Wierd guy, huge glasses. strange. good teacher though.
Dr. Wood wasted our time. Thanks for making us buy your terrible notes, and boring us to death. Please learn to teach in addition to your research
uhhhhhhh so that was chemistry??? I think I'll become an English major now

I loved him! He was great! Good class, I LOVED HIS NOTES!!!!! If you dont STUDY of course you wont do well. He was fair and interesting. ROCK ON DR.WOOD!!!
I don't know why there are bad comments on Dr. Woods, he's a great teacher, yea the course is a little hard, but its chem come on.
Very good teacher, obviously enjoys it. He tells a lot of stories which tends to make class drag on, but his notes are very clear and tests are very straight forward and fair. You won't do well if you don't study. Buy his power point notes, it'll help.
Wood is a great teacher. He tries to make everyone understand and he does a good job. His powerpoint notes are extremely helpful. Tests are a breeze if you know the material (ie Studying). Definately recommend him.
better than a lot of other teachers
Very helpful when you go to his office hours for questions
The Powerpoint notes are great. The homework problem sets are terrible, thank goodness they don't count for much. He is not a bad teacher. I would definately reacomend him over what I have heard about the other options.
Good for most students who have not taken a chemistry class higher than the regents level in highschool. Bad for any AP Chem highschool students(but it is and easy A though) Overall he is a good professor that does teach the material.
fun little nerd, amazing notes (power point) that're always available online. exams aren't bad at all. really nice guy. always helpful with questions in office hours and available after class for quick questions. Dr wood's class was extremely helpful
All lessons are taught exactly from notes available on line :(

I thought hw was a great teacher for most of the semester, but the few times I went to him with questions he didn't seem to know anyhting I was asking. I made me feel as if he just read the powerpoint to us for the lectures ( Which I had alreadyt hought he did) without understanding it himself.
He is a very personable professor and does not hesitate to answer any questions you may have. His powerpoint visuals are very helpful and it enables you to view the lecture notes ahead of time.
I liked him alot. Lectures are boring, but he presents the material clearly. His clicker questions let you know how you are doing with the material and compared to other students. The tests werent that bad, but you still have to study.
Good guy, not the most interesting professor though he does explain everything in great detail to the point where even elementary students would understand college chemistry. Class is overall enjoyable and okay if you're willing to put in the work and effort.
Nice guy. Very enthusiastic. He tries to explain things and answers all questions that people ask. Tries to make lecture interesting but that doesnt work so well b/c the material is boring (though thats not his fault). The only complaint was that there was a very harsh grading system on tests and quizzes
He taught from notes available online; attendance was'nt mandatory. The notes were awful; disorganized thoughts jumbled together, unlike the smooth, refined textbook. Quizzes given during lecture. Homework is a must to do; 4 midterms. Final test is very tough. Try to ace the 3 exams and quizzes-its the surest way to an A
His lectures are boring! They come straight off the powerpoint. You're better off studying from the textbook. The class is not difficult. You just need to understand the concepts and their application. As for lab reports, go to room NSC 110!!! There are TAs there that can actually help you! It's a big plus if you get full points on your lab report!
TERRRRRRIBLE. I stopped going to class after the first two weeks. All he basically does is read you notes that he conveniently put together himself and sells them to you for 40 dollars in a stupid book. I got a B+ jus teaching myself... had no background in chemistry at all. Bottom line- dont get this guy!
He's not that great. Reads off the powerpoint. That's about it. Labs are boring as hell too. I stopped going to class after about 3 weeks. I did absolutely nothing after 3 weeks...I knew what I knew from high school and still passed with a C.
Very passionate
easy, explains everything well.... chem 101 is just made to fail people that dont study and simply have no ability to be a science major. if you are going to be a science major, chem 101 should be a joke
All he did in lectures was read directly off of his powerpoints which were already in a book that students had to buy. He never worked out problems on the board or overhead. When he reviewed for tests he would put a question on the overhead, give you 2 seconds to figure it out, give the answer, and move on to the next question. DO NOT TAKE HIM
This class was easy. He is really clear, and a good teacher. Getting an A in chem couldnt be easier
A previous rater wrote: "He never worked out problems on the board or overhead. When he reviewed for tests he would put a question on the overhead, give you 2 sec to figure it out, give the answer, n move on to the next question." VERY TRUE. Dun pay about $30 for his lecture notes b/c u can get it out of the text WORD FOR WORD. ARROGANT GUY.
