Very interested in material she teaches. Very helpfull and engaging
She was terrible...I had a massive family emergency and she wouldn't follow ryerson protocal. I almost ended up failing. I should take her to the head of psychology. Class was BORING
Good prof. Knowledgeable of the material, pretty engaging, and very clear. Didn't enjoy short answer questions. I would take another course with her.
She is passionate about the course and her teaching. She is well-prepared before each class. She is very down-to-earth and helpful. She is moderately tough on her exam questions. I enjoyed her class as I feel like I do learn stuff from her lectures. She has room to improve more on how to deal with demanding students in class.
Although I think Tsasha is a cool person, her teaching style was not for me. I felt that she catered too much to the slow learning students, spending too much time on review and recap. She should remind demanding students that she has office hours when they're having trouble grasping the material. Esp. 1st yr material.
Nice teacher. Takes a lot of time explaining concepts to the class. Maybe a little too much time, but Im not complaining. Somehow the information that she dwells on does not make the exams most of the time. Overall great teacher. THE HOTTEST TEACHER AT RYERSON HANDS DOWN!!!
Umm...decent, you can tell she likes the content but she spends way to much time answering people's problems in class. don't expect any sympathy from her, my grandad died and I got a 0% on my midterm instead of re weighting it or a make up. Lectures are very boring! avoid going at all costs, read the text!
Overall the class was good. However watch out for her short answer questions they are hard because the T.A. marks your test. The T.A. is looking for exact words eventhough you've explained the question in detail. Therefore if you did not use the exact word their looking for you will not get a decent mark on the essay question which is worth 12 mark
She is very knowledgeabl She explains lectures in a very clear and easy understanding ways. However, her test is little bit hard. Especially the short answers. They are mostly from the powerpoint and class disscusion. The key to get high mark in this class is to read the text book, because the test questions are mostly about book content.Overall,sh
she is straight foward. Get the study guide, it will be very helpful for her exams. pay attention in class. and make sure you go.
awesome prof very clear made class interesting
horrible professor. makes things confusing, has no respect for students
MUST read textbook to get a good mark. Heard from friend that study guide helps - I never used it though. Knowledgeable. Clear. Interesting lectures.
She tends to repeat things and make her lectures seem very long cuz shes going over the same stuff but she is really clear and not hard to understand. Good teacher overall, bit of a hard marker. Dont hafta go to all classes, can still get a good mark
She teaches nothing more than the basics, and uses a few examples from the text. I feel like she doesn't go in depth enough. She is clear and very helpful though. Don't get me wrong though, if you read the textbook and study her notes you'll get an A. Her lessons just lack depth.
Also, the study guide is VERY helpful, every psych class should have that offered.
amazing teacher. i love her off, and if she wasnt married id be barking up that tree ;D
If you can choose, don't choose her. No respect for students at all. Treats them like kids. All attention should be on her and nothing else. In addition she hates people coming in late. Horrible teacher!
very hard marker. no enthusim during lectures. boring at times. tests were brutal! makes you feel discouraged!!!
It's true she gets mad at ppl who are late, but it's really not that difficult to be on time! Overall great prof, fair exams, fair marker. Always answers obscure questions without belittling the student. Very approachable and an interesting class!
A really easy course! Her tests aren't too hard, but you gotta read the textbook. Stuff she teaches in class is mostly in the textbook so going to class isn't really necessary. And yes, she hates people coming in late and talking in class but it isn't hard to do those things in the first place. Not the most entertaining prof but good enough.
hated this class and this prof, i have taken other psy courses with other profs and theres a huge difference!
I dont have anything bad to say about her, her lectures were extremely boring but her tests and assignments were easy. All you have to do is read the textbook and there's no reason why you should get anything less than an A. She's pretty friendly and approachable!
Over-achiever, but an ok prof. Extremely hard!
If I have another choice, definitely not her class!
She's friendly, however her classes are pretty boring and her tests are not as easy as people claim them to be.
People here are acting stupid, if they got a bad mark they blame it on the teacher, Psychology isn't a hard course you just got to read the textbook everything is straight from it; She knows for sure what shes talking about, nice teacher, interesting class, you can get an A, if you put effort, I got a B but I messed up on Essay(My fault cause late)
Really do not agree with some of the people here. Prof. Awong is straight from the textbook, her lectures are full of explination, she gives activities and examples to help clarify topics. Always willing to take questions after the lecture. Very friendly.
