The amount of work for the whole ochem lab series is ridiculous and will take up so much time. He is new and has made the labs 100x harder and i hate him

SOOO BAD. Like so bad. I don't get why he makes a 1 unit class so complicated. Get ready to do a lot of homework and spend hours on lab reports. When you bring it up to him he'll tell you that you need to manage your time better. Awful

Syllabus is 13 pages. Quizzes, discussion assignments. Post lab, top hat, prelab, notebooks, final. 1 unit class, but this is the most work I had in any class ever. My 6 unit classes had less work. Please do students a favor and create a more efficient course. it's the worst structured course I ever took in college and with insane expectations.

Dr. Bolduc is seriously terrible. He assigns hours of work (top hat prelab and procedure questions, pre-lab quizzes, lab reports, and discussion questions) He also has an extremely strict rubric so the lab reports require so much effort every week. He sends convoluted emails every week and will drone on and on during his final review

pre lab quizzes hard for no reason and you don't even get to know what answers you got right or not. Final exam was obnoxiously hard

Workload is excessive for a 1 unit class, feedback and point deduction for the lab reports is excessive and arbitrary. He takes a long time to resolve issues and respond to emails about problems, and he gives no grace for extenuating circumstances.

Be ready for a huge, unnecessary amount of workload. You need to spend hours both before and after each lab. Grade scale is the worst ever in his class.

Seems nice, but workload is awful. All tophat work, canvas quizzes, and lab reports. The reports are graded harshly and the feedback sucks it won't help you in knowing/learning what you did wrong. I get having high expectations for students, but he has no flexibility and horrible feedback which just makes the class unnecessarily difficult.

SO BAD, TERRIBLE. The final exam was extremely hard, dropping my grade from a B+ to a C-.

Insufferable human being, does not care about his students grades or if they are responsible for their problems whether submission wise or understanding, will not help you in terms of fixing grading or understanding the course, assigns too much work for a 1 credit class, hope i get run over each time i come to this class period.

So rude as a professor, does not care about students, whether it be incorrect grading on assignments or if they have their own things going on. Even if you correct him on something, he will not acknowledge, will not reply to email, I get tempted to drink the chemicals in lab sometimes because of him

There is too much work for an 1-unit course, TAs approve your work completely, but you still get awful grades. Spend over 6-8 hours per week for this course; from canvas quizzes, tophat assignments, to post lab reports (which are graded super incorrectly, docking points for things that are not wrong). Class makes me want to get run over

This class is way too much work for a one unit class. He claims to have lab reports back in 5-7 days and I have no reports graded. I had him for 08LA/LB and both labs were too much work hours before and after the lab. For discussion q's, groups who turned in the same answers got different grades and when asked Bolduc punitively took off more points

NEVER replies to emails. Making a meeting is impossible bc no availability. Final Zoom review session consisted of him answering two questions and joking around about balls. Unprofessional. Many discrepancies in the grading. ex: discussion assignment, you are advised to work on it with friends, and they got 10/10, while I got 6/10. work heavy

The professor consistently demonstrated a lack of professionalism. Feedback was vague, grading felt arbitrary. When students asked for clarification, they were often met with condescension or dismissiveness rather than support. Overall, the course felt more like a test of endurance than an educational experience.

The was the worst lab experience of my entire academic career. Like what on earth are these quizzes everyone I've heard from is averaging 50% or below. His labs don't even line up with the lecture, which doesn't make sense as he also teaches lectures. He's not a bad guy but his lab needs to be greatly improved.

The final exam was extremely difficult—far beyond what was expected. Although it followed the structure of the practice final, the questions were significantly more challenging, to the point that it felt ten times harder. Many students struggled, with some scoring as low as 20%. That alone should give you an idea of how unreasonable this lab was.

good luck in this lab seriously! final is 30 percent of your lab grade and is very difficult!! lab grading is very harsh and isn't done by your lab TA so if your experiment was unsuccessful the grade you receive will not be good as the random TA will not know that. The lab includes more work than the actual course and is more difficult.

if you get him, good luck. he is a terrible coordinator and thinks all his goofy announcements are helpful and relatable, but they're just so out of touch. he has added unnecessary items to the syllabus, final is ridiculously hard. he holds a 3-hour final review session in which he only jokes around and solves maybe 2 questions out of 15.

Lectures were rushed, so he assigned hours long videos to watch outside of class since he wasn't able to finish teaching in class. Exams are very difficult due to him cramming info last minute & making it overwhelming to study. There's no curve. 0/5 lab coordinator as well.

The worst teacher at UCR. He consistently rushed lectures and his tests take up a majority portion of your grade in the class. The last two weeks before the final, he had so much material to cover that he posted hour long videos of new content, even up until the week of the final. Worst experience ever at this school.

First class I have felt like I was going to fail. Gave us the final practice exam two days before the real final. Super unorganized and rushed our lectures when we ran behind, leaving us multiple times with 3 hour videos to watch outside of class because he couldn't finish. Never clear on what was being tested, unorganized notes and schedule.

