gave great bonus points. a little erratic and not very easy to follow. not very well prepared for class...
I think she is a great professor. Her tests are mostly from her power points. If you don't understand something she will repeat it more than once. You will learn a lot and make an A as long as you attend the class.
I took biology with this professor, she teaches good but she wasn't there for help when I needed it.
The people who say Uma is the worst teacher ever only say that because they did not put in the time to study and so they did bad and blame Uma. She is a sweet lady who really cares about her students and how much they learn. Put in the effort and you will do amazing. I've never learned more in a class. It was amazing.
I had Uma when I took Bio 1. This wasn't an easy class, and she had to present lots of material with little time. Although she teaches at a fast clip, she stops and makes sure everyone understands the material. She is also pretty nice and accommodating; if you miss an exam, she works with you to make it up. She was the best prof I had this semester
She is a very good professor, and her lectures are informative and clear. She makes sure that her point is understood through out the class, and goes to great length to ensure everyone understood the topic. Her test are not necessarily easy, but if you study appropriately you will do fun. Overall, a great professor.
Caring prof who really concerns herself with your wellbeing. She's kind, gives good informative lectures, and is not out to screw your GPA. Tests and quizzes are very fair, as long as you study you will be fine. My only compliant is that she is very loud, and her lectures are mostly at a yell. But she's funny and sweet!
tests were a little unclear but pretty good lecturer and makes sure u understand material
Harder than Burr...which I liked because you learn the material more. You don't need the book. Just study the powerpoints--but don't just memorize what's in front of you. Make sure you actually understand the pictures shown on the slide. I usually don't go to class because I study by myself but for this class I definitely went; her tests and quizze
This class was a delight. I took this science for non-majors and learnt so much! It was difficult, yes, but she made sure you understood. She doesn't offer this class anymore, but the time I spent with her was wonderful. She was a great prof who will make you learn biology!
Great professor. Easy to talk to and her quizzes and tests are very fair. Test material is 95% ppt based. She makes sure the class understands concepts by going around and singling people out and asking them the steps of glycolysis etc.
Really good professor, has a quiz almost every week to keep you prepared for exams. Study slides (all of them are online) come to class because that's when quizzes are given, not in workshop. Attend workshops, will help you. Also, she gives out 1 free 100% quiz grade, but doesn't tell you when. Basically, GO TO CLASS. She helps as much as she can.
She makes her class way harder than it has to be for no reason, no drop grades 1 bad test ruins it all. its not knowing the subject, it's knowing it her way only. Since there are people that appreciate her effort in trying, it would be odd for me to say she is a bad teacher except say her teaching style did not suit me.
If you keep an open mind she is a very good professor. She can come off as intimidating but she always means the best for her students. She is not afraid to call you out in class for answers, and that discomfort forces you to study early for quizzes and tests.I retook the class with her after Burr, and actually learned.Exams are badly worded though.
STUDY HER SLIDES, which are based on stuff from the textbook. Don't even bother buying the book. She tries to accommodate students like moving the test date to not interfere with students' other exams. She likes to call people out during class. Study every detail on slides and you should do well.
Her tests are multiple choice and free response. Spelling counts! Know everything on her slides. Workshops help to focus on main topics.
The best teacher I ever had. She is generous and very helpful. She even gives us advice that really helps.
She is an extraordinary professor who is very knowledgable. You should really think about taking biology only with Dr.Uma Srikanth.
Greatest professor of all times... there are even stats to prove it.
I have no idea why she doesn't have a perfect rating. By far my favorite professor this semester, and so far my favorite overall. Uma is very passionate about what she teaches, so her lectures are actually very interesting. She is very helpful and is a genuinely thoughtful teacher; she does whatever is in the best interest of her students.
Very determined and is always willing to stay after class to answer our questions. The #1 teacher in the world!!
The material was pretty hard and detailed. Slides were super useful, I recommend reading the textbook carefully and taking side notes along the slides. Class is not mandatory but I do not recommend skipping it, as it will help reinforce the material. Teacher is pretty cool, really cares about her students, but is sometimes unclear. Tests are hard
Super helpful professor! Goes out of her way to help you and overall if you study the class is not bad. No trick questions and straightforward tests.
Really good Prof. she knows her stuff and does everything she can to help you succeed. She wants to see her students do well, her test are sraight forward with no tricks and is best option for BIO 1. I took the other prof. Burr and did not like him at all retook with Srikanth and LOVED IT!
Dr. Srikanth is one seriously cool professor. Yes, she does seem hard and mean when she lectures you in class because she stares you down and pick people to answer her questions. In person, she is really sweet and passionate about what she teaches. Doing Advance Writing with her!!!
Let me break down Dr Uma's teaching style for bio 3301. Concepts. Concepts. Concepts. Do not waste your time memorizing the textbook. Make sure you understand everything in her slides, especially the diagrams, because that is what you will be tested on. If you understand the mechanisms, the better for you. I got an A btw :) Shes very sweet
Very difficult to understand, she has a think Indian accent. She speaks very fast, but all of her lecture notes are posted online. Attendance is not mandatory or needed in my opinion.
