very unique guy.. he seems to entertain himself because he's always smiling and laughing even when the class isnt! his courswork is easy, the tests are based almost solely on the reading from the book. easy A if you're a bookworm...
He's overall a nice guy. Amuses himself alot. Class was fairly easy. If you go to class and do the work (reading) its hard to get a bad grade in the class.
He's weird. I took him in summer and he offended some people in class. His tests are multiple choice which is not bad. He's off the topic.
nice guy...actually makes poli. interesting!...easy A if you just pay attention and read a little
DON"T take this teacher if you want to learn antying about political science. Hes always goin off topic and seems to be the only one laughing at his own jokes. That loser, test aren't to bad. If you want to get a good grade make sure u read the textb
He's slighlty helpful when it comes to issues in the book, but even though he asks about current events for discussion, he refuses to "get into that right now," on the majority of them. Interesting guy. Constantly off-topic.
Caffine anyone? The man is a addict, and half the time he doesn't even drink it. He just likes to hold it during lecture and almost take a sip. He is a really nice guy who does know the subject, but doesn't know how to express his thoughts. Tests week
great professor
Do not take this teacher! He is one of the worst teachers I have ever had. Has no organization skills, constantly off topic, and refuses to get into political science events. Hello, that's what your teaching! I would not recomend this teacher.
He is totally a poor guy. He is unwillingly to help even you asked him questions.
Mr. Tully is a great instructor. He can get off topic a little, by telling about his own poli science experiences. But I found most of his stories interesting, and noticed he kept most of the class interested with non-boring lectures.
he's the worst teacher in de anza
Tests weekly and gives most of the answers in lecture. Tests aren't cumulative. HW sometimes in class-so free points. If this isn't your subject and you need an easy/good grade take Tully! Really nice guy don't know what these people are talking about

Not a bad teacher at all...a really nice guy. Not hard at all to get a good grade. Don't even have to read the book for the most part. I got a B and never read. Does go off topic a little, but it's not bad. Always get out early.
I really dont like his teaching methods at all.He expects his students to know everything about politics. He is extremely disorganized and very ambiguous. Not a good professor at all.
DO NOT take this teacher. I am very good at politics because i have taken highschool ap govt. But this teacher SUCKS. His quizzes are pretty easy except for a few hard questions that are gonna mess u up and your grade because there are few questions.
He is not bad at all.He is pretty lenient toward grading.Homework are done in class, he gives out extra points every now and then, and tests are multiple choice based on most readings. On his lectures he points out what will be tested.Quiz weekly.
I hate him the most.He is the ****ing **** .He think that he is all that and stuff .Do not take his class .He seems to be ****. His class is all about tests and quizes and you might going to fail .Stupid ass teacher.
Such an easy teacher! He's very down to earth and speaks to you as if you're on the same level. I NEVER read and just listened to what he would say in class and ended up with a B! His quizes are short, but usually easy,I did****TY on 3 and still got a B
Mr. Tully is a weird ass guy. I don't think he was a good teacher at all. I didn't learn jack****, and I got an F beceause he wouldn't let me in the class cuz i was late a couple times. DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!!! HE SUCKS
Not a very hard teacher. Keeps his lectures interesting, tests are based on lecture and also on reading but he goes over the reading in class as well. Easy for me to get an A from, didn't expect anything unreasonable, and when no one in the class did well in the test, he took the blame. :-)
He may not always be very clear but at least you can tell he is passionate about politics and has real firsthand experience. Like any class, you get out what you put in.
Never take this guy. He talks way off topic. You cant learn anything. He'll test you stuff on the quiz that he never lectures about you or not even in the book. He loves to laugh at his boring jokes, which make no sense anyway. He's an extremely boring. He never explains well. Dont take him.
Very nice teacher, not very understanding if you are absent and miss an assignment but that's my only complaint. His class is extremely easy, I opened my text maybe twice the entire class and I got an A. He's a lot of fun to talk to and if you're up to date with news then he'll love you.
Excellent, helpful. Read the material and you will do very well.
class was interesting because there were discussions in class. assignments were fairly easy but a lot reading
Boring guy. He'll tell you to read a book, One Life of Ivan..., that he never talks about; he just tell you to "Read it for joy". MY ASS! He always laught at his own stupid jokes. Dont tell him that you are a democrat, if you are, otherwise he'll give a "C" for your final grade.NOT RECOMMENDED!
