The worst teacher!! Only learned from the book her lecture was a waste of time. She let students debate on and on without any control over the class. She also will belittle comments made or questions asked by students. Avoid her.
Unlike the other reviewer, I found Prof. Tabares to be very easy to understand. She had control of the class, had helpful outlines both in class and online to aid in studying. A serious student should be able to achieve a "B" grade if not an &
Ms. Tabares is not very intersting unless you are REALLY into politcal science. She is very passionate about hte subject, but seems subject to mood swings and is very sensitive about students talking in class. It's possible to get an A, but not easy.
She is in control, that is as it should be. Accept it and move on. More importantly, she is knowledgable & passionate about Poli Sci, and you will know how your country's government works after taking this class.
very easy class especially if you have had a government class before. you'd have to be a bone head to get low grades in there.
Is very rude to students when they ask questions. Thinks everyone should know everything about government. Not nice, and talks funny.
This class totally sucked! She gives horrible lectures; by the middle of the semester I wasn't even taking notes. She gives you usefull study guides though...she totally freaks out if anyone talks. This is college dude, people have conversations in class.
You will learn a lot in her class. I know so much more about our government than ever before. But she gives way way too much homework and she is rude and unhelpful when you try to ask questions in class, or about the test or assignments. If you are super busy, don't take her class!!
Very hard class, I learned so much from it, but she gives way too much homework. Her tests are also nearly impossible even if you do read the book, it is all the vocab that you really need to learn for tests which is dumb because it should be on specifics but, VERY INTERESTING LECTURES.
great class/subject. Lousy teacher, lousy execution. Way to much homework, tests are nearly impossible to finish
Her lectures are worthless, but it doesn't even matter because the class is so easy. She offers good study guides for the tests & the assignments are easy. She is kind of lazy though. Half the time, she would rather just sit & chat with the class. Don't expect to get assignments back anytime soon.
Too much work, boring lecture, worst teacher ever.
Don't ever take Prof. T's class. It was a ridiculous amount of work for a 3 units GE class. Very unreasonable. I wrote a 20 page paper in that class, and I only wrote the bare minimum. A lot of other people wrote 30 or 40 pages. Find another professor.
I really liked this class. There is a lot of reading to do, but Ms. Tabares gives you all the material you need to do well in the class. I thought her lectures were interesting, and the tests reflected the material covered for each unit.
She gives alot of homework but it's not difficult. The tests arn't hard if you go to class and pay attention. I never even opened my book and I got an A. She posts a practice test online and it has alot of the test questions and she also posts a study guide. Tests are multiple chioce and short essay
She's an awsome teacher. i never read any chapters or any extra reading online. Just from the notes in class i passed with B. A big project to do.Start on it right away it's really a big part of your grade.4 exams in class, no final.Drops the lowest exam. If you do well don't have to take 4th exam.

Great teach and well organised! Yes there is a lot of work but you will learn a lot. Not a hard class but it keeps you busy. She's very hyper too which helps keep you alert.
she sucks!
The material is quite interesting, and considering that the lecture and class activities are geared around the readings, it is hard to not to get a handle on the material. As for the negative comments by others, they most likely took 301, where classes are 45+ and filled with disrespectful morons.
A really cool teacher a rising star. I love politics I did not get an A but she is a great teacher. People that said bad things about her are losers anyway. She is hot too bad she is married.
Tabares was a very good teacher. She was very clear and thorough. You don’t have to do much reading because she lectures on everything that is on the test. The homework is very easy all you have to do is complete it.
She is the worst teacher ever. trust me. take anyone but her. is not reasonable. tests are very hard. you will hate going to her class everyday. WAY TOO MUCH WORK FOR A GE CLASS!!!!!!!!
lecture was really dumb. read the book, take notes from the book. does a good job of clarifying things for you. childish teaching styles (drawing pictures). interesting class tho, lots of debates on the discussion board.

Lots of silly busy work and the lectures are incredibly boring.... discussions can be ok, but it's a lot like high school - if you watch the news or like the History Channel, you'll find this class way too simplistic.

