This professor was searching for ways to lower the class average.Participation was what killed most peoples marks because it accounted for 20% of your final mark and actually meant that you had to talk all the time in class. It reached the point when he had to reconsider how hard he was marking us in that category.Very boring course. Not a great prof
Very good professor. He was very organized and prepared. He is very easy going with students.
This teacher appreciates people who think clearly and are capable of intelligent and open debate. If you can't handle that you'll think he's an unfair marker. He's very fair, very clear, very approachable and helpful. You have to be motivated to learn to succeed in his class. He gives A's to people who deserve them.
Course was boring, but he tried. Participation marks weren't well structured and therefore very subjective.Assignments were fair.Needs to write comments on exams tho.Seemed like a decent person, but an okay prof for this course.Overall wouldn't recommend him.
Not his best course, I'm sure. He might be better off teaching another topic.
Tyler is a great guy, very intelligent and aproachable. He neededs to learn how to better organize his classes (ie power point), but is nevertheless able to convey the material. He wants stundents to participate in discussions actively, but not ignorantly.
Great prof - but you have to have personal and academic drive to get the job done right. Lots of reading.
Unprofessional
Tyler is a great UNconventional and UNtraditional prof. Yes, he is laid back, but not in class: during his lectures, he is 100% business. Very smart and still understands what students might have trouble with and clears it up as much as he can. He still works on a student clock, so don't expect marking to be handed back on time though.
Intelligent and engaging, sincere and fair but most importantly...he is HOT!
Tyler is an exceptional professor with a real gift for lecturing. His lectures are very clear and the material naturally sinks in by the end of the semester. In addition, he is very open to various points of view and allows students to excel in areas of their interest.
Tyler is one of the greatest teachers ever, honestly I loved his class... he is very nice and makes the course more interesting, I wasnt at all interested in taking his class but he completely changed my feelings towards it.. It was one of my best classes ever
Tyler is a fantastic teacher. He interacts very well with the students and provides great commentary during his lectures. The content of his classes is also very interesting. His only flaw as a teacher is that he sometimes acts in an unprofessional manner, especially when it comes to attending his own office hours, or when submitting papers or grad
This man is incoherent, and makes the worst analogies ever and uses the worst examples ever. he has no orginality of thought. He is boring... and he NOT HOT, by any means. Do not take his classes. AVOID at all costs.
What a useless prof. He was completely unprofessional and never got marks done on time. His lectures were all over the place and soo tedious to sit through. He made an interesting subject terrible. Don't take this class!
I disagree fully.. and I think the class was awesome and honestly I like tyler's analogies.. I recommend this class for anyone who wants to take it.
hes a great prof!!! grades fair and his lectures are good too
what a jerk
Coolest prof you'll ever have...ever! :)
Tyler is great. You can clearly see that he loves teaching. He will put alot of efforts into making all of his classes interesting. He is always willing to talk about any questions and/or comments students have about the course content and he grades students (fairly) according to their work ethic, motivation and interest in the course.
Funniest guy ever, great prof, keeps the class flowing.
Awesome prof! Even though sometimes the lecture material is a little boring he makes the class entertaining. Good marker, straight forward assignments. I will definably try and take another class with him!
I agree, he really is a jerk
Good professor, speaks loud and clear, insightful lectures that are organized in the outline with a variety of readings. Definetly an asset to the university.
Tyler is a great prof who definetely keeps his lectures interesting. He knows his stuff and is very approachable so if you are having trouble you need not worry. This class has been my favorite so far. I highly recommend Tyler as a prof and this class in particular.
I don't understand how there are so many people that like Tyler Attwood and his classes. His lectures are absolutely useless and he thinks students are incapable of independent thought.
He is one of the best professors at this university. He makes you want to come to class, mind you sometimes the lectures drag on, though thats the material and not his fault. Very helpful out of class, always says hello when he sees you.Keeps students engaged and entertained.
Seems like a nice guy, but his lectures were boring. He taught right out of the text, and the criteria for assignments kept changing eg length of the paper. POL 2156 is a combination of critical thinking and a workshop in essay writing. I did not find it useful.
Great prof. Good guy. Demanding but rewarding class. If people don't like him, it is probably because they can't wrap their head around postmodern political thought.
