Lots of work.Overall grade is the weighted avg. of bi-weekly quiz, weekly hw, exams, projects, attendance. 91%+ is required for an A. The first exam was based on homework and was very easy, which led you into believing the final would be similar. Turned out the final was very tricky and consisted of topics that she did not cover in detail in class.
Class was graded on weekly quizzes and homework, a project, and final, equally important. You have to pay a lot of attention in class and definitely go to her office hours because some homeworks were harder than what was done in class, so dont leave them for the last day. Final is based on the homeworks mostly, and quizzes so understand those well
The coursework designed by the professor throughout the semester was very useful. It involved a lot of quizzes, hw , exams and a project. This helped to keep a grasp on the subject for the whole semester.
I've taken IDS532 with professor Ozdogru this semester. she covers every single concept of book in the classroom. she teaches with joy and enthusiasm and does her best. I highly recommend taking class with her.
Professor Ozdogru covers every single concept of the book. she teaches with joy and enthusiasm. her classes are very useful.
this course is useful and enjoyable. professor covers all concepts in the book. you should work hard on the project and homeworks.
This course needed lots of work but at the end, I learnt so much new. Supply chain is a much used industrial and business field and this course does well at more than just introduction.
Theres a lot of busy work in this class. Weekly Excel, VBA, and Quizzes. Thats right, 3 assignments weekly. On top of that she does take attendance which is 10%. 25% very tough final exam on vbaexcel and 25% group project. not an easy A. B is possible if you keep up with all assignments
This is a tough class. I never took a programming class before so it was a little hard, however I did learn a lot. Very helpful and enthusiastic professor. Big project at the end of semester, start early don't wait till last minute because there is a lot of work.
You really do learn a lot. My VBA and Excel skills have improved dramatically. Test was tough, but it was fair in terms of expectations. She tells you in advance the type of problems to prepare for. Find the right group or else you will do everything, and it's a lot of work.
Professor Ozdogru is the most dedicated and professional instructor I have worked with. She is approachable, helpful and truly cares about all of her students' progress. She sets high expectations but in the end rewards hard work fairly. I got a really great internship thanks to the Visual Basic and other skills I learned in her class.
IDS 331 with Professor O is very useful for those who want the edge in many higher level courses in Finance and IDS. Hard work pays off and the final incorporates whatever is done in homework assignments. Professor O is very friendly and has many connections to internships, so ask questions about material and internships if needed.
I had a once a week class with her, so she had to FLY through the material. She covered about 2 chapters a week with very well planned course, but she gives optional homework for this class, so you need to use it to study for the exams, otherwise you're screwed!
This professor is very kind and helpful, but not in the classroom. She offers this class to prep for a certification exam which was no help at all. HOWEVER. If you already know SAS programming, this is great to show you how to use it in real world business scenarios! 2 big projects and a final exam. Assignments every week. quizzes every 2 weeks. GO
Attendance is mandatory, and she is very strict about it, even if you are 1 minute late. Lectures are very boring, and she just talks the whole time and is hard to follow. When going through examples, it is difficult to follow her. 2 assignments per week, and a difficult group project and final that makes up about 50% of the grade.
She is rude and condescending. She gives timed quizzes but its not enough time to complete them. She REFUSES to make the quizzes longer. Attendance is mandatory. Super strict. She needs to change her attitude. Not a helpful professor at all. Her English is not good because her assignments which she types are not clear. Worst profess
All work on Excel. Group project and final worth 50% of final grade. Not a nice person. Will give zeroes when quizzes are not turned in within seconds. Not accommodating. She rudely asked me how I did I get in this course as if I needed to get approval. She is the prime example of what a teacher should not be like towards students
She seems to favor people who have taken her perviously for her 331 course. Class was hard. Term project and final worth 50% of final grade. Not a nice person. She wasn't helpful outside of classed. She asked several students how did they get into this course and who approved it. Very rude. Quizzes must be submitted with time limit otherwise a zero
One of the worst professors I've ever had the misfortune of taking. Was originally very excited to study VBA and excel but the professor made this class a nightmare. Was very respectful and patient with her but she insists on being rude. While other professors hope to see their students do well, she purposely makes everything more difficult.
Horrible prof. The entire grade is basically the final project and final exam (which she doesn't give a study guide for)
Tough class but you will learn it a lot about supply chain. Some of the HW was optional and some was required but you can work with a team. Quizzes were both in class and online. Midterm was challenging. Choose a good topic for the final project and put some effort and you will be fine. The final exam was not too difficult. Just study the HW.