Expectations for this class were at times unclear, as much of the work is online. Sometimes notes and work assignments will be posted on course web site and if you don't happen to check it, it's your fault. Very inspired teacher, but she does expect a lot. HOURS and HOURS of busywork.

WORST TEACHER EVER!!!!! DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!!! I MEAN IT TRUST ME TAKING HER CLASS WILL BE A MISTAKE AND YOU WILL REGRET IT. NEVER EVER TAKE HER CLASS SHE DOESNT HELP YOU OUT AND WORST TEACHER EVER DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS PLEASEEEE
I liked her a lot. A hard teacher, but a good one. I learned a ton. I hear all the Poli Sci teachers on campus are hard teachers, so I would say she is a safe bet. However, I am a more left brained/math lover. My friend who is totally artistic and a genious didn't get this teacher at all. So, I guess it depends on who you are and how you think.
I took her for Political Ideologies. Very good professor.
Great teacher, always make class interesting. People who complain about her are the usual complainers who are lazy and don't want to do their work. Most people just want to take notes and take a 30 question multiple choice test, sorry, this isn't high school. Tabares is great professor, if you hate politics, get over it, you have to take it, aaahahahh hahahaaahaha!!!!!!!!
Hated this class This is college yet she treats the class as if they are in middle school Lectures the class if she feels that people are not paying enought attention to her Class is pretty simple TONS OF BUSY WORK Test are somewhat difficult but if you do the busy work then youre pretty much set Very condescending and irritating woman I would draw
Her test are pretty easy. The only thing is there is a lot of homework. I recommend the class if you do the hw, it is pretty easy but time consuming. Her test are not bad at all. She even drops one of your lowest test scores.
she made the class way to hard, it would have been more enjoyable if it wasn't for the HOURS AND HOURS of homework EVERY WEEK!
This class required a lot of work, but it wasnt necassarily hard, just time consuming. She really knows what she is talking about. i personally liked her. If your looking for an easy A, dont take the class. but if you actually want to learn something about politics then she is a good choice.
Ok class. Lots of work. Not really hard, just time consuming. Hybrid class is good because you take the tests online and so they are open book. Lectures are fun.
Not the best professor, but withstandable. Not a bad class. Half online, half in class took some getting used to but overall a real cool and flexible system. Started off a little boring and slow but as soon as more class discussion and participation began that class became fun. Work load is extremely time consuming at times but manageable.

DO NOT TAKE HER! Class is pretty cool, but she makes it way more difficult than it needs to be. Finals and tests are full of strongly worded questions which are easy to misinterpret. Way too time consuming and flat out not worth wasting a semester on. Take the class but not WITH THIS PROFESSOR!
She is a very straightforward instructor with very straghtforward expectations and materials. If you come to class prepared you will be fine and find the class easy, however if you come to class with excuses you will find she is not accomadating (as it should be). I ened up with 102% in her class...showing that is is easy, if you apply yourself.
I cant believe that people recomended this class. I would rather get shot in the face twice! I did all my work studied for all the tests and barely got a C. If you're a nerd, take this class and prepare to struggle, if you're an average student who gets Bs... say your prayers on getting that in her class...She hands out work like candy, DONTTAKEHER
Incredibly too much busy work, it's rediculous!! If you like something due everyday, take her. She has you do the most time consuming projects for 10 points. Even if you get all A's on those assignments they don't effect your overall grade in the slightest.

Her class goes by really fast she interacts alot during class and it goes by fast. very little busy work. she likes to work with technology we have unique assigments like online simulations and stuff like that GREAT TEACHER
Tons of homework, but tests are clear easy to get good grades on. Online homework is easy and cushions your grade because you can do it till you get 100%. Did I say lots of homework? She is a good teacher.
Could afford to make her class a lot easier, because then the room might not be so barren by the end of the semester, and students might want to come to class. Easily the most boring class I lasted an entire semester through. To compound that, I didn't learn a whole lot (it was mostly pointless stuff.)