Solid on presidency and legislative branch, could use some work on judicial. Good man with solid values and not intimidating. Tully is cool if you establish rapport with him
He's a good teacher. He's not the hardest teacher, but he's not the easiest either. Quite a bit of reading, but take his class, cause he's a good teacher.
He is the MOST awkward person I've ever met. His class is very boring but soooo easy. Just do what he tells you to. Don't ask any questions because he spends hours answering simple questions and is VERY unclear.
I liked him, he's kinda of weird, but all teachers kinda are, he's really into politics and i liked that. there is a lot of reading in his class, but u don't really even have to do it cause his leactures are what are really on the test, and i also really liked his leactures

Meh....
Stay away GPA slayer he is not what these postings reflect. Don't believe the hype. The instructors work deals withthe moderator of this site and post fake postings that are not based on actual student feedback. Ironically all the worse teachers have the best ratings and the good ones reputation is trashed by this site. You were warned buyer beware
I liked is class. He was'nt clear . Just listen to his lectures and you will get a good grade. Tests are baded on his lectures. He might ask stupid questions in the test of what he lectures. I would recommed him.
Tully is a great teacher. Most of his quizzes are based on the lecture, so be sure to pay attention in class and take notes. The style of teaching is somewhat unconventional, but it works pretty well. I really enjoyed being in his class.
he's weird which is a distraction. the class goes on easy but next thing you know the material is not on the tests. beware because he likes to use irrelevant material such as what president was an ****, and how tall they were instead of the work the did for us.
He's cool. You don't have to work too hard and even though he's not always clear in explaining something, you'll figure out out from the readings. It's also good to have a teacher that loves their subject and he was really passionate about it.
quite hard but somewhat helpful
this guy is very weird, his lectures are ridiculously dry, and he enforces his policies to the extreme (ie. shutting the door on this guy who was seriously less that ONE MINUTE late). i WAS interested in political science until i took his class.

Arrogant son of a dog! He is a stuck up white boy who thinks he can come to class unprepared and just talk about**** that ain't relevant to the text and most importantly the tests. This guy sucks most folk know not to take him- buyer beware. Two thumbs down on Tully - Nully. No Way, bore fest and he don't know jack about Politics!!!
Great teacher! He explains clearly, if you don't study of course you will have a bad grade. He gives you great opportunities to have a good great. You learn a lot and he is not boaring. Of course, if you are not a good student you will think he is not good.
Mr. Tully is the best teacher for Pol 1! If you want a fun and creative class, take this one. You don't get board and he is fair grading.
His lecture is very unclear. his class is exteremely boring. he doesn't know how to teach. i don't recommend him if you care about the teacher.
very ez...i really mean it...u might not enjoy his lec..but u'll be very much hapy with ur score n grade n thats wat is necess..in the end..rite??
You have a test every other week which sucks cuz that means theres tons and tons of studying to be done. He's really super anal with attendance. He's a pretty cool guy but I'm sure theres easier teachers at de anza than this guy.
I took his class as a tender young boy of 15. It was pretty boring so I slept in class in the first row. He got a bit irritated. The tests are pretty easy and the textbook is a bit dry. I bought one used and it was hella vandalized. Got an easy A, but I don't like Tully.
Mr. Tully was a joy to have as an instructor. He covered a lot of information in a short period of time and made it of interest. I recommend this professor
He is really weird. he seems like he comes to class strung out on coffee and he's always sweating. He's just totally weird to talk to. It's hard to approach him. it's fairly simple to get an A in the class if you do the reading, but overall, i would not recommend this teacher.
maybe i m stupid, maybe i suck at politic and maybe i m just not a nerd. But seriously i just dont know how u guys think it is easy. There is a quizz every 2 weeks and I did find him weird during lecture. His class is boring but he always let us go early. If ur taking 4 GE, forget it. its not the class u want to take. 2 much reading and quiz r hard
He started off great. Super easy because he lectures only on what's going to be on the quizzes. Then, just before the quiz, he gives you the answers to the concepts he skipped. At the end, he got a little stressed and strung out. GPA booster for GE, but not good for PoliSci majors.
He is a good teacher. If you're interested in politics (why else would you take this class?), you'll enjoy his class a lot. An easy A if you pay attention to lecture and do the reading.
