He's a great guy, really funny, and super helpful. He tends to be fast paced in class, but he has an open door policy and will see you anytime you walk in. He's very understanding and knowledgeable in his field. He loves what he does. and he wants everyone to do good.
Dr. Brachey is probably one of my favorite math teachers that i ever had. i love math, and he explains the material very well, and he is very helpful outside of class.you should do the homework, even though it is not mandatory, test, quizzes lil bit easy. highly recommend
He was great. He got more and more lax as the semester progressed. We had a weekly quiz. The questions came right from the homework and the majority of test questions did too. Our final was the exact same as our study guide. He also gave bonus points occasionally for coming to class. I made an A and math is not my thing...
Teaches in a very fast pace and doesn't explain the material very well. Homework is optional and is the only use of the textbook. I made a B and never did any homework. Majority of quiz and test material is on homework, so I recommend doing the homework just to know what to expect.
Brachey is awesome. He's a funny guy and likes to have fun while still being serious while teaching. If you ever need anything explained, he'll go over it before he begins teaching new material.
Brachey is a pretty great teacher. I really liked him as a pre-cal professor. He cracks corny jokes that lighten the atmosphere and makes it a bit more fun. He starts the class by seeing if anyone has any questions so feel free to ask away. His quizzes and exams are easy to prepare for because he explains the layout of them. He's a great professor.
He is a very good professor. He is very willing to help and every lecture he goes over an problems anyone has even if it takes all class. He gives a lot of partial credit so show as much work as possible. If you pay attention in class you should do fairly well.
Prof. Brachey is a great teacher. The majority of your grade is dependent on three tests. We had weekly quizzes and homework is optional however most of the questions were from the homework. He posts all of his lectures online which was very helpful at times. He gives hard tests and moderately hard quizzes. Not an easy A.
Mr Brachey is a excellent teacher! He sets lots of homework, but his tests are quite easy if you do the homework. He will answer any question from the text book, and explain them well. If you take his class seriously and do the homework, YOU WILL get an A. He is also very helpful outside of class as well. Take him as a proffessor!!!!!!!
3rd time around taking this course, he's a joker and keeps everyone interested. Granted I took him summer semester, but he was clear in definitions and showed examples to everything, always asking for questions. I recommend to anyone getting back into math after a break from school. Best math teacher i've ever had! (Est. Grade B+)
He's a good teacher. He keeps you entertained. His tests and quizzes aren't terribly easy but if you do the homework and study you should be ok. Recommended.
Great professor! He assigns homework for practice, then the next day he will answer any questions. His lectures are short and concise. Tests maybe hard to a few, but do the homework and you will get an 'A'.
By far the best math teacher I have ever had. He is very good at explaining everything in detail and keeps the class interesting at the same time. Real nice guy. I recommend taking him!
He is a great teacher! He is super funny and very helpful. Outstanding teacher!
Super nice, doesn't give much homework but the book is required for the homework he does give. Pretty easy class as long as you do your homework.
I love math, and when I took his Math 1730 class I have never felt so stupid in my life. I have never failed a math class before, but i found myself fighting to even make near a passing grade. The grading scale they use is AWFUL. Don't take him if you can keep from it!
hes great teacher
he is really helpfull teacher and made you love math, just keep up with him and do your best in quizzes and the final is not hard test. I took three math class in TTU and each one of them they make you suffer ring from the class, but when I took this class with Troy, he make you love math not fear it.
Awesome instructor! Take this guy! He is very good at what he does and he makes the class fun! I had him for Pre-Calculus 1 and Tommy Elliot for Pre-Calculus 2. Both great teachers. It was a summer course and was split up. They are combining both classes into one (Math 1730).
I can't wait to have Brachey for the rest of my math career (through diff E) because he is amazingly helpful and understanding. He is always available to help and has amazing clarity to his teaching. Take him if you can!
Professor Brachey is a former engineer and understands the material he teaches and its importance exceptionally well. He is excellent at explaining things in a way that you understand, is very enthusiastic about students who want to learn, and is absolutely one of the best professors I have had at this school. Outstanding teacher!!
Funny, kinda mean. He knows his math. Lots of jokes
I am simply auditing because I had a dual credit from high school but my teacher was awful and I knew I needed to take it again in order to understand it. He really has helped! Awesome teacher, knows what he is doing. Definitely suggest taking him.
