I also had him for Doctrine of the Book of Mormon. He's awesome. He is sincere and caring. He is an amazing and entertaining teacher. You can feel the Spirit strongly and you also learn a lot about the scriptures. It's an awesome class from an awesome teacher. I'd recommend his classes to anyone.
This is by far one of the best professors I have had. He is crazy inspirational and I've cried from the spirit countless times from his class. His grading is clear and he really admires the use of agency in class. I would definitely take one of his classes again.
I absolutely loved this class - Wow. I actually felt sad to not be coming back to this class the following semester. Every day I left feeling inspired and loved, and Brother Griffin is an amazing teacher. The exam is hard, but it's open Book of Mormon so take good notes in class and you'll be fine. I would definitely take another class from him.
He was a great teacher. I learned a lot from his class. He is willing to work with you if you need it.
The content in the class was great! I loved learning from the Book of Mormon! However, the grading was terrible. The TAs were very harsh. Also the tests were very subjective I thought and they had content which we did not cover in class.
My favorite professor at BYU so far. A real genuine man with amazing insights on the Book of Mormon. I learned so much from him!
Brother Griffin is the best! He gives wonderful insights to the Book of Mormon, and really emphasizes personal growth. Fabulous teacher! Take him!!
Brother Griffin was the best teacher I've ever had. I actually looked forward to coming to his class in the morning. He really cares about his students. He really makes you think. I felt the Spirit so strongly in his class. The tests were open scripture. The TA reviews are a lifesavers. They basically give you the test. I plan on taking him again.
I love how Bro Griffin teaches New Testament. It really is a spiritual experience first, and a college course second. The tests are easy if you go to class and pay attention-- which isn't hard to do since his lectures are so uplifting and interesting. All assignments are meaningful if you put time in! Would take again for sure.
Brother Griffin is the best. I love this man so much. He was so nice and caring. I felt the spirit so strong in each of our classes. The class is easy, it's mainly based on your own effort to study the scriptures. I will definitely take another class with Brother Griffin.
TAKE HIS CLASS, IT WILL BE A LIFE CHANGING EXPERIENCE. He is probably the best religion professor on campus.
For a class called "Principles and Doctrines of the BOM" it was way too much opinion, and not enough principles and doctrine. The tests were based purely on what he opinionated in lectures, and was not backed up by clear scripture, modern or ancient. It was still an easy class with the way he has grades set up, but I never felt the spirit there.
Brother Griffin is AMAZING! His class seriously changed my life. He has incredible insight and background knowledge of the scriptures and their cultural context. The tests are extremely specific from his lectures, but tests are open scripture so just take detailed notes in your scripture margins and you'll be fine. Best religion professor ever.
Brother Griffin is a fantastic professor! In short here is what the class consisted of... Reading your scriptures each night, a personal project (that you work on each week), a form shared each week and attending each class. Staying on top of these things each week and staying focused in class will earn you an A. I highly recommend this class.
Brother Griffin is amazing! He teaches the Book of Mormon in a way that allows you to learn and grow so much and the homework is all about growth too, even the tests are a spiritual experience rather than a bunch of memorization. 2 tests, 2 papers, and 1 project. He is amazing- I would recommend him to anybody and everybody.
Brother Griffin is one of the best! His lectures were spiritual, and I learned so much about the Savior. Readings are not too heavy, but you need to keep up with it. The SMART project is a weekly one hour time commitment, and it inspired me to be involved in YServe. His puns can sometimes be annoying, but I can overlook it. Overall great professor!
Tyler Griffen is by far one of the most inspirational teachers I have ever had. Lectures are amazing and he doesn't assign a huge amount of unreasonable homework for a religion class. He is very understanding of a students life and schedule.
Loved this class! Took the second half from him, too. There's just one research paper and a project of your choice that you work an hour on each week, plus a couple of exams that are a piece of cake to pass if you pay attention in class. Review sessions for tests are quite helpful, too. He focuses on teaching quality, not quantity of material.
Prof. Griffin does a great job in lectures of involving the class. Only 2 papers for the class and weekly assignments are graded on honor system (you grade yourself). The weekly project that you have to complete is worth a lot of points so if you don't dedicate yourself to that, you won't get an A in the class.
I took this class my first semester not really knowing what to expect, and he was great. Be prepared for lots of puns, but the workload is really manageable. There are 2 papers, and 2 exams. The exams are open note, open scripture, so it's fairly easy to do well.
Lots of puns. Sometimes these get in the way. Also he talks REALLY quiet. But pay attention when he tells you to write something in your scriptures. Midterm was surprisingly easy, final was surprisingly hard. You can tell he cares, though, and he wants you to do well. Warning, I approached this class as an atheist. So probably easier for others.
Brother Griffin had so many amazing insights into the Book of Mormon. You have to earn your grade, but if you do the work consistently an A shouldn't be difficult to achieve. My testimony grew a lot because of this class, and I always enjoyed going to class.
I cannot express my love for Brother Griffin enough. I absolutely loved his class. One midterm, one final, two essays, semester-long project, and weekly self-graded quizzes. He teaches with the Spirit and changed how I read the Book of Mormon. He has lots of dad jokes, and if you go to class and do the assignments it's a really easy A!
Brother Griffin does have amazing lectures and is inspirational. HOWEVER, I would not take his class again because I felt he was very seminary teacher-like. He does not allow time or opportunity for class discussion. Taking a class from a guy who has a Doctorate in religious studies shouldn't feel like seminary.
Brother Griffin is the man! Love his class. He is very clear about the grading scheme, but is more interested in your learning that becoming a gospel scholar. I took him for 275 and 250 and would continue taking more of his classes if he had any more
Brother Griffin is a GREAT teacher to learn a religion class from. He reminded me of an incredible Seminary teacher that I had during high school. However, it also caused me to doze off a little bit. He makes it clear that your learning is his #1 priority, the tests are doable if you go to class, and he'll bump your grade up if you try during class
If you are a freshman, love cheesy puns, or are looking for trivial scriptural observations, take Griffin. Assignments are the epitome of busywork (besides the scripture study). But you're graded on daily reading (Didn't read 15+ mins? Sorry!). Christ is minimally focused. Everlasting Gospel? More like "10 Fun Bible Facts to Make your Morning"
Professor Griffin is the best religion teacher I've ever had! I always feel spiritually uplifted after attending his lectures. Can use scriptures for tests which is way nice He jokes around during lectures but also brings the spirit in making his lectures super inspiring Scripture reading goals and a semester-long project that aren't hard Recommend
I LOVE HIM!!! He is so awesome. He truly cares about the students and is more concerned about building testimonies than building GPAs. He is very lenient and truly wants everyone to succeed and not worry about the grades so they can focus more on their spiritual growth. If you need to take a religion class, take it from brother griffen or sweat!!
Best professor EVER. One of my favorite things about him was that in a class of 300 people he learned who I was and remembered my name. I have grown so much spiritually this semester and I have learned SO MUCH. The class isn't too hard, the exam is pretty intense but is totally doable if you go to class and take good notes. TAKE FROM THIS GUY.
Bro Giffin fails to realize this is a JOB not a CALLING. He is to TEACH us, not PREACH to us. Treats us like 14 yr-old girls at EFY. Focuses too much on facts and translation than doctrine. Class not well set up. Lots of pointless busy work outside of class that has no benefit. Take it from a professor who will teach you, not preach opinion. Easy A
I LOVED Professor Griffins class. I am sad it's ending, he is one of the most loving, kind and inspirational people that I know. He taught doctrine and helped me to see how the Book of Mormon could apply more to me. You will need to be in class to get the points, but his classes are what religion classes should be like.
He is amazing, spiritually centered.
I have never had a religion professor like brother Griffin. This class is INCREDIBLE. He knows more about the New Testament than anyone I have ever listened to, and gives the most inspired, spirit-led insights. He doesn't give you busy work either; he really allows you to freely use your agency in this class, while still requiring effort. So good!!
Professor Griffin is a really great guy. He knows a lot and loves what he does. He's passionate and fun. The class isn't too hard but there's a consistent workload. He makes lots of puns and asks for participation. I liked this class, just didn't love it.
Bro Griffin is amazing! great lectures, very knowledgeable, willing to cover controversial topics and explain them well, and hilarious!
Brother Griffin is great! I've learned a lot about the gospel from him. The class is a lot of work for a religion class (there's a semester long project and a few papers), and the TAs sort of arbitrarily give you grades you don't deserve because they feel like they can't give anyone a 100%. Come to lecture, take good notes.
A really great man with an inspiring testimony. Really loves and cares about his students. I learned a lot from his lectures; I think he's a great choice.
