Can't understand what this guy teaches plus he is very unapproachable for help.
Hard to understand, unapproachable for help
expects you to know all the answers, will not help: cant understand him
thick accent, very hard class
cant understand him, the TA Luke always clears things up
does this guy speak english???
his class is easy if you go to lectures and dont sleep
He gives fair tests that reflect h/w assignments. His TA clears everything up.
What did he say? dont bother going to lectures, just go to TA sessions!
you know it's bad cuz he wrote his own text for the class...
Very friendly and helpful, I will miss him! Student-pro! A+ Prof!
boring professor. i couldn't keep my eyes open on the first day of class.
Grandpa cannot teach math and makes you buy three books, he is bad!!!
dear god, he left his class before semester was over to go to turkey?! borin

The test questions are completely different from what the HW was assigned to!!!!

class average on first test was 17%, NO CURVE. All but one failed
bitter old man who thinks he's better than the textbook author
Takes forever to grade exams. Expects you to know everything he says. BAD prof
hard to stay awake.. only works ex's from book... study on own & do his handouts
No partial credit. Miss one thing on a proof, get a 0

this guy is a solid teacher. If you actually stop to think about what he is teaching you will be enlightened by one of his classes.
This guy is not easy, he's confusing as hell. He tries, but fails miserably
Unable to understand, not helpful. OK with class average being below failing. Doesn't want to teach. Thinks he knows better than textbook author. Too afraid to ask questions because treated everybody like they were stupid.
doesnt know how to teach. He expects you to know everything, bad teacher!!!
Only those who are idiots give this guy high ratings.
only works problems straight from book, dont bother with class, just teach yourself.heavy accent, soft spoken, and will treat you like an idiot if you dare to ask a question, even though half the time everyone is just as confused as you are.avoid if possible.
Very strong accent. Hard to understand. Does not encourage questions and will make you look stupid for asking 'obvious' questions.
Heavy accent, speaks to the board. You depend on your TA to help you pass. He promised to curve our grades and he didn't. =(
Hard to understand, insults textbook author most of the time. Nobody in the class knew what he was talking about and the homework load seemed rather heavy. High drop rate..
Thick accent, writing illegible if not numbers.Doesn't teach, gives examples and expects you to already know how to do them.Don't bother going to class, must teach yourself if you're going to get anywhere.Drop ASAP!Class average on last test, 46.
bad teacher.
He is very hard to understand, if you have problems with thick accents find another prof.
The class was an easy A. I guess Im just smarter that you retards.
he is unaware he does not reach his students. not good. if you get stuck in this class do all the homework and teach yourself.
hard class, but I managed to get an A with lots of hard work. thick accent. do not ask questions in class, he will make you look stupid.
He's not a very good teacher, but he really wants everyone to learn the material. Just read the book and do the homework problems and you should be good for passing the class. The material is nothing compared to 151, but still a little tricky.
Worst class I've ever taken. Not only is Math 151 a very difficult class but this guy couldn't teach it if his life depended on it. We went from a class of 30 students to a class of 7. Bad Teacher + Hard Class = I failed.
His class was very straight forward. Exams were the same as the practice problems he handed in class. Do the problems, show up to class, and get an easy A for the course. Definitely recommend him for this course!
A professor with a thick accent. Very hard to understand, so the best bet is to sit as close to the front as you can. Has problems getting his point across, so if you ask him a question, good luck getting a solution. Do your homework and teach yourself
get the hell out while you can. or just teach yourself because this teacher is about as usefull as a bag of rocks
I tried to stick it through, but you just got to give up when the class average on the first test is 45.5%. That average does tell you how well he tries to get the material across to the students.

Very straight forward class, however if you plan to learn from his lectures on the chalkboard good luck reading or hearing anything he writes or says. He puts all of his notes online though- read them! or print them and bring to class and do hw. The tests are easy.
Very unhelpful teacher. With thick language. Don't take him. Material explaine unclear.
Geveci teaches the class as if the students already know the information...obviously, it's not the case, which makes learning from Geveci very difficult...he doesn't answer your questions very well and well has an accent that takes time to get used to...still possible to get an "A" just do the hw...
