Dr. Tran is such a fun and respectful teacher. He will help you with any questions you have during lab or after. He is a real gem and I appreciate him as a teacher. He feels like a friend and a teacher all in one.
Take this man at all cost! He is so kind and understanding. He so good at explaining the labs, and will help with anything you need. He responds back to emails so quickly which is always an added bonus. 10/10 would recommend.
Cares about his students and gives study guides. Take him if you can!!!
Great lab professor! Clear expectations and clear feedback. Gives chances to bring grade up, and provides all resources to do well in the class. He really cares about biology and was interesting to learn from.
I love Dr. Tran so much!! He is so sweet and caring. He made lab fun and would help anyone if they had questions. He was very clear on what was expected for lab reports as well. 10/10 would recommend him for lab!
Such a great professor I would take him again he cares a lot about his students and he gives you many extra credit opportunities! Canvas was well set up and everything was super organized for the class. This has been my favorite class I've taken and I would recommend having him as a professor
One of the best professors I have had at South! Developmental Bio is tough, but Dr. Tran did an amazing job with the course. Interactive reading is super fun with Perusall, Dr. Tran also came in and help with our questions while we read. He is very personable and always available if you need extra help. I would highly recommend taking him.
Dr. Tran is really great and truly cares about his students' success. If you are a student that is willing to put in the work, Dr. Tran will do everything he can to help you be successful in his class. The quizzes, lectures, and concept checks are extremely helpful in preparing for exams.
Dr. Tran is awesome! He definitely cares a lot about his students & wants them to succeed. Offered a lot of generous bonus opportunities if you're willing to put in the effort. Tests were fair and truly tested your knowledge of the material, no tricks. Pretty lecture heavy, along with textbook readings, Perusall annotations, and literature reviews.
BLY 490 Molecular Plant - Microbe Interactions If you need an upper-biology class credit, this is a very great option! It was a very interesting class; I highly recommend it! Dr.Tran gave many bonus opportunities. He wants his students to succeed and is super helpful and understanding. Weekly quizzes and hw, but only 2 exams and a final project!
I would definitely take Dr. Tran's class again, especially if I needed an upper level biology course. Genetics is hard, naturally, so you're going to need to put the work in. Overall, though, Dr. Tran makes the class a lot simpler.
Dr.Tran was a very good professor for Genetics. He gives plenty of homework and bonus opportunities to bring your grade up. He is a very understanding professor so just message him if you need any help.
Dr. Tuan Tran wants all of his students to comprehend the material and succeed in his courses. He is a great professor and if you need any extra help, go by his office hours!
Dr. Tuan Tran is awesome because he genuinely cares about student comprehension and success in his class. He gives extra credit and if you have any problems or questions, go to his office hours!
Professor Tran really cares about his students. He is willing to help anybody that asks for it. The tests are tough, but there are review guides and quizzes given out before tests that really help you learn the material. The multiple homework assignments really cushion your grade. I would recommend takin Dr. Tran 100%

Dr. Tran is one of the best professors that I've had. His lectures are thorough and helpful, and he always takes care to help you succeed if you put in the effort to seek help. He gives lots of bonus assignments and the final is a project rather than an exam. Take Dr. Tran's genetics class!
His class is very lecture heavy and he uses iclicker for attendance. His tests are pretty difficult if you are not prepared for them. In the beginning he gave a ton of homework but later on gave less.
He was very helpful and gave good lectures.
He gives good informational lectures.
He's a good professor and allows us to extend dates on assignments if we give him a reasonable reason.
a good teacher and very understanding
Dr. Tran is super caring and understanding. If you ask him for help, he will be more than willing to help you. He is very smart and you can tell he is passionate about what he is teaching and wants to make sure we get a good understanding of the concepts we are learning. He gives lots of assignments and bonus point activities that boost your grade.