Very knowledgable with the course content, however, spent too much time doing reviews and answering questions.
worst. teacher. ever.
She is so sweet and bubbly. This is my favourite Prof so far.
If you want to die of old age and boredom, this class is great for you. She does not close her mouth, it's like she's just talking to herself. Goes through slides quickly and her 3 hour lectures might as well be called nap time.
Its like being in a white room and staring at a wall for 3 hours! Good luck my friends
i want to gag when i go to class. i cant stand sitting in her class she makes mother teresa want to slit the throats of babies. If you want a good nap go for this class. if you like psychology... well then go with a different prof because like... yea im pretty sure watching paint dry is more interesting.
She needs to refine her teaching methods. Not an effective teacher. Who makes you fill in the blanks with slides? I wasn't sure whether to fill in the blanks or pay attention to the lecture. Plus, the lecture was so fast and crammed that I missed half of it.
Prof Awong posts slides and leaves pieces blank for you to fill in during lecture. Learning is not the key in this class, regurgitating is. There is no in class discussion. If you are interested in Psychology, Prof Awong is not the person to go to. She doesn't provide much feedback and usually leaves it to her TAs to deal with students.
I went to class only twice - once for half of second lecture and once for midterm. Classes are boring. Midterm was relatively easy, got A. Assignment was completely ridiculous: research, but not research paper, asses findings but not an analysis. Followed instructions to a T, and still "strayed away". Final was fine(ish), didn't study much, got B+
Fill in the blanks, what a joke. My computer died during lecture and i missed the fill in the blanks. The TAs do the marking, they have no training or people skills- incompetent all around. They gave me a B for my paper, and it was checked by mom who is psychiatrist. Reading is key to success in this class, lectures are useless,
Midterm was difficult, however, the assignment&final were really easy. Readings + notes are key. Her lecture guides were useful. I only studied them for the exam&got almost perfect! Her classes seemed very long&boring. She talked too much for examples&answering questions. I didnt like how she wasnt on schedule with her own schedule. Overall, shes ok
Professor Awong expects a lot from her students. Also she is very picky, while she grading short answer. It is impossible to succeed in her class. Good Luck
I really like this professor but I wish she'd use more simple examples when explaining abstract concepts. Also, it would be nice if there were some sort of Q and A in the classroom in the sense that she should elicit information sometimes without making the students just passive listeners.
All around a good teacher. She does provide full in the blank slides for lectures which I find completely useless but that doesn't mean you can't take your own notes from here slides! Lectures are boring but she provides adequate breaks to chunk the information. Ask for help she will be there. Don't be afraid. She is very nice and knowledgeable.
Pros Great lectures Wants you to succeed, very helpful Incredibly friendly Easy course 100% clear marking, tests and assignments. No surprises. Lots of 1 on 1 time if needed, responds to emails as well. Cons LOTS of reading Format of the 2 required essays is very strange SONA weight should be 5% Pro/Con Class participation isn't important
Very helpful teacher, always available for extra help. She explained lectures clearly and was very knowledgeable. She responded to emails quickly, I loved her class.
Professor Awong is a great prof. She is always there for her students. The exam and test material is primarily based on what she talks about in the lecture. The textbook is there to clarify and further go into concepts.
I found that this prof really focuses on those who understand and who are doing well. For those who were having a tougher time, like myself, I always felt targeted with the indirect ways in which she would "harass" me during class. Bringing up irrelevant things as part of discussion. It wasn't just once or twice, it was consistent. Egoistical ..
I find that when profs have too much of a pride in what they do and the level of academics they have achieved, they grow a sense of ego towards thinking that they are something. I wish she just cared about the people that were actually there to learn but weren't perfect like she thinks she is. That's all I'm saying. Hit or miss. Im 3+GPA student.
Dr. Awong taught this course so well and thoroughly. Really nice professor and allows for thoughtful in-class discussions to take place. Readings were online and she goes through them clearly in her lectures as they relate to the respective topics. Evaluations were fair - 1 reflection; 1 midterm; 1 assignment; 1 final (somewhat cumulative).
