Great professor and very clear in his lectures. Very straightforward and will not put anything on an exam that he hasn't gone over. Always available for questions and encourages students to go to his office hours if they ever need any help. He starts off each class with a small review from the previous class, just as a refresher. Recommended!
Great Professor! Explains things very clearly and cares about how well you do. 10/10 would take again.
Professor Caglar cares. He is very fair, and respectful to students. He doesn't make you feel dumb when answering questions in class. He is available during office hours, and is quick to respond to emails. ( Even over the weekend.) Overall, my math skills were pretty mediocre, but his lectures were clear and concise. I would recommend him.
He is a horrible professor. I hated going to his class, maybe that is why I stopped going. Is not clear with what is going to be on the tests, and doesn't give feedback. He is on the same lesson for weeks and doesn't move forward until it's too late and you're already screwed for the test. Don't take him. I am about to fail my first class ever.
If you are expecting an easy grade, this isn't your class. In general, what math class is? Expect to study the concepts and go to every lecture. He explains well and I would recommend visiting during office hours if you don't understand certain concepts. But his online hw on mylabsplus is not relevant to class lectures yet mandatory. Study Pass!
Rushes through the material. The material he goes over in class is the most basic concept and you have to expand your knowledge massively to pass the tests. Also he's from another country and has problems understanding what questions students have.
Take this professor , I'm horrible at math! My first test he crushed my spirit with a 22 . However, I did not give up and I kept trying. I even ended up passing the class. Listen out for his emails because his tutors are great. Make sure you go to all the Saturday sessions , trust me they are worth it ! Goodluck.! Oh and have $108 ready-access code
The professor seems like a nice guy, but teaching is not his thing. First of all, his examples are really really basic, to the point that is not even worth going to class. Homework is totally unrelated to the exams he gives. Honestly, you will never feel prepared. Also he is a really tough grader, and it's hard to understand his accent.
Nice guy. Pretty broken English but I had no trouble understanding him. He is fair to students and won't put anything on tests or quizzes that he hasn't gone over. Also questions are very straightforward, he doesn't try to trick you. I had As on all tests but forgot to do about a months work of homework and missed the deadline so brought grade down
This professor did a good job of explaining material, and he never put problems on his exams that weren't on his homework assignments. He always seemed like he wanted to help students rather than hurt them. Was very generous with grading and gave extra points on exams to help students who were struggling. I would take this professor again.
This professor was actually pretty decent, which pleasantly surprised me! His explanations were on point. He tests you on what he lectures on as well as whatever is in the homework. DO THE HOMEWORK! It helps so much! By the saving grace of God and his office hours I was able to pass the class well. Definitely a solid professor.
He is a very caring and patient professor. He urges people to come to his office hours and he also has LA's who we can go to. The only way to fail his class is to not make use of your resources. Yes he has an non american accent but he is still easy to understand. You very seldom encounter professors in a large school who actually care but he does.
Professor Caglar is a great professor. He's courteous, respectful and passionate about what he does. His lectures are detailed and easy to understand. Just put in the effort and you'll pass.
Really, coming to class, doing the MyLabsPlus homework, and doing the test reviews will guarantee you an A. He lets you know when the pop quizzes will be and what they will be on so you have a fair chance to study. His lectures are full of examples that can be accessed at home but he goes through them in depth. Tests are full of class examples.
Really good professor! I attended every lecture and came out understanding everything he said! He also says specifically the topics that are going to be on tests so that it is easier to study!! I loved him!
Good lectures. Professor always tries to help. Explanations are very clear and can be reapeted for a couple of times if needed
Good lectures. Professor always tries to help. Explanations are very clear and can be reapeted for a couple of times if needed. Very understandable.
Can't go wrong with Caglar. His lectures were very clear and to the point. If you still don't understand, he is super approachable so feel free to ask for help. His tests are similar to the hw so be sure you undertand it.
If you put the effort into doing your homework and attending his lectures, you should pass with an A. Although the course and his peculiar accent are hard to understand, he's very helpful and does not hesitate to answer any questions whenever in or outside the classroom. Overall, it might not be an easy class, but it's not impossible. It's on you.
The worst professor I've taken at FIU. Class is 4 exams and 1 final which is optional, no calculator allowed. The first 2 exams cover College Algebra which he refuses to go over or help. The homework, my labs plus and his lectures do not follow his exams. Ridiculous office hours. You're better off reading the book and getting a tutor. DO NOT TAKE!
Second time taking this class and so glad I chose him! Goes into full detail when explaining problems. Answers all questions you have in class. He doesn't care too much about attendance, however I would highly recommend showing up because each lecture contains ALOT of information. Homework is all on My Math Labs. Highly recommend him!
He is an awesome professor, has an accent but you get used to it quickly. Really wants to help and will spend time explaining. Pay attention in class and you will pass, his reviews are pretty similar to tests. Alot of homework though.
This professor is absolutely amazing! He cares about students. He really tries to help the students out as much he possibly can. Precal is not a walk in the park type of subject but once he sees that you are trying, he will definitely try to help you out! His explanations are clear & he ensures that you understand before moving on to the next topic.
I have never written a review before, but I must urge everyone to take Umut Caglar! He is passionate about his craft, and will go very into detail to make sure everyone understands. I did not like how in depth he went at the beginning when going over college algebra but this became an asset once the topics got harder. 5+ STARS professor. Take him!
I've never written a review but felt the need to for this professor. He is literally an angel from above and genuinely cares about his students passing and understanding. He covers each section in depth and encourages his students to ask questions on any of their doubts. He gives reviews for each exam and the homework helps alot. Take him! So sweet
What I liked about Caglar is that he really tries to make it a point that you have work for a good grade. Pre-calc is not the easiest class, and every couple weeks he would always drill into our heads to make an effort and get help, or drop the class, which not many professors tell you nowadays. He's also seems like a gentle soul.
