New, but extraordinary nontheless. Really fun, and interesting concepts of teaching the cirru. Conducted class at Starbucks one day. Complete fun, and extra credit is vast. Had great time, and the teacher gave a lot of help, if you want it. He is very young, but is open to new ideas.
Very liberal teacher. He will impose his beliefs on you and make it the topic of the class-Not really what a philosophy class is about. If you are interested in learning go with someone else.
Second time, I have this teacher. What can I say? He makes the material more interesting, than it really is. The best thing is he incorporates every aspect of life into class discussion, rather than just philosophy. We need more of that all around campus.
Word of caution - Sit In Front. If you don't you may miss some of the more important information needed for homework & exams; made time for his students but lacks experience and organization; spent too much time on unimportant aspects IMHO. Nice and intelligent man.
Amazing and insightful. Uses a multi-perspective approach. He is helpful, approachable, devoted, understanding, and knowledgable. Few assignments, one midterm, one final, and term paper. Lectures and readings are the key to doing well. Average class session is less than 1.5 hours. Visit his website for for information: www.trungle.org
His class was pretty unstructured. There were a few people that needed to talk endlessly and be rude to each other in debates which really killed the class. The main idea of his lesson plans were often very vauge and so was his essay questions. I would suggest taking this class for an easy grade, not if you want to learn much.
In a word, AWESOME! He is willing to engage you as much as you are willing to engage him. He makes VERY hard reading very easy to understand in lecture. Makes himself available after class for questions. This class will help you define your position on the issues, because you will learn how to defend your perspectives. Do the work, get an A!
His class was awesome, he does incorporate real life into his class, you learn a lot about yourself he goes out of his way to help his students. Pay attetion to lectures. one term paper, 2 tests overall, hes awesome! i highly recommend him :)
i took philosophy 03 last year, and it was one of the classes that i really enjoyed. he is a great teacher, and if you need help he is always there for you, he would even meet with you on the weekend to help u. take his class!! i really recommend him.
You cant help but respect a teacher who changes your view of the world.
Great class...if you do the work, then it will be an easy A...he always there to help you even on the weekend..i would recommended this class
Took this class, thought he might give me some help, since I put in my time off the weekend to met up with him at SJSU. Did extra credit, went out of my way to exceed the standards, went to class everyday and made re-do my paper twice & he gave me a D. UNFAIR. UNREASONABLE. Alteast he could have given me a C. Think twice. Not too bad over.
Professor Le is very passionate about what he teaches. He assigns a lot of reading, but it is all interesting and relevant. He raises thought provoking questions to which he encourages his students to really think for themselves about the answers.
I thought Le was a great instructor. He makes the class very interesting and enjoyable, and manages to teach you something at the same time. He is easy to get in contact with, and is always able to help out. He's probably one of the best Community College teachers I've ever had, and is actually better than most university instructors as well.
Great class, one of the best I've had.
A demanding, yet rewarding class. Highly recommended! I became more aware of the forces of society, and how it affects our happiness and spiritual growth. The course provides you a new view of the world! Prof. Le is always willing to help students to learn, and even devotes his time to assist us with projects even on weekends.
Very passionate teacher, which is the prime requisite for good instructions. Well read and informed as well, he keeps up with the current affairs and provokes your thinking. He's definitely liberal, but that shouldn't rub too many students the wrong way as he doesn't force his views down your throat. Be ready to do some actual thinking here.
A really nice instructor and I enjoyed the class
Good teacher, keeps class short. Most material is online, which keeps book costs low. readings every week, with a couple pages of response per reading. 1 midterm, 1 research paper, and a final.
He just complained about how he could not get into a UC so we had to listen to him talk about that for 3 classes.
Good philosophy teacher. Take him if u don't wanna go through a typical EWRT class.
Just pay attention in class, and do the work, and you are more than guaranteed to get at least an A. And bring an open mind :)
very passionate teacher. keeps classes interesting, lots of student participation/ discussions. very helpful. definite liberal slant to the class, and some of the topics are kind of elementary/cliched, but the grading is impartial. make an effort and you'll definitely get at least a B.
He may still be a fresh out of college teacher but very knowledgeable to the material he's teaching. He’s main objective is to help u succeed. If you show up to class and do his papers there’s no way u could get anything lower than a C. I highly recommend his class.
alot of reading. good thing is that its all online and you dont have to purchase a text book.if essays are hard for you like they are me, this class proves a challange. overall a nice teacher, reflection papers are easy and attendance not mandatory. his TA really annoyed me though. tended to run the class for him and not let him speak.