Very easy, just read and pay attention to the lectures. He often wanders off topic and goes into his life or political aspects which often goes beyond class times. Takes attendence at the end of class so you can't bail early. Just read and take notes of the stuff he highlights. But, some questions on the quiz are not covered in the text or lecture.
He makes puns and cracks at politicians, then squints his eyes, bites his tongue as it sticks out, and nods feverishly in a laugh to himself as if he was the only one with the sophistication to understand it. Everyone else got it, just only he laughed. He also slides in his own politics, saying "in my humble opinion" to keep the class neutral.
boring class. makes nonsense.. dont take him.. he's a weirdo...
i liked him. He was amusing, didnt try at all to act like a professor. if you have questions during lecture he would always re-explain if needed. Hes a nice guy that did like to hear everyone talk. He would tell you to write certain things down specifically cuz theyd be on the quiz. Yes, a little strange but id take him again.
I actually learned politics in his class. Yes, his class is sometimes boring, but he is a good teacher. He really cares about students working full-time jobs so he really makes class easy. Just show up, take notes, and study for the quizzes. It's easy. And he'll help you if you ever need it. Very nice man.
Boring class!!!! The class is pretty straight forward. He helped write the text he uses for the class so its really boring. Attendance is mandatory at the beginning of the quarter he makes you sign this promise note (your basically promising not to cheat and miss 4 classes or else your dropped!) Go to class and you'll pass!
I took his Poli1 class and got an A. It's hard to NOT get an A. Very easy going teacher, with a great sense of humor. People just need to make themselves available to LEARN not just sit in class, you need to be PRESENT!
This teacher laughs at his own jokes, when no one else does.He will complain if you leave class early or even go to the bathroom during his class so slackers..beware!overall, it`s a pretty easy C, if you read the book.
pretty chill teacher. he has some interesting remarks, says "in my humble opinion" a lot haha he truly loves the field. take good notes and read you should be able to get a B. i think he drops a test and a quiz score. class was okay.
Easy going class, I didn't care for it much...just another general education class I had to get out of the way. All that I learned was self taught, Tully only reniforces random ideas like how to spell Schwarzenegger. If you are a good self learner then take this class. Otherwise run away.
He is a coffee addict but made poli sci worthwhile. Read the book and take good notes he basically gives u all the answers to the test. NO papers and plenty of discussions..i was supposed to get a b but he gave me an a instead. Easiest poli 1 teacher ever. As long as you take notes you should get an A
He's funny, charming makes poly not so boring. TAKE HIM he gives you the test questions! take good notes and read the book. You have to be pretty dumb not to get an A
I thought Tully was a pretty cool guy. I was surprised to see negative reviews. I got an A in the class, taking it 330-510, we usually got out at 430/445. I would recommend this class to anyone who will take time to study a little for tests. No homework, and about 4 tests.
Mr. Tully is pretty okay. His tests are not that hard if you study for it. But there's a lot of reading you have to outside of the class. He leaks out test questions before the test, so thats an example. I recommend him though.
I have no issue just read the book in class and beside he makes some of the quiz open book and he always encourage he is awesome
he is awesome just read the book that is easy and will encourage
passionate. hates hates tardiness, leaving class...anything in that manner. take good notes, because ALL notes are on the test. participate for extra points. simple class if you put effort. nice guy
He tells you test questions beforehand, but you have to be in class every single day or you will miss a LOT. Also, you have to read the book, every word, even the boxes on the sides. He's extremely inconsiderate of students' needs and thinks too highly of himself. DC must've taken his soul.
Mr Tully is a really great guy. He is clear, understanding, and goes through everything perfectly. If you are interested in polisci, take him. He used to be a senator aide and worked in D.C. He is really great and the only ones who have a problem are the ones who dont really try/dont care about getting a good grade. If you care, you will get an A.
Don't be so naive about the extra credits lol. It will never be given out. If he had given that to me. I will have an A for sure. I absent two times and was late twice because of madeup exam WITH prior notice to him. At the end of the term, he said that I absent quite often and that I was often late. He is just a retard giving me a B! State U loser
i think he is easy...just come to class everyday...take down notes and study, you will get an A...simple
Tully locked students out for the whole class period for 5 minutes late, and he called students jerk for knocking on the door. No bathroom break allowed. This professor is a man with PMS. He violated his rules. Boring lectures. Super unprofessional.