Dr. Tran is very kind and very dedicated to making sure you have the best experience in his class. He consistently made changes to accommodate our opinions. He does weekly quizzes that you NEED to study for and then there are four exams and one research project. ALSO A LOT OF EXTRA CREDIT:)
Dr. Tran was an amazing and caring teacher. He offered plenty of extra credit, study guides, and practice questions to help us prepare for tests (I got a 100 on 2 of them). He reduced the amount of homework we had when we told him it was too much. Take him if you can.
Lectures are important, they have all the information you'd need. He also doesn't round up grades.
Doesn't round up grades, but everything you need to know is in the lectures.
He is very understanding and willing to work with you. Material was easier to understand if I went to lectures. A great professor !
Great professor! Super passionate about his job and is always willing to help if you need anything! The lectures teach you anything you need to know! Tons of extra credit too!
It is a reading heavy class, but he is clear about what the important information is. There were lot of bonus points. The quizzes are similar to the exams, and he would go over the most missed questions in class. I would take another class with him. He also seems to value how students feel about the course and actually used our suggestions.
He is a great professor and cares about his students. Also gives out extra credit.
This class was a lot of work, but Dr. Tran told us about all of it beforehand and adjusted the amount and the due dates when we told him it was too much. He was very knowledgeable and engaging, which made lectures very enjoyable. He gives a lot of extra credit and is very nice, take him if you can.
All assignments including tests are online so its easy to do your work if your busy, he also give multiple extra credit assignments so it allows for your grade to be better. The only down fall is that he does give a lot of homework, but its worth a lot of points so it can really bring up the bad exam scores. He also uses I-clicker for extra credit.

Would recommend Dr. Tran. Great teacher that is willing to help students understand the main concepts of Genetics and is lenient with past/missed assignments.
Very organized lectures and is willing to assist students when needed. Also provides extra credit assignments.
He is a good teacher I would take again. Just need to have more points.
He was a good teacher. I just wish that there were more points available.
Good teacher would take again.
He explained the material and prepares you for the exams
I enjoyed learning in this course. Dr. Tran made sure that students could understand the material. The only thing I would suggest is that he would provide more study materials as the course is very challenging.
So much extra credit. No reason not to pass. Lectures are powerpoint based so easy to follow along for notes. Seems like a lot of homework, but it helps your grade tremendously.
Id recommend him, he's a great professor.
He is a great professor that loves his job. Be prepared for a lot of homework assignments and exams that contain a lot of information but as long as you study and retain the information you should be fine. He offers a ton of extra credit throughout the semester that you may want to take advantage of.
He was a great teacher! I liked his tests, the questions were very similar to the questions on the quizzes, content and difficulty. This made studying for the exam much easier.
Wonderful professor would take again
It was clear that he care about his students through his lectures, bonus point opportunities, and review and implementation of feedback he received. I just wished that participation was necessary and influenced the grade so much.
Dr. Tran put a lot of effort into his lectures and readily used constructive criticism to change the course for students. He cares about his students and is very understanding. The grade depends a lot on homework and participation, but I wish participation was not so influential.
Get ready to teach yourself a lot. He doesn't lecture enough for the questions he asks on homework and tests. He gives a lot of easy homework but doesn't really help a lot. Do all the extra credit assignments and you'll do fine
Get ready to teach yourself a lot. He doesn't lecture enough for the questions he asks on homework and tests. He gives a lot of easy homework but doesn't really help a lot.
Very understanding. Works with students and cares about their success.
I had him for Bio Lab. Every experiment was done with lab partner or group. There is no textbook but you will have to read the lab protocols every week and be tested on them. There is a post lab to be done after every experiment, it is kind of time consuming so don't wait until the last minute. Lots of graphs to make in Excel.
Molecular Plant-Microbe Interactions: Professor Tran did an amazing job of connecting our lectures to the real-life examples of why studying plant-microbe interaction is so important! Even though this is a lecture class, we often have little experiments that helped to demonstrate concepts we learned in class. I would definitely take him again.
