Excellent prof, he apparently has not taught before he taught my class, and he did a darn good job. He effectively and efficiently got the topics across and it was easy to understand his lectures. Very fun and down to earth; it's not like you're talking to a robot. He shows his human side a lot, so he is at the same level as us. Excellent prof!
A new teacher that has lots to learn, but he's got potential. He's young and charismatic. His teaching style comes straight from the textbook and when he paraphrases sometimes it easy very clear. His tests are fair, not easy but not difficult. Because he's inexperienced you can influence him and make your workload easier.
Great professor. Always very helpful and open. Challenges you and makes you a better student.
He's nice and all but I don't feel like I'm learning anything from him. I'm actually forgetting material a previous prof had taught me. I've asked other classmates and he needs to do more examples. We're LEARNING and therefore don't understand all the different scenarios yet!!
great teacher!
Fun prof. As another comment said, he's young and charismatic, with an uncommon level of enthusiasm. I've been in langara for 3 years, and he's among my highest tier teachers I've had. Try a class with him if you're interested in an engaging and interactive learning experience.
He is cool and all but..there is a big but here: He does not teach! The entire load of course is on your shoulder. Prior to this class I was a physics lover . Don't feel that way anymore. What he does is that he gives an introduction to a very complicated subject then he throws worksheets at you. Then you would get together with a group of student
He does not teach!! The entire load of course is on your shoulder! Didn't learn anything from him ;(
He's a very good professor. Anyone who claims he's not helpful doesn't know what they're talking about, he's always willing to help. Class was fun and informative.
He's nice~~
he is not teaching. i think he is lazy. i would not recommend him to anyone!
He is average.
Very helpful, always willing to answer your questions. He's really funny and kinda weird, which made the class interesting.
Tyron goes out of his way to help you (in class, email, office hours, etc). He gives daily worksheets that get you thinking about what you just learned. If you show up and don't get distracted, you'll get full marks on them. There's also 1 required presentation. His tests get you thinking but they're fair. He's great
Arrogant condescending prof. Sometimes funny, sometimes awkward. Actually rates u on presentations for "moving around" and one of his criteria for essays is "awesomeness" which he does not legit explain. Regret taking his class... Oh ya. bad marker.
Better as a physics prof than Astro. Yes, he's enthusiastic, but doesn't explain them in depth..you have to just learn it on your own to do well. Slides are too vague to understand unless you're there every class as he explains aloud. Even then, brief. Teaches very textbook style &expects too much memorizing rather than understanding. Bye GPA..
Tyron's the kind of prof that doesn't care how you do in his class. Never repeats deadlines or writes them, just says them. Reluctant to go over marking. No quizzes given(which would be helpful). No way to measure your learning till the mt and final. Average was so low. Non-chalant about student needs. 1 kid studied like crazy & just got 80%. Run.
DEFINITELY OVERRATED, he is NOT helpful, instead he gives you a blank face if you ask him question. Regret taking this course with him, he thinks he is cool but he is NOT. there is no discipline in his class and he is not professional.
Questions regarding the labs are generally addressed with blank stares or condescending remarks which are clearly intended to make the student feel embarrassed for asking. Not particularly insightful or helpful. He also didn't seem to be all that enthralled by what he does for a living, and it makes the class quite unpleasant.
He cares for the students who show interest in class. He is there to help any time you need and will answer homework questions via email promptly even on weekends (take advantage of this). His exams are difficult, but he will give you points for the effort. His worksheets are helpful. He is a nice person who cares about his job.
if you take physics as your core course, you better be careful. His lecture isn't really useful. In 2 hours lecture, he spends 1 hour explaining formula (not concept) which means you need to understand concept by yourself. Wanna get A? do all textbook questions, which is almost impossible if you take 4 courses or more
he is a real G
He is humorous. However, he explained some concepts in few sentences. Not all the concepts in homework questions are taught and he still let us finish them(ex: in coherent). If you want ace this course, you probably need to do all the questions in the textbook. most of the questions in the quiz are textbook questions. Final is relatively hard.
His lectures are way easier than the everything at the end of every lecture he would give us a worksheet due at the end of class although we just learned the material. Whenever you would ask him for help he would stare at you. His examsfinals are way harder than the HW, quize. You need to do all the textbook questions to pass is finalsmidterms.
doesn't teach, seems to not want to be there. reads through worthless powerpoints and then spends the rest of class eating sandwiches and on with his phone. exams are not terribly difficult, but he does put stuff that is not assigned in homework or adequately explained in class on them. attendance mandatory because of daily work sheets. whatever.
