He is a very nice teacher~it's worth to take this course! You can ask any questions any time~ He is patient to answer your question~If you work hard~ you can get a good mark~Believe me !
He's absolutely fantastic. He has a good sense of humour and an obvious love for the stuff he's teaching. Work hard and ask questions and you'll do really well. I had Math 243 and 222 with him and he was great for both classes. Highly recommended!
He was a really good prof but needs to gain some confidence. His notes are fantastic. He really wants his students to do well, which means the material is dumbed down sometimes and he doesn't always go deep into the math behind concepts. He confuses himself sometimes so it's a really good idea to pay close attention when he writes out proofs.
Easy class and great prof. Loved his humor but he really needs to be more confident when teaching because it left me doubting his lectures correctness. He's the nicest guy and really helpful to go see if you missed a class but just needs more experience. His exams were straightforward and he's an easy marker. All in all, I recommend him.
He was very helpful whenever you had to miss a class and very personable. He is fairly new to teaching, but I think once he gains confidence, he will be amazing. He genuinely cares about his students and wants them to do well.
I am not very strong in math and was worried when I had to take a math class. However, being in Trevor's class I was ale to learn a lot and feel confident in my learning and succeeding. Trevor is easy to approach and is very helpful in explaining problems! Awesome teacher for math 160!
I hate math but he made it bearable. Super nice guy. I am not sure how the faulty will let this fly but the averages for his tests were very high.
What a great instructor! Tests and assignments were fair, and he provided plenty of reasonable opportunities to visit him for extra help. His notes are very clear and he posts everything online. I would recommend taking this course with Trevor; very easy GPA booster!
Trevor is pretty hard-working
He was a very good prof. If you are good at math this class will be a breeze. If not it may get a little bit confusing. If you are not good at math GO TO EVERY CLASS. Otherwise it's not mandatory - he posts the lectures online. Homework was fairly easy. Exams were VERY easy. All in all this was a great class.
he is pretty hilarious! u'll like him XD
He's so amazing, when I heard my friend was taking the same class as I had, I tagged along with him to the lectures because TREVOR. Trevor makes the world go around, I swear.
What you don't understand is that Trevor is an absolute Hero... I would change my career path to be in his class. The longest ovation ever witnessed at the end of the term. He will help you see another side of you that you didn't know you had. Pasanen changed my life.
He's a very good prof, you will never regret to take his class.
Trevor is awesome. Do not take Math 160 unless it is with him. I never thought that math could be so fun. He is always there for extra help, and it is more than possible to get an A. Best prof I have ever had.
nice instructor
Excellent professor and definitely one of my favorites. He is extremely helpful. Assignments were tricky but pretty rewarding once you got them. Always offers extra credit if you didn't get full marks and definitely dedicated to making sure you understand the concepts. He is an educator for sure.
Best Prof Ever!!!!!!!!
Best Prof I had in my first year. Midterm is really easy, he has 2 practice midterms that are almost exactly the same as the actual midterm. Class was boring but its mostly due to the course. You won't regret taking this class!
GREAT PROF! Really cares about students and takes the time to make sure they understand the material. Exams are straight forward, and if you complete the practice tests and assignments you CAN'T do bad! Textbook was a waste of money for me since his notes were better. I recommend not buying the text, and buying myMATHlab separately!
Trevor is an excellent professor, his notes are very detailed and he genuinely cares for his students. He's a bit shy, and sometimes he has difficulties clarifying concepts, but he does his best considering the material is a bit dry. His two midterms are fair, and his final is slightly tougher, but reasonable.
-He gives notes online so you can pay attention instead of scribing everything on the board like most math classes -Feedback questions are an amazingly helpful concept -He cares far more about his students than any prof that I've seen. He's not the best lecturer, but he is easily the best overall professor that I've had at the uofa.
Great prof. Engages students, funny, and gives assignments back quick. Tests were almost exact same as practices and he marks extremely easy. His assignments are hard but they pretty much show you the worst case scenario you can get for a question so if you get that, you're good. Also went the extra mile to make time for students.
His midterms were ok but final was extremely hard. Too many concept questions. I never thought I wasnt good at math and he made me feel so stupid. Got 99 on high school math. 100 on both of the midterms. 80 on the sample final BEFORE I even began studying for the final. After 5days of intense studying, I got a 60 and walked out with a b+ LOL
His midterms were very easy and fair. However, his final was BRUTAL. I got 95 on both midterms and a 60 on the final and finished with a B+. That never happened to me in math. He is also very rude and condescending one to one in his office hours. I don't recommend this class, he has discouraged me from ever taking math again.
He was a pretty good prof. Tried to make the class fun. I have to admit, his class was quite boring though. He was quite monotone. Mid terms were relatively easy, but the final was really difficult.
He is very helpful and patient. He will give you very detailed process if you ask some question. The midterm is very easy and the final is a little hard. But all the exams are similar to the sample. If you do the sample and all the assignments, it is easy to get high score
Math 222 Although a clear teacher does make final much more difficult to bring down class marks. Gives sample exam questions to practice but may not help if trying to lower curve. My class had a midterm average of 92% and final average of 61%. Also had consistent body odour so do not sit near front if sensitive to that.
Used final to lower average of class. On midterm average was 92%. Final average was 61%. Sample finals much easier and not really related to final.
