Very nice teacher from the great state of North Carolina. He talk a lot about unrelated anatomy subjects, but he is a good teacher. If you read the book you will do fine.
He is an outstanding teacher, Makes the class fun and exciting but still teaches you the knowledge you need to know!
Coggins is a fair grader and give comprehensive exams. In lab. you have to know the skull inside out. Questions that he asks are often critical thinking in lecture and lab. "You see it , you know it, you name it, (wait for the beep),go to the next o
Great professor. His tests are cumulative, which is great because you need a strong foundation in 2070 to do well in 2080.
i had a hard time in this class. but i realized that i did learn a lot of the material after the class was over.
GREAT TEACHER!!!
I had Brother Coggins for Anatomy and Nutrition and while I found the material hard he made it very clear. He was available for extra help and goes above and beyond to help his students succeed. The college could use a few more professors like him.
Brother Coggins is a good teacher, his knowledge of the human body can be a little intimidating, but as long as you do the work you'll get the grade.
I took his Anatomy I class for science credit. But I'm a criminal justice major. I had to drop the class after two tests, but he called me at my home afterwards to see what the matter was. He was so nice and so funny! I wish he could teach all of my other classes, I just sucked at anatomy!!!!!!!!!!!
Brother Coggins is AWESOME!!
Great teacher. Even has his old practice exams in the library for you

Great Prof. explains things well, pay attention during the lectures, quizzes are not bad..exams are not bad, not bad means, if you pay attention in lectures, you should be ok.
Very nice test are a little difficult make sure u study and take notes!!! Great teacher though!
great teacher
Coggins is great! He's very personable & funny! As long as you do the required reading/studying you'll be fine! I had him for bio2070 lecture & lab. He seems a little scatter brain, but he knows his stuff!
Class time not sufficient to cover the material, lots of reading outside of class that is best done before the lecture so that you can keep up, Brother Coggins goes very fast. Testing is on all material, covered in class and text book. Lab is very comprehensive, utilize the tutor and the materials in the LR. Form study group and help each other.
Great Teacher, If you listen and take notes, your guaranteed a good grade! hes very funny, nice guy. would definitely reccomend him!
Easily sidetracked in class. Don't necessarily learn everything you should for the test in class. Must do the reading before class and study a lot outside of class.
Brother Coggins is a GREAT teacher. He's deffinately tough, but if you work hard, and he sees you trying you will do well. He does talk fast sometimes, but when he does that he is only trying to give you an idea of the material. Pay attention when he repeats things, those are always tested. ALWAYS bonus points to be earned, take advantage of it!
Both lecture and lab were challanging, but I got my money's worth and then some. Ask questions and try not to miss any classes and by all means learn the skull and those cranial nerves! Bro. Coggins will go out of his way to help you if you want to really learn the material.
Coggins is passionate about anatomy but an extremely difficult teacher to follow. He is unorganized, doesn't respond to emails in timey manner and never follows the syllabus. You never know whats coming and it's unsettling. His quizzes are easy with bonus points as well. I don't recommend him unless you can teach yourself.
He's a really nice person but his lessons can be difficult to grasp. He does not really use the book so it is very difficult to study for his exams. He also do not even choose to provide a study guide or at least a paper that gives bullet points of the topics that will be in his tests for you to study.
I really liked Brother Coggins and would recommend him to anyone who wants to get a good grasp of human anatomy. He knows his material well, requires a lot of student input and will ask you questions during class. Knows the names of his students and a little bit about each of them. Really funny too!! Study hard tho cuz the class is tough!
Very hard! I would call this another lecture class, we only did one lab and the rest sat and watched him point with a mouse and say what it is. Test are impossible.
He is very unclear throughout his lessons. You leave class trying to figure out what you are supposed to know. However, he means well and will help you. He is a very nice professor, just a bit unorganized.
Bro. Coggins is AWESOME!! He's funny and makes the class interesting. He gives MORE than enough opportunities for extra credit and is always available for help outside of class. He wants his students to do well and is extremely intellegent. He really knows his stuff and if you take him you'll get a firm grasp of anatomy and physiology.
