really easy teacher, and very helpful. Easy to pass his class, but sometimes kinda hard to make what he is saying from his accent.
easy teacher. very helpful. will spend time with you if u dont get the material. he will also help during test if he likes u. just say hello and volunteer when ask help from the class.. very easy to pass
Very good teacher. Explains things well. Very helpful. Easy to pass class.
He's a great professor. he tries hard to make the students understand and pass the class. if you need help with the homework he will explain it to you. the best math prof at sjsu
Professor Nguyen is awesome. He's a good teacher and wants you to pass, or else "We Die." I highly recommend him. He'll move fast in the book if you want, or he can slow down. I'll miss him as our class is about to end.

I never showed up to my regular class because I thought it would be tedious. I just showed up to his class because I think his methods were much clear than the other instructor's methods. He may have a strong accent, but he does the best he can to make sure you understand the material and pass the course. He's a great instructor.
This teacher is very helpful teacher. He teaches the best way that students can understand. Don't miss the review day before the test, you will definetly pass it if you attend. His teaching is very easy to understand.
this has got to be one of the most helpful teachers at SJSU. His teaching style is clear and wants students to succeed. Pay attention and dont be afraid to ask any questions. Cracks some funny jokes every once in a while but still a wonderful teacher. I would take him again for any future classes if possible. Overall, great professor!
a little hard to understand at first but you get use to his accent, want you to do well in his class. he gives you tons of examples. gives ton of extra credit. great teacher all around.
Good teacher
Very good, accent is a little funny but get use to it because its worth it, he wants all his students to pass and he willl help you do that, definatly take him
I love him... he made everything so clear and he was really helpful... just dp the homework and you will b coo on the test... o n particiapte in class...
He is such a good teacher! I went to class everyday because he teaches really good. He helps you to understand every single part of what you are learning. The only down side is that he has an accent. I still don't understand him! haha Make sure you sit next to omeone who understands what he is saying!
SUCH an awesome teacher! im so happy i was lucky enough to get him, definitely highly reccomended! very helpful and i actually learned alot. try and get him!
this class really easy and fun, good teacher and if you don't understand the class "you die!" funny teacher and super easy PASS
This professor is so easy, he makes math seem so simple. Yet he's the only teacher with an accent that can actually teach math, seriously no joke. He makes examples clear and homework problems easy. And if you pass the chapter test for each chapter you dont have to go to class alot. But this teacher is highly suggested.
LOVED THIS TEACHER. makes math fun and easy. just attend class and do homework.
He was one of the best math teacher I ever had. I learned a lot from him. He explained everything clearly and he made the class interesting every day.I highly recommended this professor.
Took calc 3 with him over summer. Really hard to understand because of his accent, but he teaches at a slow pace so I was able to follow. Tests are fair and usually come straight from the homework.
First off, I hate math! Second, I suck at math! That's how I ended up in his remedial course. But, he was a great teacher! He made everything sound easy, he was very clear, and did everything he could to pass as many students as he could. He always told jokes which made math class semi-interesting. Not a lot of homework and only 6 tests. Take him!
Great professor. Enjoyed his class a lot. His tests are easy as long as you take notes, do the hw &do the review. Every chapter review is basically what's going to be on the tests. Class always flew by fast whenever we took notes. I suggest you go to class so you won't miss out on anything. He gives extra credit when you do the chapter review 2-3x.
One of the best professors at SJSU. I enjoyed his class. Lectures were clear and easy. Study guides were helpful. Easy class to pass if you take notes, do the hw and go to class.
One of the easiest teachers on this campus. I came in as a high school student who blew Calculus with a D-. After it was all said and done, I gained much more knowledge on the subject than what I had learned at Piedmont Hills. Despite the accent, he provides detailed notes and explanations. Tests are from hw and manageable. I earned an A. Thanks!
He makes math seem so simple. Yet he's the only teacher with an accent that can actually teach math.He makes math really easy and simple. Cracks some funny jokes every once in a while. He starts the math problems and he guides you. One of his jokes was “I cooked for you, and know is time for you to eat” but still a wonderful teacher.
T . G . stands for the GREATEST!
I had Nguyen my first semester at SJSU. His teaching style reminded me of my high school teacher. His class lectures are easily understood (math-wise); however, he has a thick Viet accent which was hard to understand at first. Homework is mandatory (it's sign everyday) and he gives practice tests with different numbers which was great.
great teacher. He teaches you everything you need to know for theexams. As long as you show up to class everyday, you will be guaranteed a B+ or an A. Just follow his methods. Soooo much easier than high school trig. do your homework. Find the textbook online to save money!
