Clicker questions every day in lecture. 3 exams plus the final. Homework assignments once a week with pre lecture quizzes every tuesday/thursday and a post homework quiz on Monday. Overall pretty easy class, exams were a bit difficult.
Very friendly and is good at covering all test material during lecture. Will hold review sessions before tests that are very helpful
He is the man, super friendly and easily one of the best intro teachers around. (and it was his first year teaching), very helpful, responds to e-mails almost immediately, and cares about your success.
Best professor! really cares about his students and wants you to do well. offers minimal extra credit but homework's arn't bad at all. I used to hate chemistry but now enjoy it way more because of him!
Dr. Daly was one the greatest professors I have had. He gave 3 exams and 1 final all of which were easy if you studied. The class was interesting and he truly did care. He wanted you to do well. Homework every week, and online quizzes every monday. One of the best teachers, I would recommend to everyone.
Daly was great, I would have done a lot better in class if I actually did all of the readings. Assigned homework every week and an occasional quiz but nothing bad. Attendance was graded. Handed out lecture note guides which helped a lot. I would have taken again but all of his slots for 108 got filled up.
Trevor is my favorite. I hated chem in high school so bad because of a teacher and was so nervous to be in chem again. After chem107 with him, I made my spring schedule specifically around having him again. Study for exams and do the homework and you should be fine. I honestly like chem as a subject now because of him so thanks Trev :)
I LOVE DALY. By far the best Chemistry professor in UD. He truly cares about his students and wants you to succeed. Chem is definitely hard but he makes it bearable. If you prepare for exams well you will be fine, he gives enough hw and online quizzes that your grade balances out. I got 75's on every exam and I still got a B+.
Daly is a very solid Professor. He is the only chemistry professor Ive had, but from feedback of my peers he is the best chemistry professor. He does a really good job of breaking down lectures and preparing for the exams, but exams make or break your grade in the class. He drops the lowest exam grade, but it is hard to get an A in the class.
Took Dr. Daly for 107 and 108, he is the best chem professor!! If you pay attention in class and do the online homework/ quizzes you will do well. He explains things very clearly in class and makes sure that the class understands. Very kind and easily approachable person. More professors should be like him. Highly recommend.
DO the readings and try to do the homework without notes and you will do well. He gives skeleton notes, but add side notes for yourself. He is really passionate on about the subject, which is why I found him to be such a great professor.
Gives good lectures, gives lecture handouts, gives practice problems during class. Its a hard course so you have to study hard in order to get a A. He is really nice and willing to help whenever you need it.
He's a genuinely good teacher who seeks to see his students succeed, and does not want to punish you, but definitely not a pushover. I do genuinely enjoy going to this class, and if you pay attention during class you should get all the information you need to pass the class. It does always help to have a basic understanding of chemistry beforehand.
He is an amazing professor. Do whatever it takes to be in his class. You won't regret it. He always has office hours, always thoroughly answers questions and makes sure the student understands before moving on.
Great professor!!! Super kind and always willing to help students individually when they are confused.
Daly is a capable professor with a high receptivity to change. He taught the Chem 112 course I took and conveyed the material competently and clearly. He has a high degree of mastery of the material and conveys it effectively. He is extremely receptive to change and will make additions and changes based on feedback. Highly recommended.
He teaches everything you need to know during class and I found him to be one of my favorite chemistry professors. People complain this class is hard, but if you go to class and look around everyone is on their phones so... pay attention!
Such a good lecturer and teacher! His class was over 120 students and he broke topics down so that everyone of all skill levels could understand each topic. He really cares about his students. He is the BEST professor of my first semester in college.
Professor Daly is awesome! He made CHEM 111 super understandable. The workload is 100% doable, and he is very willing to help with any topic you are stuck on. His teaching style is the perfect mixture of lecturing and class participation. Exams do require a lot of studying and can be hard, but a lot of grades are put in to help your grade.
Dr Daly is amazing. He is so organized and you can tell he cares about what he is teaching. He goes through subjects in a logical organized manner which helps you learn the material. Also he does a lot of interactive iClicker stuff with the class which helps when it comes time for the test. Such a great teacher!
great prof
Dr. Daly has a great interactive teaching style, even with such a large class. He uses iClickers in class, and the homework and weekly quizzes help prepare you for exams.
