Hes very knowledgible about Political science. Seems like a smart guy. The class was interesting when we went we talked about current issues but boring when going over material. Might just be cause I hate Political science though. He offered some extra credit in form of essay. Overall good class. Not too tough. just pay attention- do fine
I really enjoyed this class. He has a great sense of humor and talks a lot about current events. Turns what could be a very boring class into an exciting one. He posts his notes and draws up his test around those notes. Come to class, pay attention, and you will do fine! Would take him again in a second! A+++ :) :) :) :)
hes ok. i hate history and i made a 39 on the midterm so i thought i was going to fail but as long as u go to class everyday he wont fail u. my first C in college but at lease he didnt give me what i thought i was going to get. he bases his grades off of a mid. final and a 5 p. report. paper was kinda boring but grading was easy on us
Very knowledgable about political science but he did not understand that he was assigned to teach American government! Has a PhD and uses fancy language that you can't understand! Unclear about what he wants and what you should study! If not into Political Science do yourself a favor and avoid his class!
This professor seems to have a lot of knowledge but in fact is just very opinionated. He mocks a lot of people in politics and other things which I think is just in bad taste. He also goes off on to other things that have nothing to do with American Government. Political Science is a requirement, but don't take this professor.
Had him this summer. Great teacher. Hard work, intense at times, but will really a good course. My head still hurts.
Run away from him. Came into class w 3.8 from hs and barely made a low B.All other courses I had A's. here's your sign.... Do not take. Avg class grade was 70's prior to final.
Not a bad class. LOTS of hand written notes. Only have 3 tests so you better do well on them. He used to have his classes write an essay but he didn't this semester. Good teacher, but you have to study to be able to comprehend. I would recommend, but not if your just going to slack off
I'm pretty sure he enjoys pulling big words out of his you-know-where just so his students will not understand. His notes are way too long and very difficult for the average student to comprehend. I would recommend someone to take a professor who is more interested in TEACHING. (And for the record, I got an A in the class.)
I took him my freshman year. He was hot so that's why I went to class.. and he likes Pink Floyd. Hmmm.. thinking about what else he offeres :).. but yeah, it was a confusing class.
He has very long notes to write that will nearly break your hand off. Quizzes are sometimes hard and can throw you off. If you hate political science and looking for a easy A don't take him. You've got to study your a$$ off.
I took him my freshman year. I had a HUGE crush on him and still do :) I liked his class because I'm always up to date on current news and stuff.. Class is a little difficult but study study study and look over the notes and you will do fine. If you try. you'll pass.. and he likes Pink Floyd! :)
Has long notes. Very nice and helpful. Does not take attendance. confusing quizzes but all multiple choice. Material can get confusing. Has a scattered brain.
If you know anything about politics and can actually sit still, listen and pay attention then this is a great class. I didn't take notes, never studied and made an easy A. All it takes is listening. He does like to ramble though, so be prepared. Funny and very cool.
I don't like politics at all and the fact that he does just made this class a pure nightmare for me. I only took him because the class fit into my schedule as far as time goes. I happened to get lucky on the final and did well playing the guessing game. lol I needed a 97 on the final to get a C and I made a 100 on the final...GO ME!!! right? lol
Dr. Vidal is a great professor. All you have to do is come to class and take notes and the tests come straight from them. I never even opened my book. He likes to talk about current topics from time to time, which keeps the class from being so boring. If you can copy notes and study them then there is no reason you can't make an A.
Even though I understood his jokes it was a boring class. Makes you take WAY too many notes. Rambles about stuff. My class was at the end of the day so after being up all day it was like, FML! 3 exams and an essay are the only 4 grades we had. good luck if you decide to take it.
I thought he was a pretty good professor. Very nice, easy to talk to, and I understood everything he wanted to get across. I would take him again in a heartbeat. Really nice guy. Laid back and funny.
Great teacher. He was extremely helpful. Also just a allaround enthusiastic teacher.
Dr. Vidal is a great teacher! Made me really enjoy political science! I would take any other classes he offers as well. Definitely take him.
Has way too many readings!! His quizzes on them them are impossible! And he rambles on about the Key West for most of his classes.
Great teacher. Kind of hard but really nice. Love the stories about Key West. Great videos also. Would take him again.
Dr. V is a great professor! He is very helpful and I always enjoyed his lectures. I would definitely take him again. He also has great stories tell and he's super cute. One of the best professors at CSU!
If this is not your major...DON'T TAKE HIM! Lots and Lots of readings for a 10 question quiz.. and the readings are very difficult to understand.. He's cool & Nice but I HATE THIS CLASS!