Prof. Nguyen is an absolute great professor. He hilarious and always make you engage in lectures. Provides lots of examples. For people who had taken pre-cal, it's an easy A for you. His class is easy to pass. I highly recommend to take this professor!
One of the best math teachers that I have ever had. He really does his best to make sure that you understand the class and his study guides really help you prepare for the exam since it's very similar. I hope he teaches calculus because I would love to have him as a teacher again.
upset that he doesnt/didnt teach calculus 1 at sjsu :( he says he does, but i never see his name on the class search. but he was a wonderful and approachable, funny man. he has humor and knows how to teach. i really wanted him for calc tho :/
He is not tricky, and all of his tests are similar to homework questions. I got A in his class because I studied a lot. Lazy students wish to survive with C. His explainations are clear and easy to understand. Overall, he is a good math teacher. Would recommend students to take his class because you will learn a lot from him.
EXTREMELY thick accent, it's pathetic. Everyone in my class laughs because he calls everyone dumb repetitively for not understanding the first example of his lecture. Says that we should not be in his class or that we are in the wrong class if we can't follow along which is hard since it is a heavy subject & we can't understand his thick viet acc.
A solid choice for Math 71, best calculus Professor in SJSU period! But that doesn't mean it is easy to pass, the materials are still very hard and need practice. He is kind and always willing to help. take notes, do homework, defintately do more review before test! Again, it's not about him or any professor, it's the material itself if very hard!
Don't be afraid to ask if you don't understand his lecture! He has a very thick Viet accent. You can easily pass the class if you do the homework and show up to every lecture. He'll boost your grade if you aren't absent to any lectures! If you are not good at Algebra, this class will be difficult. You'll only use 10% calculus, 90% algebra, trust me
I loved his teaching, used realistic examples (people, companies) to explain during lectures about cost/revenue/price so that we could understand better. TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN. Like other Calculus classes, you have to study and do good on the test for a good grade.
No matter which professor you choose, there is no way a math calculus class can be easy. If you are a hardworking student, then Pro TG Nguyen is your solid choice, work hard as always you will get a good grade. If you want to find an easy professor to pass math class? Sorry there is no easy math grader in SJSU!
not sure why the level of difficulties rating is so low... Calculus is soooooo hard!!!!! but this is a good professor though hightly recommand
Puts lectures into way you can understand easily. Before test, there is a pre test which is exactly like the tests. Cares about students, and has a few extra credit opportunities, but makes you work for them.
Calc is NOT easy. He uses methods that are easier to understand and make sure you understand them. He's like an asian dad teaching his kids math lol. He will lecture you if you don't understand it BUT it shows that he really cares! SHOW him that you want to pass his class by improving each test score. Hand written hw every week, 3 tests, 1 final.
Pros: Pre-test that looks "somewhat" similar to the actual exam, 5% grade boost for perfect attendance, EC opportunity for solving hw problems on board! Seems like he gives a lot of partial credit on missed exam questions.. Cons: thick accent, doesn't actually review hw problems, never passes back exams in class (visit his office hrs for this),
Such a great professor! Learned more in one semester than 2 years in high school. He's funny, knows what he's doing, and teaches in a style that is easy to comprehend. Notes are also in a good format.
MATH 71 isnt an easy class in general, but Professor Nguyen does his best to make sure the whole class understands the chapters. 3 quizes and 1 final make up the majority percentage for your grade. He gives out extra credit if you solve homework problems on the board. Excellent professor overall!
WORST teacher ever with a crazy thick accent I do not understand how he has such a high score.. told me if I always showed up to class he would curve my grade to make sure i passed. LITERALLY still did not pass even though i studied my ... off, and needed 2% to pass. he does not care about the students and even makes us feel dumb by asking Q's...
Business CALC definitely isn't easy but he uses real-world examples to help relate it back to the work. Definitely go to his office hours for extra help and he'll be there. The class was one of my hardest but he has the highest passing rate. If you go to class everyday and do all the hw assignments it can really boost up your grade in the end
He does not care about his students. Does not try to make anything easy and will get frustrated if you don't understand something. Says that it is not his job to make us understand and that all his job is to lecture. Did not learn much from the lecture, taught myself most of the curriculum. A reasonable amount of homework.
This has to be one of the worst prof. at SJSU, I understand its not his fault for having a very thick accent but he speaks so fast during lectures it almost impossible to right down the notes even if he didn't have one. He says he's here to teach calc. not algebra even when this class is algebra heavy. I asked for extra help nd he didn't give any.