Dr. Daly is a great prof. The class was not too bad if you took AP Chem in High School. The exams are not too challenging and the final is just an ACS exam. There are also lots of clicker participation so go to class. Also sappling sucks but you should still do the homeworks.
Dr. Daly was the nicest professor I've ever had. The subject was a little hard but Daly did his best to make sure everyone understood. He does a lot of extra credit opportunities and replaces the lowest test grade with final. Always willing to help any student at any time. Great professor. Taking him again for CHEM108.
With little chemistry background coming out of high school, I found CHEM111 to be very challenging. I took CHEM111 my freshman year and this was Professor Daly's first time teaching it. Lectures and discussions were fine, but when taking exams I often felt as if the material on them was not discussed in class, leaving me to do poorly overall.
Having taken AP Chemistry, Chem 111 was not very challenging. However, Daly made the class enjoyable.
I frequently went to Dr. Daly during office hours for help during the semester with specific questions on homework. I would go to him only after checking the lecture slides and textbook, and I attended class every day, but he was never able to answer my questions and always redirected me back to the other resources, like he didn't know the material
Dr Daly is the absolute best professor. He really cares about his students and is always willing to help you out. If you attend lectures and actively pay attention you will do fine in the class.
Daly is a great professor especially if you have a basic understanding of chem. His lectures are a little difficult to sit through but you learn a lot by paying attention. Youll pass if you pay attention!!
Dr. Daly is the single best professor I have ever had, and I am writing this a year after taking him. There is nobody that is more genuinely caring, straightforward, and wants you to succeed. Go to office hours and use the resources you are given, and you should be able to finish with an A.
Hated chem in high school, but he's an amazing professor so far. He's really understanding about the whole online set-up. His lectures are really nice and he works through all practice problems with the class before moving on. Readings for class aren't terrible. A lot of assignments to help boost your grade if you don't do well on exams.
one of the best chem professors. Really cares about his students and teaching them, willing to answer as many questions during class time. Not a ton of homework, but none of it is busy work (all of it helps your understanding of the topic). Utilizes class time well
One of the BEST professors ever. If you have the chance to take Dr. Daly please do. He gives you everything you need to be successful in this course. There are lecture slides you can follow along with, practice exams, and reading guides.
Daly is one of the best professors I've ever had... first time I've ever enjoyed Chemistry over any other class!!! So approachable and very understanding of students needs. Very effective teaching and is always available for extra help. Must do the textbook readings to do well in class!
I liked him! However, I am not really good with chemistry so I kind of struggled with the class. He is a very good teacher though and very caring, and makes sure students understand the content. Make sure you review your notes every night though.
Dr. Daly is amazing! He really cares about his students doing well. He explains problems very well in class. Exams are fair. Short quizzes each week are also fair. Homework graded for completion each week. I love this man.
He's *OK*. I had to definitely consult sources outside of lecture (youtube, sometimes textbook). But lectures are short so it's not entirely his fault. He is great at taking questions and the tests are not bad if you study (for the online version, anyway). Quizzes every week that are graded out of 8 points suck a little but I guess they even out.
Professor Daly is literally one of the best teachers I've ever had. He is an amazing explainer and excellent lecturer. He provides lots of practice during class time and actually teaches instead of giving us busy work or putting us in breakout rooms. His tests are not too bad if you pay attention in class and do all the assignments.
Dr. Daly is a great professor. He explains tough topics pretty well and is fair with the amount of assignments he gives. In addition, he responds to emails and is not a stubborn grader (corrects mistakes on tests, etc). CHEM108 in particular was just a difficult class(It was much harder than CHEM107) but Professor Daly did his best in teaching us.
Dr. Daly is a really nice professor. His lectures are detailed and he explains things really well. Exams and assignments are reasonable.
Daly is a great professor, his exams are challenging and you have to study very well to be prepared. Guy is goated
His lectures were very informative and his PPTS are available to you which helped me focus more on what he was saying in class. He is very helpful in office hours as well. His tests are very fair but that does not mean you cannot study for them. HW and quizzes every week to enforce material. If you put in the work, your grade will reflect that!
