TERRIBLE! He is very confusing and goes very fast. His tests are hard, and he doesn't grade clearly. He doesn't explain problems, he just expects you to do them. DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!
This professor is horrible! he goes through everything extremely fast, and expects you to be able to review 5 chapters in 2 days and understand it perfectly, and his tests are super hard! DO NOT TAKE HIM.
Do not take this teacher! He goes very fast his quizzes are about three to four problems worth 50 points and the problems on tests and quizzes are not talked about in class or in the homework. Take someone else!!
Do not take this professor unless you absolutely have to. His expectations are outlandish and his tests and quizzes are incredibly stressful. It's difficult to even study for his class because, the questions on the quizzes aren't like the homework or are based on topics that were discussed for little to no length.
I am kind of shocked at the bad reviews for him. I really enjoyed his class. He let us retake a quiz, he is dropping 4 of our lowest quiz scores and is letting one test score take the place of our other "bad" test score. He does go kind of fast but he will stop and explain if you ask him to. You really do have to pay attention
This professor is not as bad as the reviews make him out to be. He's always willing to give help outside of class and has plenty of office hours. Quizzes and tests can be challenging, but they aren't outrageous. Quizzes do include some questions directly out of lecture notes, and he drops the lowest few quizzes. I'd probably take him again.
This professor is very hard but he is willing to help you outside of class. He has a lot of compassion towards what he does however tests and quizzes are extremely hard! Work extremely hard if you wanna do well, and be willing to talk to him because he is really funny once you get to know him. STUDY REALLY HARD if you wanna do good in this class.
He can get a little tricky with the quizzes and tests because he will give problems you haven't seen before, but they do focus on the same concept. Ratings at the beginning of the semester were harsh because he was kind of mean right away, but he warmed up and ended up being a pretty cool teacher. Have to study a lot for an A but I'd recommend him.
Take any other professor if possible. While he is, for the most part, interesting to listen to, his expectations are crazy and the quizzes and tests incredibly hard to study for. The amount of proofs he did was ridiculous, could have spent more time teaching solving methods.
The first two weeks were hard, but I never took any precalculus in high school. There are three exams and a quiz most every week. All material is cumulative. He adapted well to the needs if the class and dropped some quiz scores. He is a nice guy and his office hours are very helpful.
50 point quizzes are ridiculous. Very hard to study for the quizzes because they were usually 4 questions that are randomly picked from the semester. Would not recommend.
I took him for Precalc and am in his Calc I class right now. His quizzes and tests are difficult, but they are still do-able. He is more than willing to explain things in class and has plenty of office hours. He is passionate about math and I personally enjoy his classes. I would recommend him if you don't mind doing a bit of work.
Easily one of the best professors I've had. Though his courses may be somewhat more challenging than others, he delves into the meaning behind the mathematics rather than simply taking a systematic/purely mechanical approach. He'll try to make you see why the math works rather than simply how.
Great professor, he is very precise and clear in his steps which makes it easy to understands. He provided a great basis for understanding calculous, I highly recommend him!
Das was one of my favorite professors, he is the nicest guy and really wants to see everyone succeed. He makes things easy to understand and pushes back tests if the class doesn't feel ready for them, go to office hours they really help and are pretty fun actually :) take him, really
Very good at explaining things and will help you with anything you need, has a lot of office hours which a lot of people go to so its not as helpful as one on one would be. easy going and pushes back quizzes if you're not ready. quizzes are hard but gives good reviews to go over before hand.
Not clear or organized. As someone who breezed through pre calc in high school, I really had to put in a lot of work for this class. Tests are not easy and he will pull out random material that he does not prepare you for.
Dr. Das has been one of the most amazing Professor I have ever met! He basically has inspired me so much that I have started gaining back my interest in maths. Not only has he been inspirational towards his students but has always been there for help as much as he could.
