After one class her accent is no problem. An EXCELLENT teacher.
Very simplistic teaching style. Great, charming woman. She is fair and makes a difficult course very undertstanding. Dont pass her up.
very nice and very fair. she gives you many oppertunities to do well in such a difficult class. Take her class if you can get in
Very nice lady, she shows a lot of example in class on one type of problem until you get it. Her class is very fun, but sometimes she can rush through things.
What a wonderful professor, she made calculus feel like algebra!! She teaches a very tough class in such an easy way. She understands her stuff and knows we don't all get it, so she'll give you examples and opportunities to make up.take that class

One of the best thats all that needs to be said.
Does not teach easy courses but excellent teacher. Always willing to help students and cares very much about their progress. Word to the wise DON'T SLEEP OR YAWN IN CLASS, its a bad idea!
She is wonderful. Approachable and willing to do what it takes to have you understand the material. She actually gets to know her students. She grades of effort not just grades.

She's the best teacher! Her tests are really easy. she helps you understand the material by giving you tons of examples. you don't have to remember any formulas. she gives you anything you need.

the nicest person you'll ever meet
Nice lady, but I really struggled in her class. I'm not good at math, anyway, but still...tests aren't too hard, but her 3's look like 2's...it's kind of confusing.
One of the nicest I've had, not exactly the most clearly understood but hey an accent is an accent. Kinda mixed up sometimes and messed up a lot but knows her stuff and is very willing to help if you don't understand before, during and after class.
She is the nicest professor I've had. She cares so much about each individual person. She wants you to understand the subject and will help inside and outside the classroom.
She is wicked nice! She loves teaching, and although she makes some mistakes...dont we all?! She is willing to help out no matter what, and you learn to understand her accent! :) awesome professor
She is a very nice professor. But sometimes she explains things in a conusing way. Her tests arent too hard if you pay attention in class, because she gives you a lot of examples.
Really nice.
She is extremely helpful, and although her accent is hard to understand at first...I PROMISE it gets easier to decifer a few weeks in...
Uma Shama is awesome!!! She's a really good teacher, and she knows her stuff. She's helpful and clear (after you get used to the accent). She's definitely one of the best professors in the school.
Easy, hard to understand but u'll get used to it afterwhile..., doesn't take attendance, gives out homework but never checks it...
She is a very nice professor, always willing to help. She cares so much about her students. Tests are not very hard at all, if you pay attention in class.
She is a great professor! She knows what she is talking about, always willing to help all her students! The tests are easy if you pay attention.
Nice person, but with thick accent that I cant get passed. If you can read the book, you will pass. No attendance taken.
shes really nice, but with the accent its really tough to understand her.The book helps...but if you need a teacher to TEACH try another one!!
Nice lady, difficult to understand, if you are a good math student then take her...tests are pretty straight forward...buy the book because she is hard to understand, rarely takes attendance, never collects homework
If you pay attention to her, her accent won't bother you. She can be a funny lady sometimes, but she doesnt give enough practice work to let you know how you are doing. She didnt take attendance till almost the end of the semester, and her tests r short
hard to understand but it forces you to pay attention..very helpful..very nice..does her best to make sure no one fails..i hate math and always do awful..got a b+ and she made it fun!
Extremely nice lady. Hard to understand at first but got use to within a couple of weeks. Very helpful. One of the best professors at Bridgewater State.
If you're a math major take her hands down! If you're GER, then it might be a tough class because of her accent. But she is a genuine teacher and pushes your thoughts.
she is a very nice woman wo truly wants you to succeed, but it is very difficult to understand her. I took calculus in high school, but got a C+ in her class because of the commmunication barrier
A sweet woman...Genuinely wants to help you. Im terrible at math, but this, hands Down, was my best experience. I'd take her again!
first time i took the class with another prf. i failed miserablly. second time around i have an A! she is amazing!
Awesome teacher...my favorite here at BSC. Is always willing to help and is one of the nicest people ever!! definitely take her classes!!!
