TJ is a pretty nice guy, but I don't think large class sizes are really his thing! He tries to make the classes fun, and his slides really do help with the lectures! Sometimes mumbles, but hes so nice, you just have to love him!

He gives you the answers for tests and takes half the m/c questions right out of the study guide....anyone who says he's hard is a moron. Plus he goes slow in lectures and has organized powerpoint slides.

This guy couldn't have made the class any clearer and interesting. He took difficult material and made it clear. Assignments are pretty much done in the class work and mid-term and finals are incredibly fair.If you have to take any ECON classes you are crazy not to take them with this guy.

great prof! entertaining, laid-back and will go out of his way to help you. You won't do too well if you just show up to the lecture though, his slides don't provide all the info (read the textbook). Assignments are fair-slightly challening but prepare you well for the tests. Would def. consider taking one of his classes again.

Excellent professor! Had him last year for ECON 1001/1002. I really liked his teaching style. He left blanks on his lecture slides that he posted on WebCT that way you had to go to class AND pay attention! Worked really well for me. Wish I could take another class from him. Also, ladies, he's kinda cute and young! ;)

I had him for the winter term only, it's very obvious that he wants his students to succeed. Leaves blanks on notes as was mentioned, but I feel like you get so caught up with trying to get the next word that you don't really pay attention to what he's saying, it definitely helps to have read the chapter before the class

Great professor he really wants his students to do well. If you are having a problem hes easy to get a hold of and will explain it to you and make sure you understand. His notes are very helpful, review them.

He's a prof who teaches a boring subject that's not optional for many, if not most, of the students who take it. That being said, he does the best that he can to try to keep things interesting for the students who need to attend the lectures to keep up. He also obviously cares about how his students do and is enormously helpful if approached.

He is a great prof. You get what you pay for, his weekly assignments are really helpful and will help you understand the concepts clearly. He also posts all sorts of helpful powerpoints online just in case. I really enjoyed this class.

I have experience with almost every professor in the econ dept at Carleton. He is honestly one of the nicest and most caring professors ever. He will bend over backwards to help students and puts in insane amounts of energy to make sure they succeed. A real great professor and awesome human being.

Honestly, Troy was one of the best professors I've had so far at Carleton. He wants his students to succeed at the highest level. You really don't have to make notes in his class since he provides them for you. But, here is the catch. You must attend class to get the notes since the notes are fill in the blank. Go to his classes and you'll be fine.

Incredibly supportive teacher. Always available for office hours (even on weekends if before an exam), and makes time for every student despite large class sizes. Puts so much time into his class, and it is evident that he really cares about the students that come to him for help. I hate economics but had an incredibly positive experience with him.

I have had Troy Joseph for Econ 10003405. In both classes he gives amazing fill in the blank notes that makes note taking so much easier. Tests and assignments are fair and not overwhelming. He is always friendly and genuinely cares about how you are doing in the course. His classes can sometime be boring, but that has a lot to with content.

Troy's ECON class was one of the highlights of my university career. He was a very professional prof, and tried his best to reach out to students even though many of the classes were very large. He gave online quizzes which really helped me understand the material better.

Really nice prof. Wants his students to succeed in this class. His notes are print out-fill in the blank type which makes it a lot easier. All you have to do is attend every class and study the notes. You'll get an A in this class. A lot of assignments though but they're not too bad. Really good prof overall. Would not recommend skipping classes

I have never had a professor who cares as much for his students as Prof Joseph. He really wants every student to do well and understand the material. Always available to help and extremely understanding. Really nice guy and a great prof. I hated ECON, but if you have to take it, try to get Joseph if you can.

Troy is the prof to take for ECON 3405. Clear, concise, and fair.

The best economics professor ever, very good, helpful, gives many sample exams and questions to prepare you for the midterm and final and replies to emails very quickly. Exams are normal, just study the slides and solve all the sample tests and you can pass easily. I would definitely recommend him.