THOUGH HE IS UNCLEAR TECHER BUT HIS CLASS IS EASY. IF YOU DO THE HOMEWORK IN THE WORKSHEET YOU CAN GET AN A OR B IN THE CLASS. THE LECTURE IS BORING BUT DO GO TO THE SESSION.AND STUDY WITH A GROUP.
i was expecting to get a d+ c-, i ended up getting a B-. No matter how hard this teacher is, just realize the other math 151 teachers suck even worse. Personally i really liked this guy because he's wierd and very entertaining to watch him talk to himself
Got a C, my average was about 54%. Crap teacher, but makes up for it with a low curve. The cheese sandwich I had for lunch would make a better teacher than he. I am not ready for Calc III at all.
Worst math teacher I have ever had. Thick accent making it very dificult to understand. You will learn nothing from lectures. Tries to rewrite the book so you end up doing 2 sets of homework, the book and his own notes. Tests are illogical for material.
the worst math teacher I ever had, I had to go with tutors to be able to undestand the material. the good thing is that he curves and that he replaces your lower test score with the score on the final if you do better on the final.
Like everyone else said, the average for each test was about 50% and he does not help you out that much as far as teaching goes. Even if you know the subject well dont waste your time with this teacher.
Don't take him he will fail you
Don't take him
Considering that Perri isn't here anymore, I thought this professor was good. W/ Perri I had a tutor and still got a C, w/ Geveci, I had a tutor and also got a C. So I guess he's good a teacher as was "really good" Teacher Perri Gill.
GET OUT!! GET OUT!! CRASH ANOTHER TEACHER!! you cant read his writing! you can understand his accent! he makes u feel like an idiot when you ask a question! i survived cuz i got a tutor and my TA, Jake T., was very helpful in his office hours! i busted my ass really really hard and barely passed!
Terrible, I stopped going 1/3 of the way through the semester. I received an 18/100 on the first midterm and an 15/100 on the second midterm. GET OUT! Enough said.
Dear god I hate this class, and I HAVE to take him again. Lord help me.
I used to think i was good at math before this f*cker...now i'm reconsidering my major...i'm taking it again....there was no way i even came close to passing the class...along with like half the class that failed hard...
He's the worst teacher ever. DO NOT TAKE HIM! He's a bit confusing and has an accent which only confuses you more. The TA was no help either. You might as well teach yourself the material from the book.
I thought he was good- he knows what he's talking about, and is enthusiastic about what he's teaching, the accent is a little hard to understand, but he has all his class notes typed up online. The tests are easy, very straighforward.
Geveci knows what he is talking about. Sometimes he wanders a bit in lecture, and the accent is hard to understand at first, but overall, if you actually try in the class, you won't do as bad as others say. It will take effort, but you'll actuall know the math by the end insead of faking it all.
Another instructor that knows what he's doing, but tends to go off on a tangent during lectures. He doesn't keep the class interested, and loses you easily. Take at your own risk...

thank god for the TA (Alina). she made concepts very easy to understand. geveci can be real confusing sometimes, and his lectures should only be used to introduce you to the concepts. go to the TA sessions, do the hw and you should be fine.

This gut is really boring and his tests are hard. Must do the homework to understand test because you will get nothing out of the lectures.
Very good professor. Bright and very slick sometimes. Learn lots, but practice is essencial to passing. Would recommend to anyone who is willing to PRACTICE problems.
His lectures are extremely BORING. He just go by the book and still make some mistakes in the proof. It's okie to make mistakes but as a prof. he should minimize the errors. I think he should put more time in research on how to teach this course. However on the good side, HWs are do able and tests are not that bad.
This prof. need some revision on his teach skill. Lectures are unclear. Just stick to the note and don't bother buy the book.
Whatever you do, don't take him. If he's not going to retire, maybe if nobody takes his courses, they might retire him. Unfortunately, I think he's the Math president of the department or something like that. I didn't learn anything from lecture and he takes attendence which counts towards grade, so I had no choice but to go to class.
I think this guy is great. His homework isn't too hard and it has a sufficient amount of influence on the grade. His tests are based on problems he had written on the board. And for those of you complaining about mandatory attendnace AND low grades, I stongly suggest you go to class because perhaps there is a correlation between the two!
STAY AWAY from this Prof even for those who love math. I think someone say that they learn more from a TA than the lecture.