He rambles a lot, with plenty of notes, but if you read the note and the assignments and you book then you should be okay. For those who do not like to work hard DON'T TAKE HIM!
Who goes to college and expects NOT to work hard? Idiots. Dr Vidal is a great professor.
horrible teacher. talks to himself the whole time. yells at the class for interupting
I liked him. Just make sure that you do the readings, show up to class, and pay attention and you'll be fine.
Know that you can do well in a class with only 4 grades before signing up for his class. He's a nice guy, and there's lots of class discussion. But he doesn't take attendance, and with only 4 grades it's hard to get motivated to attend class.
Prof. Vidal is a great prof. All you have to do is takes notes & study them And pay attention in class & remember the things discussed on Frontline News videos Grade-?B? Spring semester 2011
Vidal is a great professor and really knows his subject. Take notes and read and you'll be fine.
I find it difficult to do lecture courses, so if that's not really your thing, then don't take this teacher. He talks, a lot, and seems to go off on tangents of his own. It made it extremely difficult for me to pay attention. As someone before me said, there's only four grades, so if you don't do well, you're kinda screwed.
100% lecture, read the book on your own time, required. also have to read other sources as well, federalists papers. uses an outline of the book on overhead but not posted online. clear speaking and easy to understand. uses scantron tests with multiple choice. has 4 teste and 2 pop quizzes. Extra credit for attendance.
I loved this class. It was easy. He goes over all the information well. His test can be difficult you just have to study. The class started off a bit difficult when he talks about the history of politics. Overall hes a good professor.
Easy class if you show up and take notes. READ what he tells you to read, including essays. Attendance is mandatory. 2 Exams 2 quizzes are the only grades, all multiple choice. Helpful guy, if you're struggling he will help you, as long as you have good attendance.
His class is not very easy but the second half of the class does get better. Go to him for help if you need it because he will try to help you out as much as possible. Although he doesn't take attendance, DO NOT miss class because it will throw you off. He gives A LOT of notes.
Be there every class. DO NOT use or play your cellphone during class. You have to read A LOT. I found that as long as I tried to read every thing that he told us to then I did ok, because his notes are on what you read. He only went over test questions 1 time. The other times he told us what readings to focus on more.
He's a good professor. Likes what he does. Helpful. He's got swagger.
Enjoyed his class. Very open and knowledgeable.
THE WORST CLASS I'VE EVER TAKEN. You only have a bout 4 grades, which are test and quizzes. He talks the entire time. you don't do any hands on activities, there are no worksheets. He punishes the whole class for one person. He hates when you have your phone out. I genuinely hate the way he teaches. Cool guy, but can't teach.
I LOVED his class! He opened my eyes (& changed my life) & made me interested in POLS (had 0 interest before). Def recommend his class. He's passionate & cares about his study & ur education. He's really cool & laid back. Def my fav prof & class. There is a lot of reading & U HAVE to study, but this IS college guys. If try u should pass. Take him.
Not difficult if you attend class and read the material. Be sure that you read the extra documents that he assigns.
Great class, interesting professor. Loved the videos he showed us. You can tell he's really smart. Read assigned materials and study and you'll be good. He tells you exactly what's going to be on the test, so there's no reason to fail or make a C. Really helpful and personable. Plus I thought he was hot with some swag lol ;) Passed with a high A.
He's a good professor. Gives 2 quizzes and 2 exams which are all multiple choice. Make sure you read the extra reading you assign, he's a very helpful teacher.
Worst professor ever. 2 quizzes and 2 tests. First quiz you have to read 50+ pages - 10 questions. After the first quiz and test, it gets easier but still boring. Extra credit worth 5 points but have to write a 5 page paper minimum. Don't copy notes from PowerPoint, he puts them on CougarView before the test. I do not recommend taking this class.
Dr. Vidal is a very laid back knowledgable professor. I had him Spring 13 for American gov and this semester for religion and politics. I really got a lot out of his classes!
He was awesome. Helpful. Extra Credit. Don't buy the book! Easy and laid back. Loved him!
I absolutely love him!
Tends to ramble, very easy going if you read the assigned readings and listen in class its an easy A.
This guy quoted both Aristotle and Socrates... in the same paragraph... in his syllabus... He likes everyone to know how much he knows, which would be fine, if his lectures didn't completely ramble off topic. There's a ton of reading and only three tests. So if you're just looking to get your gov't credit, my advice to you is: look elsewhere.
Dr. Vidal is great in a lot of ways. He tries to emphasize less on knowing everything for a test and more about walking away having learned something. Some people found it difficult to memorize the material for the test but I didn't find it that difficult. There were two tests that I forgot we had and I still ended up making an A on them.
