This class was pretty dumb...there was no point. We basically spent the entire time discussing the teacher's personal religious beliefs and how Classical philosophy affects his life (even though the class was "Mythologies of the World").
He used a more diverse collection of mythsThe stories were interesting because they reflect many cultures and not the typical classics. He does bring some personal stories to the class, but that makes him more approachable that way.
I liked Mr. Myers--pretty interesting guy. The only annoying thing is that he brags alot about how he scored A's on his written exam at Berkeley and how he got tenor at Sac City. Overall, pretty average guy--at least you won't be bored.

I like him a lot. He seems very approachable, and bery intelligent. I like teachers who keep up on their reading and can draw many examples from varying sources. I also like the myths he assigned; they weren't what I expectec, and that's a good thing. Overall very informative class.
Troy is a very funny and intelligent guy. He makes the class fun to come to and has a godd deal of knowledge about the course.
Troy rocks!! He is a really cool guy who is extremely knowledgable. All of the dicussions were highly interesting and I learned a lot. Troy just seems to be a good guy in general, which helps make the class that much better. Reading about the myths of many cultures was really nice. Troy !! Woo Hoo!!
this could have been an interesting class, but was ruined by this mans constant references to his boring personal life. This seemsd to amuse most of his twenty something students but not me. I wish I could have dropped this class but needed the credits. Also the text book he had us read Leaonard and
He's rocking funny! Troy is also rather fair and flexible with the papers.
discussion based class w/ 3 papers including the final, fair grader, disorderly, self-centered but knowledgeable and occasionaly funny with a cute butt
Troy is my freakin' hero. He's a super-nice, really funny guy, in addition to being very well-read, and good at promoting discussion. He's also sexy as hell. I don't know how I would have survived last semester if it hadn't been for his class.
Probably the most outgoing and open minded instructor I've had. Pretty humorous, but teaches well. You'll need to show that you do try on your papers. He'll even look at your draft and comment on it even before it's due. Very flexible with finals and midterms scheduling as well.
Stop re'caping the text; we already read it! Nice guy, pretty disorganized, reminds me of a the archetypal College Frat Boy.
o.k.; does make you a better writer. Seems to be really unorganized.
Awesome teacher. He is very intelligent and can be a little intimidating, but is overall a great instructor. He is very lenient because no one is perfect. He sometimes is unprepared, but mostly has things done efficiently. Nice guy and very useful resource.
Troy is passionate about his subject, which always makes for a better teacher. He keeps class discussions pretty animated, and he has a lot of interesting stuff to say--but maybe that was just the Valium talking. Overall his class is very laid-back and enjoyable, although he does try to relate everything to sex. He's kinda dreamy tho so it's OK.
Great professor, interesting to listen to, real laid back, enjoys what he does. Overall great professor!
Exceedingly intelligent and well-versed in literature. Yes, he recaps the text, but it's more for those who haven't read or managed to misinterpret the text in some way. I learned a great deal; participate to squeeze the class (and teacher) of all they're worth. You won't be sorry... Fantastic teacher.

This teacher is very understanding and kick back. He is a good teacher although I did not learn that much in his class. It was an easy B.
Very good professor had the privilige of taking a few of his classes he is very understanding and an all around nice guy. He really likes to discuss everything. Also very approachable if you have any questions at all.

Took his online class this last summer. It was great - he is a good guy. Heard weird things about him being a bit egocentric, but online there were no troubles. I recommend his classes, he really knows his stuff.
I absolutley loved this professor. The next semester we begged him to teach 302. I learned alot form his class, he was attractive and very charasmatic! Very approachable, and wanted you to learn and do well. After all thats what it's all about
He was sooooooooo easy. He let someone turn in the very first essay right before the final exam! He is a great teacher and an easy A. What more could you ask for?
Awesome teacher, very fun, laid back and helpful. He's interesting, and he knows his stuff, so if there's anything about grammar you arent sure of, ASK! Just whatever you do, do NOT get him started talking about the standford prison experiment! ;D
I online English 300 class. The class felt unorganized and incomplete, and on top of that he is not an easy grader. He's nice enough in email, that is if you can get him to respond, but he seems really grumpy in person.
