I really enjoyed this class. He is professional and highly intelligent, but he has us call him Trevor and jokes with us everyday. There is lots of reading, but most of it's not too dry, and there's lots of interesting in-class discussion. There is a few essays. As long as you read the material and take notes during instruction, you should be fine.
Grades on papers are tough but fair. Offers many opportunities to meet with him outside of class to work on papers. Interesting personality, but funny and easy to connect to. Very relaxed setting (he asked that we call him Trevor).
He is a funny dude. He is very knowledgeable about anything and everything. Get on his good side and do your work. He is a very tough grader but gives you more opportunities to fix mistakes.
There were two main papers, and they were graded very hard, but he gave lots of opportunities to meet with him outside of class for extra help. The first day he can scare you by saying how difficult the class will be, but just do the work and follow his instructions and you'll be okay.
I have mixed opinions about Trevor. He is great with lecturing and giving feedback on your work. However, he is an extremely harsh grader and part of that is due to his "secret" rubric. So, if you can afford something other then an A and want to improve your ENG, definitely take his class. If you need an A for GPA reasons, pick another professor.
Overall, I enjoyed Trevor. He is a very intelligent individual who made classes interesting and engaging. He is a very difficult grader, but he did allow us to submit re-drafts until we obtained our desired score. Appreciated that. Also, he seemed to grade a lot easier on the last paper. There were times where I was afraid for my grade though.
So so smart. He describes everything very well. He doesn't respond to emails well and grades very hard.
My biggest regret is not taking advantage of his office hours sooner. If you want an A on a written paper, which is majority of your grade in UNV-106HN, you will 100% have to go to his office hours. He is dedicated if you put your time into his class/office hours, If you want an easy grade don't take his class. He allows you to redo papers.
Trevor is a nice guy, but he makes things way harder than they need to be!
Trevor may be a tough grader, but he explains everything well in class and gives you all the tools you need to get a good grade. If you pay attention and put the time into his class, you'll do fine. He's also very entertaining during lectures.
First off, do not listen to him when he says this class is not an English class, because you literally only write papers and read books the entire semester. He was one of the hardest graders I have had, and not for a good reason. Took points off my position paper only because he did not side with my position. Would not recommend taking him.
Trevor's awesome. When he teaches, he always associates one event with another to help his students remember the information. Do well on his midterm, attend lecture, and get AT LEAST all B's on the essays and you will have an A in this class. He's a difficult grader but gives you a chance to do redrafts. He is more than fair. Funny dude, too.
He is a great professor. An acquired taste for some people but interesting and to the point. His class was a lot of work but it was possible and he made it clear that if you worked for the grade you wanted you would get it.
BE WARNED. Class with Trevor is not easy at all, especially for a 100 level class that everyone has to take. The papers were hard and the grading was harder. But he had writing labs before each paper was due, which helped us all get better grades. If you go to those, don't take the criticism personally. He is brutally honest but a good professor.
Trevor is a great guy who cares about his students. However, he will make you work and understand the subject because he cares. The papers are weird to write at first and not much help is given on how to adjust, but over time he becomes an easier grader and will try to help. If you don't want to work, don't take him but if you want to learn, do.
Very tough grader but overall great professor. He is dry at times but is truly concerned about the students. I unfortunately had to drop but he was helpful through everytthing.
He's a cynic, but brutally honest, which is helpful for writing papers. He has a very deep internal sense of justice and fairness, which is nice for grading. Generally, he's not a bad teacher, but a bit arrogant. You have to get used to his personality and not take anything he says personally. It's a fun class, but very essay and reading heavy.
If you want an A, you must go to office hours BEFORE you turn in any of your papers which are a majority of your grade. There is a lot of reading and writing and it gets super boring to sit in class. He cares about his students but he wants you to work for an A. If you want an easier professor just drop honors it doesn't help you that much anyways.
He is pretty tough when it comes to grading but he does give goo feedback, and on some of your papers allows redrafts, if you work for it. He really cares if you read the material you are supposed to and that you participate in discussions in class, overall a good professor if you are willing to do your work.
Tough grader, he wants to challenge you and wants you to challenge yourself. Ask for help if you need it!!
Professor Trevor makes you work for your grade and he is a very hard grader. However, he will help you if you are willing to put in the work. His lectures were interesting and fun.