Arrogant guy. Never works out the examples along with you... Makes you wonder if he actually knows how to work out those examples.. Sells his lecture notes at the bookstore instead of posting them on UBLearns like many other professors. His lecture notes have info that u can find from text, and there are very few examples included.
He is very clear when he teaches. His lecture comes from his powerpoint. He doesn't READ off his powerpoint like everyone says. He rewords it so you can understand it better. You should not buy his notes though. Just copy it (its not that much).
Active and helpful teacher. He sells his class notes, but posts them in class and talks about them(not just reads off them)so you can copy them.He does easy weekly online HW.His tests are difficult but there is a heavy curve.Class isn't mandatory. The textbook isn't necessary but it is recommended for reading.Interesting classes,an A is achievable.
If you get this professor, try to switch as fast as you possibly can. He doesn't teach, just puts slides on the overhead which are in the lecture notes anyway, so it's useless. He won't work you through problems, so you won't have any idea how to do anything. Gave me low faith in UB as a science school. Go to TA office hours and get a tutor.
Good teacher, explains well, some questions are hard on HW but look at book. Tests are easy.
Chemistry is chemistry. anyway you teach it at UB the curriculum's going to be intense. decent professor. going to lecture is highly recommended to stay current with material. pay attention and you can get through the class.
He's good, anyone who says he doesn't really help is stupid. These professors have hundreds of students. "Go to a TA" is what the TA's are there for.
Well, quite frankly I could barely learn. Some ideas he has are relevant and I learned well. Most of the semester I learned from my TA and by going to the Chem help center in NSC. He is not a bad professor, but his textbook is expensive, very. I think I could of benefited from a different professor.
He could be more helpful. The notes are basically what's in the textbook. If you need the problem to be solved and written out for you when it's being taught, don't take his section.
Not one of my favorite classes to attend, although i do enjoy chemistry. He doesn't do much to hold your interest which is probably why not many students showed up.The textbook was more useful in helping me understand the material, although sometimes videos were shown in class that were helpful too. Test are not that bad and quizzes are very easy.
Dr. Wood is a great professor. Go to his office hours - he is super approachable if you have questions. If you have lots of questions, go to the TA's - their office is open most of the time. The book, your notes, and Wood's notes are really all you need to do well. To do well on exams, work the problems in the book and on the homework. Over & Over.
Good teacher. if you can get him. he gives out his own notes, reviews alot before tests and will give you help if you ask.
A great professor. Explains everything with clarity and relatively easy to understand. Do not buy the textbook, instead only buy his book that contains his powerpoint lecture notes. Exams are standardized with other CHE101 classes so your main goal with this class should be to be able to understand what he teaches, which is pretty easy to do.
A very good teacher, very clear. There is a regular standard textbooks all Chem student buy and his own Lecture Notes Book (All his Slides). Although it is expensive it's convenient to understand main points in each chapter. Chemistry is hard no matter what teacher. Read the Text Book and Go to Class in order to get an A. Practice and Study Hard!
Fantastic professor, I learned a ton and I never even thought I liked Chemistry after high school. Was extremely helpful and lectures told you everything you need to know, taught comprehensively and practice tests were the most important tools given, i really enjoyed the class and would recommend it to anyone he really makes it very interesting :)
Dr. Wood is a really nice guy and very approachable with any questions you may have. The nice thing about him is that his tests seem to be pretty strait forward for the most part. Know the important concepts and you should be good. For some units he did barely any example problems in class however so you may have to teach yourself sometimes.
Pretty good professor. Highly recommend buying his notes textbook, very helpful. Practice tests and mastering chem are the best way to study. Labs seem stupid but try to get full credit on ALL of them because it will seriously help your grade. I got 70's on all my tests but by doing well on mastering chem and labs I managed to get an A.
I had Wood for Chem 101 and 102. He hardly ever does problems in class, which kinda stinks. But his slides are pretty straight forward. If you have the work ethic to learn the problems and concepts, and do the homework and attend all labs, you'll get an A. Nice guy!
Wood is an amazing teacher.. His tests are pretty straight forward. I mean obviously they're challenging it is Chemistry, but they are fair. He now does many problems in class and answers any questions you have at any time. He also dedicates a whole class ONLY for a review of the following test. Overall great professor, I definitely recommend!
EXCELLENT(& pretty funny)!!! More than fair in every aspect of lecture (ie exams, quizzes, hw...). Wants students to LEARN so exams are straightfwd & attendance is rewarded. Only negative thing I can say is that there is a HUGE disconnect between lec & lab BUT I think that's on the TA. Was dreading Chem but I enjoyed the lecture very much!!