Prof. Tabares is a very professional. I had her in the fall of 2005, and at the beginning it was hard because I did not know how to distribute my own study times. Then I spoke with her and she helped me quite a bit. So, yes there is work to do in her class; at times it may feel overwhealming, but in the end I learned a lot! A+ to U Prof! A.M.
This class is definately no for all college students. She hands out many papers, conducts weak group discussions, shows old political process movies/reviews ch. reading- yet the test makes the infor sensless. make an informed choice.
I thought she was knowledgible, and enthusiastic. She did not lead group discussions very well, and didn't manage time very well. If you suck at tests but do homeworks this is your class, she offers alot of nickel and dime points for assignemnts. Tests only equal 60%, and she offers tons of extra credit.
Good teacher!
I took this because it was an introductory class. She demands that we know in-depth historical knowledge on her topics which I feel should be left to the majors. She has a power trip demanding that groups do oral presentations THE DAY before thanksgiving, issues assignments and has them due the day after we take an exam, and is annoying.
She speaks very fast and covers material quickly. She is constantly jumping from one topic to another in the middle of her lectures, which left me dumbfounded and confused. She requires homework and her tests are challenging. If you don't have a pre-understanding of politics i would not recamend this teacher.
Talks alot; lectures= difficult 2 follow. She over explains info,1st i felt she was treating us as if we were dumb- later i realized her over-explaining issue.does powerpoint presentations in class-didnt find them useful or comprehensive. Very easy2 get A, just read/study text, do Hw(lots of small stuff) & EC. Makes time&effort 2 help u, she cares
She is great! She is very nice (especially out of class) and is always willing to help. Her tests are pretty easy if you study and the lowest out of 4 will get dropped. My only warning is to survive the first 2 weeks because she goes over how to use blackboard soooo many times. I wanted to pull my hair out. Other than that great class, learned lots
She is a good teacher, however, she assigns too much homework. There are several assignments that she does not give enough points for, for the amount of work that needs to be done. Also, she is not very clear about what is expected of you in the assignments. Do not ever be late to class or she will make an example out of you. But you do learn alot.
Online class pretty simple as long as you do the work. Overall a pretty good Poli Sci class.
Hands down the most unorganized teacher I have had at AR. She is the biggest slacker in the class. If you go I suppose it is pretty easy but if you are interested in the material and that is why you are taking the class, don't expect to get much out of it...
Didn't like her. Tabares--as well as the book she utilizes in class--is extremely conservative.
Her class is pretty intense. Do all assignments given, if if they aren't due. She gets a lot of her test questions from her handouts, assignments and readings. Overall I love her class!
Stay away from this teacher! Take George Yount instead!!!
i disliked her. i did all the class work(there is a lot) and got a's on the tests. and yet i got a b in the class because she took as many points away from me as she could (ex: i missed class for a school approved absence & she refused to give the full points on the assignments even after the deans were involved.) she can be vindictive, watch out!
Professor Tabares assigns a lot of work. We had a quiz every week, and one or two major assignments every week. Definitely NOT A CAKE CLASS, which isn't necessarily bad because she is a COLLEGE professor! Yes it's overwhelming at times and her exam questions are wordy so theyre not very clear. Assignements are involved but concise.
I enjoyed this class. She gives alot of assignments and reading, which can be difficult for some people but I love how alot of the assignments or discussions end up being questions on the exam, even the short answer ones. Also, I advice that while Tabares gives her lectures you take notes. Most of what she talks about in class are questions on exam
Answers every question fully! very professonal; only information no opinions promoted, and lesson plans give you a vast knowledge of the subject, seriously, take her classes!
Teacher is a great person.
Tabares is a great teacher. She's definitely not easy though. But do all the hw and study for the tests and you will get an A. She definitely makes it clear what her expectations are, so meet those and you'll be fine. She's very understanding, and is willing to work with you as long as you work with her. If you like political science take her class
She didn't make the material interesting at all. I was so bored during lectures so all the work she assigns was a constant struggle. As the semester went on I found her personality to be more and more unpleasant and difficult. One of me least favorite classes at ARC ever.