Her lecture notes were great
I am an A student and I've been on dean's list for the past 3 years consistently. Having said that, believe every awful comment you read about this prof. she is absolutely horrible. She doesn't know how to teach, she just reads off of the slides with an expression and she thinks that means explaining. Bad lecturer and tough grader. Not worth it.
Tough grader. Lectures are fine. The readings assigned are all over the place and not lectured in order of information in the chapters which make it confusing. Coming from another dean's list student.
Friendly but she doesn't engage her class. She talks and talks and talks without having any discussion with the class. The content was ok but because there was a lack of engagement you don't relate. We never had a class discussion she would just talk. We spent too much time watching long boring video clips. I was really disappointed.
This was by far the most boring course I ever took. I couldn't tell if it was the prof or the course content but it was brutal to come to class every week. You don't need the textbook or do any readings. Just use her lecture notes and come to class for some explanation. Then just memorize and boom, A. Not a hard course, just really boring.
Good professor overall. Considering the class was taken online i'd say she communicated well with her students about dates and what she wanted on the assignments. She also clearly explains layouts of exams and details what the structure will look like. Lectures are good and exams are pretty much exactly whats taught.
One of the hardest markers I've ever met. This is a lower liberal course, but she marks it as if we're psychology majors. I worked really hard on this course, more than my normal courses. I followed her rules and assignment structures but she just took marks off for no reason. I even emailed her for feedback about the assignment and got ignored.
Do not take her!!! Quizzes are worded unreasonably, are trivial and tricky. Our class average for the first quiz was 59% in which she had to boost the average to 68% to "make up" for the difficult questions. Huge red flag considering that 60% of the course is made up of quizzes/exams.
Very nice woman, in person. Hard to reach as in the month before final paper was due I emailed twice and didn't get a respond to either of them, until the day after it was due. Assigns multiple 30+ page papers, with very hard quizzes to go along with them. Tough grader.
Dr. Awong is a nice person, but the way she teaches makes it hard for a lot of students to do well. Her tests are unreasonably hard and she is definitely a tough grader. The outlines that she gives for her papers are really vague which makes it challenging to know what exactly she wants.
COVID edition: If you take CPSY105 or any course with this prof, please switch and take it someone else. This course is supposed to be intro but the prof clearly doesn't give an introduction to anything. She treats it as if everyone in her class is a Ph.D. holder in psychology. Midterm and exam are all scenario-based questions (MC and short answer)
I do not understand how a professor is not lenient when it comes to work load. For exams this professor just give short answers and some next level multiple choice questions that take forever. Worst professor I ever had
Awful professor. She is very strict on the assignment so watch out on how you word things. The exams are fairly easy and can pass with moderate studying.
Always ready to help, very cheerful and kind. She is not a hard professor all her exams are easy to prep if you watch and make notes of the lectures, the assignment was a bit tricky but she marks well. If you put a decent amount of work into the course it is easy to do well.
Dr. Tsasha Awong is a professor who cares. She is very responsible with emails and clear with how things are tested and the assignments. I understand why other students may not like her because the tests do take more application and she is a bit more picky with the assignment ... BUT this allowed it to be one of the few classes where I learned.
Very boring lecturer. This course is supposed to be introductory to psych but she makes it way harder and so much less interesting. Do not take this course with her
There are hard profs who will teach you a lot, there are kind profs who you can build a great relationship. Tsasha is a hard prof who will teach you nothing. I would have gotten just as much out of this course if I had just read the textbook. At least the questions in the textbook make actual sense.
Dr. Awong is a very kind-hearted person and gives off a friendly vibe in her (recorded) lectures. Actually take notes! That being said, she still requires you to be coherent in the paper. 4 midterm exams, and one essay paper. Give yourself enough time to do the reading for your essay. Mine was meticulous and took a while for me to grasp the study.
Dr. Awong is kind&does care about how students do in her class. I would say she is more particular, not so much as difficult, than most professors would be considering it is an introductory psychology course. However, the midterm, final&assignment were all very manageable & quite fair. For the assignment, make sure you follow her detailed guide!
Avoid.
Drop it right now, desrv 0 star i hate this professor, worthless , and waste of a prof position the university mistake was when they hired her. incompetent witch save your money and take it with another prof that actually cares about your academics i wish i knew this at your position, take my advice and dont take her, she screwed my mark over
There are 3 tests that are open book (it is a breeze if you use your notes), and one written assignment (I got a 93%) that I did last minute. She is quite flexible, and she even extended the written assignment deadline for no reason. She's great and the bad reviews are probably from people who did less than the bare minimum and are crying about it.
