorry, but I am not going to stop saying bless you. Homeschooling is a legitiment form of education and its a baby not a fetus. You have your views I have mine, why cant I voice mine too?
a faced paced class. make sure you do the reading guides because they will help with the daily quizzes. he gives partial credit on test so its hard to fail. he honestly wants you to do well and will explain anything you need. the class is very hands on and very entertaining. i would recommend taking him just be prepared to put in the effort!
If you do all the reading guides and go to class every day then it's easy to get an A. He is overall a good professor and has your best interest in mind. Just be prepared to be bored.
Great Teacher. Gives very clear notes, provides detailed study guides for exams, makes class interesting, and attendance is optional (but i recommend going to class bc pwr points are not provided) Do the extra credit quizzes!! I didnt take the final and I came out of the class with an A and I really learned a lot! AWESOME TEACHER!
Great Teacher. Child Development (CHFD 2135) was a difficult class but I learned a lot. Go to class everyday. Do Reading Guides and study. The toughest class I've had at GSU but with work & his help it is manageable. I got a B. I would recommend the class & him! I also had him for Family Development(CHFD 2134)Easy, lots of extra Credit. Made an A.
Dr. Maurer is very precise. You will start class on time and not 30 seconds later. If you're late, you are either tardy or absent, no exceptions. Also, if you miss more than one or two classes, you will fail. He's very strict on attendance. Also, you must be able to follow directions extremely well. If not, you will still fail. Good luck!
family development is a lot of notes but he explains things very well. the class has a lot of good and interesting discussions. his test are straight from the notes plus he gives partial credit so its easy to pass if you study. i really like him as a teacher and would recommend him
Interesting class! Dr. Maurer is very into what he teaches and is open to ALL comments and questions. He's very clear on the material. I would go to class for the notes, because they are not provided. Exams are scratch-offs (like lottery tickets) and they increase your average test score tremendously. Great class, great professor. i recommend.
Dr. Maurer LOVES this class, and is very enthusiastic. Clicker quizzes are an every day thing along with online quizzes. It is a lot of information that you basically have to teach yourself but as long as you read and do the reading guides you'll be fine! Tests are easier than you think. I got an A! He truly cares about his students.
I absolutely LOVED this class! One of the most interesting classes I've ever taken. He lectures every day but I looked forward to them because he makes them so interesting. Easy participation points, just bring your clicker! Notes are straight forward but his tests are difficult. Be sure to use the book to study. I got a B! Definitely Recommend.
He is a great teacher and his tests come directly from his notes! He uses power point so it is not strictly lecture. He also does many different activities with the class. I would highly recommend taking his class!
Dr. Maurer is a great professor. He is so interested in not only the material but making sure you are prepared for real life. Tests are easy if you study and he gives partial credit. Quizzes and assignments are EXTREMELY easy. (Seriously 100s on everything without even trying.) Go to class, take notes, and you're golden.
Dr. Maurer is a great teacher will be taking him for another course and excited about it. Take him if you can!
Dr. Maurer is one of my favorite professors at Georgia Southern. He is very passionate about what he teaches and will make sure you learn. His clicker questions come straight from the notes so go to class to get easy 100's. His tests are straight from the notes as well, and he also posts study guides. Great teacher and great class!
Wonder professor! I didn't even buy the book an still came out of the class with a high B. The lecture notes most definitely help you with your test. If you just study your notes you will be fine. Clicker questions come straight from the notes! Go to class everyday and at the end of the semester you get 30 extra pts. Would take him again.
He is VERY passionate about family science. He loves what he does and it really shows. His tests are scratch-off (like lottery tickets), I loved this form of test taking because it allows for partial credit. The negative, he is very biased. He pushes what he believes on you and does not respect other's opinions. Easy A though.
This class is the reason why I get up in the morning. He's so passionate about what he's teaching & he genuinely cares. He can be intimidating but I promise he is the sweetest person alive. You learn so much & he makes it fun. Not a filler class because you actually have to put in work. If you don't plan to go then do not enroll. READ, READ, READ!!
If it wasn't for the clicker quizzes I would've failed the class with a B. . The only way you will get clicker grades if you come to class EVERYDAY. VERY SARCASTIC but very knowledgeable professor. 3 easy test that straight-forward comes from the lecture notes. He do not post lectures online you HAVE to go to class. He starts class ON-TIME!!!