Trevor's tough but helpful if you want to get better with your writing. I got a C on the first essay I wrote for UNV106HN in his class and ended ENG206HN with an A on my proposal paper. He is committed to helping his students; even as a PhD candidate he stays at GCU past 3 in the morning to help us redraft for a good grade.
Trevor is a great professor who is very passionate about giving his students a quality education. If you are going to school to learn how to better yourself and learn, I would highly recommend him, but if you are looking for an easy A, find someone else. He is a harsh grader, but gives everyone the opportunity to rewrite their essays.
My experience with Professor Duston is summed up by this statement he made in class: "I will be doing specific activities in this class that make you look stupid because watching people fail is entertainment for me." -Professor Duston. This was University Success, but the purpose of the professor was the opposite of this.
Professor Duston's grading expectations were inconsistent throughout the course. When questioned about why a paper was graded for things that were not expressed on the rubric, he mentioned that the rubric was incorrect. He then proceeded to email himself to change the rubric that he had already given the class to base their papers on.
Class with Trevor was probably one of the most frustrating things I have had to do. Trevors method of teaching involves explaining what hes looking for AFTER the assignment is graded. However, he is helpful in office hours so go to them before the assignment is due (and after to understand why he graded it that way) to save your grade!!
Professor Duston gave me a failing grade on an essay without filling out the rubric or giving me an explanation as to why.
SWITCH OUT! Grading is incredibly inconsistent and expectations are never discussed until after grades are inputted. Lectures have nothing to do with the assignments, just random tangents he goes off on, bragging about his intelligence. The reason I am dropping out of honors. Would never suggest this class to anyone.
Trevor is a great professor who is knowledgeable about everything so he is ready to discuss absolutely anything with his students inside or outside of class. He is a difficult grader, but he is always willing to help you and if you apply yourself your writing is guaranteed to improve. If you actually want to benefit from a class, take Trevor!
He is a good teacher! Always offers help outside of class. Directions for assignments are always clearly stated.
Dope, hilarious & chill, but don't be fooled. Very knowledgeable/experienced, & doesn't take BS. Class was overall intriguing, but tedious, & a lot of hard work. Genuinely wants students to be successful, & encourages you to see life from new perspectives. Walked away enlightened and motivated, but also relieved that it was over!
Hey! Gotta say Trevor is an amazing professor. I am a freshman this year and took his class without any expectations or even looking on rate my professors. Those that looked got a little scared. You definitely need to put in the work but honestly, he is very approachable if you have questions. If you put in the work you will be just fine.
I would want to be in his class again if he wasn't such a hard grader! If you are looking for an easy A or a walkthrough, take anyone but him. He will challenge you and his goal is to make you better. He thinks of himself as a God almost and separates himself from most people. His lectures were interesting though. He will help if you want it though
Trevor is one of the best professors I have ever had. If you are a goody-goody you might not like him because he likes to joke and give you a hard time. If you want to be treated like an adult and not a Child and actually be successful in life, take his class. He honestly wants nothing but the best for his students. Plus you can call him Trevor.
Do not recommend at all. He is such a bad professor, lectured every class and the lectures had to do with nothing relevant. He grades the essays so hard and gives no feedback as to how you can improve. I got As in all my other classes and on all my other papers but no matter how hard I tried I could not get a good grade on ANY assignment.
I liked professor Duston a lot. His lectures were not very interesting and he went on lots of tangents, but he does his best to help his students succeed. He provides re-writes for papers and will usually have you write a paper about why you should get the grade that you want in his class. I would recommend him.
Professor Duston provides really good feedback and has definitely improved my writing. You will have to work for your grade. He is very growth-oriented and wants his students to do well. Don't hesitate to ask him questions or see him during office hours.
Trevor is a smart professor who knows what he's talking about. He is a tough grader and if writing is not one of your strengths, I would not recommend taking him. I would only take him if you believe that you are strong writer and can learn new concepts quickly. Trevor is not scary. He is super nice and wants to help his students. He's funny too.
Trevor is awesome! I took his UNV-109 class and then took him the next semester for ENG-206 because I learned a lot and wanted to keep learning. Trevor pushes his students to think very logically. He's very data-focused and wants students to see the world around them in terms of the data. He can talk with anyone on any subject. You'll love him.
Trevor is a tough grader but he gives super detailed feedback if you go to office hours or ask questions in class. I was able to bump my final grade up because he allowed everyone to resubmit the final paper if they didnt like their grade. His class wasnt easy, but I learned a lot and I think Im a better writer now because of it.