I actually enjoy taking classes with her. She does like seeing students she knows but never seen her be ever be rude. Grade is heavily exam/project based but it made me appreciate the subject. Been pushed to A twice due to 100% attendance! Taken her for 331 and 454 and taking her for 420 in the Fall. Can be boring; put in effort and it pays off.
Homeworks every week, she teaches expecting you to know how to code already. Difficult class, and she is not helpful at all in office hours. She heavily plays favorites, so try to get on her good side. Final is worth almost half the entire grade, doesn't give you a way to study or tell you what will be on it. Respectfully would NOT recommend.
Attendance has no weight in grading, but will take points off your assignments and project if you do not show up. There is no midterm, nearly the entire grade is based on the final exam and final project. Don't know why UIC is still allowing her to teach. Pretty common feeling among most students who have taken her class.
IDS 331 is difficult in itself if you don't keep up with the readings or powerpoints. Going to class everyday is essential. The final and group project were hard and I ended up getting a C. However, thanks to taking 331, it helped me stood out and got me an internship.
Although the concepts in this class are interesting, I would give anything to have taken it with a better professor. Because she speeds through important concepts, you will end up having to teach yourself VBA coding in your free-time. Some professors' primary goal is their students learning - this is not the case here.
Professor Ozdogru is seriously a gem and incredibly sweet. She genuinely cares about her students and wants them to learn. She's always asking for feedback and being understanding towards students' needs. VBA is hard, but go to her office hours. TRUST ME. Build a relationship with her and it will work in your favor at the end of the semester. :)
TAKE!She is a great teacher. She may seem like a harsh grader, but you learn a LOT. I landed an internship b/c I used the excel skills I learned in the first 5 weeks of class. It's all real world stuff. Don't be afraid of her; material IS hard, but she doesn't grade hard if you're willing to TRY; & do HW alone and not in groups b/c you learn more.
Took her for IDS 355 in the Fall19 and she ended up being my favorite professor all semester long.
I took Unsal for IDS331, and I was apprehensive to take her for IDS462, but she was the only prof. teaching the course. Unsal is dedicated to helping students learn. She will push students with this course and you will truly learn a lot. If you are a Business Analytics student, I recommend this course, SAS is great programming language to learn.
Terrible communication with students through email Get ready to teach yourself the material You must attend class because of class attendance points TopHat quizzes should never be used for this class ever again
A very weak communicator, and often unorganized. Does not have a clear basis for grading, and more often than not, being present in class is an absolute waste of time. I'm sure she knows this and enforces a strict attendance policy because of it, otherwise no student would waste their time being there. Most material will have to be self-taught.
As someone said, this was during the pandamic and she was not helpful whatsoever. Emails were rude and unaccommodating. She has no clue how to manage her class. Her online class was like a maze... so confusing. I saw an email from a student on what she said and couldn't believe it. So rude.
Do NOT take her class I mean it!!! She is the worst professor I have ever seen in UIC for following reasons: 1 Rude, her composition in email is disorganized as well as her logic in lecture. 2 Weak lecture, you cannot absorb any useful information in her class, except her "-ish" thing eg:"everybody undertand-ish?", which is hilarious and confusing.
Unsal is the kindest and most caring professor at UIC. I took IDS 355 in class & IDS 420 online due to Covid. Under the circumstances, she is doing WAY better at teaching and keeping the class on track than 5 of my other professors. If someone left a bad review about her, its because they weren't paying attention and deserved a crappy grade lol
Material is really tough and her mic was terrible.
Just plain RUDE by the emails she responds to her students and she expects us to give a good feedback for her at the end of the semester. No thanks. I'll rate you how you were performing your duties as a teacher. Lecture's were not even thought out clearly when she lectures. She says, "Do you understand-ish?" Seems like she doesn't care.
Class: $120 for online materials(required). Asynchronous, uploads lectures going over slides but the slides are uploaded too, just view slides. 1Discussion post & report, 1hw and 1quiz due weekly. Labs are short & easy. 2 mid 1 final 20% each. Teacher: WORST COMMUNICATION EVER. Her emailing ability, wording and stubbornness are SERIOUS PROBLEMS
Disrespectful and RUDE. Seems like she needs to be trained in communication etiquette before she is allowed to teach again.
Terrible at explaining things, goes through everything too fast and teaches like students are supposed to already know the material. Makes mistakes when setting up online quizzes so the correct answer is marked as wrong.
I have her now, the work is fine, watch her lectures every week, attend lab with TA, a discussion and report to go along with, and hw/quiz each week. Her class wouldn't be so bad if her lectures weren't long and her accent makes it difficult to understand what she is even saying. Overall she's okay.