Great. Still laugh at his jokes today.
Troy Myers is an excellent teacher who encourages his students to be thoughtful, and to find their own writing style, thereby incorporating themselves into their work. He's awesome*.
he is really laid back...he knows his stuff and is willing to help....he always tries to make things interesting cuz he knows english can be boring....take him u enjoy it
Took it online which made it nice for schedule, but would of loved to take this class on campus. For me this class should not be offered online. I think interaction between students would of made this class way way way better. Overall cool class and teacher.
Excellent online class and I'm sure he's really good in a face to face class too. Loved Troy's wicked sense of humor!! He is thoughtful, intelligent (very), deep, funny and a no nonesense kind of guy. One of the best English Profs at SCC!!! Only 4 essays total and 2 of those are in class exams. Allows re-write on 1st essay for higher grade.
Loved this class
THIS TEACHER IS A WASTE OF TIME, HE TALKS ABOUT EVERYTHING ELSE BUT ENGLISH. DONT TAKE HIM, UNLESS YOU ARE WASTED ALL THE TIME.... BECAUSE HE LETS YOU SLEEP IN CLASS.
Professor Myers is very patient, and lenient. I would definetly recommend taking this class. If your serious about doing your work, but searching for a cool professor that will be totally flexible, then definetly take him! He is so much better with students then Ikegami. One of the best professors at SCC!
I took the online course and got an A. Very lenient and fair in grading. Gave xtra credits that can bump ur grade up to next higher grade. Interesting topics. Mandatory online discussions. 2 research papers & 2 inclass essays. Had severe back problems but still was very helpful. TAKE HIM!!!
Best English teacher on campus. Highly recommmend. His laid back approach is refreshing and he is so helpful. Summer was easy, 2 papers and 5 discussion boards. If I had to take this during fall I would have gotten much more but still really enjoyed it
This class is online and it isn't very organized and the prompts for the essays and discussion boards are very difficult. He is one of those intellectual people. If reading Marx and Plato aren't your thing pass on this class.
Troy Myers was an inspirational instructor. He is incredibly intelligent. It was difficult not to hold him on a pedastal, as I learned so much about new and invaluable ways to structure my writing. Troy's interest in Philosophy comes through, intermingling with the areas of English/Writing we explored in his class. His class was my favorite fall 09
he is a great teacher, but always have a lot on his mind and seems tired all the time he either up of down when he is up he is a good teacher when he is down it shows lack of motivaiton dont teach at full protential comsumed with a lot of problems
This class was kinda hard. Mr. Myers grades tough and makes it clear that he does so. I took the class online and I spent more time online doing work than for other other class room setting classes. He's a great guy overall
Super hard professor. Told us the first day that he failed half of his students the previous semster and he's not telling a lie. My first rough draft received a F and a note saying "you're not on the level, consider dropping this class." I got an "A" in ENGWR300 and didn't think my essay was that bad but oh well. Drop the class right away.
easy teacher, work out of the book. cracks jokes. laid back teacher. when i was in his class we talked a lot about drinking...lol cool guy. good teaching but also you must teach yourself too.
very laid back . hes funny. few post mention he is a bad teacher. he told a story of his engwr302 class. and ppl didnt even know the simple things that are covered in engwr300 which gets him mad. alot of engwr teachers grade essay on how they feel on subject. he doesnt. hes bad with names but overall B
papers are strictly analytically and should sound college level also wants MLA. he's not interested in summarization. very few papers are written maybe 1-4 for the whole semester. easy going teacher, easy class, attendance not always taken. class is generally boring (my interest level is practically 0). This class was taken with Knorr and Myers.