Do not take this professor. I took him for ENG206HN. He is incredibly arrogant and when you go into office hours to ask him a question he gives vague feedback. I received C's on both essays, and in previous English classes I had received A's. I had to email the Department Chair so I wouldn't lose my scholarship and get a C in English.
I felt that he was very harsh on grading and it was intimidating to get C's on essays when I received A's in my dual enrollment high school English courses. He is very picky about how he wants the paper done. I went to his office hours three times a week when I had his class. For not being a crucial class for my major, it was very difficult.
This class was difficult for me, but I learned so much about how to write logically. I use so many things Trevor taught me in every paper I write for classes now. Some may claim that he is too tough, but if you attend class, read the books, go to office hours, and put in work you can receive a good grade. He makes you work for it, but I learned.
All the people who leave good reviews are most likely this professor's favorites. YES HE DOES HAVE FAVORITES. he never gives clear instructions on what he is looking for and will grade very harshly. In office hours he is unhelpful and does not provide any assistance
Profesor Duston is kinda the worst! I would recommend literally anyone else for UNV because he grades so much harsher than everyone else, and is kinda a difficult human being to survive around. He assigns work that other professors dont and that dont contribute to class. Waste of time.
Trevor is a great professor, but he is focused on his class only. Discussion questions are busy work in my opinion and the class discussions are often not helpful for the assignments that you have.
Honestly, I really hated his style of teaching at the beginning of the year, but I think I actually learned how to write better papers. He genuinely cares that you learn in his class and I think that makes him a good teacher. He is a tough grader and you have work to do like writing dqs. If you want an easy A don't take his class.
I enjoyed going to class and the lectures were entertaining and very educational. However, the homework load was a lot, and the grading felt unfair. I thought some of the instructions were unclear for the assignments.
I would not recommend this instructor at all because he was extremely rude, did not care about his students, and was not very clear on his instructions. He was also not very clear on feedback. It was a terrible semester with him because I often could not figure out what I could do better. BEWARE! He teaches English classes too! Do not take him!
Trevor Duston is not for everyone. Despite feeling confident in my writing abilities before his class, it was very hard to get an A. If you want a challenging class that will cause you to become a better thinker, analyzer, and writer, take his class. If you are fine with your writing abilities and want an A, I would not recommend taking him.
Duston is a super intelligent and thoughtful guy, but he is honestly grading lower level courses way too hard. It is partly the courses content but I also found the level of grading and reading to be absurd. If you're looking for a challenge then take him.
Duston is an extremely smart guy and you can tell he loves what he does. He is just an unnecessarily impossible grader and definitely picks favorites. Every other UNV109HN teacher is extremely lenient and I had to work 10x as hard as any other student taking this class with a different teacher.
Professor Duston is a great professor. He is hardcore right away, but only because he cares. He wants to set his students up for success by being tough. I found this very helpful for my college career. He asks lots of questions during lectures and keeps the class engaged.
He is a hard grader, but if you go to office hours and ask for his feedback, he is more than willing to assist you. I had him for a class one semester and switched into one of his classes the next semester. He is very nice and is sometimes very funny. He is very engaging and not boring. He does not lecture the entire time.
Professor Duston was always available to answer questions and provide advice for assignments. However, the instructions to the assignments were fairly confusing and were broad. Does not keep up with grades, only updates majority of them for midterms and finals. Also, lots of reading.
Great professor, very open mind it, and want you to succeed in the class. He grades always to your benefit and provides good feedback. You do read a lot, mostly 3 chapters every week or class depending on the schedule. To be honest, I did not read the whole book and still was able to write essays and get a good great, but want an A, do read.
Really good at lectures, but will make you feel guilty if you don't read. He really tries to get you to see different perspectives and questions why you do or like the things you do. He makes you work for your grade. Going to his office hours is a must. He does not seem like a professor, but more of a mentor and a friend.
Although this professor requires a lot of reading and discussion in the class, I actually liked it way more because the discussions that arises from the books we were reading are actually relevant to our world and our society and our lives. He was super helpful and understanding that we as students also have lives and life happens. Would recommend.
Professor Trevor was a great professor this semester. He was very open to answering my questions both after class and during his office hours on discord. At the beginning he can seem scary and intense, but more than anything, he wants you to try and to understand what you think. However, if you are looking for a class to coast in, this is not that.
