Course notes (instead of a textbook) were awesome!

i loved him as a teacher. His lecture were quite funny and light. although i required some self reading after class because he was not that clear sometimes. his papers were fairly easy and were doable. he actually cares about his students and gives us the maximum opportunities to score a good help. by the way his book is super handy and helpful.

Probably the best professor I have had so far. He is young and relatable, and makes lectures fun. No textbook required for this course. He made his own package, which was very helpful. You have to practice to do well in this course, but that is like most math courses. Highly recommend taking classes with Tyler. He actually cares about the students.

Super great prof. Very accessible and lots of office hours. He redesigned the course himself and it is very easy to follow. Tyler is one of the best profs in my first year. Make sure you go to class, as he does not share the annotated notes on OWL. Strongly recommended :)

Pretty epic dude ngl. Btw textbook not mandatory. I just bought it bc i like hardcopy textbooks. You can just use the online notes.

He's an extremely nice and funny guy. The textbook for the class is cheap and he posts an online version for free. Lectures follow a fill in the blank format. There are two midterms and one final. Also, he gives group assignments.

I finished his course with a 104. He is an absolute beauty when it comes to giving free extra marks.

Literally the best professor I have this semester. Explains things super clearly, has a great personality and makes the course so much more enjoyable. His examples are actually relevant to what we are being tested on and he actually teaches the concepts. Could not be more thankful that he's my prof this semester.

This man is GOD TEIR. Honestly, he is one of the best educators I have ever had and deserves some kind of recognition or award. He advocates for students, is very good at explaining concepts, and he's really funny too! Go out of your way to take a class with Tyler, you will not regret it :)

An absolute gem! Had him for Calc 1000 tutorial this term, and loved it sm. Tutorial notes get posted after and are clear af if u don't want to get up @9:30 for class, he also gives lots of hints for the tests. Made a slack for us and would open the zoom early to chat and get to know his students. Great guy, even would send us dog pics to motivate!

I would take his class over and over even though I absolutely despise the subject calculus. He is an amazing prof with a passion to teach that cannot be matched. He goes out of his way to help students, with flexible office hours, a Slack platform where you can reach him almost any hour of the day, and quick email responses. A legend from day 1.

I had him as my tutorial prof for Calc 1000A and he is hands down one of the best people EVER. He cares about his students and opened the zoom call 30 minutes before our tutorials just for students to come on and chat and he took the time to get to know his students. He was very upfront about what to expect on tests and the exams. 100/10 recommend.

Where do I even start? This guy is one of the best profs I have ever had. He is so caring, and funny, while still preparing us well for assessments. Really tries to get to know each student individually by opening zoom rooms early, and really wants everyone to succeed. Could not have asked for a better calc prof.

Best prof in the department!! Excellent teacher, ultra-helpful lectures, always there for his students, and super nice and funny. Hints for tests are GOD TIER. He always tells students EXACTLY what to focus on, and what to not waste time studying. Really showed effort to help and connect with his students outside of lecture. Would recommend 1000%!!

- BY FAR MY FAV PROF SO FAR! This man is literally golden! - His calc tutorials were my saving grace, he explains everything so thoroughly and is easy to follow. He makes his handouts available which are way more useful than the course lecture videos and also provides additional resources for help. - He is always there when you need help.

He is GOD TIER. His notes are organized. His tutorials are amazing with helpful examples that definitely show up in exams and quizzes. His personality is awesome: kind, loving, and funny. During COVID-19 pandemic in my first year, his existence has lightened up my school year. If you see Tyler Pattenden in your list, pick his class, no doubt.

I would literally take any course of his again just for fun. He is one of the best teachers I have ever had not only because he is good at teaching, but because he genuinely cares about all of his students. Dr. Pattenden goes out of his way and spends his free time making extra lectures so that the entire course is able to understand the content.

quite literally the best prof at western hands down. words will not be able to describe how wonderful tyler is. he truly cares about all of his students, and will go the extra mile to make sure everyone succeeds! he posts mini lesson videos to help clear up any confusion (on his own time) when it's not mandatory. you'd be lucky to be in his class!

Tyler is single handedly carrying the entire average of our course. His "mini lessons" are more in depth than the actual lectures that the coordinator posts. He's funny and caring during the tutorials. I join his tutorials with a smile because he honestly makes me feel so happy. Tyler if you're reading this, thank you for everything!

I took the course online so we only had tutorials. He treats his students like friends and makes the tutorials pretty interesting with the jokes and touch of personality he adds in. Definitely made learning calc much more interesting. He also gives good tips for the exams and assignments. Really enjoyed the course!