Extremely kind, not strict with attendance, gives you many opportunities to get help before tests and quizzes, quizzes are very very easy, tests are usually examples from class and homework problems, and the final was basically all of the tests and quizzes put together so study those!!
nice, teaches effeciently and though fast will answer questions,...it's good for anybody that likes working independently, and try to finish all calculus first
Once you understand what she's saying, it's easy. For that reason, GERs may be harder than they should be, but for math majors you'll understand her after one semester, so future classes are easy because she's a real good teacher, just have to get the language curve figured out first. Test just like homework. Go to class, do the homework.
Took a class called Think And Write About Math. It was by far the easiest class I have ever taken but it was extremely dull. You make up your own assignments and pretty much do as you please. If you have to take a math GER and aren't good at math take this with her. Just don't expect it to be intersting.
I have the highest respect for Dr. Shama. She DOES communicate very well (if you listen), and she is caring and kind. She manages all of her classes, and high-profile communty projects. Dr. Shama is absolutely an all-star professor.
Dr. Shama is absolutely amazing. She does have an accent, but after the first couple of days you don't notice it whatsoever. I made it to class, took all the notes, and got an A for the class. She cares and is extremely helpful. If you improve throughout the semester she will take that into consideration for your final grade. TAKE HER!!
A+ teacher. Has an accent, but it's not too heavy. Explains things in detail if you have a problem. Also, doesn't check homework.
nice lady. If you take her don't take her for the long class because it because dull and boring real quick. Sometimes we will have fun in the class, but, sometimes my huge coffee does nothing for me. Have difficulty in math? Take her...Want a challenge? take someone else
Not a terrible teacher. Sometimes hard to understand with her accent. Not really all that great at explaining certain things..if you ask her she'll just repeat what she said before. Tests are pretty easy and she never checked homework or took attendance. Very nice lady, but I didn't learn very much and ended up with a C+ for the course.
The nicest woman in the world. Extremely helpful and just a wonderful person and professor. I don't understand why everyone has difficulty with her accent. It's not hard to understand at all and it's really quite beautiful.
She is awsome she will help you as much as she can and always finds a way to accomadate each individual student...
Theory of holors/Differential equations/calculus...take them ALL! she's awesome
Had her for Calc III and she was the best! She's very clear and her accent isn't hard to understand at all. She gives practice exams before the test and lets you ask questions at the beginning of every class. Very helpful and is very concerned with her students doing well. Take her!
This was my second class with Shama because she's the best. There's one big paper and presentation due at the end of the semester that you work on outside of class, but it's not too bad. During class she teaches other material. Homework is easy and the midterm and final are open notebook. No book to buy! Pretty good class to take for an elective.
She is the best math teacher I have ever had. I have never been a good math student but the way she presents the material makes it so easy. I highly recommend you take any of her classes! She is easily approachable and helps you asap! I would take her again!
Great teacher, really cares about her students. Easy A if you are good at Math and actually try in class.
Very helpful. Barely used the book but she is a very clear and helpful instructor. Definitely taking her for Math 152.
Best professor i've taken so far, she is very understanding and she will do everything possible to help you out. she wants her student to succeed and she will explain the problems to you as many times as you want. her exams are really easy and she does not give any quizzes. there is no way you can fail her class ! I LOVEE HERRRR <3
Uma Shama can do any Calculus problem on the classroom board in her head instantly without working it out. Her teaching is fluid, and she covers everything needed in the chapters for the exam with an even balance. And she's very enthusiastic, always helping those who need it and making it interesting to those beyond the curve.
Shama is not only a wonderful teacher, but she knows EVERYTHING about BSU and can help you out with anything you need. If she doesn't specifically know, then she can tell you exactly who to talk to. Brilliant math teacher who sincerely cares about her students.
**TAKE HER!** She is a wonderful professor and will go to endless measures to make sure you succeed. She gives 3 to 4 exams during the course and prepares you well for them. She is so sweet and caring, a truly genuine person. TAKE HER!!