IDS 355: 60% of the grade is based on exams. The exams are 50 minutes with 16 qualitative and 17 quantitative. There is no way the average student that is not stats heavy can do well, never mind finish the exams. There is another teacher for 355 that covers 1/2 the material, focuses less on Excel, and just emphasizes the subject matter. Take him!
Prof. UO is really great at teaching. Although she can go fast during material and her accent can trip you up, she is super understanding and wants the best for all her students. Its not an easy A, youll have to pay attention and work hard; however, if you do pay attention and understand the material you can get an A.
Highly recommend, she is very up to date with the real business world and teaches some very important excel skills. She is also very caring, but expects a certain level of participation. I do agree that some times she is a little hard to understand due to her heavy accent but you get used to it after the 2nd 3rd lecture.
She's pretty fair, and takes an effort to get to know her students and their names. her accent isn't too bad.
attendance is 5% of your grade. if you are more than 5 mins late, you can't be counted for attendance. she takes attendance on the dot as well. every week, there is a homework assignment, quiz, lab, and video report due every sunday. there is another ids355 professor and i hear he is so much easier. she is very strict.
Offers many opportunities and extensions for homework assignments, extra credit and labs. Genuinely interested in the success of you as a student. As long as you read and attend lectures easy A.
Prof. O is extremely caring and gives us plenty of opportunities to improve our grades. She gives tons of extra credit opportunities, and we are allowed to have 2 page notes on exams. She is clear with her grading, and the exams are very fair. If you study, you'll do well& to whoever is complaining about homework maybe you shouldn't be in college?
Do not take her, she makes everything more difficult then it has to be. In class she just reads of ppts. She doesn't solve word/number problems to understand her material during lectures. Expects you to learn everything on your own. She is rude, her accent makes it worse to understand class. A lot of math is involved in this class. Steer clear away
Professor was a bit hard but she is very understanding. She gives many opportunities to improve your grade, however make sure you attend her lectures because attendance is required and taken every lecture that takes place!
Great Professor overall! She cares about the success of her students and she is very knowledgeable!
Professor picks favorites, so get on her good side. Attendance is mandatory and good attendance will help u get a round at the end of sem. Make sure case study group members rate u 10/10, or else your grade will suffer. Exams are OK difficulty but fast paced (~2 min per question). First exam is easy, 2nd is hardest, final is in between.
Professor needs to retire. She lectured heavy, would not recommend.
Mean old lady
Very god professor, just do the work don't let the other reviews fool you.
I have no idea why this professor has any good reviews. I am convinced she writes them herself to keep her job. She is the worst professor I have ever had and I am a fourth year student. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF!!!!! You will regret and hate this class every single day. Everyone in my class absolutely despises this professor.
The professor is rude when you ask a question in person or via email. She is very adamant about submitting in-class assignments before class ends when it's rushed. It is hard to understand her because of her strong accent, and she doesn't speak through her microphone. The only good thing about this class was the extra credit opportunities.
she makes it impossible not to do well. WEEKLY general extra credit, at least 10 points of EC on top of that per exam (we were given like 18 points EC for the final), exams heavily curved, easy hw, etc. you just need to attend bc of acadly. some exams r in person but u can make a cheat sheet. take her!
Many will complain about Professor Ozdogru, but she cares about her students. Professor Ozdogru looks at how she can help students improve their grades rather than letting them fail. She allows students to succeed in her class with extra credit and even extends the homework due date. One of the best IDS professors I have had.
I personally loved her. I thought she was extremely smart and actually liked what she taught. The material its self was pretty hard but I that's not really her fault because she tried to make it digestible. I personally sucked at the class but I went in for help a lot (something she really helped with) and did all the extra credit.
Literally all you have to do is SHOW UP and try and she'll help you as much as she can. I can't even fathom how people didn't pass this class.
For once a professor at UIC cares about their students (wow.) she's the best! The class itself is hard but it's required so you just have to tough it out. Glad I toughed it out with Pr. Ozdogru.
Absolutely listen to the 1-star comments. She is rude, she said during an exam, "Students are not allowed to ask clarification questions" and told to "assume" what she means. Very confusing instructions on every assignment. Told a student who asked a question during class"You should have been paying attention" and moved on. She gets annoyed easily.
Shes actually so rude and she didnt teach 331 for 3 years and would always be confused and get mad when you had questions. no exams had reviews and she would just say cumulative. shes actually not nice tho like fr dont take her.
Honestly one of the absolute worst professors/teachers I've ever had in my life. She did not understand half of what she was teaching. Claimed she would get back to your emails within 24 hrs. Never responded to numerous of my/other students emails. Taking her class is like signing yourself up for torture. Extremely rude and downright mean.