Love him
Great teacher! Very helpful through email and office hours. Provides very good explanations. Lectures are well-composed and helpful for studying. Exams are fair but studying is ABSOLUTELY necessary for a good grade on them. HW's and quizzes are hard sometimes bc they do not accurately represent materials from lectures. Don't really need the book.
Dr. Daly was one of my favorite professors. So accessible outside class time for anyone who needed help, and his lectures were always interesting and understandable even over zoom.
Dr. Daly is one of the best chem professors Ive had. Hes really good at explaining the material thoroughly and if someone still doesnt understand hell explain it more. Theres two pre-quizzes each week before the class, so make sure you read the textbook because those are easy points.
Daly is really good at explaining concepts thoroughly, we had one weekly homework assignment, pre-class quizzes due before lecture, and one post quiz due a week. The exams are not terrible if you do the practice exams and we could have a notecard. Daly is also really helpful during office hours if you need extra help.
I kinda am bad at chemistry, but the homework and participation grades bring up your grade. If your homework grade is 100%, then your participation grade turns into a 100%. Overall though, def recommend going to the lectures- they were pretty good. At the end of the semester, he curved our class by 3%. Exams and quizzes were not that bad.
If anyone went to concord high school, Daly reminds me or Mr. Patent, but in a good way. He is very willing to help his students and he clearly goes over homework concepts in class to boost understanding. Overall a very nice guy and would 100% take him for every chemistry class if it was possible.
Even though I hated chemistry in high school and this class has my lowest grade, it is my favorite class of the semester. Dr. Daly is so caring and you can tell he truly wants his students to do well. If you go to him for help outside of class, you will see that he is so kind and really loves what he does. Definitely get Daly if you are taking chem
Loved taking CHEM103 with him! His lectures are very clear and he walks around to help if you need. If you pay attention and take good notes, the course should be easy. Lots of math involved in the course but he gives lots of practice problems with both smartwork assignments and additional problems at the end of the slides. Highly recommend!!
Daly was a great professor for chemistry lecture and kept his students motivated throughout the semester. His classwork is manageable but exams can be hard. He offers fair grading and extra credit. He made going to chem class enjoyable and is very nice.
Dr. Daly was extremely kind and wanted to see all of his student's succeed. His exams are extremely difficult, but participation and homework assignments make up for it. He also offers a lot of extra credit opportunities, which helped save my grade. I have never been good at chemistry, but Daly guided me to getting a decent grade!
Prof Daly was the best professor I've had so far! He truly cares about his students and wants everyone to succeed. There are a lot of assignments, but as long as you stay on top of them you should be okay. Do them early! The exams are hard but if you study and get the help you will be fine. There are plenty of resources to succeed.
Very helpful
Daly is one of the nicest professors at UD. He is always understanding and very helpful when students are confused. The class is challenging but if you attend his office hours he's amazing at explaining concepts.
Awesome professor who really cares about his students. I had him for both chem103 and chem104, and there is a textbook, but I never used it. He gives a lot of assignments, but that is good as it really fluffs your grade as long as you do them. You don't have to come to every class, but I recommend you do as his lectures are entertaining and helpful
Daly was the best professor I've ever took. I've never thought I would be able to understand chemistry but with his help I do. He is always willing to help his students when needed. You definitely can succeed when you PUT THE WORK IN- go to class, go to office hours and study- topics kinda build up on each other so stay on top of the work.
Well respected and loving teacher. Clearly has a massive love for chemistry and teaches in a way that makes clear sense. Has review days and offers assistance towards his students. Tests are fair as long as you pay attention in class. My favorite stem teacher so far and would highly recommend.
He is nice but his teaching style is not for me. I felt very underprepared for his exams based on lectures only. There's a lot of poll everywheres but they are very basic questions and not even close to what is on quizzes and exams. Homework boosts your grade but has relatively no connection to exams or quizzes as well.