Once you get past the slight language barrier, she is GREAT. Super nice and definitely wants her students to succeed. I had her for a summer class and it was a piece of cake. No textbooks either
she is helpful if you need it her accent is hard but she tries hard to help you understand would take her again
If you have the chance, take Professor Shama! She will do everything in her power to help you pass the class, she will not let you fail! Uma Shama is hands down the best professor I'v had for any class. Her accent is hard to understand at times but please look past that. Calculus is hard but Professor Shama will do everything she can to help!
She may be a nice lady, but she is by far the worst professor I've ever had. She will tell you the subject she will be teaching and just start doing problems out; no explanation of how to do them. There's only so much I can teach myself, especially not being a math person to begin with If I have a choice, I will never take a class with her again
Simply put Uma is a fantastic professor. Calc is not meant to be easy, and you will have to study if you want an A. However, she gives fantastic lectures and will go over problems until you feel confident.
Uma's the best. She's a super smart, kind person who wants her students to understand and succeed. Calc II can be hard, but she made sure she was there for us. She'll always answer your questions, whether it's about the class or BSU or career advice. And yes, she has an accent, but it's not hard to understand her at all.
This lady is a calculus teacher goddess. I don't even like math but she was awesome, my class was also at night but I still enjoyed her. She's brilliant and very helpful. She truly cares about her students best teacher I've had in a while. She has an accent which doesn't stop her from being great. No graded homework, tests are like the study guide.
She is a nice woman who is very good at teaching this level of math. Your tests are all you're graded on, so do well, because she can only help so much. Didn't even feel like calc. Tests are similar to the study guides she gives, and she has formula sheets. Lots of homework, but no penalty if not done. Fairly easy but don't wait until end to try
Goes through the material clearly and at a steady pace. Tests are just like the study guides. Only complaint is the material and way she presents it can be boring sometimes. Would take her again though if I had to.
If you can get past her accent, she will be the best professor you will ever have! She is super sweet and caring, she really wants her students to do well. I would 100% take her over anyone else!
She is the best! She explains everything and gives examples of what she just explained. She does give a good amount of homework, she didn't collect it after the 1st exam. There are 4 exams, one for every chapter you cover. For every exam she gives you a study guide which are the EXACT problems except different numbers. I would def take her again !
She is a fantastic teacher, and she does it effortlessly. If i had the chance i would definitely choose her again. 100%. Gives good practice tests, she can answer any question. Wicked nice. Some might have a problem with her accent, but that is as bad as it gets. You get used to her accent in the first week.
Professor Shama is a great professor and genuinely wants best for her students. She has allowed us to make part of our chapter exams as take home exams so we aren't stressed. She doesn't collect homework and gives out a practice exam for each exam that is exactly like actual exam, just slightly different. I can't wait to have her for calc 3
I love her so much. She is a sweetheart and honestly, her reviews guides are EXACTLY like the test but easier.
I wish I could take her for every class I need in college. She clearly, truly cares and tries her best to help you in anyway she can. Hard material- and Ive taken this class two other times. 10/10 Recommend Uma
She has a thick accent that if you can understand, you'll do fine. She genuinely cares about her students, and will approach students herself that need extra help. She makes it clear what grading material will be on her exams. Really a great professor.
I took Calc I during summer after previously failing it at another university and got an A. Shama makes everything clear and organized and will answer any questions. She also gives you ample opportunity to improve your grade. Course wasn't rushed eventhoug it was 5 weeks. Overall would definitely recommend; she made me feel confident in math again.
She is frankly by far the best math professor I have ever met in my entire life at BSU. She humanizes the subject of mathematics to a point that math is no longer difficult to understand and rather fun to learn more. She has a thorough knowledge of the application of mathematics, and she will always try her best for you to understand the material.