Great professor!!! Very passionate about his work. Only give 2 test (midterm and final) and a paper due at the end of the semester, mess up one an you're in trouble. Can be serious at times, so don't be late and ALWAYS COME TO CLASS!!! Other then that he's an awesome guy and you will actually LEARN in his class but you better do all the readings.
This class was very easy, and I learned a lot. Don't stress about the quizzes and exams. He only asks broad questions to make sure you listened in class. I highly recommend him - easy A and entertaining lectures
This is a man who is very passionate about his work. Absolutely my favorite professor so far at CSU. I learned more in this class than I have in any other. He challenges you to think critically and makes you want to learn. He also offers up great books for you to read that aren't assigned reading. Very easy to talk to.
Dr. Vidal is an amazing professor. Government is not at all my favorite subject, but he really made me enjoy going to class. If you're taking him make sure to do ALL the readings because that's how you'll pass! Go to class also. He gives 2 tests that are pretty much your grade, and two 5% quizzes. Go to any reviews & do the extra credit!
Very knowledgeable about his subject matter with also a passion for it. He really relates the content to his students in manner to make you think about impacts on your own life. Two tests are the only thing that matters, either hit or miss. Also very observant,
As a person, he's a great professor. He can often get off on tangents so that can be tough to deal with. He has great lectures, I will say that. Around test time, he will at least tell you what to study because sometimes the lectures won't cover enough. He's also pretty open if you have questions to take advantage of that.
Professor Vidal was great. Only 2 quizzes and 2 exams. He gave you the opportunity to do an extra credit assignment for half a letter grade. He's willing to help and is passionate about what he does. I would take him again.
He's someone who is passionate about what he teaches. He gives long lectures and is pretty strict on electronics ("weapons of mass distraction"). We watched videos and took a lot of notes. Hardly any assignments, two quizzes, our midterm and our final were all we did. It wasn't that difficult if you go over readings. Pretty boring to say the least.
I took this class with Vidal after reading his reviews. I couldn't have made a worse decision. He doesn't cover any material that you need in class, just goes off on a tangent then sends a 20 page essay that you have to read if you want to pass the two tests he gives all year. The extra credit assignment was 5+ pages worth 3pts. Avoid at all costs
Okay yeah, if you aren't interested in the topic he might not be the professor for you. BUT he actually cares (which is rare at this school). He sticks up for the students with admin and is always interested in research for his students. He is also actually doing stuff in the field which is also rare.
His class is boring and he gives the death stare if you're late or go to the bathroom. However, he tells you EVERYTHING that is going to be on the test. You actually have to study. He is so nice and helpful if u go into his office and ask for help. If u do the extra credit he'll bump u up a letter grade. rambles a lot but just focus on powerpoint
I usually go on this site to look for law school choices rather than making statements about professors online. Great professor despite our disagreements on some subjects (I am a moderate-to-liberal student). I learned much about the conservative viewpoint. Be prepared to be patient, tolerant and open-minded.
I enjoyed this class simply because of the topic. I was able to get info, mostly, on the conservative viewpoint. I am a moderate-to-liberal student. Some of my ancestors were involved in law and political administration in colonial U.S. and Europe. Great instructor and enjoyed his lectures.
Always get the textbook for all of his classes. I am moderate-to-liberal student. I enjoyed his lectures even though I disagreed with his conclusions. As always, like most of his other courses, he sticks with the conservative viewpoint. I have no problem with the previous, I just expect more range of opinions put forward. Great professor.
Vidal is a great choice! He gives half a letter grade extra credit just for attending 1 outside lecture and you can tell that he loves what he does. Very laid back guy and very easy to approach with a problem or comment. The only grades are 2 quizzes and 2 test which you just have to pay attention for. Skip buying the book.
Vidal is a great choice. He's seriously passionate about the course. Hilarious, and gives good feedback. He's flexible with the schedule. Test and quizzes not on days stated in syllabus usually. Usually doesn't follow syllabus. Few grades. 2 tests 2 quizzes but flexible on content of each. tutorial day before each test.
Hes super into what hes teaching but he starts getting off track of the topic. All of the quizzes and tests are lecture based so studying is easy.
Honestly you take notes for weeks just to have him release them after your quiz. You dont need the textbook at all I know people who made an A and didnt even know we had one he referenced it so little. Two quizzes that are 5% of your grade, two exams that are 45%. He gives a extra credit paper one percent added to your grade per page max 5 pages.
Essays are your only grades and this class is easy once you accept: THERE IS NO MEANING TO LIFE. That is literally all it takes to get an A. You're welcome. Don't overthink his class and just write your essay like he would write it.