He is passionate about the course and the first few chapters are not too difficult. I found him awkward when I went for help. Midterm was identical to sample so I did amazing. Final not so much, the sample was more of a guide line. I went into final with an 85% bombed the final and left with an overall 70. I hear he is the best for 222
I really enjoyed his lectures because he went at a decent pace. He explained everything in detail and willingly answered questions. Exams are nearly identical to practice ones. Final is definitely harder than midterm. This class however was the one I studied for least in University and still got a A-
2 Midterms, 1 Final, and 5% bonus for online homework. Midterms were a breeze if you studied the sample finals and assignments. However BEWARE of the FINAL! I walked into it with an A-, and left with a B-. Basically failed the final...had 6 long answer questions (worth 10 each), and 40 marks in mc/t&f/fill in the blank! Nice prof though!
Great prof! Pretty new to teaching so he still needs to work out a few kinks, but otherwise fantastic. Finals are tough, but that's math for you. Great job of explaining and goes at a steady pace.
He lectures with an air of nervousness, and over complicates everything. However, the class was generally easy. I hate math and I got an A+ on the midterm. The final was out of nowhere hard though so don't underestimate him. Class was fun, and probably the easiest math class I've taken.
Good guy professor doesn't test us on the last assignment's material since we didn't get it back before final. It made studying for the final a lot easier since we didn't have as much material to review. You don't need to attend class cuz he posts all the notes online. I attended maybe 20% of the lectures and did quite well overall.
The final was not made to lower students' grades. If you do the review packages, and memorize the process of the questions then you should ace. I am not a math major/minor, I took this class as an option. Three steps to success: 1 go to class, 2. do the homework, and 3 do his study materials. Easy.
He is good in teaching and there is no doubt in that but he is rude and takes forever to email back. His midterm was fine but the final was brutal. Don't take his class if you are someone who would need help after class or would like to email him questions.
He is an excellent prof. He does very well at staying on track with the syllabus and he makes every thing really understandable. Practice midterms and finals were pretty similar to the real thing. Assignments and exams were easy once you go to class and pay attention. I would definitley recommend.
He had really good notes, and was overall pretty good at explaining everything; however, I found him to be very condescending when I went to him for help. He did want to make sure you got it, but he was rude about it. Exams were similar to practice exams, but different enough that it was hard to do well on them I found. Overall not bad.
Really good professor! Strongly recommended! He's notes were pretty clear. However his final is much harder than midterm since the midterm exam was pretty easy.
Super enthusiastic about what he is teaching, therefore makes his class so much fun. He can be a little awkward, but overall he wants you to do well in his class. Best prof ever. :) Take his class if you can.
Great prof. Passionate about the material and this helps the class to engage with the material. It's not rocket science. Typical math class it requires practice and knowledge of class examples that he covers in notes. Wants students to succeed and provides them with the necessary supports and materials to do so.
one of the BEST prof's for MATH 102. his notes are really really good, and he uploads the lectures online too with solutions, so you can even skip class if you want & just have a look at his notes once he uploads them. take him if you can. i was not enrolled in his class but went anyway
I took this class because Trevor was teaching it. The first half of the class was easy (the midterm was a joke), the second half was a bit more challenging (for me). However, Trevor is an excellent instructor and very patient. Use his office hours and/or ask questions after class as he is very helpful. I highly recommend taking any class with him.
This professor is one of the best professors I have ever met. This guy carries a lot of patience. YOU CAN ASK HIM A SAME QUESTION ten times and he will not say no. I' m quoting his words, "I like to teach students who are always willing to learn"; after asking a same question ten times.
Great pref and fun guy. The sample exams are really helpful
Great prof! Made calculus easy! If you have to take any math LOOK UP this guy first!!
He's one of the best math teacher I have had. Supper clear and will answer ANY question you have. His pace is perfect. If he is teaching the course you should have nothing to worry about.
He may be new to teaching, but damn he is talented in it. Sometimes it's hard to believe he is a professor and not a TA. I loved how he made notes for us so that we could spend more time in the class listening and less on writing. The concepts in this course is a bit hard to understand but he makes it all easy. Trust me, go to his class!!!
I thought I was going to fail when I saw the first assignment but he gives out hints about which theorems to use which is super helpful. His exams are really straightforward and if you know your stuff you should be fine!
This was a really laid back class with a great atmosphere. Trevor does a lot of magic tricks at the beginning of class and tried to make the math relevant and fun. (I called this class "math-magics") He teaches with a bit of nervousness and I felt that the material should have been practiced more, but it was easy stuff. Math Fair is the best part!
Very approachable, very knowledgeable and could answer any questions in class, he started the semester with magic tricks in the first 2 weeks, so that set a relaxed and inviting environment to the classroom. His assignments are tricky and you have to think outside of the box, but his "Math Parties" are really helpful & fun when working with people
This class was easy, however Trevor sometimes made the material more difficult than need be. He expected a greater basic knowledge of math out of the class than what was had in a group of elementary ed students. Would be surprisedspeak down to students with questions. Quite nervous while teaching.
He explains concepts well and has an obvious passion for mathematics and for student learning
Trevor was a really great prof and I would take another math class only if he is teaching it. There was a lot of homework but he is extremely patient and will always make himself available to help you if you're stuck so don't be shy! I am an average student at math and even I did well in his class.
Best math prof I've had so far, he was very clear in explaining everything and the tests and homework were easy.
Great professor and an all around nice guy. His main goal seems to be to get you good grades and make you enjoy the class. He is very good and patient at explaining some of the stranger concepts to those who can't grasp it. The only down side is that I wish it was more rigorous and intensive as I'm a bit of a keener.
Trevor is a good professor, a little awkward at times. The class was fairly basic, and you dont need a lot of knowledge in math to pass. Assignments are easy, half the time he walked us through how to do the questions, plus you can do them in groups. Mid-term was easy, and he let us bring in a sheet of notes. Math Fair was fun through!
An amazing teacher. Teaches it slow and clear. If you have to take MATH 160, take it from him.