I would recommend him to a friend to take his class. His class is straight foward and i will tell you now, it is NOT easy. The final is extremely hard so get a good grade on the first 4 Test and you will be fine. Study Study Study.
Always willing to help. Really good at explaining. Come to class, pay attention, do your homework, practice, and you'll be fine.
He's a great teacher but the material is hard. Make sure you do all of the homework and go to every class. He responds to emails quickly so don't be afraid to ask questions.
I took this class the first time with another professor and got a D because of how difficult the material was, however I got an A once I re-took it with Professor Caglar. He's super helpful and is willing to explain anything you need help with. There is weekly homework on My Labs Plus (online) which really helps you practice the material.
Professor Caglar is truly amazing. I loved taking him. He is a really great person & always very caring. You can always count on him to explain things until you get it. He allowed me to makeup several assignments when I had conflicts with other classes. He is open to extending homeworks for the class & is overall great.
Goes over materials very in depth/ take detailed notes and go to the Saturday review sessions for tests w/ ?s, he's willing to help during office hours. Really he has so many tools available for students, IF you use them, you'll surely pass the course. Awesome at what he does, would definitely take his class again. DONT LEAVE STUDYING FOR LAST MIN!
He's a really good teacher, as long as you go to class and pay attention, an A isn't impossible. He also really cares about the students and their grades. This is my second class with him, I decided to take him again.
The professor is very good at explaining the topic in multiple if not understood the first time explained. The tests are cumulative but helps in the end when taking the final because you're basically taking another one of his tests. Strongly suggest doing the practice tests and reviewing his class problems, similar to questions on tests.
Great professor, I'm not a math person, but the way he explained these math problems, even the worst person in math could easily understand it. Yes there is alot of HW but thats with any math class. I highly recommend professor Caglar you won't regret it.
A great professor and extremely knowledgeable. More than almost any other I came across, he wanted to see his students succeed and learn. He will always respond timely to your questions and concerns in and out of class, and he is very forgiving. If you take this class and actually care, I don't think it's possible to fail.
Caglar was a great professor, although he had an accent he made sure that it wouldn't affect the lesson. He lectures while PowerPoint focused, went over the chapter pretty well. Highly recommended you visit the reviews done before each test, because they really make a difference for the test.
I took professor Caglar for trigonometry and i highly recommend him. He has flexible office hours and is always willing to help you and answer any questions. I got an A in the class. Be ready for four tests and a final, but he will give you a study guide and prepare you fort them. Overall the class is fair, helpful, and informative.
Professor Caglar is an amazing professor, he is really caring about his students. Trigonometry is a difficult course, it requires a lot of studying and effort on the students' part, but professor Caglar plans a great lecture ahead with many examples that are helpful.
Professor Caglar is awesome, I highly recommend him. He explains the concepts extremely well and cares about his students' performance. His lectures are presented through a Powerpoint presentation which are available for you to review later. If you study and really practice the material then you'll get a good grade.
Umut Caglar is a great professor. He emails you a review before the exams, which are very similar to the exams. It is not hard to pass the course, you just need to put time and dedication towards it. If you need any help, you can email him and he will immediately respond. Also, try to get good grades in the quizzes, they will boost up your grade.
Great teacher just pay attention and take notes and you should pass
He's great! I got a lot out of the class. I've taken him for pre cal and now trig and honestly I have to say that he cares about his students heavily. As long as you show up to class, pay attention and constantly work on math problems you'll be fine.
The professor was extremely good and clear in explanation.
He takes his time with his lecture and thoroughly explains things to make sure all the students understand the lesson.
Possibly one of the best math professors I have ever had. He really knows what he is teaching and explains the topics profoundly. He will go over a problem until everyone understands. Honestly, if you can't pass his class it's for lack of trying on your part because he really goes the extra mile for his students.
I highly recommend professor Caglar, he is patient, caring, and will help any student out as much as he can. The class is not a breeze so prepare to study from day one and keep studying until the semester is done. Good luck!
Prof. Caglar knows what he's teaching. He uses mylabsplus to assign hw, which can be done with patience and material you learn in class. His accent is adorable IMO. The tests can be done with the material learned during lectures, and he teaches well enough that a book was not needed. I recommend him to everyone! Go Prof. Caglar!!
Professor Caglar is clear and straightforward. For every lecture, he recaps the key points discussed in the previous one, and this is very helpful since the final exam is comprehensive. His offline homework serves as a really good study material for each of the 5 tests. He is often available in his office and is always willing to help students.
Great professor. He explains topics well and will answer your questions.
I took Professor Caglar for Precalculus and was so happy with his class that I decided to take him again for Trig. He is a good professor that knows all the material and is able to teach it in a clear manner. The homework assigned is helpful in reinforcing the concepts taught in class. Paying attention in class is a sure way to pass.10/10 reccomend
Took this professor for Pre-Calculus, and I chose him again for Trigonometry because he was a great teacher.
The homework and quizzes are online! He explains everything very well in class and takes his time explaining the basics. There are 4 test in total plus tge final. Final is cumulative which can be hard however if you study you should pass. The 4 test are not multiple choice but honestly they are not hard at all. Great professor!
Professor Caglar is just an amazing professor. His lecture is based directly off the textbook and he makes sure that everybody fully understands the material before moves on. All homework helped prepare me for the exams. He is a caring professor who makes class fun and a joy to attend. I definitely recommend him!!!
Great teacher, teaches what is going to be on the test, mock tests are very much like the actual test. Homework and quizzes he gives will help a lot with the test. Overall great guy and teacher. I would take him again
I had Umut Caglar for MAC 1140, this is a difficult class at FIU, failure rate was around 50%. THIS PROFESSOR MADE ALL THE DIFFERENCE. He is an extremely proficient educator, thoroughly covers all material necessary to past the tests, and honestly cares about his student's success. TAKE THIS PROFESSOR, but don't forget to work hard yourself!