Be careful. She was nice enough if she likes you but if not she was very vindictive. I got marked down for every tiny thing possible. This is the worst grade I've received at ARC. Plus I was nervous since everything I said seemed to annoy her futher.
She is unpleasant and ridiculously harsh on students. She made my semester a miserable experience. Grades VERY VERY particular and docks tons of points for the most unfair reasons. If there is a problem, she stands firm, hardheaded and isn't helpful or reasonable. STUDENTS BEWARE!
I recommend taking her class if you are prepared to work seriously. This is a college level class with college level expectations. The professor is very professional and well informed, she tries very hard to make the assignments interesting and engaging. I worked very hard in this class, but I really learned.
I took this class online and was having problems doing well on the exams so I emailed the instructor and she gave advice that helped me do well on the remaining exams. She is a very caring instructor and it helped that I took this class with the election right around as it helped keep my attention about learning about our government.
She is a great teacher, with very helpful notes. I took her class online. Her exams are really hard, you really need to read all the material, and do her exercises to do well on her exams. She is very helpful, and compensates the students if she takes a long time grading
Teacher told the class that "grades are given as a courtesy." Really makes it clear that she is above you. Everything I learned from the class itself I could've learned from just reading the book without any instruction. If you're completely self sufficient, take the class online, and keep up with the syllabus.
Prof Tabares is very tough and seemed to be having some health issues that made her difficult to reach. I took the class online and struggled at first, calling her on the phone helped a ton. She wants her students to succeed and challenges them. Good class for online students, just ask for help and she'll gladly provide it.
While she's a nice person, she did not make the lecture/subject matter interesting at all! Political science is my major, so it was a bummer that she didn't teach it well. I sort of dreaded going to class.
She never shows up to class. When she does show up, she doesn't teach, she just assigns groups. All of the tests are hard because you are just teaching yourself the book. I would have rather taken it online and just not showed up to the classes, seeing as there is no difference. She is a flake, and never has a lesson plan.
Professor uses textbook heavily, all you need to do is understand the text and you should pass. Getting an A would be extremely difficult, test are hard. She is also a tough grader on the essays and exams. She promises to have grades posted or assignments returned but never has then on-time. I would pass on this professor.
I don't know how I was able to get an A in this class. It was pretty hard, and the teacher was pretty frustrating because she NEVER had anything graded on time. She expects her students to have everything turned in on time, yet she give excuses when it's time to post grades for us. I would pass.
She is a nice person, but is not very clear with what she wants us to have done. Heavily uses the textbook and expects us to remember everything on the exams. Grades are never posted and she is just too tough on her students. Take this class online, it'd be the same thing.
If you are not obsessed with Political Science then do not take her online class. Her tests are ridicolous and unless you have read the text many times over and over you then you will not do well on them. I feel as if she takes pride in creating trick questions to fool everyone. She is soo by the book that if you mess up on an assignment, she will
Dont take this teacher. PoliSci is my major and i absolutely hated this teacher!!! she was horrible! very unorganized but you can get a good grade in the class as long as u keep up with all the assignments and do the study guide. Easy A/B but you will hate going every time
AWFUL! Not worth $26/unit and the website subscription she makes you pay for. Seldom shows up to class. Doesn't grade exams on time (she said that she was "too tired." Really?) and her lectures are absolutely worthless. Showing up is a waste of time; she requires it anyway. Almost entirely relies on the textbooks. Quizzes/exams VERY inconsistent.
This class made me hate politics. She rarely talked about the material during lectures and instead would talk about current events such as budget cuts at school and anything unrelated to what we were supposed to be learning. If you value your life at all, DO NOT take her class!
If you have a deep interest in Politics, this is a very good class. I'm not a Poli Sci major and really needed to learn a lot about the field and can honestly say I learned A LOT! It was not an easy class but I never really expected all my grades to come easy and I can't begin to tell you how great you feel when you earn a good one in this class.
Her class is not that hard as long as you show up to class and do some of the reading. She is just horrable about grading assinments, essays and exams.