Tyler is the kindest professor I have ever had. He always goes the extra mile and genuinely cares about his students. His mini lessons are often better than the regular lessons. He opens the zoom calls 30 minutes early to make an effort to get to know his students. If you ever have the chance to take a course with Tyler you will not regret it!!

He's one of the BEST profs I've had all year. He teaches very clearly and always cares about his students. The course at first was horrible without him but once he started making lessons on the side for us, I understood the material so much better. Tyler really helped my understanding and is a real gem. Take his class if you can!

tbh hes technically not my prof b/c there are different sections for my class with different profs, but we have access to all notes/lectures from everyone. Anyway, his notes are the only reason I have even the slightest clue whats happening in this course and I really wish I had chosen his section. If you get the choice, take his class!!

Tyler is truly a rare gem. He is a prof that cares so much about his students. Although he was only my ta for applied math 1201, I learned more from him than I have learned from the prof. He was always willing to help and very open. He stayed up late at night making practice tests and lecture videos for us so that concepts were clear.

all professors at western should look to Tyler as an example of how to teach online school. the most caring and amazing professor I have ever had. he is the only reason I'm staying in the course and why I'm not failing. absolute gem, cutest dog, and supports and cares for his students so much. The best prof I've had, He goes above and beyond to make sure students understand the concepts and are prepared for the course. He even took the time to make extra lecture videos to support students learning even though he doesnt have to. I appreciate Tyler's help because this course has changed drastically & his lecture are very coherent & concise

Literally the only class i am excited to go too.

Tyler is the best math prof hands down. He advocates for the students when things are too difficult and unfair, and teaches the concepts in a very clear and concise way. He makes sure the students are prepared for tests and quizzes, and teaches in a way that makes me have an appreciation for math & its applications to the real/science world.

Tyler is absolutely the most caring prof I have ever seen. In the two courses that I took with (with him as the Prof assistant), Calc1000 and AM1201, he was usually a lot more clear and helpful than the prof. He consistently made and gave us. extra practice, had his office hours open, and responded to emails very fast to ensure we all succeed :)

Tyler can teach math better than any math teacher I've had in the past. He's very clear about what we will be tested on, and he does an amazing job of helping students understand the course content. 10/10 would choose his tutorial section again if given the chance in the future!

Tyler is an amazing human & teacher. I am not even in his tutorial section and I have still managed to learn more from him than the actual prof of this class. I was so lost at the start of the year, and Tyler's mini lessons saved me. It is clear he goes above and beyond what is expected of him as a TA. He truly cares about his students' wellbeing.

At the end of the day, Tyler cares immensely about his students. It's not easy to find an instructor who does in the age of online learning, and yet Tyler consistently goes above and beyond. He creates videos explaining each week's content in detail, is available constantly for extra help , and even gives pep talks prior to exams.

Amidst all the confusion and sadness brought along by this course, Tyler is the light at the end of the tunnel. I am convinced that no other prof can outshine Tyler in terms of teaching and providing extra learning material. In addition, he is an absolute legend and really made his tutorials the saving grace for this course. Thanks, Tyler!

Love this guy not only is he willing to help students but he's passionate about it. The man really gets paid less than a TA but works harder than anyone in the whole department. Don't understand the lectures by Wild? No problem. Tyler basically made lessons on his free time about the whole course while explaining it in an understandable language.

Despite the course being drastically overhauled and much more complicated, Tyler's mini-lessons have been a huge help to most students including me. I think everyone in AM1201 watches Tyler's mini-lessons rather than Wild's lectures. Also, he gives a ton of feedback and responds to emails in less than a day. Very caring too.

Really great at explaining topics, he is extremely clear. It's evident that he cares about his students as he will provide many opportunities to improve and learn (ex. creating extra test review lecture series, extra homework for practice). Would take any course with him as an instructor.

If I could have Tyler for every course, I would. He says you shouldn't rely on his lectures and videos but honestly you will get 80+ if you simply just watch his lectures, he can make any concept super easy to understand.

Had him once and he wasn't the main professor, just another class' instructor. However after the first week, he ended up making all the lessons for all the classes by himself and carrying the weight of the course on his back. The main prof had months and couldn't do what he did in weeks. Honestly the best prof ever. And his practice tests help.

He's the only reason I passed this class. He was a TA this year during covid and literally taught the class because of the extremely incompetent professor. Hands down the most down to earth and caring teacher I've seen at Western so far.