I can understand why others complain: Trevor is a tough grader, the content is challenging, and you might not get the grade you want. But this is an honors class so what did you expect? Overall, I enjoyed class discussions, especially on Brave New World. Not to mention my IMPROVEMENT as a writer. Do the work and the rest will follow :)
Trevor is the coolest professor you will ever have. He only wants to be called by his first name, is funny, and is not super strict on staying in class, phone usage, or talking. He is a hard grader, but his personality really makes the class enjoyable. YOU MUST USE HIS OFFICE HOURS and listen to his feedback, but if you do that, you will get an A.
Trevor is friendly and approachable, and is eager to answer questions or share what is going on in his life. The majority of class is spent listening to him speak, either on outside reading or a random tangent, but the majority of grades are essays. He is a tough grader but if you take advantage of his office hours, the class is easily passable.
Trevor is an amazing professor. My biggest advice for future students is to talk to him, ask him questions, and go to office hours. My papers always did better when I went to office hours and asked him to give me some edits. He is extremely caring and loves to help his students. His class is difficult but it is only because he wants you to succeed.
Trevor lectures quite a bit in class, he runs his classes more like a meeting. He is very good at giving back feedback on all assignments and does a very good job at explaining what he expects on assignments. He grades hard but if you talk to him during office hours before submissions of essays he will go through your entire essay.
Highly recommended. An extremely knowledgeable and well-versed professor. He is a hard grader, but this class greatly improves writing skills and is very helpful for other classes. Attending office hours is key to success. He is readily available and provides great feedback for any assignment brought to him.
Trevor is a really neat person and a good professor. His class isn't terribly easy by any stretch, but if you put in the work, show up for office hours and make sure you understand the assignments, you will do fine. Take notes in class bc he doesn't repeat himself often. He cares a lot about students and wants you to succeed.
I loved having him and chose to be in his class again this semester. He definitely makes you work for your grade and is a very harsh grader, but he will work with you. GO TO OFFICE HOURS! He is so helpful and will steer you in the correct direction.
I understand why professor Duston is not everyone's favorite guy. However, I ended up looking forward to his class every Wednesday and Friday. He is a very hard grader and will make you work for an A, but it's so rewarding. His office hours saved my grades and his classes were enjoyable.
Do not be afraid to take this course. It was a difficult class, but you are given all the resources you need to succeed. If you apply yourself, you will make an A. Trevor graded very reasonably in my opinion, the things I missed, he gave great feedback so I would not miss it again. Look at his resources and take in the feedback and you will do fine
Trevor liked to talk about his personal life to use as examples, but got sidetracked very often, so it was hard to stay engaged. He is a tough grader but wouldn't provide feedback unless you went to him and asked him in person, specifically. Also, the assignments were found in multiple places, and had different instructions, so it was confusing.
Trevor's class involves a lot of reading and essay writing, and grades are pretty strict, but taking this course was definitely worth the experience. Trevor makes class very personable and advantageous by challenging students and lecturing valuable lessons. Make sure to go to office hours for feedback and additional help because they are essential!
Trevor is an amazing professor who genuinely cares about his students. He not only helped me with assignments but also helped me get through a tough situation last fall. He also gives good feedback that has helped me a lot in other courses.
It may sound dramatic but this professor made me feel like I was in a learning environment comparable to an Ivy League school. Before this class, I completed all required English courses and felt that I was fully confident in my writing skills and felt that I had no room for improvement. Trevor definitely humbled me through detailed feedback.
Trevor is one of the best teachers at GCU. I transferred at semester because GCU felt like HS, but Trevor was the one person who made it feel like actual college. He genuinely cares about his students and if you work hard, you will succeed. The effort is worth it because it teaches you how to write & you will use it in other classes.
Trevor is a genuinely sweet and caring guy. All of the courses he teaches involve many essays and outside reading, but he provides a lot of time both in class and in his office hours to review topics and papers. He makes a true effort to get to know his students, and if you can laugh at yourself, he'll laugh lovingly right with you (and at you)!
Trevor honestly intimidated me at first because he is incredibly intelligent and a bit of a tough grader. However, as I got to know him, I figured out that he really just wants us to succeed, which is why he is tough in grading us. The class was honestly pretty easy in my opinion but if you need help go to his office hours and he will help you.
