Possibly the most entertaining math teacher you could ever hope for. Charismatic, knowledgable, prompt, organized, and fun. A model of how Calculus should be taught!
I honestly did not know I could do math at all until I had Tricia- she absolutely hates to leave anyone behind. You really have to not try to not make it with her.
Horrible teacher, not hot and uses childish language. Grade is soley based on quizzes and tests(worst teacher ever)
Out of my complete educational experience, this is the first teacher to ever get me to embrace math and help me understand math. Ms. Perkins Rocks!!!!!
When asked to explain how to work a problem she her usual response is "what do you mean you don't understand, it's so easy"
Tricia takes a very no-B.S. approach to teaching math. Yes, some find her personality style a bit hard to deal with, but she effectively teaches what she aims for students to learn. She actually taught me to LIKE doing math, and to this day I remember the things she taught me more than others.
The BEST MATH TEACHER I've ever had!!!! and I'm a foreign student so it was double hard for me, and still - she's at the top of my list. she was a drama teacher for 10 years before converting to math (go figure) so the class is really animated and understandable for normal non-mathy type people.
she was cool but her only flaw was that she didnt make you turn in homework so the grade was only based on quizes and tests and you had to motivate yourself to learn stuff
Trisha is straight to the point. Take her, work hard, learn much. Dont mess arround, dont be late, she's an amazing teacher if youre a good student. She takes a lot of interest. She helped me become a good student.
Omg i loved her! She was so easy to get along with. Even though her lectures were a bit unclear, she made it up by going up to each table and making sure everyone understood.
Tricia lacks the ability to explain math as a theory. Her teaching style belongs in an Elementary school. She uses cute analogies and tricks to explain concepts. This style ill prepares you for more advanced courses...
She was more or less a good teacher. The structure of the class was perfect for math! Homework was reviewed in class but never counted as part of your grade. Let me warn you though, you better know the material if you dont do the homework!
The crazy lady doesn't let you use a calculator on tests! Homework isn't counted toward your grade, and she skips around a lot. It is impossible to read ahead because you don't know where shes going.
The class is pretty easy, i think you guys can get a good grade from her without doing reviews and previews.! She is helpful and cute!
She is very direct and can come across as unhelpful, however, her teaching style in the classroom is pretty good and you can supplement your knowledge with the textbook. Her voice affectation is distinctive! Good instructor overall, I think. Study for her exams!
I didnt like taking her class. She doesnt count the homework you do toward your grade. Your final grade is based on your test scores. She skips around a lot. Her syllabus is worthless. She told me to get rid of my solutions manual when she saw me using it. She thinks people should only do things her way. I wouldnt take a class from her again.
This teacher never brought her own mathbook to class (and used my copy throughout the quarter) but remembered to bring her purse and bottle of soda. Lectures were worthless and not very concise. If self teaching is your style this class is worth it, because she is not very clear for a pre-calculus level class in preparation for calculus.
Ms Perkins is definitely an odd-ball, but she does a good job at teaching. She's not been my favorite math teacher because she does lack a certain technical savvy-ness. She is NOT recommended for those who have to take serious math classes in the future. If you're just looking to fill a math requirement, she's an easy grade.
if you do not test well, then don't take her class, if you do, then this class is great. She knows her stuff, but can be fast and if you fall behind CATCH up. She has a make or break attitude toward her students
I really enjoyed taking her class. Grading is definitely test oriented, but keep on classwork and you'll be fine. She simplifies things to make them easily understood and definitely doesn't lack knowledge on the subject matter. She's constantly writing on the board and doing examples, careful to show work for every step.
she is the best math teacher I've ever had.she know exactly what she is doing,if you have problem on somthing she would convinced you she would try diffrent way to make sure you got the solution.I really enjoy her class you won't be bored in her class.Iwas really eager to go to class everyday.you will love her class.
I took the express class with her which compounded two classes in one quarter. She is an amazing teacher and proves that you can be goofy yet passionate about math at the same time. Her exams were challenging but not out there. Check her grading though, occasionally she marked me wrong for stuff I didn't do.
Tricia is one of the best Math teachers I've ever had. I never thought math made sense until i learned it from her. She is absolutely wonderful!! Anyone who has a chance to take her should have no doubt about who to sign up for.
Will dock your points heavily for ABSENCES, even if your doing great on tests. If not one of her daily attenders, can have an abrasive attitude with you. Can clearly see who she favors in class. Teaches well, gives good examples. Skips around in the book, but it works in the teaching flow. Your grade= quizzes+tests+attendance+in class work+Final.
The class felt a little high school- mandatory attendance and no late assignments- but it's easy enough to get through because the math is so simple. Tricia drove me crazy, she enjoys acting cutesy and pretending her students are kids, but it's obvious she just wants to keep the mood light. Nice enough lady.