She is a decent teacher. This class does require work, but that's only to be expected from a college course. She is very knowledgeable and helpful. During lectures, she always asks if anybody has any questions about the topic she just covered. Do your work, and you'll be okay :)
The class was interesting and informative. The work and reading assignments are little on the heavy side but it was all easy. If you do all the reading and take notes in class it would be hard not to do well, besides there are some good extra credit opportunities in this class. She takes a while to grade tests and essays. She is a good teacher.
I found Prof Tabares to be very knowledgeable and never found her lectures to have any specific political bias. She has very high standards for written work, so students who aren't comfortable with writing at the college level may find themselves frustrated.
Professor Tabares is very enthusiastic. Her exams are a little hard, there are a total of four. There are also two essays and a few online homework assignments. I would have done better in the class if I just read the book more, but overall this was a good class.
I found her to be very hard to follow and uninteresting. If anything, I found her to be rather annoying as well. Her tests are difficult and ridiculous. I suggest a different teacher.
She has high expectations, but none that can't be met by reading the book and studying. She's a bit slow in the grading area, but a good teacher overall. You will be required to memorize A LOT of information in this class.
She has no business teaching. She is unclear in her teachings and has very high expectations and that will surely show in how critically she grades your assignments and essays. You are required to buy two textbooks and an online subscription (that she co-authors). The exams are very hard-- its like you're taking the board exams for med school!
Don't take this professor. She is the worst professor I've taken at Arc. Ridiculous exams where you are supposed to remember everything you've read in the book. Her online quizes are tricky, also she is a the harshest grader I've ever met. I'm an A student and stuggled so bad in her class. Don't recommend her to anybody.
Loading does not correspond to introductory class. You need to buy 2 books and subscription to website (where she is author!). 2 essays. Quizzes like: in which article/section of document mentioned this, require learning by rote. Despite this is online class you have fixed exams time. This is my first ever class dropped.
Tabares is a decent teacher. There's a lot of reading and materials required for the class, but if you stay on top of things you'll do fine. The exams are kind of difficult, but she allows you to open the quizzes and go back and work on it later. Don't sleep on her, if you skip assignments or readings you'll have a hard time passing.
Read the macterial + do the assignments pass the class. It's really as simple and easy as that. No reason not to succeed. :) Expect to read 1 chapter per week, assignments are assigned at the beginning of the week and due at the end of the week. No surprises.
I really liked Professor Tabares. I'm not big on politics and I didn't expect to do well, but I aced the class. Bottom line is, do the work and you'll pass. Also, ask for help if you need it! Professor Tabares is very understanding and she wants her students to pass, so take advantage of that. She is a bit slow on grading though...
She certainly knows her subject very well. I like her as a person, but her grading seems unclear at times. She's a master at D2L, and most of the assignments are on there. Just do the work she asks, and you'll pass. You certainly need to have an interest in this particular subject, otherwise I wouldn't recommend taking her.
Although the tests are a little tough there was enough small assignments that could easily sway your grade another way. I liked her class and with a lot of hard work I had no worries about passing the class in the end. She does answer questions promptly. Id take another class with her.
OKAY- forbids you to you use the restroom during class and holds you late after class, making you inevitably late to your next class. Her lectures are inconceivably uninteresting. It often felt like she was just standing in front of the class spewIng out marginally relevant information to sound more intelligent. It was really annoying. Don't take!
I'm taking her online class POLS 301 and I just finished my 3rd exam. Man, those Exam are hard. She gives you a very long study guide but the guide gives you an idea on where to study but not where to focus.2 text books, 1 online source are basic for this class, I mean, you are to read at least 2 chapters and other sources every week.
Very informative class, especially for those with little knowledge of government beforehand. Assignments and grading criteria are very clear cut, you know exactly what to do to get an A. The amount of work can be hard sometimes, but there are enough smaller assignments to make up for any bombed assignment
pros : Shes clear about the assignments so there aren't many surprises, cons: she grades harshly. The tests are hard, and the essays are graded like the tests and homework. Know everything presented word for word. Also materials are expensive there are two text books and a 25$ website subscription to the course. Its hard to make up points
Grading is extremely harsh but she does give clear directions about what she wants. MUST do the reading to be successful as her tests require word for word memorization. Really nice lady, very passionate about her subject, and she gets more relaxed as the semester goes on (not about grading, just her intense personality)
Each week we read one to three chapters (30 to 70 pages each), watched videos, read through online lecture presentations, completed graded assignments, participated in group discussions, and still took the normal amount of quizzes and tests. This is one of those professors that makes you work harder to make up for the fact that it's online.