He was kind of awkward sometimes but it was funny. He's super helpful and basically walks you through all the assignments. He also helps prepare you for exams and goes over lots of examples, plus you get to bring a sheet of notes into the exams. He's there to help students succeed. The textbooks are $30 total, and I didn't touch them at all.
Trevor started the semester off doing magic tricks, which instantly showed us that the class was more relaxing than most. He takes the time to go over examples in class and makes them relatable and fun. There was a fair amount of homework, which made you think outside the box, but were doable. 10/10 would take another math class with him!
Great Teacher! He cares and loves math! First Assignment was more difficult than the rest. Marks on; homework/feedback questions, math fair, midterm & final. He let your feedback questions replace your bad mark on assignments. So I got 100% on assignments. Math Fair was amazing! He has math parties to help you. Recommended!
TREVORRRRRRRR IS DE BEST
Dr Trevor Pasanen is an excellent professor. He is passionate for teaching and is skilled in Mathematics. Outside of class, he personally corrects errors in worksheets and helps students overcome mistakes. He spent an hour giving me feedback and helping with missed assignments. Do not be fooled by his humble demeanour, this man was sent from above.
Trevor is the best prof that you can take for Math 114. He is a very funny guy and respects each of his students. He even apologized for having a difficult midterm because the other profs deemed it ''not hard enough.'' He posts blank and completed notes and has online videos of himself teaching the class posted on eClass. He has my utmost respect!
Math222 is a generally easy course... or at least it was with Trevor! The pre-midterm material is pretty straightforward but the material after that gets a little more complicated. He gives you many opportunities to make up for lost marks on assignments and you're even able to to work with partners! He even lets you have a cheat sheet for exams!
Lectures are clear and easy to understand, attendance isn't mandatory but encouraged. Often took us through practice problems and helped with homework. His use of eclass is amazing; posts notes, screencasts, practice ,homework help. One of the best math profs I've ever had. Most grading was done by various TAs and all homework is submitted online.
He is extremely engaging and works to make sure everyone understands each concept. Sometimes felt like we were going very slow over problems but he made things very clear. It would be more difficult to do poorly in his class.
GET THIS PROFESSOR FOR MATH 114. He cares so much for his students, his exams are super fair, wants everyone to do well. not here to make students suffer. LITERALLY GAVE US SO MUCH HINTS FOR EVERY WORKSHEET, AND EVEN ON THE MIDTERM HE GAVE US HINTS AND ON THE FINAL TOO
Trevor is the best prof I have ever had. Incredibly smart and cares for his students. Accessible, helpful, and cares for his students. Take him if you have the chance.
Trevor was super nice and really cared about his students. The course itself was pretty tough, but Trevor is the best professor to have for this class. His exams were pretty tough, so be ready to think beyond the course material during the exam. The worksheets are ridiculous but he gives good hints (sometimes he pretty much does the question).
Trevor cares about his students, he created "math parties" in order to see students who required extra help. Although I found he got very nervous in front of the whole class and tended to go through examples while not fully explaining the steps. This is not an extremely hard course and he gives you a large number of opportunities to strive!
Professor Pasanen makes the course so much easier! He has easier exams compared to other profs (they made him make his harder LOL) and he truly cares about his students! Make sure to take math with him if u can!
Good lecturer that tries to help every student by going slowly and carefully. Really helpful with worksheet hints and has many means for you to ask for help from him. Just a really awesome professor!
Trevor knows his math, and knows how to teach. He was incredibly detailed and genuinely cared about his students passing. He was willing to break anything you asked him down until you understood. The midterm was the hardest test I've written due to time constraints, but his final was fair and doable. There was 2 assignments a week due which sucked.
Trev is one of my favourite profs. He cares so much about his students so he hosts a "math party" every week for people with questions. He is insanely brilliant with math and is a great teacher. There are two worksheets a week for this class which sucks but is manageable. I hate math but Trev definitely gave me the best possible experience in calc.
Not the most effective communicator. Teaches in a style that assumes you understand everything he says (ie doesnt elaborate on details). Textbook doesnt even cover certain topics taught in class;if you dont understand, you're out of luck. He replies to emails in one sentence with poor grammar and punctuation, repeating whats on notes. Not helpful
Kind of boring but only because genuinely cares about the success of his students and wants to take his lectures slowly to make sure everyone understands the concepts. Gave easy tests that were very straightforward
Trevor was a really great prof (kind of awkward though)! I took pre/post-calc classes along with this course since I was terrible at math, and it helped tremendously. Trevor sends out hints for every worksheet & even gave out hints right before exams. Would recommended if math is not your best subject! His tests are definitely fair as well.
Trevor is an amazing prof. He is really passionate about the material, and although somewhat shy, is engaging and makes sure that everyone understands the material. He gives lots of chances to boost your grade and get help and is overall just really helpful and considerate. If you are looking for a prof who cares about your learning, get Trevor.
Trevor is honestly the best math teacher I've ever had in my years of schooling. For someone who is not the best at math, his lectures are really easy to follow and he's really great at explaining problems. Really patient guy and is willing to sit with you until you understand. his notes are all online so if you miss class it is ok!
Trevor is pretty awesome sauce. He makes his lectures really fun and interesting and his goes into detail to make sure you understand all of the content. He gives lots of opportunities for extra credit, so failing is a near impossibility. He really values your success. And he's not terrible to look at.
Dr. Pasanen has a heart of gold. He cares about his students and helps them to succeed. His lectures were effective; I was always eager to come to his lectures. Errors are rare in his notes because he is highly skilled in mathematics. I always remember this man's graciousness; he is a gift from god.