She expects you to memorize her entire PowerPoints to the minute detail. her questions are tricky and sometimes confusing. She goes too fast and assumes the class knows the material so she does not go over the material clearly. She makes it too difficult and she does not properly teach the material thoroughly but goes really fast.
To start off, I took Srikanth for BIOL 1301 and it's pretty much the same test format for mol cell. There are only two things you need to do to get As on her exams: memorize the powerpoints and refer to the book for the pictures ONLY. Exams are mostly FR with little MC. STRAIGHT RECALL. She is really nice and fair. Willing to help also!
Dr. Srikanth's class is fair and much more doable than Burr's for sure. The tests and quizzes are straightforward and take material straight from the powerpoint. Now straightforward does not necessarily mean easy. To get an A in the class, you will still actually have to understand the material and master all the slides. Highly recommend!!!
If you really focus on her lecture, you can get a good grade. Her exams can be a bit tricky or vague but if you know your material, you should be fine. Her slides are easy to follow, but her lectures can be long, wordy, and confusing. However, she does make you work hard and you learn a lot in her class.
After doing so poorly in Wilson's BIOL2312, I was seriously thinking to change my major from biology to something else. But Dr. Srikanth has definitely motivated me to continue pursue my interest in Biology. She genuinely cares about her students and teaches with passion. I've never skipped one class because her lecture is so interesting!
I really do enjoy her section but be prepared for some studying. make sure to know the materials FORWARD and BACKWARD. She asked a lot of concept questions. test can be tricky. most of her tests are free responds with maybe 10 MC. Oh also be ready to draw. its a drawing class
Dr. Srikanth is a fantastic professor and is very helpful. She can be intimidating at first, but she genuinely cares about her students and wants them to pass. Her tests can be difficult, but if you know the material she has presented in class and make sure you understand what she is teaching then the tests are actually pretty easy.
Dr. Srikanth comes off as intimidating and puts kids on the spot in lecture, but I would say she is the best Bio 1 professor. Her quizzes are hard, but her tests are easier than the quiz. The key to doing well is memorizing what she tells you to memorize and really studying the slides. She made me believe I could succeed in Biology!
Dr Srikanth comes off as intimidating, but she honestly really just wants you to learn. She doesn't test you off random things. If you know and understand her powerpoints, there's no reason not to get a 100 on the tests. It's just a lot of information, and you WILL have to work hard. Her class really helped later on in biochem I. Recommend!
Srikanth is a great professor (PERIOD). She lectures quickly and loudly but she tries to keep the class engaging and lively. Her tests aren't hard as long as you go through her power point slides and you'll be fine. Attendance is mandatory for quizzes but the best part about her class is she bumps half a letter grade for your final grade.
Study Dr. Srikanths slides and understand them thoroughly. She's honestly a great lecturer but you have to keep up (it'll take time) as she speaks fast. I loved her teaching style by the end, and grew to love biology more because of her. Shes also extremely fair, and her tests are fairly easy, quizzes as well. I loved her!
Srikanth was an okay lecturer, but she tests you based on everything in her powerpoints. She grades fairly and asks fair questions though. If you come to office hours, she is very nice and will address any questions you have about the material or past tests.
she teaches very fast so it's easy to miss a lot if you zone out. good teacher, but i dislike how she calls people out constantly. for me and i'm sure some others that hinders my ability to learn severely. constantly being thrown unexpectedly into panic mode does not help me retain info... she gives interesting application examples
She really cares about her job as a professor and a mentor. I loved being a TA for this class. That's when I realized how passionate she is about teaching and how seriously she considers her duties. All she wants is for students to truly understand the material and do well on her tests. She hates cheating and really looks out for it.
Really great professor. Learned a lot!
Dr. Srikanth is wonderful. She is very strict, but at the end of the day you know she cares. She pushes you really hard to study ahead of time, so you aren't cramming the night before the test. Her class is well organized and structured and you will learn a lot.
Best bio professor at UTD! Do not miss the chance to take her! Great lecturer and always available for question after class or during office hours. Really cares about her students.
I had Dr. Srikanth for both Bio I and Mol Cell. The way she does her mol cell class is a bit different. Not everything is on the slides so you have to go to class to do well on her tests. But if you don't skip class then her section should be an absolute breeze.
I LOVED Dr. Srikanth! She was a wonderful professor who always pushed her students to work their hardest. With that being said, there was a lot to memorize in her class but if you go to her lectures and pay attention, you'll be able to make an A without any problems. Definitely take her over Burr! 10/10
Dr. Srikanth is a great professor. She is strict in class, however, during office hours she is very nice. I never told her my name, however, she took the time to learn who I was. Her tests are very in depth and require a total understanding of the subject. You will not only have to memorize but be able to apply concepts. Work hard, attend lecture.
