Best prof I've had. His lectures are interesting, and he actually gives a crap.
HILARIOUS! Lectures are interesting. He even got an applause after a lecture.
possibly the best psych course i've ever taken...awesome prof...lectures are fun and he cares about the students.

Wonderful prof. A genuine person, not one of those stuck up, dry aliens one usually encounters as professors. Approachable, kind and funny!
The best of the BEST!! PSY230 was wonderful, as was PSY327 and I expect the same with PSY320--Attitudes. Holla!
Very cool and down-to-earth prof with a wicked sense of humour! Papers were straight-forward, however, multiple choice tests were deceptively difficult! Pay attention, have fun, and it will be a good experience :).
Great guy - very nice and funny though a little disorganized!!! In what other class would you watch Seinfeld episodes!!!
great professor!!! One of the most relaxed classes i've taken. Tests aren't too hard. still have to study though. assignments are easy. no final exam!!! only thing that was hard was the essay but even that was done in one weekend.
Very laid-back professor. Always all smiles and ready to throw down a hilarious comment (had candy for people who participate in class!). Easy tests: study list shows you what will be on them. He's very dedicated: writes 9 page notes for each lecture!
Decent Prof. One of the best at UTM. Pretty fair when it comes to assignments. But tests are ALL multiple choice, making it difficult for people that excel in short answers and essays, and suck at multiple choice.
The professor's tests are all Multiple choice (which makes it difficult to do well in the course)...He likes to give you weekly assignments (where you have to summarize a journal article (generally the journal articles are 20+ pages = hard to understand).
Good prof, difficult to get higher than an A- in his courses due to the multiple choice exams...the essay and weekly assignments are easy tho.
Hated the multiple choice, dragged my mark down greatly. The essay was marked very hard. I did much better in PSY230 than this class.
Pretty good prof
Very interesting professor..so cool, hip and enthusiastic. He's also young and cute too...and he's smart! *wink*
awful awful class. i havent learned anything
He's funny, approachable, and I consider him a top expert in his field. First few weeks are boring (half the class left the course). But the material DOES get very interesting later. Workload is ENORMOUS but easy! Tests are pure MC and easy. He's also willing to modify course for student's benefit.
best prof I've ever had
best prof I ever had.
Material is pointless, simply lectures that everything is partly due to genetics/environment (which is common sense). However, his poor English makes tests a pain in the ass, though his assignments help inflate marks from the low class average of a C-. If you study, you should be able to get at least a B
very nice prof...makes the class fun by making funny jokes...although sometimes the material itself can be boring...speaks english well!!..except tests are difficult..and there is A LOT OF WORK AND MATERIAL...it would be difficult to get a B...need to worker harder than most classes
Prof Schimmack is kind of like a double edged sword. On one hand his tests are very difficult and ambiguous (not really due to his english skills) but more so because of the material. On the other hand, he is a really nice and understanding guy who gets what students go through. Work hard and you'll get a decent grade.
His MCQ questions are quite hard. However, he is EXTREMELY HELPFUL compared to other psych profs(he told us exactly what he wanted in the term paper). The workload for this class is below average, the material isn't hard at all, and there is NO FINAL! He is quite funny and he does speak English very well. I love his colourful sweaters.
Prof. Schimmack is THE prime example of what it means to be an OUTSTANDING professor. Besides clearly being a nice, genuine, funny person, he knows exactly what to do to get students involved, is always more than willing to help, goes OUT OF HIS WAY to make the class fun, and puts HIS STUDENTS FIRST. His wife is a veryyyy LUCKY WOMAN. Great job!
He is hot, I have to say. Even hotter than professor Monks.
AMAZING prof. Hes really cute and makes silly jokes... they may be bad, but theyre so bad that they're funny and at least you don't fall asleep in your chair. He makes the lectures interesting.
He's great cause he posts his full lecture notes. only problem is that his tests are brutal!
Great Prof, makes class fun to attend to hear his corny jokes. Provides good instruction for the term paper - hard MC questions thou!
This is a great course. The multiple choice questions are not that bad if you study his lectures very well. He gives three free multiple choice questions. And he's really understanding... he talks to the students and tries to help the best he can. His accent is sooo hot... it's german... so sexy! I agree, his wife is LUCKY!!
This teacher is very hot. His classes are very good as well. Easy to talk to, and very understanding.