Das gives you extra credit opportunities and pushes back quizzes if the class isn't ready, but his tests and quizzes are very challenging. There is at least one sometimes two 15pt quizzes per week. You need to put extra effort if you want to do well in his class. He is very helpful and encourages students to come to his office hours.
Good. Luck.
Dr. Das is a great guy! Very funny during class and makes jokes abut material, but expects a lot! Outside of class he expects you to put in time with the text book and teach yourself. Tests and quizzes are nearly impossible! He will give you help if needed but expect to put in 15 hours a week just to pass! GOOD LUCK!
Dr. Das was one of the best professors i have ever had. He really cares about his students and is always willing to help whenever he can. He gives you a recommended way of studying for his class, which at first may seem like a lot of work, but it is the key top passing his class. Definitely recommend him to any student taking MTH 151.
I came to UWL unsure of my desire to continue on with math, the love and respect Tushar Das has for Mathematics is what led me to becoming a Mathematics major. He is the type of professor that makes you proud to attend UWL. He will do anything for his students to exceed. TAKE HIM, WORTH THE WORK.
show up to class, follow his notes ( which are pretty damn good btw) , do homework, and you are golden. He gives quizzes every weeks which helps give feedback on how you doing in the class and is definitely helpful in office hours. AND class is not boring so take him.
Didn't like this class at all. For someone who took pre calc before this class was way to detailed for a pre calc class. He wasn't really good at explaning stuff and his quizzes were impossible. I would suggest taking someone else
Although the class was very difficult, Dr. Das made the class enjoyable. By far one of the best professors I've had at UWL.
He was very specific about the way he was going to grade our assignments. He often would meet outside of class and was extremely helpful. This was a very difficult class, but was not impossible if you really studied. Very brilliant teacher overall.
Not a fan of tests being 70% of my grade with no chance to improve your score. Also the writing projects are irrelevant. He isn't the toughest grader but he chooses very hard questions on tests which makes them very difficult. Also no real chance for extra credit would not recommend.
Dr. Das is my favorite professor at the moment. He is very fair when it comes to grading however his tests are difficult. The writing projects are a pain in the butt but overall he is light hearted and personable and a great professor.
I took pre-calc before this class, but it still was extremely hard. His notes are hard to follow, and he basically reads from the textbook. This class is more of a "self-taught" class, requiring A LOT of work. The writing projects have no point. Participation is required. He also chooses the toughest question for quizzes (timed 15 mins). Very hard.
Take Dr. Das! Hands down the best math teacher I've ever had. He's not there to lecture his notes to you but to work with you and help you learn. He is supportive of his students and wants everyone to succeed and is helpful in doing so. Do the homework problem he assigns because they are the same on exams and quizzes! He is there to help you!
Going into this course, I thought it was going to be an easy A since I had taken pre-calc in high school, but Dr. Das makes sure you are working for your grade. He is so unbelievably nice and is always willing to help you with any question you have. You can tell he is passionate about his job and genuinely cares about his students.
Dr. Das is a great teacher who really cares about his students success. I recommend him over any other math teacher. Although he makes it seem like a lot of work, he won't assign something unless it truly benefits you. So if you do everything he asks of you, then you should easily get an A in the class.
Dr. Das is a good lecturer, I enjoy going to them. However, his expectations are a bit over the top if you ask me. I don't know if he knows people have other classes/jobs to attend to, because this class is a LOT of work if you want to pass his extremely hard tests and quizzes. Be prepared to know all definitions precisely, as well proving theorems
Do NOT take! He is the worst professor I have ever had. He thinks your intelligence is based off of how well you can memorize the definitions and theorems from the book precisely. On top of the lengthy homework assignments and requiring that you read the textbook, he assigns extra work almost every class period.
Linear algebra with Dr. Das is very difficult. He tries to make expectations clear so that you can do well, but sometimes the expectations are super unrealistic. Leaves proofs to outside of class, but then tests on them. Know everything. Literally memorize the book to do well. Hours of homework a day. He is very nice and a good lecturer though.