Great Professor!
A very interactive and lecture-dependent class; going to class really helps as slides arent as useful as Dr. Srikanths lectures. Her in class activities help a lot, although some find them intimidating. Quizzes and tests are easy; mandatory homework but not hard. Take her if you can. A really nice professor and a really fun class!
Dr. Srikanth may seem intimidating but she actually cares for her students. She's a good lecturer. Although her tests are somewhat tough, they're doable. Definitely attend class. She remembers her students and who sits where and with whom. Workshop isn't that helpful unless you have a good undergrad TA. She made it easier to make an A. Take her.
Words questions on quizzes/Tests in a confusing way. Talks a lot during exams/quizzes impacting the time we have left. Covers material but doesnt specify on which certain part you should know. Her slides do not help as much but the textbook helped more. During exam, told us there were multiple answers for each questions but was only for 4 question
Her tests are very fair, but can come off as tricky if you do not know the material in detail. She cares for her class and wants all of us to succeed however she can be hard to understand sometimes.
One of the worst professors I've ever taken. She gives extremely long exams but goes on a tangent before exams/quizzes so we don't enough time to finish. 15 minutes into an exam, she announced our multiple choice exam could have multiple answers , and that it could be any of the questions. Also extremely condescending when she talks to students
Short answers on exams and quizzes are straight forward but require total memorization of specific terms and checked by TA's who cut lot of points. Quizzes all short answers and exams 50 easy straightforward multiple choice with 10 short answers that might require memorizing molecule structures. Yells while lecturing. Workshops are lectures by TAs.
She posts homework at random times of the week without any announcement and due dates are one day after posting and none are dropped so people miss a lot. Early part of semester announces what to study for the quizzes or exams. No reviews.
The lectures are amazing and the power points contain all the information to do well in her exams. In addition, she is available outside her office hours and conducts a very long review session before the final exam.
She is genuinely interested in the students performing well. She goes out of her way to explain difficult concepts and is available for questions after every lecture.
Dr. Srikanth is very fair and in fact helps us navigate through questions during exams. She walks around during exams answering individual student questions. She tried to help us by mentioning that there were multiple answers for some questions.
Dr. Srikanth posts all announcements about assignment due dates and everything else on elearning. She discusses her exam structure during lecture and gives a clear outline of every chapter.
Everything comes from slides. Some problem type questions taught off slide on white board. Homework 12.5% grade is just completion points. She curves final course grade based on overall class average. 7.5% of grade from quiz with few being marked on completion based on her discretion. No quiz dropped. 4 exams no cumulative final.
She is unable to cover half of the chapters she states in the syllabus so she keeps omitting chapters. 4 exams each weighted differently. 80% of grade exams.
Dr. Srikanth's syllabus clearly states it is tentative and she updates the syllabus as we move along. She is very clear on her expectations from us and never asks question son concepts that is not covered in class.
Dr. Srikanth cares about her students, gives amazing lectures, and is very patient about repeating concepts that are hard to understand.
She will ask questions some classes and give bonus points on tests, so don't miss class. Attendance is not mandatory but I highly recommend it as there are a ton of participation in the class, whether you want to talk or not. Super nice and funny teacher, should be an easy A if you put in a little effort.
Dr. Srikanth is always looking to bring out the best in her students. Attend class and it is an easy A
Dr. Srikanth gives awesome lectures and posts homework and class lectures ahead of time. Very reasonable class assignments that count towards exam grade. I like the depth of concepts covered in lectures.
Her scantron machine always makes mistakes so you have to go to her office and review your answers to make sure you get your deserved points. She is rude and uninterested to help during office hours. Makes you do your problems and says if it is right or wrong or makes her undergrad TAs do the work. She gives bonus points on exams or in class asig
She's the best bio 1 teacher at UTD, take her, IS THAT CLEAR?!
Do yourself a favor and take Dr. Shrikanth. She is incredibly well versed in the subject matter and will do her best to make sure every understands it. Yes, this might include questioning individuals during class. To anyone who thinks she's interrogating people, trust me she's the good cop. Since this might be read in class, Hi Dr. Shrikanth.
"You don't have to memorize. You just have to commit to memory." - Dr. Srikanth Other than that, she's actually a sensible and caring professor. Her exams are equally heavy on details and concepts. I would suggest taking her for bio 1. You don't actually have much of a choice; she's the only one teaching it.
Dr. Srikanth is a good teacher but she seems to have a narrow mind when it comes to accepting alternative answers to questions. She phrases questions on the exam weirdly and then gives a lecture to the students that they are supposed to know what the question means. She is excellent at teaching although she loves drama and will torture you a lot.
Dr. Srikanth really knows her stuff and if you're pre-med, taking her will help A LOT for MCAT. This class has a lot of information - take it step by step but make sure you know everything and anything on her slides unless she says otherwise. She can ask specific questions on quizzes and tests. She is very helpful, caring and clear about grading.