One of the best Professors I have ever met.
Completely not worth the trouble. Also the TAs goal is to make your life miserable and prove they have power over you.
Brother Giffiin's lectures were fantastic. The Spirit was very strong. There are a lot of little things that you need to do outside of class, including lots of self-graded work. There is also one midterm and one final exam and two fairly short papers.
One of the most amazing religious classes I have ever had. I've heard rumors of other professors who make tests ridiculously hard so not everyone gets an A, but I never felt like this class was like that at all. His only goal is to help you progress spiritually and each assignment is designed to do so. Amazing testimony. Wish it was 6 hours long.
Brother Griffin is a great teacher! He cares a lot about his students and gives really good, spiritually-edifying lectures. He's funny at times, too. There is work outside class, which includes personal scripture study. His grading criteria is clear, and his goals are to help you do well in class and become more like the Savior. I recommend him!
I am a convert to the church. When I took his class I had been a member a little over a year, and had read the Book of Mormon once on my own. This class was challenging for me. Bro. Griffin made this class stressful for me, the tests I found to be very challenging. It probably would have been easier if I had more prior experience with the BOM.
Bro Griffin teaches well and requires reading, but doesn't make the class ridiculously hard. He encourages you to take notes in your scriptures, which you can take into tests. You'll want good notes, but if you miss something the test reviews cover everything. There is a semester-long project, so choose something reasonable. Small weekly hw/quiz.
I have taken three classes from Brother Griffin and I left every one of them feeling uplifted and inspires. If you want a religion class where you will feel the spirit every day in class, take Brother Griffin.
He is my favorite religion professor I ever had! His class isn't too hard. He really wants you to do well and he will curve the tests if they are hard which they rarely are. He has amazing insights and I loved his class so much! He's just a great guy and you can feel the spirit so deeply in his class.
Bro Griffin is one of the most inspiring men I've met. I leave every class feeling like my testimony has grown stronger and my knowledge of the true gospel of Christ has significantly increased. He also just seems to be a great person in general: humble, kind, understanding. TAKE THIS CLASS! It will change the way you understand the gospel!!
This was Brother Griffins first year teaching this religion class so things were pretty shakey. Honestly it was way to much homework and reading for 2 credits. Tests were brutal. Hopefully takes feedback and adjusts soon, or else this class will be a bruiser. I think he forgets most of us have more classes than this 1. Great guy but huge time inv.
Hes a really funny guy and makes his lectures fun. Very inspirational and makes you want to do better. His tests are rather easy, so long as you take notes on your scriptures. Make note of ALL cross references he talks about.
Brother Griffin is the man but there were some major flaws in the class. He made most of your grade based on tests, and group project which - he gave us the a study guide that had totally different questions for the test. The group projects could be ok or terrible depending on who is grading them (peer graded). Take it from someone else for sure.
Professor Griffin gives incredible lectures, and I truly feel that his class has brought me closer to the Savior. Take Book of Mormon from Griffin; you won't regret it.
Brother Griffin is the BEST! He is the perfect balance between knowledge of the scriptures and spiritual application. There is one project per semester that is super easy and fun, and the only homework is a weekly email/post on what you learned that week. I would 100% recommend this class and Brother Griffin!
BroGriffin is amazing! His lectures are super spiritual and the class is laid out very clearly. Two papers the entire semester and only a weekly assignment where you report on if you attended class, if you read your scriptures, and if you worked on your semester project. I found the tests difficult but I would definitely take this class again!
I genuinely enjoyed the semester long project in this class. Every assignment I did, I gained something. His lectures are incredible. He has an amazing talent for speaking of sacred things in a way that is accessible, but retains the importance of the thing he is talking about. I already signed up for another class by him.
honestly the best class I have ever taken at BYU. I don't say that lightly either. I had a spiritual experience every single week that will impact me for the rest of my life. The Book of Mormon was opened up to me in a way that I have never before knew. He IS the best teacher at BYU- hands down. MUST TAKE. even if you've taken Book of Mormon.
Brother Griffin is absolutely one of the best professors at BYU. He teaches from the scriptures and opens them up in a way that I've never experienced before. He places you in the shoes of the scripture characters, and he makes Christ become a real person, not just some distant, abstract idea. His lectures left me uplifted and inspired daily.
This is the second class I've taken from Tyler, and he is my favorite religion teacher I've ever had. He's so spiritual and takes time to personalize his teachings so that they also mean something to the students. Textbook scriptures There are only two tests: the midterm and the final exam. Study well for those, but they are open-scripture!
Great class! Brother Griffin's classes are inspiring and every class you learn something new. He is very knowledgeable and does his best to answer any questions that you may have.
This was an amazing class, and Professor Griffin was a great teacher. I definitely recommend it.
This professor has very inspiring lectures and fascinating insights on the Book of Mormon. Very kind and understanding and easy to talk to. You can feel that he understands and is sympathetic when he talks to you.
Brother Griffin is such a kind professor! I learned so much from him & looked forward to class every day. He teaches with clarity & with the spirit & is so wonderful at answering questions & addressing timely issues, even if it means changing his original lesson plan. He helps students gain a desire to study the scriptures & live the gospel always.
I loved coming to class. I grew so much over the semester. The tests were quite a bit harder than I expected-- take a LOT of notes in your scriptures during class. Most of the test questions come from what he says during lectures. Overall, he is a really nice, reasonable guy and I wouldn't have wanted to have any other professor than him.
All around awesome. A wonderful blend of intellectual and inspirational. The TA was pretty unpredictable and arbitrary in the grading department though, especially on papers and the project you do. But if you do the weekly quizzes and pay attention so you can nail the tests, you'll be just fine. A solid choice for any religion class.
Brother Griffin was pretty cool. His lectures were very good and I felt very uplifted. I do have to say thought that the grading was pretty strict and the tests are very hard to study for because its all on stuff he just talks about in class. Tests are open scripture though so just take good notes
His class is very Spiritual and uplifting for the first 60% of the material, then it's full speed ahead to make up for everything at will be on the test. Almost all test questions are his opinion offered in class. You have to write down what he says regardless of its doctrinal soundness because it could be tested. The tests make or break you...
Brother Griffin is an amazing teacher. He really helped me study the Book of Mormon more deeply. His lectures are very engaging, and he really cares about his students. 10/10 would take this class from him again. Grading criteria is based on reading, attendance, a weekly forum, a 1-hour project/week, 2 tests, and 2 papers.
Brother Griffin is a wonderful religion teacher. I really enjoyed his class. With how the class is set up he can't go very deep into the material, but he tries to help us apply what we have learned to our own lives.
I thought this class was going to be a favorite, but I didn't really like it. Some lectures were great and I learned a lot of new insight about the Book of Mormon, but as far as the class as a whole, I wouldn't recommend it. The tests ask very specific questions from lecture that are difficult to remember and the TA's grading is unpredictable.
If you can come to class every day prepared to listen and take extensive notes, which you can use on the tests, then this is the class for you. There is one project and a weekly assignment, but they are not too time-consuming. Brother Griffin really cares about making an impact and strengthening testimonies, his enthusiasm is contagious!
Griffins lectures were amazing. He is super funny and really nice. I learned a lot and it was very spiritual. The worst part about this class is his expectations on assignments are not clear. You can address every question on the rubric and still get a bad grade.
Brother Griffin doesn't style his class to make sure you get through the Book of Mormon and pass a test (although you will almost certainly do both), his class is styled for you to find the way you can grow closer to your Savior. There's a fair amount of weekly work but it can all be life-changing if you choose to make it that way.
Brother Griffin was by far my favorite professor this year! He constantly is making you laugh while teaching you so much about the book of mormon. He is always willing to help, and answer any questions! Awesome class and professor.
Brother Griffin was amazing! By far my favorite professor this semester. Each class left me inspired with new ways to apply the scriptures in my life. I learned so much about the Book of Mormon. He was also really funny, which is always a plus. The class itself is not difficult if you put in the effort. Notes in scriptures can be used on the test.
This is the best religion professor at BYU. He is a quality person and he teaches the gospel with clarity and conviction. He really cares about his students. There are no tricks on the tests or with the assignments he gives. I always left that class on a spiritual high. Seriously, take his class!
Inspiring! Spiritual! Funny! Go to every class and take good notes in your scriptures (which can be used in exams). Put ample time into the two papers. Always be thorough in the weekly forum. Work on your project each week. Do the readings. An A is very achievable if you do all that while not too time consuming. The quintessential religion course!!