I have him for Gov & Global Issues. He's pretty nice - cares a lot about what he's teaching. He's a really cool guy, but the issue is he gets off on tangents so it's hard to know what to study. And there are very few grades so be careful cause it's easy to tank it. Also, don't buy the textbooks. Just do the readings he posts online.
He doesn't allow cell phones and keeps track of attendance. If you pay attention and ask questions he will appreciate your interest- as any prof would. Before quizzes and exams and he tells you EXACTLY what to study (he reads off the paper) so study that and you will do well. I made 100s on everything & people who still complained make no sense
I took this class based on reviews and it was nothing like these reviews except the no cellphones part. He would come to class late every day no matter what and my class got so behind that we only took one test out of the whole course and Im glad I passed the test or I wouldve failed the class. Beware of getting off topic a lot
Vidal is an extremely intelligent man. He loves history (obviously), and hates cell phones. In this course you have 2 quizzes and 2 exams. quizzes are 5% each and tests are 45% each. If you study for each, you WILL make an A in this class. He literally tells you what will be on the tests too. No textbook use.
He is a great professor. But for a 1000 level class I think he goes to indepth. Many students take this class because they have too not because they want too. He is a great guy and the first half of the semester is a lot of reading second half is a lot lighter and makes so much more sense. 2 quizzes and 2 test midterm and final. Overall an ok class
You only have 4 grades in his class. Two quizzes and two exams. His lectures are all over the place and often dont make sense. He also likes to talk non stop about his political views.
He's ok not the best but not the worst at the end of the semester you will know that he's from Key West Florida.
I would not recommend taking Professor Vidal. His lectures are all over the place and talks more about his political views than his actual lectures. I missed the midterm due to family reasons, and he would not work with me on that issue. There are two exams, a midterm, and a final. There is also one paper that you have to do. Take notes!
There was an overload of terribly old readings that were somewhat hard to read so DO NOT BUY THE TEXT BOOK, he doesn't use it. Lectures should actually help on quizzes and tests, his didn't. He's passionate, but a little too passionate and he ends up getting off topic for the rest of the hour. Good guy, bad professor for this particular course.
Prof. Vidal seems to be more interested in espousing his useless political views than actually teaching the class. He goes on endless and erroneous tangents instead of actually lecturing on the material pertaining to class. His tests are the bulk of the grade in the class and do not accurately assess the knowledge that is supposedly gained.
Avoid at all costs. I had two grades the whole class. The class was unstructured and the lectures mainly consisted of political rants. Learned very little and what I did came from the readings (which weren't easy, either). Also, told him I was missing class for a school sanctioned event and he marked me absent anyway.
If you are okay with risking the fact of failing a course then I suggest you take his class. He is an awful professor. His lectures are long and he rambles non stop. Please, be aware that you will be marked as absent even if you are present.
the worst experience and lowest grade I have had. Vidal had 6 modules w/ extreme amounts of reading and a short video, a quiz review and a quiz. He only did videos & reviews for the first 4 modules after that we did not have any communication at all. I taught myself by watching the videos of the professor that wrote the text.
Easy A. Online Course and all we had to do was a quiz each week
I would say that there were only 3 pop quizzes. When I had quizzes, he gave me the wrong quiz when I took it in the accommodations center. I made time to visit his office and he said I was right on the last week of class that I was correct. He really needs to think about how which quiz would be the right quiz.
There was little communication from the teacher. There were only 6 quizzes and a midterm and final. Questions weren't too hard and quizzes was multiple choice. You need to remember your quiz dates, because it will not show up in your course schedule. I misssed 1 quiz and passed all my assignments, but was still given a C(79.7) so keep that in mind.
Regret paying bro to yell about his political opinions and how he hates Trump for half a class but if that's your thing go ahead I guess. Not to mention his only grades are quizzes every week and two tests and no opportunity for any extra credit or projects. If the quizzes and tests were on his personal beliefs and opinions I would've gotten an A!
I took this professor in Summer 2024. The same thing for the same reason happened with this. If you can avoid from taking this professor, I highly recommend so. The workload isn't terrible, but it's the structure of the class that makes it not want you to take it. As for emails, it takes him a long time to answer back.
Be ready to read and write. Syllabus might not be updated. Only 6 essay quizzes and final that's all. He did up my grade to A though.
This class was one of the hardest classes I have taken. The professor barely goes over the material needed for the class, gets sidetracked very easily, and can spend all of class off topic or talking about how much he hates Trump. He takes forever to respond to emails and make sure you go to class because that will be the only way to speak to him.