Lectures were great. she tells jokes and asks students questions in front of the class (scarring for some, entertaining for others). She knows her slides well, but that shouldn't be confused with knowing biology well. She is not very capable of answering questions. She also words test questions confusingly by avoiding key words, and switches terms.
The class itself was informative and really helpful for pre-med kids. Dr. Srikanth is somewhat of a self absorbed character- incredibly rude and unhelpful during office hours & spends 10 minutes at the beginning of class defending her character. Her tests are straight from the lecture though, and the quizzes and hwk are really easy. Just memorize.
She is an amazing lecturer who clearly knows her stuff. However, the supplemental slides were unorganized, and it was hard to keep track of what was important and what wasn't during the lectures. Her tests are fairly difficult and can cover anything she mentioned during lectures.
Dr. Srikanth might seem intimidating but she's a very nice person. 10/10 would take again
Dr. Srikanth is a really good professor, & if you're pre-med then this course will be of great help. Lectures are really informative. She likes to make a lot of jokes & be prepared to be put on the spot whenever she goes around asking the class questions. In all seriousness, she may be blunt & come off intimidating but she's a really good person.
Nice professor but you need to study the slides pretty heavily. Quizzes and exams include very small details from slides or application questions making them pretty tough.
She is very specific about what she wants. Exams are based off her powerpoints. Curves at the end.
I loved Dr. Srikanth. People say you have to attend her class, but EVERYTHING she will put on the tests are just from her PowerPoints. She can be inconsistent (which is why people don't like her), but she was super sassy and I really enjoyed her class regardless. Do the weekly assignments & memorize EVERY LITTLE THING on her slides.
For an A+ (curves to around a 94) Solid prof. Go to class, everything on her slides plus what she says in class shows up on exams and quizzes (not too bad). Go to workshops especially for quizzes! Do HW on time and memorize everything. Use flashcards! Everything is tested. Very manageable tho. Take her over Burr. Will help for pre-health students.
This teacher scares me more than my mother. If she is looking around in class to call on someone DO NOT BREAK EYE CONTACT. She stares into your soul and SHE WILL KNOW if you haven't studied, she knows everyone by name and legend has it the last person who went to office hours.... never came back. Other than that great teacher 10/10 would take again
She can be a bit intense, and it is not an easy A, but if you put in the work and show up to class its really not that bad. She does everything she can to help her students and knows that a lot of people taking her class are pre-med so she structures the class around that. That being said- memorize every detail from her slides & you'll be fine
Dr. Srikanth truly got me to love biology. She can be a bit intense at times, and honestly kind of terrifying, but as long as you study and try to learn the concepts, youll go a long way and get the grade you want. AMAZING for pre-health students, definitely take over Burr. Bc of Srikanth I actually understand biology. Definitely take :)
I highly recommend Dr. Srikanth for Bio 1 over Burr, she really forces you to learn and understand the material. You definitely have to put in the effort to understand the material to apply it. Gives a few free quizzes, and curves the class in the end based on the class average. Dr. Srikanth wants her students to succeed and it really shows!
Dr. Srikanth is very smart, but tough. Her lectures are very heavy and slides contain lots of information. It's difficult because her 2 "quizzes" are 12 questions (some MC, some short answer). There's a lot of slides and she doesn't really tell you what to focus on. The great thing is 3 EC on quizzes and you can get over 100. Saves you!
Show up to class because she goes over the slides. Don't need the textbook just memorize the ppt and you will be good for the test.
Professor Srikanth was hands down one of the hardest professors I have ever had. Honestly bad experience overall:(
Had her for 2 classes. Her exams are very lecture heavy, and you will need to attend and take notes. Her exams require you to have a deep understanding of the content to pass. She offers EC attendance checks. While the exams are difficult, they are fair, and she is great for any premed who would like to develop great study skills. My fav professor
There are four exams, with no cumulative final. The exams are difficult but doable if you know the slides very well. Dr. Srikanth's lectures start to get a little monotone, but she tries to keep them engaging with class activities and examples. She's a solid professor. The quizzes are good practice for the exams and make sure to do the online hw.
Dr. Srikanth is the best of the best professor of Biology at UT Dallas. She is a very caring and sweet professor. She is always willing to help her students to succeed. If you want to make good grades in her class, you will need to attend the lectures and workshops. Never miss even one! Homework are due weekly. They are very beneficial to exams.
What can I say about Dr. Srikanth that hasnt Already been said about sliced bread? Theyre both phenomenal and make life much better for everybody
this teacher won't care about your mental well being at all. so good luck being in this class
I had Dr. Srikanth for 3 different classes and I went from being indifferent to loving her classes. She is genuinely kind to her students and wants to see you succeed. She will definitely push you to be a better student. Attend lectures and take good notes and an A is well within reach. I wish more professors cared about students like she does.
She was unprepared for this semester. With almost every assessment, we were using a different system. It was very difficult to be prepared for anything in this class b/c she has a fear of being transparent with her students. I still couldn't tell you the format of her questions b/c it was something new every time. Avoid her for an online course!