Prof. Griffin is the most inspirational, spiritual man I've met. He truly believes what he teaches and makes it understandable for his students. You can use your BoM on the tests, so write your notes and cross-references in the margins. The tests are trickier than expected, but doable. Do the reading so you can understand the concepts and content.
You should take this class from this professor. He's seriously a great lecturer. Make sure that you go to class and take notes in your BoM which you can use in tests, but also, take this class from this professor.
This was an amazing class. I learned so much and was definitely uplifted. The key to passing the tests is good notes, so make sure to pay attention and write things down during lecture, even when you think you will remember it. Prof. Griffin is also very fair in grading, and tries to help everyone do well.
You have to attend class to pass this class! His midterm and final are extremely difficult! If you're looking for an easy A then you'll need to take this class from another Professor. Bro Griffin is hilarious and a spiritual powerhouse. You'll definitely have your testimony strengthened and feel the power of the Spirit every class.
Lectures were so awesome but the class was pretty tough. You evaluate yourself on participation and reading but the essays and forums are graded really tough, even if you meet all the rubric criteria. I was very touched and learned new material everyday. I would not recommend this class to new or non members.
Go to class & pay attention & you should do alright! Buy a new copy of the scriptures to use for class & mark it up like crazy, because tests are open scripture. Weekly quiz on attendance, if you did the reading, & work on semester project. Brother Griffin has a strong testimony, & is funny and engaging. Tests are hard. Just take your time on them.
Brother Griffin is amazing! His lectures were so spiritual and touching! Attendance and reading are graded. You have a semester long project that you have to spend 60min a week working on. Tests are open scripture (take notes in scriptures). There are 2 papers that are pretty simple. This class is what a religion class should be like!
Brother Griffin is an AMAZING teacher. He is very knowledgeable and caring and really brings you closer to Christ. His lessons are wonderful and deep, but also focused on the doctrine of the gospel. He has you do a SMART project, which is an hour a week but up to you what you do. LOVE LOVE LOVE his classes.
Brother Griffin is a wonderful Book of Mormon professor. He knows his stuff and cares about his students. His midterm and final are graded heavily on lecture, so you have to be paying full attention every day and writing down everything in your scriptures to catch the lesson's doctrines. Good choice for anyone taking BOM.
Dr. Griffin has the perfect blend of humor and spirituality in his lectures. I gained so many insights about the new testament, and would highly recommend him! As long as you take good notes in class, you should get an A on the tests. There are also two term papers and a semester-long SMART project.
Brother Griffin knows his doctrine and loves teaching people about the Gospel. Yet he talks waaay too much for a religion course. At times there will be discussions, but they don't feel genuine. He'll go from cracking jokes to being over the top "spiritual serious". His lectures have a lot of assumptions from the scriptures and tests are ambiguous.
As someone who enjoys really in-depth religion classes, Griffin had everything I wanted. Not only does he spend time on the context of the scripture, but also the content. His class is very doctrinal heavy, so it's not to be taken lightly. However, this class is thought out and well prepares you with the armor of God for the day.
Brother Griffin is the best religion professor I've had! He is so inspirational and connects every reading to the students he's teaching. I absolutely love him and his teaching style. He has two papers, both are extremely easy. You must take good notes though, for the exams.
One of the best professors I've ever had. He loves his students and will work with you if you don't have the grade you want. His lectures are insightful and funny, never boring. Take direct notes in your scriptures because you can use them on the midterm and final. He curves the midterm so the average is 85%. Test's aren't hard if you take notes.
Professor Griffin is an AMAZING teacher. If you read the rubric, not forget to turn in quizzes and go to class then you will do great. The lectures were never boring to me and I learned something new and inspiring every day. I would take him every semester if he had enough different classes for me to take! You will not regret taking him.
This class is a lot of work. I loved his class and thought it was both informative and spiritual. Most of it is graded on your honesty. It is more work than I personally want to put into a religion class but I loved lectures.
I sooooo regret taking this class from him. He has the worst Utah accent. He only asks questions to people that have served missions. The tests and assignments are so unnecessary. If you don't go to class to hear one specific word, you'll miss the test question. He isn't funny. His classes are long and he talks the ENTIRE TIME!!!
Prof Griffin is the BEST religion teacher I have had at BYU. He cares about his students and teaches to their needs instead of teaching what he thinks is interesting. He is very funny and keeps class interesting. He requires very minimal homework, which includes reading from the scriptures everyday and working on a semester long project (easy).
I have been taking hard classes and this class was the light of my day. I loved hearing and learning the cool things that he would impart. The only homework required is personal study and 1 hour a week on a self-betterment project of your choosing. If you pay attention the tests are easy. Loved learning from him and would definitely suggest!
I LOVE BROTHER GRIFFIN SO MUCH! Best professor. He said the first day of class that while he was here to grade us, he was mostly here to strengthen our relationship with the Lord. He was so true to that promise. There is some work, an hour a week for a project, reading and a couple papers, but nothing too hard. Lectures are incredible! He's amazing
Bro. Griffin is the best. He doesn't want to kill your grade and knows so much about the scriptures. He does speak highly of missionaries and that could potentially bother someone who has not served a mission. You will learn how to learn from the scriptures and he gives great resources to help you learn from the bible.
Amazing religion professor. I have taken countless great, spiritual, funny, enlightening, and easy religion professors including Brothers Griffiths, Brooks, Freeman, and Dorius. Now, Brother Griffin is on that list. Enjoy an easy, spiritual class with a personal semester-long project to help you grow. Just be on top of things.
Although I loved the spirit and new insights Bro Griffin brought into every lesson, the tests for this class were somewhat difficult. If you skip lecture, or even miss out on one word you will miss questions on the tests. Other than that there is a semester long project that you have to keep up with and weekly quizzes. The tests were hard though.
Loved Brother Griffin and this class . The workload is easy but the tests are tricky, if you take notes in your scriptures and attentively attend all of the classes you'll do fine,
Loved having a class from him. He wasn't there to wreck your grade. He wants you to learn about the gospel and become closer to Christ and every assignment he gave was designed to do that. I wrote two papers, did one SMART project, read scriptures 15 min every day, and the tests weren't difficult if you use all the resources in your scriptures
Bro Griffin was a good lecturer, he's got a dad-joke sense of humor which I found somewhat entertaining. You can definitely feel the spirit when he teaches. However, I never missed a lecture, took aggressive notes and still got stumped on tests. Couldn't get higher than B-'s on both the midterm and final. Thankfully tests are only 33% of the grade
Professor Griffin is awesome! You can really see that he cares about the students and their spiritual development. He focuses on creating a meaningful experience with scripture by making it applicable and inspiring in your life. He makes class criteria very clear, and gives you lots of resources to succeed. If you do your part the class is easy.
I LOVE BROTHER GRIFFIN SO MUCH! I always felt so uplifted after this class. There's reading, a couple simple papers, and a project you work on for an hour a week. Totally manageable. and none of it is busy work, it's all meant to help you strengthen your testimony. You HAVE to go to class and take good notes to do well on the midterm and final.
I love Tyler. I learned so much and came out of class so inspired every time. He is hilarious (beware the bad puns, if you're not into lame humor you will be unhappy here) and a bit of a biblical genius. Oh and open book/open note (not technically, but you're encouraged to take notes in your scriptures and you can find every answer in there) tests.
Really wonderful professor who goes above and beyond in his teaching. He cares for every student and is extremely fair in creating the tests and gives incredible lectures. Can't wait to take more classes from him.
Did not enjoy his style of teaching. Just walks around with his Bible open preaching. hardly ever uses visual aid. For tests there is no clues as to what might be on it or what you should study, you just go in blind. So good luck remembering all his random opinions on things. First test was mostly just using Bible Dictionary but oh that final!!
My second semester with Bro Griffin and I love his classes even more now! His goal is to help us grow and he really works to make sure grades don't get in the way of that. His ability to bring others closer to Christ is incredible. If you're taking from him, ENJOY!
He really knows his stuff and try to help everyone understand the gospel better and tries his best to answer your questions. You will have to read 30 min daily and work on a project throughout the semester. I think I am an average student and I thought that this class wasn't that hard, but by far my favorite class and amazing teacher.
Great Professor and he lets you use Book of Mormon on the tests... SO TAKE LOTS OF NOTES!
Bro Griffin is a very good teacher. The class was fairly easy as long as you attend every lecture. The mid-term and the final were easy and I wouldve received an A if I didnt take the test 30 mins before the testing center closed. A lot of the work assigned is on your honor. There are two 3-4pg papers but they are easy. Take this class from him :)
I really enjoyed this class. There was work, but it wasn't too hard. Online quiz once a week, one hour to work on a project per week, two papers, and the midterm and final. Take good notes in your scriptures- tests are open scripture!