Trevor is a very nice man, smart as well... unfortunately Trevor needs to improve in his ability to teach. I have nothing critical to say about him personally because he answers emails and is kind to his students, but if you have any struggles with math you may consider avoiding this prof... or seeking outside help with his class.
he screws you over on the final, he gives you an outline that he swears is like the final but the final is NOT like the outline. He loves his eng kids so he likes to put eng level questions in his classes that are for the sciences.
Despite it being Trevor's first time teaching a STATS151 class, I personally felt that he did an excellent job. His lecture notes for each lesson were very clear and provided useful examples. His notes and teaching prepared us well for the midterm and final. He is very kind and is always willing to help students clarify any explanations.
It was Trevor's first time teaching this course and he did an excellent job! He does a good job in going over material in a clear and slow manner, without being behind. He uses a lot of examples in his lectures and explains things very well. He is helpful in his emails.
Best math prof ever. Great at actually explaining the concepts, and has wonderful fill in the blank notes that can be printed and brought to class. He posts the notes filled in at the end of class and does everything he can to help you succeed.
explain everything very clearfully
he speaks in a monotonous voice, meaning it can pretty boring sometimes BUT if you just try to focus all the time, he gives a detailed lecture and also, very considerate with students. Really helps students to pass the course.
great , caring prof. His lecture can be boring, but if you pay attention to it, his lecture can be really clear, and helpful because he would always go through the hard assignments.
Trevor is really nice and patient. His class is interesting and not hard to learn. Although the homework is a little bit easy, if you finish them all by yourself you surely will get good grade on your exam. Trevor prof. will answer students' question through email and you will get detailed advice and feedback from him. He is really good.
I went to almost every class and did the assignments and the material was a little confusing at times but he is pretty straightforward in his lectures. Math fair was so fun and he is very smart and willing to help!
Great prof!
Trevor is an alright teacher, but he only seems to have one way to explain topics. If you can teach yourself from notes, you can do really well in this class.
Trevor does a fine job teaching the material in Math 125. His Crowdmark questions really make you think outside the box, you need to 100% understand the material if you want a solid foundation. Trevor is very fair in his marking if you pay attention in class and ask questions you should be fine.
Great guy, super nice. Class was super boring and really soft spoken. Made class kind of confusing at times, and kind of screwed the class over for the final exam, but the inclass assignments and the midterm were easy and a really good grade booster going in to your final exam. Math fair was a fun time though!
Trevor is amazing! He is a really interesting lecturer and make sure all concepts are well understood before moving on, he makes sure the homework is graded and considered how everyone is doing before moving on to the next lecture.
Professor Pasanen offers a challenging class but makes sure that his students succeed. I went to his office a couple of times (especially after the midterm) and he was always ready and willing to help explain the material. He really cared if his students understood the material.
Trevor cares for his students and his tests are easy, but that's about all the positive things I can say. He covered useless abstract problems in lectures that we never did anything with, and I found myself learning more from the textbook the whole semester. Also, his office hours were 10-10:10 MWF. It's almost better having no office hours at all.
He tries to be funny which makes the class interesting. Gives students lots of opportunities to do well and boost marks. The content wasn't overly hard, and the math fair project was a lot of fun. Easily accessible and willing to help. He posts slides online, however, it's easier to see what he does, in class as he doesn't show all his work/steps.
A very caring and kind professor. He incorporates magic tricks in his lectures, which is a cool way to teach concepts. The course provides a lot of opportunities to make up marks, so if you do the homework, you should do well. For the most part, the midterms are almost exactly like the practice questions he gives, and the math fair was super fun.
He is really really nice and always ready to help! His explanation is clear enough.
By no means an easy class but he provided clear explanations and was always super quick to answer any question on the eclass forum. Exams were very fair and similar to practice exams.
He explains well and uses interesting minigames to explain some concepts. He also replies to questions and quickly. Great notes, Midterm and Final questions are similar to the homework. He tries his best to make a math class fun, intriguing and as easy as possible, as such I will forever be a devote and loyal follower of the Pasanen church :)
I only took this class out of interest and it turns out linear algebra is not for me. I still like Dr. Pasanen. He works hard, the tests are fair, and he explains things well. Linear algebra could be a complete mess, but he does a good job of getting you through it.
The projects Trevor gives are always super fun and the assignments given are exactly what we talk about in class. Overall, the class was easy, until the final. He did not prepare our class for what he was going to give us, so make sure you have an understanding of EVERYTHING, even if you only went over it once in class. This could save you.
He teaches the concepts well and helps students with questions. Lecture notes are made for educational purposes with a hint of fun in it. It's never truly boring in his class. Tests are not always the easiest though as this course in general is pretty hard.
Not much about this class I can say was very useful. Lectures were slow and boring, people fighting over what color of card to flip (for real). I left more confused than when I came in. If it weren't for the assignments you would be screwed because the final was SO SO much harder than it needed to be. Even if you study you won't do very well guys.
Best professor I've ever had. Very good at explaining concepts, goes well out of his way to thoroughly explain any questions that are asked and puts effort into making the lectures engaging. The week before the exam a student posted on our class forum "I pray that you replace any basis questions with something else" and sure enough he did.
he's a good professor, his lectures are very clear, easy to understand. There will be a tough problem in homework, but others are quite basic. As long as you study, you'll get good mark.
He got caught in traffic today and literally LEFT HIS CAR AND RAN 2 MILES TO THE UNIVERSITY. This guy is passionate about what he does. He posts slides and videos so you can teach yourself at home if you dont understand. There was a lot of extra work and projects outside of the course but they prepare you for exams. I am bad at math but did okay.
Trevor was knowledgeable about what he was teaching. Lots of assignments. Three group projects that require lots of work. Lectures were helpful to understand the material.