He is a understanding, wonderful prof. He isn't arrogant, and talks to students like they're important. He is also attractive and loves his son and wife. He's a family guy and a wonderful Prof. He's great at what he does. But focus on lectures and you'll do great
Great prof - is very concerned with how his teaching abilities may affect students' interest to study the course material. He tries to accommodate for students to the best of his ability. Grading is more than fair. Some students may be less motivated to study if they are not interested in the personality stream of psychology.
very good class...the iclicker stuff keeps the class interesting...thankgod he isnt monotone otherwise the lectrues would be VERY boring...the textbook is easy to follow..tests all multiple choice...plus he givves 3 freebies!..which is always good...just make sure you know the lecture slides and his own notes PERFECTLY!! the asgns were very easy!!
you can tell that he wants to help everyone learn. His accent makes it better/ when he sees the class is getting bored he doesnt just keep talking, he'll liven you up with a joke or two.
He seems nice up front but in person, he's not as pleasant as I expected. He could've been more helpful. The course content itself is fairly straightforward though.
I am taking his course right now... he is wearing a red sweater and has that stupid smug on his face all the time. God it really pisses me off. However he is a great professor, the course seems like its going to be a GPA raiser and he is extremely helpful and wants everyone to do good in his course and enjoy it overall. Great prof so far!
I love this Prof! He's so nice and sweet! He is always helpful and he's so cute. I love his accent. It's a very small German accent, but it's there and it makes him sound so hot. He loves his wife so much... that lucky woman. Why only one son, make more babies! You're hot and smart... pass those genes on!
One of the easiest classes I have ever taken in University. Going to class isn't even mandatory, as everything he talks about is summarized in his lecture notes. The only reason to go to class is for the participation (8% of your mark). Definitely an interesting course.
A really good professor. Clearly wants his students to do well. The tests are a little hard but if u do the work, its possible to do really well on them. The material is a bit tough but he clearly tries to make it very interesting!
he's nince, and seems like a very approachable guy..but damnit lectures are soo boring to me >o<..can't seem to stay awake in that class - course load= it's more than the usual psy courese, but farily easy and helps to raise your will-be low mark on the MC midterms. BEST thing of all is that there is no EXAM!! HI5
He's a great prof! Easy to understand and very approachable. Not to mention he's eyecandy! I look forward in participating in his class. Keep up the great work!
Overall, he's a great teacher. He's easy to work with, he finds ways to make the class fun, and he uses iClickers (trust me, it's more fun than it sounds ;P) Best advice I can give is to READ THE LECTURE NOTES. They will save your life when the tests come along!
He's pretty cool. But the tests are a bit hard. But overall it's an okay course..no exams :)
He's pretty good. Class isn't too bad. Never liked his assignments but his tests were easy.
Incredibly boring class. I NEVER fall asleep in class, but in his I probably could have. Don't take this class if you can't study boring material. He could have presented it in such a stimulating way, and related it to our lives as students.
Great prof, and explains everything well!
Tests are tricky but also very fair. He shows an EXTREME amount of enthusiasm in the field of well-being psych, which is a great characteristic in a prof. Unlike some profs, really wants his students to do well. Weekly assignments can be tedious but are helpful for studying for the test. Overall a wonderful prof.
He's a really great prof overall. Extremely nice and helpful. The material is a bit boring since there's a lot of stats, but not his fault. Assignments are easy. Tests are hard and tricky due to the material. i-Clicker participation is easy marks. He's spontaneous at times and very funny. I recommend his class.
Pretty boring, but clicker participation was a pretty good chunk of the grading anyways. All his tests are MC which he doesn't give back! A little tricky, but nothing too hard with going over both his slides and book. Ended up with a horrible TA, but it was an easy class regardless :)
Simply put: he doesn't give a darn about the course, the students, anything. He never posts lecture notes on time, he never finishes lectures, he isn't strict with the TAs so they don't get anything done, he never posted instructions on how to do the essay, and he is extremely disorganized. This class is simply a nightmare. I regret taking it.
The problem with Schimmack is not the lack of organization, it's his brutal MC tests. As for the idea that he does not care about the course, c'mon! The dude has tenure and still makes a concerted effort to engage the class through the use of an iClicker. He even asks for feedback after tests on ways to improve the course. He's a great guy.
This class was boring as all hell, but Schimmack is a good professor, and tries to make the incredibly dry material interesting. The MC tests can be tricky and ambiguous but if you read his lecture notes you should be fine. This course was an easy A; there's even 8% given for using the iClicker.
Still waiting on the essay grade, the second midterm grade, the clicker participation grade, etc... come on. It's been over a month. There is no excuse for this man's laziness.
So the first week of the 2nd sem. is half done and I have yet to receive the mark for my paper. I initially loved the class because of the prof's excitement, but then I realized it was a facade. He is a research prof. His main focus was collecting info from us. I learned absolutely NOTHING new, and my TA was horribly rude!
He is extremely unorganized and barely ever posted the notes for class on time. It took forever to get grades from tests and assignments. He lectures very slowly and lectures barely ever finished on time.