Dr. Das is a great person and cares for his students. Office hours are strongly encouraged by him and pretty mandatory if you want to do well. He expects A LOT of outside time for his class. I would encourage students to take him as long as they have time to spend on this his class outside of the classroom.
He expects you to come to office hours, gives easy examples in class but puts the hardest version of the test question on exams, never got higher than a C on a test and refuses to give extra credit or curves. Doesn't collect homework until finals time so you need to keep up as you go along, its a lot. Grades on participation in class. Expects a lot
Dr. Das is great. He cares a lot for his students and really cares about the learning process. His class requires a lot of work, and going to his office hours is recommended, so the workload can sometimes feel like a lot. However, the questions he asked on the exam and his grading policy make this a little better in my opinion. Great professor.
He truly cares about his students, giving ways to help them learn and encouraging office hours. Expects you to go over the book before the class that he lectures it on and to start the homework. There is A LOT of book work so try to keep up on that. I always felt super prepared for the exams but then the questions were always confusing and hard.
For a general education course it was a bit much. Do not recommend if you are in other tough courses as it requires a lot of time (12 hours a week for a C),tons of homework problems assigned for each section along with very difficult quizzes and exams. Only the easy questions were shown in lecture so be prepared to teach yourself a lot of material.
Dr. Das is one of the best professors I have ever had. He truly cares about his students and their success. MTH207 is a lot of work however, but if you put in the hours you can do just fine.
Dr. Das is a great professor but doesn't seem to understand that as students, we are taking tough classes as well. Its A TON of work for this class but if you can manage doing homework basically every night to keep up, then you will do perfectly fine. Great professor, great guy, but just don't underestimate Calculus. Its tough!
Dr. Das is the best professor I have ever had. He is incredibly helpful to his students, all you have to do is ask for the help. His exams are tough, but he gives you all the tools necessary to pass. Homework is mandatory and is graded twice throughout the semester, but he gives you enough time to finish all the work and extend deadlines if asked.
Dr. Das is a super nice guy and really knows a lot about math. There's a lot of homework if you're like me and wait until the end to do it all (collects it twice over the semester). Participation matters a lot. He cares a lot about his students and is always available in office hours to help. The writing project was hard so don't put that off.
Das is a very nice guy. However he asks a lot of his students. There are summaries due weekly and lots of homework. He grades very hard and is very specific on the way he likes things done, will lose points if you have the right answer but do not follow his process to get there. No calculators allowed. Dont take unless you have a lot of time.
Dr. Das is a great guy and super smart, hes also very helpful when you ask him for help. However, he likes things to be done very specifically and his tests are very hard. I would recommend Dr. Das, but his class is a lotttt of work for a 100 level class so I would recommend not taking it if your other classes are really hard
Dr. Das is the best professor I've ever had. He gets you to really want to learn Math and is always there to help out. I had to work the hardest for this class, but then again I also learned the most from it. If I could, I would take him again.
He is a kind man, but he expects wayyyyy too much. I think he forgets that this is 100 level class. Homework is lengthy. He does all the easiest problems in class and puts the hardest ones on the exam. The weekly reflections are ridiculous and busywork. I am not going to lie... I definitely should have listened to these ratings.
Dr. Das is an amazing professor, his lectures are organized and clear. He is willing to help all of his students and wants to get to know them. Das is very understanding and wants you to succeed. He does expect a lot however it's to make you a better mathematician and student. Dr. Das wants to help you succeed I would 100% take him again.
Dr. Das is an amazing professor who has inspired me throughout the whole semester. He is actually a professor that cares about you and your success. While the class is a lot of work, it truly does prepare you for every exam. I highly recommend Dr. Das!
Dr. Das is super funny. He is very helpful. Don't be afraid to ask questions or make mistakes... You'll learn to appreciate how he helps you learn from your mistakes :) He definitely is a great professor! He made class fun! I enjoyed it!