Tyler Griffin is a great guy, his lectures are entertaining and packed with material. There was more homework than I had expected (taken during summer term) but it was manageable. I would recommend taking at least one class from him.
Easily one of the best professors I've had at BYU. I LOVED coming to his class. So spiritual. Shows he truly loves us. His family is the cutest. He is a great teacher. Take notes in your BOM!
He has amazing lectures and really knows his stuff but there is a lot of homework that starts to seem like busywork! The tests are difficult but open note so you need to write down lots from his lectures.
Most of his classes are very interesting and he helps you take a new spin on the parables you already know. You only have 2 graded papers and he gives you no study guide but promises to curve the exam until the average is 84%
Great professor. He cares about his students and made it clear he doesnt want to kill your gpa with a 2-credit religion course. Lectures are interesting and work load is very doable.
My first religion professor at BYU and he is great at what he does. The class reminded me a lot of seminary in high school and he tries hard to make a spiritual impact on his students every lecture. He takes the time to answer questions thoughtfully and takes his students seriously. He's just a good guy. A+
So everyone talks up Griffin but his class SUCKS! The assignments are all super confusing with 8 options that each have 8 options that are all a huge amount of work for a religion class. Tests contain quite a bit of 'the doctrine of Griffin.'
He is a super nice guy and has a lot of interesting things to teach. Take good notes during lectures and write them in your scriptures. The tests are challenging for a religion class, but it is open scripture. There are a lot of assignments that aren't too hard and will boost your grade as long as you don't forget to do them. TA grading was iffy.
Brother Griffin is a great professor that provides spiritually uplifting lectures and wonderful insight into religious texts. I would highly recommend taking from him! (as long as you can handle puns and dad jokes)
Such an uplifting class. I learn so much and it's not hard. Just one short post online every week and you set your own scripture study goal. Not too much reading, super interesting class, I've learned a ton. Tests are open scripture, pretty fair. Just take good notes during lecture and you'll do fine. If you take NT, definitely do it with him!
Amazing professor! Gives awesome lectures, really cares about his students. Very inspirational. He also knows his stuff. He doesn't give a study guide for the test or anything so you mostly have to rely on your notes.
I felt the spirit in this class and learned everyday. I was sad when the semester ended, and I cried the last day of class. He was accommodating to my needs, and is fair. Tests are hard but that's BYU for you. Your papers are graded by the TA, and grading can be tough. Overall I loved the class though. Taking notes is VERY important.
I took Griffin for both REL A 211 and 212 and loved him both times!! In lecture write down everything he says in your scriptures & do all the pre-readings, & you'll pass the tests. He has you do a forum post each week, a SMART project over the semester, & 2 short papers (or worksheets, your choice). But all are VERY manageable if you plan ahead!!
If I were you I would definitely take this class. He understands that Religion classes should be spiritually enlarging and not the hardest class you take all semester. Every class was super interesting and as long as you show up to class you will get an A. He allows you to use your scriptures on tests so make sure you take good notes.
He is an amazing teacher that really does his best to teach what the students need. He will take the time to answer questions. Tests were hard, make sure you have notes in your scriptures. Hard to know what he wants you to study. Work load wasn't bad at all and he is super open to helping and answering questions. Loved his class
I LOVED this class. Brother Griffin really knows what he's talking about. He's studied a lot about Jerusalem and the life of Christ, and is always encouraging us to connect with Heaven, so it does require some personal dedication. There's an hour of a personal project every week, and regular reading. Tests are open scripture, so write notes there.
So many people talked Brother Giffin up, and don't get me wrong, he is a great guy and a spiritual giant, but I was pretty let down by his class. Some days he was really hard to follow. He only talks during lecture, no slides to help guide. His tests are way hard, but good to learn from. Go to class and take really good notes to do well on tests.
He really tried to give the highest grades he could justify. His lectures always contained new details and insights which kept them interesting. Griffin knows his stuff and really tries to make the class as easy as possible. I should mention that he loves puns and they're absolutely atrocious.
Brother Griffin knows his stuff. He is very knowledgeable about the context of the scriptures. He tries to relate it to your personal life. The classes weren't spiritual, some were, but he is constantly improving. No powerpoints just take good notes. You use scriptures on the tests so take good notes and make sure to put them in your scriptures.
Griffin truly cares about his students and is very knowledgable. His tests are somewhat challenging but all other assignments are easy A's.
If you don't like puns, don't take him. If you don't like amazing life-changing lessons about the Savior, don't take him. If hate having classes that you can get an A in, don't take him. Your grade is based on attendance, daily scripture study, a SMART project, and tests. AMAZING professor.
KNOWS his scriptures, knows how to give a good, insightful, and engaging lecture, and knows how to make you put time into growing your testimony. A couple papers, digital dialogues every week, quizzes every week - pretty good amount of work for a religion class but worth it. Tests are hard - study for them.
Weekly smart project, weekly quizzes. DO NOT MISS THE QUIZZES!! Open scripture tests, but still pretty time-consuming and a little challenging. Besides the grading aspect, I absolutely loved being in this class! Prof. Griffin has a good balanace between being spiritual and being entertaining. Loooots of puns! Absolutely loved going to class!
Brother Griffin is so kind, thoughtful, and very sincere. He is knowledgable about many subjects and gave me a lot to think about in reference to things I know a lot about.
Bro. Griffin was an AMAZING teacher for the New Testament! You can always tell he loves teaching from the scriptures, and he always gave historical context to give greater understanding. His tests are open scripture, and all assignments/papers have clear expectations, so it is not hard to do well in his class either.
Professor Griffey was my favorite religion teacher Ive had because he is so passionate, relatable, sincere, and knowledgeable. He was pretty self conscious about his teaching skills, but I think he was an incredible teacher. Ive never met someone so knowledgeable of the scriptures, and his testimony of Christ was incredible.
I really appreciated what I learned about the New Testament in this class. He is extremely knowledgeable and hates how we have to have tests. The final was harder than expected but he curved the class up anyway.
Brother Griffen made most classes interesting but when it came to the tests it was really hard to do well. The tests were pretty deceitful, all were multiple choice or matching, and every choice was something that we had been taught growing up. So if you are good at testing/religion take from him class was pretty good.
He talked incredibly fast and often went off on side-tangents during Book of Mormon lecture. Would not recommend. Find an easier religion teacher, because religion should be far more enjoyable than it was with Brother Griffin. Tests were open scripture (which in my opinion made it more difficult).
Bro. Griffin is my favorite religion teacher I've taken a religion class from since being here! He provided amazing insights and really cared about us and our understanding of clear doctrine, and separated his opinions clearly. My testimony was strengthened immensely after this class, and he's passionate about our spiritual growth.
Great professor! I actually learned new stuff. He's very knowledgable about the scriptures and I definitely feel like I get more out of reading than I ever have.
There are 2 worksheets and a paper required, which take some serious time, but the regular weekly assignments are not too bad. LOVE the lectures. Hes a fantastic teacher!
I had Brother Griffin for 2 separate classes because I loved the way he teaches so much. All of his exams are open-scripture, and you are encouraged to take notes in your scriptures during class lectures. Exams are 95% from lectures, so just show up, take good notes about what he teaches, and you will get an easy A.
Amazing teacher. Clearly outlines what he expects and never overwhelms you. Going to class is mandatory but I found myself looking forward to it. Tests are open scripture.
He is a great guy, but his tests are slightly subjective and are weighted really heavily. Take notes in class. That is all that you are assessed on.
compassionate guy. his test are open scripture which makes it impossible to do well if you don't listen to his take on specific scriptures and write it in your scriptures. midterm and final are full of subjective questions and only the key to answering them is listening to everything in class. if you like dad jokes and feeling uncomfortable, SENDIT
Brother Griffin's lectures were amazing, although he talked extremely fast and would move from one thing to another really fast. Not a lot of course work, but I found his tests to be unreasonably difficult.
such a nice guy! very understanding! but lectures are very random and intense, felt like seminary on steroids. his tests were very tricky and based solely on his research in the scriptures. not the class to take if you want an uplifting, care-free religion class
Truly awe inspiring. Brother Griffin is my favorite religion professor at BYU by far. In the beginning his class might sound like it will be a lot of work, but as you get into the semester you realize that the work really doesn't feel like work at all. His lectures are amazing and he truly does seek to adjust his lesson plans to the class.