Doesnt rly care for students, "im here to teach calc not algebra" when this class is algebra heavy. Hard to understand and made the class even harder during quarantine, it is true that if you give your 100% in this class which would be at least 5 hours a week if you are not gifted at math then go for it!
Overall good teacher, if you genuinely put in the effort for this class you will get an A. I slacked off and did not study as much as I should have but i can guarantee if you take this class you will be well prepared. You just have to really pay attention during lectures bc of the accent but besides that if you do the work you will pass.
Difficult class for me since it was my second attempt. Definitely saved me very much by passing me, attending every class during the semester adds a grade boost. Admits that you have to do most of the work, granted this course is a lot of out of class studying. Thick accent but livable. Homework straight out of the textbook, no online HW nonsense.
Prof TG is a good professor, but he is super harsh and is not afraid to tell you that you will fail the class. He is specific, and maybe because I am not good in math, I failed. but regardless, I hated how blunt he was and didnt really offered any help to me
Lectures are good but his accent can make him hard to understand at times. The hw is the hardest part not because there is a lot, but because it contains the hardest problems. The tests have simpler problems and are graded on work instead of just the answer. Before each test there will be a practice test due that is very similar to the real test.
A God amongst men. Really good teacher for pre-calc, cares about his students and may round your grade up if you have good attendance and pay attention. Grades you based on your work, not just the answer. available for office-hours outside of class (not sure this holds up with the pandemic, online). Tests are based of a practice test done in class.
A solid professor who cares about his students' success. He will give you extra credit to boost your grade if you ask for it at the end of the semester. His accent is not as bad as some of the other reviews say.
C+ bcus was dealing with a loss, not due to his teaching. 4 assignments every 2-4 weeks, 3 midterms (almost identical to study guide). One final - not difficult as long as you understand prior concepts. Accent seems strong at first but you get used to it. Attend class, gives work shortcuts. Zoom meeting for exams. Takes attendance. Homework is long
Calculus is difficult but this professor tried his best to help us understand. His study guides are good to do because they're identical to his tests. I just didn't think review sessions were effective because students would keep to themselves. I would prefer if he just answered the questions all together as a class.
Calculus is difficult but this professor tried his best to help us understand. His study guides are good to do because they're identical to his tests. I just didn't think review sessions were effective because students would keep to themselves. I would prefer if he just answered the questions altogether as a class.
Professor Nguyen was a great business calc professor. 3 exams, 1 final, and hw on webassign. His lectures can get long but the info is something u wont find in any other professors. I cant stress this enough - STUDY HIS PRETESTS. Exams are exactly the same j different #s. If you pace yourself and study this class is a breeze.
This is a man, he can teach. Sometimes you will see what he rambles on a bit but, those rambles are what make the lessons more interesting. Yes, there is homework every day (to be expected). He is overall a great professor, please do show up to the class because you can easily miss a lesson and fall behind.
Had for precalc he's a really good guy and his teaching style is easy to understand. He teaches in a way so that we wouldn't be confused and makes it clear what it is. Hw is every day but that's math in general and he is willing to go over questions next class if need be. 3 exams and 1 final but you get a review for all of them and a notecard.
Mr. Nguyen taught business calculus in a way that was easy to understand. Mr. Nguyen is very kind and tries his hardest to make sure everyone passes his class. If you have an F in his class, as long as you get 75% on the final, he will give you a C for your final grade. He also teaches life lessons that you won't learn from other profs.
You will not get an easier math professor than him. His reviews ARE the tests (he just changes numbers a little and rewords the word problems with a different scenario). His final from the math department which he gives you past finals as review (80% are the SAME questions). 2% is ADDED to ur OVERALL grade as EC if u don't miss a single attendance.
If you need to fulfill Math 19, I recommend taking Professor Nguyen. He was able to give formulas that he made on his own to make solving problems way easier. His pretests are similar to his exams, which is great and his homework is due every month. The lectures are very helpful and actually help with the exams and homework that is given.
surprised at the high ratings, I'm usually pretty good at math but I didn't learn much from this class. My whole math grade was work I did to learn stuff (outside of class). He's very condescending teacher.Tells us if we dont understand now we never will.Go to him for help if u need it,he will help! Take class if u have strong foundation of math.
Professor Nguyen not only made calculus understandable for the class, but he also made it enjoyable! He has two midterms and they are very straightforward as he provides pretests that are exactly like the midterm problems, so make sure you study the pretests well. He also offers 2% extra credit for perfect attendance. He is a great lecturer!