Prof Das was my absolute favorite professor. He is so funny, extremely caring, and gives life lessons along the way. His love for math is inspirational. The lectures are very very clear and helpful. Das is very understanding and offers a few extra credit options. He goes through material fast/expects a lot but he will be there 100% of the way.
The class is challenging but manageable. Course load is rather heavy and requires a lot of work. However, he is very easily accessible for after hours for help and does care about his students.
Dr. Das was my fav prof this year. He provides wonderful feedback and is always willing to help students however he can. He doesn't give extra credit, but offers hangout hours everyday for many hours to help with anything you need. His love for math is beautiful. He is the best teacher for math, and I look forward to having him in the future. 10/10
This professor is by far the most bizarre math teacher I have ever had. He cares only about the work you show and not at all the answer you get (Jobs that use mathematics obviously don't work like this). Also he mustve liked art because 15% of our final grade was writing problems we find "beautiful" and why. And yet he still gave me a bad grade...
alot of work and forget having friends and hope
If you want to get better at math, take Dr. Das. He obviously loves his job and will go out of his way to make sure you're doing well. This class requires a lot of extra work and time, but that's what you need to do to get a good grade. Exams were fair and were worth a smaller portion of your grade than usual. By far the best professor I've had.
Dr. Das is by far one of the best professors at UWL. He definitely makes you work for your grade through lots of homework. but calc 3 is supposed to be a lot of work in the first place. He has inspired me to appreciate the beauty of math in a whole new way. If a class is taught by him. I will take it with him. regardless of how difficult it is.
Dr. Das is has been one of my favorite professors while at UW-Lax. If you are not a math or STEM major I would not recommend taking him, but if you really need to learn about the class, he is the guy to do it with. His class is hard and a lot of work, but you really do learn the concepts. Office hours are very helpful as well.
I absolutely HATE math and usually don't enjoy those classes, but Dr. Das was a great professor. Makes sure everyone has a chance to ask questions, gives many examples in class that help with homework, always understanding of students' busy schedules and will give due date extensions if you are a good student who participates regularly.
Pre-Calc was so much more difficult with him than I ever imagined. You have to do so many problems out of the book that take hours, and weekly reflections every week which he expects to be around 10 pages long and is such a harsh grader on all of them. His exams are also very difficult and you do get points for participation.
Although it was difficult I would take it again with Dr. Das. He has certain expectations and it's made clear. The key to passing is communicating with him. He is very understanding and truly cares about his students. He provides the help needed, you just have to ask for it. At the end of the day, you really have to work for your grade.
Every week we had to write a 10 page paper about "why math is beautiful" and self quizzing. No matter what we did we couldn't get full credit. Nobody ended the class with an A in a PRE-CALC course. While he is always available to communicate, he forgets we have other important things in our life to attend to. Worst professor I've ever heard of.
Dr Das is one of the best professors I have ever had; however, Calculus II is a very difficult class. Despite all the homework for the class making it feel almost like a full-time job, Dr Das's lectures are always interesting and it is clear that he cares deeply for the subject and his students.
You are expected to spend a minimum of 15 hours outside of class for this 3 credit course. No answer is worthy enough for full credit. On a recent quiz, a question asked for the definition of a term. I wrote word for word what was in the textbook and still received 2/6. He forces you to study the way he studies. Save yourself.
I am a Biochemistry major. But since Dr. Das was such an amazing teacher, I am now getting my minor in Mathematics. The people who rate Dr. Das poorly do not understand that his teaching methods are superior to all others. I have never had a better teacher. He truly raised the bar for me and I am thankful that I ever got to be in his class.
On top of homework assignments, we also had to create a journal for each assignment with self quizzes. The assignments took long, and I have past pre-calc knowledge. He made us write a minimum of 10 community point essays. He assigned a big essay final. I felt the class was busy work that was too much with 5 other classes. I would not take him!