Excellent prof. He manages to make a mandatory critical thinking class - interesting! While the course material is demanding, you are rewarded for your efforts. His extensive use of the electronic blackboard was most helpful. I would definitely take another one of his classes.
Good guy. Good Prof, take international political economy with him. It's his field, so he's at his best.
Great Prof, really nice guy! The weird thing about him is that he smokes for some reason. Not many profs smoke, so I found that weird. Im really having a hard time getting over this guys... smoker.. hm
Tyler is an awesome proff. He really knows what he is taking about. He also makes you think in class and discuss with others the concepts taught. He also choose interesting articles to read. Exam is fair not to difficult. Keep up with you reading and ask questions and you can do very well in his class. Very nice guy
Tyler is the coolest professor I've ever had. He is hilarious, he'll just add in a random joke between slides... He is very intelligent and just a great guy. The course isnt too difficult, he is CLEAR in his expectations. I cant wait to take another one of his classes because he is so interesting to listen to!
Very cool guy. His jokes and stories are actually pretty funny, if you're not in a grumpy mood. He never really gives a straight answer to your questions though - sometimes, he'll just ramble on and on. Makes him sound like a textbook. Did alright in his course, but could've been better. Make sure you go to office hours for extra marks.
Good prof - kept your attention even though the subject matter was boring (research methods). Friendly and approachable. Only assignments included 4 small lab exercises and a research design project. No midterm and gave the questions to the final before. Attendance was marked.
Really funny prof! Probably the best option for research methods (the content is really dry). This class is really useful for research papers.
He is an amazing teacher! Very clear explanations, great interaction with the class. Funny, knowledgeable and simply great!
He does his best with the material he has, and IR is relevant to everything so its for sure a useful course. Really nice guy, tries to be helpful too...his exam review was the main reason I did well in this class :) Follow lectures and the textbook and you'll ace his class.
Great professor! Made attending class worthwhile. He's very chill and likes teaching. Rather than lecturing, we often discussed a chapter of the textbook, current themes and had debates. His assignments were short, fun and I learned a great deal when writing them! Great way to ace a course!
Really great prof! He's funny and explains the material well. Exams are long but fair. I'm hoping to get into another class with him next semester!
Great prof! I have had him for 3 classes thus far. Very clear, fair grader and funny! He always has good anecdotes to keep things interesting.
Sometimes interesting, sometimes not so much. Research methods was a sleeper, IR class, much better.
I love him! Great prof, super funny and a great teacher :)
Really funny guy. Makes lectures interesting and easy to understand. Would recommend his class.
HE IS EXTREMELY HELPFUL AND UNDERSTANDING!
Really good lecturer. No surprises on exams. Dude's hilarious. I learned a lot from him.
This is a challenging course which requires an in-depth understanding of the readings. Make sure to read ahead of time. Tyler is a brilliant professor and his feedback is very helpful. I learned so much from him and I hope to take more classes with him in the future. Take this class with Tyler if you get the chance!!
If you have to take International Political Economy, take it with Attwood. The man is a straight G.
All around great guy, super chill and straightforward. His assessments are fair and clear. I wish I had had him before my last semester!
Boringish lectures, but interesting material. Professor is really nice and presents the material with lots of examples and different perspectives. Clear textbook. Easy to skip class.
Dude loves the subject and is clearly knowledgable. Focuses too much on the theory and mechanics of US pol to actually enjoy the course. The title of the course is misleading, it's not comparative by any means. His multiple choice questions are odd, but he seems like a good dude.
Great prof
An excellent Professor. Clear expectations, great lectures, and very approachable. Exactly what an instructor should be.
Wasn't interested in the material at all but he's hilarious! Made three hour lectures bearable and he's super approachable. Need to buy the textbook to pass
Approachable and knowledgeable. Take his class if you can!
I've had him for several classes and they have been BY FAR my favourite. He's really interesting, hilarious in class and overall a great guy. His assignments are tough- but he expects you to do your best. He challenges you and you learn SO much in his classes. Everything is practical and you leave his class feeling smarter :)
Thanks for the Letter of Recommendation for Law school! Take him!
Took POL3111 with Prof Attwood and he was amazing. One of the best profs I have ever had!!. Gave us the exact questions that would be on the final and second midterm exam. Also was very flexible with due dates a moved stuff around to make it easier on us students. Take his class if you can!