If you're interested in the subject, he's totally there for you. I suck at memorizing stuff but it was a good balance of facts and math. The courses overall were super easy but I love astro. If you ask questions, he never judges - unless you're being a d*ick, then he'll give you this awful judgy stare. Moral of the story, he's a boss.
Ok. So here is the thing, you need to read ahead and try to solve the homework questions before coming to class. Ex ch 20 is the next lecture, then you must read and do the homework problems for ch.20 to understand the inclass assignments. So , u r on your own to learn. He's just there to give you marks for how well u learn on your own.
Tyron is by far the worst instructor I ever had. I have not learned a single thing from him. His lectures are boring as he will talk for one hour just showing you formulas without any application. He entertains himself on his phone for the rest of the lecture and you have to beg for his help. He is a demeaning person. Worksheets have no correletion
Tyron is a nice guy, but a terrible teacher. His classes are like this: he talks really fast and presents a powerpoint, then gives you a worksheet with some questions and tells you to work on it, and all the questions make no sense, and he doesnt help unless you ask him to. Tests are super hard, and not based on what you do in class. UNREASONABLE!
Good teacher; better friend.
More a university prof than a college prof, a large portion of doing well in his classes comes from being able to self study - it's a must. Don't go to him with a question unless you've tried to figure it out and know what you don't understand, it's physics not rocket science but you have to put the work in yourself, he won't do it for you.
he is terrible at explaining things in lecture, uses terrible free textbook online. Both him and textbook uses extremely simply example to explain materials, but questions for mark are much harder. Midterm is unlikely anything he has ever talked about, very unreasonable hard. Garb a tutor or spend ungodly amount of hour self-raising.
BEST PROF EVER. And I honestly do not like physics. He expects you do be an adult and do your work. He penalizes you for not following direction but rewards you if you do. Good balance of lecture and worksheets, and he is easy to approach. HE IS A SERIOUS BRO. Literally.
Get ready to ask the most questions youll ever ask in a class.I'm not the one who leaves reviews on teachers and places, but this time i have to. Tyron does not care if you pass or fail, period. He gives fairly easy homework ,take in mind that homework is only worth 3.5% and test questions on things you never learned. He is extremely cocky as well
Worst teacher i ever had in my life, he tries to be relateable but dang hes a bad teacher. Gives test questions on things we've never learned.
Copies and pastes textbook as notes in class. Tests and quizzes are extremely difficult compare to HW and in class worksheets . During tests/quizzes, I was always unsure what it was asking me to find. final Is next week, he doesn't give anything but a review of the course and and an idea of where questions are coming from but its no help to study.
He is very good at giving lectures but his practice question are hard and you really need to study 24/7 to get a good grade in this class. It starts of easy then everything just goes downhill after. He gives amazing lectures but you have to go in to get help.
The material is hard, not him, but he needs to adjust how he helps. He will help with specific practice problems, but won't help with concepts. He intentionally doesn't give a lot of practice problems, so if you're struggling you end up memorising the problem, not the concept, and then perform poorly on tests. Low class avg. Many people dropped.
He is good at what he teaches and i guess the only reason for bad reviews is because this subject is not cramming the book and coming to midterm or exams(which alot and myself were doing ). YOU NEED TO STUDY . And if you do that regularly you can pass easily .Although i expect a C- grade but, its just me i've realized where the problem lies.
Tyrone expects you to put in a lot of effort. If you don't take his class/subject seriously, then he won't spoon feed you anything! Follow what he asks you to do, period. If you like physics and would PROACTIVELY pursue learning the subject (again if you don't care, he won't care), then Tyrone is your guy. (Also, don't skip his class!)
He is an extremely hard marker and I felt very lost in his course. We had several questions to do for homework and he expected us to understand how to do these questions through textbook examples which weren't helpful at all. AVOID taking a course taught by him at all cost.
Tyron is a good teacher and explains thing clearly in class and he is hilarious. Though his exams are tough, but when you participate in all classes, you will get things solved easily.
Tyron is approachable, funny and answers individual questions well. His lectures lacks in how to approach and apply concepts. Midterms are the harder version of homeworks and worksheets. The finals is brutally hard and nothing like you've seen before as it applies concepts instead of formulas. Doable if you're okay with putting in lots of time.
Tyron is a 5/5 human. If you are serious about learning you will pass his courses. Not often do you find a professor with such a great personality.
be prepared to put in a lot of hours of self learning only to get destroyed by his hard midterms/finals; Tyron is a pretty cool guy but not good at teaching concepts and can be confusing sometimes when asking him for help as he jumps right into a problem without explaining the basics when needed; be ready for your gpa to take a hard hit
If you don't care about the class, then Tyron won't care... if you want to do well and put in the effort then Tyron is a great prof. Always got a few laughs every class and looked forward to lectures. Also best prof to have beers with.
good though, but tests are really tough, needs lots of hard work. tyron is really a very caring professor. find many ways to help his students.. he is best. must take his class.