One word for Tully? Average. Average teacher, average lessons. Not bad, but not great. Listen, if you're majoring in Poli Sci, then get a better teacher-but most of us are trying to get our CSU requirement, and he's a good teacher to help you do that. Easy tests, easy hwk, easy grader.
Weird guy to talk to.He seems to have a problem with me saying 'Hi" to him,to which he replied as rude;saying I must address him as "Mr.Tully" instead(last time I checked I was still in america). He can pick out the littlest, most unimportant thing from the textbook as a question;so do your reading well.Rely on yourself,NOT HIM, to get an A.
Gives ample opportunity for "extra credit" took his class 1.5 times but got an A the last time! He can't help the moron factor which seems prevalent at this institution!
Mr. Tully is a great teacher. His lectures are based around the exams and you would have to be an idiot to fail his class. Make sure you attend class everyday and don't be late! Other than that, it is an EASY, fun class.
I am an A student and when i took this class lets just say I did not get a good grade. You MUST do the text reading and it's long and boring. He does not tell you what to expect you must know all of the chapters and he chooses random questions. Very picky and in-personable.
He is an average person. I just got a" B" in this class. You need to do a lot of reading and be prepared for the exam.
Good extremely fair professor. Though at first thought he was too much into the minutia of American Government but I actually walked away having learned something about American Government! Much better than my AG prof at SJSU where i got a D. In Tully's class an A! Which just proves he is a quality teacher!
Quizzes you on the most random and unimportant parts of reading. (Is it really important that Taft was the fattest president?) Lectures tend to go off topic. Instead of staying with the topic of Am Govt, he shows us an irrelevant war movie and assigns us a novel to read two days before the final.
Tully's a bit strange, but nice. 6 tests, drop your lowest score; tests are fairly easy. Tests are pure notes/reading, with a few questions thrown in that were never discussed that you'll have to guess on (he can be disorganized). He's a nice guy to talk to, pretty fair, and makes for a fun class. Take advantage of the few extra credit chances.
he is just a fun guy very easy, all you have to do is read his notes from the class that is it. he has a smiley face all the time which is just fun.very helpful.
he's nice and laidback. everything is straightforward if you just pay attention to the lecture notes and read the textbook
Funny
exams are very easy, take notes and read the chapters then A is in your hands. Sometimes some questions in the exam are based on movies and lectures in class. But the problem is he isn't very helpful, he doesn't like to answer questions after class.
He always has a smile in class but you soon realize that it is fake. His tests are fair and his lectures are ok. He relys on the book so make sure you read the chapters. The biggest problem is that he hates students using the bathroom, are you serious? its a 2.5+ hr class and he is pretty moody.
Read a book on top of the textbook that had nothing to do with political science. Doesn't even look you in the eye when you talk to him. Take someone else if you can
One exam every two weeks based solely on book and lecture material; pretty easy, save for the unusually specific questions. Study guides are provided only in the lecture, but they are gruelingly slow-paced. Attendance is mandatory. There was something about his character that I disliked. I would not take this teacher again in spite of earning an A.
I learned a lot from the class but I really did'nt care for Tully. I dont know he just gives off the impression that he doesnt really want to help you. I would never take a class with him again.
Easy class - just take notes and ace the quizzes. In fact, there is no work besides the quizzes. He isn't too helpful and the final was rather unrelated to the class (Soviet Literature + WW2 movie). I wouldn't take him again but if you are deciding between him and a similar rated teacher, I would just take this guy.
He tells you test questions beforehand, but you have to be in class every single day or you will miss a LOT. Also, you have to read the book, every word, even the boxes on the sides. He's extremely inconsiderate of students' needs. He requires a 60% on final are auto fail even if u passed every quiz with an A
The class was tough and although the lectures were interesting they were hard to follow along. Be prepared to take lots of detailed notes and I would recommend study groups.
Tests are pretty easy if you take notes in class and read textbook. Sometimes the test has random questions too. He's pretty boring and tries to be funny but fails. Recommend taking another Political Science teacher.
I dropped a political science class before, because I hate politics. Tully made it interesting and relevant. Class is based on lecture notes and chapter readings. This is college, expect readings and notes.