Warning: stupid & lazy people, do not take this class if u believe in easy A and minimum work. u have to write a research paper of atleast 10 pages. this is C range. da A range is around 20. i wrote 25. the finals is take home. it's another 10-15 pages of writing. bs-ing won't work, i tried. u will learn alot, but this class is not 4 every1.
Bottom line: 2-page reflection papers due weekly (10 total), 10-25 pages term paper, after term paper turned in, he gave us our final which was another 8-10 page paper that was due within a week. All text online. Personally not my kind of class but if you like debate, lectures that may go nowhere, and writing A LOT, you might just somehow enjoy it?
Compared to other phil professors, he gives out quite a lot of assignments (for summer session, at least one paper a week). Grading is fair, I think. He also gives out a few extra credit opportunities, which is always helpful. At least, you won't fall asleep in his lecture 'cause it's pretty damn funny+helpful.
Prof. Le is a really good teacher and gets his thoughts out to you really well. His assignments are weekly and you need to actually put some thought into it. As a high school student,I think this class could be eligible for an AP class. It really helps you explore philosophy and I think that this class is worth it if you take time to do the work.
He is an awesome teacher, he knows what he's talking about. He even condensed the old writing into informative outlines, which is way better than reading long passages. He gives out a lot of assignments, yet he grades well. Just do your work and show up to class, and everything will be all good.
he's a great teacher! he gives a lot of writing, but it benefits you during class discussions. he keeps the class interesting.
He gives a ridiculous amount of work and not too many A's. He is not very clear in his lectures or instructions for that matter. He is ambitious and has a desire for students to truly learn, but it comes off the wrong way.
He gives quite a bit of assignments during the 6 weeks of summer. He simplifies most of the teachings to a modern metaphor or simile to enhance the learning experience. Aside from the homework, he's a fine teacher.
He is a pretty good teacher and explains everything pretty nicely. His lectures can be interesting and funny at times, but never boring. Though I am still in high school, I find the work load to be relatively fair, but the 10-20+ term paper and following final was murder. He makes up by grading well. Just do the work and you will be fine.
Professor Le is a very passionate individual and does a fantastic job in presenting different perspectives and points of views during lecture. He is easy to understand and is very organized, and is always willing to help his students. However, the workload for his class is very demanding, and requires a lot of time and effort to complete. Overal
Excellent approach to teaching! he uses the dialect method a lot so lectures are not just waves of information to jot down. if you go to class every day and do all of the assignments (which can be lengthy/tedious like the term paper), you'll do well. lots of extra credit opportunities too. only bad thing: $30 reader that can't sell back :[
A pretty good professor overall. Very enthusiastic in his lectures, expresses his opinions blatantly; keeps the lectures entertaining. Be aware that he assigns a lot of work, especially for a summer course.
This professor delivers the material very clearly. Do not expect to get an A without paying attention, going to class, and doing the homework. Most importantly, do not attempt to cheat, he is well informed about other sources and will be able to make note of plagiarisms. -Jose SC
He is passionate during his lectures. You can tell that he is very knowledgeable in this field. The workload is heavy but doable. Extra credit is offered if you write a longer term paper. Reader required!
Pretty good teacher overall. As long as you pay attention to his lectures and take notes the class shouldn't be too much of a struggle. The homework load for this class is quite a handful. Lots of reflection papers and term paper writing.
at first it seems like a lot of material, but prof. le makes the information manageable. reflections on weekly readings ensure you know what's going on, helps you understand things that are currently happening today too; puts things in perspective. good teacher, should be easy class as long as some effort is put in.

A very comprehensive and rigorous class. There is a lot of homework assignments and quite a few major papers required. However, intense writing is very helpful in learning. Reading is important! I enjoyed this class very much. - Nam Nguyen Philosophy 2
By encouraging us to critique his writing, which ranges from clever to profound he challenges us to think of our own stance and idea to many questions concerning politics and morality. Overall it is an interesting class.
Overall it's an interesting class. There are a lot of writing assignments, but it really helps supplement the lectures. And if u want a good grade, then do well on the term paper!
Definately reccomended if you want to be challenged or like to write. Tons and tons of writing, no multiple choice. If shelling out paper after paper is your strong point then take this class, not much note taking required, at least for me. DO NOT take this class if you don't want a harder course/hate writing.
The teaching is really good. The class is not for slackers because there will be a lot of writing to be done.Overall his teaching takes a different approach and if your interested in philosophy then you should take this class.
The class requires a lot of reading, which is useful to complete the class. The professor is helpful and gives homework that helps later on in term paper and final. Overall it is a good class to take.