Very fun and educational class. Great personality in a teacher. He was made for this job. Thanks for a great class!
hardest class ever. I do not reccomend him, he does not teach the material. He pretty much asks you to memorize the whole book. tests are very hard. Hes a very nice teacher though, by ways of helping im not sure that he really helps, he just says he has faith in us.
I had Bro. Coggins for 2070 lec and lab. I wish he was teaching 2080. He is very difficult and you have to work hard, but if you study and he sees your trying he will definitely help you out. He's very funny and makes anatomy interesting. He definitely knows his stuff!
Prof Coggins was really great and made A&P really interesting. He really knows his stuff but you have to study, listen to him and keep up with the reading. I would definately recommend him and wish he taught BIO 2080 too.
JUMP START TO THE BRAIN, that is what he does. i was so stressed the entire semester - ask my husband. you sit down to study & you don't know where to begin. i say he is 'great', i survived, you will to.
First, Bro. Coggins is very funny! He's a good teacher but you need to study a lot! His test: lecture exams (multiple choice)are so hard and very confusing. On lab, you need to memorize all things he discussed. Lab exams are usually 50 items identification with extra credit which are not related to the subject. It's hard but you will learn a lot.
Brother Coggins was challenging, but you will come away from lab with an entire brain of knowledge. Exams were hard, but easily passable. Study hard, learn muscles & know cranial nerves & skull! Take pictures and study them for the exams and you will do fine. Wish he taught 2080. I will miss his class. Enjoyed hearing Mrs C & family stories!
Be prepared to work! Get with a group and don't try to cram (it is a waste of time). Coggins won't spoon feed you but he'll go out of his way to help if you are serious about the course. Lab was intense but fun. He likes math. Work hard ask questions and never ever think about being dishonest.
LOVED HIM!!! Brother Coggins is incredible!!!! Take his class!!
Great teacher! he knows absolutely everything about anatomy! hes a genius and he is VERY personable. dont take his class lightly though, its definitely a tough one. but you'll learn a lot and push yourself academically.
One of the best Bio teachers at CSM! Very helpful, knowledgable about A&P. Study up on cranial nerves, foramina of the skull, & muscles if you want to succeed in his class.
He is an excellent professor. The best biology teacher I have ever had! Brother Coggins course is intense, but you will appreciate it in the end. He's always willing to help! Study cranial nerves, muscles (insertions & origins) & the skull! Try to get in his lab,as well. Take plenty of pics in lab. Ask questions, if you don't understand!
Brother Coggins is a wonderful professor and mentor! His class is difficult, time consuming, and at times frustrating but mainly because he makes you think and work for your grade. I earned an A in his class because I took his advice to really learn the material and find a strong study group! You'll do great if you want to!
Best professor ever!!!! Makes Biology understandble- even though intense studying is required. Very fair and extremely knowledgeable:)
Great guy! Great teacher too. He has an excellent understanding of the material. Sometimes his assignments could use some additional clearity.
Brother Coggins is one of the BEST professors I have ever had! Anatomy is tedious and is a lot of memorization, his personality and teaching style made every lab and lecture a great experience. We are one big family in his classes. I really wish he was teaching 2080
Brother Coggins is a WONDERFUL professor. He is very helpful and all in all a good professor.
Brother Coggins, Is a good but hard professor. He really makes you work for your grade. But he is helpful with any questions that you have. He treats everyone in the class like family and makes it for a fun environment. But make sure you study study study!!! There is alot to know in 2070. I love how he sets his lab exams up go so smoothly!!
Had him for lecture and lab. Awesome professor, highly recommend, makes class fun. Lots of memorization so be prepared to STUDY.
Outstanding teacher. I highly recommend him. His exams are tough but he is a very fair grader. Also gives plenty of opportunities for extra credit. He makes class very enjoyable.
Great Teacher! This is college so be prepared to put in a lot of memorizing for this class. Professor Coggins makes class fun with stories and jokes. Class is more like a conversation rather than just him lecturing. He finds away to include everyone.