I was quite surprised by the bad reviews that Professor Nguyen received on here because he is by far my favorite professor/ the best lecturer that I have had here at SJSU. He connects a lot of the calculus concepts to the real world, which makes it is easy to understand and remember when we are doing the homework/midterm problems ourselves.
I was retaking MATH30X with Professor Nguyen and he was one of the best professors I ever had. His lectures are never boring, and he is there to help you, not to fail you. Don't miss his lectures because he teaches some methods that are actually easier to implement than what the textbook uses.
I had him a second time during summer. Like my first review, nothing has changed. You will not find an easier math teacher than him. He teaches everything you need to know. There are no surprises on the tests because his practice pretests r the the tests. He gives 2% to your overall grade as extra credit if you have no absences. Absolute mad lad.
Professor Nguyen was great. He genuinely cares about his students and he wants you to pass. Lots of homework, do not procrastinate!!! If you do what he says and you show up to class, you will pass. He gives practice exams which are the same as the real exams. Very approachable, funny, and respected.
Nguyen could break down each concept and lesson very easily, and doesn't go by the book. He gives easy methods to solve "complicated" problems. Every exam is the same as the practice review he assigns, just different numbers. He has a thick accent but writes everything on the board. Wish I had a teacher like him in high school lol.
Math70 We had 3 tests and 45 homework assignments, the homework assignments would be due a day before the test online. He gives a pretest before every test which is exactly the same problem just different numbers if you understand the pretest you will pass the test easily. Just show up to every class he adds 2% to your grade. Go to office hours!
dude's funny but that's literally it. has no capacity to teach and tends to ramble. self-taught myself because his explanations were mediocre.
[MATH70] He goes through lectures very fast so if you doze off a bit then you'll end up missing something crucial. He is alright. He doesn't submit grades through Canvas and lowkey puts everyone's grades on blast even though the names are anonymous. Just like every MATH70 class, all exams have the exact same questions but different numbers.
Professor Nguyen is very clear about all of his rules and expectations for the class. He gives you everything you could possibly need to succeed and tests are exactly like pre-tests. If you have any questions he explains concepts well. Lectures are also very entertaining due to his lively personality.
TG Nguyen is a heavy lecturer, and he explains the material too fast for me to process. He goes by the material and problems too quick for me to understand them. Also beware! He gives Homework everyday, and it's really easy to fall behind in his class. If you have problems with procrastination, or learn at a slower pace, do not take this professor
Really great, not difficult at all
He does have a heavy accent, so some students may have a hard time hearing, but he does explain the topics and example problems step by step very clearly. The homework is online and if you do them after the topic of the lecture that day, homework is easy to do. He will let you pass the class if you get above 78% on the final exam if you're failing.
Amazing math professor, he's a little harsh but cares about his students. Extra Credit if you do not miss any days of class (literally no kidding). Give Pre-Tests for everything including final so study that and you will pass I promise. DO NOT procrastinate homework it will hurt you. Unless you like to be called on do not sit in the front.
Probably the best math teacher I have ever had in my life. His lectures are amazing and he explains concepts so well. Although attendance isn't mandatory, you definitely need to go. So much information is covered within a single day and there's a good amount of homework as well. Usually it's 1-2 assignments per day so try not to procrastinate.
You'll learn a lot from the guy when you're in class. He teaches the relevant material to the midterms. He wants to help everyone succeed, even giving an grade curve opportunity at the end of the semester if people did horribly all semester as long as they put the effort in.
lack of interest in students. I learned more studying privately with my classmates than I did in his class. does not read emails. Extra credit is confusing as a college student I barely have enough money let alone invest in stocks for a measly 2% extra credit. Would not recommend this class to anyone with any commitments outside of this class
Thought he was good because of reviews..no. Nobody in my class liked him because he rushed through lectures with a strong heavy accent. Would not answer majority of questions like a normal professor, he said ask ppl around you. Your job is to teach and go step by step. Instead we are all trying to rush through the notes before class ends.
I love Professor Nguyen in Math 70! He's really funny and teaches at a good pace, but he might not be the best fit for everyone. If you're not strong in math, I wouldn't recommend him. He sometimes cold calls students and expects you to know the material right after he explains it. Some might say he's mean, but in my opinion, he's just being real.
Professor Tuanh is a good professor, and is good at explaining the concepts to his students. He is also caring and his study guides really match with the midterms and exams. If you show up everyday of class you will get extra credit on the test. The only problem is that the study guide is not effective on the final test.
I liked his lectures a lot -- they're straightforward and digestible. Yes, he does have an accent but you can get the gist of what he says 8/10 times, and the other 2/10 times you can ask him to clarify. Don't procrastinate on the online hw, know how to recognize what equations should be used, and you'll do fine. Would recommend.