Could not have asked for a better professor for my first year of chem. Daly is understanding, nice, and genuinely good at teaching - something that is sadly rare. (Make sure to use his slides to study for exams). His tests are difficult and the class is not the easiest, but you will get out of it what you put into it. Highly recommend.
Great
Dr. Daly was such a good chemistry professor, he really helped me understand chemistry! I made sure to take his Chem 104 class next semester! Recommend taking his class if you have to take chemistry!
Very nice professor and actually takes his time to explain topics thoroughly. Kind of a lot of work outside of class but it's beneficial. Powerpoint slides and practice exams are very helpful for studying. Exams can be a bit tough but if you do the work and study you should do fine. He has office hours and genuinely wants students to do well
one of the BEST professors at ud! he really cares about his students and tries to incorporate jokes into his lectures so they don't seem as dreadful. the exams are easy as long as you do the homeworks and attend class. very sweet and funny prof! took chem103 and chem 104 with him and did not regret it.
Daly was always available outside class. The class was nice with homeworks having unlimited tries. Participation is important to understand the topics and also because it is a grade. Very similar to BISC207 if you're taking Integrated Bio/Chem, is that the tests are very crucial to your grade. If you want a 95+ make sure you do good on the tests.
Dr. Daly was really nice and a good professor. There is a lot of work outside of class (weekly homework, post/pre class quizzes). Some may say the exams are really though but if you do the practice exams and get help on topics you are confused on you will do fine. Overall I thought it was a good class and would recommend!
Honestly, he's a great professor and explains everything well in lectures, but pay attention. He does give some homework but it's best to finish it early. Also, the homework is great practice cause for me Chem isn't easy so it helped. His tests were really hard and I tried to at least score 70s or higher.
Super nice guy who wants students to do well. It's a hard subject but his lectures are great and offer many practice problems. But he does use pollev for a grade so try to attend every class. Exams are difficult but if you study you will get a good grade.
Dr. Daly is very understanding. He knows he teaches a difficult class, but tries to make it as attainable as possible to get a good grade. Exams can be tough, but he allows a notecard.
My favorite profesor at UD. Easily accessible outside of class, great sense of humor, teaches the material very well. He understands the material is tough, and the homework your assigned will help you understand it for the 3 exams he gives. He drops the lowest exam, which is replaced by the final. You will not regret taking Chem with him :)
Very good lectures that described the material well. Tests were a little challenging compared to CHEM111 but not too terrible.
Prof Daly is a pretty good professor. In lectures he doesnt really explain the material very well but if you go to office hours he's able to better explain it. What helped me through the course was really just teaching myself the content (because the content itself is not that hard).
Professor Daly is an amazing professor. He really cares wether or not you understand the topics. The material can be challenging however, it's not too harsh if you study. If you're going to take chem103 or chem104 I absolutely recommend him. Definitely my favorite professor thus far
exam are way tougher than the lectures and discussion session. He is nice and takes alot of polls during lectures.
Has practice exams for each exam except the final. The final is HARD. Do not underestimate the exams, always add the graphs from lectures on your cheat sheet. Homework is often confusing and will be hard to get through. But Daly is a great professor and is great at explaining any problem. Tutors are awesome and helped me understand lots of topics.
Dr. Daly's lectures were always very well organized and hyperfocused on precisely what he wanted you to get out of that day. The exams, quizzes, and finals were no joke, but if you study for them, you should be fine. He is also very caring; the syllabus stated that 93% was an A for the course, but after finals, he lowered it to 91%.
Dr. Daly was a great intro chemistry professor. He explains things clearly and gives people enough time to solve the practice problems on the board during lectures. He provides weekly homework which isn't too bad and can help boost your grade. His example exams are a life-saver.
In UD halls where scholars convene, There walks a man of wit and noble mien, Professor Daly, sage of chemic lore, Whose mind doth shine as bright as heaven's floor. So let us praise this noble sage of old, Whose charm and wit are worth more than gold. For in his presence, knowledge doth increase, And in his wake, all hearts find gentle peace.
I would not recommend taking this class. The tests and quizzes are very difficult. Although for tests he gives us an outline of the topics it will cover, we do not review or get practice questions and the tests are extremely difficult. Attendance is mandatory and even if you have an excused absence and a doctors note, he still takes points off.
super helpful!