Trevor was a good professor he obviously knows what he's teaching BUT he's not the best at answering questions you may have and kind of expects you to know everything immediately. The course is super rushed and I also feel like I have not learned much to help me in the future as a teacher. Content is pretty irrelevant to elementary level math.
Trevor is a funny dude. He's very organized and you know exactly what youre expected to learn. The entire term is on eclass which is excellent. Advice: Do all your homework assignments... or atleast your 80 marks. You'll be happy you did them when you bomb your final. The easy group projects are a great mark booster, hes helpful!
Its easy to get a good mark in the class part of the course but the tests are hard and final is worth 45%. He expects you to know everything and is bad at explaining it. Even when students as questions he acts like youre stupid and should I already know it, kind of frusturating. Course work would be easy if he was a better teacher.
Professor pasanen is an incredible prof. I found that him and his notes did an amazing job at explaining concepts. Midterm was incredibly easy, assignments offer some challenging problems. Final was good in that some questions made you think. Hes also super chill with the final, gave everyone hints mid exam and let people right over time
always very open to suggestions when it came to coming up with out group projects and presentations. if you struggle with math, it may be confusing cuz he skips steps occasionally so if a step isn't clear it'll make NO sense. But if maths Is your strength , you'll be just fine. Midterm+Class easy, Final Exam is hard, but class is somewhat scaled.
Interesting lectures and not a math-heavy course, would recommend as a science elective. The midterm questions are all from examples in class or past sample exams. The final is harder and requires more thinking, but he gives out hints along the way. Ace the midterm, get the bonus marks from assignments and don't stress too much on the final.
Loved this class. There's weekly homework assignments and you aren't required to do all of them but I would strongly recommend doing so, when it comes to the midterm and final it'll be a lot easier because you've done everything at least once. Math fair was fun, midterm easy, final was hard (but don't worry about it). funny guy and interesting prof
Great prof. Math 222 has the potential to be extremely hard, but Trevor made it super easy. The "textbook" was just the course notes that we had to work through over the term, which made it very organized. He actually makes class fun, and there are so many opportunities to do well (bonus marks, a bunch of practice exams, etc).Just show up to class!
I found this class > difficult than 2nd year calculus & linear alg. The textbook not useful. It was difficult to extrapolate specific techniques he used a question to others of that type. He instructs procedurally, and doesn't discuss big picture strategy of problem analysis enough ie./ decoding problem x into y type which requires z technique.
In my opinion, I couldn't understand his notes and couldn't apply the concepts he used in class to the assignments. On the first few solution sheets for the assignments, the answer was shown, but the work to get the answer wasn't shown, so most of the time I was confused. I did find this class a bit difficult and needed to go to the tutor in cab.
Trevor is so adorable! He teaches fast, and he set aside a week at the end of the semester for review and problem-solving. He is an amazing prof, and I'd love to take his other courses.
Trevor is a gem of a Prof. He is super kind and always ready to help you. He made Stats 151 one of the easiest courses for me. Would definitely take him again if provided the chance.
Never opened the textbook once, and skipped a couple classes but still finished with an A. Trev explained concepts well enough and put all his note online. Would recommend him for Stat 151
I am part of the elementary education program... in my opinion, I am not sure why they make us take this class.... super useless unless you are going to be a math teacher. The class itself was okay, Trevor is a fair marker, but his lectures are not an accurate representation of what you will be tested on. The tests are much harder.....
Trevor was very organized. His notes and eclass page are very easy to follow. Lectures are not mandatory as he posts the completed notes but you should go as he gives out hints/bonus marks for exams. Posts lots of practice as well. Our midterm (25%) was easy with a 88% class average, but final (50%) was incredibly hard. Lets you bring cheat sheet.
Trevor is great with giving a lot of examples in class and making time for a great deal of practice within his lectures. I often found his lectures to be quite dry/boring but they stuck in my memory well for the most part. He tries to make his lectures fun and the effort is appreciated, but they can be quite monotonous.
He is good at explaining *what he is doing, but not good at explaining *why he does things. This is good for some learning styles and bad for others. For step-by-step rote learners you can happily follow along, but he's weak at top-to-bottom explanations of why what you're doing works. The textbooks are useless, use the note package and that's it.
Trevor is a pretty cool dude. His lectures get tiring, but that comes with the territory.
He gave the hardest tests, whatever he gave us to study was no where close to the questions he gave us in our exams. Besides that he's a very monotoned prof and he doesn't explain very well he explains what he does but not why.
online(easy) and written(decently hard) assignments every week. Monotone, slow talker. If you took pre calculus you will do fine in his class. Must CLEARLY UNDERSTAND his material and practice problems to do well on his midterms. He gives hints on where to start written responses, similar practice questions to his exams. Decently easygoing prof
He knows his stuff and is pretty good at explaining concepts if you ask him. But his tests were completely wack, especially the final and as a result of his tests the class average was very low all semester, lower than the other Math 154 classes. Said you don't need to know formulas for the final but had a question that you couldn't do without one.
Explained concepts decently, but exams were ridiculous. You can tell he knows a lot about math, but it doesn't seem like he can relate well to what students may/may not understand
Decent guy but his exams were wack. He gave us an "unfinal" exam that made me feel pretty confident but the actual final was just barely like it, in fact it was harder than both midterms combined. All that's left of me are tears.
Overall, he is a good professor. He is accessible out of class and it feels like he genuinely wants people to pass. The written homework is frequent, and challenging. Lectures are well structured and he provides thorough notes on the eclass. For exams, the midterms were tough, but fair. The final was much harder. In general, This is a doable course
This mans is an okay prof. He answers any questions you have. HOWEVER he hella misleading when it comes to the final. He gave us a practice final and told us that it would be similar to the final. It was nothing like it. Also said final would be easier than the midterms. WAS NOT. Very disappointed
Hard but fair tests. The average of his class was way lower than the other classes but he is really generous when marking exams and gives hints about what type of questions to expect. Really cares about students passing and it is up to help. If u done pre-calc you will be fine. He has a calm and slow voice I found harder to focus.