His tests and hw assignments are entirely about problem solving but his lectures are almost completely about concepts. I find this relevantly unfair. I feel violated because I attended every single lecture but enough emphasis and time was not given to the thing that we were tested on- which is problem solving. Only 2 tests and one final= bad, unfair
Very intelligent guy. Lectures are hard to follow so definitely BUY HIS LECTURE NOTES. MasteringChem hw is quite challenging. Chem help room is VERY helpful-take advantage of it. If TA is good, quizzes should be a breeze and exams are very difficult. With use of lecture notes, textbook, chem help, mastering & time/effort,not impossible to get an A.
THIS CLASS WAS A JOKE!!!!!!! VERY EASY!!!!!!! GUYS stop complaining and study. I didn't buy the textbook or his lecture notes and pulled an A. THIS IS COLLEGE. SO, obviously teach yourself. I think he should make harder tests.HIS TESTS are like a JOKE. Seriously. Go to the lecture for TOP HAT MONOCLE.
I had him for che 101 and 102! in my opinion, his lecture is useless but his test is extremely easy. so easy to get an A in his class
I had him for BOTH 101 and 102, by far the easiest class... I think... Didn't buy his notes because I read each word of the textbook. But you know that you are not gonna read the txt, then def buy his notes.they are KINDDA helpful.. but not to me.. NOT bad tests..I love chem. BTW. i got A in both 101 and 102. Ready for organic now! LOVE CHEM.
Dr. Wood is a wonderful teacher. He has very reasonable expectations and will explain things with clarity. He is very up front about his expectations in the class. He gave us take home exams, which were both fair and though provoking. This was one of my favorite classes and teachers to date.
Troy Wood is...well...interesting to say the least. I took an Honors College seminar with him, and it was awfully boring. We were required to read from the novel, but the following class would be him telling us what happened page-by-page; hardly any discussion. There were 4 quizzes and 4 4-page papers the whole semester. Easy class, but boring.
Wood is an amazing lecturer. I had this class at 8 am and managed to stay awake all throughout. He gives A LOT of homework, but it helps to do well on exams. His students tend to do better overall than the students in other sections. If you're a biochemchem major, take him. It'll set you up with a strong analytical chemistry background.
I took dr wood for 214. His power points are all over the place and assigns a ridiculous amount of homework. Also his ta grades ridiculously so expect to lose points unless you're godly. I wouldn't she him again considering there are easier professor too bad I found out after the dropadd .Nice guy wouldn't recommend as a teacher.
Dr Wood is a nice guy but this class is made way harder than it needs to be. Textbook is useless as its written for PhD chemists. Powerpoints presented don't get into the meat of whats covered. HW is long and had to seek online help to figure it out- since examples aren't really given in class.. Tests are tricky and the TA Grader is the worst.
The homework takes a very long time to complete, and is pretty much impossible to do if you don't have a Chegg account. The questions from the test are moderately difficult, but not anything you couldn't understand how to do from having a decent understanding of the hw and going to office hours. Be patient with the hw, & pound Troy's office hrs!
Wood's tests are based right off the homework, so if you go to his office hours and have a good understanding of it, you are going to be successful in his class. There is 25 points extra credit as well. BUT I didn't like how the lectures didn't have to do with the tests. He has funny stories but felt like class was a waste most of the time.
He made this class so enjoyable. He is very friendly in office hours and provides plenty of help on the homework. His tests are fair and very closely resemble the previous years exam which he puts on UBLearns. He gives a few 'pop' quizzes in class, but he gives plenty of hint in class as to when it will be. Definitely would recommend him.
Good guy, cares about the material and presents it clearly. Fair tests and homework which is online. "pop" quizes in class, predictable if you attend lecture. Final wasn't bad.
Troy is an awesome teacher who cares about his students. If you do the HW you'll easily pass all of the quizzes and tests.
He is a very caring professor, I have not met another professor with as big of a heart.
dr wood was an all right professor. lectures were important, but not mandatory. the tests and quizzes were difficult. they required you to study both lecture and textbook. but many times during lectures, dr wood seemed very distant and not very interested with students. clear annoyance seen when asked questions by both myself and others.
