Most amazing prof ever! Can't wait to take evolution with him! Very helpful, makes everything simple to understand, very funny guy.
Best prof I've ever had
Fantastic Prof. Had him for ecology and evolution. Exams are fairly straight forward but there are occasional curve balls. Go to class and print out and fill in the lecture notes. You only need the textbook for the assigned readings he gives. He is really nice too. I just wish he taught more classes.
Can't say enough about this prof! Best in my time here, and I just graduated, so others had 4 years to impress. Great lectures, great attitude, and professional yet humorous. Considering biology is not my major, this course grabbed my interest and made me a little wistful I switched out years ago! Others should follow his example.
Dr. Pitcher is truly one of the most exceptional professors at the UofW. He made Evolution an amazing course and presented the material in a concise manner. You just have to really study the lectures and the pages he mentions in class to get an A in the couse, so make sure to attend every single class. Wish there were more profs like him at the uni
he made ecology a fun class the midterms are pretty fair most the material if from his lectures so its good to go to all his classes for the final study the lectures n the textbook overall great proff :D
way overrated! he doesn't know what he is talking about ... just read the book and you'll realize he just memorizes the book word for word and recites it in class as if its his own words ... its obvious he doesn't actually understand the material
he's an ok prof the material is extremely tedious. you think you understand it, then you write his midterm and walk out realizing you dont know anything. final wasnt easy at all in fact im surprised it wasn't curved. not the easiest course. he makes his midterms so that some questions are super easy and others are hard so u end up with a fair grade
Got to know him well in Anml Behav. Passionate about the material and knows his stuff. Assigns too many readings for my taste (articles and text), but he's engaging and humorous. Values teaching. Midterms and exams are challenging but manageable. 2nd class I had him in, looks like he's changed for the better: my first experience was awful.
Had him for 2 classes and taking my third with him. after writing one exam, you know what to expect for all the others. Best advice: GO TO CLASS. he gives SO many hints as to what will be on exams. And dont waste time reading the txtbook! (only the pgs he assigns). Other than that, know the lecture slides (esp. case studies) and you'll get an A! :)
Dr. Pitcher presents his students and knoweledge of the course in a very innovative, creative, and dynamic way. He is always there to ensure students have an understanding of the materials presented. Fellow classmates Aaron, Owen, and Jeff share this same apprecation for Dr. Pitcher. One of the best lectures and classes.
I had him for both Evolution and Animal Behaviour. That being said, he is a great lecturer but he rushes topics that I wish he'd explain more. He uses the textbook more than he says he will. He also has this weird innate desire to call everyone robots every 5 minutes for writing everything down. I myself find that stupid because that's how I learn.
The sections/chapters of the textbook that he tells you to read will definitely show up on midterms or exams. His lectures are interesting and easy to follow. His assignments and exams are fair as far as content goes, but he looks for very specific answers, so be sure to memorize the definitions that he gives in lecture notes.
He is a great lecturer, and it is not hard to stay interested in what he is saying, although he does talk extremely fast. A lot of the stuff he says is right from the slides so no need to rush to try to write everything down. Midterms and final were fair but watch out for the assignments. Midterm multiple choice reappear on the final.
Very interesting class. Great professor. Midterms and final exam were fair. I highly recommend this course.
Awesome professor. Loved this guy! I always find it hilarious how he insists on letting everyone out early but will rush the end of the lecture if he's cutting it close, haha. Buy the textbook too. He says you don't need it, you do. Lecture notes good for studying and exams are definitely fair. For final, review major points from WHOLE course!
Honestly, the best prof I've had . He is so fair, if you go to class, take notes, do the readings he asks and study you are guaranteed an A. He really does care about the students and the course unlike most profs. Definitely recommend taking a class with him!
Great prof, mostly tests are from his notes. but make sure to study from the book for final ..one of the best profs ever!
By far the best professor I have ever had! He cares about students and wants them to do well. He lets you know exactly what exams will cover so there are no surprises. If you go to class and get his notes you are guaranteed an A. He makes lectures so interesting and funny even when the topic is a boring one. I highly recommend taking a classwithhim
Absolutely one of the best professors at the University. Watch the slides that are left blank as those are almost guaranteed to come up on the MidtermFinal!
This is such a great prof. He makes even the most boring topic in class enjoyable. He has fair exams and is very passionate about his work. Shows you why the topics in class will matter. Great use of scientific papers and makes you feel like a scientists.
Great prof
Such an amazing professor. Finished my four years at the University and can honestly say he was the best. He is very easy going and super approachable for any questions. His midterms are more than fair and he has no problem helping those out who are struggling. Simply amazing!
