Dr. Vickrey taught lecture like we were in high school. We started class with warmup worksheets and she had us compare answers with our neighbors a lot, which I wasn't a fan of, but she made up for it by offering multiple review sessions a week, some for extra credit. Also, once she learned your name, she never forgot it.
Dr. Vickrey is a great professor especially since CHEM 109 is considered to be one of the tougher classes for first and second year students. All of the test averages from her class were 6-12 points higher on each exam. She offers many opportunities for students to learn the material by hosting review sessions twice a week.
Dr. Vickrey skims through lectures and doesnt take the time to describe what were talking about. There are notes that she says are important during lecture, but then she doesnt give enough time for the students to copy them down. The class includes a lot of homework and independent study. If youre not willing to teach yourself, no one will.
Dr. Vickery goes through the powerpoint slides very quickly and does not go into a lot of detail on the things that she feels are self explanatory, regardless of whether or not us students understand it. She has a tendency of making you feel incompetent when you don't understand and she often has a negative and sassy attitude towards the class.
Dr. Vickrey was a good teacher if you look strictly at content. She moves a little quickly but isn't someone who is easy to talk to. She isn't super personable and was usually irritable in class. If you are not a fan of teachers who are not friendly, I wouldn't recommend her.
Dr. Vickrey was a good enough professor- she obviously knows the material. Sometimes she can be rather cynical about the class as a whole, but if you speak with her one on one, she is a lot more amiable and willing to answer whatever questions you have. Going to class is important because she gives hints about the tests.
Quizzes for lecture and lab every week. Hard to keep track. It is a harder class so skipping is a BAD idea. Professor provides PowerPoint slides of lecture notes.
She is not the best, but not the worst. She is kind of disorganized and lectures were extremely boring.
Pros: Dr. Vickrey is light on lecture, heavy on solving problems. She will do one or two herself and then invite the class to try. This engagement pays off in the long run. Cons: if you need help with the basic concepts, it is possible to be left behind in lecture. Thoroughly read the text and attempt to work problems yourself ahead of class.
Dr. Vickrey was one of the best profs I met. She is a great person and I personally loved her class. She would do all it takes to help you if you put in the effort and at least try. The material is very hard so make sure to practice a lot before exams.
Vickrey is great about highlighting what will be on the tests and focuses heavily on math calculations and problems. She definitely wants her students to succeed and focuses the entire lecture on chem. Just DON'T pack your stuff up before lecture is over or she will get mad.
She really wants to help you pass the class, all you have to do is email her and ask her for some help. She let me go in during her research time to get help before an exam, and it was worth it.
She is really accessible outside of class and wants her students to succeed. She assigns online homework once a week but there are usually 10 attempts for each problem. And if you don't understand the question, you can just take a picture of the problem and she'll do all she can to make sure you understand it.
Professor Vickrey genuinely cares for her students so much. She's very good about providing lots of examples, going over lessons from the previous class, and really goes into detail when explaining content. She's genuinely a nice person. Just don't try to pack up early.
I think that Vickrey is an extremely good teacher, she has very well structured lectures that focus on core ideas and she includes a fair amount of practice problems to help you understand the concepts. You can tell that she really cares about her students and wants them to succeed.
Very positive and gave good lectures. Always asked for questions. Made chemistry so much more enjoyable.
Her classes consistently got higher averages on the exams which is a good sign. She moves very quickly through the concepts during lectures, but if she senses people are not understanding the problems we solve she will spend more time on them. She also posts in class notes on Canvas so if you miss something (and you will) its easy to fill in notes
Cool teacher but her lectures are pretty boring(partly because of a boring subject) and she gets very angry if anyone packs up even a minute before class is out.
Dr. Vickrey was an excellent chemistry teacher and her lectures were very helpful. She makes the class easier, not harder. She offers some extra credit and lots of out of class help. If you are struggling in the class she will find ways to help you, if you have a good relationship. I highly suggest taking CHEM 109 with her!
Dr Vickrey is amazing because she cares about her students. She encourages thoughtfulness and participation, and she is always willing to answer questions. She teaches in a more casual style and tries to make things very easy and simple to understand. If you are really willing to try and ask for help, she will know you by name and help you succeed.
Dr. Vickrey made chem easy for me. The resources she provided, such as her comprehensive notes, accessible office hours, and extra credit, allowed me to do my best on the exams. Her presentations are extensive and, honestly, reading the chapter wasn't necessary for most units. She is overall an amazing teacher and wants the best for her students.