He was the biggest jerk I have ever met. I passed the class, but when struggling mid-semester he told me to change my major becasue I'm just "not smart enough". He is very critical, sarcastic, and he loves to embarass you with his smart comments when you ask a simple question. I will never take him again, ever.
The information covered during the course is easy & straightforward. However, those reading guides will drive you crazy, but they help. I hated every second of this class. From the quizzes to lectures. If you don't like in-class participation, don't take this class. I definitely wouldn't take this course again.
Great professor/ passionate about his job--believe me! You have to BUCKLE DOWN for the reading guides (RG) he provide. The exams/ quizzes (online and in-class) comes from the RG so STUDY them! KNOW THE MILESTONES!!!! 2 of your exams will mostly consist of knowing them. Learn from my grade: It's an easy class, but DON'T WAIT too late to study!!!
Passionate about his job and strict to his rules. Do the study guide and you'll do fine in the class, exam, and quizzes. I would definitely recommend him to ANY CHFD major or minor.
He is an exceptional professor, very dedicated to his work. There are daily quizzes so coming to class is a must. He provides reading guides to do at your own discretion, but do them! They give the answers to the test and quizzes. If you put time into this class, you will succeed
The topic of AAT and the role of animals in our everyday lives was very interesting. However, this class was the worst one I had taken my entire freshman year, and I also feel like it was the worst part of my year in general. The instructors were way too strict in terms of grading, attendance, service-learning, etc. I learned a lot but still hate it
The hardest teacher I have ever had. You have a quiz everyday you come to class and one when you get back home. You have to make time for the hw, or you will not pass. I luckily came out with a B. You will learn a lot of info though.
Professor Maurer is great! He does not post his notes, so need to go to class. He also has daily participation clicker questions. If you show up and try you will do fine. He also makes the lectures super interesting and genuinely wants you to learn, and ask questions. His tests are also scratch off, so you get partial credit. Would take him again!
very difficult especially for a freshman first semester student! there are a ton of quizzes including one every night online and every day in class.. the ones online are fine and easier but the clicker quizzes are impossible. the questions on them are not even the most important part of the texts and there is so much reading it is very hard to pass
I had Dr. Maurer for Intro to Family Science. I was skeptical because of his reviews, but his class was actually very interesting. His tests were based practically all on lecture material, with some from the textbook readings. If you don't read the textbook you will still do good on the exams because they are scratch off. I would take him again.
One of the best professors to have a working relationship with. He genuinely cares about his students and will go out of his way to help them succeed. The most organized person I have ever met, and will hold you to the same standard so just be on top of the syllabus and listen in class and you will be fine.
I took this class as an elective, but I actually really enjoyed it. There are study guides for the tests, but the study guides are like 20 pages of information. Participation and attendance are taken by iclickers, and its really important that you come to class. However, if you go to all the classes and pay attention the exams aren't too bad.
I absolutely LOVE Dr. M, he is my favorite professor. I highly recommend his classes, he is genuinely excited about the material & teaching his students. Attendance is a must as he doesn't post his lectures & there are daily clicker quizzes, but do the readings & you'll do great! He posts a reading guide for each test & they are super helpful!
Dr. Maurer really wants you to learn, and he is very passionate about teaching. However, do not take this class unless you have lots of time to devote to the workload. IN class quizzes every class for a grade were the hardest part.
Dr. Maurer cares about his students more than any professor I've had before. He is incredibly organized and very articulate of expectations. The course is definitely challenging due to the sheer amount of information to be covered, but Dr. Maurer is incredibly understanding and genuinely wants each student to succeed, in and out of the classroom.
I really struggled in this class even considering that I'm a pretty good student. There were two reading guide quizzes every week. I would generally spend at least an hour of my time every single day working on the reading guides and would still make a low B on every exam.
Professor Maurer gives awesome lectures but there is a lot of work for this class. 3 exams, a final, a weekly quiz, and weekly connecting surveys. The tests are based on everything you learn in the class- lecture notes, textbook, and course book material. Test study guides are 100-200 questions and take forever to complete. Hard but fun if you try.
He was Amazing!!! I took this class via zoom this semester! this class was very interesting i wish i could have him again for my other classes!
Dr. M is such a fun & unique professor and has a character of his own (in a good way ;) This class was challenging but great! I loved all of the stories he told to keep the content fun, but he can also be serious when he needs to be. Only thing that I didn't care for was that it seemed like if you didn't agree with the book you were "ignorant".