Prof Srikanth didn't seem very well prepared for the online class environment, her quizzes were plagued with technical difficulties which caused delays lasting hours sometimes. Her lectures aren't anything special and honestly aren't worth attending. Basically as long as you study the slides she posts and know them well you'll do just fine.
I haven't had an exam in the same format the entire semester, they feature banks of questions so best of luck with the draw, questions can be very specific and obscure. I'm not sure how final grades will be done 4 days away from final. Technical errors have delayed quiz by as much as 6 hours. Bad communication,my others professors all adapted better
No consistent formatting between all her exams and quizzes. Uses test banks, so RNG matters more than studying. Her slides are a mess. Very repetitive and incoherent at times. Every single test has been formatted differently. Office Hours are useless. When asked, she could not answer her own quiz question. Avoid her online if you can help it.
Horrible professor. Huge ego. Tests/quizzes check if you can memorize. She had the audacity to tell me that 10hrs per wk isn't enough for her class. TAs counted 1 of my FRQs wrong on a test, asked her abt it in off hrs and she didn't even reread my ans. She just told me I was wrong. Upon request she read it and grudgingly gave me points I deserved.
Took this class with 3 other sciences. This class was unreasonably difficult. If you understood and memorized you still could NOT do well. Im doing better in Organic Chemistry than Biology. I love biology but this made me despise it. Would not advise taking online. The Professor never curves, but this semester she is because of the grades.
Very challenging course/professor. Weird disconnect between the lectures and the exams. Studied for exams/quizzes for 5-10 days, was met with questions on SUPER obscure things from lectures or things not on the slides at all. Frustrating- I feel like I learned a ton about biology, but didn't do well in the class. Maybe she's better in person.
3 HW assignments (total 7% of grade) and about 10 questions each. 3 exams for Srikanth's half of BIOL3302, each about 15 questions, most multiple choice, a couple free response. No online proctoring. Watch lecture recordings and take notes. Study slides as well, but they are a bit sparse on info. I felt like she explained more during lectures.
Ruined biology for me. Tests are impossible even if you know you material. Pray to god and make sure your stars are aligned. She will ruin your GPA. Good luck. May the odds be ever in your favor.
Dr. Srikanth is a very caring professor who is constantly worried about the well-being of her students. She has mentioned that she will curve the grades at the end and has been available to answer questions during office hours every week. She has constantly posted announcements about the week ahead and about the format of her exams.
Given the circumstances, I believe Dr. Srikanth gave her very all to shift us to online learning. I felt the exams were reflective of what we learned in class and that I had the freedom to ask her questions as I wished. She is a very open and welcoming professor and made sure I had what I needed to succeed. Definitely would recommend!
Dr. Srikanth did everything in her capacity to ensure that we as students learned every concept extremely well despite the switch to online. She is the most caring professor I have ever seen. To succeed, you must understand the powerpoints completely, attend class, and attend workshop. Following these instructions will guarantee you an A.
Taking classes during the pandemic came with many uncertainties, but Dr. Srikanth responded to all my questions immediately and made the transition onto online learning very easy to follow. Theres also a huge curve at the end of the semester which I was so thankful for. Would highly recommend taking her, one of the best professors at UTD
Had a hard time adjusting to online learning but once all fell in place it became a lot easier. Still a wonderful professor that cares about her students, you could tell at times the online sem took a toll on her a bit. Adjusted level of content in order to lessen burden on students during pandemic, pay attention to what she lectures on!
Don't take her online class, not worth all the hoops she will make you jump through, especially during a pandemic. The format of the class was messy&confusing. Exams come from a huge test bank so you could be tested on something u didn't even learn. Monotone lectures, hard to watch. Weekly quizzes. Gives u less than a min per question. AVOID HER!
She's a nice lady but just an okay prof. Lectures were so boring that I could never pay attention. HW every week, 6 quizzes, and 3 exams (80% of grade + Honorlock). No cumulative final. Tests were overall not too difficult, but there is a lot of material. Nice curve at the end.
OK Heres the jiff. shes a good professor and gives a lot of examples. her tests are mainly application so try to learn everything more than just memorizing. she gives partial credit and everything is taught. PAY ATTENTION TO EXAMPLES
Professor Srikanth is very nice and caring for her students. She has very clear lectures and lecture slides which her tests and quizzes are based on. You for sure have to work hard, but its easy when she makes it so interesting.
Dr. Srikanth is one of the most caring professors that I have had. She genuinely checks in on us before each lecture and takes the time to talk to us. Quizzes are directly off the lecture. The textbook is a useful tool for exam study. Cengage is required for purchase.
Dr. Srikanth is actually such an angel. She is super understanding, and actually wants you to succeed. Try to understand the material rather than memorizing in order to get an A+ . Seriously tho this woman is a gem please take her, she worries about her students and gives her 110 percent.