Mr. Le was an amazing teacher and we learned a lot from him and his aid. The class required a lot of reading but everything was gone over in class and Mr. Le was always there to lend a hand after class and on other days. He used a detailed green sheet which told you what homework to expect all year, and the final. He was glad to help with anything.
the teacher was not very clear. material was hard to understand. papers were due before he even spoke about the subjects. alot of writing. homework almost every week.let students talk randomly with little relevance about the topic.
Mr.Le was a great teacher very fair. You will learn alot and no need to purchase a text book he compiles all readings for you on his website.
no textbook, all reading is on his website, although you end up having to print it out all out. reading can be heavy and hard to comprehend, but if you go to class, he clearly explains it all. he is very helpful and fair on his grading. will help out those that put effort and ask for help. does not take role, but dont complain if you get a bad grade
A good professor. Not too many papers, gives pretty interesting lectures. There was a lot of reading assigned each week, but honestly, I never read them and did just fine in the class. All the readings were on his website, no book required. The papers were semi-demanding, but other than that the class was a breeze.
Great teacher and interesting to listen to. Teaches this class more like a PHIL 3 with lots of writing including a term paper. He looks for reasons to take off points but if you bring up a valid argument he will change it. Lots of reading out of a book he sells but can get some of the information on his website.
No one could be more impressed with this guy than he is with himself. He doesn't bother to hide his belief in his intellectual superiority. Lectures consist of reading aloud from typo-ridden PowerPoint slides. Discussions add little to understanding. His grasp of the material is sometimes slippery. Examples from life are trivial and inane.
Only 2 guys got A. Half class got D or below. RIDICULOUS!!!!!!! his class is interesting though.
It's a rather easy class if you attend and listen to the discussions, which were rather interesting. Tests were comprised of about three essay questions and there is a term paper. If you pay attention in class, it should be a breeze. Good luck!
The topics that we covered were so mind-blowing. There were so many things I thought I knew, but I really didn't. Prof. Le is extremely helpful both in class and online via email. The work that we did was sort of hard and the exams were too, but yea, the only problem w/ his class is that there isn't a textbook. Readings online = hardto understandIM
he's a life changing teacher. You will love philosophy after taking his class. Though the class is not an easy A class, you gain so much knowledge. He is very devoted to teaching. You can get an A if you attend classes and participate in it.
Teacher was great, you could tell he was passionate about the subject he was teaching. No daily homeworks, there are around three writing assignments during the quarter, not too much work. However, there is big fat term paper included, so watch out for that. Big downside is he's a hard teacher. Only one person got an A in the entire class.
"Changed me life?" No. Trust me he's a nice guy and all but you really, REALLY have to put effort to even get a B. I went to every single class, took notes, studied for the tests, turned in EVERY assignment, and still got a B in the class. At the end of the quarter not one person got an A, even after turning in an EIGHT PAGE TERM PAPER. Don't take
Sets ridiculously high/biased standards, thus managing to suck the fun out of philosophy. I am so surprised by the numerous comments about his "passion;" the guy never smiled and was inappropriately arrogant. His lectures were uninformative, dry, and hard to follow due to his bad habit of drawing out sentences. Don't take.
He seems a little strict in the beginning but he's really friendly and helpful. You can tell he really cares about his student's success. You don't always have to go to class but I would suggest you do to get a better grade. I missed one class and did well all on the exams. The exams are short essays. The writing assignments are easy.
Very boring teacher who knows so little about the subject. Just an example of an adjunct who should go back to school to get a real degree so that he knows what he is talking about.
I've had him for 2 quarters now, and I've come to learn that although you do learn a lot in his class, it comes at the price of your grade. The material itself was not terribly difficult, but he often had ambiguous standards that made seemingly easy tasks and assignments impossible. (gradewise that is)
I took his phil3 class last quarter and got an A. Le is very interesting and helpful person! Learned a lot from his class about ethical thinking! YOU NEED TO PUT A LOT OF EFFORT in his class to get a good grade! Take his class instead of ENG1B !
I wish this prof. had really taken more control over the class; one really chatty (and arrogant)guy was talking all the time. His answers/"contributions" to the lectures put the teacher totally off course, and really annoyed the rest of us. We wasted a lot of time when this happened. Teacher does seem like a nice fellow, however.
He's definitely a great philosophy teacher! You can tell he knows and loves what he's talking about. The one thing I didn't like was his lack of organization. He takes awhile to give you back tests and quizzes. Other than that, you can't help but pay attention when he teaches!
I agree he doesnt have alot of energy but the guy is pretty cool. He is super clear on assignments and due dates, and gives you a complete course outline in the first day of class. Dont get too consumed in writing the 8 page term paper or the essay questions he gives on tests, he only checks if the main points you give are right then marks it off.