LOVE Troy. His exams are hard (but taken from end-of-chap review so you can study well) and he loves making you laugh with bad jokes. He's a very personable and lovable guy. His saving grace is that even if you're not taking him that semester, his door is ALWAYS open to you for help. Wish I could take him for every upper-level math class.
Brachey is a clever, brilliant math professor who knows how to teach calculus. He would tell us his great stories and work out example problems for new theorems and processes. He's the best math teacher I've ever had. He's just the right amount of strict, and he's not afraid to make snarky remarks.
Easy professor, really easy to understand. Makes class fun by making amusing jokes. I recommend you take this professor
He's not a bad teacher, but he likes to tell a lot of jokes and stray off topic. Also, the way he does notes is confusing. He just writes straight down the page without giving section numbers, which can lead to some difficulty when cross-referencing them with your book.
Difficult to follow lectures. ALWAYS strays from topics and quizzes you on Wednesday anyway. Don't take unless you know the material already!
Troy is a good teacher and a good man. But gets so lost in his jokes. Pretty hard to follow, if you're somewhat decent with the material in the class you will do fine. If you have no clue, do not take him. He goes very quickly and quizzes on Wednesday.
Brachey is a great teacher and a great guy. He will pick on you (playfully) but he will also get down to business and teach you math very well. He is extremely smart and motivated as well as super nerdy!
I had this class taught by Troy and Tommy Elliot a couple years back and I still think back on how entertaining they made learning math. If you go to class, laughed with the jokes, and did the homework with a little extra practice then the tests were easy. Highly recommend taking a class with Troy.
Mr. Brachey was a great teacher. I did poorly through the beginning of the class, but he was fair in his grading. I talked to him later and he agreed that if I got a B on the final, then he'd give me a B in the class. He's not an easy teacher, but he's a hilarious and friendly guy. he seems to genuinely care about students.
Great teacher. Hilarious. Tests are tough but doable.
If you can not take a joke, do not take. He is funny and will keep it interesting. Test are hard. You will have to do homework. It is optional, but do it. Group study will definitely help.
I was poor in Math, but when I got Call II with him, he opened a new way in my life, he is very good and smart. He never uses calculator. I was looking forward to take any course with him again. If you work on Homeworks, you will get a good grade. I got A.
Nice guy, and very funny in class. Must do the homework, even though its optional. Test are ridiculous.
Troy Brachey is a "like-able" guy. He has a good sense of humor which leads to his high ratings. However, his tests (4 total+final) are the only thing that determines your grade and they are insanely HARD! He takes pride in having the highest failure rate in the math dept. Only 41% of my Cal 2 class passed with a "C".
Mr. Brachey has a likeable personality. His quizzes are easy if you study for them, and his tests are okay if you study for them too. You need really strong pre-cal knowledge with him and he puts a lot of review on the first quiz and test which most fail. Overall I like him. Hoping for a B
Brachey is HALARIOUS! He is probably my favorite professor I have had at Tennessee Tech. Don't let the first test fool you (you will probably fail it). However there is a ray of hope! Every other quiz and test you take he gives bonus credit on it. I ended up with a 103 as my final grade in technical calculus. Plus he is very funny. TAKE HIS CLASS!
I know very few students who work harder than me, and even I could not figure out how to take Brachey's tests. They are literally RIDICULOUS. I did all the homework in the book, chapter reviews, everything and nothing ever prepared me for his tests. He's funny, but funny doesn't fix my GPA.
After having him for calc II in a traditional setting, and not doing so well, I retook the class online. DO THIS. There are so many more ways to earn points, plus you get to use everything on tests and quizzes. You do have to teach your self alot, but online is the way to go. I went from a D to a B. Plus I am a horrible test taker, so this helped
Mr Brachey is one the coolest and funniest professors you'll ever find! He is an amazing teacher that is always willing to help. There are 3 tests, quizzes (but all for bonus points, which really helps), and the final. Math 1920 is not easy, so you have to work to get an A and he will help you achieve it. I would highly recommend taking him
Had a fantastic time in class. Lots of laughs. Failed Calculus 2 though....
Prof. Brachey was my least favorite professor of the semester. He expected us to have seven lessons of homework done per week (which by the end of the semester only accounted for 10% of our grade)! He only taught the basic processes and nothing harder which always appeared on the homework. Not the book nor the learn section on the program helped.
The best professor at Tech to take for Math courses! Highly recommended
The best professor I have ever had , If I would to choose the professor for all my class , I will be choose him.