Professor Myers is one swell guy. He's very laid-back, which creates a more relaxed, informal vibe during discussions - while still keeping the integrity of discussion intact. Reading the material is imperative. There is quite a bit, but it's interesting and valuable. There is 1 research paper, 1 oral presentation, and 1 final take-home paper.
in engwr50 he ddn't know what he was doing he was always confused at what he was going to teach us. also we barly used the $80 book and didn't use the other one at all. a waste of time if you aren't at 50 leval or near it. he shouldn't be teaching in a engwr50 class at all and staying in 300
Great teacher! Kept the material interesting. Gave great feedback and was always available to critique progress on papers.
Yes he can seem laid back and easy going but the guy is really intelligent. He knows his stuff and is great at explaining it. We had to skip a lot of good texts because of time sake but that's what happens in a survey course. Overall Troy did an outstanding job teaching the 2nd half of brit lit. He exposed us to great works!
I took online class. Very easy, just do the discussion boards, they're not difficult and the Cooper/Patton exercises. If you don't understand one of them, post in the questions board and he'll help you out. Responds very quickly. He will read your rough draft for you, so take advantage. 2 research essays, midterm in class, final online.
Great Professor! I learned from this writing class, and recommend it !!!
I took ENGWR482 (my 3rd class with Prof. Myers) and found it both illuminating and enriching. Myers has a passionate, yet reserved, teaching style that makes his classes consistently engaging. He loves what he does and it shows. There are 4 papers total, 2 of them being research. You will need your books. Best teacher at SCC, hands down. Take him.
Myers is amazing! He is very intelligent, and his class is so very interesting. English isn't the most fun subject, but Myers makes it such a pleasure to go to class everyday! Love this guy! If you can get him, do it! He's also hilarious!
Great Professor. 4 Essays total, 1 being an in-class midterm and 1 being the final. Must attend Mandatory Discussion boards every week. Would Recommend to anyone.
You have two papers. You can basically write whatever you want as long as you run it by him. He says he'll take attendance but he literally never does. Generally, a fun discussion class but if you dont want to talk, that's fine too. He makes the reading more understandable and he's kind of a funny guy too. Don't take if you don't like to read tho.
Great teacher. Makes you use your brain.
We read more than we write. And when we did learn about writing, they were just the basics; DC, IC, and comma rules. We only have three essays, one oral presentation, and, maybe, an in-class essay. He is not very punctual; he has forgotten when our essays were due. He grades rough and bases it off your first score.
He seemed cool at first until he was getting a divorce. He is so slow to reply to help that there's no point in asking. He never replied to my discussions, just always stating his disagreements from my essays onto the d2l homepage. It's MY opinions. Don't ask for assignments to be done in YOUR opinions! Don't take this professor. Waste of time.
Myers is a very intelligent guy and also very funny! He really digs deep into texts and makes you use your brain. If you do what he asks and write at a college level you will do fine. The stories and poems we read were really good as well!
Lets his personal life get too involved with his teaching. Strays off topic sometimes. Very passionate about what he's teaching, has clear cut ideas, knows his stuff. Not too hard of a grader. Great discussions in class if you actually participate. Really sweet guy, very helpful, willing to look over papers with you.
Myers was a great professor. He does let his personal life get in the way of teaching sometimes though, but it's pretty interesting. He breaks down all the books and stories super clearly to the point where you might not even have to get the book. Just go to class and listen to what he says. Overall, great class.
Taken over summer. No tests. Grades are solely based on two research papers, nothing else. Weekly reading and online discussion as homework but does not count as grade. If you skip more than one discussion you are auto. dropped. Research papers: 5-910 pages, prompts based on discussion topics, hard-ish grader, feedback on essay, allows rewrites :)
Dropped me. Orientation was in his office and he wasn't there. I emailed him and he said I was not on his list. I guess he gets paid the same whether he let's me get an education. I DO NOT RECOMMEND MIND A TEACHER THAT CARES!!!! ABOUT YOUR EDUCATION!!!!
This "honors" class was the easiest class i've ever taken. It was a joke. We had two papers with simple prompts. He completely lacks any ability to think critically, and uses the class to preach his views on Christianity and pop culture. Most of the class was about the bible. Challenge him and his arguments are that of a middle school child.