Prof. Coggins is the best! His class was fun and I learned a lot. I had him for both lec & lab. Just be up to speed on the material before class and study.
Professor Coggins is a good teacher if you want a good laugh. He teacher off of a CD which is boring. He also rambles off talking about other things....His test are extremely hard and Id advise to study really hard if you want to pass.
I never knew what it was we supposed to study because he talked mostly about himself.
He's an amazing teacher. Loved lab and lecture.
Brother Coggins is an awesome teacher! yes he is hard and he can get off topic but he is great! You just have to STUDY anatomy is alot of memorizaton, Also I went to the tutor alot and that helped as well!
Brother Coggins is VERY nice but very unorganized, gets off topic very easy and you MUST staudy in this course.
Brother Coggins is a professor that I will always remember and look up to. I am now a Veterinarian and his teachings helped guide me through Veterinary college and in my career.
Brother Coggins was definitely a character, a very funny guy and made class interesting with his little side stories and comments. I really enjoyed his class, but if you want to pass you HAVE to study, especially in lab... He really does want his students to succeed, so if you give him the effort to learn he'll help you pass!
great man and he cares about his students, but i had to self teach myself the entire semester. His lab was easy if you studied. His lecture was terrible. I didnt learn anything, we talked more about his personal life than biology. He didnt tell you what to study he just said read the book. I did at least 7 hours of studying each night to get a B
His class is very challenging, yet rewarding. I took it earlier this summer and I can still recite the muscles, bones, and brain. He teaches for understanding, and is very willing to help (he does it without asking). Loved the lecture, loved the lab. Absolutely recommend him to anyone, interested or not. He will make you love it!
"Brother" Coggins is a very smart man, and takes the class casually. His lectures cover a lot of important material, but can appear rushed or unplanned. His tests are tricky. But, he is a genuinely nice guy with a southern sense of humor. He cares for and believes in his students. Listen to Penny, read the text thoroughly, and form a study group.
Some people say Brother Coggins deviates from the lesson. I disagree. Everything he talks about in class is related to the subject matter and teaches life lessons. He cares about his students. Very intelligent man. He expects excellence from his students. I would take another one of his classes if I could. If you miss class you miss a lot.
"brother" coggins is not for everyone. He talks ways to fast and is always off task. On the test he'll ask questions you did not go over in class. I took his class for both lecture and lab. If another teacher is open i'd go take that instead.
Brother Coggins is a great teacher. So glad I took 2070 with him. A little scary for 1st test when you realize he does not give a study guide or follow the book closely, but expects his students to have read the material and will test on it. I learned so much from him. Listen to Penny and ask questions. He gives extra "easy" questions on tests.
Coggins was such a fun teacher. I had him for lab and got out of it with a high B. It's a lot of memorization so you have to study but that comes with any anatomy class. He's there to help in any way possible and he expects you to know your material and will call on you in class to answer questions. i still memorize everything he taught me!
I truly enjoyed Brother Coggins as a person. He was a lot of fun, lots of energy, and always able to make me smile. However, my opinion of Brother Coggins as a professor, not that great. I choose to take A&P in class, not online, as I need the one on one interaction to follow. Brother Coggins was off subject a lot, sharing personal stories
His tests are hard and he throws curveball questions that you really have to pay attention to, and a couple unrelated questions (not to mention they are timed tests). He is willing to help and he's a very smart man, but Anatomy and Physiology is hard enough on its own without the curveballs and "tricks" he tries to throw in.
I have taken a&p in the past but CSM did not accept my credits. Compared to my previous professor Coggins was much worse. His teaching style was all over the place, the syllabus did not have any due dates. We never knew when our tests and quizzes were. He never fully explained assignments. Very nice man, not a good teacher
2070L has been one of the most difficult bio classes I have taken so far. There is so much material to cover it almost seems impossible. Brother Coggins was one of the best teachers I have had so far and as difficult as his class was it really prepared me for 2080. You have to study and attend every class. He was always easy to get along with.