I really thought I hated physics until I took his course. Tyron was always willing to help students who wanted to succeed. He helped me through rough patches (I have to take 1118 next semester), and to me that's all that matters. He's pretty funny too; quirky in a sense? Anyways, just make sure you do the homework in the textbook and you'll be fine
Tyron is a great professor and makes the subject matter enjoyable with his quirkiness. He's very approachable and enjoys answering any questions you may have, no matter how philosophical. Pay attention, do the homework, know how to algebra, and you'll do flawlessly. I recommend him to anybody taking intro physics. What is spacetime tho? @Mr.T
I mean, if you want to take him go ahead! but you would learn nothing. Very lazy prof
You never know what to expect on quizzes/tests. Cant be bothered explaining scientifically physic concepts and just gives basic lazy examples. You dont learn anything since he prefers joking in class rather than being serious about the material. Dont take his class if you want to learn something.
Worst teacher!! Grading criteria is not clear and every test is a surprise
Tyron really makes you work for your grade, but he cares about you and your learning and makes sure you enjoy the class. Would for sure take again!
He is so bad, lots of homework, stress all day, not at all caring, hilarious but still I do not like him at all. If you wanna boost your grades then just dont pick him as your instructor.
Funny/good guy but a very hard marker, he makes you work for the mark you want and the tests are always very difficult. Makes you really think about all the questions. Materials are easy to understand but tests are basically nothing like the hw he makes you do, quizzes are based on hw so make sure to do them. There are also online quizzes.
Tyron Tsui is a great professor and great guy, he connects with his students making his lectures a very comfortable learning environment. However he can be a tough marker. The typical class would be around an hours lecture with another hour of doing a worksheet and then going over that worksheet and answering any questions.
Tyron was one of the best instructors I've had at Langara. Really funny lectures, always quick to reply (text or email). The class itself is mostly solving worksheets, but it's helpful since you get to ask him questions while you're doing them. There are easy weekly quizzes (based on hw) that keep you on track for the harder 3 term tests.
Tyron is very good instructor. His quizzes and worksheets are easy ones. But term tests were very difficult for me to do, however my class concepts are clear. But , I didnt achieve good grades.
Tyron is very enthusiastic and VERY willing to help. If you ever dont understand anything he gives out his phone number to help out. If you use his help and do all the homework he gives, you will do well on the tests. Tests are hard and a good percentage of people failed. He marks very fairly and give opportunity to make up marks, great prof!
Tyron is great, attending class was enjoyable because he makes it so. Very accessible outside of class. Do the work and you won't have a problem doing well.
Professor Tsui comes off as funny and light hearted but his midterms are absolutely ridiculous. The level of difficulty between the chapter questions were given to study and the questions he gives on his exams is huge. Class average was 49% halfway through the term. I dropped the course so it wouldnt hurt my gpa. Dont recommend for intro Phys.
Toughest grader I've ever had.
The most toughest grader I've ever seen in langara college.
I loved having Tyron as a prof! Hard tests but if you put in the work and do all (and I do mean ALL) the practice problems you should do well. He is very available outside of class times and even helped me with a different class' physics problem. He expects you to know or study some algebra so beware of that! Great guy overall :)
Tyron is very hard towards grading but he is also very caring for his students, he cares alot about his students. If you failed in first midterm, don't loose hope go and talk with him.
Tyron is caring and extremely helpful. He will help you with any problems you have without any judgement. If you do the practice and the homework, you will be successful. Questions on the quizzes and exams were mostly straight from the homework. Tyron was one of the best profs I've had at Langara!
He's not clear with the marking criteria, and he marks a lot of assignments and labs out of three meaning that if you mess up one small area, that's 1/3 marks gone. His instructions are hard to follow during some labs, and his feedback leaves a lot to be desired.
I got a bad vibe from him from the start. He mentioned he got a complaint filed against him last term, and I can see why. He is straight up rude. He behaves like that gym teacher you had in high school who was only nice to the popular kids. Try your best not to take his attitude to heart, just keep your head down and youll survive.
He cares about his students but get ready to read lots and do assignments and projects. Overall good teacher, explains material well and engages with the class when he can.
Kind of professor who uploads wrong answers on chegg. Horrible at feedbacks and makes tests unnecessarily hard. Had half the class drop this course. Avoid!
Does not understand how teaching online works. Made the course material harder than the required amount and did not give proper feedback on tests. Grading criteria are non-existent in his worldview. Not an understanding prof, will not touch even with a pole.