Lots of reading assignment as homework, but at the end I understood why Dr.Tran wanted us to read.Dr. Tran did an excellent job of delivering the material. I also really like the literature review sessions in which we discussed research papers relevant to the topics we learned in class. I highly recommend taking Developmental Biology with Dr. Tran.
Dr. Tran is very knowledgable and passionate about what he do. The material covered in the lectures will be on the quizzes and tests. He cares about the success of his students and is willing to work with you if you talk to him.
I have had Dr. Tran for both genetics and developmental biology. He is an amazing professor and I would recommend him to anyone. He is extremely knowledgeable and is good about answering any questions that you may have. I also think this course is one that you will remember for a long time because the material is very interesting.
Dr. Tran is not the nicest person to communicate with he can come off as rude, especially when you ask questions. Be prepared for homework due every Friday. He is not lenient on ANYTHING, so if he assigns something turn it in asap. His tests are hard, and the weekly quizzes are not the easiest but you can use your notes.
This was one of my favorite classes this semester. The lab reports and quizzes can be a lot if you don't keep up with them at times. Dr. Tran was very helpful with what he expected our lab reports to be.
Tran's ways of teaching helped out more than the biology lectures. He makes sure everyone understands the lab and is great to talk to. Tran is very learnable in labs and assignments. If you do the pre-lab work, focus in class, do the post-labs, and ask for help if needed, you will make a solid grade in his class.
Genetics is not an easy course by any means, but with Dr. Tran, all you have to do is try, and you will get a passing grade.
Dr. Tran is not very interesting, and his entire class is just him lecturing and it gets hard to listen to. Reading the textbook was the only reason I did well in this class. There is a quiz due every single Saturday along with homework.
He was a great professor.
Attending lectures helps maintain grades, but I faced a family emergency early in the semester, affecting my attendance and grades. Dr. Tran was supportive and genuinely cares about his students' success. The only issue was not knowing the due dates for Achieve textbook homework, which a calendar update could fix for future students.
He was a good professor, participation plays a huge part in the class. Has weekly quizzes that can cover a lot of material that can be hard to do with that much information.
Dr. Tran is amazing! His lectures were always interesting and he wants you to be successful in his class. Weekly quizzes online, but they aren't too bad if you study and pay attention in class.
Dr.Tran is awesome! He gives good information in class and keeps you interested. He gives weekly quizzes, but just study and pay attention in class, and you will be sucessful.
He was a good professor, but definitely heavily lecture based. He did give opportunities for bonus credit, but over the material was fairly difficult to understand and required a good amount of extra time outside of class. Definitely read the textbook if you take this class!
The easiest A
Nice teacher but the tests are difficult. Be prepared to study a lot.
His tests were online on your own time which was nice.
Prof Tran was great! He has a deep understanding of biology and is willing to help you learn. Weekly quizzes and lots of homework but it is worth it because this really helps boost your grade!
Professor Tran Tuan is a clear and organized instructor who understandably explains complex topics. He uses real-world examples and encourages student engagement. His approachable nature and prompt feedback support student success. His teaching style creates a positive and effective learning environment.
Didn't follow some of the things on the syllabus but knowledgeable about the course.
Dr. Tran has strict rules, but they really are just about being respectful and doing your work. LOVE the grading scale being someone who does poorly on tests. Tests are not weighted heavily at ALL. Decent amount of homework/quizzes, nothing extreme. This is not an EASY course but tests having a lesser effect on the grade is why I passed. Good guy.
He is very strict about his grading policy but he offers a lot of bonus. He's very nice outside of class but he can be kind of snippy during lectures. He lowkey reads off the slides but as long as you read the text book, you'll pass.
Genetics is the only class I have this semester that had everything so well organized! It is super easy to find assignments/exam/review because every module has an overview listed everything you need to do for the week. Dr. Tran is caring and will work with you if you missed an assignment or had an emergency.
Tests are taken under lockdown browser, so great for people with test anxiety. He gives bonus credit and his content is easy to digest. I have taken him for Cell Biology and Genetics and have an A in both.