He's super funny and a great person, but he just seems to go off on a tangent when teaching and sometimes references useless things. I almost never went to class because I could never take down notes. And his grading criteria is like nothing I've ever seen, because he's very contradictory in his feedback and no one seems to know what he wants.
Great prof, can be really funny. Easy going with the grades, but is a tough marker.
He is not a very organized prof. He rambles on a lot and it's hard to discern the key information in his lectures, which in turn makes it difficult to take notes. I've attended every single class, and yet as I study now for my final exam, I find that most of my notes are incomplete or disorganized. I'll be avoiding this prof from now on.
Prof. Attwood is an excellent communicator, and expectations for assignments/midterms/finals are crystal clear. Everything corresponds to the lectures/slides/textbook without any confusion. He truly puts the effort into teaching his students and the courses are well taught, fair, and if you work hard you'll get a good mark. Would take again!
I really enjoyed him as a teacher. He's funny and cares a lot about his students.
Loved his class. Awesome prof. As long as you complete what is asked and pay attention you can get a good grade.
Really great prof. He really wants his students to succeed. Lectures could be long, but for the most part I found him very knowledgeable and interesting. I would definitely take another one of his classes.
Attwood is a blessing, by far my favourite prof. The course was very interesting, I thoroughly enjoyed writing my paper/assignments. To get the best/most out of his course, make sure you do the readings, attend, participate in class & express your opinion! Don't be afraid to ask him any questions, he is incredibly compassionate and understanding.
Professor Attwood is an amazing lecturer. He manages to make a 3 hour lecture somewhat entertaining and explains the content really well. His marking is fair on the papers and gives you chances to boost your mark with a facebook posting assignment that last throughout the semester. Overall, GREAT PROF!
My favourite class and favourite prof so far! He's entertaining and really wants his students to succeed. Clearly passionate about what he teaches and is clear about his expectations!
I had him for POL1102 during the year and had also had him for POL3176 as a summer course. Both classes were great. POL1102 was honestly a little boring at times, but that's probably because it's a first year class. POL3176 was a lot more interesting. For both classes, Attwood was overall super clear and fair. Very solid prof and really nice too.
I really loved this professor for POL1102. He's one of the only professors I've had that lectures instead of simply reading off their powerpoint. He explains everything super well and can make political science interesting and understandable. He's also very open to helping his students and giving feedback, he is a bit of a tough grader though.
Awesome prof! Had him for a fourth year, foreign aid seminar. Fair marker, interesting to listen to, uses a "discussion based" approach to the seminar. Would recommend.
He is simply an amazing professor. He goes beyond what is on the slides, and actually discusses the topic beyond the textbook. Engaging which makes it easy to focus if you try. Very fair on his papers, midterm and exam. Even tells you exactly what to study. Really approachable and understanding. Great professor to learn about global politics from.
Since he's an American, he brought some real life experience to teaching US politics. Great lectures, straight forward assignments and fair marker. Tyler is also just a great guy to chat with about generally anything.
Professor Attwood is in my top three favourite professors I've had at uOttawa and I am in my final year. His classes are engaging, his expectations are very clear, his lectures are filled with jokes and he is really just a super nice guy. You will learn a lot and you will have fun doing so. For POL4141 BUY THE TEXTBOOK - the final exam relies on it
Incredible prof. Very friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about the topic. He's very accessible outside of class and always offers solid feedback on assignments. He is neither easy or tough with marking, but very fair. Go to the lectures because his insight often turns into very useful tangents about the subject matter.
Awesome class with an awesome professor. Attwood really taught the subject well and was very concise on what was expected from the class. 10/10 would take again
One of the best profs at the university, really knows his stuff and truly wants his students to do well. Definitely take him if you can!
Sweetest prof ever! Great lecturer & engaging. He really cares about his students and wants them to do well. 2 (pretty short)essays, a midterm, discussion groups and a final. Midterm was not easy, but would be if you thoroughly did all the readings and memorized. He has very clear grading criteria, making it easy to do well if you put in the effort
His lectures are a little disorganized but overall he is a great professor. He posts all the readings on Brightspace and fosters engaging class discussion about the readings while providing real life examples. A very practical and interesting course for anyone interested in political economy and development economics
Best professor ever!