INCREDIBLE PROF
Unclear grading; does not convey material clearly; textbook use is heavy; tutorials exist and are a pain as unclear grading for these as well; participation in tutorials is a must, even in extreme inclement weather as they are not cancelled; testing style needs work, as there are frequent mistakes and even questions outside the test material
Assigns an absurd amount of readings & asks short-answer questions on subtle details despite telling us not to worry about details. Class itself not too difficult, but studying is overwhelming with abundance of lecture material + sometimes over 50pgs of readings (incl. entire chapters of independent reading). Tutorial grading is very picky.
You can tell he is a good guy and would help you with any questions you had BUT the amount of textbook reading that you have to do is not fair. He claims that his final exam is broad but it was as specific as specific can be. You basically have to memorize every single thing. And not to mention, the tutorials were a waste of time and hurt my mark!
Unreliability to the extreme. Extremely inaccessible. "Know broad concepts." Gives us specific questions you'd only know if you memorized single slides. Tested more on memory than evolutionary concepts. Tutorials were ridiculous. Only way to get the answers is if you annoy the GAs enough to help you. GAs didn't bother to know the concepts in class.
Bad experience, the guy knows what hes talking about and is good at explaining it but he didn't do the course justice. Emphasizes bigger picture but will ask really dumb specific questions worth a lot. Lazy guy overall it seemed, would end class 20-30min early to answer questions about 1% of the class would benefit from instead of lecturing more.
Dr. Pitcher is one of the best professors at the UofWindsor. I have taken evolution with him and loved the topic because of his style of teaching. To make the material fun he throws in jokes as he teaches to see if you are still awake! He is very accessible outside of class and provides amazing explanations to your questions! Very understanding!!
amazing professor, really knows his stuff and his lectures are funny but informative. honestly the best course ive ever taken at the university and I would take any course taught by him. the content is basic and easy but he teaches it very well so you don't even need the textbook. best prof hands down.
I really enjoyed attending class with Pitcher. He uses a lot of real world examples which made me much more interested in the topics. He is easy to listen to and I was rarely bored in class. He is very straight forward about what is on the exams and if you study the slides, you will do well. Highly recommend waiting for Pitcher to take ecology!
Dr. Pitcher is a really nice and approachable prof. He's also funny and very knowledgeable. My issue with his course is when it comes to testing he likes very specific answers for the short answer questions and while he says "know broad concepts" or "don't worry about certain details" you're still tested on very specific lecture content worth a lot
Beware of his misleading comments like "all you need to know is" or "know broad concepts" or "you don't need to know this" in lecture because then you take his exams and get asked very specific questions that require you to memorize all slides! (not just his blank ones) He and his GA's also like very specific answers or major points are deducted.
One of my favourite classes and profs ever! Subject matter was not even interesting but somehow he made it interesting. Midterms and finals were really easy and fair. The only bad thing was the labs for this class mostly due to the GAs.
The topics discussed in Ecology class can be a little boring but he does his best to make in interesting. Need to show up to class as slides have blanks and he gives hints on what is going to be on the exam from the slides. Exams are very fair. Only part I disliked was labs as they were long and marked hard even though they seemed straight forward.
Has blanks in slides. Will tell you exactly what to read (pages instead of whole Ch.) in lecture. Is an engaging lecturer. Swears and jokes a lot. The labs for this class are terrible - long and tedious, especially the group experiment. If you can score banks off someone it's a very easy A
Dr. Pitcher is probably one of my favourite profs at the U. He is so funny in lectures, and tells you exactly what to read from the textbook instead of the whole chapter. Labs sucked, were long. But the class part was great. Made things interesting and looked forward to his class. He has blanks in his slides so attend class and you'll be all set.
Teaches concepts broadly but then choose minute details from the textbook to put on the test. Why?
very detailed lectures and makes it interesting
Professor Pitcher is one of my favorite professors I have come across. He genuinely likes to interact with students and encourages participation even with online learning. He has a way of teaching that is engaging and makes you excited for class. He does have difficult tests with a lot of memorization, but study hard and you shouldn't have issues.
Amazing prof!!! Super understanding and wants us to succeed to the best we can
Dr. Pitcher is an amazing professor. I was not a big fan of biology, especially after cell bio. He made lectures fun and interesting. Even though the class was online, he tried to be as engaging as possible. Dr. Pitcher is very straight forward with what he wants and does not want us to study for exams, which I really appreciated. Overall, amazing!