If i could take him for every math class i have to take I definitely would! He is funny and explains things where they are easy to understand. He gives pop-quizzes that are just for extra credit points. Super fun super easy class.
One of the more entertaining professors i have had since i have been at tech, his tests are pretty challenging, He likes to throw curve balls on tests. 4 tests no homework grades(better do the hw though) and all quizzes are extra credit. i would rather have him than some of the other professors in the math dept.
He's really funny, and the class is easy. Didn't learn much Matrix Algebra, but at least the class was pretty easy. The main issue I had with this class was that he didn't explain the vocabulary at the start of the class very well, making the rest of the class hard to learn. He gives quizzes that are completely extra credit, which is useful.
Hes a great professor and very personable. I left his class knowing how to do calc 2. Hes very witty and makes class fun. Engage him in class and through ideas and ask questions. He'll explore it and show why it does or doesnt work.
Brachey is a pretty good professor. He explains the concepts fairly well and uploads all of the notes he wrote on the board for the day online. He gives a total of four tests (including the final), homework for you to on your own (no credit), and pop quizzes which are entirely extra credit. He's also a joy to talk to.
Mr. Brachey is a solid choice! His teaching is example heavy, which I appreciate. I had him for Matrix and Diff E, and did well in both. Most lectures are uploaded online, but I suggest going to class. He gladly answers all questions, offers bonus quizzes, and has review guides for the tests.
I'm an engineering student here so I've had my fair share of the Math department. Troy was in the top 2 professors I've taken here. He really lifted the atmosphere and was very easy to get help from. He had a game plan everyday. If you take notes, pay attention, and try you'll be fine. I wish I would have taken him before Calc 3, I loved it.
Great professor! His tests are not easy but also not impossible, if you study enough you will do amazing. Homework is assigned but he never takes them in, they're for your own good. If you do all the homework with a few extra problems, you can easily make an A or B. Attendance isn't mandatory but her does give pop quizzes for extra credit
Very funny professor. Teaching was lecture and example-driven which I find very helpful with math classes. Also, ask questions over problems in class - was always eager to answer. Easy class if you just showed up, took notes, and did good portions of the recommended but not required homework. Tests and occasional pop quiz were over taught content.
Homework is not mandatory but is necessary to pass the class. 80% of the test question is either homework problems or examples from the textbook. Funny guy, but says bold and outlandish things. Have thick skin. He will skip a lot of arithmetic in class examples. But if you do not know how he got his answers, do not be afraid to ask.
Great teacher, overall. There are 4 tests (including the final) and 15-30 minutes of homework every night. The lectures are funny but informative. For the tests, he requires a little complex thinking because the material is so straight forward.
Professor Brachey is the ABSOLUTE BEST! Calc2 is difficult, but he makes it so enjoyable. There are 3 tests and a final. He does give pop quizzes, but they are all for extra credit. There is also homework most nights, but he always answers questions on it. He is also very funny and inspirational. If I have the chance to take him again I will.
You are graded on 5 tests. His lectures are very long. The curriculum is difficult, but as long as you understand the chapter review you will do fine on the tests. He gets angry easily, but attendance is not required.
Brachey is funny but as a teacher he is not great. When we were sent home bc of Corona he told us to YouTube everything & teach ourselves. This class is very theoretical & the online videos are not very helpful. Pre-virus he was OK but spent more time telling jokes than teaching. Will not respond to any emails whatsoever. 3 exams+Final each 25%
This was my second class with Brachey. I would take his math classes every semester if I could. He really cares about your success as a student in his class and beyond. Take Brachey if you can!
Has about the laziest teaching style that I have ever experienced. Class was a hybrid and all of the homework is computer generated. His in person lectures were always spent talking about unrelated things, and video "lectures" provided little substance, as most of them were only 10 minutes long. Wouldn't recommend unless you like teaching yourself
Mr. Brachey is an absolutely awesome professor who is very funny and caring. His lectures are about 75% on topic, but he is very understanding to questions and will go over pretty much anything without question. He does expect personal responsibility, as there was no homework in his cal 2 class... its all individual accountability so you need that.
Good teacher. Gives lots of partial credit for calc 2 tests
Professor Brachey is a good professor who cares about his students and will work with you if you need help. One major issue I had in his Calc 2 class was his skipping of many steps when doing example problems. This became hard to follow quite often and led to a lot of confusion. He is a very easy grader and he gives a lot of partial credit.