His class is difficult. He only gives test and maybe one other assignment but he is a nice guy. You have to study a lot. I don't think he explains it simple enough to understand but he knows what he is talking about. He also tends to get off topic easily.
Brother Coggins is entertaining, he's funny and is able to relate Biology to real life. The class material does jump around but class is enjoyable. If you don't read or study on your own, you will not get the grade you want. This is not a freebie. Show up to class, participate, take notes and you should be fine. 4 exams, 4 quizes+ extra credit
Alright... so I took this Professor because he had the best reviews out of all the A&P professors. I have had previous experience with Anatomy and that is the main reason I'm doing decent in the course. He is a very nice guy, but everything is SELF taught, and he does go off topic very often. Prepare to teach yourself in all honesty.
BIO2070 lab; definitely needed to go to tutoring to pass, but my class only met once a week. Great guy, personable, sense of humor, and KNOWS HIS STUFF. Don't bother asking "do we need to know..." because he will also say yes even if it's not on the test. Use the lab guide to know what to study instead of asking. Hard class, great teacher.
Brother Coggins is definitely one of the best teachers at CSM that Ive ever taken. He's super sweet and knows his stuff. The classes themselves are naturally difficult but for me he made them much easier. Do be prepared to study a lot. Especially for the lab exams. And don't be afraid to ask him questions, or to clarify something.
I took his class because everyone says hes the best. Although he is very caring and comical, this is one of the hardest classes I've had in a while. Its a self-taught class and he does not give study guides for tests. No homework, so grade relies on how well you do on tests. I got a C, and was only taking two other classes. Sugegst taking online.
If you struggle with anxiety YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE IN HIS CLASS. Coggins will make students pick a random number & then he will read your extra credit pop quiz out loud and give everyone points out based on your test. Everything is self-taught. I went to him for help & received nothing. I only have two attempts at 2070L and just wasted my money.
hes a hard professor bc you have to work for your grade but that work will stick with you
Worst teacher I have ever had, great person -- shouldn't teach in college.
I personally thought he was a great guy but, do not take this course in a minisession! You have to work for the grade. His syllabus is flexible is a serious warning.
A&P is a hard course itself so be ready to put in the work to pass the class. He gets off topic A LOT but overall he is a good guy. Take notes and read the table charts from the book. He gives us study packets for every exam but you have to find out the answer yourself. Exams are cumulative so remember material. Go to Tutoring!
Professor Coggins is a great man. He knows his stuff for sure, sweet guy, humorous, and cares about his students' opinions. He does go on tangents though. If you want to do well in class, don't skip, READ your book, and GO TO TUTORING for lab! Items for quizzes and exercises (tests) are usually more than the total, so that's extra credit.
Overall I would recommend taking this professor. His exams are really advanced, the class is very fast paced and he makes you work for your grade. He has a great personality but he gets off track a lot so therefore you have to self-teach outside of class. He offers extra points after every exam but be prepared to take quizzes.
Coggins is a great guy and his class isn't too hard if you apply yourself. He takes attendance so you can't skip very often. For lecture, read the book and utilize the practice questions he puts on myLearning. For lab, you will need to do a lot of self-teaching and hands-on practice outside of class and tutoring is a huge help!
Coggins is HILARIOUS and made class go by fast! I took him for BIO 2070 Lab and lecture and the classes were hard but if you really pay attention to what he says you will pass! He gives you most of the questions that are going to be on the test, you just need to listen to him because he moves on to topics pretty fast.
He's a great professor, he tells you what going to be on the tests and even gives out some questions and answers that will be on it. I only took him for the lab but wished I took him for lecture too. As long as you pay attention in the class and study you can pass this class easy.
He really cares about his students. He talks a lot about his life but he relates it back to the topic. He really knows what he is talking about. You have to read a lot. All good memories from that class.
He made what would usually be a difficult class very easy and enjoyable. Such a great teacher and person. You have to read on your own and put in extra study time for all exams. He's always there to answer questions and even stays after class sometimes. It's difficult material but he gives you all the tools needed so there is no reason to fail.