Midterm average was around a 50%, final was pretty fair. Honestly not as bad everyone says as long as you understand the basic practice questions in depth. Soft spoken lecturesm although he doesn't really explain what he's doing which makes it hard to follow along and understand.
He doesn't explain where he got things from he just writes them down and expects to understand how he got them. Maybe it's just because it's online but this is one of the hardest classes I've ever taken. He doesn't teach you how to apply work from the samples he does to other questions, just specific to the example. SO FRUSTRATING.
Professor Pasanen is a good professor who explains concepts really well in class and did lots of practice problems with us. He replies fairly quickly in the discussion forums and his responses are quite helpful. Math 134 was scheduled a little weird considering we had 1 class per week but Pasanen tried to make the most of it.
Math 134 was delivered so poorly this semester but that is definitely not Pasanen's fault. The once a week workshops were spent going over examples for the week's topics. Pasanen was always helpful and responded to emails quickly. I took Math 31 when everything went online but still struggled in this class because of how it was organized online.
I like the way Prof. Pasanen delivers his material. You can tell he's genuinely passionate with his class and wants his students to do well. I'm not someone that good at math, I just took this class for my math requirement but I would honestly recommend it to anyone. It's fun and interesting but I wouldn't take it for an easy pass. Good luck y'all!
Homework very useful for tests. Helpful if you ask and fair. Provided a pre-calc course for free for review (uni charges for a similar course over $100). Before exams, went over the questions and format for the answers so students can use all of the limited time given per test (20 minutes and mandated by department I believe).
Okay prof, tough course. Not the best but better than others in the department. Would go over examples in class but wouldn't explain the steps done. Felt underprepared for the quizzes. Was helpful tho & answered all q's in class & outside of class. Final was much easier than the quizzes and boosted my mark up by a lot. Doable course if u work hard
Took the class cause it's the only math class that was available for the prereq. of math 30-2. The course on Eclass is organized and strait-forward the material however is nonsense half the time . He doesn't explain how he got the information leading up to the answer and leaves you questioning his work like how did you come to this number.
This class is challenging. You must be strong with proofs and problem solving. Material was delivered through learning activities on eClass so, it is hard to judge Trevor as a professor since he did not really teach. He genuinely cares about his students. He had a forum for fast answers to questions and he made the midterm open book & 18 hours.
Great prof, super nice. Makes an effort to make sure everyone understands. Love the prof, hate the subject. Would definitely recommend Trevor.
I had Math 160 online this summer and I was fairly worried. I have never done well in math. Not only did I get an A+ in the class but I also genuinely grew an appreciation for math. I honestly enjoyed learning the new material each week. There were lots of opportunities for extra credit (posting good content on the forum and doing practice tests).
This prof is acc the best. Idk why his reviews aren't too great but i suck at math and got such a good mark. He had lots of online practise quizzes and theres so many opportunities to get bonus marks and 100% as there are multiple attempts. He's so knowledgeable.
Trevor Pasanen developed a wonderful online experience, with many well supported resources and opportunities for student interaction via the piazza platform.
The lecture notes were hard to follow when reviewing for tests. The examples we went over in class were simple compared to the ones on the test. Would not recommend unless you really need the course.
He goes through problems during lectures (once per week) but skips steps and doesn't explain clearly. He sticks around after lectures to answer any questions, but his explanations are mediocre at best. Overreliance on piazza with a lot of unhelpful answers by gunners. After all, are there any better choices in the math dept....?
Participation in the online forum Piazza takes up around 5% of total grade. Many students willing to help each other on Piazza, no matter how simple or complex the questions is. Workload: weekly homework (online + written), quiz every 3-4 weeks, and lectures. Exams practice questions are tough and reflect the difficulty in midterms and finals.
Three short tests and the final make up the majority of your grade, each test question panned out to be at least an entire percent of your overall grade. There were so many weird administrative things in this class especially with grading, and questions about grading werent really answered. Probably more the departments fault than the profs.
I wouldn't say it was terrible, but it also was not my favourite experience. I enjoyed the choice between attending class or watching online videos; however the class videos did not offer anything different from in person classes. That being said, the average of my final was a 50 which I wasn't expecting. First part was easy but the 2nd was harder
Took this course in my 3rd year cause I'd missed it first year, but it was a piece of cake. A third your marks come from "learning activities" which give you unlimited tries and tell you if you're right, and participation on Piazza, which is totally free. He's outside class every day answering questions, and encourages lots of class discussion.
The course in itself is a challenge alone, however Trevor makes it harder in every possible scenario. The online lectures weren't informative at all and his response to genuine technology issues was "figure it out or its a zero". Nonetheless if you need to take this course, I highly recommend the pre-calc classes with Margie Ray.
Took Math 111 and 241 with him. He is very organized. The lectures were recorded which made pacing easy but they sometimes miss vital information needed to understand the content. He is active and ready to help on Piazza which is really great. His Math 111 content and tests are good but 241 can feel overwhelming sometimes.
Absolutely confusing course. Would never take this prof again, really don't understand his way of explaining things.
Maybe not the best teaching style for a more logic based class (as in, intuition is required but not was practiced enough), but is not a bad prof
Wonderful Prof and nice person. He explains everything step by step to ensure you are never confused. He was very organized and all of his notes were well done. Tests were very fair. I took this class with a different prof and failed and with Trevor I got a 90% with minimal effort.