Dr. Srikanth is honestly such an amazing professor, She genuinely wants her students to learn and succeed, and she also tries her best to make sure we're doing okay. Though de-densification ended, she was kind enough to continue recording her lectures and allow virtual attendance as well. Would recommend her 100% over any other bio professor.
Great professor, explains things thoroughly. If you have trouble following her then you're in for a hard time with the rest of the bio department at UTD. Content is very manageable and you dont have to use the textbook at all. She comes in clutch for biochem b/c she makes you memorize relevant info for that class+ good for MCAT.
Everyone loves her. I thought she was alright. Definitely attend her lectures. That was a BIG point of hers this fall. You literally don't need the textbook, besides for homework, because everything comes from her lectures and slides.
I get where some of the negative comments come from, but looking back (esp. as a premed), I'm SO glad I took Dr. Srikanth. I had to work HARD in her class, but it definitely paid off. Dr. Srikanth really challenged us, and I'm glad she did. I learned so much after taking bio 1 with her, and I will definitely look to take a class with her again.
She is the best option for genetics. If you study her lectures and understand the problems that she discusses in lecture, you will do well. For the hwk and online assignments, the book is your friend. She is accessible by email, office hours, and after class. Attend the review sessions for chances for extra credit.
Dr. Srikanth is a godsend and stands out amongst her peers at UTD. She teaches extremely well, taking her time with lectures. She is strict but fair; nothing unexpected shows on the exam. Take good notes during her lectures, as these will help you study. Never imagined making an A in Genetics; yet here we are. wish she taught all my classes.
I have nothing good to say about Dr. S. She randomly makes attendance mandatory on a whim. Her exams were disorganized and changed format each time. She would yell at students before exam for stuff like where you sit in the room. If you ask questions during class she will pick on you for the rest of lecture. Overall a terrible prof with a big ego
Professor Srikanth may seem a bit intimidating at times, but she is very caring and wants us all to succeed. She works really hard to provide us with very interesting, informative lectures. We have weekly assignments and attendance is mandatory on quiz/test days but it is all in the syllabus in advance. Class is content heavy so lots of studying!!
Srikanth is very knowledgeable. She initially can come off as unapproachable, but she genuinely cares about you doing well. I went to her office hours, and she would take the time to explain concepts. Her tests are multiple choice and FRQ. You will do great in the class if you study the lectures well!
Dr.Srikanth gives very passionate lectures, and it is very easy to understand the content. However, I recommend recording her lectures because her powerpoints are mostly diagrams and graphs. Understanding the content is essential for doing well in this class.
I love Dr. Srikanth! She can be intimidating at times but she cares about her students and the class is manageable. She teaches beyond the basic syllabus and wants you to succeed in upper level biology classes. At the beginning, I felt very overwhelmed but her warnings are a bit exaggerated, she just wants you to be prepared!
Dr Srikanth is definitely one of my favorite professors at UTD; her lectures are clear and easy to understand even with difficult topics. The class isn't too easy but her exams/quizzes are fair. As a lecturer, she's wonderful and it's clear she truly cares about her students. She does cold call students, but it keeps you on track.
she gatekeeping queen !
Dr. Srikanth can be a little intimidating, but is actually very caring. Her quizzes and exams are not bad so long as you understand all the concepts and are able to memorize details. Study hard and pay attention in lecture/take good notes and you'll be fine.
I love Dr. Srikanth!! I was intimidated by the class at first but she genuinely cares about each of her students and makes them feel so seen. You have to put in work for this class but it pays off for future classes and you really do learn and understand the material in depth. Take her!! You won't regret it.
She was overall good, it is just really hard to make her change anything in the grade book. She makes us memorize stuff that is more than required, which is a good thing for later courses. She is also really funny.
Basically have to memorize all the slides to do good in the class. Test questions are pretty straightforward forward and she curves the class at the end. 4 tests, 10 in-person quizzes, and homework on Cengage. You can skip class if you are good at memorizing slides.
I think Dr. Srikanth is hilarious, but can come of as rude sometimes. I'm personally not the hugest fan of her exam format, but it works well for some people. Her grading criteria is very obscure, and you'll be left guessing what your final grade in the class is. She has an undisclosed curve that she applies at the end of the course.
Very tough. MEMORIZE SLIDES! Some questions also come from lectures, so write down something she says that isn't on the slides. Really challenged you so you get prepared for the future, but unknown curve at the end to help not negatively impact GPA. IMO, quizzes were harder than exams, so don't get too discouraged after messing up quizzes.
catches a lot of flack for being rude or curt but she really isn't all that bad. definitely has a tough love approach and can be intimidating but she knows her stuff and can teach well. also pretty forgiving with late homework
Take her for bio if you want to learn! Her lectures are really amazing and it's helpful to write down what she says, especially when you go back to study. Make sure to ask upperclassmen who did well for advice :)
Dr. Srikanth is rude and never answers questions that anyone asks in lecture/after class properly. She also used to spend half of our class talking about irrelevant things other than genetics. While I don't like her as a person, I will say that her class isn't too hard and she applies a generous curve at the end of the class.