His fill in the blank class notes let you listen in class and not just scramble to take noted

The only reason you wouldn't pass the class is if you don't do the work. He sets his students up for success by offering lectures, online assignments, TA's and extra credit work (for low grades only). He provides fill in the blank class notes, so that the time flies by in class (these also make great study notes). I've taken two courses with him.

Absolutely love the man, had a very dumb problem with mindtap that didn't let me submit a late assignment and he fixed my problem for me without any questions. Got him a lovely box of chocolates I hope he enjoyed :)

His course is so organized and designed to help you, there's lots of chances to bring your grade up and his midterm and exam are so much easier than the assignments. He is always on schedule for lectures and his fill in the blank notes are useful for studying and doing the assignments. AMAZING.

My class was online due to COVID. Mindtap made it so easy to learn and grasp the concepts that I had consistent grades above 80%. I made a mistake on an assignment and lost 5% due to a mis-click. When I emailed the professor, I was terrified Id be scolded for my ignorance, but my professor praised me for my high goals and fixed it! Awesome guy!

Prof. Joseph is a great instructor. His lectures cover essential information and do not sidetrack. As someone who was weak in math I found his course very accessible and easy to follow (tried this course previously with another prof and dropped it). Do the assigned readings and practice exercises, and youre guaranteed a high grade.

Amazing prof if you want to learn Econ you will as long as you watch the lectures and do the work if you dont then you wont and wont pass. As long as you understand the material you will do good. Took Micro (1001) and Macro (1002) with Prof. Joseph. His courses were EXTREMELY well-organized for online learning during the pandemic. Between his note-taking worksheets, lectures, review ppts, assignments, practice qs, exam review, and the TAs, there are AMPLE resources available to help students. Took both courses async!

I really don't like economic's but Prof. Joseph definitely made it an enjoyable class. Although the exam and midterm are hard, the assignments are easy and he is always available to answer questions outside of class. He also gives lecture notes that you fill in while watching the lectures which I loved. He's great and knows what he's talking about!

Lectures are MASSIVE, and the fill in the blanks are terrible given the format of it while being in online school. Lots of readings, didn't do any and finished with an A. Assignments are easy marks, midterm and final are decent. lectures took me 3 hours to finish even though the lecture was 70 minutes and I watched on 2.5x speed. TAKE GOOD NOTES!

Prof. Joseph tries his best to give his students the best experience. He went out of his way to record his lectures in a lecture hall with a camera crew so we could experience what a real lecture would be like. He has inspired me to try to minor in economics. Lots of textbook readings but an easy read. Also will help you over zoom ANY DAY ANYTIME!!

He is super kind and caring and wants to get to know students. The assignments are challenging though. The lecture are long as well. He is really passionate about what he teaches.

I took econ as a BID requirement. I thought I was in over my head but I ended up enjoying this class more than I thought I could. This prof will help you to understand economics the subject in real ways. The way he teaches makes reading the textbook optional and the assignments prep you for tests. Easy A if you just show up and do your work.

Have to agree with another review that initially made me chose this professor, you do not need to go to every lecture to pass, as he provides so many resources online for you. assignments are all fairly simple but are sometimes annoying when the instructions aren't 100% clear. assignments aren't worth very much compared to the exams.

Very good lectures and relatively easy/fast assignments. Midterm and exam are worth a lot but he provides a lot of practice tests that will adequately prepare you if you do them. As long as you're taking it seriously, you will get a good grade in this course.

Professor Joseph is down to earth and passionate about economics. He provided fill-in the blank notes to be completed during video lectures, which were accessible any time after being posted. Weekly online assignments were an easy way to get marks and midterm was online open book. Final was in person with multiple choice and hard long-answer Q's.

This professor reminds me of a high school teacher at times, as he gave us fill in the blank notes to print from Brightspace to use for each of his lectures. He's very passionate about his lectures and is a very good professor overall. Most of the marks are from the midterm and final exam so be prepared for them when they come.

