Very good prof. very helpful and always approachable for any extra help or questions. must study for exams and she gives four exams allowing you to drop one. picks out very good textbooks where there are extra exams for practice.
unfair

She is one of the best professors I ever had. She is very helpful and very clear to what she says. She is willing to explain everything you do not understand.
The class is a bit interesting. There is a lot of information to learn. She is a fair grader. Her tests are a bit hard.
Shes can't teach at all but shes hot. >=)
She was very fair. She gives 3 exams and 1 final and drops the lowest score so you can't go wrong. Plus, she's a cutie :-)
very straight forward
She is very nice and i really liked her but her final was accumalative. still she is a fare grader and SHE IS ALWAYS THERE IF YOU NEED HELP!!MAKE SURE SHE KNOWS YOU SO GO OVER TO HER AND SHE WILL.
She is a good professor, very helpful, makes lectures interesting and gives good notes. Exams are fair.
shes a fair professor but her exams are pretty hard.
she speaks straight from the textbook, interesting material. no need to go to class but the tests are difficult and very comprehensive. also cumulative. good luck!

I really loved this class and Professor Ackerman. I found her class interesting and challenging at the same time. She's fair and her test are straight forward from the notes/text. I switched from an English major to Psych after taking her course.
Her class was pretty cool. She was clear and tried to keep it interesting. She is pretty too. :) My girlfriend was jealous that I got to watch her talk for hours a week.
First of all, she is not a professor, yet, although she is cute. You needn't come to class except for test days. I didn't know about the final until the day before, but I simply read the remainig chapters and got an easy A. Max. 2 hrs. reading per week.
shes great. she explains everything. her exams are multiple choice. all you have to do is show up to class, listen, and skim the book. thats it. easy A
She teaches right from the textbook. You never have to go to class.
She's a very good teacher although she teaches straight out the book
Teaches straight out of book. Don't get anything done. But attendance isn't required.
Good, suggest taking her
Good teacher but she follows the book which makes her class almost useless. However, going to class is still recommended b/c she will give you a better grade if you do so. Three tests and a final (all multiple choice) make up the grade. The lowest of the first three tests are dropped. Fair tests.
Great at what she does.
If you take notes quickly or get the notes from someone else before the exams then you're pretty much set. Nothing tricky, but lots of scientific terms that you'll need to know. If you have any questions, she'll answer you.
teaches right out of the book dosent make the material interesting at all. for an intro class she makes you memorize basically the whole book and her test questions are pretty tricky
she is very nice and passionate about her work will help you if you ask for it! if u do not study for the tests they can be tricky... but non the less if u take her i dont think that u will be disappointed :-)
she's very easy. just study and u'll do fine. she's very helpful and explains things very well and she's pretty straightforward.
Awesome teacher. She explains everything really well and will go over it as much as needed. Her tests are so easy if you take good notes and just study them the night before. Dont even bother to buy the book, she teaches straight from it so your notes will be exactly what is on the test...take her!
She is a very good teacher. If your going to psychology you really should take it with her. She gives 3 exams and a final. Out of the first 3 exams she drops the lowest grade.
Pretty easy class but at the same time boring because she teaches exactly from the book except for minor things that she might add in or say that the book is wrong. Just study the notes and read the book. Try not to take the class in the morning because you might fall asleep. Better as an afternoon class.
great teacher and very helpful. the material is straight from the book which is good bec it reinforces what we learned in class. i recommend taking her class!
c'mon people this is a psych class which should be damn easy but no its damn boring and if i have to read the book why evenn bother coming to class, complete waste of time, i dont care about a grade but a class should be a best learning experience
Very nice professor always tried to help you when ever she could. Really cares about her students definately take her!!
Her class is really easy. She drops the lowest grade, and the final is cumulative. She tries to make it as easy as possible.Attendance isn't mandatory, but if you attend on the regular you won't even need the book because the things she mentions in class is on the test.
My bad the finals are NOT cumulative
She's a great teacher. Explains things well. Is extremely fair in grading, gives more than you deserve. Three open book exams plus lab quizzes. She tries to make it interesting. Works with you because she wants you to pass with a good grade.
She is really cool! She explains the course very well. I Really enjoy her class! If you are having trouble in class she helps out too. The test aren't hard if you study from the notes and read the book. you wont have problems taking good notes because she explains the subject very well. You wont regret taking her class.