Theres an in class clicker quiz at the start of every class and also a at home quiz due before the start of class each day, based on the reading guides. The reading guides are time consuming but really helpful. I suggest pairing up to complete to them but be sure to review the parts you arent responsible for. Most of your grade comes from test
Theres a clicker quiz at the start of each class so attendance is mandatory. The only other grade you have in this course besides the clicker quiz are the test, which count for majority of you grade. The material & activities are interesting & relatable so its makes the class manageable. Review & study & youll do fine in the course.
10/10 recommend! There are clicker questions every class so make sure you go to class because it can help you go up a letter grade in the end. Besides the clicker questions, the only thing graded is the 3 tests that are on scratch off sheets. He does mix up his opinion and the material but overall a great professor! He cares about his material alot
Great professor! Lectures and class discussions were very interesting. A great deal of points come from attendance, and lectures are not posted online. If you show up for class and complete the study guides, you will do well.
Professor Maurer is someone who is passionate about the class and his students. He genuinely wants you to pass but he does not give out grades. The daily textbook quizzes help with studying. Three exams count for the majority of your grade, but he will help and give you tips on what and how to study. The content is heavy but interesting.
Please do not take his class unless you have to! Especially not if it's online. He is far too strict and has no compassion. I lost one of my family members, and he did not allow me to make up two missing assignments. He needs to be more helpful and will tell you to ask other students for help. DO NOT TAKE!
Prof Maurer is a great teacher who wants to see his students succeed. The course work and short time frame made it very difficult to keep up, but as long as you stay updated with the lecture material you're fine. Heavy heavy course load, especially in a minimester class, but he gives feedback on majority of assignments, which is fairly helpful.
Do yourself a favor and take this class in person. This is the nicest professor at GSU and the lectures are interesting. All tests are completed online at home as well.
One of my favorite professors here! He is the sweetest making sure you feel welcomed every day. You do have clicker points that he uses every day but he makes the classes fun and interactive. He does assign reading but as long as you show up, you tend to get an understanding of everything. There is a quiz every week, but it is open book!
DR. MAURER IS THE BEST PROF AT GSU HANDS DOWN!!! I've taken 3 of his classes both in-person and online and I would definitely say that I prefer the in-person class better. As long as you take notes and pay attention you'll make an A. He cares so much for all of his students and is a very genuine person all around. Fav prof by far!!!
The professor shows no compassion or understanding for his students. Even though we are in college he expects students to act like robots with no mistakes. And he will not help or be understanding of incidents at all, even if the issue is communicated to him immediately.
I thoroughly enjoyed the structure of this course. Dr. Mauer's teaching style provided clear instruction, and I always left the class feeling smarter than I came in. I also want to thank him for the way his grading system is laid out so that students can plan accordingly.
So. Much. Reading. You teach yourself entirely from the text book. Seems to be a nice guy, but his lectures are insignificant when it comes to any graded assignment. All quizzes are on lockdown browser, but if you take notes on what you read you'll be fine.
This professor is definitely the sweetest I've had so far. He truly cares about his students and wants them to be successful. Read your textbook, take notes, and watch the lectures and you will do great! He also offers extra credit which is nice. The tests are on lockdown browser and you can use your notes! Take him if you have the chance!
Dr Maurer is amazing, his class is on the same schedule for every module, he does ask that you get a textbook but it isnt needed to pass. You need an iclicker for attendance and there is a 10 question quiz every week, theyre fairly simple and the questions are things we've talked abt. He does a great job at explaining everything!
Professor Maurer is not an empathic professor in the slightest. He preaches how he wants his students to succeed but when you go to him for help or ask what more can I do he blantly ignores and tells you oh well. You can not miss a single assignment no matter the circumstance because your grade will plummet and he will not be there to help you .
He is a very sweet and caring professor, makes sure you get everything you need for class.
He is very nice and regularly checks in to ensure that you're retaining the material and doing your assignments in a timely manner.
Genuinely one of the best professors, he is so sweet and caring! You can tell that he is confident in what he teaches. He cracks some jokes and the way he teaches his class is fun! He loves when people share and answers questions (not required to, 0 judgement). It really is an easy grade if you just show up and take notes. Recommend x1,000
He is a great professor and really makes sure that all of his students are cared for and are doing their best. This was a very easy class and it is really just tests and quizzes. The class itself is a very fun topic and I highly suggest him to take it with. He makes it fun while other professors do not care if you pass or fail.