Professor Joseph is literally a godsend. Because i didn't take ECON 1001 before 1002, it was a tad challenging, however, if i had done ECON 1001 first then ECON 1002, I would've passed with flying colours. I got a A+ in ECON 1001, and a B in ECON 1002. He is very helpful and quick to reply when you ask questions.

Intimidating course with too many diagrams but proff made me feel comfortable with the material right away. The class isn't a cakewalk, but he makes it breezy and if you listen, you'll walk out with a decent grade and knowing more than when you went in.

Took micro with him cuz it was required. So much work, but after the fact, the experience was worth it. Learned so many ideas I could apply elsewhere. I see economics everywhere now.

This professor was one of the best that I had. He had amazing online lectures and would make these silly cringe jokes! We had a lecture every week, online and a test corresponding to each chapter, 2/3 due every few weeks. His lectures were often really long, which was the only downside but if you listen and take a few notes you can get 100%.

Structure was organized. I skipped the videos unless the chapter was hard. Still did good.

Prof Troy is the GOAT. Assignments are very easy and take not much time. Midterm is online and open book worth 25%. Participation is 10%. Final exam was worth 40% and was not too bad at all. MC was straight forward, for the long answer questions just make sure you know how to graph the key concepts and you are chilling.

1/2 He's such a great professor, no one could say he's not. I just failed my first micro econ course last semester,I thought I hated micro. I see I just hate how it was taught,I realized we were given very little practical help! The way it was taught was really lazy,I won't name that professor but I will never take a course by that person again.

2/2 Professor Troy Josephs method of teaching helped me understand the material with ease,and he made learning it fun, Go Figure but I LIKE Micro Econ! I had no idea until his course, because he uses Macmillan Achieve study tools,quizzes and assignments with helpful feedback! that helped so much. He truly give us real practical help,thank you!

Prof Troy has been one of my favourite profs thus far. Although there is a decent amount of homework / take home quiz's they help you prepare of the midterm and final and overall are very worth doing, especially since it is essentially free marks.

Professor Troy's classes are well-structured, and the Macmillan Achieve study tools, quizzes, and assignments with helpful feedback really enhance the learning experience. unstuck AI is a great supplementary resource for preparing for exams.

Lectures go over everything the textbook does, and aren't filled with fluff. Once, our evening class took less than an hour, because that was all the time he needed to teach that chapter (Usually closer to an hour-thirty though). All assignments were multiple choices off the textbook website. He gave out practice materials for the exam and midterm.

Great prof has an intriguing teaching style and is passionate in his job. Accessible out of class and is professional, responds to emails and questions with detail. 100% recommend taking Troy as a prof

chill teacher who has all of the lecture notes word for word, he talks a lot and is socially awkward but hes a really nice prof. assignments were 5 percent each and 5 assignments total and can just get 100 percent on all of them. midterm was not bad, he gave us the topics that we need to know instead of making us look over all the lectuer notes

Was an amazing class, he would post pre-lecture notes day of, use those instead of the textbook. He would usually finish the 3 hour lecture in an hour but still get through everything effectively. Assignments weekly however they are very easy and are basically just mark boosters. Great intro to econ, would take again!

The best part of my schedule was his class. His lectures are incredible, his assignments are extremely easy, and he gives endless amounts of resources to help you pass his midterm and final for the course. His TA sessions are pretty useless, as they only just cover what you're going to learn that day. Honestly just attend his lectures and its free.

Its supposed to be 3 hours but he makes it 1 hour while fitting all of the information needed. A little fast but he gives notes before lectures. The assignments are very easy and straight forward.

For econ 1001, the class is 3 hours long, but the whole semester, we never went longer than 2 hours. His lecturers are mostly summarization of the topics, so read the text book ( which is actually really good and teaches well ) and you will do fine. he is a very kind person and is always offering to help students with any questions they have.

Finishes 3-hour lectures usually in 1h 15. Cares about the success of his students. Returns multiple choice on the same day tests are written. Achieve assignments/engagement are straightforward and very forgiving. Study textbook for midterm/final. Can't recommend enough, take his course.