I LOVED THIS CLASS! Okay I admit, it can be a bit of a workload studying for these tests, it is a lot of information that you need to have memorized but the class is soo intersting that its not even a problem. Prof. Ackerman explains everything crystal clear and expects you to know what she taught you. And the matrial you learn in abnormal psych is
As long as you go to class, take good notes & read the book you should have no problem passing the class. Even though,I sometimes did not like the prof. attitude when I would ask a question after class. It is still a good class to take. This prof. explains the material very clearly & also tells u what u need to study for the test.
She's good to go. She makes a difficult course pretty easy. After a while she starts to look really cute. It is very important that you get the book as soon as possible and show up every single day for class on time because the course work moves quickly.
I took this class on the weekend and at first I thought the 3 1/2 hr class was going to take forever to end but after the first day with Prof. Ackerman it went by very quickly. She explains and explains until she is sure that you understood the material. I would love to take another class with her especially psych 213. She made this class soo easy!
I thought the 107 course was too easy and a waste of time but I will admit that as a teacher she teaches incredibly well.
As long as you have the exams from last semester, you'll do fine. I promise you.
She is extremely thorough and quite knowledgeable. I don't like the fact that she does not post notes on blackboard (like every other psych prof), and that she doesn't control the moronic questions from a couple of annoying students that take us off pace. Would def recommend
Stay AWAY! No notes on blackboard til the day before the exam, rediculously paranoid about cheating. I agree with being strict about cheating but she takes it to a whole new level! Beleive me! Not helpful if you have a problem. I've always done well, and have never really had a problem with professors, but this has to be the worst professor ever.
Yes I completely agree with the person below me.WOW! She does not help you at all,she does take cheating to another level,I hated this class..it was the worse! I realzed its the way she teaches it because one of my friends recommended this course to me and after I took the course I realized, what a mistake.STAY AWAY FROM THIS PROF!
Not easy and she's pretty strict. She cares though--encourages students to come to her for help if we need it. I didnt do as well as in other psych classes, but she took a lot of time to help me study and do better after I bombed the 1st exam. Definitely don't take if you just want an easy A.
Awesome Professor! Best one I've had so far- I loved her so much i took two other classes she teaches and did well in them as well.
How should I study for her exams?
i would not take her...3 tests and one essay..yes she is strict about cheating...if you plan on cheating do not take her unless your really good at it cause she walks around the class and just stares at you! very anal about everything, she knows what shes teaching but she needs to relax more! if you want to study-take her. if not- find another prof
This professor in the beginning seems helpful, but clearly she doesnt care about your grade and shes really annoying to listen to. I wouldnt take her ever again.. bad experience..
all these losers need to stop whining. I missed the last quarter of classes and still managed a B+. no DUH you gotta study, its not some stupid 101 class, but she isnt going to give you essays and homework. AMAZINGLY nice teacher, and personally as a psych major, im gonna try to take her class as much as i can
She's the best teacher I've had at QC, i'll take her any chance I get. She is very clear and very knowledgable. Her tests are always multiple choice, and simply listening to her lectures will get you a decent grade. Because of her love for the subject, she makes things very interesting.
Has such a passion for her topic, it's difficult to not find her class interesting. Will need to study for tests, but mostly from notes. If study and understand notes, should do fine in class. Very interesting and fun class
She is a really nice professor.. her tests are straight from the notes. Alot of people dont show up after the 1st week but you really should plus ull enjoy it
i did the mistake of taking her class twice... the first time she gave me a D and i didnt learn.she is not a bad teacher, she just teaches REALLY fast and she goes through the slides really fast.she is not really helpful on improving your grade, i wouldnt recommend her, unless you are extremly smart and fast.she is interesting but teaches to fast
Horrible Professor!! Do yourself a favor and don't take this proffessor! I enjoyed learning about the material, but if you have any questions to ask her she will blow you off and give you an attitude. I failed the class, and she does not want any of her students to pass.
AMAZING PROFESSOR!! Provides students with powerpoint presentations. Come to class and take good notes and there will be no problem with receiving an A. I definitely recomment her!!!!
Great professor. Material is very interesting. She teaches with a passion and explains the material very clear. Take good notes. powerpoint presentations are provided. I wish there will be more professors like her! Definitely recommend!!
I can't really say that she is a bad professor, just really boring. I was really interested in the subject matter before I took this class, but during the semester that waned because of her teaching style. I got an A, so I guess I would take her again...