Dr Wood is an amazing professor. I had the pleasure of having him my first semester at UB. He is very funny and caring when it comes to his students. He hits hard with the homework but as long as you attend lectures (which are always a blast) you should have no problem. You should consider yourself very lucky if you get the chance to have him
Great professor, wants to see all his students do well. If you show that you want to do well he will recognize it. He is the only Chem Prof I've had that has helped me understand what can be a confusing topic.
He is a good teacher but his test is terrible. It contains three-quarters of short-answer questions and one-fourth of the calculation questions. If you recite his teaching materials then you can have a good grade, but, but As a first language other than English, this course is a disaster.
Good Professor. Only issue I see is how he structures the exams. The exams consist of calculations, multiple choice, and fill in the blank. First exam contained a fill in the blank, which there was about 4-5 terms 4 points each. Second exam there was none, but on the final, there was an essay, fill in the blank, and compare/contrast. Not cool.
Terrible professor. During class he is nice and seems intelligent. After class, he's hostile, angry, obtuse, and condescending if you ask questions about lecture material. Testes were easy to me. The grad students did the most of the work and grading, except teach. Avoid him. Wood would not survive in the real world. Again avoid him!
Troy Wood is the goat of Chem 101. I previously took chem 101 in the fall of 2018 and did poorly. After taking Dr. Wood online this past winter I got an A. It wasnt even because the class was online, the way he teaches the material is great. He says it all in a way that makes a lot of sense. Highly recommend, really friendly guy as well.
Great professor. My second time taking this course and he breaks the content down so well that I could not believe it was as simple as he was making it. I would recommend him 1000 times TAKE HIM FOR CHE 1O1. Your life will be much more smoother.
This professor has all his lectures prerecorded and posts them at the start of the semester so he doesnt have to teach you. He is very arrogant and talks down to students during class time which he calls his "office hours". I cant stress this enough DONT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!! take it with someone who will actually teach you.
Worst teacher ever! He made us watch the material he recorded long time ago and the sound of the videos are broken that totally hurt our ears. Moreover, he cannot teach. You can barely understand anything from his live video as you cannot read what he wrote. Secondly, He had a bad temper if you email or find him after class. DON"T TAKE!!
This guy is the worst. Very lecture heavy, doesnt reply to emails, answers. Questions during lecture very rudely as if its not his job to teach, his lectures are old and we were offered no help or support. dont take with him especially on like of u care for ur mental health and GPA
Dr. Wood is honestly one of the best professors/teachers I've ever had. I would disagree with the other reviews stating that his lectures are not good. But I like the lectures even though sometimes it destroys your headphones with audio peaks. I've emailed him multiple times and have asked questions during office hours, overall he is a great guy :)
My worst professor by far. He doesnt seem to care about any of his students. Ive written multiple emails and asked numerous questions in class and hes never responded to either. For the final he gave no real review for it besides his lectures, which are confusing and not well thought out. This class was very much independent, dont get him!!
At first I'm not gonna lie I hated this prof and contemplated numerous times dropping the course. He grows on you though. He is very smart and knows it. Go to his office hours and his lectures and you will learn all the material. I didnt watch his pre recorded lectures and hadnt taken chem before. I went to his office hours and TA's and got an A
He is extremely knowledgeable when it comes to Chemistry. However, his class alone will not be enough to pass Chem101. I advise going to his office hours because that is where he reviews for all exams/quizzes. If given the opportunity, use Dr. Gulde's review material combined with his office hours.
I recently completed the winter class. Dr. Wood is very understanding and knowledgeable of the subject matter. He knows the material well, so don't hesitate to ask questions! As long as you practice and keep up with the work, you should be ok. The TA's are also really helpful and he is super chill. Don't fall behind on lectures!
His lecture videos aren't the greatest by any means but his live classes/office hours are really helpful. Really funny teacher and I wished he would teach Chem 102 as well. His office hours combined with Gulde's videos(and textbook if that helps) are the perfect combo for you to do good
So far my favorite professor. He is really caring and is hilarious. So passionate about chemistry makes it so interesting to learn about. I wish he taught chem 102! I will miss him!
Prof. Wood is very helpful and with a lot of patience. The study materials are well organized. His encouragement helped me go through the summer short class. We just need to work hard, do a lot of practice and ask questions. I can't wait to say "Thank You" to him.
Great professor. He is caring and wants you to succeed.
Dr. Wood is excellent. On a side note I took him for 101 my freshman year, great there too. But when I took him for Chem Lit (376) it was so fun. Weekly homework is a breeze, and the group project is easy. Online open-book final. And he gave off great energy. He is respected and he respected his students. Thank you Dr. Wood!!