He is the sweetest man you will encounter, and he genuinely cares about his students. Emails are answered promptly, and his office doors are always open. However, I found his lectures to be dreadfully boring and just an iteration of the textbook. I stopped going and still managed to pull a good mark. But man is he nice.
I love this guy. He's so funny and genuinely cares about his students. Easy grader and really tries to make sure his students succeed. Love him.
Literally such a sweetheart. He is kind and wants his students to succeed. However, his teaching style is very boring. 2 essays to write which are really simple but his midterm/exam consist of MC, fill in the blank which are hard and 3 short answered questions. The fill in the blanks were brutal. I liked him, but not enough for me to retake him.
I loved this prof. He made the class so much more interesting by going beyond what was on the slides and engaging with the students. You can tell he knows what hes talking about and that he cares about his students. The 2 assignments, the midterm and the exam were very fair. Also super funny and sweet. Read the textbook for extra info (helpful)
Professor Attwood is an amazing person. He is kind and knows his subject inside out. He does a great job of transmitting his impressive knowledge and loves to hear students thoughts and opinions in class (unlike others). Easy class if you put in just a little effort.
Super nice prof, very accessible by email/office hours. Papers are very easy, and the final was fair. Textbook is definitely important, as his slides are not every helpful, and his lectures are often very disorganized.
I loved prof Attwood. He was always available after class and followed through with very accurate and concise advice. He grades fairly and has awesome TAs. He knows his subject well and is very passionate about it! Would take again any day! I definitely recommend him!
One of the best professors I've ever had. Very organized and such a sweet man. You don't need to go to every lecture to do well. Assignments are pretty straight-forward and the instructions are easy to follow. The readings help if you don't attend that specific lecture but they're not that crucial.
Politics and globalization with him is an incredible course. He is very welcoming and warm.
I had globalization with Attwood, he's honestly one of the best profs I've had. Very passionate about his course and very funny. Make sure to read the textbook.
He's honestly a gem, and I really appreciate him. He understands the stress the students go through in university so he tries to go easy on us while doing his job. I honestly love him & I'll definitely look out for him when enrolling for my future courses. Attwood is your ideal university professor. 10/10 WOULD RECOMMEND
While his lectures may be disorganized and confusing, Professor Attwood is good. He cares about his students and gives an opportunity for small mark boosts during the semester if you participate. The 2 papers are 2,500 words and 20% each which can make many first years like me nervous. Journals are worth 20% and are the easiest thing ever.
Genuinely nice guy, but lectures were all over the place and hard to follow. Textbook only useful for papers and the final. TAs can be harsh on the papers and give no feedback. Class is easy enough that you can catch up even with a few skips.
Attwood is a fantastic professor, I loved his lectures. The class had two papers and the final exam plus a bunch of bonus point projects that you could complete if you'd like. Attwood was good to listen too, he makes jokes and is very friendly. He really cares about what he's teaching. TA's mark hard but otherwise it's a great class
Best proff ever. Love his lectures, super clear grading criteria, kind, funny, amazing man in general. Would 100% take any class he teaches.
real down to earth dude. good grading (relatively flexible) and lots of feedback. very caring prof with entertaining lectures. good content too but can get off topic
Definitely read the texts, and go to his lectures, it will help. Hes super interesting and great to talk to after class as well. He encourages discussion and makes political discourse very intriguing in an academic context, youll enjoy the course
Loved this prof. To be honest, I didn't always show up to class because everything was self-explanatory. He literally gives you all the chances you can get to receive an A+. I genuinely don't know how someone can get a bad grade in this class. YOU NEED THE BOOK AND YOU NEED TO READ IT. The final exam is fully based on readings. Definitely recommend
The content of this course was very dry, but he did his best to make it interesting all the same. A lot of what was discussed in lectures was also in the textbook. His grading criteria and expectations were clear and he was willing to give extensions if you gave notice. All in all a good prof that I'd recommend.
I had him last semester and was disappointed to see I had him again. It hurts me to say that because he's so sweet, but I literally fall asleep in his classes. Not metaphorically. LITERALLY. He goes on tangents and rambles, and by the end of the class, my notes look like a copy of the powerpoint cuz he doesn't say anything else thats noteworthy.