Would rarley ever teach, and the few times he would "teach" it was just more of him going over a problem with very little explanation. He's clearly very intelligent, but he assumes his student come into class with prior knowledge of the topic/curriculum. Which makes his teaching style more like he is reviewing it for us instead of teaching it.
This teacher is awesome. He is hard when it comes to homework but that's because the courses he teaches aren't easy. I took Brachey for multiple classes and he is really easygoing when it comes to grading. I was struggling in a class and he took tons of time to explain and catch me up to the material. He jokes a lot, making class fun.
One of the worst professors i have ever had. He quit teaching during the middle of the semester, and only reviewed homework for the rest of the year. Our class had a 10 percent passing rate and he offered no curve or other help. When i went for help 2/3 into the semester, he basically told me to do good on the final to pass.
My class was large, and he did not have a class format that was suitible for the size. Lacked structure, schedule and consistency. The entire class format changed twice throughout the semester. Brachey may be fine at teaching a smaller group, but stay away from his 100+ student class.
He is simply the best. Calculus 2 was a very hard class at first, yet it became my favorite. This man was able to inspire me so much that I got a trig tattoo on my right leg. Do your homework, ask questions, and try to have fun. If you're reading this big man, much love. BB
One of the best math professors at TTU. Very nice guy and made Calc 2 an enjoyable experience
Somebody PLEASE give this man a beer!
Amazing Professor! He has a "laid-back" form of teaching with a funny attitude that will make class fun, and his quizzes (if he gives out any) are extra credit. Homework is optional but recommended for studying (practice makes perfect). Study guides are almost similar to exams. Would recommend him for Differential Equations, or ANY math class!
You hear about Micheal Jordan in the NBA, or Tom Brady in the NFL. But you never hear about Troy Brachey in the TTU Math Department, but you 100% should. His class is extremely fair, and if you put in ANY kind of effort, you will pass with more than likely a high grade. Would definitely recommend and will take again.
Once laughed in his office about students failing calculus. For in class, gave the HARDEST examples of proofs you'd never see so you'd learn the actual questions via the "optional" homework on your own for HOURS. Many homework questions on test yet never taught. Funny but the entire class is self made in your own time using the textbook online.
Brachey is one of the most chill professors ever. His explanations are very clear, but he can get off topic VERY easily. Willing to help before class in his office. The only grades are exams, which can make things stressful, but they are super similar to homework and study guides. Extremely flexible when it comes to choosing the dates for tests
He's a great professor, and despite this being his first time teaching this class, he does an amazing job with it. He clearly cares about his students, and he'll even joke along with them. I look forward to taking 1845 with him in the future!
Mr. Brachey has to be the best math professor I've had at TTU. He's personable, funny, and truly enjoys his students. He will answer any questions and is accessible outside of class. The material isn't difficult and he teaches it well. You're the goat TB
I don't see what the hype is all about. I thought Brachey's teaching style was underwhelming and i often had to teach myself the material. If you have questions tho he answers them pretty well. Some lectures were just story time and it seemed like he didn't really like his job. He had most students previously maybe so he was just comfortable.
His Calc 2 summer course is literal agony. There's 3 to 4 assignments per week, and 1 of those being a written assignment every week in an online course. There's also the matter that he doesn't hold back for the midterm or final. You get a week for both and still have to do all the other work alongside the final. Take a different calc professor.
Have him for Diff Eq. Hard class, but he puts in the work to make sure you're successful. Super funny guy, and he is very understanding of your workload. Homework was optional, but this made the grade only rely on exams. Pop quizzes here and there for extra credit. If you have him as an option for a math course then take Brachey.
This man is an absolute legend. I will absolutely be taking him again.
The epitome of ok. He teaches you what you need to know to solve the problems but thats about it. Funny guy tho. 3.5/5
Brachey teaches the material really well. He gives a couple quizzes for extra credit, but the only real assignments you have are your test. They are not easy, but as long as you study for them, he doesn't put anything that isn't on the study guide on the test. Great guy and really funny.
3 exams and a final all weighted 25% is your grade. Gives pop quizzes for extra credit. Lectures are a mix of random stuff, talking with the class, and teaching. Gives optional HW. Gives study guides that are ~40 questions and covers all exam problems. Teaches more application than theory. You know how to solve it, but not why you do what you do.