I did not like the class much. her teaching style was very controlling not allowing any learning from your peers. Made it hard to follow in class. She was very unorganized and provided no dates for future tests or quizes.
Tricia is absolutely the best math teacher i've ever had in my whole life. She explains materials thoroughly. She didn't grade homework or attendence. But if you take her class, you will need to be there and do the work. She's very helpful when you work w/ her. She's excellent in teaching!
If you enjoy being talked to in a baby voice, and being shouted at to USE YOUR BRAIN NOT YOUR CALCULATOR at least ten times everyday, then her class is for you! Trisha is like a displaced kindergarden teacher, always dancing around, talking in a baby voice one minute, then yelling at her students to grow up.. Absolutely ridiculous. Transfer out.
Professor Perkins is a good teacher! She explains the concepts well, lots of homework, and is very friendly! Grades are based on tests scores. Although her homework policy is harsh, the tests/quizzes are straight foward. However, course material is tough! Pay attention and show up every day. Take her class but have patience w/ the course material.
Worst teacher I ever had. I am pretty good with math and consider myself intelligent. This is test based and the material on the test does not correspond with the worksheets she hands out as test reviews.Would not recommend.
Trisha is a very helpful teacher. She can, and will, happily spend most of the class answering students questions. She only get's frustrated if she's being ignored and the only people in my class who seemed to dislike her were the ones who did't regualarly do their homework and did poorly on tests. She doesn't grade homework, tests and quizes only.
HORRIBLE!!!!! PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS TO YOURSELF! Her voice is so irritating!! Learned absoulutly NOTHING!!!!
If you don't like or understand math this she is good to take. She did loads of examples which were really helpful. Tests are worth 100% of your grade though, with the occasional "10 point day" where you got points for just showing up. Tests are average in difficulty, beware of the story problems!
Tricia is one of the best teachers I've ever had. I am not into math and her method of teaching helped me get a 4.0 two quarters in a row. She is tough, but only if you don't attend class everyday, mess around with your phone, talk while she's lecturing, etc. Frankly, people that aren't serious about school annoy me too. Excellent teacher!
Fantastic teacher. She's fun, interesting, excitable, and funny. She really cares that her students learn and does a good job of presenting material and making sure everyone's following along. Super adorable!
She teaches to fast. And beware... she only grades for test and quizes so if you are horrible at taking test, stay far away from this class as possible. I am pretty sure eight other students are failing this class as well as me. I am doing the homework, studying and tutoring and I still cannot keep up with her.
I love Tricia! I had her for 084 and 085.. She's abosolutley my greatest teacher so far. She doesnt collect homework, but she has about 8 quizzess and 1-2 exams throughout the quarter. She's very fun to be around and tries to make things funny sometimes.. She can be a bit bipolar at times, but just stay on her good side and a 4.0 will be granted :)
She teaches math with a sense of humor. Her lectures are very informative, when you miss one of her lectures the book doesn't quite cut it. Grades are based solely on tests. Her tests are not easy but a 90% is a 4.0 Take her if you tend to test well, avoid her if don't.
Don't miss a day. Tests/quizes are your only way to make points, mess up a couple of those and you're stuck. At the same time, test well and you're good.
Tricia is great and I love her sense of humour!! Also, very willing to help if you get stuck.. just knock on her office door!
Tricia is one of those teachers that will do twenty example problems lighting fast but never slow down so you can understand what she is actually doing. She doesn't give you credit for anything besides tests and quizes, so if you don't test well your screwed. If you are already good at math then take her classes.
She moves way too fast. She doesnt allow calculaters at all. No homework accepted, the exams and quizzes are nothing like the worksheets she hands out. She keeps her class even when its time to go. I wish i never took her
This is not an easy class. That said, Tricia is an excellent teacher. Concepts are clearly explained and tests are more than fair. Your entire grade IS based on tests and quizzes. Homework is OPTIONAL (but recommended). Generally no calculators are allowed on tests/quizzes. I highly recommend this class! Tricia is a great teacher.
Her lectures are sometimes confusing and she moves along fast. She knows her stuff so well I think she has a hard time teaching it clearly. She has a good sense of humor and is a helpful mentor. Sometimes she is very moody.
No calculators and rote memorization of all formulas is required. She seems annoyed and tries to rush through explanations when you want clarification during office hours. Tests are always too much work for the time allotted.Loves to drop the fact that she's got a PhD in mathematics. Teaching style is piss poor all across the board. Don't take her.
This is the absolute best math instructor at SCCC. If you are 18 and don't give a crap she'll sniff you out and make your life hell. For those "no nonsense" students who want to learn, she's the absolute best. period.