His TA's mark unreasonably first of all. And his exams ask too much of students. His long answer questions are basically like essays, and it's unclear how he wants us to answer. He doesn't post sample written question answers like most profs do, so we're left in the dark. I refuse to take his courses again.
sis. . . that midterm. . . crazy
Great teacher and cares about his students. Lectures can be boring but overall a great prof.
I took this course because I knew Attwood was the prof. His classes can be lecture heavy and he does go off on tangents, but that is because he is very knowledgeable on the subjects and cares a great deal for his students. Everyone I know who complained just didn't want to listen to him. Funny guy, will most definitely take his courses again.
One of the most caring prof I have ever met, I learned a lot from his class. I would definitely take it again!!!!
The nicest prof I've ever had. You can tell he really cares about the students and wants you to do well. Gives you lots of chances to improve your grade, the papers & exam were easy if you just follow the instructions he gave. Lectures can be disorganized, but still go because they do clarify the material a lot and he's also just the sweetest guy.
Sweetest person but gave a really wild midterm and marked fairly difficultly. Easy final though. Not bad, not great. Really kind person though.
Professor Attwood's class was a highlight this term. The projects are reasonable, and you have lots of freedom in picking your topic. The discussions are informative, & you use the textbook. He's caring & makes sure the workload is manageable. He made himself available outside of class hours and did a great job handling hurdles during the semester.
One of the best POL profs at uOttawa. Very knowledgeable about the politics of the US because he is from the US!
Lots of class discussions in class. Fair grader.
Professor Attwood is a rockstar professor. Very caring about students and structures the course in a manageable way. Readings and textbooks are not really necessary unless using them as a source in an essay. Be sure to participate in class discussion!
His reviews always correlate to the test. Always.
Honestly a great teacher. Very caring responds quickly and tries his best to make the class interesting. Weekly homework is given but I always got 100% on each submission. The course load is very easy and manageable. The essays are easy if instructions are followed.
Kind and great prof! Would take him again.
Really a fantastic lecturer, made all the content extremely interesting. Marks very fairly and provides a lot of opportunities for extra credit. Course does rely heavily on the textbook, so be prepared to buy that.
Nice professor! Always willing to answer questions.
showed us his cat on zoom so i like him. writing heavy. wish he'd tell first yrs to just read the dang syllabus but bc he's nice he spoon feeds them info and it eats into class time :(((. would take again bc he knows what he's doing and i enjoy hearing what he has to say. posts lectures after recording them.
I loved Professor Attwood. He is really nice and caring towards his students. His online classes were all recorded and easy to follow. Although all of his evaluations were pretty reasonable and easy, his final exam was cruel. He made us write 4000 words of final exam. I will recommend you to start early on the final exam as it is not easy.
Professor Attwood is a 10/10 professor. You can tell he's passionate about the field and cares about his students. Expect to participate in his upper-year classes. Research essay was central to the course, and the textbook was really only needed for the final exam.
Loved his lectures, they were easy to follow and clear and he explained things well. Was great when answering questions too and really made sure that students were understanding. He also took into account the extra stress of online school and deadlines and gave the class extensions. Overall a great prof
Amazing prof! Take his class you won't regret it :)
He is a really chill professor. However, lectures are mostly dry as they are a summary of the textbook with random anecdotes thrown in there. He does answer questions, which makes the class dynamic. However, he has troubles finishing the content and may spend several classes in a few slides. He gives extensions.
I was lucky enough to take POL1102 + POL2103 with Attwood this year and I can't recommend him enough. He's overall a great guy, a helpful professor, and an entertaining lecturer. His classes were pretty easy, and lectures mostly summarized the textbook readings. Both classes had weekly assignments, but those were easy! 100% take his classes
The 4000 word exam was gruelling but it was a couple of short answer and long answer questions that you can use the textbook for, but just make sure you start it early instead of procrastinating and it will not stress you out as much. Other than that, this class was amazing and I'm so excited to take another class with him eventually! Amazing prof
Prof. Attwood's class was fantastic. Lectures and DGDs were always incredibly engaging. He is also incredibly understanding in terms of marks. If you have the option to, take his class!!
He is an amazing, funny and caring professor, honestly the best one I could've hoped for during my first year at the University of Ottawa! We can never finish a full powerpoint during ht lecture because he often gets off-topic, but he is amazing and always there for his students! I would 100% recommend him!
