The more involved you are in class the more you will get out of it! I thought he was great...funny, knowledgeable and very helpful! You have to do your reading and be ready to be called on in class!

You have to do your reading for this class because he calls on you every couple days but his class is very enjoyable and entertaining. Great sense of humor! 4 tests and an easy paper plus extra credit assignments. Take Mr. Cleaves!

This is definitely a course where you EARN a grade instead of having it given to you. I admit my grade is not doing so well, but that's because I haven't really TRIED to do well. Still, I definitely reccomend this instructor

I took Mr. Cleaves for a mini-mester class and he tought me more about our country and how it works than any other class and a little about life. He is a good man that knows how to teach. If you don't like infividual attention, you shouldn't take this class. I liked it, it gave me a chance to talk.

If you are serious about this class, Mr. Cleaves will always help you. Lectures are very interesting, and you can get an "A" if you try. I recomend you to take this class if you are determined peson (you will have a lot of work).

Mr. cleaves is very knowledgeable on in Political Science. You must read ALL assigned chapters and utilize the authors website to get easier definitions to terms. He does require you to participate in class, but if you read the material you won't have a problem.

He expects alot from students. He is nice, but he wants you to learn and know what you are talking about when you come to class. I don't think he is hard. You just need to read and take notes before his lecture, plus take notes about whatever he talks about in class, then you will be fine. Just study, and always be prepared.

Some people complain about Dr. Cleaves because he challenges you and encourages you to think about your government. I find that it is his strongest quality, and I commend him for his encouragement of free-thought and freedom of discussion. He is "hard but he is fair" and if you're not dumb as a rock you'll do wonderfully in this class.

Very hard, very good! Don't take him! Trust me on this I studyed all the damn time to get a D in his class, that is rediculos and kinda makes me feel stupid I just chuck it up to he is a hard ass teacher!

True, he is EXTREMELY DIFFICULT and I WORKED MY BUTT off to only get a B when I am normally an A student. This class is not for the faint of heart, be prepared for a HUGE challenge. He calls on people in call but don't let his attitude scare you. He is really very nice and helpful if you approach him.

Dr. Cleaves is a really nice guy. He puts up a hard front, but if you talk in class and ask questions, you will do great in his class. The tests are tricky, but just make sure you study.

One of best teachers I've had since attending college. He is tough, but you will learn a lot. If you are like some of the people in my class in the beginning who did not know who George Washington was, yeah sure, you will feel stupid and you should. If you are interested in learning then you should definitely take his class.

Everyone is over-exaggerating. Yes he is a hard professor but he teaches knows what he is talking about and a good guy who keeps class interesting. Only class I ever made a C in. could have studied more and got a B. If you're not strong in Amer Gov and looking for an easy A -then don't take him.

Expect to fail the first 2 tests and 4 quizzes, but after that it does get easier. He is pretty funny and is always avaliable to help you. He spends most of the class talking about his stripper friends, but at least you're not working. Just memorize the text if you want to pass.

Ok, yes it's a hard class. But he gives you fair warning....People you must read the book. I don't mean skim it,I mean read it. If you do that, go online and take the parctice tests, and study guides, then print them for extra study materials you'll be fine. Lastly... If he says this isn't in the text write it down, do so, it will be on test.

I think the students who dislike him dropped the class before giving him the chance. While Cleaves's presence can be intimidating he does A LOT for his students. We had 4 tests, 1 in class quiz and 8 TAKE HOME QUIZZES. He also said if you're 2 points shy of the grade you want he'll raise it for you. He's GREAT! The TOPIC is hard.. not the teacher!

You really have to study in this class. Prof is very helpful but you must ask questions and ask for help. the first three exam are really hard but if you study you will get it I got a B in class and I started with a D on the first test. Tests and quizes come straight fromt the book and are somewhat difficult. in this class u really have to read. cleaves is very strict. would reccomend him if you have time to actually read the book.

i took this class a few semesters ago and feel like cleaves gets a rough shake. of all the teachers at perimeter i have learned the most from him. its not just memorization, these are useful pieces of information and you learn it. the class is hard, but it you get your moneys worth.

Mr. cleaves is a kind, funny, knowledgeable man. His classes are fun but he is a very strict grader and you will have to read a lot! he also gives 8 quizzes throughout the semester and a mid-term and final which make up the majority of your grade. if you're not willing to read, and study hard for his class you won't receive a good grade!

I dont think he is as hard as many of the reviews here say. You definitely need to read the chapters because of the quizzes, which as long as you read the book shouldnt be hard. Midterm and final are easy IF YOU READ but dont expect a study guide as he would just say read all the chapters So as long as you are willing to read,you WILL get an A

I liked professor Cleaves but he leans a bit on the lazy side of things when it comes to making his quizzes and tries to throw you off with the wording on the questions. 2 test worth 55% of your grade and 8 quizzes, a group project and participation make up the other 45%. Just be ready to deal with a lot of work on your own

Professor Cleaves is a rare find. He expects you to come to class and his class is super easy. Do the discussions, read the book, take the exams. Simple. I earned a "D" my first time, but that was due to my lack of participation. I took his same course again and I am certain I will pass with an "A" this time, now that I know what NOT to do

I honestly don't understand why there's so many bad reviews. I took him Fall 2021 and this class was an easy A. If you're giving a bad review it's because you didn't do your work. People are complaining that he doesn't accept late work, but he reopened assignments multiple times for my class. Easy class, easy A, amazing professor.

Professor Cleaves has been the most laid-back professor I have taken since I started at GSU. I am taking him for American Government and this class consists of about 6-7 discussions, a civic assignment, and easy quizzes. There have been no proctored exams. This is an EASY A if you do the work on time and actually read the material.

The professor is strict, but engaging. His class requires diligent reading and studying, but the material is interesting. Utilize Unstuck AI and other study aids to succeed.

I LOVEEEEEE Cleaves!!!!! I took his global issues class and I'm currently in his American govt class and of course I'm passing. The work is easy and simple, it's no reason for anyone to miss it.

He was so charismatic and easy to talk to, even with his tone. The quizzes were not that difficult along as you read the chapters assigned, and he gave you two weeks to do it at that. The midterm was not hard. I can not wait to take another class from him.