He doesn't grade any of your homework until the end of semester but told us it would be 2-4 weeks. So, I never knew if I was on the right track. He also takes a very long time to grade tests.
Best professor I have ever had. It is true that he might take longer to grade or give us a lot of "not-math" assignments but he is very caring, gives extensions on everything all the time, and is so happy to help during class and outside of it. The course has complicated content but he will definitely help you succeed!
I feel that his courses end up being a lot of busy work. He makes his expectations extremely clear and he's very compassionate. We had to submit a journal for each section of the book we covered which ended up being 8-20+ pages long at least once a week on top of homework assignments. Make time to go to his office hours and receive feedback.
Worst teacher ever. Exams are impossible and each question is worth over 20 points each, making it hard to earn a good grade on an exam if got more than 2 questions wrong. He is a nice and caring person, but gives a quiz every week and makes you calculate your grade yourself. He does not curve at all and does not offer any make up work.
He is really sweet. He is truly passionate about math and teaching. He absolutely loves questions and actually encourages mistakes as he says they are "juicy mistakes". There is not attendance for his class but you get participation points which count to your grade. Also go to his "hangout hours" he is helpful and also just fun to be around.
The class is difficult but Dr. Das is the best professor I have had. He truly cares about his students and if you put in any effort at all you will at least receive a C. Exams are difficult but if you study for them you should do just fine. Participation points will help you so go to class, even though attendance is not mandatory.
I was not sure about how I felt about Dr. Das to begin with, but I really like him. He is very passionate about what he teaches, and he genuinely wants you to succeed. Dr. Das is super helpful and quite fun/enthusiastic. He fosters a very positive environment, and it diminishes the fear of making a mistake. Super awesome guy! Would take again!
Tries to make class as easy as possible. Wants everyone to pass. Grades participation. Knows everyone in his classes and goes out of his way to make sure anyone can do well. No calculators, but problems on exams are easy enough where they aren't needed. Takes a long time to grade and doesn't put grades in canvas. Would definitely take again.
Great professor, clear objectives, has multiple hours of availability outside of class each week to meet and answer questions. Put in a little study and he makes it easy to pass the class.
Dr. Das is super nice and cares about all of his students. He gives lots of exam "incentives" which help boost your grade. He does have some busy work and high expectations, but passing is very doable. He does yap and keeps class late almost everyday, but he's a good teacher and knows all of his students well. No calcs ever but you won't need one.
Dr. Das's lectures made the material more complicated than it needed to be. He was helpful during office hours and I would highly recommend trying to fit those into your schedule. His exams were difficult but he does offer test score replacement incentives. The majority of my class struggled all semester and the average in the final was an F.
Das's exams suck. Each question is 20+ points and only 8 questions per exam. Making exams 56% of your grade. You fail 2, no way you can come back. Pre-calc is def. not a hard class, but Das doesn't explain well. Really encourages questions to be asked but over explains. I would avoid if you can, don't stress about it.
When I went to his hangout hours, I presented a problem and he helped me work through it. He asks if anyone has questions before going to the next topic, and would take extra days, so we understand. The tests are worth a lot of points, but he replaced our lowest with our highest score. I would not take advice from people on here who despise math.
Dr Das makes class fun and he's lowkey a funny guy too. Recommend going to hangout hours. Honestly if you put in a little effort you'll be fine. I don't see how people can complain about the class. I get that if it's required you may not be super stoked about it, but if you put in just a little effort you'll be fine. It's not difficult in the end.
Dr. Das was more focused on having students ask ?'s than he was on teaching material. Most of our class time was used up answering random questions that people only asked to get participation points. He never went in depth on material in the class, leaving you to learn most out of the class. He is an extremely tough grader. DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS.
Dr. Das is a very good Professor. He really cares about his students and wants everyone to do well in his class. Most of the questions on the exams are from the textbook and as long as you put in the effort, you will get a good grade. I highly recommend going to this hangout hours and getting to know him because he is funny, wise, and intelligent.