Prof Caglar is amazing. I am so glad that I took his class. He really wants his students to pass. Pre-calc is not easy. Prof Caglar was always thorough in teaching us and always gave us further help if we needed. He also provided many resources outside of what was given in lecture or in the textbook. I highly recommend taking his class.
If you're considering taking this class, do so. He has a slight accent but if you sit up front it is fine. This is not an easy class by any means. But he works very hard to try and help you and genuinely wants you to succeed in the class. He ended up rounding my grade up in the end but I had to show that I wanted to pass. A hard teacher to find.
Do mylabsplus, don't lazy out on it.
Great professor, really cares about the student. Test aren't bad, he gives great practice test for all of them. homework is homework, math always requires a couple assignments a week, but its not impossible. always offers office hours and recently added LA days through out the week so you can always get help if you need it.
Uses powerpoint to go through sections. He does a lot of problems on the board to show specific examples of what you may see on the test. There's a good amount of offline/online homework, but it's not too hard. Make sure you go to class.
Prof is awesome, he really cares for his students. There is online hw, 8 offline hw's, 3 exams and a cumulative final. If you go to class you will understand material. He will encourage to ask any questions and is willing to help students. VERY fair professor. TAKE HIM if you can. It is the best math professor I have taken at FIU
Probably one of the best FIU teachers out there. He is very kind and fair and waits for his students to understand the material before moving forward. The only thing is the course is really demanding so a lot of for MAC1140 but Mr. caglar gives you the tools to success.
WOW! BEST PROFESSOR IN THE WORLD. He is so sweet, always willing to help and is a great professor. This guy is the best!!! Take him, pay attention and you will not regret it. Do your homework!
First time writing a review, but I must because this professor is the BEST. I love how much math I learned in his class, He's such a good teacher! teaches extremely well, rare to find in math. You will for sure learn the material with him. Aside from being smart, He's kind, caring, and generous. You will not regret taking math with him. TAKE HIM
Gives a lot of extra credit. Trig is MUCH harder than it sounds, don't slack off like I did. Half the class had dropped by the end of the semester. Do not miss assignments on MylabsPlus. Very considerate guy. Gives partial credit on assignments so write something down if you have no idea what to do. Put the time in and you'll get the results.
Professor Caglar was an excellent professor. I took this course over summer A term & the time was limited, he did an excellent job of teacher & making sure everyone in the class understood the content. Since it was summer A, there was a test every week and there was a lot of Homework and quizzes, but it is doable, you just have to put in the work.
He's really a good professor and genuinely cares whether or not his students do well. The class for me was difficult, but he was a great teacher he has an accent but if you sit up front you can hear him just fine
I came into pre-calc thinking it was going to be super hard, but I am going to end up with either an A- or an A. He has a soft accent, but he is understandable and does a great job explaining everything and doing examples to make sure everyone understands the material. 11/10 would take again.
Umut is a very nice professor, he really tries to help everyone's grade and tries to explain everything as best as he can. He needs more practice teaching calculus. We were playing catch up all semester so he'd try to cover a lot of material too quickly. No study guides, quiz grade-boosters, tough exams. He's better equipped for other math courses.
Calculus is a very difficult subject so you have to do the homework and study regularly, but professor Caglar makes it very clear and takes his time to explain and answer questions. He also reviews the previous lecture in the beginning of class. He is always willing to help during his office hours and will even stay after lecture to explain.
After taking the departmental final exam, I don't think our class was as prepared as the other classes if final exam was any indication of where our skills should be. It was more difficult than we imagined and hold a heavy percentage on your final grade. God save us all.
Professor Caglar made a very difficult class doable. He was always avalible during office hours, and helped you with every question you had whether it was about a quiz or exam or just a problem you are having trouble with. He cares a lot about his students passing so he will work with you if you show him you are truly trying. Take him!!!!!!
He is a very good professor. Every lecture he took time to explain every single step of a math procedure making the lecture very easy to understand. Calculus is a hard course so you are expected to work hard if you want a good grade. If you dont practice math on your own you wont pass.. So dont expect profesors to do everything for you :)
Do yourself a favor and take him. He is by far the best math professor I have had at FIU. Calculus is a challenging course so you will need to do the homework so you do good on the exams. He cares a lot about his students, reviews the material, and gives partial credit on exam questions. If you fail the class, it is definitely not his fault.
GOAT. Best Math professor in all of FIU.
AMAZING! One of the best if not the best math professor at FIU. He truly cares about you and your grade. Takes his time teaching the material and gives lots of chances to receive a good grade. Take him!
He is amazing, he explains really well, never moves forward until you have understand everything he helps you with everything he can on his office hours, gives extra credit, 4 exam and one final he prepares you for it and gives you hints on whats going to be on the final if you put 3 hours of study per class session you should get an A FOR SURE
Proffessor Caglar is an amazing professor. Prior to taking his trig and precalc classes I had F's in both course. I took his class once and had A's. He makes math easy to understand and always replies to his emails. He is a truly committed professor.
Professor Caglar is a professor who genuinely cares about his students and wants to see them succeed. He constantly goes over material, making sure everyone understands and no one is left behind. Like any math, Calculus requires a lot of practice. You have to put in a lot of work and do the homework. If you do that, there is no reason to not pass
Great understanding of pre-calc, and does a good job of breaking it down, and teaching it to the the students. Prepares you well For each test. Loves answering any questions students may have about the work.
This Professor is absolutely amazing , he genuinely care about his students. Visit his office hours he helps a lot with whatever you dont understand. Lectures are clear and to the point. Take himmmm!!!