I don't like Political Science at all, but his leactures and slides really helped. Just put a little effort and pay attention and you should get a freakin A or B. Its literally easy. most questions on the exams are off his notes and slides.I actually enjoyed class with him. If i Could I would take another class with him.
Average. Very challenging material, but if you work hard, you'll reap what you sow. Show up every day, and on time, or you will miss material that WILL be on the test.
At first, Dave was hard to follow but I found him very easy Fall Quarter 2012. He's easy to follow and understand. His exams are very easy. I got a B in his class. If you want a good grade, take him! He's very good and easy.
At first, Dave was hard to follow until I found him very easy in the Fall Quarter 2012. He's very easy to follow and understand. His exams are very easy and his class was very easy. I got a B in his class. If need a good grade (A or B), take him! He's here to teach you and show you the slides and the lecture. Just go to his class, attend and take notes from the board and the slide. Then study from the notes and the textbook for every exam, then you'll do fine!
Mr. Tully is an awesome teacher. He really cares for the students to learn. His exams are fairly easy and grades reasonably. Must attend class and take notes. Be ready to read and use study guides its very helpful.
took his summer class and it was the easiest class ever. we had a quiz every week but they were extremely easy. go to class, take notes and study before the exam. He is the easiest teacher for poli sci in de anza! take him!
Refuses to answer questions, after class. And makes no eye contact at all.
He is really nice and knowlegable. He really cares about teaching and it shows. He is one of the best teachers I have ever had at De Anza. He drops one of the exams and his test are easy as long as you take good notes and read the text.
I was lucky to have Dave in his class. His class was very easy. In the end of my days, I'd recommend Dave for those who need a good grade must take him. He will teach you very important and good material, lecture on the board and slides. You take good notes, then you study from the notes and the textbook, too. Show that you will do great!
I wouldn't recommend this teacher solely based upon the fact that he would constantly get off topic and ramble on about pointless things that had nothing to do with poli sci. His tests were alright(he drops one),and he lets us go early every day. Hates when people leave to use the bathroom. Take another teacher if you can.
It's a good class, and I would recommend it only if you are willing to attend all the lectures. Take notes and pay attention and you are guaranteed at least a B. He really tries to encourage students to work hard in school (sounds cliche but it's kinda helpful to be honest) While trying to be very understanding and kind.
I know De Aza doesn't really have good POLI 1 professors because most of them require you to do some community service, research papers, and discussion. However, in Tully's class, you won't deal with any of them mentioned above. Simply six tests, easy homework, and the final exam. I would say his class is very simple and definitely not a bad choice
P: No community service. Do the reading and attend every class and you should be fine. C: You need to read everything. He answers questions half the time; and never about anything in the book or a prior lecture. He's extremely unhelpful, will answer a question with a question. Demands perfect attendance, often cuts classes extremely short.
Please do not take him. He's rude, does''t remembers anyone's name (regardless of how many times you have talked to him or he's called on you). Everything is a "private conversation" even if you're asking when the assignment is due. Doesn't gives eye contact and says he's "Too old" to go back to show you notes during slides, he goes too fast!
If you just sit in class and listen for a bit you'll be sure to pass the class. The class itself was very easy and did require a lot of time to receive a good grade. There's like 5 HW, 5 midterms, and one final. HW is super easy where it either takes 5 minutes alone to complete or in class while midterms and final is all MC and no writing.
He is such a kind person. Very patient and always tries to be understanding. It's a show up and listen, take notes kinda class. I'd probably recommend it. He let's you out early a lot too
Great professor. 5 midterms. But you'll do fine has long as you read over you notes. He is very straight forward he tells you what to expect and what to stupid. Makes everything very clear. Final has a big impact on your final grade. Don't pass the final don't pass the class. But final is the same length as the midterms so you'll do fine.
Even though I like Professor Tully as a person, his online class was stressful and not an easy A. You really have to go above and beyond community college standards to impress him as his expectations are absurdly high. I've heard that Professor Yuen and Tarikh were much easier and you actually learn in those classes. Take their classes instead.
This online course is easy as hell. 5 assignments that are opened every 2 weeks, answers are very easy to find. I think he changed his previous curriculum which is why there are some negative reviews in previous years. no final! no midterm! i may have gotten 108% TAKE TULLY