He is very genuine and it's clear that he cares a lot about his students. He knows a lot about New Testament times and offered interesting insights. I read one of his books and really liked it. I would recommend him. :)
I do not have the words to describe how big of an influence Brother Griffin was during my first semester at BYU. He truly reflected the love of Christ. When I run into people who had him too, we both get giddy and start jumping up and down, he's just wonderful. Not for everyone, but if you like sitting and soaking in the Spirit, take him. Please.
Brother Griffin's Book of Mormon class changed my life! He is so inspired and really cares about connecting you with heaven. He not only teaches the scriptures, but he applies them to daily life. As for the grade, if you take good notes in your scriptures, and show up to class, you will do fine! I highly recommend taking a class from him!
Brother Griffin is an amazing teacher! He knows the scriptures well. There are weekly participation points that you give yourself for reading, attending class, and working on your semester spiritual project. There are 2 Exams and 2 papers. The classes are always super insightful and very uplifting. By far my favorite class of this semester.
VERY nice and inspirational. Lectures always very interesting, you grade yourself on attendance. Tests are open scripture which helps. Hard to distinguish what material from lecture will be on test. As a convert it wasn't as easy for me as everyone else, but he gives points back on tests for people in situations like mine if you do corrections.
Go to class, take good notes and really pay attention--you will get an A. Bro. Griffin allows you to use your scriptures on tests, so take good notes! He gives amazing lessons and I really feel the Spirit in his class. He has lots of puns and really cares for his students. Easy to access outside of class and ends each lecture with know you're loved
Brother Griffin is incredible at teaching the clear doctrine of Christ in new ways I've never heard before! Also learned intellectual things about the coming forth of the Book of Mormon, Church History, ancient practices, culture, history, language, etc. Course is designed to help us BECOME better through the doctrine of Christ.
Brother Griffin is the best teacher I've ever had. He deeply cares about each student. The class is designed to be easy to pass while allowing the students to have amazing spiritual experiences. I absolutely love this class. Brother Griffin really knows what he's talking about, he has tons of amazing resources for the scriptures. Best teacher ever!
Dr Griffin is an excellent teacher. He truily cares about the students he teaches. He spiritually prepares before class to determine what the Lord wants him to teach. That was mine personal experience. I would reccomend him as a professor to anyone. Expecially to students who are not members of the church or who are Not fluent English speakers.
He is a great professor! He really loves his student, brings the spirit and teaches engagingly. If you pay attention and take notes in class the tests are easy to pass. BE READY TO TAKE NOTES AND MARK SCRIPTURES IN CLASS. He is really knowledgeable and personable. He'll explain things you never thought about. It's great. TAKE IT.
Brother Griffin is an amazing religion professor. I am always able to feel the Spirit in his class and he gives such great insight into the scriptures. The tests are easy if you attend lecture and take notes in your scriptures. There are only 2 tests and they are both open scripture. This class really focuses on spiritual growth.
Brother Griffen is a must have for a religion class. His tests are reasonably easy. He is very clear about what will be on the test and offers lots of help to get a good grade. There isn't any reading, besides what we should be doing daily in the Book of Mormon. His lectures were hilarious and inspiring. Great experience.
Super nice guy who always has a late deadline in case you can't finish something over the weekend. Really loved his lectures. Exams are open-scripture so take all your notes in your scriptures and you'll be fine. A majority of the exam is based off of lectures so be sure to go every class.
Professor Griffin really cares about his students and their spiritual growth. There were quite a few assignments, but they were all geared towards improving yourself. As long as you write down everything that he tells you to in your scriptures and keep on top of your assignments, this class is very manageable.
Write everything he says in your scriptures, because things you don't expect might show up on the test. Otherwise, this was my favorite class and he's the sweetest guy ever. I looked forward to it.
Brother Griffin is a REALLY good guy. That being said, his teaching style didn't really resonate with me and I wouldn't take his class again. But A LOT of people love him. What to expect: daily scripture study (minimum of 15 min), weekly digital dialog, semester project 1 hr/wk, and come to class. No quizzes. 1 midterm, 1 final. Pretty easy.
Bro Griffin is awesome! His lectures were inspiring and really uplifting--I grew a lot spiritually from his class and assignments. His tests are open scripture, so you need to attend every lecture and take LOTS of notes in your scriptures. Very helpful outside of class and ended every lecture with "know that you're loved". Amazing professor.
Take this class! Brother Griffin is amazing. Pay attention in lectures and you'll be fine. I can't wait to take another class from him.
Brother Griffin was an inspirational teacher. His tests can be difficult, but they were open book and notes for anything in your BoM. There were a few larger projects, but as long as you read the rubric, you'll do well. He does a really good job separating his own opinions from doctrine and encouraging you to think for yourself about the gospel.
Prof. Griffin is awesome. He is willing to answer any questions students have. He focuses more on learning and less on work. He has a large arsenal of dad jokes that he uses throughout the course. He shared tons of insights about the New Testament. I understand the NT so much better now. The tests are open scripture.
Brother Griffin is the absolute best. If your testimony is weak, mediocre, or strong take it from him! You will love the spiritual nature of the class and will feel empowered to be a better disciple of Christ. Brother Griffin has a gift to be able to teach by the Spirit. Be prepared to put in a little work, but also prepare for a great experience.
Professor Griffin is amazing! I would totally take him again. He is kind, caring and passionate about the gospel. His lectures are really inspiring. Tests are open-scripture. If you come to lectures and do your project and papers, you will likely get an A. His class strengthened my faith in and love of Christ. Great teacher and great person!
Brother Griffins knowledge of and enthusiasm for the gospel is infectious. Beyond discussing stories of the Book of Mormon, he teaches you how to study the Book of Mormon, which changed my life. And his dad jokes are hilarious. Assignments include scripture study, a semester-long project, two papers, weekly discussion responses, and two tests.
I've taken two classes from Bro. Griffin. He's a great choice for a Religion class. Super easy homework and essays, open-scripture exams, really chill class. He is just awesome.
Wow, the best lectures I've had at BYU. He is an amazing man that brings the Spirit in SO strong. You are graded on 1) quizzes 2) two papers 3) a semester-long project 4) post on a group discussion board on LearningSuite 5) and a midterm and Final. Note: you are allowed your Book of Mormon into the exam with your notes in it. Tests from lecture.
Brother Griffin is amazing. You will not regret taking his class. He really wants you to get the most out of class, so the homework and tests aren't hard. Just show up, pay attention, take a few notes, and you'll do just fine.
LOVED taking this class. would go and just sit in one of his lectures because they are amazing but his tests were impossible.
If you like dad jokes and an incredible spiritual atmosphere, Bro Griffin is THE professor. He brought the spirit to his class so fast. He requires a semester-long project, but he is very clear that the intention of that project is to bring you closer to Christ, and there are many options to personalize it. 490% reccommend.
Brother Griffin is really good at providing a unique atmosphere of spiritual learning. His exams could be a little tricky, but they are open-scripture. He is clear and easy to follow. There is a semester-long project, some papers, and a weekly journal summarizing stuff you learned from class/readings. Hes great to work with, definitely recommend.
He is a great guy, but I personally did not enjoy his class. His tests are okay and they are open scripture, but you scriptures won't be of much use. I know everyone loves him, but if you are not into corny jokes and memorized lessons that he recites, don't take his class. His grading is okay but I felt that he did not respect my effort.
The tests are primary about what Professor Griffin says in class, not what the scriptures say. Write down everything he says in class, and you will do well. There is a semester-long project and a 4-6 page paper. There are weekly assignments.
Really good religion professor. Not a hard class.
Genuinely invested in your success, and an easy class. You walk in and feel loved. it's such a nice break from the weight of other, more difficult classes. It felt like a breath of fresh air.
I loved Bro. Griffin. The class was mostly a participation grade. His tests were hard but not a major part of the grade. I absolutely loved his humility and willingness to acknowledge what he did/didn't know. Best religion professor that I have had at BYU.
Awesome guy, very spiritual and inspirational. At first, I thought it was too much work for a 2 credit religion class. But after getting used to the workload, it wasn't that bad. Don't skip class, take good notes, go to the reviews, and do your reading/don't get behind on weekly assignments and you won't get lower than a B. Best option for REL 250.
Proffessor Griffin is a really nice guy; He's very knowledgeable about the scriptures and I really enjoyed the lectures. But, his class had way to much work for a 2 credit religion class. The most frustrating aspect of the class was the SMART project. You have to spend an hour a week on a project that only represents 5% of your grade.
10/10 would take another class w/ Brother Griffin, even on Zoom. He has a different style from the big names at BYU (Hank Smith/Brad Wilcox, etc.) but he is a gem. He is so kind and his class is not hard. Perfect amount of work for a religion class. Exams (midterm&final) are open scripture w/ all your notes in them. He has the best dad jokes around
There's a lot of reading for this course. It was a fine course, tests are open book, but it wasn't my favorite religion class. He has some neat insights but can get really distracted. There's a semester long project, two tests, and a paper. And so much reading, I really can't stress that enough.