She misses a lot of classes.
I highly recommend that students do not take this class online with this professor. The textbook and lectures are easy to understand, but the exams have nothing to do with the readings. The professor uses the exams provided by the textbook and the questions do not make any sense half of the time. Expect to study hard and still get a bad grade!
Four typed Case Study Reports on country study of your choice 4-5 pages in length, seven timed online reading quizzes on D2L, and a typed Final Research Paper 4-6 pages in length on a country of choice, group activities, and extra credit through RAD or WAC program. Teacher is energetic and passionate! Read textbook chapters! No midterm exams!
I don't recommend taking taking this class online. The information in the text book and lecture notes are easy to understand but the tests are extremely difficult and often do not reflect what is taught in the text. You will do a lot of reading (text, outside reading and watch videos). Be prepared to study for hours and still get a low grade.
Professor Tabares was my favorite professor I've had so far. She really cared about my grade, and even reopened the Dropbox just for me to submit my essay late. She responds to emails quickly. The class consists of about 5 essays submitted online, an online reading quiz every week (from the textbook), and a final project. Highly recommended!
lectures don't really give any information that helps with the exams. we just discussed questions people have about the political world today and pretty much nothing pertaining to the exams. Text book doesn't help with exams either even though you can use it on exams. have to look up information on your own time on top of weekly assignments.
I think Tressa is wonderful. She does not give the easy A, however. You have to learn the material and understand it. I enjoyed her lectures and her class very much. She is easy to get ahold of outside of class and truly cares about you succeeding. There is reading, however it's a political science class, not math or music. I recommend her!!!
in class group activities once in a while. weekly assignments are all online. so are exams. really recommend taking it online unless you are actually interested in political science discussions in class.
No way to really prepare for the tests. She gives a general outline and you can use the textbook for the exams(it's all online) but it's still pretty impossible to find answers in the book. Pretty much all work is online other than in class activities. Lots of technical issues with online assignments. Requires too much effort to do something simple
worst class ever. text book doesn't help at all on exams even though they are open book and online. they are also timed. take a different teacher unless you are already an expert in politics.
The tests are really hard and long always going against the the clock. Also lots and lots of reading material for this class.
I took this class online. Everything is clearly outlined. The chapter work and the discussion boards are self explanatory. The tests, however, are impossible to get anything higher than a C. The study guides and the textbook (which are allowed to be used on the text), do not help at all. The exam questions are worded in a manner that is confusing.
I am not going to lie here. The online course is a lot of work for a 3 unit class, I mean A LOT of work. Do not let that turn you off though. This class also happened to be one of the most important classes I have ever taken. The information presented needs to be learned and memorized by AT LEAST every U.S citizen. Lowest test score gets dropped.
This was a heavy loaded online class, you need to work for the grade. There is a lot of reading & I didn't fare well on the 1st or 2nd exam despite it being open book/note. I changed my strategy to hand writing notes from every page of the text, especially key terms & events page by page. This helped significantly & I recommend it for success.
Although the syllabus looked "easy" to manage, her Exams and Discussions are difficult. When you give your response to Discussions, she wants you to be very specific and her grading is a bit harsh at times. The Exams are hard to pass and with time constraints & having your computer screen monitored, it can be stressful. Don't skip ANY assignments!
I took her online class, very liberal so be prepared to hear some opinions. Gives a TON of hw and tests. Very boring and forces you to use an online textbook. Not very open and not easy to talk too...
This was the easiest class I have ever taken in my two years of college. I was only my phone all semester long and still got a 85% for participation. Everything you'll need to do will be online that's why I felt the need to not pay attention. Exams can be found on quizLIT. She drops lowest exam score and lets you not do two big assignments.