Good guy. Pretty good lecturer, boring at times, very easy class. Hard to access outside of class. Final exam was consisted mainly of Youtube videos, podcasts and readings that we had to do outside of class time, rather than lecture material itself. Tested a lot upon detailed useless information.
You MUST go to lectures because exams come from what he says. Plus, his lectures are just so amazing and interesting. Exams were fair and you have to memorize a lot. His research lectures and guest appearances were unique and amazing. He is the BEST PROF!
Love this man. Favourite class taken in university thus far. Truly cares about the students and you can tell he has a passion for evolution.
Decent professor, super engaging & did a great job being online. His test answers are straight from his slides; he posts extra videos/papers to read on top of his lectures AND tests on them - the papers are the hardest part about the material. Evolution is not my cup of tea but I enjoyed the class. Oh and.. he does not answer his emails.
Really great lecturer and made the class interesting. Mixes topics from mostly the textbook and external sources. No surprises on the test; he will tell you exactly what will be on the test. Everything is fair game, including extra readings. MEMORIZE the extra readings, he often asks obscure questions from them. Easy class if you study and attend.
straight forward teaching style, everything he taught was on the exams with no surprises. very interesting lectures and lots of class interaction.
One of the best profs I have had. Very organized and structured lectures and is so passionate about what he is teaching. Fav class of university. Exams are fair since they come straight from the textbook readings and lectures (and TBs ;)).
Broski teaches lectures and then puts 3 questions on the actual lecture portion on the exam. 95% of the MC questions are from readings, videos, papers and self-taught chapters (no TB). Qs are very specific/random (not big idea). Spent all my free time reading the assigned supplementals which made my semester horrible :/. No other class is like this
Great guy, good professor.Very caring & interesting lectures.Lectures are straightforward & easy to understand. He tests heavily on niche examples from lectures, the textbook, & extra readings.Exam questions not conceptual at all.Overall order of priority to study imo is extra readings>textbook>slides. Literally memorize examples and you'll pass.
Dr Pitcher is a good prof who is clearly knowledgeable on what he's teaching. He ensures to thoroughly explain course concepts. The downside of this course is the mass amount of textbook readings and how the majority of the exams focused on specific textbook details/studies and not on lecture topics.
He was great. I liked him a lot. Pay attention to details in the book and his class lectures.
Easily the worst professor at the university. Had him last year for biological diversity and he tested us only on minute details from extra videos and papers he made us read rather than the actual lecture material. We fell way behind the course material so ended up missing out on 5 chapters. Labs are easy but boring. Good luck having him in-person!
Such a fun prof! You can see he enjoys what he teaches,
Great teacher. He really enjoys what he teaches. He is also great at explaining things
Good professor. He explains things well and answers questions in class. He tends to test a lot on any additional material assigned like papers and movies, so make sure to study them well. But as long as you pay attention in lectures, it is easy to do very well in his class. You don't need to read the textbook unless he assigns a specific page.
He is really approachable and dedicated to do this work the right way.He encourages everyone to pursue their interest.Really informative classes and definitely suggest his classes.
Likely the best professor at the University of Windsor. He spent his first lecture going over his philosophy of teaching, and he followed it throughout the entire course. He always asked if he was going too fast and would adjust his explanations based on where previous lectures were confused. Overall an amazing person, and I was lucky to have him.
Easy prof compared to cell bio, tested on definitions mostly. Says you have to read the text book for the midterms, but only 2 questions popped up that was actually in from the textbook, but for the finial READ THE TEXT bc about 1/4 of the questions were form the book. Passionate prof cares about connections with us finding a job then grades!
One of the best profs I have ever had. Some very specific questions thrown in the exams, but overall fair. Just pay attention in class and read over chapters/readings and you'll pass.
Literally the best prof I've ever had I wish he taught all my classes. Had him for first year evolution and decided to take his 3rd year class in 2nd year. If you go to class and read the textbook you are guaranteed to do well on his exams. 10/10 recommend.
He is one of the best professors I have had so far. Going to his class is the highlight of my day because I am interested in what he has to say and he is a great speaker. He likes to keep the class engaged and will throw in some funny comments that always get a laugh. He is very straightforward with what will be on the midterms and is great.
not even done this class yet and i think his 5/5 rating is too high. he isnt hard, his lecture material is simple, but he assigns too much extra reading. half of the content on the first exam was personal readings on top of papers, videos and general lecture material. if u cant fit it in the curriculum, why is it the students' responsibility??
On a personal level, he's funny and engaging but his class is more work than its worth. He spends time repeating concepts that aren't difficult tbh, but it's good for students who might not grasp things quickly. Only issue is the content he doesn't get to cause he was going slow ends up as required readings. Literally 30% of content is self taught.