Professor Griffin is one of the most knowledgable people with the scriptures I've ever known. I really felt like I grew a lot intellectually and spiritually throughout this class. He is willing to work with every student on their grade, and curves the test and overall class score if it is low. 100% recommend, you won't find a better professor!
Amazing and passionate professor who loved teaching about his topics. He was very in depth with his lectures and made sure that his students understood what he was talking about. Inspirational assignments that helped a lot. Very engaged in the lives of his students.
The lectures were very insightful and very impactful. I could never figure out how to study for the exams because the modules are set up in a way that its hard to study the material without doing the whole thing over. This is why the tests are annoying, but nonetheless the material is very interesting.
Professor Griffin was awesome! His lectures are so interesting, you will learn a ton from this course! His class was the perfect level of difficulty for a religion class. It wasn't too hard like some of the other religion classes. Of course, you need to put in the effort and take good notes for his open-scripture tests, but the work is reasonable.
Spends more time talking about old Jewish traditions, buildings, and translations rather than focusing on the actual scriptures. Also, if you didn't write down the exact words he said on October 13th at 9:35am, you're missing a test question.
I absolutely LOVE Professor Griffin. His classes were so funny but also so spiritual, and I learned something new each time I went to class. He is really patient and will happily work with you when you need help. I'm planning on taking more of his classes. There wasn't too much homework and it was all pretty easy. This was my favorite class!
Brother Griffin is a homie, if you do the readings and show up to class you will do well. Take notes the entire time during lecture and review those notes in preparation for the midterm and final. I didn't study for them just reviewed my notes and I got a good grade. He goes into depth on traditions and facts that connect well to gospel principles!
This guy is awesome and he give a lot of unnecessary work like a lot of other religion professors. He has a lot of dad jokes and genuinely cares. He's a great guy and professor. 10/10 recommend and I would definitely take him again.
Bro. Griffin is so awesome. His main goal is to help your testimony grow and have a greater appreciation for the Book of Mormon and the Savior Jesus Christ. Because of this, the class is not hard. I felt the Spirit so much in this class. I never wanted the class to end. Only a couple of big assignments and not graded harshly. Take notes!
I had Brother Griffin 3 times (literally for half of all my religion classes at BYU). He is extremely knowledgeable and perfectly balances the academic with the spiritual. If you want to learn a lot and build your testimony, definitely take a class from Brother Griffin. It requires regular work and effort, but it's not that hard!
I would take every religion class from Bro Griffin if I could. His classes are so spiritually uplifting and only require work that he believes will benefit his students' testimonies. There is a normal amount of weekly reading from the scriptures, weekly self-evaluated quizzes, an easy paper and project, and a midterm/final. TAKE BROTHER GRIFFIN!
If you wanna feel like you are worth a million bucks? then take this class. Brother Griffin is literally my favorite religion prof I've had. His class changes lives. His class is designed so that you become more like Christ which should be the goal of every religion class. He's funny and sensitive to the Spirit.
Tyler Griffin is awesome! He really cares about his students and does a great job at including everyone's questions, thoughts, and feelings. He is one of the best religion professors that I've had and definitely recommend him to anyone looking for an awesome religion class!
He was very kind and spiritual, really easy to listen to. One of my favorite religious professors! The project isn't difficult at all, you could make it up in a day and get an A if you are clever enough. Just lots of details about the Gospel to memorize and LOTS OF HW.
I loved Bro Griffin and the class is literally so easy if you just show up for the lectures he tells you everything you need to know to get an A!
Brother Griffin Us the best religion professor! He truly cares about each of his students & lets us know that were loved. His lectures are seriously the best, he blows my mind every single class. He is very accommodating to non-LDS students or recent converts. Its not hard to get a good grade in his class, he doesnt want to bring your GPA down.
Reminds me of Chris Traeger from Parks & Rec! Super positive, teller of dad jokes. I had to tell him about an unusual circumstance & he handled it better than I expected. Some lectures were more dry than others, but you can tell he has a deep passion for what he does. TAKE FROM HIM TO AVOID A GIANT PAPER LIKE THE OTHER TEACHERS!
Brother Griffin is very kind and extremely helpful. It's not too hard to get an A in his class. Just pay attention to his lectures, which he explains amazingly, so it's not hard to follow him and take notes. Would 10/10 recommend him.
So spiritual. Most applicable test I've ever seen but super easy. TAKE GOOD NOTES. that is all you have to do. I would suggest sticking sticky notes in chapters of scriptures of what he talks about and writing down almost everything he says. Do this and you'll finish your tests in 5 min. Got 96's on midterm and final. Amazing class, not a hard A.
Super easy, super interesting, very caring, easy class to pass that was honestly very enjoyable too.
Prof Griffin is the absolute best!! He is so intellectual, gave such amazing insight to every scripture, and I felt the spirit so strong in his class every day. He cares about the success of his students and makes getting a good grade easy as long as you listen and learn from his lectures and strengthen your testimony. I want to take from him again
Brother Griffin is such a good religion Professor! You just have pre readings for each class which aren't too bad, and then a semester project that you get to pick yourself. The tests are open scripture so if you show up to class and take notes then they are pretty easy.
Wow!Best religion class ever. So spiritual and powerful, I learned so much and would take this class over and over again. Brother Griffin is so funny and very caring, and has a deep knowledge of the Gospel. 10 out of 10 would recommend!
Griffin is a funny dude and all but I SPENT 5 HOURS ON THE FINAL AND GOT A C. Like foreal, that's insane. Definitely the hardest religion test I've ever taken. Not worth the pain and the agony felt after a long day of racking my brain and not succeeding.
Brother Griffin is BY FAR the best religion professor I have ever had. If he were teaching this coming semester (which he didn't appear to be) I would 10/10 take another one of his classes! He made the class enjoyable and wants his class to be fun and not bring down your GPA. Make sure to take notes throughout, no matter how insignificant it seems.
Brother Griffin is an amazing professor. I felt the Spirit strongly in every class. He genuinely loves his students and just wanted us to grow and succeed. The tests weren't too hard as long as you come to class and take notes, they're open scripture. The project and paper were totally reasonable. I hope to take more classes from him! He's a genius
This was a really great class, I learned a lot about Christ and strengthened my testimony. The midterm and final are open-scripture which was really nice. The reading was sometimes a lot but it's doable.
Dr. Griffin is kind and his class wasn't overly difficult. A large percentage of your grade is participation (you grade yourself in a weekly quiz). There was 1 paper and 2 tests, which weren't that bad. Lectures were great and really inspiring. He knows his stuff. 10/10 would recommend.
Your typical religion professor. He is passionate about his responsibility, but sometimes he turns into your traditional evangelical preacher and then says "I feel like I'm preaching to you". I'm not a fan of that part. But his class is simple and entertaining. Here's the key to his class: TAKE NOTES DURING CLASSEVERY CLASSIN YOUR SCRIPTURES.
Easily my favorite religion professor. You could tell how much he cared about his students and what he taught. That being said, he didn't take himself too seriously and make the class overly difficult. Participation matters, and just a couple of major grades (essay and 2 exams). Got so much out of this class and would love to take another from him!
He is overly kind and caring. His lectures are engaging but a little sporadic. The tests are tough (especially the final), but they're open scriptures with notes written in the margins. Take notes on everything he ever says. You'll grow and learn.
I took Christ and the Everlasting Gospel from Prof. Griffin during the semester when Covid shut everything down. He handled the transition to online learning flawlessly. He is such an amazing teacher and his class always left me uplifted. He is incredibly spiritual. Participate and be engaged and do your assignments on time and you will be fine!
Brother Griffin is super passionate about his job and has a great testimony. There were some great insights that he had on some things, although he does express a lot of conjectures and opinions sometimes. The reading was excessive. He is definitely invested in his work.
Tests are open scripture. Class is hit or miss. It usually isn't all that interesting. Grading is fine, but you can get knit-picked for the most random things. If you want to hear a ton of subjective thoughts on New Testament scripture, take this class. If you want to hear more objective history and scripture, take a different class.
Prof. Griffin cares very deeply about all of his students. Attend every lecture, attendance and awareness level are a large part of your grade. He also quizzes directly from his lectures - even something he said in passing. There are a few papers and projects but they are graded pretty easily and are genuinely fun to complete. I enjoyed the class.