Professor Tabares is awesome. I took her class entirely online and it was fun and easy enough that I didn't have to struggle to survive. Just do what is assigned for the week and you're good to go. A lot of textbook work online and weekly discussion (you only have to complete 10 out of the 16 for the semester) definitely would take again!
She cancels class a lot. Lectures weren't very helpful, and grading feedback is late and not very useful, when it comes at all.
She is very goal-oriented and goes according to her provided syllabus. Replies within few hours if you have any concern or questions. A chapter per week with some other additional material. Don't cram it all in one day; do it over several days. Even though she had some personal problems going on, she still was very helpful and on-point. Take her!
For the most part, if you do all the homework and extra credit offered you should be fine. There is so much reading... Like this should be a 4 unit class. I prefer her to other teachers because the grading is clear and same work each week. Just overwhelmin amount of reading to the point where your brain is going to stop retaining information.
Prof. Tabares is great, but she takes awhile to grade things, but tries her best to stay on top of it. Lots of reading and homework. Allowed to use notes and text on exams. Offers extra credit.
Professor Tabares made the class interesting and I enjoyed the textbook that was used. A lot of reading and homework but interesting videos. Tests aren't bad and its a plus that it's open book and notes. Would definitely take her again, awesome teacher!
She doesn't give tests there's only essays and online homework. She's a bit of a tough grader. She rarely gives anyone 100% on any assignment. Work hard on the papers cause there are no tests to balance out your grade. She gives credit for coming to class, but class is really just review of the assigned reading the night before.
I work full time M-F and took the online version of her class. This class was HEAVY reading and the exams were tough. I got high Cs on all of the exams and studied my butt off. However, I still received an A in the class because I did all of my readings and HW. Just do the homework and the exams and you can get an A. Just be ready to put in work.
worst professor I've had so far. Nothing is taught in class, she always gets off topic or takes the entire class period going over one subject. weekly quizzes (answers in the book) I learned almost nothing in her class. You basically teach yourself by reading the book because she's NO help.
Shes usually an okay professor, but I dont know whats going on with her this semester. Shes cancelled classes a few times, way behind on grading, and her class is very boring. I already skipped her class a few times because she doesnt teach anything new. Im glad this is my last semester with her.
Honestly, this class can be completed by just reading the textbook and doing the online homework. There are no in class tests, but there are 4 papers that she grades pretty tough. Overall easy class, and she does take attendance by making you write a daily reflection.
First of all, this is one of the hardest online class I ever taken. Her exam worth 175 points, a total of 4 but drop one. So what makes it hard, she makes her own exam and its tricky. I honestly regret taking this professor because of how hard her exams are. The only thing I could boost my grades are the extra credit, discussion and easy quizzes.
Everything to pass the course is the textbook as she gives out online quizzes and her lectures are repetitive. She gives out written assignments and she is a tough grader on them, but does not specify how someone can receive a near perfect score. I skipped this class a few times because everything IS in the book.
There is a total of 4 exams , 4 quizzes, daily discussions, and homework on the textbook program she uses. Even though, I did bad on the exams I still can make up my grade from quizzes and discussion. My grade was a C, but she keeps dropping my discussion portions. If she haven't done that I can still get a B. Don't take this professor.
Highly time consuming class, not to be taken with many other classes because of unreasonable demands. Online only was the format I took this class without any assistance to the confusion navigating the nearly 50 pages of online instructions. Spent 8 hours the first weekend with this class alone.
Prof T is absent. She throws massive amounts of reading out instead of personal lectures or discussions. Then tests you on small obscure sections, or ties four things together and asks you to not only remember them all but compare them all on tests. Be prepared to memorize the constitution and then be tested on the duties of each elected official.