Tricia is a good teacher. If you're interested in learning, show up for her class, pay attention, and test well, you'll do fine She has no patience for interruptions of her lectures or of other students. She's tough but funny and fair. She only uses the book for homework problems, so save your $ by photocopying from a classmate or the library
She's an amazing math teacher. She explains things very clearly and will do as many practice problems as you need. She teaches in a way that makes it really easy to understand and remember.
This class is terrible. I am very good at Math but got very low score for the first exam.I thought I would get a very high score. She is a extremely hard grader, she tried to find something to take the points off. I felt like she wants the students to fail in the life. Make sure u are not ISt. Come on! if you want your GPA degraded so take her3383
This teacher has no sympathy for anything if something is late. Not if you get hit by a car or get your things stolen. She speaks to fast, phones are not allowed. She also doesnt give extra credit.I recommend you find another teacher who is better. My GF had to teach me everything while I took the class because the teacher couldnt explain it well enough
strict grader, kicks you out if you have a phone on or out.No symphony for anything that is late. speaks too fast! doesn't explain things very well! doesn't give extra credit at. only take if there isnt someone better out there!!!
By far the best math teacher at SCCC. She GENUINELY cares about your learning. Do not text during class--she will kick you out. If you're serious about your education you wouldn't text in class anyways. Also, she doesn't allow calculators: in my opinion, a plus! I'm going into mechanical engineering so I need to learn not to rely on a calculator.
Holy, seriously. I don't know why she teaches so slow in the first half of the course, then boost so fast afterwards. Got pretty confused sometimes :(
OMG!You will regret once you take her.You need to understand the concept in her way and explain it scientificcally(in her way) in order to get points or you will get the wholething ZERO!Come on!this is just the beginning of Introduction to linear algebra, she expects u to think in her PhD way. Wish the time turn back so my GPA will not be affected!
If you are really good at Math and confident in it, don't be too confident in this class! You clearly understand the materials does not mean you will get good grade. There is no scale for the grade point in her syllabus, I wish she won't be strict about it or many people will fail.
Never learned that much in a math class. She is strict with no calculators or phones but serious about having you understand the material. Great explanations and examples as you need them. I recommend paying attention and showing up for class. I will be taking her in my next math class. Wonderful teacher!
Extremely moody, friendly and helpful one day, screaming at you and berating you for taking too many notes in class next day. Although I did not have any problems with her directly and she was decent to me the entire quarter I found that her disruptions were more destructive to the class content than any of the students were the entire course.
If you like math; for real and not just BSing. Then this class will make you grow. She follows the book nearly exactly and if you want to do well read and understand the book. People will complain as they always do, but if you work hard you can do well.
Terrible
This class is jumpy. It would help to have a course outline available, easy access to grades, and graded assignments to know where your at, but that doesn't happen due to her paranoia of cheating. She is good at math, not at teaching. She connects to a few students in the room who she obviously likes but leaves a majority of the class alienated.
She obviously understands the math well, but the "slap- it-together" style of teaching left me in the dust. I felt like she had moved on to the next subject before I could even figure out what I wanted to ask. The only indicators for how well you understand are tests and quizzes.
She is not as hard as many people say, but hard nonetheless. Think of it as being in a boot camp program, where the weak is weeded out. Except that by weeding out, I mean you might get a C instead of an A. Overall, she is fair and square. Do the work and you'll do well in class.
Awesome teacher!
She doesn't help any thing with math220. rather she will be better if she works in the lower class. she missed up a lot of students life
Took math 98 in the fall. She does not give multiple versions of tests, and the students are grouped in 4's so cheating is almost inevitable. She spends the entire test periods yelling at people telling them to look at their own paper instead of just writing two different tests. Overall poor experience with her and do not recomend.
She uses a lot of funny little illustrations (and sometimes sounds) in her lectures which helps keep my attention. Always open for questions about the homework and actively helps with worksheets in class. Even though you don't get graded on homework or attendance you should do both or you won't keep up with the pace of the class.
If math is not your strong suit, I do NOT recommend her as a teacher. She moves very quickly and her teaching style is very poor. do not even think about coming into her class a week late from when classes start. You'll fail. She gives quizzes about once a week, and test twice during the quarter.
This women is obviously having problems outside of class and bringing into the classroom. Its not fair. VERY passive aggressive individual. Very keen on innuendoes towards students and is just not a very happy person. smart, just doesn't look like she enjoys teaching, plain and simple. Don't take the class. Had her for math 141
Really funny. If you actually do all the homework that is assigned and bring questions to class, it is very hard to get lower than an 90% on anything.
Show up to class everyday and do homework and you will pass and actually enjoy yourself.
Expect to get nothing from this class. Her teaching style is very unprofessional and she doesn't bother to make sure everyone understands the topic before moving on to the next topic. She doesn't give partial credits in quizzestests so expect low scores there. Overall, she's just a poor teacher. She doesn't care if you're struggling.