Dr Vickrey is an outstanding professor. She makes the portion seem easy, even if it is not. he is extremely caring and always willing to help.
One of the best professors Ive had the chance to take, have to put In work and effort but worth it
Dr. vickrey is one of the best professors for gen Chem. I had her for Chem 109 and Chem 110 and honestly, her teaching, accessibility outside of class time and care for her students is beyond special. I am grateful to have been a part of her class and sucks that I dont have to take chemistry anymore, but I would 100% recommend her.
Explained things really well. I always had class during her office hours so she was always willing to meet with me outside of office hours and that's probably the reason why I did so much better in Chem 110 than Chem 109. Always be willing to work a problem with you and work with you until you understood. She never gave up!
yeah, no, dont like her
Dr. Vickrey is a great professor. She really cares about her students and makes helpful review materials specific to the exam. I haven't had any other professors, but based on what my friends' think of their professors for chem 109 are I would say she is the best.
A lot of people dislike Dr. Vickrey and I am not sure why. She genuinely cares about her students. She uploads all her lectures online, makes additional materials to study off of, and even has office hours. She fully dedicates herself to the class and wants you to succeed. You have to work hard in the class, but she works hard with you! She cares!!
While class isn't mandatory, it's a good idea to go. She's a very sweet and caring professor, strongly recommend going to office hours. Exams are worth about 60 percent of your grade but she covers material very well and shares a lot of out of class review material to help you study. Would 100% recommend taking her, really cares about her students.
Dr. Vickrey does a really good job explaining the material to students. Class isn't mandatory and she posts lectures online. Dr. Vickrey creates a lot of review material which is super helpful for the exams. Exams are kinda tough for 100 class but there are lots of other points with hw, clickers and lab. Overall excellent professor.
Dr. Vickrey is a great professor which is why I have decided to take another class with her. She is clear and helpful especially if met with one on one. She is more than willing to provide extra practice for her students even if it means more work for her. Definitely my favorite professor so far.
Dr. Vickrey is one of the best professors that I've had so far. She explains concepts in a clear and concise way and also provides lots of extra review material for the unit tests. She is easily accessible outside of class, answering emails promptly and holding office hours frequently. I HIGHLY recommend that you take Vickrey for Chem 109!
Dr. Vickrey is overall a good professor but does not go over many examples is class that are tested over on the free response section of the exams. Can go off on tangents often. Attending lectures, recitation, office hours, supplemental instruction, and the resource center is crucial in achieving a good grade.
Exams are more difficult than they should be for a freshmen level class. She really tries to teach but with classes being 50 minutes long theres really not good instruction that goes into the structure. If you don't read you won't understand any of this class or the formulas to take her exams.
Dr. Vickrey was one of the best professors I have ever had. She was incredibly accessible and was very willing to answer any questions you had and was willing to work with you in any way she could. With that being said, you still needed to work hard to get a good grade, but that's expected of O chem. She gives you plenty of practice problems.
It is amazing how she is amazing!
She is pretty nice, but gets annoyed when students don't understand "the basic topics" which is really annoying. Overall chem109 is just a difficult class but if you really study for the tests and take advantage of recitation and the resource center, you can do pretty good.
I thought Vickrey was a fantastic teacher. She truly went above and beyond to provide extra materials to study and would record supplemental videos. she would also hold office hours and exam reviews and post them. the tests were fair, nothing surprising. I learned a lot from this course. She gives great feedback. Talking to her is very helpful
I took Organic Chemistry with Dr. Vickrey and she made it really enjoyable. This class seems very daunting at first, but she makes it very easy to understand. If you do all of her recommended problems and homework assignments you will pass. The only reason I gave her a 4 instead of a 5 is because her lectures are a little bit boring.
I loved Dr. Vickery! She explained things clearly and provided SO many opportunities to practice and learn. She tells you clearly how to succeed, you just need to put in the work. Make sure to review homework, old exams, recitation problems, etc.
Probably a very nice person, but her approach to teaching organic chem is awful. No class should have exams be worth 78% of your grade, especially with COVID forcing us to basically take the class online. She spends too much time going over simple stuff and then rushes through topics that we actually struggled with. Super vague question answers.
I had Vickrey for both chem 109 and 251. she is very kind and wants her students to be successful. She is very organized and provides lots of examples in class and makes resources for students to practice outside of class. The exams do look like the material learned in class. Some people may not like her teaching style, but she does do a good job.