I'm glad that i took his class. Many opportunities to bring up your mark, and there is no final exam.8% is participation with icklickers, and he gives an extra 1% to your final if you attend his last class. All his tests are m/c and they're fair if you read the textbook. Assignments are easy. it is true that he is late with handing things back though
I don't understand how people are rating him as good quality. The content of his course is mostly research (I.e. correlational research) which is extremely boring and useless knowledge to have. Could not pay attention in his class. Lecture were disorganized, and TA's were equally as useless. No clue how I ended up with a B-, I winged all tests.
worst professor ever, disorganized , not fair all over the place, I would never recommend this prof
30% In class assessment and 10% i clicker, since we have minimal amount of classes, a little incorrect answer could destroy your mark! I THINK THIS IS UNFAIR! Alot of the multiple choice is misguiding, I think he needs to become more organized and spread out the marking scheme! Not solely depend on 30% to be a press of a button for 8 questions!
Schimmack is a good professor. Yes, the course is somewhat boring but he does his best to make it as interesting (iclicker, lame jokes...). The course is really easy if you go to class and read his lecture notes, and has many opportunities to boost your mark.
The course is okay. Some people thought it was super boring, I found it to be pretty cool (good to know what makes you happy). Schimmack is disorganized (never post slides on time, never posts notes...). But he's a fair guy. Easy course if you read the notes and go to class. Cool course, cool prof
NOT HELPFUL, VERY RUDE. CLASS IS EASY BUT NOT WORTH THE STRESS AND ANNOYING PAIN IN THE BUM. He is very disorganized. :( I had more faith in him...but it's gone, gone with the wind.
no essay this year so really high average. really arbitrary m.c final had a HUGE bellcurve. dont need to go to class. easy 100 on iclicker to boost your mark but tests bring it down.
No essay for my year, wasn't much to the class material so lectures were boring - but he used some iClicker questions in the tests! Sweet professor and the readings were pretty helpful.
Prof. Schimmack was one of the best professors I have had at UTM. Although his lectures and the readings were not always posted on time, he was VERY VERY helpful when I went to his office hours. There was no textbook or extra readings which was a complete bonus for a 3rd year course!!
Prof. Schimmack was an excellent professor. He was enthusiastic and very helpful. He also related material from the class to his personal life, which I really liked because it made the material far more interesting. I thoroughly enjoyed his lecture and class. You should definitely attend lectures as there is a participation component. Amazing prof!
In person he is a very rude professor who takes his subject way too seriously. He is very bad at explaining anything that is related to the subject but not in his lecture notes. He tries to take a scientific approach on a clearly philosophical subject. Don't expect to learn anything practical. At least the class was an easy!
Excellent prof. Attend lectures and study for the STUDY LIST you will be fine.
One of my worst profs in 4 years. He is not in the least bit helpful and is actually rude when you try to approach him. Fortunately the class is a joke and you are bound to do well. Bottom line: bird course but expect to hate the class
He's alright. The course itself is pretty good and can be a GPA booster. He's not the best professor but you can still do very well in this course. Just need to attend all lectures and do the readings. Some questions on the midterms were quite vague and unclear. Still a pretty decent course to take.
Lectures very dry is the only con. Very heavy on participation and so never ever skip class. There are in class iclickers quizzes usually about 5 question based on previous lecture, very easy and basically discuss with ppl around you. First test is make you or break you worth 40%. No final exam. Two term tests and participation is breakdown.
Great professor. Lectures can be a little dry but there's still a lot you can learn from him. He writes the textbook himself so lecture notes and textbook notes are very similar, making it much easier to follow along! He's a very fair grader.
The most straightforward class I've ever taken. Since he wrote his (free) textbook, it's the same as his lectures. Although tests are essentially 1 MC question 1%, they are straight from lecture notes and are non-cumulative. Very approachable and caring. Though material can be a bit dry, I still enjoyed it and found it to be a helpful course
Really bad prof. It was a course on personality but he only talked about correlations and statistics which has nothing to do with personality. His exam was 30 multiple choice. No one learned anything - he would put up Iclicker questions and everyone would get it wrong. The textbook is written by him so it isn't any help.
An extremely boring professor! His lecture slides are so confusing and full of charts and graphs that have no explanation. When he goes over these he talks as if we all know moderate to advanced level statistics when we clearly don't! All his lectures are just random studies that contradict each other.
Lectures are extremely boring and aren't needed as long as you read the textbook and follow his study lists. If you get above 80% on the first term test then you receive 100% for participation. Textbook is free, informative, and easy to read. Really nice guy.