Exams are okie but it based on how much you can memorized. This is good news for those of you who like to use note card or write until you remember it. Lectures are boring, Hw are somewhat tough. Take someone else if you have choice. Good Luck!
he is the worst professor ever. Grumpy old professor from another country who must retire immediately.
HORRIBLE TEACHER!!!! I LEARNED MORE FROM THE TA THAN FROM HIM. STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!!!

he sucks! don't take this class with him because you will have to learn it on your own! He has a terrible accent and I JUST HATED THAT CLASS.
He is very boring and it is painful to sit through his class but the class is easy. He can't teach but the TA ROCKS! The problems he gives on tests are the "easy" question from the Stewart book. He lets you drop a test. Very easy A but you wont learn much. Take only if this is your last math course. The class can convince to delay the test day
Just stay away from this guy. He will teach you nothing.
Please, for your own sake, DON'T take any classes with this man as your professor! For the love of God, save yourselves! But seriously... you if you can avoid him try your best to.
Yes, this teacher is a bad at teaching, but usually his T.A. clariflies material before the quizes and tests. Although, his teaching abilities aren't great; he is really efficient in using blackboard to post assignments, grades, and quizes.
Good class if you're willing to work and pay attention. Never touched the book, just did the homework and came to every class. Bases his lectures on formulas and proofs, as long as you take some time to unerstand them you'll be just fine, got a fairly easy A.
he is a very smart teacher but is difficult to understand. You NEED to do the homeworks to do well in the class. His lectures are not always helpful, but the class is easy. compared with menagus, he is much easier, but much more boring. and STUDY for the final! i had an a til the very end and i ended up with a b. :(
Taught the course from an "electronic book" that he placed on Blackboard. Pretty reasonable professor, just stay on top of the homework and study the material very carefully.
i honestly think geveci is one of the best professors at state. he is misunderstood bc most students just want the grade. he is a genious and is excited to help students who ask for it. go to office hours and he will help you all day if you need it. ive had him for 4 different math classes at state and his passion for math is inspiring.
Class is really easy, but he presents the material in a really awful manner. He badmouths all calculus texts because he is bitter about not having his own book published. He is willing to help in office hours, but I find it easier to ignore him altogether and learn material from a quality text and not his notes or lecture. Really nice man.
He was probably the worst math teacher i have ever had. I could barely understand him in class. He sounded like he was mumbling all the time, probably because he doesn't speak english very well. The text book he uses is useless and hard to comprehend, i ended up buying the normal calculus book that every other professor uses. He is nice though
class average was about 60%, you need to study hard to get an A, homework is not mandatory but it helps (test questions are similar to homework), takes attendance randomly, he uses a lot of big words and mathematical diction so he's a little hard to understand. If you manage to get an A, you will know everything you need to move up to higher math.
A nice teacher but hard to understand, you will have to sit up in front. There is no homework to turn in but you need to do it if you want to pass.
Great professor. Homework assigned but never due. Tests are the same as homework just with different numbers. Easy A.
I like this guy. He uses blackboard a lot which made things easier. Prints his own book which is about a hundred bucks cheaper than the one the other profs use and is a lot more straightforward. Calc III was tough but I took the final half-**** from the night before and got a 95% on it. If you do EVERY homework problem this stuff makes sense.
Please. I went to class everday, studied an hour or two a day had a tutor. and still failed and i like math alot. If you can try to stay away from this class
this professor is one of THE hardest professors to understand... if you want to learn calculus don't take his class. 80% of my class failed because he is not helpful at all and plays favorites.
Extremely knowledgeable and precise in what he expects from students. Exams are curved to the class average and you get a freebie. Pay attention, do the suggested homework and ye shall receive a fair grade.
Very good teacher if you share a passion for math. Regardless of accent, the man is brilliant and if you come to class and actually pay attention you will get it because he explains everything in great detail and he repeats things a lot for extra clarity. Do the HW even though it's never due because the tests are questions from the HW
This class was really hard and he was very difficult to understand, teaches as though we already know the material
Dunster and kirck*** are a thousand times better than this teacher.if u see contradictory reviews is because the teacher rates himself. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT HE IS TEACHING. going to lectures is useless. OPEN THE BOOK AND TEACH YOURSELF. Lectures are useless. Students have a hard time following what he says and what he writes in the board.