Very nice professor and she is very helpful if you need extra help. The lectures were clear and engaging. If you attended lectures you'll do fine, as the midterms and exams are primarily on things she discusses in class and are not in the lecture notes she provides.
The tests are relatively easy but the assignments are graded super strict. She expects answers like we have a PHD in Psychology. This is supposed to be an introductory course but she grades it like it is an advanced course. I would not take it again.
She is a good and knowledgable professor who provides lots of support and good feedback on assignments. The catch is that she is an EXTREMELY hard marker and her exams are pretty difficult. You seriously have to watch your wording on your assignments because she is super particular. I don't think I would take her class again.
She is a good professor but literally the hardest marker ever. She has no remorse and isn't afraid to give out literal zero's. Even if you think you've done a good job on something, she'll rip you apart with her tough marking. This was way too hard of a course for a beginner's psychology class. I will never take this professor again.
Dr Awong is a tough grader but reasonable. She provided great feedback and is transparent in her assessment. She seems to really care about the students' success and makes herself available for a consultation or material explanation outside of class hours. Dr Awong is friendly in her communication.
Absolutely terrible course designs and traditional delivery. I got nothing out of her lectures outside of the PowerPoint. Reviewing slides and textbook would have been a better use of time. Every test was either memorizing and regurgitating information or situational questions designed to confuse and trick you.
She is tough but fair and really sweet. She is a hard marker, though; you won't do well in her class unless you do the readings and participate. However, do not hesitate to ask her for feedback on your work. I did very poorly on one of the assignments, and she gave me detailed feedback and tips on improving my work.
Genuinely have never written a review for a professor before, but Dr.Awong is the worst professor of all time ever. She has the worst lectures made with less than minimum effort, but she expects PHD quality writing in the assignments she gives out. The assignments have most vague instructions and she will mark you with all her might. Save yourself.
Dr. Awong is a good professor. I genuinely do not understand why so many people don't like her. She teaches very well, her lectures are great, and she really wants everyone to learn. This class was 75% test material, but the questions were simple and straightforward. If you attend the lectures and take notes like any other class, you will do great.
Honestly, she just wants to see that you put work in and she helps.. I think she's passionate about her area of study which is why she wants to see that you are actually trying.. come onnn guys she isn't that bad
Marks too hard on the essay. Expects too much on the short answer for tests.
STAY AWAY.
I can confidently say this is one of, if not the worst professor I've had the displeasure of being in the course of. She expects her students to write as if we've taken this course before, and have prior knowledge. She grades way too hard, specifically writing assignments. Lectures are boring, no sense of engagement during lectures at all.
midterm and final are easy if u study- no surprise questions. marking of the assignment's a little picky, but thats up to the TA's. u cant rlly get away with missing lectures cause the posted slides are not exact same as in-class slides. imo found her lectures kinda boring cause she talks slow, but shes very kind and helpful. overall, average prof.
Honestly, I would avoid at all costs... Don't know who hurt this lady, but she is projecting all her anger onto us...
I definitely recommend her. The course materials are clear, well-organized, and not text-heavy. You don't need the textbook if you read her handouts. The workload is light—two exams, short online quizzes, and one assignment. She's also responsive and active on D2L.
Actually run. She won't teach you a single thing except for how to loose your will to live. Teaches nothing, expects you to be at PHD level writing annd knowledge and give less than zero direction. If you have the chance to take literally any other teacher EVER. DO IT.
Shes great, one of my fav profs ive ever had. All the due dates and guidelines are very clear and NOT outdated, which is something i can appreciate. Sure shes challenging, but its supposed to be. Appreciate how much she cares and her vast knowledge of psych and how she sets you up to learn it.
Stay away, read the reviews here. This is not an intro course, having prior psych knowledge for tests and the final paper may help you. Ambiguous questions on all the tests and a critical marker. Final paper was the same. Lectures slides are heavy and reading material is insane. I have taken many intros and this was the worst. Good luck.
She was not as bad as people made her out to be but the lectures were long and heavy. Assignments were difficult to understand and she is a tough grader.