While he constantly claims to care about student's success, he does not give the attention or feedback to remotely help students succeed. He is extremely condescending, making students feel inadequate and like it is impossible to live up to his standards. When he does grade, he does not provide adequate feedback. Do not take any course with Trevor.
Professor Duston's class was always dreaded by a lot of people in the class. It was extremely lecture heavy about very confusing things and he was not always the most clear. There were a handful of essays that he graded harshly. He also expects you to read a ton. He isn't that much of a caring professor either and will make you feel uncomfortable.
There's a good amount of reading books and writing papers in this class, but Trevor is a great professor. He's funny and he knows how to engage the class. I would recommend taking his class!
He is a great teacher and can be funny at times but there is a lot of reading, lectures, and papers involved. He grades pretty harshly, as well. It's not like he's out to get you, he genuinely cares about your education and wants you to grow.
Professor Duston was a difficult professor. While I would consider myself a good writer, he would make critiques and insults about my writing that were a little uncalled for. He would constantly talk about how without his writing technique we will fail, but I have not used his writing style since leaving his class, and I have gotten plenty of A's.
He's very lecture heavy and sometimes I have no idea how what he's saying actually pertains to the assignment. He's very strict about grading said you wont get a good grade unless you go to office hours. overall crap professor confusing and unnecessarily stressful for a 100 level class. other ppl have same class said it is a breeze. not w/ trevor!
Super solid professor. Yes he is a tough grader, but he wants to make sure you grow, and you do. He doesn't do the same old boring lectures but involves lots of class discussions and external videos.
Trevor is someone I strongly urge against taking as a professor. His entire class is focused on 4 major projects, and all of them he grades extremely harshly. On the big paper, I got the lowest grade on a paper in my entire college career, and he didn't even provide feedback on the paper itself, I had to go to office hours to learn what I did wrong
I think he is a cool, funny professor but his grading is very rigorous. I feel like the material we covered was so irrelevant to anything that it was just very boring to go to class.
This is my 2nd time having Trevor as a professor. He does have a very unique grading style but I would not say he grades hard. Most instructions are clear and if they aren't, go to office hours, he is beyond helpful and readily available. Trevor is very sarcastic and makes a lot of jokes. There are only 4 assignments and lots of redundant reading.
When you ask him a question he gives an answer that leaves more confusion than clarity, and that when he lets you finish the question. Tough grader, not helpful feedback at all. You will write more papers in his class than in any English class.
The class is as difficult as you make it. I've taken two of Trevor's classes and he makes himself available for any and all matters, which is really helpful with bigger projects. He listens to you and helps you but also strives to push you. 10/10 would recommend.
Trevor is a good guy, he is very interesting and has a cool life story. However, for someone who has a hard time remaining attentive for 90 minutes straight, this course was difficult. There wasn't one class without a full lecture. He often goes off on tangents (which are sometimes interesting), but often hard to follow.
Overall, he was ok but the lectures always went off-topic so paying attention was hard. Regarding papers, the feedback wasn't helpful and when you asked, all his answers were riddles. In my opinion, I don't think you need to take time out of your day especially when you have work and school the whole day, to go to office hours that aren't helpful.
He is great teacher, very smart, knowledgable but not the teacher for everyone. I am a very hands on visual learner and he did not cater to that. But I was able to get by. He says at the beginning that the assignments won't make sense until after and he meant it. Nothing made sense until after I completed the assignments. But I Definitely recommend
Trevor's class is extremely difficult and he is a very tough grader. He is an interesting professor and the lectures are usually pretty good. I wouldn't take him unless you have a specific love for literature because if you don't care enough about the material the class is just an annoyance.
Trevor was a nice enough guy and I do think he cares about his students. I didn't think his grading was particularly tough, but the paper prompts were sometimes confusing and hard to come up with ideas for. He often gets off topic during lectures which makes it hard to follow, but as long as you did the readings it wasn't necessary to understand.
This class in particular involved a lot of reading from various assigned books with socratic discussions and there were many projects. He tended to talk quite a lot and would sometimes stray off topic. Grading is solely based off of how well you defended your argument. The class workload was a little heavy, but the information was fairly basic.
Trevor is an amazing professor. He is knowledgable about almost everything, which is amazing, but it can be intimidating. I highly recommend him as your professor because he grades directly from the rubric, which some may see as harsh, but it is super fair. He genuinely cares about his students and I wish I could take another class by him again.