WORST TEACHER EVER
Worst math teacher I have ever had. Worked really hard, completed 90% of the homework, attended all classes/ lectures, went to office hours for help, and still ended up with a terrible grade. Bombed all of her extremely hard exams and she really just didn't care how hard I was trying. Math is not my strong suit, but I have never gotten less than B
Her handwriting is absolutely terrible, to the point where it will effect your education. And her teaching style is weird because she uses different letter then your used to like she uses v to mean distance rather then D and you might be used to v being velocity. She's an ok teacher, Ive had better teacher in high school
Tricia's goal is to train competent mathematical thinkers, not to help students sneak through prereqs easily. She's very demanding regarding attendance and homework. She's very detail oriented and clearly knows the textbook inside and out. She's also sharp as a whip and her lecture style allows a good amount of interaction while staying on topic.
If you're confused and think you should ask a question, DON'T. It's a waste of your time and dignity - instead of getting half an answer and shamed, just look it up. Though she has read the textbook, she insists on not using their notation or equations - "you must use your brains". Unstructured, poor website, ineffective & horribly rude.
Tricia gets mixed reviews but she's truly a great teacher & WILL make you better at Math. At the Calc 2 level she isn't spoon feeding you information, she wants you to think critically using what you've learned. While this class is tough, it's completely doable if you put the work in. She's got a great personality & class is fun. Show up to class!
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. If you have to take math, PLEASE CHOOSE ANOTHER PROFESSOR. She teaches one chapter per day. Homework is not needed for this class. get A with 90% and up, take homework from worksheets for the quiz. tests are hard. Teaching really fast. Bozth is the best choice for students who want to take Math in SCC.
She gives quizzes every week and about 3 test the whole quarter. The quizzes are usually 3 or 4 questions so if you get one wrong you pretty much fail the quiz. The test are very difficult I would spend weeks studying homework and review sheets. But once the test comes she hits you with totally new content. Overall worst math class ever.
Tricia is a great person, but a dreadful teacher. She understands mathematics, but not how to teach it. She cannot see math from the perspective of a beginner anymore. If you want a lecture that's too fast paced to take notes, and almost entirely verbal, then go for it. Otherwise save your gpa and take someone else.
She is an amazing teacher. Her lectures are engaging and clear. The homework load for this class is somewhat heavy, but she does her best to go over key points from the homework in class, so it is okay to miss a couple of homework assignments (it is probably best to go back and do them before tests). Her class is not easy, but I learned a lot.
Perkins is fun to talk with, but awful to learn from. Condescending in her lectures. Motivates you to learn by humiliating you and attacking you personally. Grades very few things, so if you struggle on one test, you might not pass. No EC, does not respond well to questions, sometimes 8hrs of HW a night, and blamed us when 2/3 of us failed a test.
She is a scholarly instructor in math, it is easy to learn and understand that she taught in the classes.
Her lectures are usually clear. She could convey mathematical terms in a way that you would easily understand. If you have question about anything, she will answer you immediately. Her tests are fairly simple too.
DO NOT take her if you care about your GPA. She assigns lots of homework but does not grade any of it. Your grade will depend on quizzes and tests only so if you fail one test you will most likely fail the class.
Your grades depends on your tests. She does not grade homework, so you can't look towards that to boost your grade. Unless you pass your quizzes/exams you will pass this class, otherwise, don't bother with her as an instructor.
Professor Perkins will base your grades off of her quizzes and tests. If you mess up any of the quizzes or tests you probably fail.
She really is trying to teach. If you are NOT rdy DON'T SIGNUP. There's no point because her quizzes MATTER. Attending class will not matter, but studying the section will matter because she grades them.
Act like you don't know the material in class. If she knows that you know the material, she will make the quizzes, exams, and finals way more difficult. She will not teach in class. Thinking about going to a SAM tutor? Forget it; she will purposely not include anything taught by the tutors.
Horrible professor, doesnt know how to team and communicate in class and with her students. Complains more than teaching. Overall, HORRIBLE dont take this class.
Tricia Perkins expects you to know the material before coming to class. She will not go over some of the material in class and even if you raise your hand to ask questions, she may not answer them.
Prof Perkins goes over the material in the book briefly. She does not answer the questions being asked fully. I had actually reported her to the dean and the dean said she would email her, but nothing happened.
Tricia only counts your quizzes and tests for your final grade. Prepare and read the material before class like you are taking a final. I usually get A's, but she gave me an F. Overall, I DO NOT recommend her to anyone.
I had Tricia spring quarter and it was absolutely the worst. I had to drop the class because of how terrible her grading system is. She only grades tests/quizzes. Nothing else. I can't express how angry she made me because of her attitude and overall teaching. She teaches material like you should already know it, and she has a short temper.