There are no excused absences. The lectures were long and boring, but he did give a lot of time to work through problems in class but he barely went through the questions. Tests were so hard, but weekly quizzes can bring your grade up. I never felt like he knew how to help me or answer my questions. poll ev is easy points, but you can't miss class
Dr.Daly is a very kind professor who wants his students to succeed He is very helpful not only in class but also out of class during office hours. If you don't understand something, that's okay, he won't judge you for it at all. His exams are basically everything we did in class or on homework, so as long as you do well on those, you'll be okay.
Best chem professor! He explained the concepts super simply and had homework that counted for completion. He was super sweet and caring. He also curves most exams. I wish I could take him again.
Dr. Daly is a great professor, especially if you've taken AP Chem—this class will feel like a breeze. I skipped lectures, as PollEvs often dominate and take up time. Homework isn't too lengthy, though it includes some odd questions. The lectures are boring. With exams worth 55%, his fair grading and teaching make it an easy A.
Dr.Daly is the best chemistry professor here at UD. As long as you study and put in the time, exams are easy and the hard work pays off. Make sure to attend office hours as they are VERY beneficial. Also, take time and do the practice exams as those questions are best way to prepare. All in all fantastic professor!
Daly is such a goat. You can do really good in this class if you pay attention to his lectures and his quizzes and exams are pretty fair.
This class was really easy. He goes very slow through all the problems and the homeworks are pretty straight forward. Nice guy but his lectures can be a drag.
Every chem class should be like this. Straightforward lectures, pre- and in-class guides that helped prep for exams, approachable during office hours. Chem workshop definitely helped, but Dr. Daly went out of his way to make it a positive learning experience for everyone. Very hard final but overall definitely recommend taking this class.
Dr. Daly is a very sweet professor who makes his lectures digestible for every student, which means that the pace is a little slow, but it's not the biggest problem. There are quizzes and homework nearly every week, but they're not too bad. Pay attention in lecture and study and you'll be fine.
Dr Daly is a great teacher. He really cares about his students and is good at explaining things when you ask him questions. The course is challenging but if you keep up with the work and ask questions when you don't understand something then you will be okay.
one the best profs u will ever have.
study hard and see the results. great teacher
great professor so much information and very helpful. made chemistry F U N !
I am a senior, been here for 4 years... he's the best professor I've ever had. TAKE HIM for 103 and 104
I didn't take AP Chem, so I felt at a disadvantage. You won't learn much just from lectures—attend office hours and the tutoring center. The lectures can be boring, and he provides little pre-lecture work, unlike Biology. You'll need to teach yourself a lot. He's a nice guy who wants everyone to succeed; just advocate for yourself!
I would definitely recommend this professor, he does go really slow through his lectures but that way you won't fall behind. Can be boring at times but makes hard chemistry topics super easy to understand. Also he allows cheat sheets on every exam.
He was amazing. So caring and genuinely wants you to succeed. Take him!!
Dr. Daly is one of the nicest professors I've had here. He makes the material digestible and is so kind when you have questions. The exams are most of your grade but combined with workshop and class participation, and misc. assignments it should balance your grade. The material is difficult which isn't his fault but he makes it bearable. 10/10!
He is such a good teacher and he's so nice when answering questions. His lectures are really easy to understand.
He is seriously one of the best teachers I've ever had. He explains things so well and although the lectures are boring, if you pay attention you will pass the class. He goes through each lesson at a good pace for no one to fall behind and is super accessible outside of class.
hes nice and all but honestly hes just so boring in lecture u have to try hard to stay awake, you will get thru one page in lecture thats how slow he can be, its actually PAINFUL use his practice tests to study, but honestly prepare to cry after each exam.
such a great guy!!! Prof Daly genuinely cares about all of his students and wants to see everyone succeed. he teaches at such a great pace and makes everything easy to understand. there's a couple assignments per week, but other than that the workload is light
Lectures were very interactive and if you sought help during or after class he was helpful. The exams were definitely math heavy but practice exams definitely helped. Practice, practice, practice and you'll do great, letting things go over your head will cause confusion on the exam.