Great prof- extremely clear. Tests are very thorough but not tricky. Take good notes, study them and the slides and if you have time glance at the textbook but its not really necessary. Two pet peeves of hers- don't talk to your friends and don't cheat- strict on both. ppl gave her bad ratings because she wouldn't let them cheat... twisted.
I felt that she wasn't helpful at all. You ask her a question and she makes it seem like its your fault for not understanding. Exams were okay but some questions i felt were either tricky or vague. She posts up slides last minute and even her final grading isn't nice.
BEST Prof EVER! She was very clear and helpful. She def knows her stuff and her exams are challeging... you MUST study!Take good notes and her office hours are very helpful if you have any questions. Best prof!
She's definitely better than the other psych professors. Very patient and willing to go great lengths to help students understand materials being taught. A great deal of work is needed on student's part to achieve an "A" in class. Overall, I think she's wonderful and I would definitely recommend her.
I completely agree with the comment below. She is a great professor for statistics, she explains the material to you until you get it and answers your question. Very kind and great professor. Highly Recommended!
Agree 100% with the comment below me. And the fact that she got a chilli pepper on fire for her looks is beyond me, she looks like an average 20 something year old white woman. But hey, her class wasn't terrible.
Have to thank this professor for making me work for the grade I got- She knows her stuff, and gives a lot of her time to the students- as a non traditional student I found it a bit intimidating initially, but after all is said and done, I know I got a full semester of instruction from a well qaulified instructor. Still dislike STATS,but dig her.
Good professor, a bit picky, but pretty clear on the material. The class is boring, and if you dislike math, you will find the material challenging at times. She does her best to explain it and recommends tutoring/office hours often. 3 sets of exams, and final, really have to put effort in!
Excellent professor! Explains everything clearly. If you're looking for an easy A, you're not going to get it here. This is college, and she conducts the class as such. If you take good notes and study hard, you will do fine. Definitely recommend her; I got an A+.
Rude and into herself. She has no time for questions during class. Makes things material much harder than what it really is. Avoid her at all cost. BTW: Yes, I expect a good grade, but still.
I loved her class!! She is one of my favorite psych professors so far. Just go to class, pay attention and you will do good. Plus, the material is actually pretty interesting. I learned a lot in her class, and unlike many professors, she actually knows what she's teaching and how to teach it. It is not an easy A, but it is not difficult either.
Love Professor Ackerman. Lectures are so clear and tests are straight out of the notes. She is willing to help students when they need. If you take good notes and study you will do well
Great teacher! Class was interesting and the tests were perfectly fair as long as you come to class and study the material. You don't need the text book, everything is basically from her lectures, which are so clear and so easy to take notes. I would recommend her for any class!
Good professor. 3 tests on the lectures and notes. Fair questions. If you study and show up you'll get a good grade. Doesn't really open the floor for discussion though.
Not an easy class, very challenging material. I was not interested at all in the class when it began, however, she was brilliant at keeping me interested in statistics. She is not an easy instructor, and I really worked for my A+, but she made that grade possible with her teaching. Gives lots of extra credit as well. Great professor.
I loved her, she was very clear about what she expected from the beging and her grading system is awesome, counts the lowest grade only 20% second lowest grade at only 30% and the final exam at 45% she really does want her students to do well and it shows in her lectures, also the test are just multiple choice and she gives freebies on exams
Got a B. Very interesting topic, unfortunately her teaching is scattered as well as the book. Treats students like toddlers and she is extemely annoying. AVOID HER AT ALL COSTS; unless you want to be treated like a 3 year old. NEVER AGAIN! Got a B. Very interesting topic, unfortunately her teaching is scattered as well as the book. Treats stu
i agree.. she treats students like kids! she doesn't want to hear any opinion. hard class. she keeps going on & on & on!!!!
Great professor, very clear when she speaks. Textbook is not necessary, study your notes and you will do really well. I received an A+. Takes attendance.
Prof Ackerman is very good at what she teaches. Not an easy class, but she makes the lectures super interesting. Slides are posted 2 days before the exam, however I would recommend that you take good notes, attend each & every class,& listen carefully. If you are a person who likes to talk during class and text constantly,THIS CLASS IS NOT FOR YOU!
3 problem set exams (12% each), 3 multiple choice exams on concepts given same day as problem sets (5% each), cummulative multiple choice final (11%), 3 exams in the lab drops the lowest (13% each), homeworks due every class (6%), plus participation. attendance manditory.