PROS: you can pass this class by just going over practice exams they are pretty much the same as the real test. I am taking 19 units I pretty much ignore this class. CONS: I Know how to do the steps but I do not understand why i am doing that. I wish we could turn in homework for credit or extra credit.
Going to lectures is pointless. He's really hard to understand and writes horribly. I learned from doing the homeworks. If Lyons is the TA though, he's really good at making the concepts much easier!
Boring and completely useless...I'm going to that class just to make sure I dont miss quizes...cant say about his teaching much because either I've fallen asleep or cant hear what he mumbles...his writing is HORRIBLE!!!if you somehow manage to hear what he says and understand few of the charachters written on board then you can understand it
I took this class almost 2 years ago, and just happened across this page in looking for geveci's website. he essentially reads his slides, which come from the book, they are well written and accurately represent the material. As for the comments saying something to the effect of "i relied primarily on the book", hey genius, geveci wrote the book!
Coming from someone who enjoys math he makes it hard to comprehend the subject and his command of the english language. 3 tests only, dont miss more than 5 classes. The t.a. sessions are the only thing tht help. Lectures are all totally reserved for going over worthless proofs and it's straight out of his own book which i regret buying. TAKE BROCK
I thought his book was absolutely ingenious. Although I've heard many negative things from other students, if you take him, you need to understand that Geveci is making it a million times easier for students because he is using a textbook he wrote.
Honestly a good professor. Dont need the book unless you dont go to class. Examples he does in class are the same from the book. Just do the homework over and over since he give you the solutions. Tests questions are straight from the HW.
Intelligent, but difficult to understand. Best way to learn is from the book/ask questions after class. Doesnt take time during class to answer questions. Heavy accent, you may get used to it, most dont. Do 1/2 the problems in the book you will pass exams barely. Difficult to understand concepts presented because of speed. Random attendance record.
Had him for Calculus III. People who rated him low pretty much suck at life. Do the homework (he even provide solutions to problems). Go to discussion section with the TAs, and understand the homework. Doing well on the homework leads to an A on the test. It's so basic.
His teaching style is terrible and he has a heavy accent. He makes math extremely boring and semi impossible to learn. I dont pay so much to go to class and only learn from the book and TA. He is the professor he should learn how to teach.
I Took him for Calculus III. All of you who rates very low to Geveci must suck in life!!! He provides problems for the exam and even provides solutions to problems. TA Lyon is very understandable, and although Geveci has a heavy accent, I did well. No reason for low rating and if you do, go to community college or something!!!
One of the easiest classes I have ever had. However, you must be able to learn on your own. He speaks over your head but you can easily learn from his text or YouTube. His practice exams are exactly like the exams. He tells you the exact problems that are on the exams. Attend class, plug in the ipod or laptop, teach yourself. Guaranteed Pass.
I must say since being at San Diego State I haven't left comment here mainly because I'm lazy but I must comment about this professor. He is one of the best math professors you will have. He is very nice helpful, and encouraging. If you show a willingness to learn you will love his class. His tests are super easy.
You must teach yourself. Learn from the textbook. The solutions manual is posted on Bb. His text is easy to learn from. The text is easy. Agreed you learn nothing from class, but bring your laptop, ipod or other HW to do. The practice exams are exactly like the exams. get A's on the first two exams, practice the HW. They curve in the end anyways.
Class is hard, lectures are boring. Required to memorize 15-25 proofs, ~10 definitions and understand how to solve the homework problems per exam (2 midterms and final). 6 homework assignments for semester that take significant amount of time. Tests are very reflective of study guide, just spit out proofs and hope you can solve the applied problems
He is dreadfully difficult to understand. If you've never taken calc III, it may be challenging. All in all though, it was a fairly easy class to pass considering all the tests are made up of homework problems and you're given the solutions to them.
He is almost impossible to understand, but all you need to do in order to easily pass the class is the homework. Go over the homework and go over the homework solutions and you will be fine on the exams. Your only grades for the class are exams.
As a first time freshman, I finally got the feeling of having a college professor having a tough accent. Bad handwriting, sometimes goes over random stuff. All I did is go over the textbook and some of the questions were related to the exam. I got an "A-" but felt like I just taught myself.