Tuanh is hilarious lmao. He always made me happy to go to lecture. His lectures were really similar to the exam so studying was easy. Take this professor.
First class I ever failed and made me reconsider continuing college. He gives homework each class and has a smart mouth. His class is exam and lecture heavy, and teaches at a very fast past. Never responds to email at all and study guides are nothing like test. Final exam are also nothing like midterms. Wish SJSU had better math 70 lectures.
Has an accent but you can get used to it. You can take pictures of the board and just sit in the back, but wont be able to hear what he's saying. Sit in the front and you hear him clearly but get ready to get called on to answer a question. Every once in a while he'll yap about random things like "invest in gold" or "my son is opening a business"
Super funny guy. He will help you out a lot if you have full attendance and are engaged in lectures. Gives pre-tests that are identical to exams. Sometimes homework is a lot so just keep on top of it by finishing it after class every night. No textbook but you'll have to buy Edfinity for $30. Has an accent but is easy to get used to.
His lectures don't involve any use of textbook, or any documents. So you have to be in class to learn the material. Gives hilarious examples to remember concepts. Sometimes goes on tangents. He explained inflation to the entire class by using price of gold. This made the class much more fun. All HW is due before the midterm, so lots of time for HW
This teacher has a very heavy accent and it will be hard for most students to understand him. I do not recommend taking him if you struggle with math and often need extra help from the teacher on homework problems. This teacher is not much help at all! If you write a email asking for an explanation he just writes the equation you need that's it
DONT BE FOOLED BY HIS RATING. Lectures are hard to understand (accent) he goes very fast. He doesn't help much with the homework if you have questions. Lots of homework due very quick so they pile up. Don't even use the ask my teacher prompt on cengage ($112 bucks btw) because he doesn't even look at them. You're gonna be teaching yourself tbh
Ignore the review under this one because they got it wrong. Personally, the professor is understandable even though he has an accent. His teaching is straight to the point, which might be a difficulty, but can be easily understood either way. Only true drawback is his handwriting since he writes very small.
Math32 over the summer. His accent is hard to understand, plain and simple. He talks fast and sometimes goes on tangents unrelated to the material. I read the textbook anyway and understood concepts well enough (C- bc I was lazy). Lots of time for hw but do it on pace with the lectures. It's literally just his accent that can make lectures tough.
You have to do a lot of self-teaching, and the professor has a very thick accent, which can be hard to understand. If you tend to learn more slowly, I wouldn't recommend this professor.
Had a heavy accent that was difficult to understand at times but paying attention to the board helped. Gave out 3 tests before the final exam. Tests have 8-12 questions and bumps you up 5% on each test if you have perfect attendance which helped a lot. Overall good professor that cares a lot about teaching Math.
Not bad, I know he has an accent but he gives out pre tests before the tests, and the tests are similar to that so you can memorize it. Don't procrastinate on the homework even when the final due date is coming before the test.
He actually teaches pretty well, easy to understand but lowk fast paced. He does have a strong accent, but after a week you can understand him well. Tests are very similar to pre-tests he hands out. HW piles up if you fall behind. He does take attendance and wants you to succeed. He gives opportunities to improve ur grade if you are struggling.
Thick accent, understandable but non-native English speakers may struggle. Massive amounts of homework that doesn't count for very much. Quick, clean notes, but incredibly easy to fall behind. Good test prep. Overall an okay professor, but not very accessible outside of class. Do not recommend if you have no prior experience in calculus.
Mr. Nguyen is very knowledgeable on his subjects. If you pay attention and write down notes, you'll be okay. He likes to give examples to help you understand the topics more, which I appreciated. Gives out test practices that are literally the same as the real test just with different numbers. Homework stacks up.
Apart from the thick accent, he actually gives very clear, straightforward lectures with notes on the board you can easily copy. Homework isn't hard, but don't fall behind. The best thing thing is that he gives out "pre-tests" that are EXACTLY like the actual tests, just with different numbers, so it's incredibly easy to do well on the real ones.
if you have perfect attendance he gives a generous grade bump. Thick accent, but you can just study up from the board. His study guide is almost the same as the actual test. One thing that was bad was the homework; sometimes it had over 100 problems for one assignment.
Professor Nguyen cares and wants his students to pass. He has a thick accent, which can be hard to understand. However, his lectures on the board are easy to follow, and his study guides are similar to the tests provided, which makes studying easier. Gives extra credit for attendance, so show up to class.