The grading is generous in this course. He drops your lower MyMathLab homework and quiz as well as your lowest online in-class HW. He offers a couple extra credit quizzes worth a letter grade on tests. He responds quickly to emails, is a good lecturer, and cares about student success. That being said, you still must earn you grade in this course.
Intelligent individual. Almost everything is done on mylabsplus. There are 5 tests and 9 offline hw's. Prof. knows the course well and is a good lecturer. Grading is very lenient. Listen and take any advice given by the professor. He wants his students to succeed and gives all the tools to do so. Dedicate adequate time and you will do well.
Great teacher, not to much hw just pay attention in class and you'll be fine. His lectures are very good and he is always willing to help
This man is incredibly smart and well-mannered. As head of the math department, he has say over alot and works har with you. He is aware that theres alot of exams and he gives extra credit and work to help your grade. Pay attention and ask questions.
Professor Caglar is the best professor you can take for Trig.. or any math class for that matter. Hes kind, soft spoken, and is always upfront with you and will not move on from a lesson unless he knows all the students understand the material. He is also a pretty linient grader. Youll definitely learn and pass his class so long as you try.
Caglar is the greatest math professor in FIU. Pre-cal is not an easy class, it has the highest failing rate, but he explains all the little things to make it easy to understand. He cares about the success of his students and wants everyone to do well. You must earn your grade in this class, but he can help you understand it alot.
The best professor I've ever taken for math. I was never one to like math and Caglar really changed that for me. He's such a great teacher/person really knows what hes teaching & tries 110% to make sure the class understands his lectures. Goes back to review before an exam and tries to help everyones grade. Available when you need him.
Really great! He works hard to make sure everyone understands before moving on, all grades are handled through mylabsplus with the exception of exams and a few HW assignments, so as long as you keep up with it, the class is very easy to pass. His exams are fair and the reviews given are adequate prep.
The class requires a lot of practice and HW but his lectures are extremely helpful. He discusses every topic thoroughly. Really cares about students. Tests are of average difficulty but he is very lenient when it comes to grading. Amazing professor.
I usually don't take offline math class, I tend to teach myself but this professor made me realize I should give a chance to the professors because he is extremely caring, high amounts of extra credit, he will teach a thousand times if he needs to. If he was teaching Calc 1 i would take him no doubt. 10/10
Outstanding professor! If you have the chance to take a course with him, please do! He tries very hard in making sure all the students understand the material, he's very easy to talk to, and is respected by all of his students. He reviews material that students may have not understood in previous exams and is VERY forgiving. You WILL pass his class
Very nice professor. Studying is what will allow you to succeed in the class because the material is not difficult. Just make time for the class. He will extend dates, etc.
This professor did not teach for the few couple weeks, it was very frustrating. He eventually started to teach because persons were not attending class and they were complaining. The tests are hard and the work load is hard. You really would have to be naturally good in math or seek tutoring help daily to pass.
Great professor. He is so helpful and kind. You have a few assignments a week but he gives two attempts for quizzes and they're easy. One of the best math professors I've ever had.
Honestly if you ever have the chance to take a class with this man, do it! He really cares about his students and wants everyone to succeed in his class. But if you dont study or do all of the assignments, its quite difficult and tests would be very hard for you. But he offers extra credit which helps
Caglar is great, if you struggle in math he's a great professor to have because if you go to his office hours he will really help you and explain stuff in detail. Great guy
I took him for Finite Math, he did not seem aware of what he had to do. He was always lost. You can tell he was a good person but I would not take him again, I had to teach myself.
Honestly, Professor Caglar is the best math Professor I've ever taken. Like any math class you will have to put in effort to pass, however, he will be there to assist and guide all his students along the way. Recommend him to anyone and hope they enjoy taking his class as much as I did. Exemplary professor.
Professor Caglar is one of the best math professors I've had at FIU. I have never even left a review on here but I feel compelled to do so after being in such a great class. He's very understanding, explains things without skipping steps like other math professors do, and is always available for questions, comments, and concerns that we may have.
Truly a great teacher. His #1 priority is making sure his students are actually learning the material but gives so many opportunities to receive a high grade for those that are struggling. It is a heavy workload with homework and other assignments but it's really worth it. He does his best to ensure his student's success. 100% would take again!
Really caring professor that made adjustments to his teaching plans and asks for student feedback in order to help his students succeed. Even if you aren't a total math wiz, you can still do well if you put in some effort. Will also give students second chances after every exam with a "redemption quiz" that adds points to the overall score.
Professor Caglar is great. He really wants everyone to succeed and helps out a lot. After every exam you get the chance to redo a few questions for a boost!
He is VERY invested in the success of his students. He provides in-the-moment feedback so no student is left behind and explains concepts very clearly. He is always available for extra help/feedback. If you stay on top of assignments and ask for help, exams wont be a problem. Hes the best math professor Ive had thus far!
Have to complete an in-class assignment almost every lecture, but gives extensions if students are behind. Active learning course; you work in groups with help of LA/TA. The usual annoying online assignments (MyLabsPlus). Very understanding of the course's difficulty. Adjusts difficulty of exams & speed of lectures based on performance of class.
I took his class in summer so it was very fast paced. There were about 6 homeworks and 3 quizzes give or take due every week. Also no extensions or late or missed work. It wasnt my favorite class but if you can do fast paced learning it might be good for you
I had professor Caglar Summer Term of 2020. I personally enjoyed Professor Caglar's class. He is extremely willing to help students out and will do anything to make sure you pass the class. He is extremely caring and respectful. Professor Caglar is always prepared to answer any questions and is extremely knowledgeable on the subject.
Took him over summer A and he teaches a hybrid course. You have to learn a lot of things on your own, so it was very difficult. Wastes a lot of class time in group work, time that he could spend teaching. It was very overwhelming and difficult.