3 problem set exams (12% each), 3 multiple choice exams on concepts given same day as problem sets (5% each), cummulative multiple choice final (11%), 3 exams in the lab drops the lowest (13% each), homeworks due every class (6%), plus participation. attendance manditory. must have txtbk
the class is very hard but the way she explains is amazing. very interesting class and she knows her stuff. loved the class :)
She is a horrible teacher. Her notes are confusing, I wouldn't even call them notes. She expects you to take notes but has no organization as to how she presents the information. She switches back and front and you are unable to keep up. She does not answer questions in class nor is she interested in helping. The topic is very difficult. AVOID!!!!!
She was great! The class was by no means easy, but she taught clearly and if you pay attention in class and study you should do fine. There are 3 non-cumulative tests and she counts the better grades for greater percentage. Don't bother buying the book unless you won't be in the lectures. I would definitely take her again.
The class is fair, and the material is not difficult. The professor can be snobby and her nose is literally in the air. If you follow her notes and listen to the lecture, you'll get an A.
Prof. Ackerman is one of the best professors I have had at Queens College. She presents the material clearly and in an interesting way. I had the textbook but barely read from it. All you need to do to get an A is go to class, take good notes and study. The slides alone are not enough to do well! Make sure you take notes!
SHE IS THE BEST PYSCH PROF I'VE HAD IN QC! SHE MAKES CLASS EASY AND INTERESTING. SHE IS VERY APPROACHABLE. I'M TAKING HER AGAIN FOR PSYCH 221. YOU DONT NEED THE BOOK AS LONG AS YOU GO TO CLASS OR KNOW SOMEONE TO SHARE THE BOOK. TAKE GOOD NOTES! WHATEVER SHE COVERS IN LECTURE WILL BE ON THE TEST FOR SURE. SHE'S THE BEST YOU WONT REGERET IT.
Love this professor. her exams are little hard but if you attend all the classes and pay attention, you will get an A. she explains very well.
Great teacher! Knows how to teach the material and really engage her students. Makes it really interesting for anyone sitting in her lecture and test are pretty straight forward if you study. Deff recommend her.
she is a great professor. she explains everything slowly and in great detail.when it comes time for the test you will have everything in your notes to get a good grade. i took this class on Sundays, it was all day but i believe that it was easier then doing a little every day of the week. as long as you come to class and take good notes youll b gr8
Great class! helps to read the textbook and go to class.
She does a great job and taking complicated material and presenting it in a easy, clear way. I don't know if I would have done so well in the class if I took it with another professor. I got an A+ but worked hard for it (it is a 4 credit class). I also had her for lab which helps. Take her!!!! Great class!!!
She knows her stuff, her lectures are very informative. She explains the material clearly. 3 multiple choice exams. Recommended
She is the best lecturer I've ever seen. She's been teaching the course for a long time and the experience shows. The info she relays is clear and she lectures by looking at the students in the class like she's having a conversation with us, not by reading from a powerpoint like some professors. Was interested in class the whole time. Got an A.
Great professor! She made the class very easy! As long as you go to lecture, and keep up with the work, there is no reason not to get an A. her tests are exactly what she teaches in class! I would definitely recommend taking her! I got an A+!
Really easy professor!!! if you attend her lectures and take notess will you do great on her exams!! overall shes pretty easy and very interesting makes class fun.
Took her for 217 but she is muchhh easier for this class. 3 (not accumulative) tests that are are straight from notes, very straightforward. You have to study hard and know every detail though. She teaches straight from her slides but taking notes is really important- the tests aren't from the slides.
Her exams are okay, but she is too specific.. You need to study every little thing. No bueno.
Great teacher. Explains everything really well, tests are clear and reflect the information taught. Her powerpoints are only an outline so you need to take notes. I'm taking her again next semester. You don't need the textbook.
Class is ridiculously easy but teacher is not helpful at all
She is very straight forward with the material but her exams arent easy.Shes not helpful when you ask her a question on an exam. Very easy online homework. She has a cold personality... its like shes made out of stone. But overall manageable class. But you have to put in the effort for this class cause the tests can be tricky.
This is the third time I taking her. Hands down one of the best professors QC has to offer. Very straightforward, very clear in what she wants and the test aren't that tricky as long you study and go to class.
An amazing professor! Her notes are very clear, even if you miss a class you can get her powerpoints online anyway. Tests are pretty easy. She is very understanding and always open to questions or explaining things further for you. Take her class if you can!