So disorganized. His class made me NOT want to pursue personality psychology. Concepts were often unrelated. Made contradictory statements and could not clarify them. Had whole unit on sex and masturbation unrelated to personality. Textbook is his own, a wall of text and gibberish. Content is too messy to study properly. Don't ask me how I got an A
Horrible style of teaching. Expects students to remember minute details and percentages rather than theories. Absolutely no critical thinking is needed for this class but rather perfect memory. This is a sign of poor teaching. I really do find personality psychology interesting but hell kill your desire to pursue it.
the material itself isn't difficult but there are few opportunities to succeed; the midterm is worth 30%, essay worth 10%, participation's worth 20%, and the final is worth 40%. Both the midterm and final were all mc and honestly, they were a mess. Also, the essay instructions are vague and marking is unreasonable. If I could avoid him, I would.
Schimmack is quite disorganized, as he's often late with posting lecture slides, textbook chapters, weekly quizzes. Test questions had confusing wording at times, but they were open book and we had the option to not answer 3 questions and still get full marks. Easy course overall!
He's honestly a really nice professor, despite being a bit disorganized. People don't like him because his tests are quite hard online, because they are all multiple choice and is quite tricky. He uses textbook and lectures in them. His participation's a lot, so that helps boost your mark a lot. Somewhat boring lectures but he engages students well
One of the best professors I have taken. He is very fare with his grading and if you listen in lecture you will do really well on tests. The course is super easy to understand and definitely worth taking!
This professor was not very organized. He showed up over an hour late for the first class and never addressed it. He wrote the textbook with lots of spelling mistakes and goes into detail about his own life rather than content relevant to the class. His tests are very vague mc and make his expectations for the essay very unclear.
Both the midterm + exam are MC questions. They are really straight forward if you focus on the study guide. He really wants his students to do well. Gives you options to either watch the zoom video online (real-time) or watch the recording. Of course if you want to come to class for the in-person experience, you can do that too.
Overall the prof himself is great person, he really wants students to do well and is very respectful towards students. He elaborates in lecs but ONE midterms is ridicuolously hard (30%); either straight forward or some next level questions that make no sense. Most of the textbook stuff he wrote contradicts with everythin and is very disorganized.
Lectures were not very interesting. He always posted things late to Quercus. A lot of technology and uploading issues.
THE WORST CLASS I TOOK! I have nothing against him as a person, he just shouldn't teach. Extremely disorganized, the material provided (top hat book, slides..) was a mess. The midterm was online I found the questions extremely confusing and the test format was chaotic. I respect him and I respect his career but not everyone can be a teacher.
Midterm questions make no sense. Yaps and yaps. Have to buy his own written $84 textbook cause you have to do quizzes at the end of them. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND him. Class is jus correlation and numbers not fun personality stuff you'd expect. online zoom option so that's good but everything he says just goes over my head his yapping does not stop
A good guy and is caring but not the best prof. He is a bit disorganized. The course is not fun personality stuff, thats like 1 week of the course, its all statistics and correlation stuff. You must buy the textbook, tests are wordy and confusing; you must read the textbook in depth or you will suffer. Most students skipped lectures.
Very thoughtful professor, wants you to do well. Midterms/Final are much harder than the content. decently light work load.
Extremely disorganized.
Very chill & wants you to do well
Extremely disorganized. No consistent schedule for when the quizzes will be assigned. Setup on TopHat is chaotic. During the first few weeks, you had to find where the quizzes were as some were in random different folders, making more than 90% of the class miss the due date. Uses his own textbook that is subjective and lacking in research quality.
I like that his top hat textbook was free. He does go back and forth on the chapter but I find that it is due to him trying to show various perspectives/evidences. I find that if you study what is on the "study guide" (make your own notes based on the study guide), you'll do well on the test. I learned a lot about how to live a satisfying life lol
Professor isn't super formal and it's refreshing. He's pretty funny, and very relaxed (at least in PSY430). Gave weekly homework that usually included doing your own research and discussing different findings and opinions during class with weekly responses due. Definitely a lot of work, but he was willing to adjust the course load for us!
While Schimmack is a nice enough guy, he's not a good professor. His entire class is built by of AI. His syllabus has mistakes that are saying two very different things at once. It makes it very difficult to understand what to follow. His slides are NEVER complete and he lacks the ability to ever finish a coherent thought. dont take this class
Very confusing professor, I went to every lecture, but I don't think I ever left with any valuable information.
His textbook is mandatory for participation and for learning all the course content, but its full of spelling mistakes and very confusing to read, lecture slides are based on the textbook but are out of order and disorganized most of the time. No proper guidelines for assignments, and recommends AI for literally everything.
Despite tests being online, the course is not made easier, tests are extremely difficult and feel intentionally so. Slides are poorly structured, and hard to follow, making studying unnecessarily stressful. This is an unreasonably hard course, and I would not recommend it unless you are willing to risk ending up with c despite significant effort.