Professor Caglar is a good professor. He honestly cares about how his students do in class. Hes very quick to respond when you message him. The grading policy is very clear but he also gives you tons of option for improving your grade. Definitely do the study guides. I took this course in 6 weeks (summer) and he was the right professor to choose.
Without a doubt the best and most capable math teacher for pre-calculus and calculus I. Class is super easy. The professor is simple, easy and layback. I took calculus in summer A and past it with an A, there really is no way to fail his class unless you try too. Dont trust the mlp hw his test are never as hard as the mlp. Take him wont regret.
I took him for summer A and was scared to take it because it was so short and fast-paced. However, he explains everything well and will go back if you still need help. You have to do MLP, pre-class and in-class assignments. He gives study guides for the test so just focus on those study guides and you for sure will pass. Highly recommend
I loved professor Caglar! I decided to take him for Calculus I during summer A. I'm not going to lie, there was a lot of material for only 6 weeks, but altogether his lectures were great and to the point. My recommendation is to always look at the study guides he sends (some questions repeat on the exams) and get ready to do group work.
Professor Umut Caglar is an amazing professor, excellent teaching skills. He is very fair, and also, everything about syllabus, and grading policy is clear. He teaches in a very understandable way, many complex concepts that he teaches are very digestible for any average student. Excellent professor.
Highly recommend taking professor Caglar if you aren't the best in math. I'm terrible at math and he made it so easy to understand. Took it Summer B and the class was hybrid so the pace was pretty fast but if you pay attention in class, review after and do the assigned work, you'll get an A for sure! if he's available, take him!
Great prof! Took his Calc class fully online during quarantine but he still managed to explain everything well. Normal amount of homework for a fully-online class, and he was really nice with his grading, dropping your lowest grades on homeworks and things like that. Would take again.
This man was the biggest headache for my fall semester. Hes rude, isnt understanding and his way of grading isnt the fairest. He accused the entire class of cheating even though its impossible to cheat. Says he wants his students to learn but you dont learn in this class you memorize to pass. Very bad professor for calculus do not take him. RUN.
I took a hybrid MAC2311 course with professor Caglar, and the class went at an extremely fast rate. He explained the course materials well in lecture despite our time constraints.
Makes PreCalc understandable. Responds quickly to emails. Is fair in grading.
Really excellent professor, and incredibly passionate about math. He assigns a lot of work, but in a class like this, its pretty necessary and should be expected. I actually learned to like math a lot more after taking this class with Caglar. 10/10 would recommend
This class is test heavy with that being 67% of your grade. There's perclass assignments, in class assignments, and heomworks and quizzes that are completed throughout each week. Overall, if you are willing to put in the work you should get a good grade.
harsh grader, rude to students, no extra credit, and has an attitude when asked to explain something the class as a whole did not understand.
Awesome professor! Presents the material in a manner that is easy to follow and understand. I never looked forward to a math course before in my life but I looked forward to Prof. Caglars lectures because he was so good at teaching the material. My only complaint is that I couldn't take him for Calc 2! Sign up for his class, you won't regret it.
Overall, very good Professor. He is knowledgeable, patient, and understanding, but he also gives alot of homework. His class is doable, you just have to put in the work to pass it.
He's a good teacher and his lectures were very easy to follow. He gave us practice exams before the test that DEFINITELY prepared us for what would be on it. The MathLab assignments were time consuming but manageable, I'm pretty sure all the calc teachers assigned the same mathlab modules. CHOOSE HIM!!!
He was the best Prof I have ever taken; this class was literally so easy in compared to other calc classes. He dropped one test grade, one homework, one quiz and 2 online assignments. His lectures are pretty good, and he makes sure you understand the material. If you have to take any math class and he is an option, do so. YOU WONT REGRET IT!!!
Love this man. Seriously, he's the best. He cares about his students and gives extra credit when needed. He is super understanding and always answers emails. He is very thorough when he teaches and he makes his tests as easy as possible even though the subject us hard. I am so glad I took his class and will totally take him again
This teacher is amazing! The content for this class is a lot but he really tries his hardest to ensure that everyone understands it and passes the class no matter what
Truly an amazing professor! He goes into the detail in every lecture to make sure everyone understands the lesson. You can really tell he cares about students and how well they do in his class.
Hes one of the best professors Ive had. He cares about how the class is doing and will help you if he sees you need it.
This professor is one of the sweetest I've encountered. He's just adorable, imho. And truly cares for his students. Seems to genuinely get hurt when students don't do good and gives everyone a chance to improve their score. I can't say this is going to be an easy class, but at least you'll be in good hands with this professor.
Best Professor Ive had! If you go to each of his classes and do the work then you will pass with flying colors. Hes very caring so he will do his best to make sure you pass his class. Show up to class, do the homework, go to LA office hours and youll be fine. Absolutely loved this class!!!
I absolutely loved this professor and wished that he taught calculus 1 in the upcoming fall. Most promising professor and truly a great person. He really loves math and teaches very well. He is very caring and always answers emails and any questions during class as well. If you can take him, please do, you definitely will not regret it.
He is understanding, patient, and willing to work with students. He really builds that strong foundation of math that you need. Goes through all questions and explains in such manner that there is no confusion. 4 exams + cumulative Final - if you study by practicing and learn the formulas then you'll do great! LAs are helpful + do all of MLP
Professor Caglar has been one of my math teachers that made me understand and like math again. I would totally recommend taking him if you are not the nest at math, he gives you the foundation you need to pass other math classes. Attend his lectures and you wont get less than B in his class. The examples he gives in class are what you need to pass.
Tip to anyone thinking about taking this class in summer. This class had the most homework load I had ever received, one day had 3 quizzes, 5 home work assignments and an exam all in one day. The professor is great. Just the summer class is really condensed.