Geveci teaches right from the book he wrote and most "examples" he does in class is just showing the PDF file. I got used to his accent so that wasn't a problem. His handwriting was pretty bad. No mandatory attendance and no graded homework. If the budget ever gets better so there is more than 1 calc 3 teacher, I would recommend the other guy.
If you have a good foundation in calc 1 and 2 then you should be fine. I took this class after not taking a math class for 3 years and did fine. I didn't show up to class except for the tests and still got an A. My advice is go to small section and the night before the test pop a 20 mil and you should be fine.
Worst professor I've ever had. Lectures full of non-legible hand writing and mumbling. Have fun.
The class is not too bad, but don't expect any of his lectures to be helpful. At all. If you have the option, take this class with a different professor.
Literally the worst professor I have ever had. I got a 5 on my AP calculus test and an A in Math 151 with Kirshvink, so I know it's not that I'm incapable of learning calculus. If you want somebody to just read you the text book, then Geveci is the professor for you. If not, take somebody else.
The professor does proofs and that is why it is different than the actual math problems. I think the problem is that he just has a very thick accent and bad handwriting. If you want an A, just practice the problems in the book a lot. The class curves too.
Almost impossible to understand, after a while you learn to decipher him though. The only way I passed was because my tutor taught me everything. As long as you do the work you'll be fine, you don't need to go to class. Try to avoid him if you can.
Barely understandable, rambling lectures that you would be advised not to attend. Prone to fits of anger when you ask him for help or clarification. An excellent textbook, let's be clear, which he waives the royalties for so it's affordable. He just isn't a good teacher, and that combined with dubious grading policies means you should avoid him.
Professor Geveci is extremely efficient! It only takes him about 30 seconds to prompt you to ask yourself why you went to class! He is overjoyed to make his test extremely hard yet not curve the class. He enjoys your company so much that he fails half the class just so he can enjoy another semester with you. Don't ever change Geveci. your awesome
Avoid Geveci like the plague. He can't speak clearly, is really old so he is hard to understand, and he literally reads the book to you. I have gone to class, and every time I go, there are about 20 people that actually bother to show, and even then, they aren't paying attention. I would say take the class with a different professor to be safe.
The professor is absolutely terrible at teaching. Very hard to follow and hard to be engaged in lecture. Don't bother going to class, just study from the book itself. I learned an entire semester in one night thanks to the book. Worst professor I've taken at SDSU. Worst part is, you MUST take this class and he's the only one that teaches MATH252.
Class was useless to attend. His lectures consist of going over the book which he wrote so it is full of mistakes and makes no sense whatsoever. Grade consist of 3 midterms and a final. Test are mildly difficult if you go over the practice exam multiple times. Going to the break out sections was my only hope of passing the class.
Don't bother going to class. You will get nothing out of it. Only go to the break out sessions. You will have to teach yourself everything on your own.
Not a very hard class if you go to the breakout sessions and ask questions. If you do that, you are golden.
The class is not impossible. He reads directly out of his textbook so there is no point of going to lecture. The breakaway with Daniel Lyons really helps. The tests are average due to the fact that he gives out study guides that have almost the same exact material from the test. You can teach yourself at the beginning but it gets harder at the end.
He is very helpful during office hours.
Terrible
He's honestly a terrible teacher. No one can understand his Turkish accent. Also, he likes to use big scientific words and I guess he doesn't realize that the average undergraduate isn't familiar with his terminology. But, the class is EASY. All the exams are almost exactly the same as the practice exams. Didn't go to class, got A.
Good luck. Don't go to class there useless, you have to be really good at teaching yourself otherwise don't take him you'll fail. Tests are like the practice exams and you might as well buy his book because EVERYTHING basically comes straight out of there. Avoid him at all costs (unless your already good at calc).
If you like going to lectures and not understand a word the professor says then he's your guy. His English is poor, he jumps around a lot, and you get no chance to learn. If you want to pass this class, then you might want to get multiple text books on the subject and study your ass off. Oh and also the tests have nothing to do with the hw.
Honest review. I never use this website, but I feel its important for future students to read this. If you take this professor, you must have self discipline. Lectures are useless, and you have to teach yourself calculus. It is easy during the start, but gets increasingly difficult towards the end of semester. Tests are fair though.