Dr. Vickrey is AMAZING. How she only has a 3.9 rating baffles me. She is relatable, caring, well spoken, and passionate about chemistry. She give so many additional worksheets and problems to help her students gain enough practice for exams. Organic chemistry is not easy but is rewarding. The chemistry department is lucky to have her.
Dr. Vickrey is a fantastic professor. She truly cares about her students learning the material and not just memorizing it. She provides plenty of practice problems and study materials. Take exams really seriously. Second Language book is really helpful. Go to class, take notes, do practice problems and truly understand the content and you will pass
Dr. Vickrey is a very professional instructor. How her rating is sub 4.0 should not be taken seriously, she is far better than that. She gives lots of supplementary worksheets and practice problems as she wants every single student to succeed. One midterm exam out of 5 dropped. Do the homework, study effectively and you will get an A.
She is an amazing professor who truly cares about each student. She held multiple review sessions before every exam and was always willing to meet outside of office hours. I personally didnt like lectures and didnt learn much from them. One of the few teachers who understands we have multiple tough classes, drops one homework/reading, exam.
very nice person
I had Trisha for Organic Chemistry 1 and she was great. I recommend using every resource/worksheet she posts in canvas, as those helped me study for each exam. Also, start studying early. Ochem isn't super hard, you just need to get prepared in advance. Recitation quizzes sucked though, make sure you have a good TA.
Dr. Vickrey is an amazing professor. She gives so many helpful resources and truly wants all of her students to succeed. Do not wait til the last second to study for exams, it's doable but I highly recommend studying the entire week before the exam. The tests are not hard at all as long as you've done enough practice problems to feel confident.
Hard class, but she's a good prof. Genuinely wants students to succeed, provides lots of resources. USE THEM. Keep up with material as she covers it. She's a little intimidating but very kind and caring.
Good lectures. Multiple resources and extra practice so you can do well. Tests are fair and reflect the lectures.
Dr. Vickrey has been a great professor and has honestly made Organic Chem a lot better than I thought it would be. I had her for both Ochem 1 and 2 and she grew to be one of my favorite professors. She gives a TON of outside resources to help students succeed. The class is hard but tests are straightforward and consistent with the lectures.
I love Dr. Vickrey. I had her for organic chemistry 1 and 2. She is very smart, funny, and a great lecturer. I recommend going to her office hours and doing all of her study worksheets.
Dr. Vickrey is very caring and encouraging and she responds to questions promptly, even outside of school hours. The criteria are clear for the exams, and all topics on the tests are covered well in the lecture. I didn't read the textbook at all and still managed to get an A, because her lectures are very informative.
This course was very enjoyable this semester, yes it is very tough and demanding of you. But Dr. Vickrey does a fantastic job in lecture and in office hours if you ever have a specific question. Be prepared to study at least a week in advance but a good grade is easily attainable if you put in the needed effort and reach out when you may need help.
I wish I could take all chemistry classes with Dr. Vickrey. Overall, beyond solid as an instructor and role model.
Take this class with her!! You will succeed with the right amount of work. She cares so much about your success.
Homework/textbook/Tophat were entirely unhelpful. Do the worksheets because the only way to succeed is through a lot of practice. The class favors students who have an iPad. Dr. V herself has a passive aggressive attitude at times teaches either too slow or too fast and it is often times hard to see what she is writing. Not the best not the worst.
Best Professor I've had here by far
Vickrey is one of the best professors I have ever had. She cares deeply about making sure her students understand the material, and she does everything in her power to help her students. I would highly recommend taking her classes for organic chemistry. It's a tough class but she is the best professor to help you through it.
Very nice prof. She really cares about her students.
I really enjoyed having her as a professor for O Chem 1. I thought she did an amazing job of explaining things. She is a no nonsense professor so just be prepared, but outside of class she is super sweet and always willing to help if you are having issues with a concept. She really cares and as long as you give her respect she will help you.
Dr. Vickrey is truly the best, kindest professor I've ever had. It is not an easy class, but she prepares you well for success between her lectures, practice material, and accessibility. The TAs are also amazing. Attend class and recitation, do all of the worksheets for true understanding, and you'll do well on tests. She also drops 1 exam.
Literally the best ever. Take this class with Dr. Vickrey if you can. There are so many resources she has for students and is wonderful. She genuinely cares about your success.
Dr. Vickrey is one of the best professors I have ever had! She cares about her students so much. I did really poorly in gen chem, but once I came into her class, I instantly felt like I was actually learning the material well, and knew how to practice. She gives such amazing feedback and gives you so many practice problems for the material!