I have to say, taking this class with Prof Caglar was the best choice I could've made. This is a hard subject to learn in such little time but he was so thoughtful & explained everything with such detail that it made easy to grasp. He truly cares about his students understanding & will do anything to help. I definitely recommend choosing him!
He's one of the FEW good math teachers. He explains from the beginning so you understand , he doesn't just assume you know it which I loved so much. Even if I knew it, I was glad he took the time to go over every step. If I could take him as my math teacher all year long I would've. I was even about to take calc with him but couldn't
I hate to leave him a bad review because the professor is very nice, but I don't like this class. He spends half the class teaching and the other half we do assignments in groups but the assignment and tests are much more complicated than the lecture, so I feel like I have to teach myself a lot. If I wanted that, I'd take an online class.
I believe he is a good teacher and good guy but i'll be honest the person under me said it best. The practices he gives are nothing like the real test and it's not even his. I wish it was more clear what would be on the test because you could study something that is not even on it.
Extremely helpful and wants his students to be successful.
This professor is a great guy, but not just for me. His class times were half lecture and half in class assignments (sometimes). He is very fast paced and they only way i could keep a C was to look at youtube videos to really understand the material. I don't recommend if you cant learn in a fast paced environment.
He's a great professor!!! His lectures are very clear and cover everything for a fast-paced class. He also gives study guides before the exam so you're prepared. As he said you must practice/study to fully grasp the material. For the in-class assignments, he extends the deadline until 11:59 pm so you understand everything.
If you get the chance to take Calc 1 with Professor Caglar, you should definitely do it because he is amazing! He is a great professor that really cares about his students and who is always willing to solve any doubts you have, whether you are in class or outside class. It's a subject that requires a LOTTT of studying, but he makes the class fun!
If math isn't your thing you should attend his lectures. Half of it is the lecture and the other half is group work. I did hybrid and only attended class for the tests, there are 4 and a final. The final will replace your lowest test grade. There's a preclass assignment and in-class, and 2 online assignments due every 3 days. Highly recommend!
Not sure why this Professor has such a high rating. He's extremely hard to talk to and has a bad attitude. Even though he claims you can speak to him. He's fast-paced and his teachings are below average, I basically have to learn everything myself. He gives at least 1 quiz, pre-class and in-class assignments everytime, as well as online homework.
Great professor. Explains topics EXTREMELY well, almost like it's a hobby for him. If you're not the best at math, you have to take him. He won't belittle you for not understanding, instead he'll encourage you to learn and keep trying. Definitely recommend.
He's probably the best Math professor I've ever had.
Overall, Professor Caglar is great. He was a lot of patience with his students. I took MAC 1147 with him. This course is kinda easy, as long as you study and keep up with the class you will do good. You do have to take pre-class/in-class homework, in class mini quizzes(easy af) and two online assignments within Canvas (really tedious) weekly.
Honestly the Best professor I have ever had in Mathematics. He cares so much about helping students pass his classes. Very generous with points given on exams. You just have to make sure you do the work and understand what is happening. He does use Pearson online homework which really stinks but be diligent in completing them regularly. Good Luck!!
Our class was a hybrid course, so we only saw professor Umut once a week and he still covered all the material we were tested on. We had a pre-class, in class and worksheet that might seem like a lot but it was nice to formulate questions to ask him. Three test and a final, always gave us extra credit when we did bad. Replaced lowest score w/ final
This professor was great, if you are not strong in math he won't mind to go over the basics from algebra to help student understand. Definitely take this professor.
Honestly one of the best teachers I have ever had. I cannot come up with a single complain about him. He is extremely good at lecturing, at the end of the semester he dropped the lowest grade of each category, and to top it all off you can tell that he just loves teaching which makes his class so much better.
The best math professor ever. Super easy to reach out to as well and usually responds to emails really fast. He will explain everything and will gladly repeat things if a student does not understand a topic. He is very patient, and overall a very great professor.
Amazing professor, you won't find a better one at FIU, he helped me understand math in a way no other professor has previously, I walked away understanding everything I needed to and truly found the course fun! Take this professor, you will not regret it!
don't. just don't. he blames you for doing bad, and this semester the average in his tests was a 50%. no-one passed. your classmates are the saving grace. don't rely on him, he acts like nothings his fault. his grading is ok, but you feel set up for failure with no calcs and misguiding study guides. overall, meh. wouldn't do it again to myself.
One of the nicest professors I have ever had. Overall great guy, gives good lectures, homework, tests, and expectations are all straightforward. He does give a bit of homework, but its Calculus 1, of course you need the practice. As long as you do the homework and pay attention in class, you will pass with flying colors.
BEST PROFESSOR AT FIU. Always tries to help his students understand to the best of his ability. Cares about his students, and how they do in the course.
He is honestly so caring I wish I could take his calc 1 class, I dreaded taking precal but he makes the concepts very easy and shows how to achieve and answer everything, he goes through the whole topic and shows how to do it. he's very good at answering questions. There is a good amount of work, its easy and they count for your grade so do them!
Great professor! He makes a somewhat difficult course easy. That being said you will still have to put a decent amount of time in the course to get a good grade. 3 exams and 1 final. Inclass quizzes are added as bonus points to the exam. Very generous grader that looks to give you as much points as possible on exams.
The BEST professor at FIU !! Dr. Caglar is truly kind and caring. He always tries his best to motivate and help his students. His lectures are clear and never dull. For a subject that is hard he makes it so much simpler, make sure to do your part, practice a lot every week and you'll do great! He definitely changed my view on calculus, so grateful.
Professor Caglar, was the BEST math teacher ever!! He is super caring and understanding. He is not a tough grader at all and does a great job and teaching Pre Calc and Trig even when it's a hard class, he makes it easy to understand and takes his time to ensure you understand every topic. I would take him 1000x times again for math. 100/10 !!!!