Pro tip: dont take this class if you dont need it. Professor Attwood is nice but his lectures are often tangents and his slides dont provide much information. If this subject doesnt interest you, this class will just seem boring. The assignments were difficult and didnt seem like they were made for a first year course. The TAs also grade hard.
Prof Attwood is a legend. He clearly knows what he's talking about and his class is really interesting. The assignements are challenging, but they are manageable if you pay attention in class. He also gives extra credit opportunities, which can help if you messed up an assignement.
Attwood is a really sweet guy, his lectures are engaging and he encourages a lot of participation. he gives good feedback and is very understanding. amazing experience with this fella, would definitely take another course with him
Don't take POL1102 as an elective if you're looking for an easy pass. The lectures were more like discussions, the assignments were difficult, and the TAs were unhelpful and graded unnecessarily hard. As a suggestion, don't take his class if you have no prior knowledge on the subject/aren't interested in it seeing as his lectures are boring.
Entertaining lecturer, examsexpectations were very clear, fair marker. I had a TA mark my final exam too harshly and went to discuss it with him, ended up bumping the grade 20%. Easily accessible outside of class, and gives great input if you run term paper ideas past him.
The course was okay. He is a nice guy and he cares. However, he is a very slow grader, he provided NO marks to his students before entering the final exam period, and he exhibits a clear double standard by requiring his students to write excessive amounts (many online posts, large paper, LONG take home final) while grading hard and slowly.
He is very understanding and available. His lectures can be kinda boring but he makes it easier to listen by being casual, although I did have to drink coffee to properly follow his ramblings. There are a few assignments worth a lot but sooo many extra projects that you can do to raise your mark. Structured and organized course, just ok overall
My second course with Attwood, he's great. Super understanding and flexible if you need an extension, generally a nice guy. There are participation points so attendance/participation (over zoom and on brightspace) are worth like 20%. Clear guidelines and in previous experience the finals are very straight forward.
He assumes that you already have a solid understanding of politics, so his class is very difficult. Textbook is very difficult to understand. His paper requires very in-depth analysis. TA is very harsh on grading the paper. Challenging course for freshmen. Reconsider your decision if you are a freshman and want to take his class.
Great prof! Very understanding. Expectations are clear and concise. If you follow the material and instructions, you'll do well.
Attwood is a super nice guy, probably one of the nicest professors i've had so far. he is very flexible with deadlines and always available outside class. his TA's are a bit harsh but he is receptive to your concerns and will look over your papers if you think you got too poor a mark. would recommend!
lectures are fun at first, but eventually, he goes off topic too much and I lose focus and that's it for me! exams are not bad. got an A- on the midterm, but expected better. but the book is good and easy to understand. worth buying to get good grades.
Awesome prof! He is very caring and understanding when it comes to extensions. In his class, the textbook is you best friend, as many of his assignments are based off of it. He his very generous when it comes to easy mark boosting/bonus assignments. Overall great prof, would definitely take again
He has 10 percent for in class participation and 10 percent for online discussion posts. For the in class participation it is nearly impossible to speak because he just goes on useless tangents the whole time, and for the online participation he grades them based on how spaced out they are and nothing else. Make sure your posts are two weeks apart!
Tyler Attwood is one of the best professors in uOttawa. His lectures are excellent! He's very engaging and caring. Furthermore, he is always accessible outside of the class. I 100% recommend his classes and can't wait to take another class with him. You don't need prior political science knowledge to understand his lectures.
Lecture slides were pretty lackluster in their information overall, but Attwood explains the material extremely well in class. Provides good feedback on assignments. Biggest problem with his class is how ridiculously long it took to receive feedback on assignments and the miderm. Still a great professor, though.
Nice dude, would take another class with him. Lectures were a little long and dry though. Grading wasn't the easiest, but overall fair.
He is really such a nice guy and very knowledgeable about U.S. Foreign Policy and International Relations. However, he was extremely difficult to reach outside of class, both through emails and office hours.
Attwoood was the best professor i've had at Uottawa. His content was always really engaging and the textbook readings were very interesting. He provided more than enough time for papers and exams. You can tell he wants the students to succeed but also challenge them to really learn. Would love to have this prof again in future classes!