I don't even need to take this class for a full semester to tell you that she is awful. Her mood is flip flopped everyday and does a good job at humiliating students and her TA's. How come our workshop isn't mandatory attendance but UGLEP's are? I could've taken another class during that time but nope! All she is good for is reading off the slides.
so indecisive. she changes her class rules almost everyday. first we have UGLEPs for attendance, now its not required, now we have in class attendance, quizzes were fine but now we have honor lock on them. first exam had 48 questions now our second one has only 26? so inconsistent for someone who has been working here for 10+ years. get it together
Mandatory attendance and then comes to class pissed and shouts at us for 20 mins and goes on to read off slides. Waste of time and very inconsistent with her syllabus. Never know what to expect from her because of her mood swings and sudden changes in course.
an incredibly difficult and unprofessional professor. always gives us a 20 minute lecture as to how we make class so difficult for her and how we are the problem, when in reality she's the one who wastes our time and makes us behind on lectures. she has no passion for teaching. utd needs to get rid of her immediately.
save yourself and don't take her. I had a huge passion for biology since high school and Srikanth made me dread it. her teaching style is horrible, she just speeds through all the slides without going into detail because she always wastes the first half of class complaining about something. super moody.
As a muslim who goes to pray jummah, I am not able to attend the 2 pm session on Fridays, so I go ahead and sit in at the 11 am one. Srikanth was getting annoyed about people sitting in at other lecture times, so I let her know of my situation. In response, I got a yelling from her saying that I should've told her earlier. She never cared until now
Terrible professor, only reads off the slides and wastes time talking about random things at the beginning of each class.
I am seeing a lot of bad reviews recently about Srikanth, but I honestly think shes great. Her class is very straightforward to study for (good lecture slides) and she makes the class fun. She really cares about the students and wants everyone to learn. I would 100% take her again.
She plays starship in class
Srikanth is blunt but definitely cares for her students. May go over by a few mins but gets her lessons done. The comments abt her spending 20 mins to lecture was after one class got caught cheating lol. She's very available by email and office hours, and its clear what is upcoming for the week. I would take her again, just study and you'll be fine
The definition of a 2. She is funny and nice, but goes off-topic. Class is only 50 mins and 10-15 is usually wasted. Changed quiz/exam structure consistently this semester. Teaches heavily on one subject (i.e. cellular respiration) then the test barely covers it. Puts in a lot of personal opinion. Class isn't too hard though, just memorize slides.
Definitely better than most science teachers. You can self-teach the class besides mandatory attendance days where there are quizzes or team activities. My main gripe against her is that she "does too much" in terms of being passive aggressive, overly strict on some days, and blaming students when there are technical issues with her online quiz.
While she can be blunt at times, Dr. Srikanth explains the important concepts in each chapter very well. You can self-study using the slides, but going to class will only benefit you as she adds some important notes to the slides during the lecture and talks about some things which can account for bonus points on the exams. Revise the concepts!
Quizzes are difficult af. Exams are more difficult because of the wording
I think she did a good job. Quiz protocol was changed mid semester due to people cheating, which is fair. Exam question counts also changed so grades weren't as consistent. Class is half memorization. Be sure to be able to apply your knowledge on quizzes and tests as it isn't fully memorization. Pretty big curve at the end so don't worry too much.
Her mood greatly defined how good of a lecture you got. If she was in a bad mood you would get a 15-20min auntie talk about how the class is making her life harder. If she was in a good mood it would be the best lecture you've had all semester. Tests quizzes and homework loosely reflected the topics covered lecture.
Dr. S is very condescending often lecturing new material as review. She never let us review exams or quizzes stopping any learning from them. 15 of 50 minute class were spent by her defending herself which cut into lecture. At the start of the semester there were mandatory reviews outside of class. She curves a bit at the end so grading is decent.
Dr. Srikanth's behavior, grading style, and criteria varied class to class. She goes on random tangents that have nothing to do with biology for 20 mins every class. She constantly changes syllabus requirements and quiz formatting. Be ready to deal with her unpredictable behavior. She also blames technical difficulties on students.
Dr. Srikanth is such an interesting woman. She's funny as hell, but there are times she'll be in a horrid mood, and she LOVES to go on long tangents that she's really only lecturing half of class. She says that all her exam content is straight from the slides but that's a lie. The woman is unpredictable but gives me laughs.
First, Dr. Srikanth knows what shes talking about in lectures and knows the material well, BUT her lectures consist of her reading off of her slides and it makes the lectures and material boring and mind-numbing. Her slides arent going to prepare you at all for the exams or quizzes so dont bother reviewing them. Easy A if you find the resources
Dr. Srikanth was alright but I hated how she would always tell us "Memorize the slides I give you and you get an easy A." However when it came time to take the exam/quiz, none of the questions matched anything that was on her slides. Don't waste your time with her slides and find another "secret" resource to use. IYKYK Thats how youll get an easy A
She was an alright professor. She wouldn't start the lecture till a couple of minutes later & I felt that the quizzes were challenging at times. I think the best way to study for the exams is to use the slides and the textbook provided (as I didn't rely too much on the textbook when I took her class).