Great professor. Teaches math in a simple way which makes it easier to understand. Definitely take him
The course covers lots of topics and needs consistency if you want to pass. However, I can say that this professor is amazing. If you want to learn take him. He does not assume you know the material and shows how to do the work step by step. He is understanding so talk to him. The work only helps your grade and he encourages you to do better.
Amazing professor! His lectures are very easy to grasp and will help you with any confusion. Gives great feedback in his quizzes and exams. Calc is a hard class overall but Caglar makes it a lot easier to understand. He's super caring and very flexible! I recommend taking him especially if math is hard for you.
One of the best professors I've ever taken. Im not good at math but he made it simple and easy. Im taking him again for calc 1. If you can TAKE HIM. I never leave reviews here either, I made sure for him because he genuinely is a phenomenal professor who truly cares for his students and wants them to succeed!
It's a math course, expect to do work. We had a weekly quiz before class, pre-class assignment, in-class assignment, and Mathlab (basically khan academy 2.0). Taught pretty well and went over step by step for all problems. Always went over the question if you had difficulty understanding. Overall would recommend.
Please take him if you can. He is by far the best teacher I've had at FIU. He assumes you have no prior knowledge when teaching you which helps if you have any knowledge gaps and helps you to not fall behind in the course. Depending on the semester you take him, you may need to prepare to teach yourself outside of class time due to time constraints
Best math professor ever. Went from math dropout to A+ thanks to this guy. Daily homework and tons of extra credit opportunities. We had three pencil and paper exams and about 2 in-person quizzes a week. You have pre- in- post- class assignments on top of online homework and quizzes. It was a heavy load of work, but he is accessible outside class
One of the best professors I have had at FIU! However, when it comes to iMath homework problems, some problems can be tricky as he only goes over simpler problems during class. This is how we critically think though!
He's such a sweetheart! His lectures are great and he's always willing to answer your questions and give feedback. There is a lot of work and it can be intimidating but he's a very lenient grader, even gives extra credit and tries giving you as much credit as possible for questions you got wrong on tests. Take him!
This is the best math professor I've had. I took the Hybrid MAC-1147 course with one class time from 3:30-5:10 on Wednesdays. He truly does care about his students and he takes the time to answer everyone's questions thoroughly. For the exams, he would do recorded zoom meetings outside of class time to review and answer questions.
Professor Caglar was the best math teacher I've ever had. He's super understanding, and you can tell he really has a passion for teaching. His assignments and lectures never failed in helping me further my knowledge (allowing me to get great grades on in-class quizzes and exams). Definitely take him!!!
He was a fantastic Calc 1 professor. Calc 1 tests and homework are all standardized, but he was able to guide us so well. I had NO college algebra, pre cal, OR Trig knowledge yet I have had a steady B in the course. This course IS DIFFICULT but he is the best professor possible! :)
Professor Caglar is good at what he does. He makes sure that the material is engrained into your head. Also, he's very accommodating. But make sure you attend lectures because there are in-class quizzes before and sometimes after the lectures that you must complete.
Professor Calgary is extremely fair and understanding and will help you in any way he can. He truly wants to help his students and actually teaches in a way for everyone to understand.
Take this professor !! makes math seem super easy and cares a lot about how well you do in the class. 10/10
I would recommend this professor. Not only is he capable of making math seem easy but he also cares a lot about his students progress in the class. I struggled with math until he was my professor
He's awesome, took him for precalc and calc 1, one of the best professors I've ever had at FIU. He's lectures can be a little slow, but it's so nobody gets left behind. Sometimes, if the class exam averages are low, he'll give out a quiz that counts toward that exam, to bump everyone up.
The best professor I ever had. He has an excellent organization and structure for the course. Learning Calculus had never being easier but you have to go to the lecture, pay attention, take notes and also do you homework because practice makes perfect. He would explained everything clear and even do a quick review of basic algebra if need it.
Professor Caglar is extremely caring, dedicated, and respectful. He gives great in-depth lectures and always makes sure that everyone is following along and understanding the topics. There are quizzes and tests throughout the semester, but all the material on them is covered in class in great detail. You will succeed if you put in the work.
This professor was amazing when it came to teaching MAC 1147. The class was a hybrid class so the biggest issue was the amount of online assignments, but he does this to prepare us properly for once we get into class and lessen the impact the exams can have on our final grade. But he was an amazing teacher to have who cared alot for his students.
Prof Caglar made calc fun and easy. He has a great personality and explains things very clearly. Honestly an amazing teacher!
He graded pretty easily giving points for every step you did right, even if you didn't end up with the right answer. Overall a very good professor!
Professor Caglar is the best Math professor at FIU. He genuinely cares about his students passing and takes action when he sees the class isn't understanding a specific topic. He really sets everyone up to succeed. The class itself is not the easiest, but Professor Caglar guides you through and helps in every way he can. TAKE HIM!
Professor Umut is by far the best professor I have had here at fiu. It is rare to see a professor who you can tell genuinely cares about his students and them doing well and that is exactly who he is. Calculus itself is really hard and requires a lot of time but you could not find a more caring, genuine, and helpful professor. Definitely take him.
Umut is the best math professor you will have at FIU. He is very accessible outside of class and will help you with any question you have. He makes sure everyone understands the lesson before he moves on and will give you lots of extra credit to make sure you do well. Tests aren't worth a lot. Take him.
I waited a year to take this class since I had already taken PreC with him and loved it. He is fantastic and will do everything to help you understand the concepts and do well in the class. If he sees your effort, you will pass. He's not a harsh grader, so if you want to learn and do well, take him. It can be an easy A. Just put in some effort.
Professor Calglar is a great person but not a good teacher. His lectures were hard to follow and he was rude when giving students feedback. He gives a lot of homework and doesn't have extra credit opportunities (unless the whole class fails an exam).