Spends most of the lecture inserting jokes or stuff about himself which adds to the workload needed to learn for his inefficient version of this course. Dr. Bolduc is unprofessional, unorganized, and goes too slowly in class to teach anything. He assigns 1-3 hours of mandatory videos to watch outside of class ALL with testable content. He uses too many colors on his slides to make sense. His midterms and final are way more challenging than anything seen in class. He makes crude/inappropriate jokes

He's been the most difficult professor I've had. I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt since he seems nice, but the workload was excessive and unreasonable. For the first time, I'm genuinely worried about passing a class, something I've never had to worry about before. That says a lot.

All the latest comments are sadly all true. This is the most worried l've ever been about whether I can pass a class. If I do pass, it'll be the hardest-earned C l've ever received- Everyone agrees, he's a nice guy. Practice exam match test layout, but are always harder. Pacing was the most atrocious thing I ever seen… and is the worst part.

Bolduc is a good person overall but as an organic chemistry professor, he is unbearable. All of the reviews are true. Don't take him.

after midterm 1, for every 1 hour of in-person lecture, there was 2 hours of take-home lecture. yaps a lot, very disorganized, canvas page makes no sense. i like him a lot as a person and a lab coordinator so i was really disappointed. i'd cut him slack for being new but it shouldn't be at the expense of my grade. i probably failed.

Seriously what the heck, I paid 15k an yr for education not standup comedy. every single lecture I had to hear every minute for an hour something about his life, his self dialogue, or his boyfriends in bed or something. Complete narcissist, I would wager he has a selfie of himself as lockscreen. And to top this off this dialogue goes into canvas .

Horrible teacher who rushed covering everything right before the final. Instead of actually teaching he made us watch HOURS of videos outside of class. His actual exams are way harder than the practice exams. Every morning of his test, I felt like I was gonna have a heart attack, he's not good for anyone's health.

He also makes you watch tons of online lectures again because his lack of time management throughout the lectures just don't take him wave your time your money and it would overall be better for your mental health.

Great person who cares about the class. Just is too optimistic about what can be done and what is expected of students. Rushes a lot, tough grader. If class is behind “schedules” assigns a few hours worth of videos over the weekend which then causes students to keep learning and not practicing. This cycle would continue for the quarter

This guy is the worst you could get in terms of university professors, like the bottom of the barrel. Crazy hard pre-lab quizzes that he won't even let you properly review for the final, a lot of stuff that you're kind of expected to just figure out on your own with harsh consequences on your grade if you make one mistake. Avoid this guy like the plague. Creates the most darn hard finals that tank your lab grade for no reason. I've had a 4.0 GPA going into his class but his final exam tanked my overall. I went through constant office hours, spent countless hours revising his reports, and constantly asking my peers for feedback. AVOID THIS PROFESSOR AT ALL COSTS!!

Most unnecessarily difficult lab course ever. Unclear lab reports, unclear rubric, and unfair TA-based grading highly dependent on the TA you get. Grades are not normalized to account for TA bias and lab reports can take easily over 3+ hours.

This was the worst professor I've ever had in my life its a one unit class, but it was more work than literally every other class I was taking combined. He's so ambiguous with his questions and expects you to do so much work for ONE single unit. It's not like he's teaching us a bunch of new information it's mostly tedious repetitive reports.

If you're hoping to actually learn something in ochem lab, avoid this class at all costs. He is the most disorganized, and disengaged prof I've encountered. Grading was completely arbitrary. He gave zero feedback, just random deductions with no explanation. If the goal of this lab was to make students hate chemistry he succeeded brilliantly.

Super unreasonable professor. His assigned workload is very unreasonable for the lab being only 1 unit. This class took more of my time than my two upper division math courses, bio course, and ochem lecture combined. Don't know who left this man in charge of labs that was a mistake.

An intense workload that crushes you with a brutal cycle of weekly simultaneous prelab (current week) and postlab work (last week). Pray for a lenient TA for better grades to cushion the blow from a searing lab final. Brace for sleepless nights and mental anguish. Without this class structure, the quality of life would improve for many students.

He is a horrible lab coordinator and professor. My TA said we are doing graduate level lab reports, and we are graded as such. There is probably 2+ hours of pre lab work and 5+ hours of post lab work EVERY LAB. He grades very harshly, and has 3 discussion assignments on top of this. I have had him for 3 quarters and 8A/B lecture and still hate him.

You know I'm glad that I'm done with bolduc labs. I'm sure everyone already knows that he assigns too much homework but to switch the final completely to what the practice was is absurd. Genuinely a shame that UCR still has this guy in charge of their ochem labs. Horrible in lecture and that correlates to his labs too.

The reviews aren't exaggerating. He has such unrealistic demands and there were many days where I was spending almost double the amount of time on Chem Lab assignments instead of my actual OCHEM class. I didn't think any of the content was hard but the sheer amount of assignments made it a brutal lab. Not to mention he is an annoyingly tough grader

Absolutelty atrocious grading. Depending on the TA, you get it can save or break your grade. Insane amount of work for one unit class. First class ive ever had the TA basically determines grade you get in the class. Bolduc screws students over by not making all the TA's grade similarly.

So much work for a 1 unit class, don't expect to get a good grade unless you have a good TA and lock in for every quiz/lab report.

No curving or scaling to ANY exam not even the class. Final was scheduled two days after the lab final. The last chapter which was taught three days before the final ended up being 1/4 of the exam. Exam is handwritten no mcq. This class tanks my grade and gpa so much.

So glad I'm done with him. Lab should be worth more credit or workload should be halved. I finally feel joy again now that I am done.