He's a great professor but I struggled a little. His powerpoints are not as helpful unless you go to class and take notes on them. He uses iClicker for attendance. One thing is that we had Achieve assignments do each Saturday with the quiz but they where not linked to Canvas so it was easy to forget. He is a very fair grader and a great professor.
Homework matters a lot towards final grade.
he was average. the class is easy to pass
This professor was good, the class was very straight forwards. For a genetics class it was easier than what some professors would make it. The class was structured and organized. Attendance is mandatory since iClicker is used for every class.
Tough class, but genetics is a tough subject.
Good professor he just might not work for everyone. Participation wasn't counted but iclickers during class went toward your grade. It's lecture heavy and you have no assignments besides acheive, just a quiz every week and your exams. He's very monotone sometimes but his test questions are pretty easy if you do achieve and read the powerpoint.
He was a good professor but this is not an easy class in general. The tests are difficult but if you study, it is possible to do really well in the class. I would take him again.
Great professor. He has weekly quizzes that you have to read the textbook to know the answers to the quizzes. All the homework is not posted in canvas, you will have to check the achieve website associated with the class to stay up to date on the homework. He take participation grades for the lectures through the iClicker app.
Tran was an excellent teacher even if the class was rough. During lecture attendance isn't necessary but there is iclicker questions that count as points. Each week there's a quiz and homework but only found in Achieve. Keep focus in the course and stay on track and you should be alright! Tran is also open in his office a lot for walk-ins and such.
Despite the challenging nature of the subject, Tran was a great teacher. Although attendance is not required during lectures, there are iClicker questions that are worth points. Every week, there is homework and a quiz that can only be found in Achieve. Stay focused and on course, and everything should work out for you!
He is not changing the changing grades, including rounding the final grade no matter how close you are, so be aware of that throughout the semester.
Make sure to read/study the textbook for the tests. The tests are hard, but there are bonus opportunities that can help. Doing the homework and going to class on a consistent basis is very important. Genetics is not an easy subject, but he makes the lectures enjoyable for the students who listen/participate.
He cares about you passing his class and will help you every way he can as long as you try in the class.
Every week, there is homework and a quiz that can only be found in Achieve. You need to those!!
Dr. Tran is a good professor and the lecture was solid, however additional and outside reading and studying is crucial for the exams.
Make sure you stay on top of the assignments in achieve. It doesn't remind you on your to do list on canvas, so that is why I lost most of my points because I relied on that instead of actually just going on achieve to see.
DON'T TAKE. He is incredibly knowledgeable about what he teaches however, it's painstaking to listen to because he speaks quietly and monotone. His syllabus will say one thing and in class completely contradicts it. Most of the classes he teaches are taught by Strickland, he is a much better teacher who makes it easier and more enjoyable to learn.
Personally I would say average. If you want to just take a class and you don't care whether the professor is good or bad, pick him. He is not horrible. but I would not say the best professor ever. I probably would not suggest taking the class if you have several options, but if this is the only option ITS OKAY! Just make sure to do all your work.
Good teacher but knows what he wants from you. He will help you but you also have to be willing to put in the work yourself. Attendance is necessary. You will have to take time to study but he gives you quizzes each week that help as well as the online work (work for this class). It is a detailed subject so you will want to study after classes.
Just have to stay on top of the homework and quizzes. A ton of homework.
Attendance and participation are definitely necessary. Reading the book is also necessary because a lot of what is on the PowerPoints does not help to study for the tests.
All of the assignments/quizzes/exams are online. He doesn't link the achieve assignments to Canvas so you have to be careful to always check on achieve to make sure you don't miss an assignment. Also the quizes and exams are through lockdown browser with cam and mic.
The coursework is super easy if you want bonus points he provides them. In class participation is required for a grade
Don't forget to do the achieve homework! It's an easy boost for your grade. The exams and quizes were way harder than the homework in my opinion, but if you're keeping up with homework and going to lecture, you'll do well!