Disappointed. Professor Tabares's lectures are very repetitive, and everything she ever talks about is in the textbook. Lectures are very boring and dull. She is a tough grader, and it seems like no student can get full credit on the 4 papers. Papers dont get graded sooner than a month after submission
I took this class last semester. She doesn;t even lecture the material he just give us bunch of homework that might help us understand the material, but it doesn't. Base on the comments, below I totally agree. This professor isn't good if you want to learn political science in a friendly manner. I highly won't recommend you to take the professor
Prof Tabares is a good choice. She is very smart and gives her students a lot of respect and I enjoyed listening to her. Sometimes in class, however, she can drone on and on about nothing really, just talking in circles. Her class seemed to be self driven, what you put in is what you will get out. She is a good teacher and I recommend her class.
Like many of you, I also stumbled upon this website in order to decide which professor to take for POLS 302. Despite past reviews, Professor Tabares is great! Most of your grade is based on four written assignments, a final research paper, and textbook quizzes. Her grading is very fair and offers good feedback. Take her course for POLS 302!
I really enjoyed this class, there was allot of reading, but the reading was interesting. For the exam you have to study, and her "study guide" at the end of the modules are good. I would say make sure to set time aside to study don't do it the night before, the exams are for the most part multiple choice and some short answer. You'll be okay
I liked this course, but prepare to READ. The exams are okay if you study. There are lots of questions in the textbook in between paragraphs and some are used in the exam so there very useful. Just study and you'll be fine.
worst teacher I ever had I don't she demands alot for a political science class and she expected you to write paragraphs for her. Whatever class work I do is never enough from her she always comes out as a negative energy. I had to drop the class and find a better professor. I do not recommend her at all
Good class; can be done online. Be prepared to READ, for the love of GOD, LOTS of reading. She gives out written assignments she can be tough, but fair. She will work with you on assignments, be responsible, WKLY Quiz(s). Your papers most important. NO MIDTERMS! Want an A? Take this class ALONE or with one other class, my personal advice.
On one hand, prof T is very knowledgeable about what she teaches. If you have a question about something she can answer it in length. On the other hand, she is by far the toughest teacher I have ever taken. Workload can be overbearing and she is an incredibly tough grader. If you're in a situation where you absolutely need to pass, look elsewhere
If you are looking to take a political science class that is objective and unbiased, and learn about the framework of America and it's laws - this is NOT the class for you. She has an extreme left-wing bias that you cannot get around. This is NOT an intro to government class, this is an activism class and it's despicable.
Professor Tabares was amazing, she is so empathetic, well spoken, and educated on the topics often brought up in debate or discussion. She did a great job of always responding to emails and was very understanding. Had a lot going on when I took her class but I'd love to be in another Poly Sci class with her, She can get off topic in her lectures.
I am not finished with her course but I can already tell that she put a lot of time and work into making sure that her class is enjoyable on a subject that can be a bit of a bore for some people. She records her own lectures and tests on that information, which is always appreciated.
Professor Tabares is a great Political Science Professor. She will challenge you, especially if you are passionate about politics. You will learn.
Professor Tabares is knowledgeable, but her class can be quite demanding. Lots of reading and tough grading on written assignments. Utilize resources like the textbook and Unstuck ai to stay on top of the workload. Overall a challenging but rewarding experience.
The work load is crazy for an intro polisci class. Syllabus states 18hrs. dedicated to the class every week, might as well make it a part time job. Lost of reading, lots of random videos, doesn't feel like she is teaching at all. Really, just handing you information and hoping you comprehend. No study guides, but tests every week.
All of her lectures are heavily repeated, and all the readings she assigned, she never went over them she would only touch a sliver of it and then go onto the next topic. would not take again.
Most of her Lectures were a repeat of everything she has been saying since the beginning of the semester, she provides an online text book that she rarely touches about. A lot of the assignments are not related to the topics we talked about.
Not a teacher I recommend. Did not seem to care whether students succeeded or failed. Assignment after assignment of endless information that is just posted online. Zero teaching aspect besides reading a book and responding to discussion boards. ALOT of fill work.
Grades you on a fifty dollar online text book. Each week you get a zero percent on the book until you've completed it, it drops your grade every Saturday (assignments are assigned Saturday and due Thursday). Lectures are what the book says. Insane amount of dedicated hours for this class. Way too much for an intro to a subject.