Griffin is a very nice professor. The material for the tests wasn't clear. You half to go to class and make sure to write down every thing he says and hope that's enough for the test. There is really no structure to his teaching because he just talks the whole time. There isn't anything to help you following a long with what he is teaching.
Amazing professor and course, would highly recommend if you need the credit. I can't do justice to how well professor Griffin's lectures are (check him out on "Book of Mormon central" as well), very smiley and caring guy. It's an easy class, just show up, whatever notes you write in your scriptures will most likely be on the test.
I love Professor Griffin! He is the most caring and amazing professor I have ever met. If you show up to class and take notes in your scriptures, then the midterm and final are pretty easy. Overall an easy class, but I learned so much from him.
Super kind and amazing professors. His lectures were super fun, and as long as you attend class, you will do fine. If you skip lectures, there is no way to study for exams. He allows open note tests, so take notes in class, and you'll do great. Best religion professor!
Inspiring and powerful. Attendance is critical, and tests were a little harder than I expected. The SMART project also took a lot of work. But class was spiritual and moving. A perfect blend of academic and religious. Highly recommend this professor.
Professor Griffin was so caring and amazing! I felt like I learned so much in this class! Definitely stay on top of your assignments and make sure to take notes during lectures.
Because he's been a seminary teacher exclusively, a lot of the insights given in class were repeats of what I had learned in seminary and were feel-good gospel messages-which are great, but it you're looking for something more interesting/academic/insightful I would steer clear of professors coming from the CES route.
I loved my BOM class this semester because of Brother Griffin! He explores some really cool aspects of the BOM and breaks down fundamental gospel principles while doing it. Beware that his tests are taken entirely from his lectures so if you miss a class get the notes from a friend! All tests are open scripture including margin notes, so not bad.
Brother Griffin is an amazing professor! He makes lectures interesting and easy to understand. I enjoyed learning from Brother Griffin and his style of teaching (both visual and auditory) helped me to understand material. Make sure you take notes of scripture references he makes in class and any visuals he draws on the board.
Honestly a very spiritual professor. Make sure to listen to his lectures and take notes because his tests are exactly what he talks about in class. Weekly attendance quizzes and there's one big paper and one big project but overall if you're paying attention in class and putting in effort it's way easy.
Griffin was great. He wants his students to succeed and recognizes that a religion class shouldn't affect their GPA. Attendance isn't mandatory, but the exams are based on what he talks about in class, so you need to show up to get a good grade. 2 exams, 1 essay, and a semester-long project (easy) - easy grading. Great guy.
LOVED him!! I felt the spirit so much, and I learned a lot about the Book of Mormon! I would definitely recommend taking this class. There is a paper, a project, two tests, and super small weekly assignments. Just try to take lots of notes in this class. The tests are open note, but he will ask specific things from class so write as much as you can
Bro. Griffin is such a kind, well-intentioned person. His tests can be challenging, but should be doable if you attend class every day. I didn't love the research paper we had to do, but his amazing teaching made up for it.
Brother Griffin is more worried about his student's spiritual progression than their memorization of the Book of Mormon. Expect those results. Grade wise, it is easy to get an A if you attend class, take notes, and turn in the few assignments. 10/10 would recommend.
Prof. Griffin cares about his student's spiritual progression more than their ability to memorize the scriptures. I loved this class. There is a paper and a SMART project that take time, along with weekly quizzes, but if you go to class and take detailed notes you will be fine. My testimony definitely grew in this class.
Professor Griffin is an amazing and easy religion professor. One midterm and one final, both open scripture and super easy. I don't think I got through a single class without tearing up because of how strong the Spirit was. I absolutely love his doctrinal insights and he is accessible outside of class if you ever want to chat.
Br. Griffin is awesome! He assigns a decent amount of work: one paper, two exams, daily scripture reading 15 min. a day, weekly attendance quiz with a mini essay, and a semester project that you spend an hour a week on. He's really inspiring and faith building, and I love his lectures!
If you are coming into BYU, or need a good class to take, TAKE GRIFFIN. Good lectures, easy yet engaging assignments, and, I can't stress this enough, super kind and caring guy. If an assignment isn't spiritually engaging, go talk to him and he will work through giving you one that is. Weekly micro essays are simple. Getting an A (-) is easy.
So amazing. Professor Griffin is my favorite byu religion proffessor. His classes are inspirational, interesting, and completely doable. Some byu religion teachers try to make religion classes outrageously hard. This is not the case for Professor Griffin. Can not recommend him highly enough.
Best professor I've ever had! Brother Griffin has a great sense of humor and always makes the class interesting. It was honestly one of the highlights of my day! He does a great job combining feeling the spirit and actually studying the scriptures. There's no end to his depth of knowledge and his class has honestly changed how I study scriptures!
Bro. Griffin is keeping up the good work. Really tries to emphasize personal life-long learning. His lectures were amazing because they pointed to Christ and our journey to Him. You choose what essay topic to write about, what scripture project you want to work on. Be consistent with assignments and don't forget to get notes when absent!
He is a super awesome guy, and really focuses on what you need, and has you decide and act on what will help your spiritual development the most- just how it should be. The one drawback are his tests are kind of the opposite: they are hard, frustrating and nitpicky (although you can get a good score). Don't forget to turn in your weekly quizzes!
By far my favorite religion professor, and his lectures always left me feeling inspired to read the scriptures and become more Christlike. Hardly any busy work, two semester long projects and attendance is required for points. Read the syllabus though and you can't go wrong. Easy to get an A, but his lectures and insights are worth going to class.
I can not rave about him enough, has the most incredible insights and the Spirit is so strong in this class. There's a lot of reading, but covers most of the BoM so makes sense. He doesn't want the class to be hard and there's only one paper. If you want to do well on the final go to class, questions are specific to in class discussions.
This class was AMAZING!! 10/10 would recommend! You cannot go wrong with Brother Griffin. His lectures were 100% focused on helping apply the scriptures and the gospel to real life. I gained so many new insights every day. Class is super easy if you show up and take notes in your scriptures that you can then take into the open scripture tests.
His lectures were always very spiritually and intellectually enlarging, helping me to look at the Book of Mormon in a different way and then be able to apply that to my life. The homework wasn't bad either, it never felt like busy work, and I feel that I grew from it.
Nice guy who knows his stuff and cares a lot. It did feel like a seminary class to me, and I would've liked something a bit more challenging. A good class regardless. I definitely recommend him as a professor for new students looking to ease their way into college.
Brother Griffin is AMAZING! He brings the spirit so strong during the lectures, and I found that I was taking notes more because I wanted these insights in my scriptures rather than just to do well on the tests. He's always making jokes and puns, but can very effectively teach heavy and difficult topics. Take Brother Griffin! He is the best!
I know this is said maybe too often, but this professor changed my life! His lectures were always spectacular and I loved coming to class to learn more about the BoM. His personal stories and insights changed the way I see the BoM. He goes out of his way to make sure class is not hard at all. Sign up early, waitlist is always long with him!
This class was a great first religion class for my first semester of college. The spirit was so strong during lectures and I have a greater understanding and appreciation for the Book of Mormon than I did before. The assignments are not too hard and the midterm/final are open scripture, so take notes in them!
He is the best! I always looked forward to going to class. Every time, I left feeling uplifted and learned some really interesting and helpful things. The class really wasn't hard, and everything we had to do actually benefitted my life, no stupid busy work. I would highly recommend!
Brother Griffin is incredible! I walked away from each lecture feeling so inspired and learned so many cool facts about the Book of Mormon. Super easy class, just a short weekly assignment. One big paper and a smaller one at the end of the year. He genuinely cares about his students so much and is very flexible. Can't recommend highly enough!
Majority of this grade is self-reported, with a paper, project, and midterm/final. Anything you write into your scriptures is available to you on tests. This is the best religion class experience I've ever had. Griffin is engaging and loves to teach! If any assignment isn't meaningful for you, talk to him and he'll change it to make it worthwhile.
This class was amazing! Bro Griffin created an incredible spiritual environment. You kind of get out what you put into it, so read your scriptures daily and contribute to the lecture. ALSO put notes INTO your scriptures either on the margins or with sticky notes. Thank me later ;)
Brother Griffin was AMAZING! He always helped me feel the spirit and stretched me spiritually through the semester. If you already have a good scripture study habit this class will be very easy. Weekly quizzes are self-reported and you have one paper, the tests are open scripture so as long as you listen and write down some things you'll be golden!
Outside of the semester-long project you are supposed to work on an hour per week, I spent maybe 30-40 minutes on this course every week. Professor Griffin's lectures were always very uplifting to attend, just pay close attention to things he mentions in lectures since he does test on some very specific things on the midterm and final.