Excellent teacher. She explains things very clearly. There is a lot of information to take it, but her slides and lectures are where she gets most of her material from. I used the text book to look at some brain diagrams, that was about it. She also grades very fairly and offers extras points if needed.
Taking her now for 217 and 221. She's amazing!! Extremely clear during lectures and her exams are straightforward. I'm going to try to take as many classes with her as possible. And for people who said she wasn't helpful- a lot of people ask questions about exam policies, textbook reading, etc., but when you have a real question she will answer it
Her exams are very straightforward, from the power point slides. DO NOT USE YOUR PHONE IN CLASS! she really has eyes everywhere.
Prof. Ackerman is a great teacher. She teaches in a clear manner and will answer questions of students as long as they are not about the syllabus or too lengthy. She is helpful if you need assistance, and her tests aren't too bad either. I would definitely recommend her to others, but advise them that she goes through the material rather quickly
AMAZING PROF!! really explains topics well for students to understand. syllabus, people read your stuff! very straightforward her power points-helpful guide2kno what to study and just take ALOT of notes in class, I read the text book as well just to clarify missed noted but overall if you write down everything she says in class you should be good
Good Professor. She's a very fair teacher and her material is easy to understand once you pay attention. She's very clear and goes over the material if you need help. Her exams aren't hard. She gives 3 exams, 2 parts each. Part 1 is multiple choice and Part2 is long answer, open book. Grades are fair but you have to work for it.
signed up for her class because of all the positives ratings on here but after taking her i think she's highly overrated. She does explain the material clearly but in a very boring way.but she really has eyes everywhere. Advice: Bring coffee to lectures so you don't fall asleep. Would not retake a class with her.
her grading is unfair, she has TA that are not good they fail to give her the grades of homework. she doesnt explain her textbook and her exams has nothing to do with the book.
Would not take more classes with her. Boring class but Nice teacher!!!
Dr. Ackerman is one of the best teachers I have ever had. She explains complicated material clearly and is willing to help if you are struggling. Her tests are straight from the material, so if you study you are prepared. The only way to possibly fail is to not take the tests (failure is nearly impossible). Wish she taught more classes!!
Go to class! The textbook does not help you as much as going to class. everything she says will be on the exams. Make sure to do all the online assignments. They are very easy (mainly asked what your opinion is on the topic). Its an easy 10 points towards your final grade!
wonderful teacher :)
(Lecture hall class) This class is great! Very interesting, sometimes a little boring. Dr. Ackerman teaches so clearly and at a great pace. Her teaching experience truly shows. Def has eyes everywhere. Drops lowest exam grade but not the final exam. 3 exams, final and 10 BB assignments super easy--5 mins tops to get it done. TIP: Always read instructions on tests. On 1 test it'll say something like "if you read this, writing this w.e she says on your scantron. And you'll get a point added
This Professor is nice and will work with you a little bit. This Professor is not easy and has a mind her mind set like she is teaching elementary class. I did enjoy her class but it is not that easy!
Very interesting! She makes sure everyone understands the material before moving on (so asks questions if your unsure) Very sweet. 3 exams, lowest gets dropped and a final. weekly easy assignments online that takes a few minutes. and 2 quizzes about the syllabus for extra points. read directions for the tests as well!
She is sweet! It's lecture course, but as long as you go to class take notes and copy slides, you will do well in the course. I would and have recommended her to other students.
A real educator in every sense. Lucky to be in her class.
Look here's the thing, shes a good teacher. Explains the material and makes sure it's clearly understood. What I just didn't find appealing was the fact that she, give or take 20mins, trying to explain an idea with over bearing examples that were similar. She's no bad professor, actually a good one. She just need to simmer down with her examples.
go to class and you will get an easy A
Dr. Ackerman is amazing at what she teaches. She explains the information crystal clear and is passionate with what she says. Keeps the class interested and you will actually want to listen to her. Tests are a bit detailed so need to take good notes and study. Overall she is a MUST! Wish she taught more courses!
She's a very good teacher and she makes the material easy to understand. The tests are very straightforward. The only thing is that her power points are very vague and its basically just an outline, so if you go to class and take good notes you will be fine. Attendance isn't mandatory but you need o be there for the notes.
Awesome. Super engaging and entertaining. Dr. Ackerman knows her stuff! Make sure to read the instructions on all her exams (3 plus a non accumulative final and she drops the lowest of the 1st 3) because sometimes she will sneak extra credit into them.