He's a great teacher and amazing at keeping the students entertained throughout his lectures. Invited his students to go see his fish research laboratory which was really cool of him. Only downside is that the midterms and finals involve a decent amount of very specific questions from the textbook readings that he assigns.
Dr Pitcher is a great professor. Makes the boring lecture interesting by adding his humour and interpretation. The midterms are very simple and is taken out of the textbook and videos/article he mades you read. I study 3-4 days before midterm and got around 85%. easy course and final exam is also same formula. Nice and funny guy that cares a lot.
Lectures are good and entertaining but exams are almost entirely on textbook and video material. Great in biodiversity but very difficult in evolution.
His lectures are easy to follow and so is the material. He teaches it well but assigns soo much extra reading. On both midterms, half the questions were from additional readings and videos so if you have the time to watch them and really study them then be my guest. id still take him again, he's pretty funny and throws in jokes a lot in lectures
Pitcher is a great prof and had entertaining lectures throughout the semester. He teaches the content well and is an approachable prof willing to answer any questions. The only issue with this class is the amount of content required for each exam. It is insane. If you want to do well, you must review the textbook and lecture slides heavily.
Great prof, lectures are very interesting and fun. Genuinely made me interested in the topics we were covering. No surprises on the exams as they're generally straight forward exams as long as you make sure to read the book. The labs are marked on completion. Overall a really great class.
memorize the textbook and external sources for his exams. theres a lot of stupid questions that don't really have anything to do with the course. luckily, labs are worth 25%, which is an easy 100 and can raise your grade. his lectures are good, but hes not even that funny idk y ppl are glazing him
Always attend his lectures as he is a very straightforward guy whatever he tells comes in the exam. Secondly,NEVER ignore the videos and summary of the papers as 10+ questions comes from there in mid terms and final. Textbook is necessary to understand the concepts clearly. Almost 80% questions came from slides and the rest 20% from textbook!
He's a good teacher even though half the time the guy is either just randomly swearing or bragging about his research he does. His lectures are good. He makes the class extra with so much readings from textbook and articles, the midterm has a lot from the readings. He's ok tho.His exams are only a few hard questions every time which are very detailed
I enjoyed my time in Pitcher's class, he's engaging and passionate. Just study all his lecture slides and the corresponding textbook chapters to do well, and DO NOT skip the readings or podcasts, those should be your first priority tbh. His midterms and final are straightforward, with just a handful of questions you have to really think on.
Trevor was by far the best lecturer I had in first year, he was engaging and you could tell he really loves the material he teaches. The exams are rough if you don't know what to study. There will commonly be questions regarding specific examples from lecture slides, and the readings/podcasts given will usually be 10-12 questions on the 60Q exams.
By far my favourite first year professor! Exams were a mix of lecture and textbook material as well as some questions from videos/research papers discussed in class. Lectures were super engaging and he made the material interesting!
Overall he's an interesting prof. There is just so much information to know. Lectures are long and extremely detailed, plus lots of textbook reading on top. Exams ask specific questions so basically have to know everything. He is super nice though
Two exams and a final but questions are straightforward. You need to write down exactly what he says as that is what is on the test. He pulls super small details from the readings he assigns. If you study, you'll do well. His lectures are good and he speaks clearly to keep students engaged. Won't get bored in class because you'll be taking notes!
Dr. Pitcher is an amazing and knowledgeable lecturer. Showing up to class is important, he drops hints about testable questions and adds more context to his slides, so make sure you take notes. Studying for this class is a nightmare; he tests you on the tiniest of details that are not relevant. I don't recommend this class if you need a BIO credit.
Content heavy course, please be aware. Bro shows no sympathy when he tells you you have to know everything.😭😭. The course itself is not bad. It's actually pretty interesting. It's just the amount of work that you have to stay on top of.
Came on here for the first time just to rate him 5 stars. His lectures can be hilarious, tests are very fair. He will help you whenever you need. Great guy. I wish he could teach all of my classes.
Pitcher is a good professor. Lectures can get a bit boring but he does his best to keep you engaged. He will often assign scientific paper and textbook readings for midterms. In 2142, theres only midterms and he WILL tell you the kinds of short answers questions there are. Exam isn't cumulative which is very nice. Go to lectures and read whats given
Both his biodiversity class and evolution class he makes super engaging. His exams are very detail oriented so make sure to study EVERYTHING on his slides and do the assigned textbook readings. He always emphasizes in class what concepts are important so it's easy to guess possible exam questions. Overall amazing prof!