FIND THE TEST BANKS!!!! That is the "secret resource" people be talking about. Her exams are STRAIGHT from them. WORD FOR WORD. memorize, and ur good. Also, hw is online but easy to find/complete. Easy class -- moderate work.
Professor Srikanth is a really good professor, as she really delves into the Biology content and connects it to the real-world. The key to do well in this class is to go over the slides in full detail and study the chapters in the textbook. If you have any questions, ask the professor during office hours.
Had her for BIO 1 so i had an idea of what her teaching style is like. However, with genetics being a summer class, the effect of her talking/time-wasting was amplified by the already rushed pacing of a two-month course. Exams would cover 4-5 chapters each being around 60-70 slides each. Homework was easy but her lectures were difficult to follow.
I highly recommend taking genetics with Dr. Srikanth during summer. She condenses the most difficult concepts and teaches them in a direct manner. I advise to attend all workshops, all lectures, and do all the homework. This along with reviewing the slides will aid in memory recall and prepare you best for exams. Attendance and review is key here.
She has a tough love approach but her lectures are great, you'll learn and remember so much even after you've finished with her class. Exams aren't too bad and all you need to study are her slides.
Professor Srikanth's class is decent - just focus on memorizing the slides and you'll do well. Unstuck ai and ChatGPT were super helpful for exam prep. Attendance is mandatory, but you can get by without the textbook.
Be respectful, she does not fall for bs excuses so be honest. Very funny during lectures and a straightforward person so its never a pain to explain situations to her. Class itself is just bio so just memorize and you'll ace it.
94 was an A+ my semester, so clearly a super easy grader. Her lectures are awkward, but she doesn't test in stuff not covered. There's a google drive with her multiple choice test banks. Overall a good experience, content was easy, hw was easy, tests were particular.
Dr. Srikanth is awesome! Shes caring and funny, also her exams are easy and shes understanding with deadlines and offers extra credit.
Srikanth is sassy. Her mood would switch from calm to sarcastic to angry to funny and back to angry. She had random attendance days on second half of sem, personally didn't like lazy teaching style: Quizzes and test relied on a bank of questions ("secret resource" evb talks about). You cannot pass the class without it, so get it before class starts
Dr. Srikanth is a great biology professor. I would recommend her for biology 1.
She keeps ranting about unnecessary things and holds you up after class. She included a few questions on quizzes and exams that weren't supposed to be there, based on her own announcements. She explains well but is very strict—tries to act cool, but just comes off as rude.
Dummy easy exams, easy content, and curves at the end. But she rants every single class without fail and wastes the first 15-20 minutes of the lecture. She treats her students like high schoolers and WILL pick out students when they attend late. Her content is insanely superficial so if you want to actually learn biology/genetics, pick someone else
Exams were HARD. The material is VERY detailed and she'd skim over it in class rather than teaching. She'd waste the first 15 min of class then speed run through the material. She gave a couple extra credit so that was nice. Sit in the front and stop her whenever you don't understand something. She's v strict about coming late & sitting in the back
She's ok in my opinion. The quizzes and exams are easy as long as you study efficiently, but your main study source should be her slides. However she's funny and her mood can change from calm to sarcastic to angry, and she gives us advice about how to live life. She's very strict about being late and will call you to the front.
Very caring prof but also very strict about putting in the work. All of the content is in the slides but there's so much content that you need to put in lots of effort to make a good grade. Specific days for attendance and several dropped quizzes and hw. She will call you out in class if you are late or not paying attention. Overall a great teacher
She's a good/caring professor. Her lectures are straightforward. Sometimes she'll get into an inspirational mood and gets upset if students don't watch lecture videos she posts. Frequent quizzes and mandatory attendance. Will call you out if you walk in late or talk during class. Study a well/use your resources and the exams/quizzes will be easy.
Took her for Bio 1, Genetics, and now Cell Mol. Definitely go to workshops for her half, she gets FRQs from there. Take notes on everything she says, and study the slides 3-4 days prior to exam. Study with a friend if you can. Exams were online, and in person. Overall, pretty good lecturer, and was more lenient with upperclassmen being late.
Content is hard, but she tries to simplify as much as possible. A very passive-aggressive professor. She genuinely cares about her students, but if you do things that normally makes a professor upset, like show up to class late or talk while she's lecturing, she will call you out.
The class isn't too difficult, in part because of how good she is at explaining the content, in part the way the class is graded, and a secret third thing. You can genuinely learn a lot in this class, but you get out of it what you put into it. Srikanth really does cares about the students, so she'll always try to help them whenever possible