Professor Coggins knows his stuff! Most of what you're being graded on are tests & quizzes. He doesn't give homework or extra assignments so you really have to make sure you're on top of your work. You'll do a lot of at-home studying because he tends to move quickly and get off-topic. Other than that very good teacher! nice class.
Professor Coggins was a wonderful teacher. I learned a lot from him. Don't be fooled by his charm or his story gelling tactics. Have a pencil ready and listen THE ENTIRE TIME! He will throw in random elements on your quizzes and exams (ie a photo of George Washington Carver or the old radio skit "Who's on First?". He is a hard grader so prepare!
Professor Coggins is a sweet man, but I would not recommend taking his virtual class. He does not give out assignments, you will only get graded on your Exams. Overall, his virtual class is not professional and you will quickly get behind.
Hes funny and seems nice, but if you want to actually learn something, DO NOT take him. I didnt learn a thing in this class and I still got an A. He only graded a few assignments and quizzes, but they were easy. If you want an easy A, go ahead. Im taking a different teacher for lab and have learned so much more that I should have learned in lect
Prof Coggins was a great A&P teacher, know his stuff and really want you to do well and MAKES SURE you do, nothing is really a huge surprise in his class, questions on tests are like the ones he asks in class and on quizzes, he really sums up A&P really well and makes you get a really good understanding. Just remember; Listen & Pay Attention A
Horrible. Do not recommend. Wont have your grades in on time. Wont answer your questions. No structure. No organization. Makes up things as he goes. Treats the summer class as a joke because we both signed up for this. Wasting my time and money to not learn anything.
He doesn't follow his syllabus & he sprung MANY last-minute projects. He'd make us self-grade all the time so he wouldn't have! He'd get sidetracked EVERY lecture & go on rants on things not at all related to class. Wouldn't have passed if it wasn't for my classmates helping each other out. 100% make a class groupchat if you have him.
I love brother coggins!! Very helpful
Professor Coggins truly cares about his students both in and out of the classroom. Lectures are fun and he does a fantastic job connecting the subjects as you go along. Communication outside of the classroom is easy and encouraged if help is needed. Honestly, the best professor I have ever had. Excellent teaching style and peak dad jokes galore.
not a good teaching style. gets sidetracked and talks on and on about off topic stuff. does not do notes or homework. only grades are the papers and verbal tests he gives. shows picture one or two times and expect you to know all of the parts of the picture without any notes or much explaining.
He is a very knowledgeable man, but his teaching style does not work for me. Not engaging, does not break anything down very good. He makes it more complicated in my opinion. Get ready to make a study group. Only graded on quizzes and test, if your lucky 8 points worth of extra points. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND HIM IF YOU ARE A FRESHMAN.
No homework.. quizzes and exams only (for grade). He grades harshly so pay attention to detail. He is a nice man but a lot of my classmates were complaining about his teaching style.. it isnt for everyone. Get ready to study and teach yourself. I would take him again but I would have to prepare myself mentally. If you are shy, DO NOT TAKE HIM lol.
Prof. Coggins was a great teacher. I will say I had him for Nutrition not anatomy. I did well in the class, but his teaching style is not for everyone. It is very lecture heavy. He is accommodating if you are struggling. Be talkative and engaged and it will go well.
I enjoyed BIO2160 (Nutrition) although it was test heavy. Many of the quizzes were pop quizzes, but were used for attendance rather than a grade. He repeats things that are especially important, so showing up to class and participation is very important. Do not expect to get an A if you do not pay attention or show up to class.
I am surprised by the harsh reviews. He was not a harsh grader, offered a lot of extra credit options. He does like the class to be open, and everyone work together. He was very sweet and caring. He did not take off for attendance but missing a class would be hurtful to yourself. Would take his class 100 times over!
Coggins is by far one of the best professors ive encountered. Making things as easy as possible while also learning many important things for my major. Him adding a little bit of comedy to classs makes it a very enjoyable class to take and be in. He answers all questions and makes sure you understand.I highly recommend coggins if you need Anatomy!