Pros:Great Professor, tries her best to teach the material in a clear manor. 3 Open book tests. Lab is easy and helps boost your grade. Cons: HW is mandatorytedious, tests are difficult (Multiple choice portion) because there are not many questions which means you will fail if you get a few wrong. Does not drop any or curve,I learned more from lab
She's a great teacher.
I really enjoyed having her as a professor. Statistics isn't an easy subject but she tries her best to make sure students understand it. She offers extra credit on every exam. Anyone who complains about her, obviously doesn't do their own part of studying. TAKE HER!
Very educated. Clear cut. Makes you work for your grade.
Professor Ackerman is great! Always willing to help even makes youtube videos to help you understand material. She commits to her students and will free up time to help you. MC quizzes are tough, the open book problem sets are easy, lab is somewhat difficult (SPSS). However exams will always be worth 104-108 pts bc of the extra credit! )
does a really good job trying to get the student to understand. got an A+. one of the easiest class i've taken. To do well, go to class (didn't need the textbook), really pay attention, especially the first half of the semester because that's the foundation. Once you get that, the rest becomes really easy. take your time with the hw, it helps.
I switched into this class thinking it would be a laid back, easy course load type lecture. The class itself isn't hard, but I couldn't stand her voice. She doesn't do a good job at explaining anything and has a super annoying voice that makes it hard to concentrate. Not an intelligent woman at all, you should attend the lectures and take notes.
Dr. Ackerman is amazing! She really knows her stuff and is willing to help you. Her lectures are clear & organized. 3 Tests total(final is a regular test), which all have extra credit Qs. Counts higher test grads more than your lower test grades (highest: 34%, middle: 30%, lowest: 25%). Posts grades on blackboard the next day. Textbook not needed.
She posts the slides online, but in order to do well on the test, you need to be in class to hear her talk about each slides or else you won't get all the information. You should be taking great notes in order to do well. Her lectures are interesting and she explains things very well.
She is NOT helpful via email. If you miss class, she will not help you on the material you missed. Go to class or buy the textbook if you don't plan on it. Honestly, her lectures are simple but a bit of a bore...
Shes an amazing teacher. I thoroughly enjoyed her class. She conveys the material very well and will spend time going over it with you if you didn't understand anything the first time. Would defiantly take again.
Loved this class! Grading criteria was clear and tests matched what we were told to expect on the first day. Would definitely take her again.
She was an okay Professor but her exams were little tough. She would put two very similar answer , also you have to know the DSM for a lot of questions. She use Top Hat which wasnt bad. I wouldn't take her again. Also she late with uploading the slides. If you memorize the slides and class notes and skim the textbook you should be fine
Absolutely great professor! So long as you pay attention in class & take good notes the tests are very easy. Her exams are all multiple choice (some questions only have 3 possible answers) and each have extra credit questions. She doesn't have much on her slides because she wants you to take notes on your own. Would take her again & 100% recommend
Not bad, at times would be confused with what she was teaching. She also has an attitude. Snaps back at students. I asked her for help once and her attitude turned me off. Also made us take our last test on the same day as our final because we were behind because SHE cancelled class numerous times. Read the text it'll help!!
Best professor! Dr. Ackerman explains the material extremely well, and does not try to make it difficult or add tricks. Online hw is harder than the tests. Tests are straightforward, she grades fairly, and there is always extra credit. She reviews before each test. There is a cumulative final but it is not hard and she tells you exactly whats on it
Can be very funny and friendly but when the switch flips you can expect a hostile environment and sarcastic/discouraging responses if she finds your question(s) unintelligent. Sadly expect half to a full grade lower while putting in the same effort. Sweet lady but far from tactful and simply unequipped to teach the sensitive subject of psychology.
One of few lecturers on campus that don't bore me to tears. show up, take notes, go over them, read slides. Taking own notes is vital since slides don't cover everything, but everything on her exams are from lectures. She gives bonus questions, you can drop lowest of 4 (not including final). Textbook unnecessary if you pay attention. Easy.
Attendance isn't mandatory but participation is 11% of your grade and if you're not in class answering TopHat (an app) questions then you can't get the full credit. The exams weren't bad, you go to the lectures and read your notes then you'll do fine. some exam questions weren't discussed in class however. In all it was an OK class a bit dry.