I took prof Myers when he was president of academic senate, so this was the only class he taught. Despite being his only class, he was ridiculously unprepared. Hadn't read most of the works since he was in grad school and confused plots/explanations. You'd learn more from sparknotes- but he's excited about the stuff at least...
What a great professor! He's new to the online scene but does a fantastic job working with the students. Always fixes any mistakes made on canvas. He requires you to do a DB almost every week on classic writers pieces like Bacon and Emerson. There are a few essays but not an overload and he gave us plenty of time to finish. Take him he's awesome
Loved this class. Great feedback and lecture.
Genuinely such an incredible and sweet person. Fun class full of nerds! We had the best discussions. 10/10 Would take again.
Troy was awesome. Kept things interesting, fantastic Myths. Everyone in the class enjoyed it. Highly recommend.
Professor Myers is very caring for his students needs to succeed in this class. He takes his time to teach proper writing techniques and gives plenty of good feedback. If you do the work and take his advice you'll do great.
Professor T is a really good teacher. Took him online for ENGWR100/300. If you didn't understand the work, he would take his time to make sure you get it. His lessons were a great way for me to write. I sink at at writing but was able to follow his instruction. If you were late for your essay, he was very forgiving. Awesome professor.
I really enjoyed Professor Myers! He's really a wonderful guy who cares a lot about his students and even more about what he wants us to learn. I gained a lot of new favorite works and writers through him, and he's generally just a really cool dude. Would recommend it to anyone who wants to actually learn about literature!
One of the best professors in all of LRCCD! You must attend one 30 minute zoom per week to earn points. Due to online school, all five writing assignments were marked complete or incomplete instead of being scored/graded. You will get so many chances to revise essays that are incomplete so get all five of them complete to earn an A in the class!
I took Troy for ENGLT345 which was an awesome class. This was an okay class. It's mainly just poems, and one short story at the end, I wish there was at least one more short story assignment but whatever. Still a great professor.
He was a good professor.
Solid easy professor with good feedback. Not a lot of work at all: 2 quizzes no due date, unlimited takes, and 10-12 discussions. Discussions have word counts and require replies, but there aren't a lot of them. This means that if you miss one assignment, you lose a lot of points in your total grade. Had 1 research essay in total, 6-10 pages.
I have taken Professor Myers twice; once for ENGCW 400 (creative writing) and for ENGLT 311 (English lit) both times, my experience was great!
Prof Myers is super cool. Class is catered toward students who are returning to school rather than fresh out of high school so there was a lot of basic writing review. Helpful and lenient on deadlines just don't abuse his kindness.
He was an interesting one alright. Its obvious that Prof. Myers cares about his students and going into college, I can't recommend him enough. The reason I can't give him a perfect score however is that his teaching style is a bit difficult and he's a tough grader. Yes, he will work with you to raise your grade, but college is quite time consuming.
Professor Myers is such a great guy and professor. I have no idea why he isn't rated higher. He's super kind, is very accommodating with my mental heath issues, and always provides kind feedback on my work. He gets back to my emails promptly, he's organized, his lectures are short, and the workload isn't much. I have nothing but admiration for him.
Professor Troy is absolutely one of the best professors I have taken for a course. Usually have an assignment every other week, so be careful not to fall behind as a small pool of assignments even with one missing- your grade can be on the fence. 2 essays and 2 other writing assignments that were grade fairly. Cares about his students and growth.
prof. myers was really cool! workload wasn't too bad, one discussion a week with some open book quizzes, and one research essay! always willing to help and listen to students' needs!
Very kind English professor, you can tell he really cares about his students. A lot of reading but it is manageable. I took online but he was very interactive with videos. Two research papers, graded very easily as long as you make a good argument, and a discussion post every week. He accepts late work with no penalty. Always gives good feedback.
Every week, we read one piece from the textbook (length ranging from a set of poems to a novella), talked about the reading, and did a discussion post. We had to do two essays and a presentation. He was a super easy grader; I don't think I deserved the A I got.