Professor Le knows his stuff. I learned a lot about philosophy in his class. His quizzes are what we covered in class. If you study, you will do fine. He is willing to work with you one on one. It wasn't always the most exciting class, but I got something out of it. There is a research paper you have to write, but he grades fairly leniently.
He's a great professor!
Fairly easy class if you go to class and pay attention. There is a Quiz every weak and most questions are based on what he taught during the week. Go to class, pay attention and you should be able to get an A. Only bad thing about Professor Le, is that he is very slow on grading. It takes him 2-3 weeks to grade one quiz. Highly recommend.
He is a very sweet guy who seems to want to be helpful but his hard grading really sucks the fun out of Philosophy. I think he gets off on difficulty for students because he asks you to rate how hard the test is. I saw him docking correct answers for not meeting his standards. Also, Never responds to emails. Not worth it! Take someone else!
He is a great teacher. He makes things easy to understand. You have to go to every lecture and read all the assigned readings to get an A or even pass the class.
Very Few grades in class, and worth a lot. Total in my class was three tests, and a 10 page paper. So, if you're confused about anything be sure and ask, otherwise you won't pass. If you don't take notes, you won't pass. If you don't do the final paper(worth 40%, 10 pages), you won't pass. If you ask for help though, he'll offer guidance.
His lectures are clear and easy to understand, if you have any questions, he'll happily answer them for you. Class discussions were always interesting. There's no textbook, all exams and the final are based off of his powerpoints, so you MUST attend class and take notes. 8 page term paper determines 40% of your grade.
He is helpful. I am an international student as ESL.. but his lecture make me bright up He is very nice and kind. He always wants to talk with students to give helps. I finished 10 pages of term paper with his help. He is a good teacher.
His lectures are kinda boring but he tries to be helpful. Come to class everyday and take notes and it will be an easy A. There are quizzes every week worth 50 points, no make ups, no extra credit and you are only allowed to drop your lowest grade once
Major plus, no required textbook! Focus on the quizzes they are key to doing well in the class. Show up and take notes. Do not miss classes because taking notes is essential and attendance counts in the grade. Participation matters. If you show up and take notes you will pass.
I have zero interest in philosophy but I ended up really liking the class and how the professor presented the lectures. He always related the material to real life and left room for class discussions. He is very knowledgeable about the topic. The class has 2 quizzes, 2 tests (midterm + final), and a paper to write.
Great teacher. 100% recommend. Lectures are clear, 1 quiz a week, helps students, explains clearly. Great choice.
I find that his class was very straight forward, just read and the rest will come to you. He's honest about his grading so no surprises. His lectures capture interest as well. Anyone wishing to take his class should keep an eye out for the last paper. 10 pages with quotes and double space, it is easy to do but also easy to procrastinate. Great Prof
Professor Le makes the class interesting and helps you understand philosophy. The class consists of quizzes, midterms, and a final with a final paper that requires work but you have all till the beginning of the quarter to do. He also prepares you for his tests with study guides and games that you play with a group (jeopardy) for extra credit.
Awesome lectures, Open minded and flexible professor. No textbook use, and he prepares well you for the final. Study one hour outside of class per week and you'll probably get an A.
Professor Le is an extremely hard teacher who does not make his grading criteria clear AT ALL. Do yourself a favor and DON'T take his class.
I think that Prof Le is a good person and he works hard. His class is sometimes interesting but he gives out a lot of quizzes and you have a 6 page term paper you also have to do. Not only that but he moves fast and doesnt explain things very well. I wouldnt waste your time on this class unless this is for your major.
Easy class. Almost all questions for 8 quizzes, midterm, & final come from the lecture slides. Bring a phone/laptop to take pictures of/copy the slides & study those. 6 page essay due week 9, gladly critiqued outline + RD before submission time. Always considerate. I forgot my paper & let he me email it late w/o penalty. Really caring prof.
Great professor! Every week there were a few 5-15 min lectures, 1 discussion question, 1 short mult choice quiz. A midterm, short 2 page paper (could critique before hand), extra credit, and final. For midterm and final: review the quizzes, test, and your notes. Held review sessions quite often, and office hours every thursday
Class was fairly easy as long as you watch the lectures. Personally did not do the readings and I still did well in the class. Timed weekly quizzes (right from lecture), timed midterm and final (cumulative). Questions on final and midterm were from quizzes sometimes or slides. Not the most fun online but def take for ge
No extra credit unless he states otherwise. He extended the thesis paper and the final for us. Really caring when it comes to being correct. manageable class but i slacked off at the end of the term. every point counts! haha