So basically, If you are reading this you have read the right comment pertaining to this teacher. If you go to SDSU, DO NOT, i repeat DO NOT take this professor. He is very hard to understand, he wrote his own textbook so in class he only reads out of it, and he and his TA are very difficult to get help from. I got a A in Calc2, now to barely pass.
He writes his own textbooks, and his lectures are him basically doing problems from the book. However, even if you do lug yourself to class good luck understanding his thick accent. He definitely knows what he's talking about, but doesn't really know how to translate it in a way the class can understand. Requires a LOT of self teaching. good luck
1. About no explanations. 2. when asked a question, says you should research that. 3. tough exams. 4. bad textbook written by the prof. never take it
Early on, you may become convinced class is optional. The book is his lecture notes, which he tends to just read over. However, in the later 23rds of the class, his lectures become a lot clearer and he spends a lot more time at the board. Plus, he clarifies what can be dense reading. I was initially very opposed to the class but I did learn a lot.
Tunc mumbles inaudibly, reads his textbook that he wrote to the class instead of teaching math. His classes are just proofreading sessions for his self published book which sucks. He should be fired immediately. I learned nothing about Calculus from Geveci, I don't think I understood one word he mumbled all semester.
Tunc Geveci is a terrible professor, I won't take that away from him. But compared to any other professor teaching calculus I would take this one every time! The curve on the class is ridiculous! Wrote his own book, gives practice exams on blackboard. If you do the practice exams a few times and attend your TA session, you should get an A.
don't ever take this class
If you didn't pass this class you clearly didn't try to understand it. I went to class the first week only and just made sure I knew how to do the optional homework, the online homework, and the study guide. The study guide is exactly like the test (giving you no excuse to fail) I got a 75% for my final grade, which was an A. To get a C was a 40%..
If you take this class you're basically signing up to teach yourself calculus. Lectures are pretty much useless. He's old and has a thick accent making him hard to understand, plus he uses complex mathematical notation without explaining it (he also wrote the book & its the same) Tests are bearable because he posts sample tests. Pray for a good TA
Buy the textbook, do the problems in the textbook in the same area that he gets his study guide questions from and you'll do fine. Get ready to teach yourself.
You must read the book in order to understand the material. He only goes over his book in class, and he does not expand much beyond what is already written.
First thing first, you need to understand that this is a challenging calculus class and therefore requires an abundant amount of effort STARTING ON DAY 1. In his lectures, he only goes over the examples from the book so make sure to do those PLUS ALL THE PROBLEMS IN THE BOOK. Keep up the pace and do the sample exams multiple times before the exam!!
Geveci may not be the best professor but he really knows this stuff (wrote his own book). Don't expect him to spoon feed you everything, you have to work hard for a good grade. 3 exams and a final, drops the lowest exam. He makes the exams based on the study guides so focus on those.
Geveci is a horrible professor. You'll end up teaching yourself everything because his teaching style is so bad. However, the tests are very similar to the study guides and problems in the book, and if you work hard enough you can get decent grades. The class also has an okay curve, too.
If I didn't have the TA, I probably wouldn't have done well. I didn't go to class after the first test because the tests are literally the study guide. I would study a day before the test and do pretty all right. He also has an awesome grading scale so I'd recommend him if you know how to teach yourself or are not afraid to go to office hours.
compared to other prof provided for the course, take geveci!! You won't have to take notes if you have the book& bring it to class. tests are similar to the practice exam. do all the homework (only assigns it for half the semester). 3 exams, 1 final, 1 dropped exam. TRY to ace the FIRST exam& you won't stress that much for the rest of the semester.
Geveci is a professor that is very knowledgeable and I respect him for that. Still, sometimes his lectures can be very confusing, but that isn't all his fault. If you want the most out of his lectures, never fall behind in the book or you will not understand Calc III. You can do it, but won't understand it. Geveci is also a very fair professor.
Don't take this class in sequence. Come back for it later and it will be a piece of cake. Homework is not collected, but just do it. I think he's past his prime. He's super old, can't hear anything, and doesn't make complete sense until you do work on your own.
He is very smart but he doesn't know how to teach a room full of students. His lectures only consisted of reading the textbook to the class. He wrote his own book, there is errors on almost every other page. He doesn't curve but he set the grade percentages slightly lower. Would not suggest unless can teach yourself and are willing to work hard.