He's a king. Cares so much about his students and will do anything to see you succeed. Never had a math professor like him and would take him again a million times if I could. Do yourself a favor and take him
Great lectures if u take the time to pay attention and take notes. Hybrid course, guided notes & worksheet due at 11:59 the day of class. Guided notes are from playposit vids due the day before class (longest one was maybe 17 mins). 3 Exams each 30% of ur grade. final is 24%. Start each class w a quiz, then lecture, & end w a quiz. 1 group project.
This professor truly wants for you to pass his class so he will give extra credit where as needed. As for class and exams, exam, 2 two exams can be difficult, however, if you study you should be able to go just fine in the class. Take this professor if u want one that teaches and brakes down every single detail.
Amazing professor, covers tough concepts but makes it very easy to understand and follow along. Tests are definitely reasonable so just study the concepts and you'll pass, reviews are always much more difficult than the tests. Homework is also more worth than the tests so just do all the assignments and youll pass. Great class overall !
Great professor. He explains concepts thoroughly and you can tell he cares about his students. Would 100% recommend.
Amazing professor. Taught very well and made the material easy to learn.
Grat teacher- actually cares about students and is very patient. You do need to have a certain extent of back ground knowledge, but he is willing to go into the "you should already know this" topics.
Professor Caglar is an amazing math teacher who truly wants you to succeed. The class is challenging, but he breaks down concepts clearly and offers great resources like unstuck study to help with study prep. Definitely take this course!
Might be the best professor I've ever had, he has made me appreciate and love math. Only reason I changed my major from a non-science/math major to a more math heavy major. Was terrified of math until I entered his course. Make sure to take him if you want to succeed! (P.S) You have to study but he makes sure you succeed with his way of teaching
great teacher but the material is so hard! It better to take this in person with him. We have 3 videos, guided notes, 2 math is ( each 20 questions) and a offline homework due every week.
Great guy, not the best at explaining topics. I am good at math, so this was an easy class for me. If you do not understand Algebra2 you will struggle. ~4 videos with questions, pre-class notes,2 in-class quizzes,in-class assignment, and 2-3 iMathAS assignments (15-30Q's) PER WEEK. 3 exams 1 final.A lot of HW so you cant fail even if you bomb exams
If you need to take a math class, I would definitely recommend Dr. Caglar! His accent is sometimes hard to understand, however the way he teaches makes everything make sense. He tries very hard to make sure everyone understands the material. A fair amount of homework, however, if you do it all then fail all ur exams you will still pass the class.
Prof Caglar is the best professor I have ever had. And it is because he challenges you to learn but gives you ALL the tools you need to succeed. He is caring and understanding, respects his students and truly wants students to learn . He won't make you feel bad if you receive a bad grade, he will really encourage you to do your best.
I don't usually write reviews, but I have to for Professor Umut Caglar. I've always struggled with math, but he made this class easy to understand. The weekly quizzes are simple if you review the PlayPosits, and the in-class worksheets are crucial complete and turn them in! He's a fantastic professor who makes math manageable. Highly recommend!
If you took pre-cal in high school and didn't get it, you'll get it this time for sure. Professor Caglar makes learning math so simple, the class is set up for you to succeed. 10/10 recommend. The exam reviews and homeworks are exactly like the tests. i'm sure you'll have nothing to worry about.
Prof. Caglar is super nice & he takes his time to explain the concepts really well. I had him hybrid so the workload was a lot which i personally dont mind but beware. The test reviews are always harder than the actual test so dont freak out seeing the reviews. Every test is rounded 10 pts up & some low score HW are dropped at the end of the course
Caglar really cares for his students and will help you if you are trying. He helped me tremendously throughout this course. He offers office hours to make up for the class being fast paced. He offers manyyy opportunities for extra credit and really helped me pass this class. Answers emails very fast. Great professor!!!
Amazing professor. Probably the most caring and respectful professor I've had in my entire time as a college student (and I've been taking college classes since summer of 2021). He finds any opportunity to give his students extra credit and will literally bend assignment/test grades so that they benefit you. Very humble guy.
He had a heavy accent but explained things really well. Weekly homework was manageable, and he often gave extra credit on tests and quizzes. Homework was easy. He gave a group project in the beginning of the semester and randomly chooses the groups. He graded fairly, was easy to talk to, funny, and truly engaged with students. Highly recommend!
Great instructor—explains concepts clearly and answers questions well. Offers extra credit: 10 bonus points on exams and a group project. Two easy quizzes per class (10% of total grade). The final is weighted the most, and replaces your lowest exam grade. Reviewing past exams and study guides makes an A very achievable.
Worst Professor I've ever had. Didn't teach using formulas in TRIG, doesn't allow calculators (but we need them for HW?), and the way he teaches is just downright awful. Everyone was failing his class so bad that he dropped OVER 10 assignments/quizzes/playposits. Easy to reach via email & nice guy but very bad teacher. DON'T take Caglar. Avoid him.
Took this class online (Summer C) and it was great. Prof. Caglar is super understanding—helped with ProctorU issues and an emergency. PlayPosit videos and guided notes were very helpful. He gives extra credit. Do your work and it's hard to fail. Best prof I've had. TAKE HIM!
Took his course online for Summer C. Very understanding and responds to emails in a timely manner. Course is very homework heavy; notes, play posits and assignments were due each week. Would not recommend taking him for online courses as you have to pay upwards of $25 to take each exam on Proctor U.
Professor Caglar was such a great professor in every aspect. He made every math concept extremely easy to understand. The study guides he gave for the exams were almost identical to the real exams, which made it very easy to study. He gives a good amount of homework like playposits and worksheets but it is very doable. I highly recommend him!!!
Such a sweet professor ! Very caring , willing to help you out if you need it. The course itself is a hard class but he tries his best and you can tell ! 10/10 recommend. TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN.