I'm not a math person and have always struggled with math, but now I kinda love it now because of him. He is very caring and understanding and will always help you to pass with an A. WILL for sure take another class with him

BEST PROF EVER. Actually makes math easy and interesting to learn. The Mastery Grading system is confusing at first, but it's incredible. Tyler is a super nice guy, hilarious, and very approachable. Will take the time to help you out. He actually cares about his students and wants them to succeed. IF YOU STRUGGLE WITH MATH, TAKE TYLER'S CLASS.

BEST PROF. If you want to get a good mark in math then take his class. You wont find a better prof. He will take time outside of class time to help you and he is very understanding.

Best teacher I've had so far. Posted hours of videos going over the abstract math material that the actual prof's 15min lectures didn't really cover. Also gave many practice problems, solutions, and practice tests. Very fair tests. It was the only interesting math class I had taken and I felt that I could actually understand! :)

Tyler isn't even part of the course staff anymore yet we learn more from him than anyone else through an archive of his video lectures and recorded tutorials. This man carries the course without even being here and we would all probably be failing without him.

Tyler is a king and a half. I wish he was a TA this year, since I only watched his pre-recorded youtube mini lessons but he is very good at making Applied math math sense. SO much better than Geoff Wilde. Still prob's failed the course but if it weren't for Tylers videos I would have done so much worse. Give this man a raise

Tyler uses a different grading system called "mastery grading". It allows you to be reassessed as many times as you need making it super easy to get A. Aside from that, he's just downright a great guy inside and outside the classroom. If you're feeling depressed, just go to this class (no pressure Tyler). Thanks for a great semester!

i came back to leave another review because i heard tyler was leaving :( applied math is like a cursed class with the professor changing every term and ranging from not particularly good to downright terrible, but he would always provide hours of extra lectures/videos, practice, and notes. do not take 1201 if you don't at least have access to those

Best professor you could possibly get for math! He will let you do questions and concepts until you get it right and adjust your grade accordingly. He is actually awesome.

He's very caring and wants everyone to do the best they can. He's easily accessible if you need help either in person or online. Definitely shows that he cares about the success of his students.

Professor Tyler is fantabulous, I highly recommend him if you struggle with math, because he explains concepts well and makes math seem easy. He cares about his students. If you have a bad quiz, don't worry, he offers many opportunities to turn it around. Must students pass his class with good grades.

Tyler is really nice, even has coffee and doughnuts during the final exam. He is a very responsible and funny professor.

Taking Math 1228 in first year with Dr. Pattenden has ruined all other professors for me because he was just too amazing. Now I have 3 more years to compare all faculty to him and none come close. His lectures get to the point, they are informative, funny, and they helped me to understand and excel at math for the first time in my life.

I love how he lectures. He actually does examples in class rather than just explaining off bland slides or tells us to read a useless textbook. He also colour codes everything and is super organized which is really appreciated.

An actual legend, don't take a math course with anyone else but Tyler.

I never thought I'd get an A in any math course. Tyler (and mastery grading) got me there! Fair, kind, gives lots of opportunities to improve your mark. Provides incredibly detailed notes and makes difficult concepts easy to understand even if you hate math. Very accessible outside of class, clearly cares about your success. He is truly that good!

I was initially stressed about taking stats 2 for psych, but am already so reassured by Dr. T's first lecture. He reframes the course material as an opportunity to learn rather than another challenge to overcome. He stands out from other profs in that he teaches from a student's POV and makes success seem attainable with effort and engagement!

The way he went on about with his teaching strategy was top tier, it really inspired me to dive deeper into the topics taught. I am glad to have had the opportunity to have him as my professor for physics 1101A.

Very interesting when it comes to the teaching style, helped me keep focus in class and want to attend. Enjoys Pokemon and Bay-blades, offers extra help and guide us in what we should study. Only issue is it is hard to contact via email.

Cannot express how much I loved PSYCH2812 this term, which I thought I would never say. Tyler completely changes your perspective on statistics. Not only am I leaving his class with genuine laughs, but I'm leaving having actually learned something! He makes complexity manageable, you can tell he loves the content, you''ll even start loving it too!

His class was a geniune delight and he was the best statistics teacher I have ever had the pleasure of learning from. Western needs more professors like him!

I wish he could teach every class. He genuinely cares for his students which I find can sometimes be hard to find.

AMAZING professor, exactly what is needed in psych stats courses. He is very knowledgeable and a phenomenal teacher, you can tell he is passionate about students learning things they can use in the future. One of the best profs I have had at Western, I hope he teaches more psych stats courses in the future!!

Super chill and explains things very clearly. Almost too elaborative sometimes to the point where it is hard to focus though. Slides are very easy to understand and makes the content incredibly simple. Fun to talk to aswell.