I LOVED Professor Griffin! So much that I am taking any other class of his next semester. He is so passionate and knowledgeable. Just pay attention to lectures and write notes during them and you will be completely fine.
Tbh he just bugged me. He tries really hard to be inspirational and it just didn't land for me personally. I didn't like his style, it just didn't feel genuine. Attendance is 100% mandatory since he has no slides or study guide of any sort. Tests are based on what he says in class. If you're not into cheesy, EFY, Utah seminary vibes, then not for u
Brother Griffin is FANTASTIC! I look forward to his class every day, and wish I could take all of my religion classes from him! He is absolutely hilarious, but also brings the spirit to every class. He is very knowledgeable and approachable and kind, and an overall amazing person. I have learned so much from him and highly recommend his classes!
I had Brother Griffin for his UNIV 101 class (a very different dynamic from his religion classes) but I loved every single second of the lectures. We'd go on field trips and learn together as a small group (about 20 of us). He is an inspired man and it is clear he teaches by the Spirit. If he ever teaches UNIV 101 again, take it from him!
His tests are mostly speculation that rely on his interpretation of scripture. The questions have little to do with important information regarding the bible (specifically the new testament). I would not recommend this teacher.
Prof. Griffin is wonderful. There are weekly self-reports on scripture study that aren't difficult and stimulate spiritual experiences. All exam answers came from things he shared in class, which I wrote in scriptures that could be used on tests. He loves God and made the religion class experience an uplifting one without being burdensome.
Lots of projects, so if you're busy then this is not the class for you. It's a little difficult to remember to do all of the little things that are required every week. However, if you have the time, he's a great professor and very inspirational. You can really tell he cares about the gospel and about helping students come closer to Christ.
He teaches Christ & His Everlasting Gospel in a real solid way. Not too hard. Not too time intensive. The tests are online at home. Not proctored (at least when I took it). I'd recommend taking the class from him.
I loved Professor Griffin as he was very genuine and really cared about his students. The class has very little homework and the tests are too bad. You need to go to lecture and take good notes as the tests are on specific things talked about in class.
Brother Griffin is an amazing professor! I learned so much more about the Book of Mormon, and it was clear from every lecture how much he loved teaching this class. The tests were mostly based on various things he covered in the lectures, so it is really important to take good notes.
Brother Griffin's class is the class you take when you want to grow closer to Christ. Some of the papers and projects will require decent work, but not too much for a religion class. His lectures are amazing. Take detailed notes of his lectures for the tests.
By far my favorite class and professor. I have never learned so much about Jesus Christ and felt the spirit so much in a class at BYU. He is truly incredible.
Professor Griffin's class is a must-take. Engaging lectures, minimal homework, and fair tests. Unstuckstudy AI was a game-changer for exam prep. Definitely would recommend this class.
I absolutely love Brother Griffin. I always leave his classes feeling uplifted. He is very clear that he does not want his class to destroy our grade but rather his goal is our spiritual growth. So glad I took his class and definitely would take again.
Brother Griffin is AMAZING. It's clear he follows the Spirit. The class is not so easy that I never cared about it, but also was the perfect workload for a GE class. His lectures can change your life if you let it. He is always accessible outside of class and he really does care.
This was an amazing class!!!!!!!! I loved his lectures and he teaches the secular and spiritual facets of the Book of Mormon very well. I totally would recommend this class for knocking out a GE for religion--or just looking for elective credits
Loved this class! Tests were open scripture, open whatever notes were written in your scriptures. Teachings & Doctrines is definitely the best Book of Mormon class, way better than the first or second half classes. I feel like I learned a lot and Professor Griffin did a great job doing his part. He has good perspectives & teaches relatable concepts
TAKE THIS CLASS FROM HIM!!! professor griffin is truly so amazing. this class will help you spiritually and academically, if you let it. the tests are open scripture so don't skip lectures because they're so good but also because you will need/benefit from the notes you take down in your scriptures during class.
BROTHER GRIFFIN IS THE BEST! Seriously the most caring and spiritual guy. This class was not hard at all, one weekly mini essay (200 words), one semester project, one paper, and two exams (open book open note) If you aren't happy with your grade he will work with you! I loved his class, learned so much and gained a different perspective on things
Professor Griffin is a really easy class for a religion credit. He really cares about his students spiritual health instead of trying to make us memorize useless information. I was able to miss a few lectures and still get an A. Weekly mini essays (so easy), 1 midterm, the final, and a few other assignments.
Tyler Griffin is awesome. We already knew that though. He makes his class super easy so you can just focus on learning new things and feeling the spirit. Final isn't cumulative. Both the midterm and final are open scripture. The one paper we write is easy and not graded harshly at all. Tyler Griffin really cares for his students, and you can tell.
Great teacher who is very knowledgable and cares immensely about his students.
Great professor! very engaging lecturer, and a very accommodating and manageable courseload.
Professor Griffin is amazing!! I highly recommend taking this class from him. His tests are actually so chill and pretty much common sense but it helps to pay attention. He has incredible insight and has completely changed the way I approach the scriptures!! His lectures are engaging and spirit filled.
Amazing and kind professor. Extremely humble man.
I loved this class. I learned so many different things that I had not realized about the Book of Mormon, and the classes seemed to fly by. He would follow the spirit instead of worrying about criteria to cover.
His class was amazing and beautiful and I loved all of the information and curious things that I got to learn here! Anybody who loves learning should take this class from him! He truly cares about and loves his students. He loves Christ and His gospel profusely and he has just a wealth of knowledge about the history of scripture and the stories.
Brother Griffin is amazing! Absolutely take his class! This was my 3rd class I've taken from him, there's a reason I keep coming back! He is the most Christlike man I know, truly cares about what he does, has high love AND high expectations! I came away from every lecture saying "wow." Syllabus is super straight forward, micro essay due every week
Brother Griffin knows his stuff!! Take this class from him! There is a midterm and a final on learningsuite that both aren't hard if you take good notes in your scriptures. Micro essays and scripture study tracking are on the weekly quizzes, along with saying whether or not you worked on your SMART project. I learned so much in this class.
Brother Griffin is a great professor. His lectures are amazing and spirit-filled. The tests are pretty difficult, but if you pay attention in class and take good notes, you should be fine. Not a bad class to take. He is very smart and adds many scholarly insights into his lectures, if you are interested in that type of thing!
Brother Griffin is hands down the best religion professor I've taken from so far at BYU. He offered so much insight into the standard works and made them applicable to my life. His classes were Spirit-filled, and I was genuinely so sad to walk out of the last lecture. I would highly recommend his classes to anyone who is really willing to learn.
Great class! I learned a lot, not only interesting facts, but how to find out more using online resources. He is such a kind teachers and you can feel his testimony as he speaks. Attendance does matter and you are expected to read scriptures every day. There is also a semester long project you work on, but you pick what you do, so it isn't bad.
Honestly one of the best religion teachers at BYU. You must take a class from him once and I can promise you that you will learn lots of new things and grow your testimony. If you keep up with the assignments and do them, you will get an A
Great religion professor! The class got better as it went along & most of your grade is self reported. It was nice to examine my own spirituality & set my own goals than have someone tell me what to do. Much of your grade is on the honor system. The tests are very specific to class, so make sure you pay attention & take good notes.
Professor Griffin is the best of the best! He truly cares about each one of his students and their success in growing their testimonies. He is a a gifted storyteller and pun enthusiast whose love for the Savior shines through all of his words and actions. Take from him if you want the best Univ 101 class the way it was designed to be.
Brother Griffin is the best! He knows what he is talking about and I learned so much in his class. His lectures are entertaining and so spiritual. He is also hilarious and I love hearing his dad jokes everyday! One paper, a semester long project, and weekly attendance quizzes, but not too much work.
Professor Griffin is such a great teacher! He cares about his students and teaches about things that really matter. There are weekly assignments, essays, and tests, but they aren't too hard. I learned a lot of important things in this class.
Such an awesome teacher! Very caring and loving towards all his student. He is truly there for us. He is passionate about helping us learn and understand the scriptures.
Professor Griffin is very kind and gives amazing lectures. I enjoyed his teaching, and the course layout was excellent. My only complaint is that the grading was way too tough! I never in my life thought I'd get below an A in a religion class, but this class proved me wrong. You will be graded more harshly than you think, so beware.
This class is good and you definitely learn a lot! Griffin is a super sweet guy and his lessons are engaging but I would say his tests are pretty specific. To do well on them you have to take really good notes, especially on the things he says because chances are you won't remember everything said in class. You have to do good on tests for an A.