Awful experience in MATH 111. Pasanen does not explain topics in any comprehensible way. Math is normally my strong suit but this course was extremely difficult, thought it likely would have been fine with a different prof. Videos skip steps and do not explain the material. The final had an average of 50 and was worth half of our grade.
Egotistical, he would lower your grade if you ever ask him questions, just choose another prof
I took this class last semester and had to retake it. This prof was much better than the one I had took last semester. I also took a pre calc class with Margie which helped a lot! Final was weighed a lot but it was fair enough with the way it was structured.
Seriously an amazing prof and an amazing guy overall. Always took the time to help students. He's also hilarious at times. No textbook was required and the piazza platform was a great tool IMO. Lectures were pretty straightforward and mimic the practice questions done on eclass and inclass. Would highly recommend this prof for math!
Taken Winter 2022 - Assignments: 5/10 - Pretty chill assignments but take a good amount of time to complete. Midterm: 6/10 - Pretty chill midterm. Final: 8/10 - Honestly a bit challenging. Got 85%. Pasanen is a great person and lecturer! Study hard and you will be rewarded with a good grade!
Honestly not too sure why is rating is so high, I took his course and was confused from day one. He does not explain how he got any of his answers and just confuses you. I swear he was just pulling numbers out of nowhere, all the other classmates I had met were confused too, reassuring me that I wasn't just going crazy.
He is a nice person overall but I find that his notes aren't very in depth and rarely explains his steps. He is definitely someone who just solves problems without explaining where he got his numbers. His "hints" to questions are just him restating a concept. He's not horrible if you are strong in math. Otherwise, he is average.
The prof is a nice guy and all but he only teaches the absolute bare minimum in his lectures and expects you to figure the rest out on your own. He makes his exams extremely difficult compared to level he teaches and often tests on problems he does not cover in class, and if he does they are poorly explained.
This class was very challenging for a base-level mathematics class. The instructor did not instruct enough material to succeed in the exams and assignments unless you spent your whole time studying math. He taught the basic level material and tested on harder material than was taught. This made it very hard to learn and succeed.
He doesn't teach at all, he just pulls out some papers, solves a few question which a toddler could do and proceeds to give you questions you must have never seen in your life in the midterm and finals
Trevor had all of our filled-in notes posted on eclass, along as online lecture videos and extra resources to use so you can do the class online or in-person. If you complete all of the assignments you can get a really high grade. He honestly didn't really teach or provide feedback, so be prepared to teach yourself! I would take his class again.
He's a great teacher and you can tell he's really smart too. It was really stressful that the final is worth half of my grade but imo, if you understand his class notes then you will have no problem on the exams given in class.
Trevor is the most okay-set prof I've ever had. He tries his hardest to make us laugh (sometimes not always successful,) so I definitely appreciate it at times. This class will be easy for you if you put in the work. I for sure am not the greatest in math, but the concepts are easy to grasp - just practice. lots of opportunities to boost your grade
He was a very nice prof, however the materials in the course work in comparison to the quizzes and final were way more challenging. I attended almost every lecture, had a tutor and performed as an average math student throughout high school, but I have never found math this difficult. Be prepared to almost entirely teach yourself.
A nice guy, but this class was extremely difficult and I think it was due to his teaching style and the general content. He doesn't explain where he got his numbers from and the material is overall confusing. I used to be strong in math but I was so lost in this class. Do not take this course unless you really need it.
A very genuine and sweet guy! He's very accessible outside of class and does well with explaining things. While I didn't have much trouble with this class because I took calc in hs, the course in itself might be heavy if you are entirely brand new. However, I know plenty who were able to do well even without taking calc in hs. Great prof though!
Pasanen is overall an extremely good professor. The course itself started off easy, but got exponentially harder as it went on so definitely prepare. His lectures were very good, concise, and he really seemed to enjoy teaching the class. Make sure to study hard for the final, but overall if you put in the effort to do well, you will do well.
Overall an okay prof, teaching style isn't the best. he tries to rush some parts of a lecture just so he finishes it that day. Midterm and final were similar to the practice exams and old exams he posts on eClass. He is helpful when you need it and he also hold workshops for assignments which is also helpful. Many ways to get bonus marks.
Written assignments were scary, online and pre class quizzes give you an easy 20%, midterm was made too hard but he acknowledged it which was nice, final was not bad, did not enjoy the prerecorded lectures (khan academy taught me better), LOTS of review material but no in class review at all, accessible office hours, alright for 1st yr students.
He posted the lecture video on website, which is really friendly for the first year international student like me(English was not ready). Even though at first I didn't understand some points in class, I can watched video after class. And his lecture is great, generally You can understand the most thing in class.
Trevor was a decent professor and started the course out strong but the last month of the semester is when things went downhill a bit. He wouldn't explain certain steps assuming you'd know how he got the answer. He was a little bit awkward especially when I went to one of his office hours so beware of that. Nice enough guy and the math fair was fun
just doesn't know how to teach IMO, at least some things he's not good at.
Professor Pasanen is a decent prof. He gave us the choice to attend the lectures in person or watch them online. The material can be complicated if math isn't your thing. There are a few ways to get bonus marks like mock quizzes which are similar to the actual unit quiz. Overall, as long as you study and take the time to practice, you'll be okay
Overall I enjoyed Mr. Pasanen as a prof. His lectures were very straight forward with lots of examples. We had mock quizzes very similar to the actual quiz the class before which was super helpful. The Final was super tough though, highly efficient mental math skills are definitely needed as calculators are not allowed for this class.
I am not usually a math person but he made it very interesting. He is definitely a prof that believes in student centered learning, he had lots of opportunities to get a higher grade as long as you put in the effort and asked questions. You can tell that he is very passionate about the subject and puts a lot of effort into making it fun to learn!
