I thought the class was going to be so hard during the first week, but then as we got going everything made sense. It was easier then any A&P class I took. He is worth the drive if he is not located on your campus.

I took this class during COVID so it was online which is atypical. That being said, Dr. Jesse still turned out to be one of the best professors I've ever had. His lectures were clear, he spoke slowly and broke concepts down into understandable pieces. The work and tests were all fair in content and grading. I have a solid understanding of micro now

I differ with most here. I took prof Jesse during Pandemic. Very first email he was dark writing ''students consider dropping the class''. He is technologically challenged, uploads dense power points and other reading material 1 day before quiz, No extra credit!, as others commented. Changed syllabus 3 times. He questions out of course material!

This is my second time taking this class. First time was pre-pandemic. On my way to an A this time around! It is a difficult class but this professor makes it easy to understand and best of all, makes you want to learn more! Micro is so cool and you will learn a lot from Troy!

Troy Jesse is the best professor I’ve ever had! He’s very smart, an expert in microbiology, breaks down concepts into easily digestible pieces. I didn’t read the free online text he provides at all, just took detailed notes on his lectures, did the homework assignments and watched the suggested videos. Wish I could take him for all bio!

Weekly quizzes, lab report, 3 discussion post. No need to bother with required readings. As long as you listen to lectures and study, you will do fine on the quizzes and exams. Lab reports are easy that there isn't a reason to cheat. He may be tedious and nit-picky, but he does try to answer emails and questions.

He keeps his lectures interesting and entertaining, which is good when you have several to listen to. He definitely knows his stuff and made micro less scary for me ( I was terrified to take this class). A quiz every unit, 2 exams and one final. The final is not cumulative, thankfully! Micro is tough but fascinating. Good instructor!

This was definitely my favorite nursing prerequisite out of all of them! Professor Jesse kept it interesting and entertaining. Seriously, his lectures are awesome and I loved his anecdotes! This is a tough subject but it really is fascinating and it helped to have such a great instructor. Even better that there is no cumulative final!

I would not take this teacher. He is an extremely tough grader and very nit-picky. No partial credit. No extra credit. His test questions are worded horribly. No assignment or test scores are dropped. The only positive I can give is he likes the subject matter.

this class wasn't too hard in my book; i found it to be one of the easiest pre-req classes that i took for the nursing program! prof. jesse is a no-nonsense professor, so his criteria is straight to the point. if you get something wrong, you don't get partial credit. make sure to fully read the required readings & instructions and you'll be okay!

No extra credit whatsoever so don't bother emailing to ask what you can do to boost your grade. Assumes everyone is cheating, it's so bizarre! The test questions are worded in a confusing way. I never felt I could ask questions because his responses were so condescending. I felt bad for the students brave enough to ask him anything.

Brilliant professor. Dr Jesse is very knowledgeable about microbiology. Every question I asked him was answered with clarity and expanded on. Class time was productive and engaging. Quizzes and exams are straightforward and are based on what he teaches. If you put in the effort, study and ask questions when you need help, you'll do great.

This class will be difficult for you if you are taking multiple classes at a time. I got about 86% overall. He did teach me so much but the class was made more difficult than it should have been. He added lots of additional pressure because he only allowed one submission per assignment and formatting/putting words in italics mattered. He is smart.

Troy is a great lecture professor. He is incredibly knowledgeable in what he lectures. However, overall the class is poor. You get a 2 hour lecture twice a week, quiz once a week on what has just been lectured. No support with info retention. And wow, is it a lot of information. There has to be a better way to teach a class like this.

If you're already knowledgeable on the topic or can retain information at the drop of a dime this class is for you! Otherwise, good luck. Troy is only there to relay information in the most scientific language imaginable, don't expect much more. Be prepared to be made to feel inadequate in everyway, not like futures depend on passing this class.

Troy is one of the best professors I've had at PCC. He's funny and very knowledgable, plus passionate about what he teaches. I enjoyed his lectures because he went into depth about the topic and did not just ramble and read whatever was on the slides. He is, however, a little picky with grading. Besides that, he made micro enjoyable and fun.

He's a little abrasive, but I found him funny. VERY tough grader, but he gives more slack on tests and big assignments. Compared to what I've heard about other micro classes, he's the way to go. The subject is HARD but he will help you understand it if you ask questions. Firm on lab safety protocol, entertaining lectures.

When I took his lab class it was along with a different lecture professor and turned out to be very frustrating. They were constantly disagreeing and if you put an answer the lecture professor taught you on a exam from Troy he would count it wrong. The whole class was struggling trying to remember who wanted what answers. He's probably fine alone.

Class does not prepare you for 200 level courses. The content is completely different between labs and lecture and is tested separately meaning you are essentially taking two different classes. Easily the worst wording on tests I have ever seen.Power point based lectures with an unrealistic amount of information to absorb. Waste of time and money

Fast paced but thorough lecture style. Multiple quizzes every week between lab and lecture so you gotta put in the work, but you get what you give. Been years since I studied science but I retained so much bc of the quizzes. Some inconsistencies in the lectures vs. the quizzes, especially with wording and diagrams (kinda misleading). Good jokes!

Troy really cares about the subject matter, wants you to take what your learn seriously. My only gripe is that there is not much support in info retention. It is a lot of information to take in and there isn't much guidance or in class practice to get it to stick. Lots of HW and weekly quizzes. I enjoyed this class, It is a challenge.