I dropped because I got sick of writing so many papers. This professor is very informal and I thought he was funny, but I know some felt insulted by him. You can get an A in this class if you take notes on his interpretations of the readings and use those in your essays. I didn't think he was a tough grader, but I know others who disagree with me.
Weird but likable guy. Loves to hear himself talk. Projects tend to be extremely open-ended but as long as you follow his rubric/guidelines and go to class you will be fine. Totally inaccessible if you try to go to office hours, I sat there for over an hour with another student waiting and never got a chance to talk to him.
He acts like his content should blow our minds, but in reality, none of his assignments make sense and he is lazily vague. He says he does this on purpose so there are no repeats, but recently he had to step out of class because he was very frustrated that no one did the assignment correctly. Also is rude if you approach him with questions.
I had him for UNV109 and Hum201, and he taught both classes the same way, he sometimes left me more confused than I was after I went and talked to him. Most of the time, his instructions often felt inconsistent with his grading, but he accepts re drafted work at the end of semesters for credit back if you miss points.
Whenever I entered Trevor's class, I felt like I was being told that I was stupid over and over again. He knows a lot about a lot of things, but he speaks as if we should already know this. We almost never did anything productive in class, and most of the books we read were pretty pointless.
Honestly, I want my money back for taking this class. All you do is watch Youtube videos, or discuss readings that have nothing to do with the final assignments in each topic. He gives vague feedback and deviates from the rubrics. His classes tend to run long, and the majority of his classes are pointless. Just don't take Trevor if you can help it.
This professor was very uncaring and acted like he did not want to be there. I did well in the class, but that was only because of participation. The papers were difficult and graded harshly.
He's a really nice guy. Definitely can be tough and it is important to do to do the readings and keep up with your work but he really wants the best for his students. He will be tough on you but he wants to give you the skills for upcoming years.
Prof. Duston is knowledgeable and tries to get the class involved in discussion to make it less boring. However, assignment directions are unclear and often there were two different templates for the same assignment. If you get a bad grade on something, go to office hours and show you put effort into making changes to get back most of the points.
This class just seemed like an extension of university success. I didn't learn anything and the Professor was frustrating. The reading he gave us was pointless and the projects were often confusing due to the fact that the grading criteria were often listed wrong, or were constantly changing. He honestly just liked to hear himself talk in class.
Trevor really cares about his students. He does love to talk so be prepared for rabbit trails in class. If you are worried about your grade just do the work and you'll be good. He is clear about expectations and as he will say just follow the rubric. Going to office hours is super helpful. He has high expectations but will help you meet them.
He loves hearing himself talk and consistently goes over the class time. His lectures were confusing. He brags about the fact that he has never given anyone 100% on a paper no matter how good it was. He makes odd remarks about what the girls in his class wear, once stating, "You girls know what you're doing by wearing those leggings." Ew.
The class' workload is light and the concepts are easy to understand. We don't have exams but instead essays or projects. As long as you follow the rubric, do the discussion questions and two replies, and read the readings every now and then, you'll do fine. Trevor likes to talk (the two hours) and he takes attendance for participation points.
Trevor's self-centered teaching style and lack of student focus were incredibly frustrating. His obsession with self-image overshadowed actual learning. Absolutely would not take him again. The class was a waste of time and $, and he made it even more unbearable. Tons of work. Harsh grader and long assignments, but work and you'll get an A
Although I enjoyed being in his class, the other reviews on Trevor are justified. He talks a lot and goes off-topic often but, I learned a lot in his class. He comes off as being someone on a high horse but is personable if you make the effort to understand him. He gives great feedback on papers during his office hours and my writing has improved.
I have mixed feelings about this class. It's true that Trevor goes on a lot of rabbit trails, but I really didn't mind that. Mostly, I found it interesting. However, a lot of the class material has absolutely nothing to do with the assignments, making class really tedious after a while. Still, Trevor cares about his students & wants us to succeed.
He's okay I guess. Trevor does go on rabbit holes and interjects a lot. He loves to talk. Almost to a fault. But I can tell that he's trying to help you understand material - it's just frustrating. He never finishes early. No exams but lots of papers/group projects. Class discussions are irrelevant to assignments, so class feels like a drag.
Trevor is a strange guy, he is like no other professor. He thinks very differently and will grade based on his ways and personal opinion. His instructions are very unclear and he will often change the assignment description directly in class. Participating in class discussions matter!