Dr. Vickrey is incredibly smart, though she has a few mistakes in lecture and on worksheet keys. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE WORKSHEETS! they are incredibly helpful for the exams and practice exams are available as well. I didn't read the textbook but I did the worksheets and practice exams as well as re-watched the lectures. good luck
I would not be anything without Dr. Vickrey. She is one of the best professors I've had at UNL. I was really scared coming into CHEM 251 but she has made ochem one of my favorite topics! She can go pretty fast during lectures so beware of that. The homework load is light. This class is difficult but with hard work and Vickrey, you can succeed too!
Sets you up for success, if you do not do well she is very helpful. Class lectures are actually very useful.
Omg I literally have never had such a good professor at UNL. Dr.Vickrey is a must for OChem, but she is the best of the best. She is super available especially if you need one on one help with her she is more than willing to do so!! In order to succeed in her class I believe her worksheets are the best!! Overall great person
Dr. Vickrey truly cares about her students and wants you to succeed. She provides old exams and creates worksheets for practice beyond what's in the recitation book. Lectures are easy to follow however I will say that they are fast paced. She also would create worksheets for office hours that you could still access if you were unable to attend.
In my opinion, Dr. Vickrey is overhyped, primarily because her class is so easy to get a satisfactory grade in/pass. In my experience, lectures were boring and mediocre, following a robotic and tedious "lecture outline" every session. I honestly do not think I got an objectively good organic chemistry education, in a broader context.
Dr. Vickrey really cares about her students and will provide you with endless resources to succeed. As long as you go to lecture and occasionally do her practice worksheets, you should be fine.
Vickery is super nice and a great professor. I feel like I learned a lot from her lectures. Organic Chemistry is hard but she helps you learn with practice worksheets and extra videos. She is super understanding when you are sick and I appreciate the dropped worst exam.
I am not smart but I am also not stupid. She made me feel stupid. Her canvas page is set up horribly. She runs her assignments, lectures, and notes on three different websites. She comes to class expecting you to already be a master at the subjects so if you aren't you will be lost the entire time. her style may be for you, but it wasn't for me.
Dr. Vickrey is awesome! She's so caring and kind, it's clear that she has a passion for both chemistry and teaching. Her lectures are easy to follow bc she provides an outline. There are also so many resources provided to study like worksheets and practice exams, and the exams are fair. Ochem 2 is hard but definitely doable with Dr. Vickrey.
Dr. Vickrey is a great professor! She provides outlines for her lectures which was nice. She does sometimes go too slow or too fast.
If you are worried about ochem, don't be with Dr. Vickrey! She is so amazing and willing to help. For me, success in this class involved printing lecture outlines + taking notes in class, and working on ALL the worksheets and practice exams she provides. Tests are exactly what you have learned! She prepares you well and doesn't try to surprise you
I worship this woman. If you have the opportunity to take a class with her, never pass it up. Ochem is hard, but she makes it as interesting and accesible as possible. I have never had a professor care so much about their students and their success. She sets the bar so high.
Dr. Vickrey is very good at giving engaging lectures that teach concepts surprisingly well for o chem. She cares a lot about her students and has decent humor that makes her hard not to like. She also provides outstanding additional resources to study for exams. Attendance is based on clicker points, but it is very beneficial to attend lectures.
Dr. Vickrey is an excellent organic chemistry professor--I took her for 251 and 252 and would continue to take her if possible. She cares about you, and makes a very challenging subject feel doable.
Dr. Vickrey is very kind and incredibly skilled at what she does. She offers a ton of supplementary materials that make studying easier and more manageable for this difficult class.
Avoid Professor Vickrey for online classes. No guidance, no help, and discouraging responses made the course stressful. I felt blamed and dismissed. Please take this honest review seriously—she ruined my academic term. I do not recommend her under any circumstance.
Trisha is an unethical professor who puts her students down and does not care about their learning experience. She mest up my grade and I wish I took with another professor who actually cared about their students and their learning experience. Do not take here at all
Vickrey is a bad professor she does not care for her students I came to know all of the good reviews about her are created by the department erin may to make her look good erin may falsely accuses students and so does vickrey stay away from this professor and take biochemistry elsewhere or with another professor
My grade was an A at the end of the quarter, right before final grades were submitted, she changed it to a B with NO explanation and it was too late at that point to question it because I noticed it later on. For every test, each student gets a random question bank which is NOT a fair method to test people's knowledge. She also does not teach.