Average professor. Be sure to take extensive notes. There are no review sheets for her tests - make sure you understand everything beforehand. She also has a tendency to be sassy when students asked questions. Participation isn't mandatory but she does use Top Hat where she posts random questions for students to answer during class.
Do not take this professor! She does not answer emails- it takes multiple times of resending the same email to get a vague response. She talks very condescending to students. Do not trust her and do not trust her word. Lazy teacher, unhelpful, and would NOT take again.
She's one of those teachers that doesn't really care about her students. Her class is not the easiest- and don't bother asking questions. Not the biggest fan. try to take someone else
Currently taking Stats with her. Cancels class a lot and still holds students accountable for work not covered in class. Doesn't respond to emails and gets snappy with students who raise their hands and don't provide the right answer. Can't wait for this semester to be over already... Take at your own risk. You're basically teaching yourself.
Take someone else. You'll thank me later.
Literally taught myself everything. I'm in her class right now and could not emphasize enough to take someone else. She cancelled class 6 times, made us teach ourselves it, moved test dates around that was a huge inconvenience for students. Will never answer your emails and has the biggest attitude problem I've ever seen. Take someone else.
If you plan on taking this professor be warned... She cancels class and then makes students responsible for work that was never taught. You can't do that in a Statistics course because all of the coursework is vital to take any upper level courses. Also moved around examination days and crammed the third exam and the final into the same day. AVOID!
She's a very good teacher, I like her. I never took psych before, but the way she explained the concepts was clear. You don't even need to read the textbook or even show up to class. Just memorize the slides and you should be good. HW schedule wasn't too grueling. Although, you need 4 research credits for psych so start those as soon as you can.
Professor Ackerman is a great lecturer. In class, she went slowly and did a couple of examples per topic so that students could fully & clearly understand the material. However, she was absent multiple times for personal reasons and expected students to pick up the slack. I just self-studied, read the textbook and did well on the exams.
The course didn't become too hectic until towards the third exam. Professor did however take a whole month off from class and this only created more stress for the students. We had to learn a lot of concepts on our own and even more topics were just left out of the lesson altogether. Most of the class failed after the third exam. Take someone else.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! She does not explain concepts clearly and will not assist you even if you go to office hours. Behaviors are repetitive each semester meaning she misses almost a months worth of classes and will combine two exams for one day. You are expected to self-teach in her class from day 1. Save yourself the stress and F grade.
I should have taken these reviews seriously but didn't. It's week three of the semester and she has missed two classes already. Then she emails the class and says that we have an assignment due on something completely unrelated to the class. Changed the class textbook after we bought the one listed and says we need her book. Transferring out!
Students are not priority. She is not a dedicated individual and could learn how to speak nicer to students.
Don't take this professor!!! I'm a sophomore and decided to drop her for the sake of my honor's status. Get's confused when lecturing and misinforms. Attempted to ask a single question after class and she began to get angry telling me to read the textbook.
Needs to learn how to talk to other people. Rude and not very helpful.
MUST TAKE!!!
Very mean to students and not helpful.
best teacher i've had in college, goes in depth in her analysis of topics and covers every topic on the exam. have never had a teacher who explained ideas better than she did-- a must take! exams are straight forward if you know the material- spit back 2 points per question with a few extra!!!
Not the best experience of my time in college. Was afraid to participate during class due to her constantly snapping at students. While lecturing, would often get confused by the slightest noise and then spend 10-15 minutes ranting. Grading is confusing as she doesn't go by the syllabus and constantly edits material. My advice, take someone else.
Let me start by saying that while she may be very intelligent, Tsippa in no way, shape, or form should be teaching ANYTHING involving Psychology. Very rude to students and humiliated most of us during lecture on a daily basis. Lacks respect for others and clearly doesn't care about teaching or her students. A number of us reported her to the dept.
Just to note the difference, I ended up getting an F from her last semester. Just finished taking another professor for Psych-107 and walked out with an A. How? Because she makes everything more difficult than it needs to be. A word of advice, take someone else who actually cares about teaching and whether or not you're learning anything.
I honestly completely disagree with everything said before. I thought Tsippa was an excellent teacher, by far the best I've had in my college career so far. She relays the information crystal clear, making it easy to write notes. There is no need for the textbook if you come to class and take notes. I really really enjoyed her class.
Honestly, she's a really great professor. BUT you must pay attention in order to pass. Go to her lectures, take notes and ACTUALLY study and you'll do fine, everything she says will be on the exams! She seems like a sweet heart. There are 3 tests and a bunch of fast online hws every week. Nothing to hard. CONGRATS ON YOUR BABY DOCTOR A!