BEST PROF EVER! He truly cares about his students, always gives really interesting lectures and very nice! Highly recommend taking a class with him! :)
Awesome professor. Lectures were very slideshow-heavy and didn't give much to work with regarding direct notes; however, he was a great speaker and cared about his job and teaching. Would retake him in a heartbeat and recommend him to everyone looking for interesting Poli Sci courses.
Hands down one of the best profs I ever had. He is very accommodating and understanding. Don't miss the lectures and take good notes and you should be fine.
HATED this class. Prof always goes on impertinent tangents & barely gets through slides. The material was very dry & felt that it did not add value to my education. In my experience, I had a terrible TA who graded very harshly for a first year class (should have gone to prof in retrospect). I actively avoid his classes, he was mind-numbingly boring
Professor Attwood is amazing! All political science students say good things about him and I'm not an exception. Very nice and caring person. Weekly tests are open from Sunday to Saturday! He asks for feedback. Only potential negative is that he goes through slides a bit slow and can talk about things not related to the lecture.
I had 2 courses with prof Attwood and I would blindly take another one with this man in the future! super understanding and his lectures are amazing and easy to understand. yes we did have a lot of reading, but this what politics is about after all I guess? just study and stay focused and you will have a very good grades and time with him! :)
LOOVEEEEE HIMMMM!!!!!!! take his class!!!!!
Honestly one of the professors I have yet to take in university. He is very accessible outside of class and gives great feedback on assignments. He was always so joyful and was very helpful when I had questions. I really recommend taking this professor even if the class is online!
This class was honestly so boring, but it was very easy. There's like 4 papers due, including a final paper and they're all pretty straightforward, as long as you pull the material from that specific chapter of the textbook that it's based on, you'll do fine. Didn't really have to show up to lectures, papers were based on a chapter from textbook.
I took this as a hybrid course. He recorded and posted the lectures which was immensely helpful as a disabled student. He communicated content and expectations clearly. Midterm, essay and final were the only evaluations. Exams were both take home. Basically taught the textbooks (pro+con). Marking was a little slow (only 35% marked before the final)
ONE OF MY FAVORITES PROFESSORS OF ALL TIMES!!! TAKE HIM, HES THE BESTTTTT. I LOVEEEEEEEEE HIM
Incredible professor. Kind, easy going, and straight forward. Grading is fair and if you want a good mark, do all the readings. Very writing based couse (a mid term paper, research paper, and final exam paper)
Attwood is a great prof and a super nice guy! He is an engaging speaker and his expertise within his field is evident in his ability to explain complex concepts using simplistic language! He is very reasonable with expectations and open to accommodating the needs of his students. I highly recommend taking his courses if you have the opportunity! :)
Professor Attwood is a solid instructor. I have taken him for both POL 1101 and 1102. While he did forget to return grades to some students, he was generally a good professor. His lectures are interesting, though the evaluations heavily rely on the textbook. Overall, he offers a worthwhile learning experience despite some minor issues.
Professor Attwood is a solid instructor. His lectures are engaging, and he's open to accommodating student needs. Though the course relies heavily on the textbook, Attwood offers a worthwhile learning experience. For study prep, unstuckstudy proved to be quite helpful.
He was a very good professor, super approachable and made his expectations clear. My only complaint is that often went off topic in lectures and it felt like we weren't learning enough but other than that I would absolutely recommend! Very fair grader too and he pushes back deadlines when needed for the whole class.
He's super nice and understanding when it comes to extensions and stuff, super chill grader. He does talk a lot though so it's hard to focus, attendance isn't mandatory, slides are posted.
The prof is so nice! His lectures are not the most interesting sometimes, but he's very passionate about the subject. The class is only broken up into 3 grades which is scary, but he always gives detailed instructions for the papers. He is also accessible outside of class and gives extensions both individually and for the class when we struggle.
Absolutely positively one of the best profs I've had the pleasure of taking a course with. He's clearly very passionate about what he teaches and he let's you know exactly what he expects for the assignments. This course is not an easy A+ but if you put in the work you'll learn a lot and get a good grade.
Super nice guy, worth attending lectures. Class is split into 2papers and final exam (worth 33.3%) Exam was difficult, recommend taking online if possible as his in-person exam was just a take home we sat and wrote. He says day one if it's between attending class or reading the textbook, read the textbook, he just summarizes + examples in class.