This professor was very lecture-heavy and relied heavily on office hours. His lectures were often confusing, disorganized, and did not pertain to our assignments. His actual assignments were difficult to comprehend and had many odd facets. You will be graded badly if your opinions do not align with his. Overall, he did not explain his assignments.
This class can range from watching anime, to reading 100 page articles, to looking at very odd images and "discussing" them in class. The projects were difficult from a science major perspective and had 3 different rubrics that had different expectations. The one good thing is he will not call on you. Look interested and you will get by.
Trevor is .. interesting. He grades based on whether you agree with his beliefs. His lectures tended to be irrelevant and almost uncomfortable. He's a big fan of anime, and LOVES to talk about himself/his childhood. Office hours hurt my grade instead of helping, as I applied his corrections and then received points off for those exact changes.
While I was a little skeptical about him at first, I actually grew to love him and his class! He's very funny and there is never a dull moment in his class! He's very committed to his students and always looks for ways to be helpful! I found the class easy and entertaining and would highly recommend him!
I genuinely loved this class. The point of it was to replace UNV-103 and to learn to have a better appreciation for a wide variety of things. Unfortunately, many people did not understand this. Trevor helped me tremendously. I was taking five other classes on top of this. It should not be difficult to get an A if you're actually applying yourself!
Dr. Duston is a good professor who is knowledgeable on a lot of subjects, at times though he can get lost down rabbit holes for 10+ minutes. Easy grader if you do it well he will give you 100%.
Although Trevor is at times, unconventional he cares deeply about the success of his students. Despite being a tough grader, he clarifies his expectations and provides numerous resources to help the class. Do not be afraid to talk to him or ask him questions. If you pay attention and attend class you won't have any issues.
I was very excited when I heard I was taking this course however I can say I don't think I learned a single thing about humanities. the class talked about anime and random things that I didn't find helpful to the course. when asked how this could be applied to our majors he never fully answered the question. if you can pick someone else.
Trevor is an interesting guy. He loves to talk about himself and will shame you if you do not agree with his opinions. His outlines and guidelines for projects are extremely confusing and asking him will only make it worse. The course itself was uninteresting and I can say I did not learn from it. Avoid this professor and class.
At times, it was hard to see the point of this class, and Trevor made that kind of hard by going down rabbit trails during most classes. He also is one of the tougher graders for this course, but if you learn from your mistakes in the first paper and attend class, it is relatively easy to get a good grade if you want it!
Trevor is very knowledgable about many areas, but can be a tough grader. He often relates concepts to "geeky" things like anime and other sorts of things, which is fine if you know what he is talking about. Interesting class, but the point of it is not always clear. The class requires deep thinking, but can be interesting at times.
Trevor goes by Trevor. He likes to talk- A LOT. ]He has strong opinions and many unique interests. He is an interesting guy but a hard grader and the whole point of the class is constantly confusing. So some of the tough things about the class aren't really because of Trevor, but because of the class itself.
Trevor was amazing professor who had some great insights on many of the topics we discussed throughout the class. We did not have many assignments, but the one's we did have included great learning experiences in the humanities, relating to technology. He knows exactly what he is talking about with all his lectures, unlike other professors at GCU.
This class is only 3 BIG assignments + DQs. Attendance is mandatory because he gives highly specific instructions on how to complete 3 main assignments to end class. Frustrating lectures. Says he wants feedback but then crushes everyones' suggestions. Seems like he doesn't like gcu, doesn't like our generation, doesn't like anything.
Dr. Duston is a good professor, but the class could be very difficult. There were 4 assignments worth around 260 points, so there isn't a lot of room for error. He is a caring professor and is willing to let you resubmit assignments, but he comes off as very pretentious. He's a brilliant man, but he tends to ramble about random subjects in class.
The class is composed of DQs and three major projects: two papers and one group project. He had patronizing retorts to kids who asked questions, but he was an easy grader. So if you don't get easily annoyed by people with self-superiority you might enjoy this class. However, I always left the class feeling angry.
Trevor's class has its quirks, but if you engage with the unconventional approach, it can be rewarding. The workload is manageable, and resources like unstuck AI can complement the lectures. Just stay focused, participate, and you'll likely earn a solid grade.
If your degree or interests don't really line up with the class, then it's boring. Great professor and tries his best to make class fun. Kind of weird but means well. Grades stuff really leniently.