Pasanen is amazing. He has a good sense of humour, passionate about what he teaches, and teaches it well. There will be difficulties in this course yes, but you have all the tools you need to succeed with learning activities and recorded lectures. Pay attention to class or watch online lecture, one or the other or a mix of both.
Awesome prof, always made sure to explain each concept thoroughly and in a way that was easy to understand. Midterm and final were very fair and the assignments and learning activities helped me to understand the concepts more in depth. Always made time to answer questions.
There is no required textbook for this course, but there is an optional one if you want to buy it. It's a difficult course, but everything is open book. Lots of assignments to complete, but you can do multiple attempts and only the highest grade is used. Multiple workshop days to ask any questions regarding the assignments and get extra help.
He is very kind and cares about his students. Tests were hard but open book and online.
Pasanen is a passionate professor who makes this challenging course engaging. Use the recorded lectures and Unstuck AI to supplement learning - it's a big help. Attend class, do the assignments, and you'll do well.
Very nice person who is responsive to questions outside of class. Learning is mostly based off of the recorded videos rather than in-class lectures, which are dedicated to just doing practice problems--definitely some self-teaching involved. Extremely assignment heavy (for all sections though), practice is essential to getting a good grade.
Trevor is a solid prof when compared to what I have heard about the others. Math was difficult for me and I could not understand/keep up with the video lessons. His lectures are slow paced and helpful if you know whats going on before hand. However I can only credit my passing grade to the fact that I took pre calc (shoutout to goddess Margie Ray)
Trevor is a really kind and sweet prof! The course is easy, but gets a bit difficult after the midterm, but trevor is always happy to help out! I found his course super interesting. He provides lots of online tools and his exams are open book too! his explanations are usually straightforward but sometimes confusing. But overall, he is a great prof!
He's a great prof! Explains things pretty clearly with good examples. For midterms and finals, he gives practice questions that are super similar to the actual exams, so definitely practice them. Familiarise yourself with complex functions (since they're commonly used in exam Qs such as trig functions), and you'll do great!
Very kind and respectful, clearly cares about students. Sometimes moves through content a bit quickly, but is always happy to clarify or re-explain things when asked. The course itself can be difficult at times but Trevor does what he can to make it as easy as possible to understand. Definitely would recommend!
Provides many examples and gives lots of opportunities to ask questions. The course itself is difficult, however Trevor does often make it easier. Highly recommend
He's a caring and respectful professor, his lectures were clear and I really enjoyed taking classes with him
I always sucked at math but he was really nice and went through the course well and explained it nicely. I had this class over the spring so it was more condensed but I didn't feel like he was rushing through anything, he even had review classes before the midterms and finals.
I took math 260, couldnt find the tag. I wanna take it easy on the guy because he's genuinely a good dude, just not a good teacher. Lectures are boring, but it's not really necessary to attend for a good mark because he posts video lessons on canvas. Class is easy as long as you don't procrastinate because there's a lot of quizzes.
*MATH 260* Trevor is such a sweet, caring person but I found his teaching style made it difficult to fully grasp the concepts. He simply just solved the problems. He would give us time to solve problems but did not give us the tools or strategies to actually solve them.
wonderful, beautiful man, ok teacher. dropped after being slapped in the face with a 45% final. there's a lot of quizzes and tests that are basically free marks that are due at the end of the term, so you'd be guaranteed at least a pass. his teachings mid, but everything is posted online so that makes up for everything.
Trevor is the best math professor I have had a UofA. He takes the time to explain concepts well. He provides many recourses for exam prep, such as past midterms and finals. Even though a 50% final may be discouraging, if you keep up with the coursework you will be just fine. Definitely recommend this class if you need to fill a math requirement.
This is nothing against the professor, he is really kind and genuinely passionate about the math he teaches. He's always available to answer any questions you have But this class is full of new concepts I have never heard of and they are quite confusing. The lectures are super material focused and the tests are online and difficult.
I would not have passed this course if it was not for the TA's that hosted the office hours. His lectures are theory, while the tests and quizzes are applying the knowledge. For me it was a class that I did not miss out on if I skipped, as he had video lessons posted and extra practice. The final was very different from the course content imo.
Chill guy, easy to get a 100 on all the quizzes due to having infinite attempts. Lowkey easier than math in high school. Math Fair was really fun, and an easy 100 as well. Only thing is the final is harder, but he gives extra time and its open book too. There is a lot of help and almost impossible to fail if you just do the work!!
Trevor is awesome, however, his teacher style was hard to follow. I found that his lectures were more-so focused on solving equations and not really explaining or going more into the topic. Class format made it an easy grade, however I dont feel prepared for 260
Made everything due at the very end of the semester, which made it honestly more difficult to balance with other priorities. When seeking clarification on certain topics, it felt like he never could give a true explanation that was helpful. His lectures felt like he was reading off a script, it was hard to retain anything
The final was 8 questions long with 5 small parts to every question. It's worth 45% of your grade but its open book. Also 30% of your grade comes from quizzes that are open book, do anytime, and you can try them again and again.
Trevor was a great prof! Allowing us to finish the quizzes on our own time helped me a lot when my workload was heavy during the semester. I think people like to complain a lot lol his class sets you up for success. The only thing is that the open book final exam can skew the marks due to lots of people cheating so it can be difficult to get an A.
Trevor is super kind, however, the course was both painfully easy and difficult. No midterm, but 40% challenging final. The other 60% was made of quizzes and an assignment, all online with unlimited attempts, which is great until you get to the final extremely ill-prepared. I studied so much and did every practice question/final, just to get an A-.