BY FAR, the worst professor I ever had. She is very rude, content is hard to begin with and then her way of teaching it is watching her do it once and then getting tested on it. Doesn't record lectures. Continuously uses the fact that the class is "400 level" to excuse her unclear instructions. Steer clear, GPA killer. Disregard any good reviews.
The worst professor I have ever had, even considered dropping the degree just to stop taking her classes. She is unapproachable, barely speaks/understands English, never gets back to emails, and blames you if a group project goes wrong. She rarely explains projects before assigning them, routinely messed up grades on Blackboard, and hates girls.
She doesn't actually know any of the material herself. During the lectures, she would constantly get lost while teaching, and sometimes the students would have to help her. This might also explain why she would get angry at students for asking questions. Also bad at responding to emails. After days of no response, she'd tell me to email the TA.
has 0 teaching capabilities
Horrible professor!!! She only reads off the slides and when asked to explain she gets upset. She has an accent and speaks very fast so you can't understand what she's saying. Not much homework.
She is friendly and seems to care but teaching style is bad. Takes attendance w/ Acadly and if you miss class there is no way to know what was covered. Gives instructions outloud in class &you can't refer back to them so write notes for exams&HW. Exams too long for 50 minutes. If you face technical issues she doesn't care. Doesn't record lectures.
take this class if you want to struggle. her lectures make no sense, total self study. she's very moody and hates giving extensions. I would not take her again
The worst professor I have ever taken here at UIC. She is very mean and unapproachable, any questions asked she makes you feel like you are a bother and is very discouraging. During an exam, she was unwilling to help me log in when I was genuinely confused and told me to figure it out myself and didn't bother to look at my computer to see the issue
While she may have extensive background in education of statistics and mathematics, many of her lectures are very difficult to follow. She is very fast paced and anytime you ask questions, the answers are vague and she will continue on with lectures. Overall, she thinks it's a grad student class and you're better off with another easier professor.
Worst professor/teacher I have ever had at any level of schooling. She's very rude when students ask a question and often says check the bb or figure it out yourself. Her accent doesn't make it any easier to understand her and she over complicates everything. Overall I wouldn't ever recommend someone taking one of her classes.
Yells at students, slams hands on desks, condescending when teaching material of course she's a master of the material but should be working in the field of statistics and not teaching statistics Takes attendance every day and on some days also makes you turn in assignments. Say's she'll curve exam or class grades and the last minute decide not to
Doesn't answer emails, has horrible communication skills and deadlines for assignments, dozens of group assignments that are hard to navigate because WE have to contact the other people in the group, overall the worst professor/teacher I have ever had the displeasure of taking.
Classes are on zoom occasionally throughout the semester. Never wanted to get my laptop mugged more than while her lecture was playing. Please take it, the charger too. Not a difficult subject, she's incredibly knowledgeable but teaches it with no enthusiasm or much effort
This professor literally has zero respect for her students. Bad at responding, rude during class, and a very "know-it-all" arrogant personality. Gotta say UIC has some of the worst choice in professors
I had a very disappointing experience with this professor. The class was poorly organized, with frequent errors each week. Communication was lacking, as she didn't respond to emails. Additionally, sometimes the lecture materials were available on Blackboard on Thursday instead of the expected Monday. Overall, she is not suited for teaching.
The worst class ever. Assignments took me by surprise. The class was scheduled to be completed by July 13; however, the peer evaluation began on July 13 with a mandatory due date of July 15. That's ridiculous. The class had tons of mistakes and errors. Stay away if you can!
Really bad at communication and very arrogant with students. Would never take her class again.
worst ever
She was very nice! Wanted students to succeed. You just need to pay attention and ask for help if needed or else she can get frustrated. Would advise to attend lecture because she doesn't record them. 3 tests are 45% of grade but are very similar to classwork/homework.
The worst professor at UIC and has the worst system for learning in-class. I mean nobody is forcing to teach you. if you don't want to, just don't.
The professor is unbelievably disrespectful and the most unprofessional instructor I've ever had. She snaps at students, says “use common sense,” talks down to everyone, and embarrasses people in class. The class is chaotic and miserable. Avoid this PROFESSOR at all costs.
If you wanna struggle take this class.
She's ok. Attend every lecture and you'll do just fine. Weekly group assignments, online quizzes and group reflections. Exams are in person online, very similar to group work. She's super strict on deadlines and hardly ever allows late assignments. Very slow grader. I didn't have my midterm grade until the week of finals. Beneficial material!