Amazing teacher & even better person. I wish other teachers could take her class to learn how to teach. She's so caring and really makes math fun & I hate math. She will go over the fundamentals if u forget and many practice problems. Always open for questions &wants u to succeed. Gives great practice exams to study. But no feedback on graded exams
The definition of a very mediocre professor. Shes helpful if you reach out over email, but during class dont expect too much help or clarity over the material. Students would ask if she could slow down or write the material live (as usually shed just read off a powerpoint) and she would 9/10 times decline to do so. Get ready to teach yourself.
The class is difficult but the professor is open to feedback and doing all she can to help. Expect to do a lot of studying outside of class. Co-req class was very helpful for this course.
if youre not the best at math, look elsewhere. one of my peers asked her to explain a method for solving a certain type of question and she looked the kid dead in the eyes and said "if you dont understand then you need to learn it on your own before class" would never go into depth on any subject.
She claims that she is worried about a student progress, but in the end she will not give you the benefit of the doubt. She goes back on her word about being able to turn in late assignments. She is so invested in teaching by the book. When you ask for help, she does not help you with the full problem, only about half. Try someone new for calc2.
Amazing Professor! I had her for both Calc 1 and 2 and wish I could have her for Calc 3. She's easy to understand and is great to talk to in and out of class whether about math or something else. She is very helpful and encourages students to help each other.
she is super helpful. dont hesitate to talk to her about another issues. advise for acddemic career. She doesnt make attendance mandatory but you should go to class every day, you will be lost the next class if you dont.
By my tag of test heavy, I more so mean the tests are worth a lot!! She gives points on HW but those only are calculated in a HW category and the average (I think?) 20% of the final grade (it's kind of weird). Besides that, she cares about her students and is very accommodating. She does have a thick accent but its understandable enough.
Very nice professor who understands the material and teaches it very well. If you understand calculus and show up to class and do what she says you will pass. Very fair with the workload and an overall great teacher.
Hands down best math professor I've ever had. Her lectures are in-depth and very detailed and the notes reflect it. She has no problem going over classwork and homework. The pace is great and she is very compromising. I recommend you don't miss class because its up to you get the notes you missed.
This class was completely online. However, it would take weeks for the professor to get back to me or completely disregard my email even when it was about my grade.
Really easy online class if you struggle with math. The assignments she hands out make it very clear what you have to submit by the end of the week and you can complete the work on your own time which is nice. She gives 3 quizzes throughout the semester which you can retake each quiz up to three times and she takes the best grade.
She is a very nice woman. Not very hard class and she is easily accesable outside class. Shes smart but she doesnt expect you to get it all in one class like other teachers. Also shes not a harsh grader on tests and when you do get something wrong she will tell you what you got wrong and if you contact her through email she is willing to help.
Good professor who is not a difficult grader. Graded on 4 exams, one final, and homework. Tests are worth a lot so make sure you study for it. Every class, she taught something new or went over the same topic to make sure everyone understood, so try not to miss class, or you'll fall behind since she doesn't post notes from class.
This woman is such a good professor that she made me think I wanted to be a math major. I'm wrong, I HATE MATH. But, oh my god, she deserves the whole world at allllll costs.
Best professor to make an online class with. Ive taken her twice, she makes it so easy and simple to get work done and always answers. 10/10 take her especially if you are not a math person.
THE BEST so clear and you are allowed to go ahead and just get the work done whenever you want and don't have to wait around. TAKE THIS PROFESSOR.
She's a good teacher, she gets right into the class work when she gets into class, but she does show up late a lot, even though its by a few minutes, As long as you do the work you'll be fine, but she can be kind of hard to understand sometimes.
Best professor, Teaches well, explains smooth. Be prepared to do the Homework and you will nail the exams with at least a 90. If you follow that you'll get and A in the class.
I took her over the summer, she's an amazing professor and genuinely cares about her students. I did fail because I went to the hospital during finals and missed the whole week it was due but that's on me. She did reach out multiple times and genuinely wanted me to pass.