Maybe she has changed based on the past reviews, but I love her. Granted I can see blips of the issues others have pointed out, (I wouldnt call her warm and fuzzy),but none of the issues take away from her vast knowledge and ability to impart that knowledge to her students... doesnt joke often but if you catch one its usualy very funny.
She was one of the absolute worst professors I have ever taken. Not only does she always mess up when it comes to simple math, but her attitude towards her students is annoying. Any time a student would ask her a question she would cut them off and tell them to wait or to stick to her problems and not according to what it says in the textbook.
This professor is not for everyone. That being said if you read the textbook and attempt to get a grasp on the concepts in the textbook in advance you should have no trouble following along with her lectures. Just don't try to jump ahead in her lectures. She has a pace that she tends to go at and if you try to speed it up she will get irritated.
Dr. Tsippa Ackerman is really nice and down to earth. She wants to teach the class at her pace for good reason - there is a lot of material to cover and she explains it best. If you read the textbook without her lectures - good luck. If you read the textbook after her lectures and do some of the practice problems you should definitely do well.
BEWARE. No textbook, slides have very little information. Her test are more about what she says but she is not clear whatsoever. It's disappointing for a Psychopathology course. If you are not an auditory learner I advise you to not take her. Many times she'll "go blank" and will forget what she's teaching!
I first had Stalias for 217 and then got swapped with Ackerman. Her exams are EXTREMELY specific and require A LOT of studying. Slides are not enough. She does compensate by giving extra credit on the exams. She doesn't seem too mean but for a psych class, it requires a lot of studying.
She seems nice on the surface, but she is in fact quite rude. She never wants to help her students. She can't even answer a simple question during the lecture. Her answer is always, "I'm not sure" or "umm I'll look it up and let you know" (which she never actually does). Disappointment for Psychopathology course.
No review sheet, extremely confusing, provides slide on blackboard but they are SUPER disorganized.
Im gonna give ya an honest review. She isn't the best, but she is not horrible either. The exams are basic common sense, but they are in fact based on what she says more than the slides which makes sense. The slides are straight to the point, if you dont get it then that sucks since its simple info. When taking notes, just write what she says!!
I was scared to take her at first, I didn't hear great things about her, but honestly i thought she was pretty good. No review sheets for the exams but that is not mandatory for professors to do. Her exams are pretty straight forward, exams are organized similar to her slides, just pay attention to what she says, she'll repeat if its on the exam.
She's an amazing Lecturer honestly. YOU NEED TO SHOW UP TO CLASS to understand the material! I haven't used the textbook not once, because she explains everything very well and her what she says in her lectures are on the tests. Her ex are great and you NEED to write down everything she says to study. No reviews for tests though, but great!
I LOVE HER! I honestly don't get why she doesn't have great reviews, bc I really enjoyed her class. It's not a joke A psych class but if you just take notes & study what she says in class, you'll get an A or A+. The blackboard hw assignments take arnd 5 mins & are easy. She counts your highest grade the most & gives easy ec. & you actually learn
Shes okay, not too difficult and somewhat easy. Her test are multiple choice and her few hws are easy. Her lectures are a drag and you have to study off the text book too because her slides are NOT enough. There are no study guides which I think is unfair because her slides arent enough and she goes off the syllabus a bit.
Nice lady but the class was hard for me. There were a lot of things we hand to know. The tests are okay as long as you study.
Professor Ackerman is great. Her lectures related heavily with the exams so pay attention to what she says. Her hw is simple and to the point. She was a bit frustrating at first with her younger son who would be in the background during the blackboard collaborate meetings and post things pretty late. Overall, her lectures were very interesting.
Her class is easy, we had 3 exams and the occasional edpuzzle hw. The only difficult part was that she's not easily accessible outside of class, and missed class sometimes. Quarantine hit her hard and her son made it difficult to teach at home, but I think she'll be better next semester. Just go to the lectures and take notes and you'll be fine
ok honestly she isn't bad but if you really need gpa up and not risk ur gpa then I'd suggest you to not take her her lectures are basically her talking which most of the time she goes off topic sometimes her exams are barely close to what she talks about out in class no review sheet no study guide all on your own she is caring but.....
Professor Tsippa keeps lectures engaging, though exams can be tricky without review sheets. Using Unstuckstudy for practice alongside the textbook helped me prep effectively.