Tyron's teaching style didn't work well online. Most of the class dropped out or nearly failed - the class average was super low. Perhaps his class is better in person. Overall he is a nice guy, but I wouldn't recommend his upgrading class. Kinda felt like he forgot how hard physics is to learn when starting it for the first time.
Do not ever take this course he cut mark from every where he must be i think drawing teacher lot of worksheet quiz and difficult to pass the exam
If you can't work hard then don't take class Simple If you think you can get an A let alone C without doing nothing is joke. He is fair and genuinely want you to do better. To all those who said * things, look how much polite u r. Whts use of saying nice things if you want person to die from within. He isn't rude just he doesn'tve time to kill (lt)
He seems to be a nice and cooperative at first but very bad at helping students. More than half of the class dropped this course. And he is the one who had suggested them to withdraw this particular course, instead of assisting them to boost their grades. So I suggest not to go for this professor.
Tyron is one of the most engaging professors Ive had at lang. He loves making jokes with his class and has a great sense of humour. His exams can be tricky at times, but for this course he gave a sheet of topics of which we should know for exams. He tries his best to make sure his students understand his topics, is very patient to explain topics
AVOID HIM!! Discouraging professor.
Be able to answer every question on his topic sheet in fine detail and be able to do all worksheet questions. Tons of things with tons of due dates, don't fall behind. Not an exaggeration. Fun and interesting though, would subject myself to it again.
He is the worst instructor in physics department. Don't support students at all, will always discourage you. Out of 30 students in the starting, 22 students dropped his class. Avoid him at all.
Very nice prof, and very engaging! He helps and explains things well, but there is a LOT of homework. Good thing: There is a lot to be graded on, and an easy marker [aside from exams] Exams are tough, but he gives a key of everything you need to know so you aren't left guessing when studying. Good prof, but can be a difficult class, so BE PREPARED!
You can't expect a good grade for not showing up to class or not doing the work. He'll help if you ask. Attentive. Some online parts of the course need to be updated every so often.
Pretty nice prof. Easy-going and cool. Really fast paced when teaching though. Tests are pretty hard and material like worksheets will not be enough to suffice for them + the exam. Most of the topics you should really know more about then taught. Fun course if you enjoy learning about outer space but wouldn't recommend out of the sciences.
all you gotta do is show up and try (like any other course) deadlines are very strict. he's very accessible and easy to talk to, overall great prof
Lots of concepts are covered in the lectures. All you need to do is watch the lectures, show up to the labs and do the homework. The professor is helpful and would answer your problems.
Tyron is the best! He is very passionate about astronomy and interacts with the class a lot. Astronomy was made very enjoyable by Tyron probably because of Tyron and his teaching.
The worst instructor I have ever had in my life. He is not caring at all, makes fun of students even during presentations. He is funny if you are into bullies. If you are going through any mental health issues, avoid him at all costs, otherwise your prescription might go up :')
his lectures are fun but quizzes and midterms are hard. He does not tell you how approach tough question in preparation for the midterms. Not worth it. this class gave me depression
He is nice guy however, he does not much explain the formulas or the theories in astronomy that makes me harder to learn his lecture. BE READY FOR EXAMS, FOR QUIZZES AND WORKSHEETS ARE TOUGHER You need to spend A LOT TIME to read the book and communicate another teachers at UNIVERSITY in discord chat they are great helpful they will save your GRADE
No lecture at all. Get ready to self-study most of your time
Tyron's one of the most amazing profs I've ever had. He's very knowledgeable and always willing to help in and outside of class. A funny guy too; I actually find myself looking forward to his classes. As someone without any background knowledge on astronomy, I think Tyron made the class a lot easier to get through. Exams are tough, though.
Difficult course, he explained the general concepts well and is very entertaining. Worksheet questions gone over in class were very helpful. He really knows his stuff and is very willing to help students, even outside class. Do the worksheet problems and do the (many) textbook questions and you'll be fine.
He organized the course so that students actively try to study concepts and solve the problems, that is, lots of self-reading and solving. Try to do as much suggested problems from textbook as possible and no answer-chasing :) and come to office hours (this helped me a lot)
Tyron is an amazing professor! He clearly explains what is expected and what to know for the exams. He also grades on a lot of other things besides tests so the class is not test heavy. It's easy to do very well in this class as long as you participate and do all the work. I got around a 70 on both midterms but still ended up with an A+.
Tyron is super nice! Very interesting lectures, never fell asleep in class! He grades on many things so you don't need to do well on the exams to get a good mark (I had a 70 average on midterms). Lots of easy marks as long as you participate!