Super nice person and extremely understanding. My only complaint is that his lectures did get boring sometimes because he'd get off track. If you read the material and slides posted you'll be completely fine. There are no tests so if you're good at essays this would be for you. The essays are not very toughly graded.
Professor Attwood is the best; he creates a great and memorable learning environment. Tips: Do the readings before class, attend the lectures, and participate in class discussions. His lectures are thought-provoking; he expands beyond the readings to real-world applications of contemporary topics, showing the interconnections and relevance.
Solid prof, very nice a friendly. Course is fairly easy as long as you give yourself enough time to work on essays. There are mini quizzes frequently but they are basically free marks.
Super boring lectures, that do not provide any extra commentary on readings. Only graded on two essays which are only based on one chapter of reading and a final that is given to you beforehand as a study guide. Attendance is not needed just do the readings when you need to and you'll be fine.
You can definitely tell that he's passionate about what he teaches. Always gave thorough answers to in-class questions and was understanding regarding deadlines. He also lets you use the citation style you prefer for essays. Overall great professor, super friendly!
One of my favourite professors I have ever had. I've taken two online classes with him. He is super engaging and really nice.
very nice professor, I recommend taking the class online if possible
Prof Attwood is one of the best profs at uOttawa. He has very clear grading criteria, and he is very accessible outside of class. Attending the lectures is not necessary, provided you do the readings, and be sure to use them as a guide to write your essays.
Lectures are kinda useless, but the nicest most caring prof of all time. All essays, I took both POL1102 and POL2103 at the same time, both taught by him, which I highly reccemend. Its basically the same course twice, so super easy. His lectures can be pretty boring, as they are basically just sumamries of the textbook. Super easy, and great prof.
good prof, nice, funny
I love him, the class itself wasn't very fun, however i told him that i needed a slight boost in my grade to reach my GPA and he very kindly reviewed my assignment and boosted my grade enough to where i reach my GPA. He is very kind and gentle and a very nice professor. Do not be afraid to talk to him or email him, he will be very kind and help you
Professor Attwood is not only a good teacher but also an amazing person. He is very passionate about teaching politics and is always available outside of class for questions. While there are only 3 graded elements, if you do the readings, engage in class discussions and ask when you are unsure about a topic, excelling is completely possible!
Professor Attwood was a tremendous professor for me at a time when I was suffering from severe depression. Very understanding of my strengths and weaknesses and was willing to adjust accordingly. If you have a love for Political Science, his is the course to take, very knowledgeable without the stuffiness of some other profs.
Easily the nicest prof at this school. Online quizzes every week, one midterm, one essay, and a final. He gives study guides that are super helpful and straightforward. He cares a lot about his students and is very compassionate and understanding.
GREAT PROF!!!! take him if you can he's amazing and so passionate about what he does! His lectures may seem a little boring but if you focus on what he's saying, he actually explains every concept extremely well, and the midterm focuses on everything he said in class. Super nice guy
GOATWOOODDDDD he is so kind, and caring, and truly cares about his students. take him if oyu can
Literally one of my favorite professors this semester. If you take his class, please laugh at his jokes he's hilarious. The material was a little boring but I do think I learned a lot, midterm exam was exactly what was on the practice sheet so make sure you study that!
He's a great lecturer, clear, organized, and easy to follow. I love his Star Wars references! Requirements are clear, and you're graded on two papers and a final exam. Very responsive to emails and provides helpful materials. I definitely recommend him!
Professor Attwood is very caring and considerate for his students. The course consists of two essays and one final exam. The essays have extremely clear criteria and he is not shy about giving feedback! I received my own essay back from him about how to improve. We also were given criteria for our final exam. He is a 10/10 professor!
great prof, interactive, lowkey his slides have everything you need but I liked going to lectures cause he'd often speak about whatever he was teaching as if it was a conversation if that makes sense and many times go a little off topic lol but not in a bad way, so the class felt interactive and intriguing. he has very clear grading criteria too.
Reviews speak for themselves. Take him if you can, one of the best profs here.
Great lecturer, material can be dry at times but he makes it interesting. For exams, make sure to write lots and take nuanced opinions. He wants you to expand on your ideas. The TA/marker for the essay was super helpful/available. You should do the readings, because the lectures are based almost exclusively on them. Doesn't make you buy a textbook.