The lectures are not helpful, you will learn much more practicing problems and understanding mechanics that way; I mean, really, he reads off his book (with typos). Student questions brushed off to the side. So no one attends his lectures, and then it seems because of that he's merciless and won't curve or drop a test. Averages are low as heck too.
There's no homework or participation points. Everything is based on tests and good luck trying to understand him. You will have to teach yourself because he's not great at explanations. Also, try to find his book online, it has many typos but if you have it, it'll help you understand what you need to know for tests.
This semester grades were based off grades only. No homework or quizzes. Reason is because no one attended his boring and unproductive lectures and Tunc got upset. Midterm grades were 60MT1, 50MT2, 70%MT3. Overall just read the book and practice A LOT. My favorite memory was when he emailed the class after a MT to point out a typo on his exam.
He would read directly from the book he read or write an example on the board then end up saying something was wrong and to stick with the book. During lecture someone asked a question, he turned to the screen and continued to read from his book. The tests are mostly memorization of the proofs and definitions. He does provide a study guide.
This class is a tough class but it is not because of the professor. Calc 3 is a tough class. period. Geveci doesn't get enough credit and is constantly criticized for his teaching, however if you are good at teaching yourself you will get an A in the course. Exams are PARALLEL to practice exams. 3 midterms and a final. clear grading. I RECOMMEND
He knows his math. Teach yourself. Tough grader. Hwk assigned but not graded, grade based entirely on 3 exams at 22% each and 1 final at 34%, UCSD summer math is similar. Teach yourself or fail. For testing.... no calculator, brief notes on unit circle stuff provided, YOU need to memorize a bunch of other unnecessary references. Don't take!
Terrible professor. Created his own textbook, based on his own teaching experience, but it contains multiple typos and inconsistencies. Lectures are boring and incomprehensible. His accent and old age are key factors in how bad he teaches. You're better off with another teacher, or teaching yourself throughout the semester.
He is really knowledgeable, but he lectures terribly; the lectures are not structured and hard to follow. I started to not even go to the lectures and only to the problem sessions and still passed. He started taking attendance in the middle of the semester and gave 5 EC points to whoever did not miss more than two lectures.
Easy class. Do homework problems and the practice exams he posts on Blackboard. The exams are nearly identical to both of those.
Lectures did not help. You will have to teach yourself. His exams are almost the same as his practice exams and problems in his book. No surprises. Study all the problems in the book that he assigns and you will pass. You will have to put in work but all the problems are pretty straightforward. Got an A- and math is not my strongest area. Good luck
Geveci is really knowledgeable when it comes to math, he definitely knows his stuff. The problem with this is he goes through everything very quickly and with very little explanation of the basic concepts-- you need to be ready to teach yourself because of this, although his (free) book is pretty decent, and he gives you the solutions.
Geveci is the worst professor I've ever had at SDSU. As a math major, most classes are extremely challenging but still fair, except this one. Nothing he says in lecture is relevant to the class, and often makes things more confusing. Get ready to teach this entire subject to yourself, including memorizing countless 3-page proofs for tests. Avoid!!
No homework. 5% extra credit if you miss no more than 3 lectures. He knows the material, but lectures are NOT helpful. His test outlines are extremely useful as they are very similar to tests. Memorization of some proofs required. Given free textbook with solution manual. Study the outlines, attend problem section with TA and you will be well off.
You're doing the same thing the whole semester: epsilon delta proofs. Honestly, Geveci should have failed half of the class. He was generous with grading, with points, and with problems. So it isn't hard, but the class is painful in other ways. I felt like the class was extremely rigid. Also he wants you to buy his textbook.
Most Boring and annoying Professor I have ever Had , Doesn't Responde to e-mails , tough grader , I don't think he understands what he is teaching , if he was the only math professor left in the world , I would prefer to stay uneducated. Geveci is the worset professor in human history.
Easy Class. Terrible Teacher. He is the single worst teacher I have ever had. Don't bother going to his lectures they're just a waste of time. Make sure to always to to the TA session once a week. You'll have to teach basically everything to yourself but it is do-able. Make sure to do the practice tests
I took Geveci for MATH 252, don't take him. His accent is extremely thick and I did not learn a thing in his large lecture. His class is basically a self-study class but the only good thing about it is that the problems in his textbook contain the exact problems that are going to be on the exam!
